i finally got to read william forward's interview

could you give us some spoilers for who armand is? i've seen him talked about a lot by people who have read the books and he seems important

Yeah, sure! Under the cut for spoilers! And an obvious disclaimer that he'll probably be at least somewhat different when he appears in the show, this is just the book version of him.

I really love this art for anyone who wants a visual!

So, quick and dirty backstory: Armand is a Ukrainian-born vampire from early 15th century Kievan Rus'. He was turned at 17 by the ancient vampire Marius and is described as being cherubic somewhat short with amber eyes and wavy, auburn hair to his shoulders.

He was kidnapped from his homeland at 12, but "rescued" by Marius and brought to Venice where he was raised (and abused) in something of a boy's school before being kidnapped by a Satanic vampire cult and brought to Paris. He's Armand, so he eventually becomes their leader.

He's crudely "cult deprogrammed" by Lestat in the late 18th century and ends up the leader of a coven of vampires who run a theater in Paris. When Louis and Claudia travel to France, they meet him and he becomes obsessed with Louis, eventually having Claudia killed to get to him. He and Louis travel together for several decades before parting ways.

In the 80s, Armand tracks down Daniel, the interviewer from IWTV and stalks him until they end up in a fucked up romance as Daniel guides him through the modern world. More things happen to him past this (I only covered up to Queen of the Damned on the VC timeline), but that's the core of his story/what generally defines him as a character, as well as his affection for Louis, fraught paternal relationship/romance with Marius, and frenemy antagonism with Lestat.

Personality-wise, he's extremely volatile and manipulative, violent and Machiavellian but also very traumatized (a nice combo of CSA, gaslighting, physical abuse, and religious/cult abuse). The "victim becomes the monster to protect themselves" trope x10, basically. He has all the mood swings and anger of a mentally ill teen with the impulses and abilities of a centuries-old vampire.

He's educated, refined, and plays his cards close to the chest, but also very curious, naive, and childlike because of how isolated he's been. Equal parts philosophical mastermind, serial killer, and kid desperate for love.

He's a really interesting character and I can't wait for y'all to meet him! It sounds like that'll be in season 2.

Hot take that all of the bats are theatre kids but on varying ends of the spectrum. Like Dick? 110% the legitimate performer. Jason? Just here cause he's weirdly obsessed with Shakespeare. Tim is the kid manning the stage effects. I haven't broken down the rest of them yet but I know in my bones that it works. Stephanie's probably a diva or always plays the fool

Yessssssss. Theater is absolutely the one thing that could unite them. Chaotically. Also potentially disastrously. Eh, semantics.

But Dick is of course a ham and I do believe he genuinely enjoys ‘taking a break from himself’ to immerse himself behind a cover identity.....but more than that, I honestly believe he’d love directing and putting his skills with coaxing potential out of people individually or in groups to use for something purely hobby-ish. 

Jason I also see as someone who potentially could love acting for a similar reason I see as behind his love of reading....its the vacation from the self or his own life, the trip in someone else’s shoes or story. Through books, and also acting, the ‘you can be anything you set your mind to’ thing has actual practicality. 

Tim I could see enjoying being the tech guy, but also I could see him liking the directing side of things too, or actually lots of different parts of the process, from script to stage.....like, I dislike when fandom focuses overly much on Tim as the tech guy because it tends to go hand in hand with acting like everyone else but Babs is clueless at such stuff, and also death to the instinctive correlation between smarts and tech like that’s the only possible place to showcase genius or the obvious go-to for how to show a smart person is smart, death to that I say, death and murder and also annihilation. But more than that its that IMO its not tech that Tim likes/focuses on in particular, its workshopping stuff. Taking something from idea to fruition, and being responsible for shepherding its progress every step of the way. 

Cass of course loves dancing and everything to do with it, but another headcanon I’ve always had is that Cass potentially could love choreographing dance. If dance appeals to Cass because its spoken in her first language, that of movement and the body, think about the potential that lies in not just the fact that dance innately is meant to put everyone else for once on the same page as her, watching the dancer for the story they’re telling with their movements.....but through choreographing others, Cass has the opportunity to tell stories of her own for other people to ‘hear’....again, in that same language so to speak. To communicate through others’ movements the way others’ movements normally just speak to her.

Damian I could see a case being made for him gravitating to literally any aspect of theater first out of his innate competitiveness....if his siblings have a skill, he wants to prove its perfectly within his own capabilities as well....but then discovering that oh no, he actually likes a lot of this, what trickery is this, he has been bamboozled, clearly Grayson is behind this, this....insidious attempt to....make him do things just because he “enjoys” them. What utter rot. And other such thoughts and inner rantings that all just further provide proof that this boy was BORN to monologue, and oh look, a stage for such monologues. Also, stage combat? Okay, having to pull his actual punches irks, but the applause for knocking a class rival to the ground instead of censure because he was directed to, look its literally in the script......that’s a plus. Because Damian’s unique form of middle-school Machiavellianism is such that he absolutely would audition for a role for no other reason than the role calls for doing something terrible to the character of someone he immensely dislikes (or just finds tedious, hey its a spectrum), and getting to spend a couple hours every week doing so is catharctic in a way the family isn’t entirely sure they want to encourage but hey, can’t argue with results.

Duke I also could see taking a lot of different routes, but I think he’s another one who would do really well in the director’s chair, coaxing potential classmates didn’t even know they had out of a performance. In the sense that yeah, I think he’s one of the closest to Dick personality wise so a lot of the reasons I see that being ideal for Dick are why I see it working for him as well, but also just like....the way it naturally calls back to the fact that part of his meta powers is he literally boosts the powers of other metas. He has a knack for bringing stuff out of people.

Stephanie is the understudy that’s just there to goof off and have fun, its a nice, relaxing A and that’s the only reason she’s in theater class or using drama club as an extracurricular that can afford her skipping a rehearsal or two or three.....but for all her big talk of “Pffft, nerds, I just came for the stage combat class and stayed because I forgot what else I was going to do’.....she just happens to know all the lines and mouths them along with the actors on stage and gets personally offended when they mess up because they’re doing it BADLY and ugh are they trying to suck this hard or are they just naturally gifted at that part, here, lemme show you how its done, and that’s how she accidentally rom-com scenarios her way into being the star of the show two hours before curtain call or else the plucky impromptu interim director when the real one quits in a fit of high school theater histrionics, or y’know, is made to quit when Stephanie incites a mutiny among the cast because that’s kinda plausible to tbh. Look, there are options here is all I’m saying.

And then Babs as well I see as being not so much in a particular single role at the exception of all others, but whatever puts her most in the driver’s seat of taking something from idea to opening night, like starting with a script maybe, hell even just the line producer or script supervisor, and then accidentallying her way into more and more creative responsibilities and control because the parts just start to come together more easily/readily when she’s rearranging the pieces into orders and in ways that make more sense to others and they find themselves gravitating to, because maybe this was just a local community thing people were doing for fun or to blow off steam but without even noticing a change it starts to take more and more shape as an actual thing as she finds her groove and sees how to improve on this scene here or tighten up things here or what happens when these two actors swap roles and then almost belatedly people are like oh wait, this doesn’t just HAVE to be fun hobby shenanigans this could also be something actually good too, weird thought, hey did anyone else know things could be both fun AND good? Is this a thing or are we in uncharted waters here.

second son of hall of fame ex falcons qb , miles pierce , and entrepreneur and daughter of a famed manhattan - based art collector , amélie pierce – rome’s future was pretty non - negotiable since day one . as soon as they could stumble around enough to pass for walking , miles had his sons enrolled in as many football programs as he legally could .

when rome was young , he loved it . the attention , the praise he received for his quickness despite being one of the smallest kids on the field . plus , going to his father’s games and being recognized as miles pierce’s kids was also fun . soon came time for the inevitable retirement on the heel of a downward - trending career , and after that things … changed .

suddenly , it was less praise and more demands . earlier practices , with his father making rome and his brother run drills until they were sick . suddenly , things that were previously good weren’t good enough , despite how much better his sons continued to be .

as anyone with half a brain could guess , these pressures eventually began to take their toll . with interests in anything else repressed by his father’s insistence that football is and always will be the most important thing in life , rome began to emulate his father’s aggressive attitude , first bringing it to the field and then , more notably , to his personal life . failed relationships , fights at school , sneaking home late absolutely blitzed out of his mind – none of the behaviors were healthy , but they were enough to take the weight of his father’s hands off of his shoulders , if only for a moment . until papa helicopter parent found out , that is .

tw abuse : despite his sons catering to his every will , miles’ incessant anger began to worsen , and soon a lot of the verbal abuse had started to become physical , too . sure , rome knew that it was wrong , but he also thought that maybe if he’d been better in the game last night , or worked harder at practice , maybe he’d stop .

he made varsity his freshman year of high school and took his team to the state championships , expecting his dad to finally approve of something he’d done . instead , he came home to the news that his mother was leaving – that his parents were splitting up and that this had been a long time combing . safe to say this mama’s boy ass bitch was devastated.

tw death : his dad only sunk deeper into his madness , but all that anyone else could see is that rome was throwing further , moving faster , and making better plays . a non - football related injury left him with a broken arm , and it was on the way home from the hospital that his father received the call that his ex - wife had taken her own life . devastated part ii , coming soon to a theater near you !

tw drugs , alcohol , general debauchery : the partying worsened . rome had entered a phase in his life where he was looking for something – anything to completely wipe his mind of any and all thoughts . the drugs , the alcohol , it was all a coping mechanism , but it definitely wasn’t a healthy one . soon , his brother left for college thousands of miles away , and rome found out that that fifth of rum goes down a lot easier after doing a few lines beforehand .

he chose to go to college in cali not because he wanted to , but because his dad knew that hollingsworth was a great school for scouting attention . in his midst of an extended bender compounded by having training now twice a day everyday on top of college courses , he decided to join pike – and he absolutely loves it .

he chose to major in psych because he wants to understand why his dad hates him so much skjfjks dumb b*tch .

also last summer he may or may not have allegedly accidentally wrapped his masterati around a telephone pole and gotten a dui . in reality , it was his brother’s accidental doing after a rather... heated argument between the two , but roman told him to gtfo and he’d take the fall because his bro finally managed to escape his dad and rome didn’t want him to suffer the same fate . it made headlines , but his dad pulled approximately 6 billion strings to get him conditionally reinstated to the team .

spent the summer before his junior year chillin in rehab , but he relapsed shortly after . consistency is key here , kids.

still bender - adjacent , but he’s kept it more lowkey because the nfl draft is coming in hot .

i know yall get it , he vapes , but he’s definitely the kind of guy to try to keep the party running til 5 am and get pissed when people tell him that maybe he should stop .

he will provoke anyone and anything ( even inanimate objects ) if found in a self - destructive enough mood .

has a notoriously short temper , but what kind of gym rat doesn’t .

manages to still attain a 4.0 ( and in his words , psych is easy ) , so that’s another thing that makes it difficult for him to understand that his lifestyle is … per se … problematique .

Donald Liebenson at Vanity Fair: 

Even on his reported deathbed, Joseph Jackson was at the center of controversy. The patriarch of the musical family that included sons Michael, Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, and Marlon—known in their heyday as the Jackson 5—as well as daughter Janet, was reportedly in the final stages of pancreatic cancer on June 22, 2018. In response, Jermaine issued a statement confirming reports that family members had been barred from seeing him. “We shouldn’t have to beg, plead, and argue to see our own father, especially at a time like this.” (Family members, including wife Katherine, were eventually allowed to see him, according to reports).

Joe Jackson died on June 27, at the age of 89.

Joe, who was inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame along with Michael, posthumously, in 2014, began managing his family’s musical career in the 1960s and is credited for making the Jackson 5, then Michael and Janet as solo artists, among the world’s most popular and iconic entertainers. But he drove them relentlessly and his strict discipline and corporal punishment estranged him from his children.

To the end, Joe was fiercely protective of Michael’s legacy, which was tarnished by accusations of child molestation, his perceived bizarre lifestyle, and his death in 2009 by accidental drug overdose. In February 2018, he responded to an interview producer Quincy Jones gave to Vulture in which he alleged that Michael “stole a lot of songs” and was “as Machiavellian as they come.” Joe told Page Six that Jones was “quite jealous” of Michael “because he’s never worked with someone with all of that talent.”

He was also unrepentant for the verbal and physical abuse he inflicted on his children when they were growing up in Gary, Indiana. In 2013, he expressed no regrets to Piers Morgan, about his use of corporal punishment and strict discipline on his children. “I’m glad I was tough,” he told Morgan, “because look what I came out with.”

Janet told Morgan in 2011 that she was only allowed to call her father “Joseph,” and that he once beat her when she was younger than eight. “I think he means well . . . and wants nothing but the best for his kids,” she said. “I just think that the way he went about certain things wasn’t the best way, but it got the job done.” (When interviewed by Morgan in 2013, Joe was not shown the 2011 clip of Janet, in which she claimed that he had beaten her. When pressed by Morgan about his disciplinarian ways, Joe offered the following: “There’s no such thing as beating a kid. You whip them and punish them over something they did, and they will remember that—they will remember it in such a way, they wouldn’t do it again. That’s the way I was.”)

When Michael died, it was revealed that Joe had been left out of his will. Michael’s biographer, J. Randy Taraborrelli, speculated that Michael’s plastic surgery was a deliberate attempt to not look like his father. (Michael’s mother, Katherine, told Oprah Winfrey that he had initially turned to plastic surgery because, according to him, “he didn’t want to start ‘looking like a spotted cow,’” due to his skin condition.)

Joe Jackson was born on July 26, 1928, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas. After his parents separated when he was 12, he moved with his father to Oakland, California. When he was 18, he moved to East Chicago, Indiana, to be near his mother. There, he met Katherine Scruse, whom he married in 1949 after annulling his brief first marriage.

Joe found some success as a boxer, but gave it up when he started a family. He worked for a steel company as a crane operator. He dabbled in music himself, but a band he started with his brother, the Falcons, remained unsigned.

The family settled in economically depressed Gary, Indiana, and would move to Encino, California, after the Jackson 5 hit it big. He and Katherine had 10 children. Brandon, Marlon’s twin, died at birth. In 1974, an affair with Cheryle Terrell allegedly produced a daughter, Joh’Vonnie Jackson.

*The Jackson family musical dynasty began in the early 1960s, after Joe discerned talent in his adolescent sons Tito, Jackie, and Jermaine. They performed locally as the Jackson Brothers. They became the Jackson 5 when Marlon and Michael joined the ensemble. After early successes winning talent contests and playing Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater, the group signed with Motown in 1969. With 11-year-old Michael as their lead singer, the Jackson 5’s first four singles hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

In his 2012 memoir, You Are Not Alone, Michael: Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine wrote that Joe whipped and beat the children, and forced them to carry cinder blocks from one side of the garden to the other. The brothers rehearsed for up to five hours after school. According to Jermaine, if one of them got a dance step wrong, they were forced to break off a branch from a tree for Joe to hit him with it.

In the aforementioned 2013 interview with Morgan, Jackson further explained his reasoning for physically disciplining his children, “I had to be that way because during those times, it was hard, and you have a lot of gangs there, you know, in the area where we were living. This was Gary, Indiana, and I had to make sure that they didn't get in any type of trouble, and things of that sort.” (He was not responding directly to the allegations presented in Jermaine’s book.)

But in 1979, Michael fired him as his manager. His greatest successes, including Off the Wall and Thriller, followed. His brothers also distanced themselves from their father several years later.

Joe’s reputation suffered as Michael and his siblings began to talk publicly about Joe’s alleged abuse. In a 1993 live interview with Oprah, Michael spoke wistfully about missing out on a normal childhood. “It was always work, work, work,” he said. He revealed that his father’s abuse ranged from beatings to calling him ugly. “I love my father, but I don’t know him,” he said. “He was very hard. Just a look would scare you. There’s been times when he’d come to see me, and I would get sick. I’d start to regurgitate."

Jackson was also criticized for using a press conference following Michael’s death to talk about his upcoming business ventures. “We know Joe Jackson,” Taraborrelli explained to CBS in a 2009 interview. “We know he has a good heart, we know he loved his son, we know he loves his family. We also know he can’t resist a good camera when it’s in front of him. And that he’s going to seize the moment. And we also know he’s going to outrage people when he does that.”

Jackson lived in Las Vegas at the time of his death. His health had been in decline in recent years. He reportedly suffered a heart attack while celebrating his 87th birthday in Brazil, which temporarily affected his vision. Variety reported that he had suffered strokes and had dementia. Last year, he was injured in a car accident. One of his last, most high-profile public appearances was in 2015, when he accompanied Janet at the BET Awards, where she was honored with the Ultimate Icon award. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her “beautiful mother and my beautiful father.” To her entire family, she said, ”Your love is unbreakable.”

Shingeki no Kyojin S2 - “Nope. I told you I’m not watching this even if making gifs for the most over-hyped Anime of all time can give me a 1000+ notes.”

Boruto - Naruto Next Generations - “You expect me to watch a show about Naruto’s son, Burrito, when I never even finished watching his series?”

Anime Watch List Spring 2017

Here’s what I think about...

Attack on Titan 2: Them titans are back and spoopier than ever. I’m watching this because even if its intro anime, it's still good and season one was bomb

My Hero Academia 2: These kids are babies and I need to see what happens. I love this show, it’s action in a great form and I am always on the edge of my seat to see how they will get out of their next sticky situation

Eromanga-sensei: Welp, here we go again. Oreimo is back with a fresh coat of paint slapped on (jk) anyway, this first episode was really endearing and I can see this hopefully not becoming incest but since they aren’t even siblings this time...I don’t think that will last long. Anyway I’ll watch it, I’m trash

Bastard of the magic academy: I wanted to hate this show because the girl’s uniforms are so unbelievably stupid, but I found myself laughing at the stupidity of our leading man. It’s gonna be cliche, but it’s gonna be fun with it

Re:Creators: What a unique concept TBH. The first episode had me immediately interested and I like the realistic approach. Can’t wait for more into this mystery

Clockwork Planet: HOLY FUCK this show. I think that 20 second finger-licking scene will be burned into my memory forever. This show makes no sense and the only thing I liked was the blond girl’s character design, goodbye you stupid fanservice mess

Sakura Quest: PA Works is back baby! Shirobako was an amazing show so I have high hopes for this one. From first glance, it just seems like they took Shirobako but instead of anime, it’s about Tourism this time. Anyway we can all count on this show being a solid keeper

Seikaisuru Kado: Mind Games AND CGI?!?! Lol this show is a trip to be sure. The first episode dragged a lot and I wish that weird professor girl wasn’t so juvenile, but this show has an interesting concept with making deals at the center. I can see this show having some interesting plots

SukuSuku: What a cinematic experience! The opening scenes really give you a sense of this fantasy world we are in without bogging us down with long exposition scenes. I am not sure how this will work out plot wise with the girls as weapons thing but I am intrigued. A must watch for fantasy fans, I'm excited.

Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine: All the boys in this show are such cuties. Each one has a really interesting personality and while I am sure this will have some predictable plots, I am curious about Heine’s past and what antics are going to happen. Also, points for the brothers to all look like they could be related and not getting crazy with each prince’s character design, they look like a family. Episode 2 really sold me on this one

Cinderella Girls Theater: It’s cute, it’s Idolm@ster, I’m sold

Idol Time Pripara: Pripara is back with new characters because the writers couldn’t think of new plots with the old ones...JK but the songs are great and the girls are cute and of course idols...I’m in

Things I have yet to watch but want to: Zero mage.Love note,Sakurada Reset,Busou shoujo machiavellianism, Twin Angel,  Alice to Zouroku

we’re a month into spring 2017 and so here is what I’m watching.  I hope it provides some insight into what series I think are worth watching.

Alice to Zouroku - It’s alright.  I’m a sucker for Older dudes raising little kids so this is a good recommendation from me. Attack On Titan S2 - It’s AoT.  Everybody knows this.  next. Boku No Hero Academia S2 - It a good show I’d recommend to anybody that likes shounens.   Boruto - I kinda refer to it as diet Naruto.  Its kinda refreshing to see characters learning to use their abilities as opposed to God Mode Naruto.  its a nostalgia recommendation for anybody with fond memories of Naruto.  I like it. Danmachi Sword Oratorio - It feels like a side story to the original Danmachi.  It’s cool.  Potential Waifu of the season in Ais Wallenstein. Eromanga-Sensei - Trash that I love.  I wanted more for Oreimo and this is what I was asking for.  Strong recommendation.  Potential Waifu of the season in Elf-Yamada. Grimoire Of Zero - Furry. Cute Loli.  Romance.  idk why but i actually like it.  i don’t think its for everybody.  Potential Waifu of the Season in Zero Hinako Note - CGDCT like theater troupes.  main girl has social anxiety and a body like a brick shithouse.  it seems they’re uping the fanservice in this with each episode.  Blue-haired girl is best girl but every girl brings something good to the show. The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Theater (TV) - i’ll always take more CG even if its moeblob shorts.   The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Theater (Web) - see above The King’s Avatar - I’ve been wanting an esport anime.  I’m glad to see its quality.  Protag-kun’s character goofy smile feels out of place and awkward but i’ll recommend it.  Note this is in chinese so the lines sound strange compared to the japanese I’m accustomed to. Little Witch Academia - haven’t followed in a couple weeks but it alright. Pokemon SM - it’s pokemon but with more SoL.  Big fan of this.  wish it was more regular. Renai Boukun - I don’t know how to describe this.  its a comedy harem where protag-kun isn’t dense.  good shit. Saekano S2 - Loved season 1.  Loving season 2.  shits happening and the stories progressing.  Big plot points happened this past week.  potential waifu in Utaha and Megumi. Sakura Quest - CGDCT running a tourism board.  really cute girls.  Potential waifu of the season in Shiori.  Alright.

As far as the waifu candidates listed above, I’ll probably do a wave 1 elimination of characters introduced in earlier seasons.  So no Utaha, Megumi, no CG, no Ais, No Sucy, Uraraha (i probably butchered that) or any of the other BnHA girls, and no Mikasa or other AoT girls.  i know i listed some of them above but whatever i contradict myself.
