i’m studying right now but i’ve started staring into space and thinking about that one seokcheol ask i was given like forever ago so here’s a little seokcheol!cafe/host au for all eight of you seokcheol enthusiasts

(what do you mean i’m projecting onto both seokmin and seungcheol at the same time, i would absolutely never do that *sweats*)

- Seungcheol is the very handsome and very enthusiastic host of a cafe that he opened with his best friend Jihoon

- he doesn’t really have a uniform, but every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, he has themes for what he’s gonna wear

- so far he’s been a pirate, a catboy, the literal devil (complete with those little fake horns on the top of his cute little head) and that one time he dressed up as Edward from Twilight and everyone was super into it (definitely helped that his shirt was ahem ripped in certain places)

- on weekdays, he usually dresses casual, although that could mean anything from a simple black t-shirt and skinny jeans (with a lil apron because he’s also like The Waiter) to a dress shirt and jean jacket with denim cutoffs to a white t-shirt and overalls.

- anyway Seokmin is from the university down the road and he found out about the cafe, I’ll Be Your Host, when Seungkwan and Mingyu dragged him into it.

Mingyu has an embarrassing crush on Soonyoung from the time the waiter had spilled his drink all over his lap and proceeded to accidentally palm him over his shorts and Seungkwan is a masochists who likes tiny, angry, blonde cafe owners (Jihoon, he’s talking about Jihoon).

Seokmin took one look at Seungcheol and proceeded to walk into the glass door at the entrance, hard enough that his nose started to bleed.

- actually Seokmin’s crush on Seungcheol is also pretty embarrassing because Seokmin has a thing about blood so he immediately swooned in Seungcheol’s arms from the blood loss and blood phobia and the first thing Seungcheol blurted was, “I didn’t believe in love at first sight until you fell for me.”

Seokmin’s more embarrassed that he actually found that cheesy pickup line attractive.

(Jihoon absolutely makes fun of Seungcheol for his first words to the cute biomed student that brained himself on their glass door, but he doesn’t really get to talk. The first thing he ever said to Seungkwan was, “What the hell is wrong with your hair?” and Seungkwan was having a Bad Day so he ended up crying into his hazelnut latte and Jihoon will forever feel bad about that.)

(Seungkwan will absolutely be making Jihoon pay for that comment for the rest of his life, but I digress.)

- either way, Seokmin has a crush on the ridiculously handsome host of I’ll Be Your Host and that’s part of the reason why he spends every free afternoon at the cafe. Well, other than the fact that the coffee is really good and their baker Jisoo makes really great pastries. (Eventually, Hansol ends up as part of their little hopeless trio because Hansol has had the biggest crush on Jisoo ever but is literally unable to function any time he’s faced with Jisoo. So far, all he’s managed to say to Jisoo is “hi”. It – it’s a start?????)

- I’ll Be Your Host ends up having an open mic night on the one Saturday night that Seokmin doesn’t have work, so Seungkwan drags him over to the signup sheet that Seungcheol is (of course) manning.

“Oh, it’s you!” Seungcheol says cheerfully, but thankfully doesn’t elaborate.

“Hi,” Seokmin says shyly with a nervous grin. Seokmin is not usually a quiet person, but he doesn’t want to embarrass himself in front of Seungcheol any more than he already has.

“We’re going up there,” Seungkwan says imperiously, scrawling his name and Seokmin’s, followed by the song they’re going to sing – Huhgak’s Monodrama.

Seungcheol ignores Seungkwan in favour of grinning at Seokmin and, well, Seokmin’s poor heart can’t really stand much more of that, so he ends up saying a hurried bye and zooming away with Seungkwan in tow.

“Hyung,” Seungkwan says pitifully, “you’re hopeless.”

Seokmin sputters. It’s true but that doesn’t mean he should say it.

- now, on Seungcheol’s end, he’s been trying to find a way to talk to the cute guy who walked into the door and swooned in his arms, but he’s been unsuccessful. The cutie, Seokmin, never comes in alone; he’s always surrounded by his friends and, well, it’s hard to flirt with a guy when all his friends are watching.

It’s not like Seungcheol is shy or anything. He just – he’s got some class, alright?

(Seungcheol is actually secretly very shy and would rather curl up in a ball and eat dirt than have that much attention on him at once. That’s why Soonyoung is usually the host of all the events they have while Seungcheol handles with the other front of house stuff.)

He just wants to be able to talk to Seokmin and make him laugh and watch his lips curl into a grin. He doesn’t have it bad. He’s just sentimental.

(He’s been watching Seokmin for a little while and he likes the way Seokmin’s eyes curl into crescents and the way his laugh always sounds so joyful.)

- Seungcheol doesn’t fall in love easily. He’s usually cautious – it’s why he and Jihoon make such good friends. He holds his cards close to his chest and doesn’t let people in easily, even if he’s friendly and quick to smile.

But there’s something about Seokmin, their newest regular – something in his smile and laugh and the way he usually has a smart little quip or insightful anecdotes on the moments Seungcheol can get him alone – that draws Seungcheol in. He’s not in love, but he thinks that he’d like to find something that warm and sticky and gooey with Seokmin.

- well, he’s not in love until he sees Seokmin pick up his microphone and sing that first note.

Seungcheol has been around a lot of good singers in his life. Heck, Jihoon has a really pretty voice and Jisoo isn’t half bad either. They have similar tones, but pleasant nonetheless.

To Seungcheol, listening to Seokmin sing is like hearing a siren sing.

He’s enamoured from the first syllable, eyes widening and mouth going slack. His heart beats just that little faster and butterflies flutter in his stomach because wow, Seokmin can really sing and that’s extremely attractive.

There’s something confident about Seokmin too, as he stands on their little makeshift stage with microphone in hand. Seungcheol doesn’t even realise he’s dropped his clipboard until Jihoon is nudging it into his hands with a knowing look.

- after his performance, Seokmin looks exhilarated and breathless. Jihoon whisks Seungkwan away towards his friends and for once, Seokmin is alone.

And Seungcheol is right there.

“Wow,” Seungcheol breathes. Tonight, he’s in a tailored pinstripe suit, his hair carefully tousled. There’s a sleek, black tie nestled under his collarbone and a pocket square resting in the pocket of his jacket. Tonight’s look, it seems, is mafia inspired and Seokmin can’t help but notice how good Seungcheol looks.

“Thanks,” Seokmin replies, just as breathlessly. His eyes dart down to Seungcheol’s tie, where it’s little crooked and skewed. “Did you like it?”

“You have the voice of a god,” Seungcheol says bluntly.

Seokmin’s cheeks instantly turn red, but he can’t help but let out a pleased giggle. He knows he has a good voice – he’s had years of vocal lessons under his belt – but it’s really something when your big time crush is praising you for it.

“Thank you, Seungcheol-ssi,” Seokmin replies warmly.

Seungcheol grins bashfully. “You don’t have to be so formal with me. You’re one of our regulars, you know. And I...” I look forward to seeing you every time you come in.

Seungcheol blinks dumbly. He doesn’t know where that thought came from, but it sets off a warm burn in his chest.

“Okay... hyung.” Seokmin grins brightly at that. Something in Seungcheol stirs at that bright smile and the curve of Seokmin’s eyes and cheekbones.

Seokmin takes a step closer and Seungcheol’s breath hitches.

“Your tie is crooked,” Seokmin says, voice low from the proximity. “Let me help you with that.”

Seungcheol doesn’t know if he says anything, because Seokmin is leaning in close to fix his crooked tie. His fingers are nimble as they brush Seungcheol’s collar and he’s so whipped. Seungcheol finds himself mesmerised with the flutter of Seokmin’s eyelashes and the faint whiff of product from Seokmin’s meticulously styled hair.

Before he realises what is happening, Seokmin is stepping back with a satisfied smile. His hands are a gentle pressure on Seungcheol’s shoulders as he smooths down his collar and jacket.

“There. Now you look like a real mafia boss.”

“Thanks,” Seungcheol croaks out.

Before he can decide on doing something embarrassing, like blurt out a love confession or pull Seokmin in for a kiss, one of Seokmin’s loudmouthed friends is calling him over, breaking the moment.

Seokmin lets out a breath, eyes warm in the dim light of the cafe.

“I’ll see you around, Seungcheol hyung,” Seokmin calls out cheerfully, walking away without knowing that he’s actually taking Seungcheol’s heart with him.

Yeah... Seungcheol is definitely whipped.

I honestly feel like he is the most likely to end up with a foreigner. Dont ask me why, I just think so. The only thing he really saw differently about liking a foreigner vs a Korean is the language barrier. Like he'd worry about how to approach you. Finally settling on going over and shyly asking if she/you speak korean. When you answered yes, even though it wasn't the best. He was over the moon. While he has no experience with girls, he has experience with making friends. So he'd try and make friends with you. When you happily agreed, eager to make more friends in the foreign country, he was over the entire freaking universe. Excited to get to know you more and also see where this road took his crush. Maybe he'd finally get his first Girlfriend.

Of course he'd given it to you, as he left he made a note to thank Sagang for practically throwing him on top of you.

You nodded leaving. You'd looked them up, they were really talented. When you saw them again, you talked to them. Junwook didn't really talk he was nervous. Thus he looked intimidating. Nervous child alert! But like you were nervous too. Let's just say for woojin you had mutual crushes on one another. You were helping him study English. sorry for the kind of dumb question (there isn't much about it on the interweb and i'm not sure if you've answered it before) but do you think there's any underrated ships in svt or just members who are still awkward around each other? i mean i would totally buy the fact that they're all very close but idk groups that are genuinely close on screen and off screen are largely what ends up making me stan them. thank you!

Seventeen are really pretty close, which always surprises me, but most people don’t count for the sheer amount of ships. Most people don’t realize that there are a dozen ships that don’t work well. There’s like… Excuse my sad math skills… Something like 78 possible ships of two people in Seventeen. Some match together naturally, such as same age pairs like SoonHoon or Jihan, or friends like Meanie couple. But do you ever hear anything about… I don’t know… Seungkwan and The8? For simplicity sake, I’ll go over a few ships that do interact a fair bit but I still find a little awkward. After that I’ll do one or two unappreciated ships. 

DK + S.Coups (I am told this is SeokCheol) - Seungcheol literally gets along with everyone. He’s a fantastic leader. But DK has the type of personality that can be a little difficult without a balancing piece such as Hoshi. His playfulness can be a little over the top and his jokes can be a little hard to understand, but I think Seungcheol ultimately tries really hard to have a good relationship with him. This couple is best when they’re playing, but Seungcheol is still doing most of the directing, like in One Fine Day when they were playing Real Man. 

Jeonghan + Wonwoo (Wonhan… I think) - This one is actually based less on my opinion and more on what they say. Very often, Jeonghan points out Wonwoo as the member he’s most awkward with and vice versa, however they’re actually a really cute ship if you look at it. They both have the tendency to be clingy and love the concept of both getting and receiving attention, although Jeonghan will go out of his way to try and get it and he’s very open in giving it and Wonwoo mostly only likes attention when it comes from someone he’s close to and only gives it away when he really enjoys the person as well. It’s possible the similarities cause a slight disconnect between the two, making Wonwoo seem closed off to Jeonghan and Jeonghan too open and frivolous to Wonwoo, but at the end of the day they both speak a similar language so it’s easy for them to agree on things if they take the time to listen to the other, making them a cute back and forth ship to follow.

Joshua - Honestly, I couldn’t really find one for Joshua… He’s a little shy, but less in the way that he’s quiet and introverted and more in the way that he has a set group of people he generally interacts with. He’ll interact a lot with Jeonghan and Scoups and Vernon and a little with Jun and Hoshi, but for the most part. he doesn’t interact with people outside his usual circle enough to consider it a really strong ship? Well, there’s one, but i’m saving that for the unappreciated ships section.

Jun + Hoshi (Soon…Hui. Soonhui?) - The other end of the spectrum from Soonhoon, who get along well naturally because they’re a similar age and are able to speak freely, are Jun and Hoshi. They get along well and work together well, however unlike most of Hoshi’s close friendships, Jun doesn’t really play off of Hoshi’s gags. They’re still a ship in their own right and they work well together, but Jun’s quiet but freespirited personality who prefers more personal teasing such as the way he plays with The8 conflicts sometimes with Hoshi’s general playfulness and occasional seriousness about work and responsibility. This ship I think are very much like brothers or coworkers who aren’t best friends but will still up for a drink whenever. 

Jeonghan + Woozi (Ji…Jeong… Ah… HoonHan?) - One of the things that makes Jeonghan’s ships interesting is either because he enjoys to give and take attention (as in Jihan) or he’s very caring and treats each member like his little child (Jeonghan and Dino). However, with Woozi, he really doesn’t have much of either. As his unit leader, Woozi is in a position higher than him, but still younger. This can cause a little conflict, but in general Jeonghan is a very laid back personality and doesn’t make it an issue. Some things Jeonghan does can annoy Woozi too, but in general the two have a very amicable and sometimes even close relationship. It can sometimes be awkward though.

Mingyu + Wonwoo (Meanie) - Whaaaat? Meanie couple are still awkward with each other? Well, one of the first things I wrote up a long time ago was why Jicheol was awkward with each other, and that was because of their adjustment to debut and the new roles they played. I think Meanie went through and is still a little in the process of something similar. They’re very close and a very great ship, but instead of offscreen being awkward with each other I think they’re more awkward on screen, adjusting to the amount of attention and interest their friendship garners. Joshua and Jeonghan naturally acclimated very easily to the Jihan craze, but for Mingyu and Wonwoo it’s not so easy. Their friendship is very natural to them, and when it’s strained, Mingyu might put too much pressure on himself and Wonwoo might pull away completely. However, they’re working through the awkwardness well, and starting to become closer because of it.

The8 - Like Joshua, I really can’t find a ship for him that is very awkward? He doesn’t move outside of his friend group much (Mingyu, Jun, Vernon) but when he does most of his interactions (like Seungkwan) are very friendly and nice. Everyone in the group adores him. Yes, he’s a savage. But an adorable, lovable savage. Plus, the language gap makes it a little hard to discern understanding vs awkwardness as well.

Seungkwan + DK (Seokkwan is all I’m finding. Otherwise main vocal line) - This is another ship that’s kind of big but I still find awkward. Seungkwan and Hoshi get along well, and Hoshi and DK of course make Soonseok, but when you remove Hoshi from the equation, you’re left with DK and Seungkwan alone. While they play together well, I think there’s an amount of awkwardness that comes naturally from the positions of both being main vocals, as well as the fact that Seungkwan and DK are both of similar interests and personalities but Seungkwan is appreciated as talented and charismatic while DK is very often awkward and unappreciated. However, I also find that a lot of this awkwardness is relieved by the fact that they’re also similar in their heart - kind and considerate, and Seungkwan worries about wether compliments to himself will hurt DK, but DK still works to say that he’s the one who needs to improve and won’t take it out on Seungkwan. While they can both be awkward and a little dangerous to get along, they work through it by just being there for one another and being considerate.

Vernon + Wonwoo (I’m told Wonsol. I like Wonnon much better, it makes me giggle) - This one is a bit interesting to explore, especially since I love the family dynamic of Hip Hop unit. While I really do find Hip Hop unit to be close, I think Vernon and Wonwoo are probably the most awkward pair in the unit, like an older brother who appreciates and supports his little brother but doesn’t exactly know how to interact with him to become closer. Vernon’s and Wonwoo’s senses of humor are both offbeat, but slightly out of step with one another, so it’s not easy for them to find a situation where they click naturally, and while Wonwoo admires Vernon and finds him an interesting person, I think Wonwoo might have a hard time approaching Vernon so he just mostly supports from the background. It’s very cute though. 

Dino + S.Coups (Chancheol?) - Interestingly enough, this ship isn’t terribly popular. Much like Vernon and Wonwoo, Dino and S. Coups should have this brotherly sort of dynamic, but instead it’s a reverse dynamic that makes it interesting, where Dino ends up being the serious one and Seungcheol ends up playful and wanting attention as if he’s the younger brother. Because of Dino’s manner and respect, he’s always very serious to Seungcheol and respectful, but Seungcheol wants to get on his level and so tries to be fun and playful. The dynamic is adorable, if a little awkward some times.

AND NOW, A SHORT JOURNEY INTO UNAPPRECIATED SHIPS

Jun/Wonwoo (Wonhui) - I wrote a little about it here but I was injured so its a little short and not very deep

Woozi/Joshua (Someone called this JiJi once?) - I LOVE THE DYNAMIC oF THESE TWO. They’re also a little awkward but I think they’re more under-appreciated. I think Joshua looks up to Woozi for his talent and Woozi thinks Joshua is cool and interesting to be with. They’re both very cute and I love the idea of the two of them asking each other’s advice on songs.

Hoshi/Jeonghan (Soonhan, I think?) - I don’t have much to say about this ship except it’s absolutely adorable and lighthearted and fun. 

Wonwoo/Hoshi (SOONWOO) - SOONWOO FREAKIN RISE MAN SOONWOO IS THE HIP NEW SHIP 

Mingyu/Seungkwan (Seunggyu? Like the infinite guy?) - Another adorable older brother/baby brother dynamic to me. Actually, I’ve made up my mind. more on that in a moment…

Mingyu/Seungcheol (Seung…gyu… wait) - Also known as the “PLEASE DATE ME” couple for real. Mr capables. There were so many moments on One Fine Day for this couple. Back to the last one, I’ve made up my mind that Seungcheol should be the oldest brother, Mingyu should be the middle kid, and Seungkwan should be the little brother they baby and absolutely adore. Yes. This is a cute little family. Perfect.

10. Who finds it absolutely hilarious how ticklish the other is?

Honestly, Jeonghan strikes me as the type of person who is ticklish in exactly five places and Jisoo knows exactly where each place is. Like, I bet you Jisoo can find each tickle spot in the dark and he can attack it precisely to make Jeonghan fold into a gasping, giggling, convulsing mess. You can bet your pretty little heads that Jisoo finds it hilarious.

Jeonghan does not find it as hilarious. If it were literally anyone else, Jeonghan would not hesitate to stomp on a face or punch a dick. However... it’s Jisoo. So, you know. He gets to get away with some stuff. And honestly, with how Jisoo laughs when he gets to tickle Jeonghan, how can he say no?

11. Who likes to stay up late talking?

Surprisingly, Jeonghan does. If he can get to sleep early, then yeah, he’ll do it.

Sometimes, Jisoo has a conflicting schedule from him so on those days, Jeonghan ends up staying up late just so they can talk about their schedules and other things. Jeonghan also privately thinks that there’s something soft about the way Jisoo gets at the end of the day, after the makeup is washed off and the outside clothes are shed. He likes to card his hands through Jisoo’s hair and fall asleep to the sound of Jisoo talking about whatever his little head desires.

Jeonghan is just really soft for Jisoo okay.

13. Who always leaves their clothes on the floor?

It is definitely Jisoo because he seems to be as organised in his life as he is on reality shows – which is to say, not at all. Jeonghan’s tripped over Jisoo’s jeans more times they can count, but Jisoo’s also toppled over Jeonghan’s various lotions and stuff that he gets from Seokmin’s online shopping escapades a hundred million times so they’re just about even.

10. Who finds it absolutely hilarious how ticklish the other is?

Seungcheol thinks it’s hilarious that Seokmin is as ticklish as he is. It’s not that Seokmin is super ticklish, but usually all it takes is a look from Seungcheol and Seokmin is giggling and trying to tuck his neck into his body like a turtle.

They usually end up on a heap in the ground, Seungcheol laughing as he tortures tickles Seokmin, who’s writhing under him and screaming his head off. Jeonghan and Jihoon bet that Seungcheol is actually deaf because he usually grins harder when that happens, whereas literally everyone in a two kilometre radius cringes. Love, amirite?

11. Who likes to stay up late talking?

Seokmin, Seokmin, Seokmin.

He knows he shouldn’t keep Seungcheol up, that his fierce leader needs all the rest he can get so he can watch over SEVENTEEN and lead them to greatness. Still, there’s something to be said about crawling into Seungcheol’s bed at two in the morning, after most of the members are asleep.

It’s the way the moonlight streams onto Seungcheol’s bed, illuminating Seungcheol’s hair and face. The rough gravel of his voice as Seungcheol hovers between waking and sleeping. The softness of Seungcheol’s sleep shirt and the gentle warmth of Seungcheol’s hand as he rubs Seokmin’s back.

More than just the talking, it’s the fact that they can have the time to just be together that Seokmin likes.

(Not to mention if he can manage a chuckle out of Seungcheol and watch the corners of his eyes crease, then Seokmin can sleep much better afterwards.)

13. Who always leaves their clothes on the floor?

Honestly, I feel like they’re both equally guilty of this. Seungcheol has literally a million and eight things to handle as overall leader and hip hop team leader, while Seokmin has that obsession with online shopping which means that if it’s not clothes then it’s all the boxes he leaves lying around.

Honestly, it’s a good thing Seokmin has his own room because if it weren’t for that, they would be arguing all the time about the mess both of them make. As it is, they bicker about it a fair bit, when they go into each other’s rooms and end up tripping over something or knocking into things. I mean, it’s not sexy when they’re making out and Seungcheol nearly yeets Seokmin across the room because he tripped over one of Seokmin’s boxes.
