you know u have to tell me about them
There's something about the oddness of their interactions that make these two my absolute favorite duo, oh one of them beat the shit out of the other in their first meeting? some house fire involved? the way Ritsu doesn't question things twice when Shou gets him on his side, it's so insane in a way, insane in the "teenager with a life worth of trauma baggage" way, and I'm living for it. They just clicked, understood each other, made such a great team and what they've achieved is so impressive considering how young they are, how difficult it all was.
Shou is just so relieved to not only have someone he could connect with- but also rely upon? It's always been so rare in his world to meet someone who would be willing to have his back and carry the weight with him, and it's especially different from those who were simply ordered to. Ritsu believed in Shou wholeheartedly, and that meant the world to him, it meant so much i cant express this ENOUGH. That's his friend that's HIS PERSON and Shou is so happy to have met him???? Ritsu is such an intelligent and resourceful boy, he is also so loyal and sincere towards those he cares about, and Shou actually admires him a lot for these things, he takes pride in calling Ritsu his friend!
I believe they're both not so good at this whole friendship thing, with Ritsu being his reserved self and Shou finally having time for friends in his life, but they're trying and it's so nice and heartwarming to see how they help each heal and truly live, they deserve to have fun and be silly and get free from all the shakles of fear and pain that came with psychic powers being in their lives.
#IM SOOOOOO#EMO ABOUT SHOU & RITSU#nobody touch me im so unstable#i love them so much they're such dumb loveable teenagers#THEY DESERVE HAPPINESS ISTG#hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#here you go ray i could go on but i need a nap#omg#⤷ ᯽・゚: 鈴木将 | character study.#⤷ ᯽・゚: 鈴木将 | 律。

another reason kanon has the lowest possibility of winning: the parallels between jessica/kanon and battler/yasu.
the narration talks a lot about how battler and jessica are similar: they're popular, outgoing, sincere, kind of naive, but ultimately good kids at heart. of course, it contrasts this with george, who is very reliable and dependable but not exactly outgoing or charismatic.
when jessica tells kanon that she believes in him, she knows he's human, and she wants to support him: kanon rejects her. because - yasu doesn't trust promises from people like jessica (or battler) anymore. for yasu, those people are flaky. their idea of love and support is naive based on being dramatic and Indulging Their Feelings. for yasu, she thinks: they have plenty of other people they could love instead. they're loveable people. their words aren't meaningful.
yasu wants to be like battler and jessica and takes to heart their words: battler's about understanding the heart of mysteries and people, and jessica's about creating ideal selves inside yourself. her feelings toward them are romantic and she indulges the fantasy of people like that loving her.
but then, yasu goes out of her way to disparage jessica with snide commentary on her grades or her boy obsession and painting her as a dumb teenage girl who shouldn't be taken seriously...even as she acknowledges jessica shines like the sun. it's very different from her battler crush, where he was her savior prince who was just being held up for Reasons for years.
anyway, in the end, shannon wins. and i think that's also in part because yasu sees jessica, and she reminds her of battler, so she can't trust her promises to accept and support her. meanwhile, george has always been reliable and dependable in a way that yasu can trust him.
this is also in part because they talk about george being not very attractive, having difficulty talking to girls, and not exactly being the life of the party. so yasu feels safer with him and less like he's just going to be able to forget her easily and move onto another girl.
anyway: yasu's in a love triangle. and usually the heroine takes the emotional choice: the guy who's more passionate and makes them feel more In Actual Love as opposed to the dependable guy who's fine on paper but doesn't make her Feel As Much. he's the practical choice.
after all she's lived through, OF COURSE yasu is taking the practical, safe choice!? sorry jessica but yasu's done with the Shoujo Manga Romances. she's been burnt already by pretty words from a pretty face. once was enough.
