A friend of mine recently stumbled upon a few genshin-based Tarot decks and the choices people make are so random. For example, one has Tartaglia as Hierophant, the other one drew him as a Page of Pentacles. Really?
I mean, I could make a deck with this guy alone, no other characters (except for NPC roles) but that's a different case.
If I had to pick him for any major arcana it would probably be The Moon. Illusions, irreality, nothing being what it seems, the need to pass between extreme choices because the real goal lies further ahead.
(but also literally anything else. The Fool, The Magician, The Chariot, The Wheel of Fortune, The Star even)
I'm also having fun choosing the best pair for The Lovers. Ideally it's not about romantic love, it's about difficult choices. Also the connections to other cards make someone Khaenriah-related preferable.
This means the best fitting pair of characters would be Kaleluc. Which... you know. I don't even ship these two.
(I pondered about Chilumi for a while, they'd look perfect aesthetically, but there's in fact no choice in that story. the illusion of choice only exists in fanon)
(if I could draw, I'd probably draw a Problematic Genshin Tarot
mpreg for The Empress. don't thank me)

love the explanations you have for each tarot, especially yuki’s and alex’s!! please keep the commentary coming!!
!!!! Thank you!!! This is my favorite part of doing this series :-). I just think it’s no fun without the explanations!!
This series is nice bc there’s like. No right answer to a card?? So even though I’m ADAMANT in most of my choices. Like to me Lando IS the death card, and Yuki IS the Moon etc etc there are lots of people who I’ve talked to that totally disagree and have a way different perspective and it’s so cool to hear that!!! I talked to someone recently that wants to do this with all classic f1 drivers like that’s SO SICK
At some point I might put out my little google doc with the tarot defs and my reasonings for each card lol

Hello! I'd like to request "There's an 80% chance of this working out" from List 5 with Mahiru and Mikoto! Horoscope Girl and Tarot Boy...what will they do...
Ooh this one was so fun, thank you!! It was really neat learning about tarot :0 (It'll take a bit longer, but I got carried away with the idea and also started writing something of Mikoto doing a reading for Fuuta hehe). It always makes me sad that Mahiru doesn’t trust Mikoto at first, so it was really fun to picture them bonding over things like this during T1! I never thought of them having that in common and my mind has been opened to this duo asdfsdfds
“Alright, I’m going to need you to manifest your energy as hard as you can.”
Mahiru squeezed her eyes shut. Her face scrunched up in concentration. She let out a little hum of effort as she poured all her emotions into the card deck under her fingertips.
“Uh… maybe not that hard, Mappi.”
She looked up with a giggle. “Right, right! I’m just so curious!” Well, she was curious about how a tarot reading itself would go, not about what it would tell her. Mahiru was fairly confident of her upcoming verdict, and the cards would only confirm it. So far only one prisoner had been named guilty, and everyone could see he was just a bully. Mahiru was nothing like him. She would be forgiven. She just knew it.
Mikoto started shuffling the cards. “Are you ready?”
“Oh, yes!”
To be honest, she’d had her suspicions about Mikoto for a while. His smile was too perfect at all hours of the day. (Even someone as cheery as her knew a smile like that couldn’t be consistently real.) She’d seen enough cheaters who chatted as easily as he could with everyone here. His nicknaming habit was a cute one, but she was keeping her eye on how informally he acted with little basis for friendship. She knew for sure he was a dangerous flirt when he’d grabbed her palm to read her fortune, launching into talk of life and love lines. However, none of that meant he was lying about his tarot expertise -- so who was she to refuse his offer to read her cards?
Her eyes glimmered as she watched Mikoto lay out three cards before her. Though he used the same theatrics he had for the others, she was just as entranced. It was just so magical, she thought.
Mikoto circled his palms over the cards. “We’re going to begin by looking at the past and present to get a bit of perspective before we move on to what your future will hold, alright?” He’d already explained that the cards couldn’t read one’s future as much as they offered self-awareness. He said it was all about being in tune with oneself, and the world. She was sure someone like him was already perfectly aligned within himself, but she could admit her heart carried her away at times…
Mahiru held her breath as he flipped the first card. She studied his face for any trace of negativity. Seeing her worry, he slipped back into his usual smile. “For the past, we have the Reversed Page of Cups,” he said. “This suit deals with emotions and intuition.”
Mahiru nodded, excited at the accuracy. Her past certainly had its share of intense feelings.
“This card in particular may mean emotional insecurity, or immaturity. It could also point to an avoidance of reality, something that’s not being faced head-on.”
She nodded, with a little less excitement this time.
“It also represents a specific person who influences you.” His face lit up, recalling Mahiru’s favorite topic. “Pages can represent a companion! Is there a romantic someone in your life who may have been causing some emotional insecurity?”
Picking up on the way her face paled, he said quickly, “or maybe not! They could be a messenger, or a childlike figure, or…” He reached for the next card. “Moving on, uh, to the present. Ah! This is a really good sign.”
She perked up.
“Here’s Justice. It’s fairly self-explanatory, representing the consequences that follow your actions. It’s about cause and effect, and accountability. It means things are happening according to karma, which is natural.”
He turned over the last card. “And finally, when looking to the future, we’ve got the Two of Swords. Swords deal with the mind -- conflict and communication. That’s… interesting.”
Mahiru’s eyes grew round. “What’s interesting?” She slid the card closer to herself, studying the picture. A blindfolded woman with two swords. There was water, and the moon. Was that bad? Was the woman unhappy? She was all alone. What did that mean?
“Don’t worry,” Mikoto soothed. “It just means you’ll make a big choice. Well, actually, it means you’ll get stuck, so you need to make a choice. I just thought it was funny, we’re here wondering about Es’ decision, but it turns out you’re the one who needs to make a decision.”
“Ah,” she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Now we can look at the big picture. It seems like some of your past problems may have come from emotional issues, so you’ll want to keep an eye on your emotions going forward.” Mahiru shifted. “The fact that we pulled Justice should reassure you about being here. I’ve heard some of the others complain that they don’t belong here, or it’s all a mistake, but this card is showing you that it’s just cause and effect. The events of your life are running their natural course.”
It was true, even she had been unhappy that her actions were being labeled that of a murderer. After all, those were an entirely different breed of people, right? Someone like Fuuta, who was guilty. People like her and Mikoto could never raise a hand to another. It was good to know, then, that this was all meant to be.
“And going forward, you’re gonna want to make sure you’re being decisive. Face your problems head-on, and communicate. If you can do that, things will be alright.” He folded his hands on the table, finished his reading.
Mahiru thought for a moment. A smile crept onto her face, growing larger and brighter by the second. She clasped her hands together. “That’s wonderful! Thank you so much for doing this. It’s told me everything I need to know.”
“Yeah?” He picked the cards up, shuffling them back into the deck. She pulled a slip of paper from her pocket, pointing to some lines scribbled down.
“Yes. I’ve been jotting down some birthdays, see? I’ve had to make a few guesses until I get more information, but if Es is either a Scorpio or a Virgo… as a Capricorn myself… we’re very compatible, look! Capricorns have excellent communication with both of those signs, and you said that’s what I’ll need to get through this tough decision.” She turned the paper over to reveal more notes. “On top of that, my extraction is scheduled right before my birthday, during Capricorn’s governing period. At that time, things will be aligned more in my favor.”
Mikoto’s eyebrows raised at her notes, impressed. “Wow! You have this all worked out, huh? If that’s the case, you seem very prepared to have a successful interrogation.”
She steepled her fingers. “I’d say there’s an 80% chance of this working out!”
“Definitely!”
He returned her beaming smile. Things would be perfect. Nothing to worry about.

would love to hear abt oc lore and why u assigned each tarot cards to them :>
ALRIGHT the basic background for this lore is that I have a couple different stories that take place in the same town (Frettstock) and I decided to make a crossover w/ the individual protagonists of three of them, as well as a fourth character who kickstarts the story surrounding the lore. This would be the premise of the second "book" of my webcomic (that idk if I'll ever actually write) where the fourth character is introduced.
Tumblr media
^The four of them! From left to right: Serena (new to this story), Max (Heartstake Heartbreak), Gilbert (We're Just Young) and Rex (Rex Sucks at Bass). They're all drawn as animals here, but Max and Gilbert are drawn as humans on their tarot cards because they're drawn as humans in their original stories. They're all technically humans but everyone in my webcomic is an anthro animal because they're just easier to draw haha. Gilbert is also drawn as his younger self on his tarot card, about ten years before this story takes place.
Essentially, the four of them are part of a reincarnation cycle I've named The Unlucky Four: four individuals who are destined to play four-stringed instruments and have terrible luck. I'll put the rest of this under the cut since there's a lot lol
The Unlucky Four were the first humans to bear curses from the fairies of the Heartstake Forest. In retaliation, they created guardian fairies - fairies who's purpose is to protect and guide humans. All of this magic experimentation caused their souls to continue to reincarnate, time after time. Each time new reincarnations are born, they receive a new guardian fairy. There may be other reincarnation cycles and guardian fairies tied to Frettstock, but the Unlucky Four are the main ones. I named them after tarot cards because I thought it sounded cool but I imagine the in-universe reasoning is that the original four wanted to keep their identities anonymous when documenting their story & chose tarot cards they felt connected to to represent themselves. The current incarnations of the Unlucky Four are Serena Walker (The Magician), Max Dallas (The Fool), Gilbert Quarters (The Hermit) and Rex Xavier (The Chariot). All of the current incarnations of the Unlucky Four play the bass guitar, which is part of the reason why I chose them lol.
Tumblr media
THE MAGICIAN - The Magician will always bring the four together. She knows how to get things done, and get things done she will... even if these things aren't the "right" thing to do. The original Magician played the fiddle. The current Magician is Serena Walker. I chose The Magician to represent her because it represents resourcefulness and skill when upright, and wasted talent and trickery when reversed. Serena is a bit of an anti-hero. She has a goal & the outcome of that goal may bring about the apocalypse. Who knows. Serena was the first to find out about the reincarnation cycle, years before the rest. As a child, she stumbled upon a hidden section of the Frettstock Public Library and read of her destiny in a book. She's been devoted to learning as much as she can surrounding the reincarnation cycle ever since.
THE FOOL - The Fool is ruled by impulse. She doesn't think, she just does. The Fool's willingess to do anything and blind trusting nature compliment The Magician's skills and drive. The original Fool played the banjo. The current Fool is Maxine "Max" Dallas. I chose The Fool to represent her because it represents innocence and freedom, as well as recklessness and gullibility when reversed. Max has had a troubled past and is starting to build a better life for herself. She gets easily attached to anyone who gives her the time of day and will do anything for them without thinking. This happens to her with Phoebe Jean Weathers in her original story, and with Serena in this one. No matter what happens to her, Max will always trust those who are kind to her, sometimes to her detriment. She has a short temper and an even shorter attention span.
THE HERMIT - The Hermit thrives in solitude. His first instinct is always to be alone. The Hermit is always at least a decade older than the rest of the four, and acts as a sort of wise, advice-giving mentor figure. The original Hermit played the mandolin. The current Hermit is Gilbert Quarters. In his original story, Gilbert is a loner who hates conflict. He hates asking for things and would rather be miserable than be in an awkward situation. I chose The Hermit for him because it represents solitude and self-reflection, as well as loneliness and isolation when reversed. At the time he appears in this story, Gilbert is a semi-famous rock star with a drinking problem who is considering turning his entire life upside-down and moving back home. His wider character arc involves him learning to balance his solitude alongside relying on old friends.
THE CHARIOT - The Chariot is conflicted. He is pulled in different directions by everyone around him - but if he is driven away, he will always come back. If the Magician brings the group together, The Chariot keeps the group from falling apart. The Chariot and The Hermit will always find each other before the full group is united. The original Chariot played the dulcimer. The current Chariot is Rex Xavier. Rex spent the first twenty years of his life totally lacking direction, but now he's doing whatever he can to move forward. He is constantly in crisis over some aspect of himself. I chose The Chariot for him because it represents determination and success, as well as aggression and lack of control when reversed. Rex & Serena were intended to be foils even before I came up w/ this lore, like a mutual "I think you're so much better than me but I also think you're bad" kind of dynamic.
Thanks for reading this extremely long winded post to the end! I only have the lore and some minimal plot details rn, but maybe one day I'll write it all out. Maybe it'll even be a comic someday. Maybe I'll end up hating it and rewriting the whole thing. Who knows.

I'm that person who just asked that and you're fucking great. You're fucking awesome. I love you already and I don't even know you (non weird way) so my questions are, can you ask apollo and aphrodite what they think of me and if they still want me to talk to them and stuff bc aphrodite has been quiet and I'm scared I disrespected her 💔
-mcme
Thanks in advance, you're awesome 🙌💛
Heyo! I finally have had the chance to sit down for readings, so here's yours! Because of how difficult it can be for me to parse what is from who, I specifically had them do this in sections- asking them both the questions individually. I was super excited for this one! Deity readings my beloved <3 That being said, anything in quotation marks is what I get directly from them! (technically a channeled message but it still feels weird calling it that because it sounds way fancier than how I feel doing it.)
For anyone interested, my Ko-Fi is at the end of this post! Free readings are temporary (and usually smaller) than the paid readings I do over there!
Aphrodite:
"What do you think of them?"
Eight of Swords reversed: Awakening, Liberation, Open to Change. The things popping out to me about this card is about accepting who you are, flaws and all. Not only taking responsibility for flaws and mistakes, but accepting them without self-judgement. "You're not a burden. You're not a monster for any mistakes or flaws, you simply are. Existing is morally neutral; you aren't doing anything wrong by taking up space and breathing air. I'm not vain, I am beautiful- and so are you. No matter how you feel. Don't judge yourself too harshly."
Ace of Swords reversed: Confusion, Headcase, Disarray. To me this looks like it's primarily a card of mental chaos bordering on losing a sense of reality- and looking for an outside opinion to clarify what is accurate and what is just anxiety going haywire. The choice is ultimately yours to clear your head, of course, but it looks like- since you really ARE getting an outside opinion by requesting a reading- you're on the right track. "Do you really think you can offend the goddess of beauty and love? It is in my essence to be beautiful and loving. I am not so fragile in my beauty as to lash out at humans for embracing their own beauty. It's not in my nature to lash out at all, for any reason; love is all-encompassing, unconditional. What I am is the sort of love that looks at even the deepest darkest parts of your soul, the parts that you and everyone else rejects, and holds those parts close and tells you that even that is worth loving because it is you. There's no part of you I don't love; you can't drive me away so easily, you know." Okay, I swear to you I felt the little ;P after that. Like she winked. I'm not even joking. (she thinks she's very endearing, for one, and that I'm being too serious just because what she said before seemed a little intense.)
"What do you have to say to them?"
King of Pentacles: Attainment, Property, Abundance. The King of Pentacles is all about wealth and abundance, prosperity in all its forms but especially financial. This could be a sign that you have good things ahead, or that you need to see the opportunities right in front of you and take them. This could, if my intuition is correct in singling out a specfic meaning rather than the overall meaning of this card, be a matter of quality over quantity. "Time spent together is time well spent." Maybe rather than worrying when your deities are less active, use that time to rest or work on other areas of your life; not only that, but spend the time you have with them well and quantity won't be an issue.
Seven of Swords: Deception, Discreet, Secrets. This card feels like it's talking less about someone else in your life, and more about you. It doesn't feel like a warning AGAINST deception though; instead it feels like a gentle reminder to protect yourself and your secrets. Don't trust the wrong people. (I confirmed this with the cards so I knew for sure.) "Does someone who could do you harm really deserve to see the parts of you that they could take advantage of? No. Every part of you is worth loving, but not everyone in life will see that; restrict their access to the vulnerable parts of you. There's no use playing pigeon chess,* and there's no use revealing yourself to people who won't care." (*this is a phrase that basically says there's no use arguing/debating with people who don't care in the first place/"stupid people" because "The pigeon will shit on the board and walk all over it like it won." They won't play by the rules of your game, so don't engage at all.)
Apollo:
"What do you have to say to them?"
Justice reversed: Injustice, Unfair, Delinquency. Things are just NOT fair right now, and maybe you're looking for a scapegoat. Instead, be honest with yourself and take responsibility for any possible role you are playing. (note that I am NOT victim-blaming here. This is one possible interpretation for this card.) The situation at hand is likely very black-and-white, so get to the root of it- it's not as complicated as it may seem. If you've truly done your best to right the situation, file it under "lessons learned" and move on. "This isn't an impossible puzzle, kid- it's okay. Take a deep breath, you're not losing your mind, just look and actually SEE and it'll be alright. You're almost there."
Six of Wands: Victory, Validation, Acknowledgement. You've persevered through a lot, and now- or soon- you'll get the recognition that you fuckin' deserve! Apollo's giving off a lot of hype I won't lie. There's rewards coming your way, and you absolutely should take a look back and appreciate your progress yourself. Look at how far you've come!! Pay attention to that- you're not the same person you once were, you're blossoming into a new one and that's okay. All I'm getting from Apollo is "holy shit you've done it :D Look at you :D" so…. He's happy with you, clearly! They both obviously love you so much, I don't think you've upset them at all.
"What do you think of them?"
Princess of Swords: Inquisitive, Verbose, Lively. Apollo is the god of the arts, and you absolutely have the creative spirit! So many ideas, so much excitement about those ideas- you both have so much work to do in the best way possible! There's a thirst to learn and Apollo is excited to help. You're probably good at getting your ideas out there, or at least Apollo thinks you could be! In this reading this card is giving off major major high-energy vibes, Apollo thinks you definitely have what it takes to pursue your dreams and keep fuckin' going! "You have no idea what's ahead, and no idea how good you're going to be at it- this is a gift of yours that you ignore far too often, and it needs to be brought to light (pun very intended.) Don't ignore your talents!"
Last card, so closing statement from both:
The Hermit: Soul-Searching, Reflection, Truth. Explore yourself with the same curiosity that the last card implied you explore the world with. Pay attention to your inner world, yourself, and your core values; learn about yourself so you can truly know all aspects of yourself. Give yourself permission to withdraw a little for the sake of spending time on yourself. Self-acceptance is important, and you can't do that if you aren't listening to yourself! Spend some time working on you and only you, rather than your relationships. You deserve it :D Since this feels like it's from both of them and messages get jumbled when they're both trying to get through, It's short, but I can get one thing very clear: "Take care of yourself." It's easy to prioritize other things in life, but you need to switch gears and prioritize you above all else.
HOO BOI this one took a while to do! Aphrodite and Apollo are wonderful I love them /pos I hope it resonates, and I hope it helped! I appreciate feedback or a response if it did, but no pressure! Here's my Ko-Fi in case you want to tip, and so others can check it out! I do more in-depth readings over there. Most free readings will be only a few cards, but this one ended up being the length of a paid reading so it's an okay example.

Some Assorted Notes & Musings on How I Read Cards
Tumblr media
So @rivthewitch suggested I talk about how I interpret cards for tarot, and I love hearing how other people interpret their cards too, so here are some ways that I read/interpret my cards and some of the rational behind those methods.
🔮 First I think it's a bit important to go over which sources I really used to learn tarot. I primarily learned from the Labyrinthos app and this website (thetarotguide.com) and I've found both to be pretty solid resources if there's anyone wanting recommendations for learning tarot. Some tarot books can be helpful and well done, but I would recommend that after you learn the basic meanings of the cards I'd try to find tarot books that are based on a 'tarot from x perspective' or 'tarot with x focus' for deeper insight. Taking notes about what cards manifest for you is also very helpful (for example, if you notice that the 3 of cups can indicate gossip more often with a certain deck). A lot of good card reading is intuition as well, sometimes things will come to you in the middle of a reading and sometimes you can pick up on unsaid things from the person asking for the reading. The individual art/visual seeds for decks also affect how things are interpreted (I give some detailed examples at the end with pictures).
🔮 Tarot/cartomancy in general is (in my experience) not for telling the future but for getting insight into the present energy/elements in motion. Divination tools give insight, but you should make your own decisions and outcomes can be changed. I don't care if you're getting a reading from the most talented reader in the world, you still need to evaluate a situation/concern and make you're own decisions. I (as a reader) basically take what context I know, the energy surrounding the subject, motivating factors, and the boundaries at play to say "ok this is where everything is and what's going on, X is probably what could happen- do with that what you will". At the end of the day, I'm just someone with some cards and the people involved in the situation I'm reading for are going to know better about what to do about that situation.
🔮 The main way I read cards is drawing cards for what a reading represents and then read those cards in context of the reading topic and what I know of the people in question. I could draw the same 3 cards for different people but those cards would mean different things/have specific nuances based off of the person's question and contexts.
🔮 I don't care what the reading is about (love, career, whatever) just because a reading indicates potential in something doesn't mean you have to pursue it. If a love reading indicates a connection has potential, if you don't want to date someone then you shouldn't. Simple as that. There are probably multiple different relationships or opportunities in your life currently that have some level of potential that you're not pursuing because you're just not interested (and that's perfectly fine). If you really want something, go for it despite a reading and if you don't want something don't feel pressured by a reading to go after it.
🔮 I used to use a lot of spread patterns (even made an outline and put it up on the blog) but I don't really use them often anymore. I'm not against using them obviously and structuring the cards in ways that make reading them easier is beneficial, but I don't tend to need spreads in smaller readings.
🔮 I really prefer to use oracle cards in conjunction with tarot in the bigger readings I do for people because a lot of them are more specialized in terms of topic.
🔮 I also definitely prefer reading for some topics more than others. I also, IMO, tend to do better work with the topics I prefer.
🔮 I really enjoy reading for people I've already established a rapport with, and while I'm not anyone's main reader (that I'm aware of) there are some people online and irl that basically just have to ask and I'll do a big reading for them. Having that rapport with them also allows me to look at cards and make easier connections because I know a bit more about them. Larger readings do tend to be more work for me, but some people are just a pleasure to read for.
🔮 I'm not hugely into the theory of birth cards, but I do tend to keep a lookout for the birth card sets if they show up together in a reading.
🔮 I actually changed how I drew cards a little over a year ago from selecting cards that felt right from the deck to shuffling and taking what one/two cards that jumped from the deck, and from feedback I've gotten and from personal observations I'd say the accuracy of my readings have really improved. I'll also put cards that jumped back into the deck if it doesn't make sense with what I've pulled or am reading for, but if the card jumps again it's kept in the reading. Establishing a relationship and or talking to decks in my experience tends to help (I usually try to at least thank my decks and other divination tools after using them if nothing else).
🔮 I don't typically read gender into most of the face cards or major arcana if the card is meant to represent a person in a reading. The cards representing someone (obviously) tend to reflect either where they are in life or their personal characteristics so most cards could represent anyone. I've had men come up as pages or queens and I show up as a knight or king pretty regularly in readings so🤷. In my experience it usually just comes down to either where they're positioned in life/the reading or their general vibe/presentation.
🔮 I also tend to interpret my 2 tarot decks a bit differently as well, because the visual seeds of my Rider-Waite deck and my Shadowscapes deck are very different (I also use these decks for different topics as well, and I went more into that in this post). But usually (for my decks and their specialties) I let my Shadowscapes deck deal with relationships/spirituality/emotions and my Rider-Waite deck deal with more practical life matters/hobbies/creative pursuits/jobs (my Rider-Waite specifically hates doing romance readings and will be mean about it).
🔮 I've noticed that the 2 of Swords show up in a lot of the love readings I do, but that makes sense in that most of the love readings I do involve deciding whether there will be a relationship going forward or not. The 2 of Swords is often a decision that is permanent though.
🔮 I don't (typically) see Death or the Tower cards as necessarily horrible cards, but I usually interpret them as something that the person I'm reading for may not really like. Abrupt upheaval or a big change is often quite uncomfortable/unpleasant even if the end result is needed. Depending on the context of what I'm reading for, I'd honestly be more worried about a reversed Tower or reversed Death because those can indicate resisting change that is inevitable (and often needed). The Tower collapses because the foundation of what is collapsing is unstable (ie the root of a situation was going to be untenable in the long run and the longer it continues the worse the upheaval will be, it needs to end so good things can happen). Death works the same way, something isn't working and change needs to be allowed to happen so something good can come. None of these things are necessarily pleasant but they're probably going to happen whether you like it or not.
More specific card comparisons and interpretations are below
🔮For an in-depth analysis of how I interpret different visual seeds for the same cards, I'll show 3 pretty prominent examples and then go into how I view each card differently. The 3 cards we're going to be going over is Death, the 8 of Swords, and the Devil (as shown below. The Shadowscapes example pictures come from Stephanie Pui-Mun Law's official Shadowscapes site)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✨So when I look at Death in the Rider-Waite deck I typically see it as a big/fundamental change that's going to come to someone (usually it's a personal change that's going to come no matter how they try to stop it). I don't usually look at that the change Death brings as a pleasant/enjoyable process to go through, but I do usually view the results of that process positively. I also see it as more of an outside force making a change happen when I see Death from that deck. I see Death from the Shadowscapes deck as more of a sign of deep rejuvenating change with the Phoenix symbolism vs. the unrelenting change of horseman Death in Rider-Waite. I have another Death card in an oracle deck, but that Death card applies more to the ending of cycles, but if that card were to pop up in a reading with the tarot Death cards I would see it as more of a cycle-ending event that allows someone to move on over a event of change (though it could be both).
✨With the 8 of Swords I interpret the card as a sign of the querent/subject of the reading being being stuck, but the differences in the card's art indicate differences in how they're stuck. The Rider-Waite art shows the central figure as blindfolded and tied up while they're surrounded by sharp swords (the subject is stuck and can free themselves but they don't have the information/freedom of movement to free themselves safely and so they don't move) vs. the Shadowscapes art that shows the main figure of a swan wrapped in briars (again surrounded by swords) looking up at a flying hummingbird, with the swan struggling to fly but getting more stuck in that struggle. For the Shadowscapes card I see it as the subject of the reading needing to take a step back and understand how they're trapped so they can make plans for how they'll get themselves unstuck.
✨With the Devil card I interpret a lot of differences between my two decks (tbh though neither deck throw the Devil out often so I don't have much experience reading for it). With the Rider-Waite card I can read it as falling back into or developing bad habits/behavior patterns but feeling no control/powerless over the situation vs the Shadowscapes card, which shows someone with access to the key of the chains they're in with the devil flying over them with a heart, in my opinion could involve allowing oneself to fall into bad habits/behavior patterns and not getting yourself out (sort of like if you've known you're falling back into old negative habits/behavior patterns you know aren't good for you but allowing that to happen because those old behaviors are familiar or more comfortable/reassuring).

can i ask what your fav genre of games are (saw your post about night in the woods) ? i liked the ori series bc it was beautiful, but if you like unsettling things like i do, then pixel horror is a tasteful genre imo :D
and may i in return ask for game recs? i feel like the games ppl play/like to watch are so interesting !! its fun to see what ppl like despite what they seem (totally not talking about how youre a certified gojo hater and yet you write the best pieces for him, gojo lovers could NEVER)
omggg i'll play anything just like i'll read anything!!! i will say that the majority of the games i play are otome games, visual novels, and RPGS/ARPGS, but i also love love love horror games just as love horror as a literary genre. i love games like resident evil, bioshock, hellblade senua's sacrifice, silent hill, sally face, etc. i love pixel horror too!! i've only played the binding of isaac and omori but ori series is also on my list. also im not sure if wadanohara counts as pixel horror but i was OBSESSED with that game when i was younger. it 100% traumatized me but it changed me fr
i think in terms of games i definitely prefer games with a strong narrative focus/visual novels. i love games like life is strange and what remains of edith finch. i know a lot of ppl criticize plot driven games as books more than games but the utilization of gaming functions to drive a narrative forward is sooooo. it's such a unique and fun format and gives to an interesting perspective that can't be found in traditional books. obsessed.
i think nier automata is the one ARPG that actually fully hooked me in in both terms of gameplay and amazingggg plot. i 100% recommend the drakengard series but only if you can stomach yoko taro's extremely fucked up mind. along with all the aforementioned games, some other games i recommend are fe3h, wolf among us, dmc 5!!!
