Snowboarder!Bucky x fem!skiier!reader
Note: I was watching my friend being taught to snowboard and thought of this. Gif is not mine
Warnings: none?
Bucky plopped down into a snowbank unceremoniously and started to undo the strap attaching his back foot to his snowboard. Steve and Sam had gone off to run some black diamonds, but he never had quite felt confident on his other side after the incident that left him with a prosthetic arm. Not that he didnât trust it, but he had swapped sides for everything, writing, punching, even shooting. He was snapped out of his own shame spiral by a man, wearing a set of rather expensive and new looking gear, swearing at the woman who appeared to be trying to teach him.Â
âWhen you said skiing I didnât think you meant full fucking mountain day. I thought weâd get some drinks, hang out. This is fucking rediculous and these skis and fucking trash.âÂ
âYou said you knew how! I thought this was-â
âI said I had been before, I thought at least youâd fucking be nice about it. May-â
âJust go get a drink then!â You sounded exasperated and Bucky took a closer look, noting the well loved outfit and skis. Clearly they had been used and were being cared for as such.Â
âArenât you at least going to come?â It sounded more like a command to Bucky than a suggestion.Â
âNo, Iâm going to ski, which is what I paid for a pass to do. Iâll come meet you later.âÂ
âYeah well⊠donât drink. Youâre going to have to drive us back to the city.â The man stumbled away and you sighed, rubbing your forehead before kicking into your own skis and heading for the lift. Bucky cursed to himself after you had started moving and pushed his way up right behind you in the singles line. There werenât a whole load of people waiting for the lift, it was getting towards lunch time, and he managed to get up beside just you on the lift.Â
You glanced over at the snowboarder who decided he had to get on that chair with you, despite the mostly empty line behind you. He had all black gear with a crisp white jacket that had clearly been mended and bleached a few places. He rode goofy and his board knocked up against the edge of your skis when the chair rejoined the cable.Â
âI heard that guy being an asshole back there. Sorry you had to deal with the shitty part of the male species.â The somberness with which he said it made you laugh a little.Â
âThanks he was, uh, a set up kinda. Iâm new to town, and my parents decided the best way for me to make friends was to go out with one of their college friendsâ sons. This is technically our third date and⊠wow I am spilling info on a stranger. Sorry.â
âNo no, he sounds like he sucks. I heard you say he said he knew how.âÂ
âYeah! He did! And I even asked before we came out here. Clearly he bought that whole⊠whole getup to impress me. It was so stupid.â You were waving your hands emphatically and Bucky couldnât help but smile.
âWell, all I will say is that guys like that donât actually know how to do anything.â Silence lapsed as you started getting closer to the end of the lift.Â
âUh, how would you want to ride with me and my friends today? Or ski I guess. Iâm getting my footing back after an accident, but theyâre pretty good and Iâm sure they would love to have more friends.â You shrugged, hoping the cold air disguised the blush on your cheeks. Bucky had pulled up his goggles and pushed down his mask on the ride under the pretense of speaking more clearly, but you could tell he was handsome and right now was not the time to blow it.Â
âIâd love to ride with you for a while. Itâs my first time out this season and I could use an easy day.â He smiled and you both made your way off the lift. Your first run down you could tell that he was good, but kept holding back when he turned to his toe side. It was strange to watch since he seemed to favor it otherwise when he moved before. You told him as much at the end of the run.Â
âYeah, IâŠâ Your conversation was halted as you got back on the lift.Â
âI, uh, lost my arm kind of recently and I have a fantastic prosthetic, but still just⊠cautious.â You couldnât help but let the shock show on your face. His motions seemed entirely unbothered aside from his anxiety about falling.Â
âYou look like youâre doing great. I donât know you all that well but based on that run I feel like you shouldnât be doing the easiest trail on the hill.â He laughed and you began an amazing afternoon riding, and convincing him to go up to some blue slopes where you spotted some of his friends, who waved but quickly surpassed the slow loping runs you were taking.
âFuck, I do not want to ruin this amazing day with a car ride home with Dan.âÂ
âDan?â Bucky asked. It was getting late in the day and his legs were sore, but he was having too good of a time. During a short break at one of the stops on the mountain heâd finally gotten a look at your face aside from your nose and the strands that were collecting snow beside your goggles. He hadnât been able to stop picturing your face at every other event in his life since then.Â
âThe guy I was with this morning. The asshole.â Heâd basically forgotten about the existence of the other man after spending the day with you.Â
âWell, if youâre not totally opposed to riding a few more hours with a no longer stranger, I would be okay driving you back.â He watched your gears turning, deciding.Â
âIt would kinda be a massive fuck you to him if he had to sober up and drive home down this mountain alone.âÂ
âOh shit, do you think he woul-â
âNo, I have the keys. He doesnât seem bright enough to check the car for keys himself though. You sure you donât mind?â Mind? Bucky thought to himself, he wanted nothing more than to spend more time with you.Â
âNot at all.â You finished the next run, a harder one which Bucky took flawlessly, and dropped the keys off at a nice looking car, grabbing your bag, before you followed Bucky back to a slightly beat looking older SUV.Â
âI told Steve and Sam I would drop them down at Samâs car. Theyâll be here in a few minutes. Whatâs your address?â You dictated it to him, omitting the exact number or unit so you werenât completely risking yourself. To be totally fair he didnât have your full name or know all that much about you, yet.Â
âAnd maybe my phone numberâŠin case I forget something? Or in case you want a riding buddy again?â A sweet smile crossed Buckyâs face, blue eyes shining.Â
âSure.â You exchanged numbers and by the time youâd taken a goofy picture of him as a contact photo, his friends arrived. They didnât comment on your position in the passenger seat.Â
âSo, where do you live?â You told them where about in the city and Sam opened his mouth to commend, but received an icy blue look from Bucky. You couldnât help but wonder what else that icy blue stare could be for, but tucked the thought away for another time by yourself.Â
âThatâs mine. Thanks Buck, have a good driveâŠâ Steve cuffed him on the shoulder on the way out.
âWhat was that about?âÂ
âNothing.â You ended up talking for nearly the entire ride, and it was easy conversation. He told you about the snowboarding accident that had resulted in his lost arm, his job, his dog, Alpine. You told him about your roommate, your hometown, and how excited you were to have a fresh start after the absolute shitshow of your old job and friends.
âWhere do you live?â The question was entirely for your own benefit, so you could find out how realistic âaccidentallyâ running into him at a store could be.
âI uhâŠâ Buckyâs cheeks turned red when he told you.Â
âWHAT? Bucky, thatâs like an hour and a half the other way! Are you insane?â You were near your place already, and there was no use arguing with him that you getting out now to try to get another ride made no sense.Â
âI just wanted to spend some more time with you. It was such a great day.â You smiled, blushing as you gave him the final directions to your building.Â
âIt really was a great day.â He stopped in front of your place, idling as you sat in a few more moments of silence.Â
âMaybe we could have another great day? Skiing or maybe dinner?â You felt a little forward asking.Â
âWell given thereâs no natural way for me to accidentally run into you at the corner store, I guess that sounds like a great plan.â

âCome on, doll! Please tell me what sheâs going to be for Halloween!â Bucky whines.
âNo can do, babe. Itâs a girl thing.â You say, kissing his cheek.
Bucky has been asking you all day what yours and his daughter is going to be for Halloween, but you refuse to tell him.
âFine. If you wonât tell me, Iâll justâŠâ He cups your cheeks and kisses you like he did on your wedding day.
Bucky pulls away, leaving you speechless.
âNice try, babe. Still not telling you, but thank you for the kiss.â You say, kissing his cheek and walked away.
âDamn it!â Bucky curses making you giggle.
You went upstairs to your daughterâs bedroom. You knocked on the door before opening it.
âRebecca, are you ready? Your dad is getting anxious.â You say.
âYes, mommy.â Rebecca smiles widely.
âLetâs go show him your Halloween costume.â You smiled.
Rebecca walked out of her bedroom with you following behind her.
âAre you ready to see my Halloween costume, daddy?â Rebecca asks from the top of the stairs.
âYes I am, princess!â Bucky says with excitement.
âClose your eyes!â She giggles. âMake sure his eyes are closed, mommy.â She says.
You walked down the stairs to see Bucky with his eyes closed.
âHis eyes are closed, Becca!â You say.
Rebecca carefully walks down the stairs and stops in front of Bucky.
âCan I open my eyes?â Bucky asks.
âYes!â Rebecca says.
Bucky opens his eyes. His eyes widened in surprise when he seen Rebeccaâs Halloween costume. Sheâs dressed up as the Winter Soldier.
âIâm you, daddy!â She smiles.
âI see that.â He smiles.
Bucky crouched down to her height and gave her a hug.
âWhat made you want to be me for Halloween?â Bucky asks curiously.
âYouâre my hero, daddy!â Rebecca smiles. âI love you!â She hugs him.
âI love you too, princess.â He says softly.
âIâm not a princess! Iâm a soldier!â She pouts, crossing her arms over her chest.
âYouâre right. My apologies, soldier.â Bucky kissed her forehead. âYou ready to go trick or treating, my little soldier?â He asks.
âYes!â She says excitedly.
She grabbed her pumpkin bucket from the table and almost bolted out of the door.
âWoah! At ease, soldier!â Bucky stops her. âGive mommy kisses before you run out of the house.â He says.
Rebecca runs back to you to give you hugs and kisses.
âBe careful and stay safe, sweetie.â You kissed her cheek. âThat applies to you too, Sergeant.â You say, looking up at your husband.
âWeâll be careful and safe, doll.â Bucky says, kissing your lips.
âBye, mommy!â Rebecca says.
âSee you guys in a couple hours.â You say.
You sighed as the door closed. You looked down when you felt Alpine rub against your legs.
âLooks like itâs just me and you for a couple of hours, sweet girl.â You say, gently scratching her head.
You passed out candy to trick or treaters with Alpine by your side. Surprisingly, there was a lot of kids coming by your house this year. As time went by, everyone started to go home so you decided to call it a night and go inside to watch Halloween movies. Bucky and Rebecca came home two hours later. You got up to greet them and smiled when you seen Bucky carrying Rebecca. You kissed their cheeks.
âDid our little soldier fall asleep?â You asked, moving her hair from her face.
âYes, about 5 minutes ago.â Bucky kisses your cheek. âIâm going to put her to bed and we can watch movies.â He says.
âOk.â You smiled.
Bucky went upstairs while you went back to the living room to get comfortable on the couch. He came back down a few minutes later in comfortable clothes and sat down next to you.
âWhat are we watching?â Bucky asks.
âHocus Pocus.â You grinned.
Bucky smiled at your cuteness and gave you a kiss on your forehead. You played the movie and snuggled into his side. Bucky wrapped his arm around you protectively.
âHappy Halloween, Buck.â You say, looking up at him.
âHappy Halloween, doll.â Bucky says, kissing your lips.

Pairing: Sam x Bucky
Summary: Bucky tries to sneak in a kitty but Sam isn't dumb.
Word Count: 628
A/N: this is just pure fluff bc i was sad and fluff helps me feel a lil better so here is a quick something. yes i know alpine exists but yeah shhh
also, i know bucky is a lil out of character but idc i just want me some pouty blushy excited bucky ok?
English might be bad dont mind me
AO3 here
Bucky always considered himself a cat person. Sure, tiny puppies are adorable too but his heart is a little weaker for small kittens. He loves them, literally. He loves their soft fur and tiny pink nose. He has a soft spot for their small round paws and their round shiny eyes. Everything about cats made Bucky smile, from the way they purr when they get scratches on the right spot, to the way they like to play with anything. Bucky kind of sees himself in a cat, they are lazy most of the time, yet still energetic. They mind their own business and also, they are super small and loveable. Yeah, Bucky just absolutely loves cats.
So of course, when he saw the small orange kitten behind a shop, he knew had to get it somewhere safe. The kitten looked so weak and was clearly starving, it wouldâve been a crime to leave that tiny baby there and Bucky would never forgive himself if he did that. So he picked it up and carefully hid it in his jacket, making sure to leave enough room for air.
Bucky is a cat person, sure , but he is not a good liar, everyone knows that by now. It is easy to spot whenever the brunette is lying. His face gets slightly red, he keeps on eating his words and he avoids looking at people, which is a big thing for someone with a ' staring problem' . That is why Sam immediately knew something was up when Bucky hurriedly entered the room holding his stomach and ignoring the other's presence.
Sam only sighed, slowly moving around on the bed to find a comfortable sitting position. âOkay, what is it this time."
âHuh?â Bucky looked back at him, eyes wide and still standing there in the middle of the room.
âWhat are you hiding?â
âNothing,â the brunette said way too quickly. Samâs lips twitched in the way they did when he was trying really hard not to smile. âBaby, I know you have something under this jacket.âÂ
Bucky tilted his head, blinking innocently at Sam. âI donât see what you mean.â
âBuck, spill it out.â
Of course, to Buckyâs luck, itâs right at that moment that the kitten decided to make its presence known by meowing loudly.
âDrugs,â he said a little too loudly. Sam just stared at him, raising one eyebrow.
âAh yes, the meowing kind, right?â
With a deep defeated sigh, Bucky unzipped his jacket and gently brought out the kitty who continued meowing cutely.Â
âI named her Jelly,â he pouted.
âGive it to me,â Sam ordered after a moment of silence. Bucky only pouted harder, hesitantly handing the fur baby to the other. âLook I know itâs a big responsibility and I didnât ask if you were okay with having a cat in here but I couldnât leave her alone out there. We can always find some-â
âShe looks like you,â Sam cut him off, smiling sweetly as he held the tiny kitty in his hands.
âHuh?â
âWe can keep her, I donât mind having a pet here, plus I know youâve always wanted a cat so why not?â
âReally?!â Buckyâs voice went up with excitement, his round wide eyes shining and a bright smile appeared on his face. Sam was definitely melting inside at the sight.
[The next day was spent at the pet store, buying tons of cat stuff for Jelly. Bucky was so excited, tugging on Samâs sleeve to show him some ridiculous toys or speaking rapidly, asking him for suggestions on the color of the collar or which treats they should buy. Needless to say, Sam is a fool in love and the smile on Buckyâs lips almost made his heart stop way too many times.]

Hayloft - Intro
Series Masterlist - Bucky Masterlist - Full Masterlist
Summary: A young girl finds a soldier hiding in the hayloft on her fatherâs farm. Intrigued, she visits him more and more until her father finds out and puts him to work. As they grow closer, something else grows too.
Pairing: James Buchanan âBuckyâ Barnes x OC Jenny Richelle âRickyâ Hill
Warning: Strong language, inaccurate war description
Authorâs note: Based on the song Hayloft by Mother Mother and the lovestory of my grandparents. I am Dutch and the war was a bit different here, so I will be basing this on the stories Iâve heard about my grandparents.
Word count: 1624
Early in the morning, just afte sunrise, a girl steps on her bike to cycle to work. She works in the post office because she is expected to work as the oldest sibling despite her amazing academics. The eldest has a role to fulfill and sheâs accepted that by now, but she canât help but wonder what could have been had she gone to college. Oh well, itâs all past now. She cycles through the street trying to tune out wailing mothers, partners, sisters, and others. Recruitment had hit the town hard. Most young men were already taken. She couldnât be happier that her brothers are not of age yet and her sister isnât allowed to serve. And she? Well, she wouldâve loved to rise above her station. Make her parents proud by joining the army but women arenât allowed to do so. And so she puts her bike on its lock in front of the post office and heads inside.
Early in the morning, just before sunrise, a man cautiously tiptoes through the fields of a farmer just out of town. Just far enough to get cover, just close enough to be able to run if needed. Just days ago he watched everyone he loved get recruited. Either by free will or by force. They didnât care. You have to fight for this nation to keep it free. Heâs seen too many people die already. Heâs done his part but they donât think so. He watches as the farmerâs family gets ready inside the farmhouse. He watches, who he considers to be, the eldest daughter put breakfast on the table for everyone and gather her things to leave. He watches as she steps outside and onto her bike. She didnât see him. He looks around for a place to hide. The hayloft. Of course. While the family is still inside, he climbs into the hayloft and hides in hopes no one will find him.
âMorning Jenny, how are you doing,â an older woman asks Jenny with a smile on her face. Her name is Michelle and her husband was drafted, but everyone knew there was something off between them. Michelle would often have odd explanations for random bruises and scratches. Jenny put one and two together very quickly after she started working at the post office. But now that her husbandâs gone, Michelle has been thriving. Things couldnât be better for her right now. âYou know, same old, same old,â Jenny answers, shrugging off her coat, âjust happy the remainder of my family wasnât taken away.â âThatâs fair,â she hums, âoh, I saw a young man flee the soldiers this morning. Thereâs been a lot of that in the news these days. Iâd watch the farm a little closer if I were you.â Jenny chuckles, âlots of nooks and crannies to hide. And with two girls on the farm-â âDonât worry about that. My father has a shotgun loaded and ready if they dare,â she chuckles, âwouldnât want to be put against the wall for hiding someone.â âBy the way,â Michelle says as she puts a hand in front of her mouth in shock, âdid you hear misses Wednesday was hiding her cousin? Heâs shipped off and sheâs been put on the wall.â âDear lord, how the world has changed. That is cruel I must say,â Jenny murmurs as she sits down at her post. The girls look up as the door opens. In walk three soldiers looking nothing less than annoyed. Well, the two younger soldiers look annoyed. The older one, who seems to be higher ranking, does seem to enjoy himself. âGood morning ladies,â the higher ranking one says while he takes his hat off. âGood morning,â Michelle says with a smile, âhow may we help you?â âI am sergeant Winter, this is private Jonas and private Greenland. We got orders to post the pictures of stowaways at the post office,â the man tells them, âmay we?â A question out of friendliness, to give the women fake freedom to decide but they know itâs just for protocol. âOf course, Jenny, help them clear the board,â Michelle gestures at Jenny to hurry. She hurries from behind the desk to clear the cork board that holds folders for some events that couldnât be anymore and small neighborhood announcements. Jenny clears away the things that passed or arenât happening anymore and pins all their own announcements to the right so that the pictures can be hung on the left. All the while being stared at up and down. It makes her a bit uncomfortable, but she knows others have it worse. One of her friends got felt up and down by a soldier each time she had to pass one of their stations. Frisking they called it. Grabbing a girlâs boobs and butt each and every time she passes your station isnât frisking, thatâs groping. At least these soldiers hadnât tried to touch her yet. âCould I get you gentlemen a cup of coffee,â Jenny asks to be friendly. âThat would be wonderful,â sergeant Winter smiles. The other two seem to have a bit of a grin on their faces while they keep working. Jenny doubts they get much time to drink coffee. Itâs the least she can do. âMichelle, you do want coffee?â Michelle nods and so Jenny disappears into the back and reappears with a tray with coffee cups, milk, sugar, and some biscuits. The soldiers thank her and finish their work and coffee. Jenny insists they take another biscuit for the road, even if they donât want to, and then itâs just Michelle and Jenny again. âFriendly gentlemen,â Michelle murmurs. Jenny gathers the coffee cups and takes a look at the cork board. âAny interesting faces?â âJohnny Meadow,â Jenny reads, âused to go to school with that lad. Real smart kid, left town to study law and came back because mom and pop werenât doing so swell.â Michelle gets up and walks over to Jenny. She studies the faces of the men on the board. âSeems like most these kids skipped town,â she guesses, âI havenât seen any of these faces around.â Jenny looks a little closer. âYouâre right. Most of them say where theyâre from. There are a few from a town over, but this one,â she points at a fine looking gentleman who seems to have served at one point judging from his picture, âis from another state.â âYou gotta admit itâs impressive,â Michelle shrugs, âI couldnât do it.â âI think I could,â Jenny grins, âavoided my dad with secret boyfriends often enough.â Michelle looks at Jenny with an impressed look. Jenny shrugs and chuckles. âOh you rascal,â Michelle laughs as she pushes Jenny a little, âletâs get back to work. I got a few letters for you to deliver.â
The man watches from under the hayloft as he sees the girl on the bike come back home. She looks tired and her hairâs a mess, but thereâs something about her. He watches her fix her hair a little bit, put on a pretend smile, and wait. Two younger men run outside to greet her and take her bag off her shoulders. She messes with their hair and puts her arms around their shoulders with a big smile on her face. A true family. How wonderful. He wishes he could see his mother again. Or his best friend. He wonders how he is doing now that heâs gone. They used to rely on each other a lot. He wonders when he might be able to go home, if ever. He sighs and tries to get comfortable on the hay but he has a hard time going to sleep on an empty stomach and the hay pricking his skin isnât really helping though it is more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. He tosses and turns, trying to avoid making the wood creak. A soft meowing almost makes his heart stop out of shock, but luckily his head quickly registers the sound. A cat? He pushes himself up on his elbows to look over the haystack. Coming towards him is a small, probably juvenile, white cat with beautiful long fur and deep blue eyes. It almost looks like a ghost cat. He smiles as he tries to get the creature to come closer. âHi there, who are you,â he coos quietly, holding his hand out so the cat can sniff it. She doesnât take long to curl up next to him. It makes him feel comfortable for the first time in weeks. Something about a pet curling up next to you just clams the nerves. He freezes at the sound of the front door of the farmhouse opening. âAlpine,â a womanâs voice calls and he watches the ears of the little white creature peek up, but she doesnât really make an effort to move. After all, cats are on their own schedule. âAlpine, where are you?â He hears the voice come closer and then he hears the ladder creak. That isnât good. âAlpine?â He throws the cat towards the front of the hayloft where the ladder is, but the cat isnât having any of it. He tries to bury himself under the hay while the cat tries to get back to him. He sees a womanâs face peek over from the ladder. She hasnât seen him yet. âAlpine, what are you playing at,â the woman laughs as she sees the cat trying to bury itself with him, âcome on, I got some scraps left for you.â The cat doesnât list to her. The girl sighs and climbs onto the hayloft, letting herself fall onto the hay just inches from where heâs laying. He feels his heart beating faster and faster.
