Hmm, regarding the todobros, i have the hope that touya and the rest of the villain league can be given a redemption arc. Most of the league members, including shiggy, were shunned by society because of their quirks (regardless of its strength). Their feelings of belongingness have not been fulfilled from a young age and its only through villainy that they found a family, thats functional and caters to their beliefs. All For One did a great job in manipulating their young minds and even using Stain in his plans. More on Touya, i hope that his fight with Shouto will allow them to share their sentiments with one another and clear the air between them especially because there might be very less interaction between the 2 even in their younger years. I think Touya means no harm to any of his family members except for endeavor himself. If anything, their mutual love for their siblings can boost their reconciliation. I dont know if Rei can also help because i think in some way Touya might have also resented their mum since she might have had her whole attention to Shoto when he was born and thus harboured abandonment issues from her.

Hmm, what do you think about Rei’s role as their mother? And what does Touya think of her now?

u’re absolutely right anon - it makes me sad knowing that the villains and heroes r really similar in that they’re just people fighting for their beliefs at the end of the day (moral or not). there r bad people amongst the heroes and good people amongst the villains; and the blurred line is what makes bnha so appealing to me

“All For One did a great job in manipulating their young minds and even using Stain in his plans” --> fr i think i often forget that the villains are all pretty young n impressionable too (or at least, young when they fell into villainy), so not only is he gross n an all round garbage person, he’s also manipulative(!!!) and a bit of a mansplainer lol which makes him the worst

and same i see so many parallels between shouto and touya! and i’m hoping the rest of the todosiblings have a part to play in the war too, obviously not in a physical manner but... i’m hoping we get to see touya considering his beloved natsu-kun and fuyumi-chan who’ve done nothing wrong. u’re right, i do see why he could potentially resent rei, and i hope she pops up in later chapters too. feels kinda weird in that one hospital chapter where she barges in like “i’m here to fix things!!” and then we basically don’t see the aftermath of that... (or maybe we did and i just can’t recall).

i wonder if the complicated layers of trauma, betrayal, and hurt can be settled with a perfect ending. endeavour speaks of his dream often - that one day, his family will be eating joyfully around the dinner table - i wonder if his vision would come true and if he &/or touya would be there, too. it’s something i think about really often.

re: what touya thinks of rei, i’m kinda clinging to the perspective that he still loves her - what she did to protect and care for him in his earlier stages of life might outweigh her neglect once shouto was born. + the concept of filial piety is very strong in japanese culture, so to some extent touya still respects his mother, who has raised him and done her due diligence for most of his younger life.

this concept doesn’t apply to endeavour, though, for he’s never behaved like a father figure towards touya. 

...but that’s just what i think hehe i agree w everything u said and i hope ur projections come true as well... horikoshi better not rush the todofam plotline :-(

He loves that about you, he cannot imagine why would someone lie in the first place, and to find a s/o who just can't do it physically is the cherry on top.

Whenever making big decisions or on a mission, he always acknowledged your words and denied anyone who said otherwise.

But whenever you'd try to lie about something, it was clear to him. He'll get concerned, not about the fact that you were lying but about the fact that you felt like you cannot tell HIM something. He'll ask you once and if you didn't reply then he'd just smother you with toooons of love to the point that you felt bad about lying to someone as nice as him.

Shoto

After knowing his back story you always try to hide stuff so that you don't burden him with all your problems (PS: this is to all the readers, you'll never be a burden trying to share your problems, it's always better to share them and work on them than trying to suppress them, my inbox is open if you want to talk, K byee)

So this one time you were really struggling with school work and were really tensed and he asked you to hang out that afternoon but you have had a lot of all-nighters recently and planned on sleeping that afternoon to make sure that you keep up with everyone in physical training too.

So when he arrived you really wanted to rest but he was talking about some serious stuff about his mum. You were trying your best to stay up and listen to him. Which he obviously picked on and asked what was wrong?

You sprung up from the bed and denied the fact that you WERE looking awfully tired. After a couple of counter questions from him, you admitted that you were tired and didn't want him to feel bad about it or anything so you just lied.

He was so much polite and gentle with you about it! Well, that's what you loved the most about him he was so gentle with you and everyone around. So you two decided to nap together that afternoon and given the fact that you were wrapped up in his arms, it was one of the best naps you've ever had.

Krishima

He spends alot of time in training and you loved it! How hard he works and all but then you kinda felt bad too when he'd leave you to train, again.

You two haven't been able to see each other recently and it started bothering you to the point that once you'd actually hangout, it always felt like you know nothing about him.

At first you tried to keep up with him but every time you'd meet he was even more alien to you than ever before and it was obvious because once you start training as a hero not only do you grow physically but your mental state starts changing too and that too rapidly.

So it came to a point that it was way to awkward to hangout with him anymore and you started avoiding it and tried making excuses which was very clear to him.

So one day he confronted you and asked you what was up. At first you hesitated but then you realized that he's KIRISHIMA of course he'll understand you so you gave in and told him everything.

After that day you both made it a fact to check on each other daily so that you both are aware about what the other one is up to.

and while it might have been innocent enough on your part

he can’t help but be... flustered as your hand moves awfully close to the waistband of his pants 

feeling his cheeks heat up, straight up refusing to let you see how much your touch affects him, he swats your hand away with a grunt

“that tickles, dumbass,” he huffs, his voice slightly strained. you pretend not to notice. 

your eyebrows lift upward in surprise at his statement. not once had he ever mentioned he was ticklish. propping yourself up on your elbow, you let your eyes trail over his features, studying him. 

his eyes are closed but only after mere seconds of feeling your gaze, they open back up. his crimson orbs stare into yours, neither one of you breaking the prolonged silence. you, frankly, didn’t want to. bakugou, on the other hand, refused to - fully aware his voice would betray him again. 

he couldn’t believe he had just lied about being ticklish. but, letting you believe your soft touches had tickled him rather than admitting they made him feel things he know he shouldn’t seemed like the most logical option. yes. there was no way he’d reveal his less than innocent thoughts. 

“what?” he grumbles, quirking a brow questioningly. “take a picture. it’ll last longer.” 

you fish your phone out of your pocket, holding it up above him. “okay—” 

your words turn into a squeal as he smacks the phone out of your hand and grabs your arm, pinning it above your head. he hovers above you, eyes full of mischievousness, his teeth exposed by the grin dancing on his lips. you stare back up at him, eyes wide, body tense as you attempt to gauge his next movements.

“how ‘bout a taste of your own medicine, huh? since you seem to find it so funny.” 

and before you can protest, his fingertips dig into your sides, eliciting careless giggles from you as he tries his best to find your most ticklish spots.

this boy will find any excuse to tickle you; pinching your sides, blowing raspberries on your stomach while lying in your lap - you name it 

one of his favorite ways is to use just a teeny tiny bit of his electricity, making the ticklish that much more unbearable 

we all know his love language is physical touch, so he just can’t help himself really

but don’t even think about tickling him. boy will practically screm bloody murder and literally run away from you like a child running away from their parent when it’s time for bed 

you’re bored. so bored, in fact, that you’re even thinking about purposefully provoking your boyfriend’s explosive friend just for some entertainment. you quickly scrap the idea, not feeling like being the target of his harsh words today. 

your boredom quickly dissipates, however, as the yellow locks of your boyfriend come into view. he’s chatting animatedly with kirishima and sero, his back facing you. you put a finger to your lips as a pair of red eyes look at you curiously. luckily, the redhead understands and says nothing as you sneak up to the table they’re currently seated at. 

“hey, babe!” you greet loudly, your voice dripping with fake innocence. 

before he can turn around, your hands are at his sides, pinching and poking with all their might. an odd sound - something between a gasp and a grunt - escapes your boyfriend at the feeling and he flails his arms, desperately trying to escape your hold. 

you underestimated just how ticklish your electric partner is, it seems. because before you can dodge it and sero can warn you, denki pushes his chair backward, knocking you over in the process. your boyfriend whips around immediately at the sound of your body colliding with the floor. 

“oh my god, baby, i’m so sorry. i didn’t mean—” his apology trails off at the sound of your loud laughter. 

you’re clutching your stomach with one hand, attempting (but to no avail) to silence your laughter with the other. denki rubs the back of his neck, eyes full of confusion, while he tries to regain his breath from your surprise attack. once again, he catches you off-guard as he crouches down next to you, his fingers finding your tickle spot with ease. 

your laughter gets louder and he smirks. “not so funny now, is it?”

normally, this wouldn’t be a problem. you had no issue being his pillow once in awhile and his cute, little snores made it impossible for you to wake him. today, however, he had fallen asleep in the crook of your neck and his soft breaths were tickling you. with every exhale, your body tensed as you tried your best to remain still.

“kiri,” you whisper, his nickname slipping past your lips with gentleness. “babe, wake up.” 

he stirs at the sound of your voice, his breathing halting momentarily. you wait in suspense but he only buries his face further into your neck, a long breath fanning against your exposed skin. you squirm instinctively. your movements must have alerted something in him because he begins shuffling shortly after. 

you can’t see his face but you can tell by his breathing that he’s slowly but surely waking up. you practically hold your breath, praying that he will move before you have to voice your discomfort. unfortunately, luck isn’t on your side it seems. 

“kiri, i love you, but please move,” you plead, pushing against his chest softly. his red eyes are filled with confusion as he props himself up to look at you. “you’ve been tickling my neck for the past fifteen minutes. i was going insane.” 

he pouts then. “aw, babe, you should’ve told me. you could’ve woken me up, y’know?” 

“yeah, i know,” you sigh, rubbing your neck where his breathing had been just a few seconds prior. “i just didn’t want to wake you, is all. you’re so cute when you sleep.” 

“you’re cuter,” he quips enthusiastically, poking your nose with his index finger. “okay, your turn to cuddle me instead. i’m not ticklish so lay wherever you want.”

his arm is grasped between your two hands as you gently trace the scattered freckles and scars adorning his skin. he had been so flustered when you had grabbed it, unable to will the redness away from his cheeks. you had only giggled in response. 

izuku didn’t know why you seemed to be so fascinated by his scars. you had always asked questions about them, wondering if he remembered where he got them. always made sure to call him handsome on days where he was particularly bothered by the markings on his body. 

he loved it. he loved you. 

but as your continue to trace them, your touch featherlight, he can’t help the shiver that runs down his spine. he squirms, his hand clenching together and forming a fist. you take notice and halt your actions immediately. he turns to look at you, meeting your wide eyes. 

“did i do something wrong?” you ask quietly, feeling the guilt claw its way to your chest. 

“no!” he practically shouts, his voice a few octaves higher than normal. he clears his throat. “n-no, you didn’t. it’s just that... heh. i’m, uh, kind of sensitive in certain spots, i guess? and while i really don’t mind you touching my scars, you were so gentle and i-i just... it tickled.”

his chin tilts toward the floor, his bashful gaze flickering away from yours. you notice the pink dusting across his freckled cheeks but decide not to point it out, desperate to make your boyfriend feel at ease again. 

“zuku, say that next time! i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to tickle you. i didn’t even know you were ticklish, to be honest.”

he rubs his neck, peering over at you once again. he grins sheepishly. “i-i never told you, i guess. usually, i’m able to resist the urge to squirm, um, like that.”

“you’re so cute!” you gush, grabbing ahold of his hand once again. “i’m ticklish too, y’know. but i’ll let you find my tickle spots on your own.”

and, for the umpteenth time that night, your boyfriend blushes as he thinks about exploring your body to find your very own tickle spots. 

T O D O R O K I

let’s say you’re both cuddling in your bed right?? and things are getting a little heated 

so,,, you detach your lips from his, placing a kiss on his cheek, then his jaw, then his neck

and let me tell you - this poor boy doesn’t know what to do 

he tenses up immediately, slamming his chin down to protect his exposed neck, his jaw banging against your nose in the process 

“y/n!” he calls out immediately, chest heaving, his body still tense as if on high alert. he reaches out to you when he spots you holding your nose, your brows furrowed in discomfort. “i’m so sorry. i don’t— are you alright?” 

you nod, releasing a hum to confirm your response. your nose is throbbing, but when you open your eyes and meet shoto’s wide bicolored ones, your pain subsides quickly. poor boy looks so helpless - torn between reaching out for you and distancing himself. 

“hey, sho, it’s okay. i’m alright,” you remove your hand clutching your nose to shoot him a smile but you stop midway, noticing the crimson liquid on your palm. 

“you’re bleeding,” your boyfriend observes quietly, the guilt obvious in his voice. “i hurt you. i’m so sorry. i... what you did made me feel weird and my body just reacted. i, uh, i’m sorry.” 

he scrambles out of your bed, reaching for the box of tissues he knows you have stashed in your desk. he hands you a handful of them, awkwardly lingering by the foot of the bed as you wrap the paper over your nose, clamping your fingers shut around it.

you shake your head with a gentle laugh. “sho, it’s okay. i didn’t know you were ticklish there. i can’t really control what my body does when i’m tickled either, so i don’t blame you.” 

“ticklish?” he repeats aloud, almost as if testing out the word. 

you nod, the innocence of your boyfriend once again surprising you. you feel your heart ache slightly at the thought of him not knowing what the action is. had nobody ever touched him enough for him to find his tickle spots? 

“yeah. most people are ticklish somewhere on their body. usually either on their waist, their armpits, feet or neck - like you. it’s normal. typically, when people are touched where they’re ticklish, they’ll squirm and laugh.” 

he nods and you remain quiet as he processes the information. then, much to your bewilderment, he leans forward and grabs ahold of your side with his fingertips. he pinches gently and you jerk, narrowing your eyes at your boyfriend smiling harmlessly. 

“so, is that your tickle spot, then?”

Dabi’s Missing Heart

So I’ve been seeing two main responses to Dabi’s character as portrayed in BNHA 292, both of which I feel touch on a very surface understanding of his character and role in the story despite seeming like opposite takes.  

Take #1: 

Dabi is an unfeeling monster created to show the redeemability of Shigaraki and Enji in contrast with his true eeeevil villainy! He will never be redeemed! 

Take #2: 

Dabi is a sweet softy who did nothing wrong! He will never be redeemed because of this chapter which is so out-of-character! 

Note how they both have the same endpoint. I’m not actually gonna address the redemption question much because I can’t fathom what this panel foreshadows if not Touya’s salvation (alive): 

I’m not looking to debate this either; I’m just putting it here because I know it’ll come up if I don’t.

Instead, I wanna address Dabi’s character. He’s my favorite, and I’ve been asked a few different times whether I enjoy him as a villain or as an uwu poor baby, and my answer is always both. 

Dabi is a villain. This chapter’s rampage is, in my opinion, not remotely out of character for him. But neither is it the summation of his character, and he surely is not meant to make Enji look good by comparison. 

So, who is Dabi? 

Dabi is kind of a flaming jerk, and that’s why I like him. He’s an abuse victim who gets to be angry and crass and sharp. He pushes people away because he doesn’t want to open up to them and get burned (heh). He’s just like Shouto in that, except with a dose of murder. 

Believe it or not, this is a very realistic response to abuse, and very common too. It’s good to see that representation. If the writing was indeed just “he’s bad get rid of him,” well, that would of course be a terrible representation. But seeing a mean victim get redeemed? Now that’s some good sh*t I’m here for. 

If you want a sweethearted, misunderstood soft victim, there is one in MHA, and that’s Shigaraki. Dabi is not these things, but that does not mean he’s not a victim or that he’s somehow an unfeeling monster.

You see, Shigaraki is a heart character. Dabi’s the mind. (Heart and mind characters are a literary pattern that is utilized in literature across the globe; it’s not an eastern/western cultural thing. It has its roots in alchemy.) The problem is that you can’t have a heart without a mind nor a mind without a heart. If you lack one, you’re missing half the picture, and you won’t accomplish anything. 

We see this with Shigaraki in his quest to look for ideals, something to believe in, purpose to justify/enable acting on his feelings/emotions. 

Dabi, in contrast, has conviction and ideals, but eschews any kind of personal connection and care. 

So, both Shigaraki and Dabi struggle to unite heart and mind--but they need to do precisely this. 

It’s not a coincidence that Shigaraki expressly envisions both Dabi and Himiko when musing on what his purpose is. 

Yet Shigaraki is able to unite more easily with Himiko as opposed to Dabi because Himiko is also a heart character. She claims to be motivated by extreme empathy that warps around to become a lack thereof (wanting to be who she loves).

Shigaraki’s motivations are basically revenge for hero society not saving him--which encompasses both a deep internal and external (societal) need for empathy and a need for better ideals. Shigaraki needs Himiko and Dabi. They’re a trio, and all of them need each other to grow. But Himiko, being similarly driven expressly by emotions, is easier for Shigaraki to understand and work with. 

The irony is that Dabi is actually a very, very emotional character as well. But what he does (as is typical for a mind character) is repress them, compartmentalize, dissociate. He constantly pushes people away, yet admits privately, to himself, that he’s primarily (and paradoxically) motivated by family. This is emotional, yet Dabi claims he “overthought” and, according to other translations, “snapped” can be actually be read as “went crazy” as a result over overthinking (note: both are mind allusions). 

Dabi repressing who he is--Todoroki Touya--is symbolic of him repressing his emotional side, because again, family and emotions are tied together for his character. Now his identity is acknowledged, and Dabi claims to be losing his mind (again), claims that he can’t feel, and yet is completely consumed by emotions. Like, does anyone think he’s being methodical and calculating this chapter? 

It’s not just negative emotions (rage, hate) that drive Dabi in response to his family. His seeking belonging and emotional connection is present even in a chapter where he tries to murder two members of his family and laughs off the risk to the life of another. 

See, Dabi first asked Shouto to validate his pain:

But like, given the circumstances, of course Shouto doesn’t really respond well. How Shouto responds is this: 

Shouto’s words are triggering. And keep in mind I am not blaming Shouto: he’s in shock and he’s a kid. I’m merely trying to explain how it likely comes across to Dabi. 

You’re crazy. Your feelings don’t matter. You don’t really care about Natsuo! You’re a villain and that’s ALL you are. Not a brother or abuse survivor. Just a villain. 

So, uh, yeah, Dabi then retreats back to being unable to feel, dissociating as has always been his coping mechanism. But that’s not all: Dabi’s been repressing for so long that of course he’s gonna go a little insane in response to the dismissal of everything he’s trying to point out. Why wouldn’t he? His family dismissed his pain back then and now again, and so, without that heart, without those emotions, principle is all Dabi has. This has been present since long before Stain’s ideology came into his life: 

Now, he answers this question of existence through Stain’s ideology.  Purpose is all he has, and to him, Shouto and Best Jeanist are dismissing that too. Why are they dismissing it? Best Jeanist dismisses him for an ideal: the overall good of hero society. Shouto has a mixture of this ideal and also like, genuine shock and pain. 

Back to Dabi. Dabi’s summation of himself and his purpose is incorrect and harmful to himself and others. I’m not excusing him or justifying, just explaining. It’s a tragic reflection of what Endeavor raised both Touya and Shouto to be (and thereby ironic that BJ uses an ideal to dismiss him): 

Instead of being raised to be the symbol of hero society--as Endeavor intended--he exists to destroy it. The root is the same: Dabi assumes he exists for hero society, as a tool. He dehumanizes himself, hence why his quirk physically harms him (which also fits his almost religious zeal for Stain’s ideology). But it is not all Dabi is. He’s not a tool, he’s a person, but to acknowledge he’s a person involves acknowledging his heart/emotional desires, and that gets to my next point.

Dabi’s not a reliable narrator about himself. At all. I’ve written about Dabi and dissociation before. So let’s look at Dabi’s devotion to his ideals, the ideals he puts above people and claims he only cares about... because there are moments where Dabi goes against those ideals. 

For one example, Dabi’s gone against those ideals when he’s allowed his personal need for revenge (an emotional/heart motivation) to overcome his longterm plan. Like, he was fully about to get himself killed here, even though that would likely mean no one would know the corruption of the Todoroki family and hero society, just for the chance to prove to his father that he hurt him. 

In addition, I’ve talked before about how Dabi’s the only character in the entire damn manga to comment that maybe using child soldiers is not okay. While it’s not explicitly stated, it’s reasonable to conclude that Dabi considers the abuse of children in hero training a sin of hero society that ought to be purged (hence, part of his ideals). 

That said, I have also pointed out that Dabi has gone after children in the past when it benefits his mission (Bakugou would like a word). So let’s look at four examples of Dabi and his principles concerning kids--since, after all, he claims to be motivated by heroes who hurt kids. 

Firstly, Dabi’s “save the cat” when he spared Aoyama. 

Why did he spare Aoyama? We can only speculate, but it seems quite likely there are two reasons: 1) hurting Aoyama would not add anything to his overall goal of downing hero society, and 2) a terrified, cowering kid might just have been a teeny bit familiar to Dabi. Here, his ideals--destroying hero society--either take a backseat to a reflection of his personal pain (and)/or his ideal of not abusing kids directly contradicted his ideal of bringing down hero society. But the important part is that in this instance, Dabi chose mercy and the goal of bringing down hero society was jeopardized as a result. 

So then why did he attack Tokoyami, Nejire, and Shouto this arc? Well, Dabi does things he knows are wrong for the sake of accomplishing his overall purpose. He does things he knows hurt himself for this purpose. This isn’t new. If he can’t be acknowledged, can’t exist as a person with emotions, then he at least will ensure he still has a purpose.  

In addition, let’s look at what sets Dabi off in all of these instances. (Again, this isn’t me saying “well actually Dabi’s justified.” He’s not. I’m just pointing to what’s in the text to explain the machinations beyond “bad guy do bad.”)

Dabi tries to reason with Tokoyami, pointing out that Twice was doing essentially what Tokoyami is doing: trying to save his friend(s), but Tokoyami doesn’t listen (also again: not me saying Tokoyami should have listened--realistically, in this situation, it makes sense Tokoyami trusted his mentor!)

Only after his reasoning was rejected did Dabi go to flames mode. He could have just let Tokoyami save Hawks, but instead he really wanted to kill Hawks and that overrode his other principles. Was this just because of his furthering his goal--killing the #2 hero would help destroy hero society--or because of a sense of personal revenge for Twice? That’s open for interpretation (in my opinion, it’s likely a mixture, because again, it tends to intertwine more than Dabi likes to think it does). His principles and/or emotions are brushed aside, and Dabi Does Not Like That. 

Dabi does this again with Shouto this chapter, asking him where he stands on their family issues, and gets brushed aside, and then Shouto goes into his rage mode and Dabi responds. Again, not saying Shouto is rational here or that he should side with Dabi’s murderous plan, but like, his words really don’t come across well to Dabi. 

Dabi going after Shouto after explaining things, asking Shouto for help, and then having his pain dismissed is pretty much a repeat of Tokoyami. When Dabi’s pain is dismissed, he says fine, let’s aim for the highest principle possible: making Stain’s will a reality, and damn any emotional ties. 

Dabi’s obsession with ideals, you might say, is a smokescreen to cover his own pain. Far from feeling nothing, he feels very deeply. (I promise I’m getting to Nejire.) 

So what does this indicate? Well, that Dabi does have a heart and a conscience. But when he lets his heart act, when his heart reaches out, he gets burned. His heart jeopardizes his overall purpose, so he most often dissociates himself from it. But by pretending he doesn’t have a heart, he dehumanizes himself, and he projects that dehumanization onto others (see: seeing Shouto as an extension of Endeavor, when that’s actually the precise image Shouto is trying to shed). 

It’s not a coincidence that Shigaraki has been unconscious during the entire confrontation with Endeavor, nor is it a coincidence that Himiko has been MIA. But, Shigaraki wakes up a bit this chapter not only when hearing Dabi spout about how hero society needs to burn, an ideal/the thing Shigaraki lacks, and through a less important but still-ideal-driven character in Spinner asking him to accomplish his supposed ideal of destruction, but when Dabi saves Shigaraki and Spinner. 

Dabi doesn’t burn Nejire for lols (not that this makes it better because it doesn’t) or even for ideals. He burns her to save Shigaraki and Spinner, because they are his links to full humanity right now. 

(Again, this is also dissociation and projection: Endeavor did this! No, Dabi, you did. You’re perpetuating violence against kids rather than stopping it.)

But anyways, when Dabi calls upon heart, Shigaraki wakes. He lends Gigantomachia and thereby Dabi and the league power. 

Dabi can only grow and actually accomplish anything related to his ideals (fixing hero society) through accepting a heart--even though that will likely mean some painful surgery to shift his ideals to accommodate said heart, because pure ideals don’t leave much room for humanity. He needs to feel to actually change anything, because right now he’s just making things worse (hence, the need for saving and redemption).

I know the League aren’t the protagonists of the serIes, but their complaints aren’t exactly incorrect either (if anything they’re almost a little too valid). But through growing together, Dabi, Shigaraki, and Himiko might actually be able to accomplish something, and get themselves in a place where they can be reached and saved by Shouto, Deku, and Ochaco. Because to be saved, the kids will have to acknowledge the villains’ pain and complaints, and do something about it.

I’ll try to keep things concise, but it’ll still be pretty long. I will do this in the form of a Read More after the first few fics. There are over 90, I’ll try to go alphabetically. 

All of them are from the same fandom, BnHA, so that’s nice. More gen fics, less romance. Most of them are for series, events, other people’s aus - and I’ll make sure to share all of that when I share each fic, especially because some of the events are probably repeats and this is a little bit like free marketing [only tagging them once because that would get obnoxious, especially for the weekly event things I did]. Ahhhh yes!!!! Sorry it took so long to get to but holy fuck was this fun to write, though I may have gone a little overboard considering the other ones have all been under 1k words so... oops.

"Oi, dunceface, I'm not an idiot, you know - I fuckin' notice when you're just starin' at my lips and not actually paying attention and if you're not gonna take this seriously, I -"

"Sorry!" Denki interrupted in a squeak, a red flush spreading across his face. "I - uh - Fuck, sorry," he repeated when Katsuki set him with a murderous glare.

That glare softened and shifted to something not quite as furious after a moment, more contemplative than anything. A few long seconds passed before Katsuki sighed heavily and rolled his eyes. "You didn't take your Adderall today, did you?"

"Heh - it's that obvious?" Denki asked sheepishly, grimacing as he looked down to stare at the corner of his textbook.

"Well you sure as shit ain't paying attention to the stuff you're supposed to be," Katsuki scoffed, reaching over Denki to slam the book closed. "We'll study tomorrow when you can actually fucking focus."

"Sorry, man, I was trying - really," Denki rushed to say, but only got a disbelieving look in reply as Katsuki grabbed the pen and notebook that belonged to him and stuffed them in his bag. "No, seriously, dude. It's just hard to when my brain won't slow down and let me process shit and then I guess I just kinda... check out? 'Cause I know I won't understand it anyways and then when you were leaning over you got really close and I noticed that you actually have really nice lips which... sounds really creepy now that I've said it out loud. Fuck. I didn't - uh - mean it like that. 'S not like I want to kiss you or anything. Er, well, not that I wouldn't or don't want to but I uh -" Denki swallowed hard as he realized just how deep of a hole he had talked himself into, face burning red as he buried his face in his hands, "I'm shutting up now."

Katsuki huffed wordlessly and Denki heard him zipping up his bag. The lack of response quickly ate away at Denki's nerves and he was lifting his head to start speaking again when Katsuki cut him off.

"So? Which one is it?"

Denki tilted his head at his friend, "What...?"

Red eyes pinned Denki to the spot with the sort of intense shine to them that was usually reserved for extreme challenges; the same faux-confident look Katsuki wore before taking on something he wasn't actually sure he'd succeed at.

Katsuki took in a deep breath, rolling his eyes and glancing away as he let that breath out in an annoyed huff. "You keep givin' mixed fucking signals, dumbass. So I'm asking, do wanna fucking kiss me or not?"

Denki felt his jaw drop open at the sudden blunt question, eyes going wide as his ever-racing thoughts screeched to a halt and all he could think about suddenly was how adorable Katsuki looked in the moment. Anyone else would think he looked pissed, but Denki knew Katsuki well enough to know that the particular scowl on his face was one of uncertainty and not anger. Not to mention the red flush across his cheeks and how he was glaring directly at a spot on the table, refusing to look at Denki.

He was nervous and that was just,

"So cute."

The words tumbled out of Denki's mouth in an awed whisper and he didn't even realize he had said them out loud until those red eyes flicked towards him, going wide for a moment before narrowing back into a seemingly angry glare.

"That's not an answer, you idiot!" Katsuki shouted, that red flush on his cheeks spreading over the rest of his features all the way down his neck and up to his ears. "And I ain't askin' again, so -"

"Yes!" Denki blurted out as his mind caught up to the situation all at once - along with the added urgency that this may be his only chance.

There was a split-second hesitation that seemed to last for hours, freezing Denki to the spot before a hand was grabbing the front of his shirt and yanking him forward.

Flailing for balance, Denki barely managed to grab onto Katsuki as their lips collided with bruising force and ow, that actually hurt.

A small whimper came from Denki at the rough treatment, followed closely by a muffled shout of surprise when he felt Katsuki's tongue soothe over the sore spot on his lip. Katsuki took that as an invitation to slip his tongue into Denki's mouth, momentarily sliding over Denki's before pulling away completely.

"Fuck," Denki mumbled in a shaky exhale, still gripping onto Katsuki's biceps and staring dazedly at the spit-slick lips he'd just been kissing. "That was... wow. Um," he cleared his throat, head still spinning, "Didn't - uh - didn't expect my first kiss to be like that. Guess I should've since it's - it was y'know, with you and -"

"Wait," Katsuki interrupted roughly, "You've seriously never kissed anyone before? The fuck?"

Denki felt his face go hot, undoubtedly a bright shade of red, and he couldn't help but drop his forehead against Katsuki's shoulder to hide. "Y-yeah," he mumbled, face burning even hotter when he heard Katsuki laugh. "Shut up!" he whined.

"Nah, don't think I'm gonna," Katsuki teased, though Denki couldn't help but relax a little when he felt a pair of warm hands land on the curve of his waist and pull him closer. "Wish I woulda known, though, wouldn't have done it like that if I knew it was gonna be your first kiss," he snorted.

At first, Denki couldn't help but grumble in protest at the continued teasing before an absolutely genius idea lit up his brain. "Well, uh, what - what would've you done if - if you knew?" he asked, tilting his head to look shyly up at Katsuki even as a small, mischievous smile tugged at his lips. "You could... show me, if you want," he suggested, idly tracing patterns against one of Katsuki's arms.

A soft, albeit amused scoff came from Katsuki as he rolled his eyes. "Well I woulda taken you out first," he said before pausing a moment, glancing off to the side again, "If you - uh - if you'd want that."

There was no way Denki could stop the grin that spread across his face at the implication that Katsuki actually wanted to date him. "Yes!" he gasped excitedly. "I mean - um - yeah. Yeah, I'd... I think I'd like that," he added with a sheepish chuckle when he realized how desperate he must've sounded.

The warm, soft laugh that came from Katsuki flooded Denki's stomach with butterflies, chest swelling with pride at managing to get such a genuine laugh from the other. "Yeah. Well. I'd do that."

"And then?" Denki prodded.

"What'd'ya think, dunceface?" Katsuki snorted, "I'd walk ya to your door 'nd kiss you there. Y'know. All proper and shit."

"Hmm," Denki hummed thoughtfully, tilting his head so he could look at Katsuki better, "Okay, but that still doesn't tell me how you'd kiss me. Just... when and where. And I dunno about you, but I really think a demonstration would be the best way to explain it."

"Of course you do," Katsuki scoffed, but Denki didn't miss the way Katsuki's cheeks flushed a little.

"Well?" Denki asked, lifting his head from Katsuki's shoulder, "Are you gonna or not?"

He got another eyeroll in response, before those red eyes focused on him again all sharp and intense in a way that never failed to make it hard for Denki to breathe. He felt one of Katsuki's hands trail up his side and over his shoulder before the backs of Katsuki's knuckles were lightly brushing over his cheek.

As if Denki wasn't already struggling to breathe, the way those gorgeous red eyes softened their gaze and dropped to stare at his lips made him completely forget how to breathe at all. He found himself leaning in, guided by the hand now cupping his cheek, until he was close enough for their noses to brush.

"Can I kiss you?" Katsuki asked, all soft with only a hint of his usual gruffness.

If it weren't for how hard Denki's heart was pounding, he would've worried that it may have already melted into nothing more than a pile of goo. The same couldn't be said for his brain, though, which Denki was almost certain had long since turned to soup.

Which made it rather difficult for Denki to formulate any coherent words, let alone verbalize them so, instead, he nodded his consent.

A small smile graced Katsuki's lips for a mere second before he was tilting his head and pressing their lips together with a gentleness that Denki didn't think Katsuki was even capable of.

"Wow," Denki breathed shakily when Katsuki pulled away, feeling even more dazed than after the first kiss. "I didn't know you could be so romantic," he mumbled, barely even realizing he had said that out loud.

"Hah?!" Katsuki huffed offendedly, "The fuck is that supposed to mean? Didn't think I'd be a good boyfriend or somethin'?"

"What?" Denki gasped, eyes going wide at Katsuki. "No, I - w-wait. Wait, did - does - are we - boyfriends?" he stammered when he fully realized what Katsuki said.

"You agreed to go on a date with me, dumbass, so yeah," Katsuki scoffed even as he shoved Denki away - much more gently than normal, Denki noticed. "Meet me in front of the dorms Friday night at 6 'nd I'll take you to the carnival or something," Katsuki said, walking to the door. "And don't be late!" he added roughly as he left, slamming the door shut behind him.

Still trying to get his brain to catch up with everything that just happened, Denki found himself staring blankly at the door for several long moments before it finally, fully sunk in.

He had a boyfriend.

And that boyfriend was Katsuki.

"Holy shit," Denki whispered to himself, a grin slowly spreading across his face as giddy excitement bubbled up inside of him and spilled over in the form of incredulous laughter.

For the rest of the day, Denki couldn't stop smiling even when it started to hurt and he's never looked forward to a Friday more in his life.

okay per @stillness-in-green's question. and something really important that i'm sure ALL of my lovely fans, yes you i am talking about you and blowing you so many kisses, are dying to know. my Top 5 Gay Little Henchmen.

house cleaning first i'm excluding spinner and spinaraki from this list just because i've given spinner a lot of attention the past few weeks and have already extolled his virtues as a gay little henchman and how i think he really embodies this trope and he's so special to me i wanna cry about him like every day oh my god. oh my god. but that would be unfair considering the intensity of my current feelings (that have been consistent the last three years eyyy) anyways here's the rest of the list.

5. okay i will be honest this guy does not really count except fully on a technicality and bc of how much i love him. but enrico poggi from the stravaganza series now this is very much like, a junior high/middle school kind of series. but enrico is such a great dynamic character who spends like the first half of the series being a big opportunistic skeezy lackey tormented by the mysterious disappearance of his lackey and then the latter half of the series being like okay yeah i can work for the protagonist. and by the end has wholeheartedly devoted himself to the main character. and like he's significantly less homoerotic than a little henchman should be but he's a spy assassin who's squeamish and is good with kids and great with horses and will eat everyone's food and he's a good lil henchman with a full character arc and i love him on want him on my list. he could gay up a lil if i tried.

4. i said i wouldn't include spinner BUT DIDN'T SAY SHIT ABOUT ANY OTHER BNHA CHARACTER NYEH HEH HEH. it's really hard choosing between like redestro (to shigaraki) and trumpet (to redestro) and nemoto (to overhaul) but ultimately i have to give the bnha crown to ujiko for his devotions to AFO, primarily for plot impact and relationship longevity, but also because ujiko is sooooooo cute about AFO it makes me weep a little bit. for real.

3. isaac from castlevania 2017 eeeeyyyyyyyy now i never actually finished castlevania. because i got really lazy. but isaac was an immediate favourite and i know the scope of his character arc after the fact after losing dracula and it's so charming so charming. i've heard the "all so fucking rude" line it's BRILLIANT and also the idea of a henchman having to figure himself out after losing his boss..........groundbreaking. i need to finish the series one day or get the isaac supercut. only thing is that he should be shorter. but i persist.

2. soundwave babyyyyyyyy. specifically g1 and prime continuities, and to my understanding parts of the comics (idw series specifically - never got in depth with it but i know soundwave had Great Loyalty in it). from what i understand earthspark has fantastic divorced megatron/soundwave energy to it as well, though i am still heavily debating with myself how much i should watch it for myself. now soundwave doesn't get as much love as he SHOULD but his unwavering devotion to megatron and the decepticon cause.........the way that can so easily be shattered.........when the series lets soundwave be extra competent in an especially sexy way....... magic. also could be smaller but in g1 he turns into a tape deck, prime a skinny lil stealth jet, it works

before i reveal my number one i wanna give some quick special shout outs. harry/uma is not gay even though they both carry some energy. i've never actually watched disney's the descendants in their entirety but i did watch all the harry/uma scenes and it's good. it's a good ship. ummmm commander peepers, i never actually watched wander over yonder but i saw this guy around a bunch and immediately loved him from the start he's so tiny and such a go getter :) uhhh okay meowth doesn't count unless you read into his "fantasies about giovanni" era which is whatever but he is the blueprint for my love for henchmen overall and also just tiny fellows who range from antagonistic to just annoying. and gay lil henchmen are a subset of that.

and a different shout out to izzy hands from our flag means death. i am aware about the discourse surrounding the character i have read a lot of different meta from different perspectives and i got some context for various arguments. and i have decided that izzy hands is a great example of a gay little henchman even if stede is really hard for me to get past when trying to watch the show. i wanna know him so bad but it's difficult when i have to glaze past the main character.

gus grav from bakugan: new vestroia real kota fans KNOW THIS ABOUT ME this is the guy that really cracked me for the gay evil little henchman. is he from a good series. no. are he and spectra well-written characters. no. but he has such luscious hair and put his coat over spectra like a blanket and he tried to show spectra the joy of juiceboxes and he went on the run with him and he tried to fight a guy who insulted spectra despite being told not to and DIED for it but didn't actually die he just showed up again and previously spectra had a sad moment about gus not being around and when gus shows up again spectra is like "wow about time" or whatever. listen i had a lot of feelings about gus being "killed off" and then just unceremoniously brought back and then in a latter series when he shows up with spectra as a good guy with a new outfit BUT I CAN'T SEE THE OUTFIT IN ITS ENTIRETY? also the episode where he tries to fight a guy for spectra and dies, he disguises himself by tying his hair back and wearing a lil waiters outfit and putting on glasses AND AGAIN, CAN'T SEE THE FIT IN FULL, WILDLY HOMOPHOBIC. gus was really one of those characters that clicked hard with me despite everything and ignited my mind like few others could. of course this was also during my naive teenage years so i was also shipping him with his boss' younger sister but i stand by that and still think it would be funny. but gus grav was the first time in my memory that i went "wow. homoerotic devotion to the point of obsession and self-destruction is kind of sexy." and for that he will always be so special and influential to me.

well, i don’t usually write for tsukishima!!!!!!!! but yay!!!! i hope this was okay heh!!! i hope you like this!!!! again, this was pure word vomit so i hope this made sense!!!!!

it’s the karasuno get together and sleepover at somebody’s house, and you’re nervous.

this would be the first time you would see tsukishima since college.

since college, you guys had drifted apart. a lot. it wasn’t that you didn’t try to keep in contact with him. you did, you tried, but for some reason, it didn’t seem to work. you weren’t even sure what happened. maybe college got to the both of you. because after a while, the calls that went from you to him went unanswered, the conversations between the both of you went dry, the messages sent between the both of you gradually became lesser, and eventually, the only things that were said between the both of you were occasional “how are you”s and “i’m fine”.

maybe it would be a bad time to mention it, but you’ve probably liked him since forever. it hurt you to realise that the both of you had drifted, but you also couldn’t do anything when you didn’t know what went wrong.

now, the thought of seeing him scared you. what if he really didn’t want to be friends with you or talk to you anymore? what if the both of you drifted because he simply didn’t want to be friends with you anymore?

“(Y/N)? you’re late. hi! come in, everyone’s here already,” you suddenly hear a voice, and you look up to see kiyoko smiling at you, her warm smile warming your chest, and you force a smile onto your face as you follow her into the house.

everyone greets you happily. yachi smiles at you from the side where she was talking to yamaguchi about her latest college classes, tanaka and nishinoya yell out your name and wave at you from the middle of the room, sugawara and ennoshita wave at you from the couch, asahi and daichi say their hello’s from the kitchen, and hinata and kageyama call your name when they notice that you’re here, and they tap the person sitting beside them awake as you approach them.

and once again, you almost stop breathing. it’s tsukishima. looking the same as the last time you’ve saw him, maybe a little more handsome, and the crush that you’ve tried to seal away deep in your mind comes roaring back to life once more.

“hey, (Y/N),” tsukishima blinks, and nods at you, patting the seat beside him to invite you to sit.

“he’s a little bit drunk,” nishinoya yells from beside tanaka, grinning at you, “we may have convinced him to start on the drinks earlier!”

you raise an eyebrow, and shoot a smile at tsukishima, who jerkily points the middle finger at nishinoya, who chortles and points one back.

you don’t notice kageyama and hinata watching you, and exchange a small smile.

“can you count to ten right now?” you say, and tsukishima snorts at you.

“of course i can,” tsukishima says proudly, “one, two, three, five, seven, eight, nine, eleven.”

you laugh, “you missed four, six and ten. and you counted to eleven.”

“pssh,” tsukishima waves a lazy hand, “you just don’t know your numbers.”

you laugh again, and you quieten, “i’ve missed you.”

maybe he didn’t hear you, you think, when you don’t hear a reply, because after all, you said that really softly.

then you hear it.

“i’ve missed you too.”

you have to suck in a breath to steady your breathing.

“well, we did drift quite a bit, didn’t we,” you exhale out a laugh, and turn to smile at tsukishima, who looks solemn. you aren’t sure if he’s suddenly sober or still kind of drunk.

“it’s my fault,” he says, and you shake your head quickly.

“it’s not, kei,” and you curse yourself at the slip up of his first name, because you aren’t sure if the both of you are still close enough to call him by that, “it isn’t your fault. college got to both of us—”

“no,” tsukishima says stubbornly, “it’s my fault.”

“tsukishima—”

“it’s my fault,” he insists again, “i was scared.”

“scared?” you ask confusedly.

“scared.” he confirms.

“of what?” you ask.

tsukishima looks at you, and looks down, “of you.”

“me?” you say, and you’re sure if someone was listening, they can hear the hurt in your voice.

“you’re really pretty, you know?” he says suddenly, and you blink, “what?”

“you’re really pretty. and cute, you’re always so nice, and i don’t get how you’re still so nice to the people that are obviously assholes,” tsukishima sighs, and your eyebrows raise, “but you’re still nice to everyone no matter what. you’re helpful, and you’re sweet, and you’re just, so nice.”

“tsukishima,” you say firmly, “you’re drunk.”

he ignores you.

“and you’re just so nice to everyone, and you’re just everything,” he pauses, “everything to me.”

you try to ignore the way your heart quickens at those words, because he’s obviously drunk and not thinking clearly.

“it’s my fault,” tsukishima continues, “i was scared. because you’re just so nice and i can’t stop thinking about you and i can’t stop thinking about your lips and i can’t stop thinking about your smile, and i just—i just didn’t know what to do because i’m sure that you would hate me if i told you and that’s why i didn’t talk to you because i was afraid that you would realise and you would hate me and—”

“tsukishima,” you say, patting him slightly, and you try to ignore the way your heart is clearly loudly hammering against your chest, “you’re drunk, we’ll talk about this tomorrow, yeah?”

“you won’t hate me?” he asks quietly, “i don’t want you to hate me—”

“i won’t hate you,” you promise, and you smile slightly when he lets out a relieved sigh, and sinks into the seat and closes his eyes.

“are you going to talk to him about this tomorrow?” you suddenly hear a voice beside your ear, and you startle and swear.

“sorry,” hinata smiles, “but are you?”

you sigh.

“you have to, you know,” hinata says, “there’s clearly--”

“i know,” you say, and hinata smiles knowingly at you and pats you on the back.

you bump into him the next morning in the kitchen, and he’s busy hunched over the coffee machine to make some coffee.

“good morning,” he says when you enter the kitchen, and you force a smile at him, “morning, tsukishima.”

you don’t notice the way his eyebrow knots slightly when he hears you call him by his family name and not his first name.

“i have a super bad hangover,” he says, and you laugh, “that’s what you get for drinking so much.”

“assuming you still like your coffee the way i remember it, do you want your usual?” he asks, nodding his head at the coffee machine, and you nod gratefully, “yeah, thank you.”

“why are you so quiet?” he asks suddenly, when you stir your coffee the thousandth time, and you laugh nervously.

“do you remember last night?” you begin, and tsukishima shakes his head.

now you don’t know what to do.

“i only remember tanaka and nishinoya getting lit, and kiyoko scolding tanaka, and the delicious food daichi and asahi made us,” he says with a small smile, and you smile as well.

you don’t know how to explain it to him, so you just take in a deep breath, “tsukishima?”

“yeah?”

“i like you too,” you say, and tsukishima chokes on his coffee.

“i’ve missed you,” you say, and then you reach forward to knock him on the head, “and you’re stupid to distance yourself from me because you think that i would hate you if i found out that you liked me.”

tsukishima blinks, and when realisation dawns on him, he groans slightly, “i said all those while i was drunk yesterday night, didn’t i.”

“you did,” you confirm, smiling slightly, and knock him on the head again, “you’re an idiot.”

“i am,” he says, before walking over to you and bending a little so he can meet your eye level, “but i guess i’m your idiot.”

you smile, and tsukishima shoots you a small smile back and leans forward to kiss you.

BNHA “cringe interest” headcanons:

Hehe we’re back onto the “cringe” headcanons again. I love these so so much so please don’t mind my headcanon dump. (also half of these are just me projecting so- )

- Mina loves Littlest Pet Shop. When she was younger she’d pretend she could talk to her stuffies like the one girl could talk to the actual animals. When she’s older she still does this when she’s overwhelmed or just feels like it!

- Bakugou and Izuku have a beanie baby collection! Their grandparents had them and passed them onto the two of them. They’d trade and play with them, and honestly when they’re older they’d most definitely trade half of their fortunes for one of those rare ones.

- I was telling you earlier how I enjoy watching “childish” shows because I enjoy the simplicity of them, so would Tokoyami and Shirakumo and Midnight. Tokoyami’s favorites would be Daniel Tiger and Tangled: The Series, Oboro’s would also be Tangled: The Series, and Micky Mouse (he was a Disney kid apparently), and then Midnight’s would be some random shows from channel 34.6 (heh, numbers vary ig) or something.

- Aoyama would use glitter pens. He’s also really like scratch and sniff stickers, probably because there’s so many different things you could stick them on! She’d also use scrunches and hydroflasks. They’d also have a bunch of flip-sequins.

- Kiri. Everything about him screams Disney kid. (don’t mind me slipping in some transmasc Kiri btw) He’d adore Mulan for being so strong and “manly”. He’d sit and wish that he was brave enough to make himself look more like a boy, but then his moms noticed and let him do what he wanted with his appearance :D. He went to Disney land when he was a kid, and he was so confused by all the English but no matter. He still considers it the best day of his life!

- Todoroki and Denki and Sero radiate fidget spinners energy. They probably thought they were stupid when they first came out, but they tried them once and refuse to ever leave without one.

- Ochaco and Tsu were Gacha kids. And they were good at it too. They spend hours on their OCs and hyperfixate on making their videos to the best quality they can. Anyone who tells them they’re “cringe” get a nice king flight or a frog thunge sling shot.

- Also, Uraraka wears flip sequins as well.

- Also since people seem to consider Danganronpa as “cringe” I’m going to make it where the Rooftop Squad loved it. And, to make it better, they each liked one of the games more than the other. Aizawa liked THH the most, Midnight liked UDG most, Oboro liked the second most, and Hizashi liked the last one most.

- Izuku, Tokoyami, Hagakure, Ojirou, Kouda, all like to RP.

- And then, ofc, I can’t leave out the best one:

4. Which comment has had the most impact on your writing?

I actually internalize a lot of my comments, and not always in the healthiest way for me! I literally had to take a six month break from the Hawks fic because people's expectations for him were too overwhelming for me. I was getting lost trying to tailor his characterization to their desires, and I was obsessed with making sure he wasn't too fanon-y!

And then finally I was like, wait. Fanfic literally IS fanon.

I think one of the comments that has most positively affected me though is the soulmate one I just talked about in my last answer. It makes me feel like I have license to do whatever the hell I want with Sho's character lmao.

10. Why do you continue writing fics?

I am a font of undying thirst.

BnHA Chapter 324: Is There a Force Field Around Him??

Previously on BnHA: Flashback!Rat Principal was all “please tell Midoriya that I spent a concerningly small amount of money upgrading U.A. into a wacky physics-defying funtime grid so as to make the final battle much more confusing for everyone.” Present Day!Mic (or Present!Mic, if you will) and Jeanist were all “if only somebody could deescalate this dangerously unhinged mob, we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas.” Ochako was all “LISTEN UP PEOPLE.” The mob was all, “god??” Ochako was all, “NO, IT’S ME, OCHAKO. I’M REALLY HIGH UP ON THIS BUILDING AND THE VISIBILITY IS LOW DUE TO THE RAIN, SO I CAN SEE HOW YOU MIGHT MAKE THAT MISTAKE. ANYWAYS, DEKU WAS OUT THERE RISKING HIS LIFE FOR YOU CLOWNS EVEN THOUGH HE’S JUST A KID, SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD ALL REMEMBER HOW TO BE DECENT HUMAN BEINGS, THANKS.” Let’s see if her Big Scolding Energy has any impact.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “so I have this speech planned out, and it’s really good, but it also only really needs about 6 to 8 pages, but I’m gonna see if I can stretch it out to 17 pages so I can kill time before we get to the next volume cliffhanger two weeks from now.” Anyway but it really is a good speech though. There are feels, and tears, and more talk about how Deku is so in need of a shower that just looking at him requires a tetanus booster, and more feels, and more tears, and bonus ship drama, and an iconic callback to the very first chapter which reframes the entire series in a new context in a totally epic and moving way, and it’s all very good. Except that Horikoshi is determined to never let anyone actually give this kid a hug. Who hurt you, dude.

omg we are opening on a callback to chapter 212, a.k.a. the chapter with by far the cutest flashback that doesn’t involve any baby Todorokis

baby Ochako is lethally cute. she could literally murder someone with her cuteness. I just want to scoop her up and play airplane with her until she accidentally activates her quirk while we’re spinning around and we both helicopter up into the air never to be seen again

“a child’s insistence” huh well that’s all well and good, but I sure hope this doesn’t mean we’re going to drag out the whole “sternly lecture the obnoxious citizens” plot for another whole chapter. no offense but I think we’re good

so page 2 is just continuing the whole happy/worried faces monologue, which of course is very important to Ochako’s character as it provides the context for why “who protects the heroes” ended up becoming her thing. and this is making me think we actually are in for a whole second chapter of this sob. when will my boy finally get to rest

I was going back and binging Ochako chapters this past week for reasons, and I gotta say it really stuck out to me just how often these two are paired with each other. they do everything together. it’s a really sweet friendship that often goes unappreciated but it’s very cute

BUT, jokes aside, truth be told this is the exact right approach to take imo, and something that’s long overdue. I’ve said this before, but this new generation of heroes is shaping up to be much more transparent than the All Might generation. they’re basically abandoning the almighty, untouchable Superman “heroes as gods” concept in favor of the more nuanced “heroes as people” concept instead. and that’s a good thing. seeing their heroes as humans, with human limitations and weaknesses and flaws, will hopefully not only lead to more scrutiny and accountability, but also more awareness of how hard some of them are working and how much they’re sacrificing. that’s something All Might never quite grasped back at the start of the series -- that the weak, vulnerable, injured him could be just as inspiring as the mighty, invincible him -- perhaps even more so. there’s a power in seeing otherwise ordinary people show extraordinary bravery and compassion. it inspires others to try and do the same
