So I've been looking at different headshots of operators for the yuri labyrinth and I came across one that looked kind of like Tomimi wearing a wedding dress, so I decided to look at the full skin. And I thought, "what, is she getting ready to marry Gavial or something?"
Anyways, the description for this skin is: "With fashion experts' guidance, Tomimi's trying a new style. We'll have to see–can it get something tickling in Gavial's mind?"
#tomimi#arknights#this gharial is down BAD#YURI#HG is just constantly reaffirming 'yes tomimi IS madly in love with gavial'#and i do know this skin has been out for a while#but still#my poasts

I wonder if Provence and Tomimi ever meet? Tomimi going over this long winded thing about how she's so sorry about Prov's tail and how she's right there with her, maybe even sharing tips on tail shrinkage. Only for Prov to be like "what the fuck are you talking about?"

okay sorry about your comments. how to use tomimi:
Tomimi has a lot of very weird traits for a caster, not just her skills, not just her talent, not even her massive tail! instead i'm going to mention another massive thing:
Her HP stat! at maximum trust, she gets an extra 200 hp and 35 attack, which can easily put her over 2000 hp, more than beeswax and the other phalanx casters. This means that she'll help you use her: put her up close and personal with a healer (she would prefer gavial) and she'll stay alive to pummel your enemies to death.
You might hear that her s2 is her better skill, and in a vacuum, it kind of is? It does something unique* and potentially powerful. It's a strong skill! But don't sleep on her first skill either. My calculations didn't include her module, because it wasn't out yet, but tomimi's first skill is much better at pure DPS. Not only does her good attack + massive attack buff put her attack stat at over 1300, a number that most operators can't hit with a dedicated skill, the ASPD buff means she's pummeling enemies faster than a marksman's sniper's auto attacks. Block something in front of her with <1000 defense, and it will very quickly become less of a problem. Don't think of her as a caster: she's coming for exusiai's throne! Thanks to the high attack speed, she also scales nicely with buffs of any kind.
You've already mentioned her s2, so I presume you already know why it's good. The DPS is lower than her first skill against most targets, but for the 3 effects, her attack speed is still fairly fast. Splash damage coming off her 1300 attack will be unreliable, but stronger than most artilleryman snipers, stun is always useful, and her insane 2.2x critical hit (up to 3000 damage per hit!!!) means that she can deal significant damage to all but the highest defense values. This means that you can use her to substitute for a: - caster - artilleryman - supporter all in one single tile and deployment slot. Beeswax can come close, at the cost of not being able to attack without a skill. Using Tomimi as a replacement for those functions is risky, but potentially very rewarding, as you can use those deployment slots elsewhere.
Altogether, while tomimi is an unconventional solution to common problems, she can be a very, very interesting one. Use her s1 to bosskill, and against low-defense hordes, and her s2 as role compression and a powerful tech option. Good luck!
Looking into Arknights operators that have weird kits or ones I don't know very well because just dropping stat sticks and winning is getting a little boring. I'm looking at Tomimi because her kit as a caster is weird, and considering levelling her.
I know I have to go all in on her to get around her weird restrictions. But does anyone have tips on how to use her once I've gotten her s2 and module to max?
Edit: apparently the people who want to respond to this really want to just shit on her and not answer my question. I'm not asking if she's good. I'm not asking if I should level her. I'm asking since I want to work with weird, non-meta ops, what are tips on getting the most out of her kit.
#arknights#tomimi#she's very good#anyone attempting to dissuade you from this path deserves a rack of coals#after seeing u0bikiemuk0t deliver insanely clean clears using only unconventional operators#i'm not sure there's a better way to play the game aha#also i love yanderes who probably need a hug more than the person they're stalking#what a blorbo rolled into one fat tail

There are times I think about playing Arknights just to see if it's as gay as your posting makes it seem.
Actually it's probably better just to ask it here. How gay is Arknights?
Well. The answer depends on how willing you are to read into subtext. If you’re the type who only cares about extremely explicit gayness to the degree of them literally saying it out loud or to have their relationship with another woman described in text as a relationship, then I guess the answer would be not that gay. There’s Tomimi who professes her love to Gavial in The Great Chief Returns event, and there’s Scavenger whose operator file describes how she was in love with a woman but they got separated, and by the time she was able to return to her her partner was dead. I think that might actually be it from the “turn to the camera and say ‘I’m gay’” level of gayness.
The reality of Arknights is that, despite all the things it does well (and there are seriously a lot of those, that’s why I’ve become kind of obsessed with it for better or worse), it is still a gacha game. And when the profitability of a game is tied directly to how much you can convince your audience to spend money to get the characters they want, it unfortunately makes them make so frustrating decisions to avoid any potential loss of profits. Specifically I’m referring to how characters are not allowed to be in relationships in text, as self-shippers are a potential revenue source (despite the fact that a character having a girlfriend vs a character being single is a much smaller roadblock to dating then the fact that they’re not real). Also it suffers from the very common problem of lack of body diversity and skin colors, fanart that you see that seems otherwise is likely fanon.
But if you like queer subtext, there’s quite a lot to work with. Especially since so many characters and their relationships with each other lend really well to lesbian readings with fascinating dynamics. Women will straight up flirt with each other in text somewhat frequently depending on the characters. Some women have relationships that are really really hard to read as anything other than lesbian (but people will always find a way, usually by not reading in the first place). It very often turns into a “there is no heterosexual explanation for this” situation. And the important thing to know is that ~80% of the characters are women, a lot of whom are very real characters with stories and everything that is well written and respecting of them (with a few exceptions). The majority of their interactions are with other female characters. If you’re picky about it any only want heavy subtext with minimal reading into it, you’ll have a number of good options of characters and relationships to enjoy, like Margaret Nearl and her two very obviously girlfriends/wives (depending on your interpretation), or Skadi and Specter, or Franka and Liskarm who got an official manhua dedicated to their relationship as mercenary partners that was so gay that the scanlators who put it on mangadex tagged it “Girls’ Love” only for the official translation to make it gayer.
It really is a your mileage may vary situation. If you’re like me and can read into the potential yuri in even the slightest interaction, it’s an unending feast. But if you’re only in it for the explicit canon then you might want to look for something else. Regardless, it is a gacha game but also it is a game with a majority female cast of usually well written characters in stories where they are the focus. Seriously, the first like 6 chapters of the main story only have a few men, most of whom are nameless npcs or antagonists, and even the main antagonists get to be fascinating women a large portion of the time. I know it might sound like I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here but misogyny is an extremely present force in storytelling and the bar is really low. I can elaborate more if you want me to, but as you can probably tell I’m not good at being succinct, and any further elaboration would be as long and rambly as this

I love how you threaten Tomimi with NTR just to raise her bloodlust. You're like some shounen villain with a twisted sense of honor who never lets morals stand in the way of motivating a worthy opponent.
I’m the antihero version of a wingman. I WILL get you the girl, even if I must threaten to steal her to spur you into action. The end justifies the NTR panic. I offer my help as a threat.

Indra: Damn, you look bollocksed, mate. Rough day?
Me: I just got out of a 4-hour HR meeting.
Indra: Blimey. Wot kinda HR meeting lasts four bloody hours? And wot the hell'd you do to get stuck in one, anyway?
Me: According to Kal'tsit, listing Gavial's bedroom as my location on company social media is considered "unprofessional".
Indra: You're not pullin' my leg, are you, mate? You were there for real?
Me: Yep.
Indra (winking and elbowing me in the side): You lucky dog! How was it?
Me: Indra, it's not what you're thinking. All we did was play video games, as demonstrated by the fact that I am currently walking under my own power and not confined to the medical wing.
Indra: Aw, come off it, mate! We both know Gavial's got a bit of a soft spot for you. Don't you remember how gentle she was when she took you back to see her hometown? That bird treats you like you're made of glass!
Me: When she's not bouncing me around like a pinball. Besides, it's not Gavial I'm worried about.
Indra: Oh yeah? I know she's got some crazy fans, but... Well, in any case, that lot gives you trouble, give me a call. I'll come sort them out.
Me: It's one fan in particular, actually. Do you know why my meeting went on so long?
Indra: Do tell, mate. I'm just dying to hear it.
Me: It was originally scheduled for three hours. It went on for four because Tomimi broke in and tried to gun me down with one of those field artillery pieces we stole from Londinium's defenses and Dagda bodychecked her through the wall.
Indra: What was Dagda doing there? Last I heard, she hadn't gotten in trouble for weeks.
Me: Morgan drew penises on Kal'tsit's paperwork and framed Dagda for it. She'd just managed to clear her name when Tomimi broke down the door and Dagda had to put her in a sleeper hold. I only survived because Blaze knocked me out of the way of the artillery shell. Also, we need a new HR office now.
Indra: Why was Blaze in the meeting with you? Not that I'm doubting she did something to deserve it, I just want to know what the bird did to get herself in trouble this time.
Me: She got drunk last night and sexted me (on purpose) and Kal'tsit (by accident). Kal'tsit banned her from the landship bar for the next three weeks and told her she had to attend the meeting to discuss appropriate workplace relationships.
Indra: Damn, Doctor, a girl puts herself out there like that for you and you're here talking to me instead of giving her a right shag? That's cold.
Me: Indra, do you have any idea how often my operators send me pictures of their genitals? At this point, seeing Blaze in a g-string at 2:00 AM is just a normal Tuesday night. If I tried to close the deal every time someone sent me a booty pic, I'd be dead by now and the landship would exist in a perpetual state of civil war. Besides, I'm too tired to be horny at the moment. Kal'tsit just talked at me for four straight hours.
Indra: Well, ain't that a tragedy, mate? Come on, then, let me get you off to bed. And I mean bed bed, like for sleeping and such, not fun bed.
Me: Oh, thank God. I love you, Indra.
Indra: Yeah, you and everyone else. Come on, off you go.

Not-So-Quick Thoughts on Ideal City
Okay, finished up Ideal City a lot faster than I thought I would, at least this first batch of stages. Got a few more days until the EX-stages starts happening and while I’m riding this momentum I might as well cover my general thoughts and first impressions on the story and event as a whole. Overall I think this is was quaint and entertaining story. I’m very thankful it’s not as long as some of the bigger events like Stultifera Navis or Near Light, but an event focusing on Gavial probably wouldn’t be that long anyway considering how straightforward she is as a character, and I find this a very nice sequel to The Great Chief Returns. Gameplay-wise things were... fine. I was gritting my teeth a little at IC-9, but it was manageable when remembered Decel Binders exist and I have an E2 Angelina.
But before I get ahead of myself, the synopsis:
Some time after the events of The Great Chief Returns Gavial gets an emergency letter from Tomimi explaining that Acahualla was under threat of a coming calamity and needed to get back to her homeland ASAP in order to save it from destruction. Taking the letter at face value she immediately grabs Eunectes and makes her design combat gear for the trip, because given the urgency Acahualla doesn’t need a healer, it needs a warrior to save it from a coming doom...
Only for the letter to be exaggerate, the calamity being practically a middle worry involving the Durin city under Acahualla, and Gavial being extremely pissed that was bamboozled... at least... until the calamity is actually revealed soon after arriving to the apparent Ideal City of Zeruertza.
Story
Overall I loved the story and find it a good continuation of the themes in The Great Chief Returns. Where that event asked the question of modernization and moving a society forward at the cost of its culture and tradition, Ideal City asks -through Pozemka & Gavial- if it’s right to cling to a preferred culture even at the risk of its destruction and seems to answer that it isn’t. At least that’s my take on the story. This was actually something I’ve been wanting to see discuss in Arknights for awhile now, to see a general clash of cultures and beliefs between two different groups outside of just playing it off for comedy or making it a one-off moment, and I really like the discussions had within the story.
I think the biggest surprise was just how nuanced of an answer I got during the story, coming from High Priest of all things. To summarize his point, no one culture of belief system is superior to another, while people will have their preferences and can make some objective claims about the pros of their culture it’s impossible and outright arrogant to think one’s way of life is objectively better than the other. In context to the story, while Durin society may be easygoing, relaxed, and even innocent to an extent, it doesn’t mean that way of life is inherently superior to the wilder, more violent, might-makes-right society of Acahualla. Eunectes herself explains that Durin society, while more peaceful and calmer, would be completely incompatible with most of Acahualla society. It really feels like everyone in the event showed a more thoughtful side to themselves...
Well, sans Elysium, but he had plenty of nuance in Stultifera Navis, so I’ll give him a pass.
Oddly enough, I have no real thoughts on Minimalist/Stitch. I can appreciate his story of being an introvert in an extroverted society struggling to get out of his shell. As an introvert myself I honestly feel for the guy, especially with all the pressure he puts on himself and freaking out when approached by so much kindness and understanding, fearful of wanting to actually reach out and accept the hands held out to him. It’s a feeling I’ve struggled with a few times myself.
But... he’s... also kind of a little shit and so opinionated and dismissive of everyone else that I wanted Gavial to sock him four times over.
I think he’s written well, but the thing about reading someone being self-destructive and wrapped up in themselves, as realistic as it may be, is that it’s also annoying watching them whine, complain, and whinge about shit no one else cares about save for them, and for very stupid reasons at that. Again, good character and the fact that I feel this way about him is more a good thing than anything.
Gameplay
I have some real mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, it’s not the absolute hell that was Stultifera Navis with it’s dodging enemies that required Lappland and Jaye, bullshit nethersea brand buffs, and The Amalgam. The maps were pretty easy to clear and the self-driving car mechanic honestly felt optional at times, and save for IC-9 I ran into no trouble whatever. The enemies with high dodge only have it temporarily and can be silenced by Lappland besides, the handful of machine enemies could be melted by arts, and smart cars were... there. A nice addition and fun to mess with, but overall unneeded until IC-9.
On the other hand, IC-9 was a bitch to figure out.
Again, not on the level of The Amalgam, but I swear they just make goddamn essays worth of skills and abilities for that damned cube. That cube ain’t even a thing that’s discussed in the story outside of the livestream event, if you even count that.
Something I feel like I should explain is that I stopped bothering to look at guides these past few months when doing maps now. Not out of pride or some belief that I know better (Lord knows I’m a small-brain dumbass at times in these maps), but because 90% of the guides all now require either Thorns, Ch’en Alter, or Silverash, and I only have one of those three raised and even then I don’t raise meta operators unless I’m really struggling or they get a really hot skin.
That said, I figured out the trick after a few failed attempts.
I used Angelina’s S2 to essentially freeze the cube in place, had Lappland on her S1 since the cube had a high physical resistance, and had Saria holding the blue box with another defender and Blaze while on her S2 while spamming the hell out of the smart car and it’s healing/ASP buff over my units. It did the trick.I had to go meta, but my meta.
Conclusion
Overall I’m liking the event. I hope we get more like it, shorter, simpler stories with decent arcs and themes that don’t take 6+ hours to finish. I’m looking forward to the next summer event, here’s hoping it’s something just as fun... and that coming Texas event will be worth all the hype as I save up pulls.
Anyway, be seeing you folks later.
