A Word from KRD (February 2019)

The start of 2019 became worst when the three individuals already left us.

Henry Sy Sr, the founder of SM Group died in his sleep on the morning of January 19. He became the wealthiest among Filipino billionaires for a long time. With the passing of ‘Tatang”, his long time friend Mr. Jose Sio already took over the reigns of SM Group, including all of SM’s assets (SM Investments, SM Prime, and SM Development Corporation or SMDC). He made part of doing his relentless service to the Filipino people through retail, banking, and property development which has now spawned all over the Philippines and in China. SM will definitely move on after 60 years as it will strive to bring even new grounds in the near future.

9 days later, one of the icons of Pinoy music left us. Joey ‘Pepe’ Smith who just turned 71 on Christmas Day 2018 and overcame a successful eye operation passed away in his Cainta home, Monday morning January 28. Pepe Smith formed ‘Juan Dela Cruz’ band with Mike Hanopol and Wally Gonzalez and made responsible for the hit ‘Himig Natin’ a big break in the music scene with the birth of Pinoy Rock which has been a byword until the present.

Just a day later in the U.S. (2 days later, Philippine Standard Time), Grammy Award winning balladeer James Ingram passed away at the age of 66 due to brain cancer. Ingram went to the Philippines a couple of years back for a concert and he was the responsible for his hits ‘Just Once’, ‘I Don’t Have the Heart’, ‘There’s No Easy Way’ and ‘One Hundred Ways’

Let’s just pray that these individuals who played a big role in their chosen field will finally enjoy their lives in heaven in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

And it is the Election Season this year, KRD will begin a 12-part weekly series as I will feature a Senatorial candidate each week that I personally chose based on their personality, platforms, programs, and more. #FACTElections2019: Know Thy Candidates will run from Feb. 13 (a day after the start of Campaign period for National posts) to May 8 (5 days before the May 13 Elections) except April 17 due to Holy Week break. All in all, 12 out of 63 senatorial candidates will be featured in the entire period. The series will happen each Wednesday at 6pm.
