Lmao my friend got salty bc I told them a pic I showed them was of Pluto and not the moon (they assumed it was the moon and were telling me how in uni they were talking about the moon being blamed for madness in the past) and then I used the term "MA" later in the text convo (bc they're doing a master's and we had done a BA together) and they were like "It's an M Phil" and I'm like babes you're doing comparative literature how in the ever loving fuck is that able to be an M Phil
[Btw i know it can be but it was just the way they responded]

hey! So I just finished Scent and already I know I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while.
The way you've created this story in an AU where so many things are different, but there's still so much the same... it's so on the nose. Everything she goes through.. loneliness, rejection, feeling shut out and the pain it causes. It can be too much for people in real life, nevermind in an AU where the symptoms are much more physical. The pain and hopelessness were palpable.
And it's such a good representation of the other side of this, Eddie's side of things, I mean. The way one person can decide someone's not worthy (mistakenly or not), then entire friend groups just follow suit. Even if they know in their hearts it's wrong. Seen it so many times and human nature is so shitty sometimes.
It really hurt to read her dropping, and Eddie's guilt, even before he knew the reason they were in this mess to start with. It feels like a nod to how selfish we can be sometimes. He was personally rejected by her, so in his head she must be shunned by the others. It may be a typical alpha trait in this world, and he may have only been trying to protect himself, but it's also a typical trait in real life. Again, so many things the same.
Robin was the real hero of this story to me. Don't get me wrong, the comfort at the end was gorgeous, Eddie realising he'd gone too far and coming through for her in the end, it was so romantic. But Robin was the one who stood up and said no.
She was the one who defied him and was brave and knew her own mind enough to know it was wrong, and not just go along with the others. It's like having that one friend that will stand up for you, who's got your back no matter what, even if everyone else had turned against you. Anyone who has this is so fortunate. I kinda wanted R and Robin to just form their own little pack of two at one point.
Basically I loved this a whole lot, and the ideas and the stuff it's made me think about were heavy and real and it's just great writing. This has gotten so much deeper and more dramatic than I meant it to, but honestly it's such a strong take on how awful it can be to feel you don't have a place, or a home anywhere. Thank you for sharing it, sorry for such a ramble 🖤🖤
oh WOW
I
I DIDNT EXPECT THAT BLURB THING I WROTE TO BE SO LIKED
I appreciate the fact that you took time to write all of this for me, it truly means a lot that people can feel the emotions i put into my writing because sometimes I do feel like i'm not doing enough or sometimes I think I am overdoing it
This is exactly what I wanted to convey. It goes beyond the ABO dynamics, I just put it there for the extra hurt really, for the rejection and the loneliness to be felt even stronger than the normal AU fics. I wanted to show how painful those feelings can truly be, and we don't have the defense mechanism omegas do, so it hurts even more knowing that we have to deal with it, everyday, at every hour and we cannot just shut it down.
Eddie's stubborness and anger was beyond the alpha trait because he truly did love her and because of some miscommunication he ended up despising her but never hating her, not truly, not fully
Robin was in fact the MVP of this story. Again, the ABO dynamic is to emphasize how she strongly disliked Eddie's attitude, so much, that she decides to leave his pack and that is no easy task to do in this universe. It shows how much she feels for reader, and I'm happy you caught onto that
Again, thank you for your words, they inspire me to write more and they did bring a smile to my face
I truly needed it! ❤❤

can you rank atla characters from your most liked to least?
haha wow, I mean, if I really went in depth with this, it would take all day. so I'll just rank the main bunch of kids I focus on during my writing. So this list is going to be more like least interesting to write about to most interesting to write about. but it's also closely linked to how much I like the characters, so I think it works.
Going to rank them in reverse order, and also, I just want to say I like all these kids, even those ranked last.
#11 - Aang. Aang is just a nice, chill dude, but I can't get excited to either write or read about him. He's like the vegetarian option on a restaurant menu, wholesome and good for you, but just... not all that exciting and at least i would rather order something else.
#10 - Toph. Toph is fun, but she just doesn't resonate with me as most other kids. I think it's similar problem to what I have with Aang, because they're the two youngest kids, I find it hard to see them as valid shipping options even when grown up, and honestly, I'm all about shipping in this fandom. It's what makes writing exciting for me. Also, I think Toph would be the character that would annoy me the most if I knew her in RL.
#9 - Jet. I fluctuate between hating and liking Jet ALL the time like with no other character. He'd probably be at the bottom of this list if he wasn't so damned fun to write. Let's face it, every friend group needs the asshole who's going to say the lewd thing the others might be thinking but won't say. And sure, sometimes I just want to strangle him. While plotting and revising the layout for White Lotus Gambit, I think I must have killed Jet off at least four times. Up until now I have always reconsidered, because it's kind of more fun to keep him around so that he can get punched in the dick when he's being an asshole. :)
#8 - Suki. Listen, I love Suki, but she's not exactly well developed in the show, and while she's very likable as a character, there's not too much to her beyond her being a kickass girl warrior, which admittedly is a lot of fun on its own. What I like about Suki is that at least to me she's very flexible when it comes to shipping, perhaps most of all characters, and I have an easy time seeing her with almost everyone on this list.
#7 - Mai. Up until recently I kind of unfairly dismissed Mai as a bit shallow and boring, and if I had made this list like 2 months go, Mai would probably be #9, but since I've started to write her more, I've discovered a bit of a connection with her. I'm definitely going to write Mai more in my future stories, so I think she might end up climbing this list eventually.
#6 - Sokka. Sokka is just great for his terrible sense of humor, for his never stay down attitude, for being an amazing brother to Katara, there's so much to love about Sokka I couldn't go into it all here. I feel like parts of the fandom exaggerate his intelligence a bit, because I've been doing a re-watch of the show for story writing purposes, and I would say that Sokka's plans come with a roughly 75% chance of failure. But that's what makes Sokka great. No matter how many times he fails, he's going to try and try again until he succeeds.
#5 - Zuko. Look, I'm not going to say anything new about Zuko. He's like the most popular character of the show by a big margin, and we all know that there are valid reasons for that. Me ranking him only at #5 probably counts as high crime in the eyes of most ATLA fans.
#4 - Ty Lee. How can you not love Ty Lee. I think that if Harley Quinn had a split personality, then Ty Lee would be the good side of that split personality. I love Ty Lee because she can effortlessly manage being sweet and a bit mean. She doesn't have much of a filter, so she's good for accidentally blurting things out and spreading chaos. She's just fun to have around, and I love including her in my stories.
#3 - Yue. Listen, I know this doesn't make sense to place a character who's in the show for like 3 episodes this high, but this isn't supposed to be an objective list. This is MY list. I have a thing for unavoidable plot deaths, especially when they involve cute teenage girls, and I want to reverse them whenever I can. And I've totally fallen in love with Yue while writing White Lotus Gambit. She has so much potential I can work with while writing.
#1 - Azula/Katara. Look, I'm not going to decide between these two, I just couldn't. Nor am I going to spend paragraphs writing up my reasons why I love them so much. You want to know what draws me to Azutara, just go and read my Azutara stories, that's all I am going to say on the matter. :)

Only as Friends
Alive!Luke Patterson x reader AU
Tumblr media
Request from Anon: Can we get maybe a rich/playboy Luke Patterson x reader were he is best friends with Carrie and can basically get any girl he wants and sets his sights on Julie’s equally rich, feisty and incredibly confident BFF who wants nothing to do with him? Even though she finds him incredibly attractive?
A/N: There’s no need for this to be so long. I literally just- *face palms* Let me know what you thought my dear anon because I went totally off script I think?
WC: 7.1K (I literally love long fics, I’m not sorry anymore)
MASTER
---
Luke’s eyes traveled down the body of the girl in front of him as he smirked. “So, what are you doing this weekend?” he asked, leaning in slightly and catching the girl’s gaze on his lips before they flickered up and she shrugged.
“I’ve got no plans.” She smiled sweetly and fluttered her lashes.
“Perfect.” Luke brushed a hand over a fallen curl in front of her face as he spoke. “I was thinking maybe we could-“
“Nope!” His words were cut off as Carrie round the corner, grabbing his hand and pulling him away from the girl.
Luke threw a smile and wink at the girl before he faced front and let Carrie lead him down the hall. “I was talking to her.”
“Oh yeah?” Carrie quirked a brow and threw a glance back to the girl who was staring after Luke. “What’s her name?”
Luke thought for a second, his brows pinched together before he wore a confident smirk. “Sarah.”
“Stephanie.” She deadpanned.
“Well… I got the first letter right.” Luke threw his arm over Carrie’s shoulder and he’s already forgotten about the girl.
“Yeah, congrats.” Carrie patted his back and they walked to homeroom. “Seriously though, do you have to flirt with every girl you find in the hall?”
“What, like you don’t?” she rolled her eyes, choosing to ignore her best friend and turn to the few members of her band. Luke sneered at her playfully behind her back, earning a few giggles from the girls but he didn’t pay attention to them. His focus had shifted entirely when your laugh rang through his ears, pulling his eyes up to the door where you walked in with Julie Molina on your arm and smiles on your faces. From here, Luke couldn’t tell what your conversation was about, but he could tell that you were beautiful beyond belief and he was struck.
He licked his lip impatiently, watching you drop your bag on a desk not far from him as he shifted in his seat to tap Carrie’s shoulder. “What?” Carrie’s whisper was sharp as she glared incredulously at him and his eyes which were still glued to you.
“Who’s that?” He nodded in your direction.
With a huff, Carrie glanced over and shrugged. “Julie?”
Luke rolled his eyes. “I know who Julie is, Care. I’m talking about the girl next to her.”
Carrie did another look before humming as she understood. “Oh, that’s Y/N. She’s Julie’s best friend. Used to live here, but her dad had to move for work a few years ago and her mom and her moved back, maybe a week ago, because her parents divorced.”
Leave it to Carrie to know all the gossip in others’ lives. “Y/N.” Luke whispered, letting your name roll off his tongue and he decided he liked it.
Carrie narrowed her eyes, watching her best friend before she shook her head. “No, that’s not happening.” It was Luke’s turn to be confused. “You and Y/N. Believe me, Luke, Y/N isn’t going to be one of your hookups.”
He groaned, letting his head fall back and unknowingly catch the attention of you across the room.
“J, who’s that?” you mumbled to your best friend, ripping your eyes from the brown-haired boy who wasn’t wearing sleeves. You got no answer when you saw she already had her nose buried in her songbook. You grabbed her arm and shook her. “Julie!”
“Oh, sorry.” She sighed out and glanced back to where you were looking again. “Luke Patterson.”
You nodded your head and gave him a once-over. You were still learning your way around the school, so you weren’t surprised you missed him, but you were surprised that you missed someone so handsome.
“Is that all you’re going to say?” you raised a brow before something clicked in your brain. “Wait, do you mean Luke ‘I-think-I-am-in-love-with-him’ Patterson?” Julie winced at the mention of her former infatuation with the boy.
“Yes, that would be him.” She grumbled and slowly closed her book. “But that was before that whole playboy act he’s got goin’ on.”
Pulling your eyes off him, you scrunched your face. “Playboy?”
Julie nodded before her face turned stoic. “Please don’t tell me that he just got hotter in your mind.”
“Whaaaat? Noooo.” You rolled your eyes playfully and Julie let out a laugh that you had to match, clinging on to each other. “I’m serious!” your chuckles subsided. “I’m not into the flirt with everyone act.”
“Hello, Ladies.” Your conversation was diverted by the sudden appearance of none other than the boy himself. You were slightly worried he heard you, but you didn’t care.
“What do you want, Luke?” Julie asked and you hid a laugh at how fake her smile was.
At the sound once again, Luke found himself smiling. “Not much, Molina. I just wanted to get to meet your friend here. Y/N, is it?” Your brow raised as you nodded, not doing much to stop your eyes from flickering down his body. Something Luke noticed. “I’m Luke. I’m in a band, maybe you’ve heard of us? Sunset Curve. Maybe I could play for you sometime. I play guitar and I’m the lead singer.”
Oh wow, just to add to his act, he’s in a band? Shocker.
“That’s great.” You told him, watching his smirk deepen before you could hold back a guffaw. “And I really don’t care.”
Luke’s frown was sudden, and Julie couldn’t help but laugh so loud, attracting the attention of most of the class. Your amusement at her actions didn’t go unnoticed by Luke who was scanning your face to see if you were messing with him. He slunk away in defeat when you weren’t paying attention and sunk himself into his chair, his legs going up to rest on the table and his arms crossing in a pout.
“How’d it go?” Carrie asked pointlessly and only received an incoherent mumble from Luke. “That well then? Huh. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe she will fall for your act.” Sarcasm dripped from her voice as Luke nudged her shoulder, getting her to finally give in. “Face it, Luke. Y/N’s not the kind of girl who’s going to throw herself at you. Believe me, I’ve tried. She’s better than that. Besides, her dad has so much money he could probably buy her a boyfriend.”
“More money than me or you?”
“No, of course not.” Carrie huffed out in annoyance before she took a deep breath. It wasn’t often that Luke met someone that made Carrie jealous, the last time it happened was when Julie got back into music after her mother’s death, coming back stronger than ever. “If you want to waste your time trying to win over Y/N, be my guest. But until then, keep your feet off the desk.” She pushed Luke’s feet and they landed with a thud on the floor. His pout deepened and he scooted forward to rest on his elbows, directing his pout your way as you talked to Julie and now Flynn who had joined after he left.
“Hey, Y/N?” Flynn sat at the desk in front of Julie and you as she looked over your shoulders. You hummed, prompting her to continue. “Why is Luke Patterson giving you puppy dog eyes behind you?”
Julie immediately choked in laughter as you push her shoulder, but neither of you turned around to look at him. “It really doesn’t matter.” You said before diverting your attention to pulling out your books.
Once you weren’t looking, Flynn turned to Julie with awaiting eyes. “Luke came over and tried to hit on Y/N and she just blew him off.”
“Oh my god, Julie!” your groan caused the two girls to laugh and you to shake your head. “I don’t- I just didn’t- I’m into those types of guys, okay?” The girls looked at you like you were insane, and you pressed your lips together to hold back your annoyance. “I hate you both.” You grumbled and Julie threw her arm over your shoulder and pulled your slumping frame into her embrace.
“And we love you too.” Flynn mocked your attitude despite the quirk of her lips and Julie squeezed you before letting you go. They started into their conversation as you sat back and listened, only managing your attention away when your phone buzzed. It was your mom telling you she had to stay late at work today, hopefully getting home before you were asleep.
Shoving your phone into your pocket, you bit your lip. “What are you guys doing after school today? Wanna hang out?”
When they both gave you sad looks, you knew their answers already. “I can’t.” Julie spoke first. “After I snuck out yesterday to hang out, my Tia tried to convince my dad to ground me until graduation.”
You grimaced. “Your Tia is scary when she wants to be.”
“Yeah, don’t worry. I managed to walk away with only a few days.”
“Huh, go Mr. Molina.” You shrugged and turned to Flynn. “Flynn? My beautiful, kind, and hopefully free best friend?”
“I can’t go either. I’ve got a math test tomorrow, but thanks for the compliments.” You crossed your arms as you leaned back in your chair.
“Fine, I don’t need you two to have fun. It’s LA, I’ll go and relive our childhood. Alone.” It was Julie and Flynn’s turn to roll their eyes at your dramatic act before the teacher decided to get homeroom started and your conversation broke.
---
You’d been walking and shopping for a few hours before you ended at the beach, basking in the feeling of the ocean air on your skin as you juggled the few bags of things you’ve bought. Your hands were starting to get tired as you tried to switch a certain bag between them, but only managing to drop it and knock its contents onto the concrete below you.
“Crap.” You whispered out and tried to pick it up, but with the other bags in your hands, it wasn’t working as well as you hoped.
“Let me help.” You heard as someone kneeled next to you and nicely put the few fallen things back into the bag with you.
You sighed out of relief. “Thank you so much, I didn’t know that would be so hard.” Your sentence was almost cut short when you looked up at saw that your savior was Luke Patterson. He was smiling widely at you as you both stood up and you adjusted your grip quickly before you found a comfy hold.
“It was no problem.” Luke shrugged, not dropping the look off his face. If he wasn’t so attractive, you would’ve looked away by now.
“Right, well thank you again. I’m gonna get going.” You started to turn around and barely walked a few paces before Luke rushed in front of you and kept you from leaving.
“You know, since you’re here, and I’m here, and there’s an ice cream place right over there,” he pointed behind him to where you could see the ice cream shop’s colored sign not far away, “maybe you’d want to stop and get some?”
You bit your tongue, turning away from him momentarily before you couldn’t help the small smile escaping. “Fine.” You said, seeing Luke celebrate quietly. “But only because Ice Cream sounds really good right now.” Luke nodded and before he got another idea in his head, you had an addition. “And only as friends.”
“Only as friends.” He agreed before reaching for reaching you’re a couple of your bags. You gave him a confused look and he sighed. “As much as I would love to watch you struggle with carrying those, let me help?”
You relented, handing him a few bags that were slightly heavier than the others before you walked the way to the shop in silence, well aware of the looks Luke was giving you. You opened the door of the shop, or at least you tried to before Luke beat you to it, holding it open for you to enter. You thanked him before walking inside and dumping your things at the nearest free table.
“What kind would you like?” Luke asked you, glancing at the flavors and you joined him, checking that they had your favorite before asking the worker for a cone of it. Luke did as well and before you move to pay for your cone, as well Luke’s as a thank you for helping you, you got another text message from your mother. It was her telling you that she wasn’t even going to be home tonight because she was spending it at a “friend’s” house.
You scoffed at her message, quickly texting back a short response before shoving your phone back in your pocket in time for Luke to hand you your cone. You were about to reach for your wallet before he stopped you. “I paid for the both of us while you were distracted.”
You raised a brow at him. “You didn’t have to do that.”
He shrugged, not even bothering to argue with you on that thought before he moved to the table you claimed, and you weren’t far behind him. “So, who texted you?” Luke asked between licks of his ice cream. “Your boyfriend?”
You laughed at his not-so-subtle inquiry and nodded. “Yeah, he was wondering what time I was getting to his place tonight and if I’d bring the largest box of condoms I can find.”
Luke paused slowly, his eyes flickering from his ice cream to your face before he narrowed his eyes. “You don’t have a boyfriend.”
You smirked and took a lick of your own ice cream. “Maybe I do, maybe I don’t.”
There was a small silence between the two of you as you focused on your ice cream, noticing Luke do the same before he started drumming his fingers against the table in a way you knew something was getting at him. “Do you have a boyfriend?” His voice sounded different than it did earlier, almost softer.
Your eyes met his, and you shook your head. Luke looked relieved for a moment before he was back to the attractive grin that he’s worn all day. “I don’t, but thanks for actually asking and not trying to be smooth about it because that definitely was not.”
“Yeah, yeah. You’re the one who lied about having a boyfriend.” He pointed his dessert at you, and you laughed quietly, putting your hands up in admittance. Luke smiled at your laugh before he collected himself again.
The conversation between the two of you was small as you both talked a little about your hobbies and friends, but neither of you could deny you had fun talking.
“So, what were you doing here?” you asked and gestured to the beach. “I didn’t peg you for a beach guy.”
“Hell yeah, I am.” Luke said enthusiastically, and you raised your brows in surprise. He laughed at your shocked face that you tried to hide by eating your ice cream. “Nah, my uh, my band and I usually play down on the pier, that’s what we were doing before you showed up.”
You nodded as you listened to his story before furrowing your brows. “Wait a minute, did you leave your band to have ice cream with me?”
Luke froze momentarily and looked at you sheepishly. “What would you say, if I said yes?”
“Did you leave your band to have ice cream with me?”
“No, I left my band to help you pick up your bag.”
“Luke!”
“You’re better company!” He defended and you let out a scoff mixed with a laugh. “Look, it’s fine, they wanted to take a break anyways.”
“So, you just left them to what? Try and flirt with me?”
“No.” he said but you didn’t believe him, and he knew it. “Maybe?”
You finished up eating, reaching into your wallet, and pulling out a few dollars for your ice cream. “Thank you for helping me and for eating with me, but I’m really not interested in a hook-up, okay? I don’t do playboys.”
You stood up, slipping the bags on your arms and pushing the money across the table to him. Luke’s brows furrowed as he jumped up to stop you. “P-Playboy? That’s not me, Y/N.”
“Really?” He nodded. “So, you don’t flirt with every girl you come upon because you want her?”
“No.” He couldn’t hold your eye contact until you were silent, and he had to look back at you. “Look! I’m not a playboy.”
“I’m not interested, okay?” Luke didn’t bother protesting as you walked past him this time, barely sparing a glance back before you were out of the store and down the block.
After standing alone in the ice cream place for longer than Luke wanted, he turned around to leave before stopping in his tracks when a girl stood awfully close in front of him.
“Hi Luke!” she beamed and he stepped back, putting some distance between the two of them.
At first, he didn’t recognize her, but once he did his eyes widened. “Hey… Sarah?”
“It’s Stephanie.” She giggled and Luke faked a laugh.
“Right, Stephanie.” He started to move past her before she stepped to the side and cut him off.
“Are you still free this weekend? Maybe you want to come over and… you know?” She smirked at him and Luke smiled at her, feeling a pit in his stomach because he knew you were right.
“Actually, I can’t this weekend. Band practice.”
“Maybe next weekend?”
He swallowed thickly, trying his best to let this girl down nicely. “Listen, Stephanie, I’m sure you’re a nice girl, but I’m just not sure this is going to work out with us.”
“Are you breaking up with me?”
Luke scrunched his face. “I don’t think- We weren’t dat-“
“Fine! Have fun with Y/N then.” Her voice raised and Luke stepped back slowly again. “Don’t think I didn’t see you two getting cozy in that booth together.” She turned around and stormed off, leaving Luke very confused.
“Okay?” He asked at her sudden shift of character before he left the shop himself to rejoin his band.
“How’d it go?” Reggie called out when Luke came sulking back.
At Luke’s silence, the band laughed out. Luke took a seat on the bench end of the bench next to Alex. “I’m a playboy.” He expected his friends to deny his claim, but they remained silent and only shot each other’s looks. He turned to them, giving them looks of disbelief. “You guys think I’m a-“
“No, we don’t!” Alex cut Luke before he could finish his sentence, but he knew his argument wasn’t going to be a strong one as Luke quirked a brow at him. “But you do go through girls like you go through guitar picks.”
“Why does this bother you all of a sudden?”
“Because Reginald,” Luke sighed out and leaned back on the bench and crossed his arms. “Y/N doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
“And? Just move on to the next girl who smiles your way.” Bobby joked and made Reggie and Alex chuckle, but Luke just groaned.
“No, it’s not like that. Y/N, she’s different.”
“Different how? You guys had one ice cream for 30 minutes.” Alex said, not understanding why you were suddenly a big deal to Luke.
Luke tried to figure out what made you different, but he couldn’t think of anything that made sense. All he could think about was how your laugh and smile made him feel and how for the first time as a girl walked away from him, he chased after you.
“I don’t know.” Luke sighed out, turning to his friends for help, but it was obvious that they didn’t know either. “Whatever, let’s play.” He jumped up, wanting more than anything to get his mind off you.
---
Your house was quiet as you got back, exactly what you were expecting. A big house was nice, but when you’re all alone it’s a little, well, lonely. Dropping all your bags at the front door, you slipped over to the couch and plopped down on it. You couldn’t help as your thoughts moved onto Luke. It was fun to spend time with him today, but you couldn’t just be a hook-up to him, or anyone. You’ve had enough of that at your old school and once you moved back, you promised yourself you were done with those types of boys. But that didn’t make passing up Luke any easier.
You needed a second opinion or at least an opinion that wasn’t your own, so you called Julie.
“Hey, underachiever.” You chuckled into the call, happy Julie and Flynn allowed you into their nicknames, although yours was still in the works.
“Hey, good-for-nothing.” Julie chuckled back and you gasped through your laughs.
“Julie Molina, what have I ever done to you!” you faked sadness, hearing Julie’s laugh quiet only because she pulled the phone away from her ear.
“I was just trying it out, okay? Now, what’s up?”
You played with the hem of your shirt, trying to figure out what to tell her. “I hung out with Luke today.”
“Oh?”
“Don’t ‘oh’ me, J.” you huffed out. “I went shopping and spilled one of my bags and he showed up to help me pick my things up.”
“How heroic.” She joked and you chuckled. “That doesn’t really count as hanging out, Y/N.”
“No, but getting ice cream after and talking kind of does.” Julie fell silent and after a few moments, you sat up quickly, already knowing what she was thinking. “It wasn’t a date.”
“I didn’t say it was.”
“You thought it.” You mumbled, closing your eyes and relaxing back on the couch.
“Did you?”
It was your turn to be silent before you shook your head then realized she couldn’t see you. “I don’t think so. It’s like- I’m not interested in being one the girls he goes after, but…”
“But you had fun?”
“Does it make me a hypocrite if I say yes?”
“Just a little.” Julie and you laughed at her joke. “What are you going to do about it?”
“Ignore him?” You didn’t need to see Julie to know she was giving you an unimpressed look. “Seriously Julie! I’ll just ignore him until he loses interest.”
“And if he never loses interest?”
“Oh, he will. Guys like him always do.” That you were sure of.
Julie and you stayed on the call for a few more hours before your phone was about to die and you had to get up and plug it in, saying goodbye to her in the process. Once the call was over and your phone was plugged in next to the couch, you scrolled through the notifications you missed. There wasn’t a lot, and they were mostly boring ones, but one of them caught your attention.
Unknown Number
Hey, it’s Luke. Carrie gave me your number. Wanna talk?
You stared at the message for far longer than you’d care to admit before you tossed your phone on the table with a grunt and turned the tv on. Scrolling through the channels wasn’t as distracting as you hoped, especially when your phone started ringing. You expected it to be Julie, but when you picked it up to look, you were greeted with the same number you just read from Luke.
You hesitated before answering. “Calling? Really? Were you even sure this was my number?”
At the sound of your voice, Luke involuntarily smiled. “I hoped.”
“What did you want to talk about?” you said getting straight to the point.
There was a pause on Luke’s end before his laugh sounded in your ear. “You know, I don’t remember.”
“And why is that?”
“Ooh, that I can’t tell you.” Luke waited for you to respond, but when you didn’t, he knew you were waiting for him to continue because you weren’t letting him off that easily. “Okay, I don’t remember because the moment I heard your voice, I forgot.”
You snorted, covering your mouth with the back of your hand. “What a line, Luke!” you guffawed, always shocked by his nerve. “How many times have you used that one on a girl?”
Luke knew what it sounded like. “Never.” He answered honestly, hearing your laugh quiet a little as he continued. “Yeah, yeah. Keep laughing but I’m being honest.”
“Why don’t I believe you?”
“Because I haven’t really given you a reason to.”
His words made you frown a little. “Should I believe you?”
“I want you to.”
You nodded, chewing your lip slightly as you tried to figure out what you were feeling. The butterflies that were starting to flutter in your stomach unnerved you, but if you were being honest, you kind of liked the feeling. “Well, how are you going to make me believe you?”
Luke was silent and if it wasn’t for the small shuffle of what you assumed was him moving in his room, you would’ve thought the call ended. “Did you have dinner yet?”
“What?”
“Dinner? You know, the meal you eat usually when the day is ending.”
“I know what dinner is, Luke. And no, I haven’t eaten yet. Why?” you glanced to the fridge, hoping your mother had at least gone grocery shopping for you, something you should’ve checked hours ago.
“Do you like pizza?”
---
Luke pulled up to your house half an hour later with your favorite pizza in his hands and a smile on his face as he knocked on the door.
“It’s creepy that you know where I live.” You told him as you opened the door and let him in out of the cold.
Luke frowned. “You gave me the address?”
You nodded and put your hands on your hips. “Yeah. It’s also creepy that I just willingly did that.” You mumbled to yourself, wondering how the hell you allowed Luke to just be in your house, bringing you food, no less. You pointed, “Living room is over there. I’ll get plates.”
Luke took the time to glance around your house when you were gone and he made his way slowly to the couch, stopping at the shelf of pictures. There were quite a few of when you were younger that made Luke smile involuntarily as he picked them up, studying them for a few minutes before putting them back. He was on his third picture before you came back in with plates and cans of soda.
“Oh, good. You found the pictures.” You huffed a laugh, peering over your shoulder to see he was staring at one of Julie, Flynn, and you almost a month before you moved. The three of you were in Julie’s studio and singing, Julie and you in front of mics as Flynn brought some of her home DJ equipment. You were positive your dad recorded it, but Ray managed to snap a picture during your performance.
“You sing?” Luke put the photo back and you hummed, turning to the couch and letting him follow you.
“Sing? No. Hold a tune? Still no.” you admitted, hearing Luke laugh at your joke as you both fell on the couch and you passed him a plate.
“Come on, tell me the truth.” Luke pushed and you grinned.
“Fine. Yes, I can sing. I just don’t.” You shrugged and grabbed a slice of pizza and taking a bite.
“Why not?” Luke asked as he copied you. You looked back over to the picture from across the room, a smile settled across your face as you told him. Luke sat and listened to every word of your story, smiling at the cute bits, laughing at the funny ones, frowning at the sad parts and when it was done, he asked questions prompting more stories from both of you. Once again, the conversation between the two of you was easy, almost like breathing in.
Some conversations were harder though and when Luke and you finished a fairly easy conversation, you knew it was time to breathe out. “Why’d you bring me pizza, Luke?”
His eyes stayed downcast as he picked at the pizza and gulped. “You were right.” You raised a brow. “I do flirt with every girl.”
“Did you not know this?”
“No, No. I did.” He admitted and he finally looked up at you who was watching him carefully. “I guess I just never cared enough to do anything about it until now.”
“What changed?” You asked and before Luke could answer, you held a hand up. “And don’t say it’s because you met me. That’s cheesier than this pizza.” You held up the pizza, watching the melted cheese slowly move off before you stopped it, not wanting to ruin your slice.
Luke just chuckled at you, letting his brows raise momentarily as he nodded. “What if it was you?”
“Then I’d say you’re full of it.”
He licked his lips, an action of habit that pulled your eyes down before you made yourself look away. Luke smirked at you. “I saw that.”
You scoffed with a small smile. “Am I supposed to care? Back to the question.”
Luke leaned back on the couch, throwing his arm on the couch. “You are really not like other girls, are you?”
“Because I’m not falling at your feet?”
“Because you’ve got me falling at yours.” Your eyes stayed staring into his for what felt like an eternity. A part of you doubted he was genuine, that this was just another line or move that he used on girls like you and they all fell for it. You would be damned if you did as well. Another part of you looked past the doubt, remembering how much fun you and Luke had on your “date” at the ice cream shop. You wanted to believe him.
“What do you want out of this?” you gestured lazily between the two of you as you turned on the couch to face him. Luke shifted to do the same.
“I don’t know.”
“You’re so lucky you’re good-looking because you are really not good at this talking thing. It’s amazing you’ve managed to seduce half the school.”
“I don’t seduce them!”
“Oh, yeah and I totally believe you.” You pretended to be genuine, and Luke caught on, knowing you were mocking him as he chuckled.
“So, you think I’m good-looking?”
You rolled your eyes with a groan, falling back on the couch enough to grab a pillow to bury your face in. “That’s what you got out of that conversation? How does your ego even fit in your body?”
“Eh, it’s a tight fit.” He joked and you couldn’t help the laugh that broke free before you stopped it, finding it impossible to wipe the smile off your help. Luke leaned forward and pulled the pillow out of your hands before pulling you up, and you found yourselves closer than you had ever been. Your breath stilled as his eyes found yours.
There had never been a time in Luke’s life where he felt what he was now. He’d been this close to many people before, but none of them caused his heart to flutter or his hands to sweat. None of them knew how to make him laugh with just a look or smile just by hearing their voice. None of them were like you. That’s what made you special and if Alex asked him again what made you different than all the rest, that’s what he would tell him. He’d tell him that one day, he could imagine himself falling in love with you.
His eyes fell to your separated lips, moving slowly with each breath you took. Luke’s hand cupped your face gently, cradling it in your hand as his thumb ghosted over your lips. His touch sent shivers down your spine in the perfect way as he pulled his eyes back up to look into yours. You knew it was probably a bad idea- hell, it definitely was a bad idea, but you wanted to kiss him. You wanted to kiss him so badly that you found yourself nodding softly before leaning in. Luke reacted quickly, his hand slipping off your face to the back of your neck, tangling in the lower section of your hair as he pulled you close. Both of your eyes closed as Luke and molded into each other. You grabbed his shirt, fisting it in your hands as Luke’s arm wrapped around you. You let out a moan against his lips as he pulled you into his lap and the action allowed him to deepen the kiss, an improvement you happily accepted.
It wasn’t until your hand started to move down Luke’s shirt before he pulled away, surprising you both. You were breathing a little heavier now, as was Luke, and when you realized you were still on his lap, you got off. The magical trance of the kiss was now broken as you pushed yourself as far as you could on the couch.
Luke and you stayed silent and refused to look at each other. You scolded yourself in your mind, wondering how you allowed yourself to kiss him. You didn’t know why he pulled away and while you worked up the courage to ask him, you couldn’t help but guess why. Maybe he didn’t like the kiss? You did, you really did, but that didn’t mean he did. Maybe he was no longer interested? If that was the case, he would’ve left the moment you got off him. Maybe you were a bad kisser? Nah, you definitely had people that would’ve told you.
In Luke’s mind, he was freaking out. For the first time when he was kissing someone, he wasn’t thinking about just getting them in bed. He was thinking all about you. He thought about the way you felt pressed against him and so close that he could even smell the shampoo you used. He thought about how he could feel your smile against his lips and how he would’ve killed to always feel it just like that.
“I have a feeling your nights don’t usually go that way.” You broke the silence, making Luke’s eyes shoot to yours before he quickly looked away in embarrassment, wiping his palms on his jeans.
“Um,” He began before gulping, “yeah.”
“Do you wanna talk about it?”
Or do you wanna go home and pretend this never happened and tomorrow I get to watch as you flirt with another girl? You ignored the thought in your head and waited for Luke to answer.
Finally, he shook his head. “No, I um, I think I should probably…” he trailed off and your heart sunk a little as he pointed to the door. He stood up before you could even say anything and he collected his things, leaving you on the couch as he started toward the door. “I’ll um, I’ll see you tomorrow!” he called out before he rounded the corner and a few seconds later, you could hear the door close.
You were left there in a daze, trying to figure out if the last few minutes really just happened. You kissed Luke “playboy” Patterson and he literally ran away.
This… This was a new low.
---
Luke sat in his bed that night staring at the ceiling and waiting for a sleep that would never come, at least, not when you occupied every thought in his head. After the first hour of laying there, he grabbed his phone. Your contact filled the screen as he looked at it, wanting to call you and tell you exactly why he ran out tonight, but he couldn’t do it. Instead, he called the one person who warned him how bad this whole thing would turn out to be.
“It is 2 am, you better be dying or dead to call me this late.” He heard Carrie’s sleepy voice through the phone as he glanced at the clock. He didn’t realize he stayed at your place that long.
“Well, hello to you too.”
“You don’t sound dead.” Carrie mumbled and yawned into the phone as Luke tried to figure out what he would say to his tired friend.
“I kissed Y/N.”
There was complete silence from Carrie, not even the shuffling that Luke could faintly hear a second ago from her trying to get comfortable. “Damn.” She said softly. “I didn’t think you had it in you, Luke. And I definitely didn’t think Y/N was going to be one of your hook-ups.”
“We didn’t- I only kissed her.” Luke cursed his stutter as he closed his eyes and rubbed his temple.
“You didn’t hook-up? Then what happened after you kissed?” Luke froze, remembering the exact look on your face as he scrambled out of your house.
“I left.”
“You left?”
“Carrie, I ran out of her house.” Luke groaned. “I literally stopped us mid-kiss and then a minute later ran out.”
Carrie was silent again and Luke was certain she was trying to process how stupid he was. “Why would you do that?”
“I… have no idea.” Luke admitted. He didn’t know what possessed him to run out like that. The whole way home, all he could think about was how he wanted to continue kissing you or at least tell you how he felt, not run out of there and leave you with no clue.
“Well, if you didn’t hook-up with her tonight, then I think you just lost your chance.”
Her words made him pause. “Carrie?” He heard her hum in response. “I don’t think I want to just hook-up with Y/N.” There was another pause after his words, and he knew Carrie was waiting for him to elaborate. “I think I really like her.”
“Wow. That’s deep.”
He groaned at Carrie before hearing her laugh at him. “You’re not funny, Care.”
“Tell her how you feel, Luke. If you really actually like her, then make sure she knows you’re not just looking for a hook-up.”
---
Heading into school the next day, you were dreading seeing Luke. You didn’t know what to say to him or if he would even talk to you and with each passing minute, you felt a little less worried. That is, until you walked into homeroom at the end of the day to see Luke watching the door like a hawk. You tried to ignore him as you walked to your desk and plopped into the seat next to Julie who gave you a worried look.
“Are you okay? You’ve been acting weird all day.”
“Not really.” You mumbled, scooting your chair closer to her, and in a whisper, you told her everything that happened last night after you hung up the phone with her. Julie’s jaw was on the floor by the time you told her Luke ran out.
“I can’t believe it!” She whisper-shouted and you sighed in relief.
“I know! I couldn’t believe he ran out either!”
“No!” You furrowed your brows. “I can’t believe you kissed Luke and you didn’t call me right away!”
“J, it was like after midnight and I was a little embarrassed and traumatized that he literally left me there.” You spoke slowly, hoping she would help you figure out how to get over these feelings that keep you up all night.
Before she could say anything, she felt a tap on her shoulder and the two of you looked up to see Luke smiling uncomfortably at her. “Mind if I sit there?” He pointed to her seat. She looked to you for permission and after a few seconds of crazy glares being exchanged, Julie let Luke take her spot.
You turned to face forward as he sat down and looked at the side of your face, you waited for him to speak up. “I’m sorry about last night.”
“Which part? The kiss or-“
“No, no, the running out part.” Luke cut you off before you could finish, and you nodded awkwardly. “That was stupid.”
“Yeah, a little bit.” You told him and Luke’s stomach fell when he saw the way you clenched your jaw, obviously upset about the situation. “Look, I don’t know what happened and I don’t know why we kissed, but-“
“I like you.” Your breath stopped at his interruption of rushed words, making you very confused about what was happening. Luke quickly picked up on it as he tried to explain. “I got scared last night because I was figuring out that I really, really like you and when we kissed, I just shut off, I guess.”
“So, you left?”
“Well, it was easier than having this conversation when all I could think about was kissing you again.” When you let out a laugh, however small it was, Luke was beginning to think things could be looking up. “I’m really sorry for everything last night.”
“Don’t be sorry for everything.” You told him, reaching forward to grab his hand. Luke’s heart skipped a beat at the warmth of your touch as he watched your hands met and he slowly turned his over so he could hold yours. “The pizza was really good.” It was Luke who let out an amused laugh this time as he shook his head and let his hair drape over his face. You joined him in laughing, feeling your cheeks heat a little. “I guess the kiss was… pretty good too.”
“Pretty good?”
“Don’t flatter yourself.” You deadpanned and he put his hands up in the air before taking yours again.
“Would you let me take you out on a date?” Luke asked after a beat of silence, using the courage he’s accumulated after a night of Carrie hyping him up over the phone.
You smirked at him. “Only as friends?”
Luke shook his head. “Not a chance. I meant a real date, hopefully, one that would be followed by a second, then a third, a fourth, then-“
“Woah!” You laughed out and Luke joined you. “Slow down there, Patterson. Let’s just get through one, okay?”
He nodded. “Deal. So, what do you say? Will you go on a date with me?”
You smiled but were reluctant. “What about all the other girls in the school? You’d give them up?”
“They can find their own choice of dates. I’ve got mine right in front of me.” You bit your tongue, trying not to smile as you rolled your eyes.
“You’re still as cheesy as ever,” Luke shrugged, he didn’t mind being cheesy if he got to see your smile come from it, “but it looks like you’ve got a date tonight.”

word count: just under 4k, hot damn how did that happen
Tumblr media
Even though you'd insisted he didn't need to do anything special for your birthday, Bucky had shown up with a dozen roses and dinner reservations.  "Get dressed up fancy," he instructed you the moment you'd opened the door.  "This place has a black tie dress code."
He was a true gentleman the whole night, until he walked you back to your place.  The second you were on the other side of your door, you couldn't keep your hands off of each other.
"You're so wonderful," you murmured between breathless kisses as you stumbled back towards the couch.
"This better not be you thinking you owe me anything because I paid for your dinner," he chuckled, "on your birthday."
"Oh it's not that at all," you smiled, running your hands over his chest.
"What is it then?"
You smirked.  He always seemed to need a reason, as if 'you're my boyfriend and you're hot' wasn't reason enough.  "Can I be honest with you, Bucky?" you asked quietly, licking your lips subconsciously.
"Always!"
"It's times like this that I'm just really in the mood to suck your cock."
He stammered a little, running a hand through his hair nervously.
"Really?"
"Yup."
He laughed for a second, then got serious again, then just looked horrifically nervous.  "Oh, well I, uh…"
"We don't have to do anything about that, I just felt like saying it—"
"What if we did do something about it?"
You raised an eyebrow.  "Would you want me to?"
"Of course I want you to," he sighed.  "I know we've been taking things really slow— and I'm so glad you've been patient with me— I just… god, you're perfect," he laughed.
"That's far from the truth," you dismissed.  "But I've been happy to take things slow with you.  Even when sometimes it felt like I would die if I couldn't get my hands on you…"
You ran your hands over his chest, feeling how warm and soft he was beneath the shirt he was wearing.
"Ah, I've been there," he replied wistfully.
"Really?  You relate to that?"
"I barely made it through dinner," he admitted with a laugh.  "All I could think about was… doing this…" he trailed off as he leaned in and began to lick and suck at your neck; his arms wrapped around your waist and you were like putty in them.
"Oh god, Buck," you moaned.
"Say my name like that again," he pleaded.
"Make me," you challenged.
He growled a little as he pulled you back to straddle him on the couch.  You couldn't stop yourself from grinding down on him, moaning again when you felt the hard shape of his cock rubbing right against your clit through your dress and panties.
"Mm, take this off," you purred, tugging at his shirt and tie.
"C-can I keep it on?"
You got a little more serious.  "Of course you can, if you want to.  But I'll admit that I wanna see you."
"And if you don't like what you see?"
"Unlikely, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.  I'll take mine off first if you'd like?"
"Obviously I'd like," he chuckled, "but that's easy for you to say.  You're, you know, sexy and stuff."
"As if you're not?"
"I'm not," he informed you.
"Bucky, I'm gonna level with you: you are so fucking sexy it's actually gonna be the death of me someday," you laughed.  "Don't you realize I think about you all the time?" you asked, getting a little more serious.  "Bucky, those times where you came over and we made out, or fooled around?  As soon as you left I was getting myself off right here on this couch— even when you'd already made me come while you were over.  That's how horny you make me— and when you're not here and all I can do is imagine you, I always call out your name when I—"
"Baby," he groaned, "you'd better stop talking like that or this is gonna end a lot sooner than I want it to."
You chuckled before you started to slip off the straps of your dress, loving the way he watched you do it: enraptured.
You were taken by surprise when, the moment your breasts had spilled from the dress, he leaned forward to suck your nipple between his lips.
With a gasp and a moan, you gripped at his hair and let your head fall back.  Either you were really sensitive, or he was really good at this-- probably a little bit of both, but fuck if you weren’t beyond needy and desperate at this point.
"Please, Bucky," you whimpered.
"What is it, angel?  Anything you want, you can have it," he mumbled as he switched to the other side (symmetry is very important with these sorts of things) and you rubbed your hips against his absent-mindedly.
"Please, please, I need to taste you Bucky, oh my god please let me taste you—"
He nodded and you sighed with relief, beginning to slide down his body as you loosened his tie and opened his shirt.  With each button you exposed more of his body, lathing every inch of skin with kisses.
"How's this?" you asked him softly, looking up at him through your lashes.  "Is this okay?"
"It's very unfamiliar," he answered, "and much more than okay."
"Has nobody done this to you before?"
"Nobody's ever wanted to."
You smirked a little.  "Oh, I doubt that."  You palmed his cock through the suit pants, grinning when he jerked a little under your touch.  Slowly, you opened the fly and pulled it out.
Of course you'd seen his cock before, but not for very long and not up close like this.  It suddenly seemed intimidatingly big; you weren't sure you were going to be able to get much of it in your mouth… but you were excited to try!
You weren't sure you had the heart to tease him very much, but you wanted to give it a try at least.  You licked the head first, then down the shaft, then back up slowly.  He was quiet at first, too busy watching you to say anything, but you knew he was losing patience when his fingers brushed over the side of your face; you could feel his restraint, you could feel that urge to grab your hair and guide you.
"Go ahead," you encouraged, "tell me what you want."
"Put it in your mouth, please," he whimpered.
When you obeyed by pushing his cock all the way to the back of your throat, he made the most beautiful sound: like a gasp and a moan all at once.  His hips bucked up into your throat ever so slightly and the sensation of choking made you grow even wetter.
"Fuck," he sighed, "'s so good…"
You moved up and down, savoring every ridge of him as it slid over your tongue.  Each movement grew a little faster as you used your hand to stroke what your lips couldn't reach.
"Baby," he moaned, "oh my god, s-slow down, please— 'm so close, ah fuck yes—"
You stopped for a moment and used only your hand, catching your breath a little as you took a moment to appreciate how good he looked like this.
"Is it okay if I make you come?" you asked.
"Is it okay if it doesn't take you very long at all?" he returned, already sounding positively wrecked.
“I’ll take it as a compliment,” you decided.
“You should,” he confirmed, whimpering again when you took him back into your mouth and let your tongue explore whatever it could reach.
The taste of his pre-cum made you moan, and the vibrations of that moan made him grip your shoulder tightly.
“A-angel, please,” he begged, as if he was worried you would stop for some reason.  Your attitude was entirely the opposite, though.  All you could think about was how much you wanted to taste his orgasm and swallow it down.  Fortunately, that dream came true not too much later when he grabbed the back of your neck and moaned your name loudly— loud enough that you were a little worried the neighbors might hear.
But honestly?  You kinda wanted them to.
You kept stroking and sucking until every drop was on your tongue.  You smiled up at him and almost spilled some of it but thankfully avoided that fiasco.
“Show me,” he requested softly; it was a relatively mild show of dominance, but it still sent a shiver down your back as you stuck out your tongue and let his seed gather on it.  “Fuck,” he whispered, “that was… wow.”
You swallowed before answering, because it seemed like a good order to do things in.  The bitter taste as the back of your throat was a small price to pay for him looking at you like that.
“You look drained,” you informed him.
“I am,” he nodded.  “Oh, wait, you mean tired?  Yeah, that too.”
You laughed a little.  “Can we lay down for a minute?”
“It’s 10 p.m., I think it’s acceptable to lay down for more than a minute.”
Deciding to turn in for the night instead (and, of course, have a sleepover), the two of you got ready and changed into pajamas, snuggling up into each other’s arms.
It was an easy sleep after that, and a long one.  Bucky woke up first, the very early light of sunrise being less of an influence on his wakefulness compared to you bumping up against him.  He didn’t mind, though, he liked to watch you for a minute before you woke up anyways, to appreciate how peaceful you looked.
He heard you hum through your sleep, cuddling up closer to him.  It was just cute at first, but then your ass pressed back against crotch and goooood morning…
"Hi there beautiful," he cooed, gently kissing on your temple and down to your neck.  You stirred but didn't wake just yet, though you did smile; and he smiled too, loving the way your lips curled— he could remember how those lips looked wrapped around his cock, swollen and slick with spit and come.  It was a good memory.
His hand slipped down to your hip, holding you firmly against him: by this point he was so hard he was worried he was going to injure himself somehow.
Finally you woke up, your eyes fluttering open as your sleepy smile turned to a wide, flirtatious grin.
"This might be my favorite way ever to wake up," you informed him.
He chuckled softly, beginning to kiss along your shoulder.  "Agreed."
His fingers moved down at a teasingly slow pace; you unabashedly opened your legs, hoping to egg him on.  Thankfully, it worked.  He started to suck a mark onto the back of your shoulder as he slipped his hand into your panties, instantly discovering how drenched you were and how swollen and sensitive your clit was.
“Oh you poor thing,” he grinned.  “When’d you get so wet, angel?”
“It never stops around you,” you explained with a shiver.
It didn’t take much more until you were a begging mess, his fingers working their magic and making your whole body alight with energy.
"Bucky, please—" you whimpered.
"What do you need, angel?" he asked with only a hint of coyness shining through his tone.
"I just— I want more, please…"
"We've tried a lot of new things today," he reminded you.  "And it was amazing.  And I wondered what you would say if I told you I want to try something else…"
"Oh really?" you purred.  "What did you have in mind?"
"This might not be the, uh, most hip language but… I want to make love to you."
Your eyes went a little wide.  "Really, Bucky?  I mean, you're sure you want me to be—"
"Yes, I'm so sure, I've never been more sure of anything.  You've been so amazing and I can't think of a better person to have as my first."
I don't just want you to be my first, I want you to be my only, he added internally, too afraid to say it aloud.
"I wanna be your first, Bucky," you agreed softly, brushing your fingers through his hair.  "I'm really— I'm honored you want it to be me.  And also I'm very turned on right now."
He laughed and kissed you again, pulling you close.  As his body settled between your legs, you revelled in how warm you felt— not hot or sweaty (yet), just warm, and safe, and comforted.  He still gave you those butterflies in your stomach, sure, but for once that didn’t seem to just be a cute way of repackaging your anxiety.
With your panties pulled to your ankles and your shirt (which was, of course, actually his shirt that you’d stolen) tossed to the side, he kissed his way down your chest and stomach until his face was buried between your legs.
“Buck, I— fuck I thought you were gonna oh god just like that yes—”
“Wanted to return the favor first,” he explained, his words muffled.
“Didn’t anybody ever tell you it’s rude to talk with your mouth full?” you giggled.
He smiled but kept going, almost gentle at first but quickly finding a few favorite spots and stimulating them mercilessly.
You didn’t mean to pull his hair so hard but he didn’t seem to mind, moaning every time you forced him onto you harder.  "Bucky, oh god, don't stop please!” you sobbed.
Of course he didn’t; he wanted you to come, he was a man on a mission and not much could stop him at this point.  Just as he began to suck on your clit even harder than before— just hard enough to make the threat of pain tingle up your spine— he pressed two fingers into your opening.  One little curl into your g-spot and you were gone, biting down on your lip as your body spasmed uncontrollably.
He moaned as he coaxed you through it; you tried to tap out but he went just a moment longer and for that one moment, you thought your body might just crumble into little pieces from the overwhelming pleasure.
Before you could even catch your breath, he was kissing you again.  Your taste on his lips was divinely filthy.
“Need to be inside you,” he explained with a whisper as he started to take off his boxers.
“Please,” you sighed, too weak to even put a full sentence together.
Even with a very thorough warm-up, you couldn’t help but gasp as he pressed into you.  Your walls fluttered and flexed as they made way for the intrusion, both of you moaning softly while you arched your back to take him deeper.
“Fuck, you feel incredible,” he whispered as his face buried into your neck.  Your arms wrapped around his shoulders— you loved how broad and strong they were— and he pushed up from behind your knees to spread you open for him, the new angle forcing the head of his cock to press right into your spot.
“Fuck!” you cried out.  He sat up slightly and looked a little concerned at first.  “No, it’s good,” you reassured him, “it’s so good, Bucky, right there—”
He pulled back only to quickly push forward again, setting a pace that wasn’t quite rushed but was certainly a bit desperate.  Even so, you were on the verge of begging for more, you needed him so badly.
“Harder, please,” you moaned.  Okay, maybe you were a little past being on the verge.
“Is that how you like it?  Rough?” he asked darkly.
“Maybe,” you grinned.  “Is that how you like it?”
“I don’t know yet,” he responded, his grip on your legs tightening until you were almost tempted to struggle against him just to see if he was strong enough to hold you down, “but I like you telling me how to make you feel good.”
“Then fuck me,” you demanded through your teeth, moaning louder when he obeyed and began to pound into you.  The slapping of skin filled the room, as did the revealing sound of your arousal, and it made your face burn even though you were pretty sure he didn’t mind at all.
You were so sensitive from the last time you came that you were already making quick progress towards the next.  Didn’t help that your swollen clit was brushing against his cock every time it speared into you.
“You’re— fuck— you’re squeezin’ me, angel,” he hissed.  “You gonna come already?”
You couldn’t even speak anymore, just nodding wildly.  He leaned forward to kiss you and you were nearly folded in half as he kept his grip on your legs.  You weren’t sure anything had been so deep inside you before; you were sure you had never made a sound like the one you made in that moment.
“Fuck, s’that good, huh?” he teased in reaction to the way you were nearly screaming already.
“God, you are the cockiest virgin ever,” you laughed, hoping you could delay the inevitable just a bit longer for the sake of your dignity.  You tried to angle your body so he wouldn’t be so deep, so it would be so much, but he held you firm and fucked into you even harder.
“Ah ah ah,” he corrected with a smirk, “no running away, angel.  Gonna make you come on my cock.”
“Oh fuck,” you whimpered, “fuck, Bucky, I’m close…”
“Me too,” he murmured back, kissing you deeply one more time.  You hadn’t even imagined how perfect it would feel to come around him with his tongue still in your mouth, your moans blending with his, his fingers digging into your thighs while your nails were sure to leave marks on his back and shoulders.  But even if you had tried to imagine how perfect it would feel, you couldn’t have ever come close.  The moment you were tumbling over the edge, he was right there with you; you could feel him flexing against your walls as he came, and you were afraid if you let your eyes roll back like you so desperately wanted to, they’d get stuck there or something.
You just barely heard him murmur ‘angel’ as he kissed all down your neck.  His body relaxed a little on top of you, though you still felt sensitive and tingly from where your bodies were joined.
“I wish we could stay like this forever,” he admitted, looking down at you as his cheeks turned a little pink.
You couldn’t, though, and he sat up with a sigh as you smiled back up at him.  He held your legs up as he pulled out, watching with wide eyes as his come leaked from your hole.  You gasped when he reached down to push it back in with two fingers; your whole body jerked when he moved those fingers inside you and started to rub your g-spot again.
“Bucky, what are you—?” you asked breathlessly, but you were already subconsciously pushing back to ride his fingers.
"I wanna see you come one more time," he explained.  "You just look so perfect when you do it— and it's the best feeling when I'm doing it to you."
“We can definitely agree on that,” you mumbled.  He rubbed little circles over your spot, using his free hand to hold your hips down, forcing you to take all the sensation he was giving you.  Knowing that his come was the lubricant for all this made your head spin.  “F-fuck, right there,” you whimpered.
“I know,” he smiled.  “I can tell you’re close again.”
It wasn’t so much that you were close than that you never got a chance to come down from the high of the last one.
“You’re so perfect, my perfect girl,” he purred, watching you squirm from the praise.  “You wanna be my good girl, don’t you?  You wanna come for me again?”
“Yes,” you groaned, “god, yes, Bucky—”
He pressed against you harder and your moan quickly shifted to a slightly-embarrassing choking noise.  His fingers pumped into faster and faster and your sore walls burned but you still wanted more.  He didn’t let up until you were tightening around him with another orgasm, this one burning brighter but shorter, taking all the energy from you at once.  He watched your face as you came, loving the way you held your breath, the way your eyes fluttered shut, the way you bit down on your lip—
"Bucky— you said one more—" you whined in confusion when you realized his fingers were still moving, if a little slower, and his thumb was reaching up to press into your clit.
"I never said just one more…" he smirked.
"Fuck, I— I dunno if I can take it!" you sobbed, the sensation nearly too much to handle.
"Oh you can," he purred.  "You're so strong, you're so good for me— I know you can.  I know you can give me one more."
You literally squealed when he pulled out his fingers only to put his cock in you again.  You hadn’t even realized he was still hard.
“Oh my god, Bucky!” you cried out, gripping the sheets for dear life.
"You wanna call out my name like you did when I wasn't around?  I bet that's not all you did.  I bet you begged, and pleaded, screamed for me to let you come.  Am I right?"
You nodded feverishly; his laugh in response had just that hint of condescension, that edge of degradation.  Even though you knew he wouldn't judge you for it, admitting it felt dirty in a delicious way.
“‘Cause you wanna be my good girl,” he posited.
“I— I am your good girl,” you stammered, feeling a little silly referring to yourself that way.
He laughed a little, still rubbing your clit as he fucked you hard and fast.  “Yeah, you are, angel.”
The petname, even though you’d heard it a thousand times, was what sent you over the edge the last time.  You nearly kicked him off you as the pleasure finally reached the point that you truly were at your limit, but thankfully he got the hint before that and pulled out, giving you a much needed break.
“Dear god,” you chuckled through your exhaustion, your eyes falling shut, “that was— you are— I can’t—”
“Was it good?” he asked softly as he laid beside you and pulled you into him.
Your eyes shot open again.  “Was… was it good?” you repeated incredulously.  “Buck, it was incredible.  It was life-ruining.  I thought your first time was going to be about you.”
“It was!  Making you come four times is me spoiling myself,” he explained, kissing your shoulder.  “What’s about you is me letting you shower first.”
“You aren’t gonna join me?” you asked coyly.
“Don’t start something you can’t finish, angel,” he warned.  “I think you need a rest.”
“Yeah, you’re right,” you grumbled disappointedly.  The last thing you needed was to pass out in the shower from him doing that to you again.  “Is it really a whole year until my next birthday?”
“Yeah, sadly that’s how those work,” he smiled.
“What about your birthday?”
“Not ‘til March.”
“...that means your half-birthday is just a week away,” you realized.
“So?”
“I think we should start celebrating those.”
He laughed a little.  “You wanna get me a half-present?”
“Yeah,” you decided.  “I think I’m gonna pay for half of your dinner.  Then I’m gonna fuck you halfway to death.”

affection
summary: the two times jj maybank had rejected the affections of others and the one time he welcomed it.
warnings: hints at abuse (it’s not mentioned at all but it’s canon with jj’s relationship with is dad) and typos, probably.

“You probably shouldn’t do that,” Pope warned the blonde tourist when she said she was going to say hello to him. By her posture, attitude, and everything about her, he knew she was going to try to get his attention in a promiscuous fashion.
“C’mon,” she said, jutting her bottom lip out. He fought the urge to roll his eyes. JJ had engaged in small talk with her at last night’s party, but it didn’t go beyond speaking casually. You had arrived only to give John B. the towel that you had borrowed and left but JJ tried to catch up with you.
“He doesn’t like to be touched or hugged,” he said casually, leaning against a tree that hid him under the hot North Carolinian sun.
“That’s not what I saw last night,” the blonde said, smirking as if she knew him better than his best friend since childhood.
“Delusional,” Pope muttered as she began to walk away. John B. had come back outside with two water bottles in his hand and gave Pope one when he saw a stranger attempt, and failed, to get JJ’s attention by caressing his shoulder.
He jumped back and knocked over the cleaning supplied for the surfboard he was working on. The girl gasped at his sudden expression and apologized over and over again before stumbling out of the space, not daring to look at Pope who hadn’t bothered to hold in a laugh.
“Jesus,” JJ cursed.
***
“Maybe my boredom will be cured if I walked into the ocean,” JJ said casually. Kiara had been scrolling on her phone for the past twenty minutes, waiting for John B. to set up the party in the boneyard.
“That’s dangerous,” Kiara said, not looking up from her screen.
“I’m so bored,” he said. “The sun’s not even down and the tourists are gonna be the same oblivious shits they always are.”
“That’s why you get drunk, JJ,” she said. “Tourists suck but it’s nice to escape for a little while.”
“Do you know when Y/N’s gonna be back from her shift?”
“I think at nine,” she said. “She’s gonna swing by for a little bit and play it by ear.”
“Okay,” he said, not wanting to press any further.
When the sun eventually set and the air became a little cooler, three bond fires were lit and the place was scattered with teenage tourists who were looking for a good time and to party with the locals. It was no secret that JJ had previously enjoyed his trysts and used to have no attached feelings with people who would be leaving within a week or two. It seemed that the girls who came to the parties knew he would be there and it was almost like they had a secret game of who could catch his attention and who would last long enough flirting and, eventually, being led away from the party.
It wasn’t like that every night. But sometimes, buzzed girls get brave when it comes to seeing someone they want to spend the night with.
“Wow,” one girl said, laughing at whatever nonsense JJ had said. “It sounds like you and your friends get into a lot of trouble around here.”
He laughed and took a swig of his beer. “I wouldnt call it trouble.”
“What would you call it?”
“I’d say we’re adventurous,” he replied. John B. could see a few girls hanging around JJ’s every word in hopes that they were going to get lucky that night but he had to laugh at the futile attempts to seem like they were more worthy than anyone else at the party.
“How long do you think they’ll last?” you asked, approaching John B. and standing next to him, leaning on a wooden fence.
“Not even ten minutes,” he said. “They’ve been eyeing him like the last piece of meat.”
“Don’t they always?”
“What’s up with you nowadays?” John B. asked. “You’ve been working a lot more these past two weeks.”
“One of my coworkers got food poisoning and I offered to cover her shifts,” you said, sighing. “I’m kind of exhausted but this ends tomorrow because she’s coming back to work and I’m ecstatic to relax and hang out with you guys.”  John B. nudged your shoulder and you two shared a laugh. The sibling-like bond strengthened with every heart-to-heart conversation you two had.
“I think we’re all starting to go insane when you’re not here,” he confessed. “Kie’s getting annoyed with us. Pope keeps forgetting to bring snacks. JJ’s complaining that he has no one to talk shit about us with.”
You laughed. “And you?”
“I have no one to annoy, duh,” he said matter-of-factly.
“I think I need to sleep for a month straight before I do anything else,” you said. “Or at least have some time to take a decent nap without it being too hot to sleep.”
The conversation died down when you watched ahead and saw that JJ had tried his best to avoid the advances of the raven-haired girl when she tried to put her hand on his cheek. You had to admit, you felt bad for the girl when you saw the others she was surrounded by snicker, but you all knew they’d eventually try their hand at getting JJ alone for the night.
JJ made up some excuse to leave them sitting by the branches and approached the two of you.
“I’m gonna head back,” JJ said. “Too tired for this shit.”
“Get some sleep,” you said in concern, handing JJ his jacket that was resting beside John B.
“It’s really good to see you,” JJ said, backing away. “I’m sorry, those girls kinda freaked me out so I’m gonna go. I’ll see you guys tomorrow?”
You and John B. nodded and waved goodbye, watching him disappear into the dark.
***
“You busy?” a redhead asked, sauntering to where JJ and John B. were sitting. The Wreck wasn’t as busy in the late mornings before the lunch rush on Tuesdays and the two were sitting by the bar, enjoying complementary smoothies that Kie had given out. A group of girls were sitting not too far behind, seemingly encouraging her to behavior.
“Kind of,” he said, averting his gaze.
“I saw you at the party last night,” she began. “I wanted to say hi but you left before I could.”
“Just had a lot of things on my mind,” he said nonchalantly as John B. desperately resisted telling this girl to leave them alone.
“Well, would you want to come walk by the beach with me?” The redhead looked back briefly at her friends, who were giving her a thumbs up.
“No thanks,” he said with a fake grin. “But thanks for the offer.”
The redhead, defeated, walked back to her friends without another word.
You walked into The Wreck with a bikini top and jean shorts that were nearly soaked, Sarah trailing behind you. You had just come from a surfing session and convinced her to come out with you that morning before deciding to meet up with JJ and John B. at the restaurant for lunch.
“I’m starved,” you said as Sarah left the room to go and use the restroom. JJ turned his head at your voice and grinned as you walked over to him, your arms stretched out to give him a loving embrace. He nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck and peppered it with loving kisses.
“I missed you. I think you should quit your job and only hang out with me.”
You laughed and pulled him from your body, moving wisps of hair from his eyes before stroking his cheek with your thumb. His eyes were trained on yours and you kissed the tip of his nose, which left JJ a blushing mess.
“Oh, come on!” you heard someone yell from behind you. You turned around to see four girls frowning towards you.
“Did I do something wrong?” you asked.
“Other than be JJ’s girlfriend, I don’t think so,” John B. said, amused.
“Whatever,” you said, turning back around and planting a kiss on his lips for all to see.
“That’s my girl,” JJ said when you two parted, squeezing your hip.
“Anyway,” Sarah said, clapping her hands, “I’m starved and the food Kie’s making is not going to eat itself.”
You had to admit, while it was amusing to watch girls try to get on JJ’s good side, it was increasingly annoying when you noticed just how much people took notice of him. Was he good looking? Absolutely. Was his body sculpted by the gods? Of course. Was he your boyfriend and not some one night stand a tourist could enjoy? Why, yes.
There wasn’t a doubt in your mind that JJ would reject any advances that came his way nor would he ever entertain the idea of doing something that would end up with both of your hearts broken. JJ wasn’t stupid; he had spend so long pining after you and finding the right time to tell you how he felt to even think about dating anyone else, much less a tourist who didn’t mean anything to him.
He was yours and you were his. Simple as that.

being the only manager to a team like Inashiro was hard. they had you up and running six am, right along with the team, and made you stay over time when playoffs or nationals were coming up and as much as you loved the team, the schedule sometimes killed you.
the five thirty alarm rang through your room as you growled loudly. you were in no mood to wake up, especially after the night you had with Narumiya.
the two of you were on and off again ‘friends with benefits’ as you liked to put it. you called him when you were feeling alone and wanted someone to come and comfort you and he did the same thing. the one thing that stopped you from actually dating him was you yourself.
you never felt right dating Narumiya for various different reasons. you didn’t want to be seen as the girl who only joined the team to date the players nor did you want to ever be compared Narumiya in the first place.
Inashiro carried Narumiya as if he was their god. he had girls flocking him left and right. Narumiya knew the status he carried around the school but whenever it was just the two of you, he had always told you that you were worth more than any of the girls that surrounded him. he would date you in a heartbeat but your brain was your own worst enemy and denied him every time he asked.
you took out your manager uniform, deciding to just wear that for the day as Inashiro staff allowed any managers or sports students to wear uniforms on a day where a game was going to be played. the uniform was just Inashiro’s version of a tennis skirt and a red button colored shirt with white shoes and the teams sweater.
after you brushed your teeth and grabbed a quick breakfast from your fridge, you ran out onto the field, getting the equipment they needed for their morning practice.  you knew that Shirakawa and possibly Carlos would be on the field but you knew the king would be late....as usual.
“morning guys!” you said tiredly to the boys. Shirakawa gave you a head nod as a hello as Carlos actually decided to help you out with the equipment, “were you the reason why our pitcher snuck in last night?” Carlos asked, wiggling his eyebrows jokingly.
you rolled your eyes, not bothering to answer. you grabbed the stack of papers that were reminders for the team about the upcoming Japan Series Sports Gala. it was a uppity dinner that Japan athletics threw every year to honor everyone who participated in their sports or helped manage them.
“remind me to hand these out to everyone before the team begins practice or else I’ll forget,” you asked Carlos. he nodded, putting them off to the side as you, “you going?” Carlos asked, looking at the flyers again, “if someone asks me. i’m not about to go single and dateless,” you replied.
“have Narumiya go with you,” Shirakawa said. you gave him the finger, not really in the mood to argue, “um, that’s kinda why I asked if you were with him last night,” Carlos murmured, scratching the back of his neck. you gave a look, as to indicate for him to continue, “he invited Amy to the gala this Saturday,” he confessed hesitantly.
you let out a laugh of disbelief, not believing what you were hearing. you knew Narumiya could be an ass but not to this extent. just as you were about to let out a scream of annoyance, most of the team arrived to the field, Narumiya being dragged right alongside them.
they sat on the patch of grass where they usually did as you picked up the notes you had to read off before they started their practice. with the boys having a scrimmage game in the afternoon, you knew you had no time to read anything off to them before hand. especially since they were Hokkaido again.
“morning everyone! remember, the gala is this Saturday. it’s free entry for players and managers but anyone bringing dates must pay for their ticket coming in. secondly, the game against Hokkaido starts at five today. if you’re late, that is not my business to handle for you,” you read off the sheets, “now, practice runs until seven and we’re all expect to be in class at the beginning of the hour. if you’re late, that’s on you!”
you closed the binder, sitting down on in your usual spot, finishing up last minute homework as they started practice. Carlos and Shirakawa looked at each other knowing what Carlos had said must’ve upset you since you were not as happy as you just were.
“how’d you sleep last night?” Narumiya asked, giving you a smirk, “fine. now leave,” you threatened, not bothering to play his games. he gave you a surprised look, not expecting your attitude, “what’s wrong?” he asked a bit more seriously.
you gave him a look, one that frightened him more than he was willing to admit. “Narumiya, I’m really not in the mood for you shit this morning so do us the favor of just practicing before I cause a scene and you wouldn’t want that to happen in front of Amy, would you?” you insinuated as you pointed to the black haired girl.
Narumiya sighed, “so you heard?” you nodded as he tried to figure out an excuse for himself, “well, you kept denying me and I needed a date for the dinner on Saturday so I asked her! I don’t know what you’re so worked up for,” he said, instantly knowing what he said was going to bite him in the ass.
“you know what Narumiya?” you said, trying not to seem angry, “there’s a reason why I never dated you. it’s out of respect for me, for you, for the team, and when you say things like you said to me last night, I took it to heart because I thought hey! maybe does genuinely like me but clearly I was wrong and maybe there are better people for you,” you said without skipping a beat, “but you know what? clearly Amy is better for you and maybe I did the right thing by not saying yes.”
Carlos who had overheard the entire conversation was stunned. he had no idea you felt like this and Narumiya especially had no idea. he grabbed your wrist but you quickly shook it off, trying not to spend anymore time around him. you got up, giving him one more tired look before going onto the field to do your duties.
+
the end of the day came faster than you had wanted. you were in no mood to see Narumiya but considering they were going to play Hokkaido, you knew they were going to need you more today than any other day in the week.
you dropped your bag off in your room before running back to the field before you were late yourself. the only thing you had on you was your cell phone and wallet for dinner after the game.
“ready boys?” you screamed, trying to hype up the team. they nodded excitedly, Carlos and Shirakawa surprised at your attitude, “lets go kick some Hokkaido ass!” you yelled, earning a yell back from them, “don’t focus on the past, focus on the now!”
before you could continue your small speech, Fukui walked in, “uh hey, ( your name), Renji from Hokkaido is actually looking for you in the dugout,” you gave him a bewildered look as everyone gave you a surprised expression, “do you know for what?” you asked.
Fukui shook his head no. you quickly excused yourself but before you could, you grabbed Carlos by the wrist to come along with you. you had no idea what their catcher wanted so you grabbed Carlos for moral support. “what do you think he wants?” he asked rhetorically. you shrugged your shoulders, reaching the dugout to see Renji right alongside Hongou.
“hey, you’re looking for me?” you asked Renji with a small smile playing on your face. he was holding flowers with a nervous expression on his face as Hongou basically kicked him in the back of the leg for not responding, “oh, uh, yeah! as you know, the Japan Series dinner is this weekend and while I know it’s impossible for us to date because of our schools and schedules, I knew you’d be attending this event on Saturday and was wondering if...you’d like to go as my date?” your mouth dropped as Carlos covered his mouth in surprise.
this was was the farthest thing you were expecting to hear from Renji as he held the flowers out for you to hold, “oh, that’s surprising!” you replied, “but of course! thank you so much,” you said trying not to stutter. he laughed, before getting dragged by Hongou back to their dugout.
Carlos gave you a look before the two of you started laughing from surprise. “wow, Renji?” he asked in disbelief, “yup, Renji,” you replied before the two of you started laughing again.
the entire team, stunned from what Fukui had said earlier followed you and Carlos secretly to hear what the Hokkaido catcher wanted and were shocked to hear what he had said. Shirakawa instantly looked to Narumiya and wanted nothing more than to laugh when they all heard what he said.
Narumiya was pissed. pissed didn’t even begin to explain what he was feeling. he knew he had no right to get upset for accepting his date invitation but with the conversation you both had in the morning and the fact that you were going out with a rival team did not help him at all.
“serves you right,” Shirakawa murmured, “you’re lucky they don’t attend the same school or maybe Renji will get lucky Saturday night if you know what I mean.”
Narumiya stared at his friend, not trying to believe what he was saying. he knew a relationship with him for you would be nearly impossible because your schedules but the fact that you were still going out with him bothered him to hell.
the announcers called everyone to the field to shake hands with each other but Narumiya was beyond the point to be friendly with any of them. he saw the way you were giving a look to Renji every now and then and when it was your turn to shake his hand, instead of shaking it, he did a slight bow.
“he must really like you, huh?” Narumiya whispered to you. you gave him a smirk, returning the one he gave you in the morning, “course! someone has too,” you replied before going to the bench as the ref blew the whistle.
the entire game, you could sense Narumiya’s anger through his pitches. you knew Renji’s hand was going to hurt before the end of the game if he continued to throw that way. Shirakawa, who had gotten benched for getting a hit to the shoulder, laughed at Narumiya’s attitude.
“you gonna keep up the act?” he asked, kicking his leg up to rest on the bench in front of him, “probably. I mean, all of you heard the conversation so to pursue a relationship with him would be useless in the long run but it wouldn’t hurt to have a little fun, would it?”
Shirakawa laughed at your pettiness but knew you had a right to make Narumiya suffer, even if it was just for a night.
+
when Saturday night finally arrived, everyone going to the gala took the last train out of the city to get to the venue on time. one of the perks of all of this was that they were sending students back on busses once the gala ended and no one could sneak away secretly.
you hadn’t seen Narumiya all day but you knew you were going to run into him at least once into the night. you had been texting Renji all day, making sure the two of you got the outfits to match so you wouldn’t look like a bunch of idiots if they took photos.
the train stopped a few blocks from the venue but lucky for you, Renji and Hongou who had been begged to attend the gala by the team were waiting for you at the station. you waved to Renji who had another bouquet of flowers for you in his hand.
“thank you,” you whispered to Renji as he nodded as a response. he swung his arm around your shoulders as the three of you walked to the venue in no rush. what you had no knowledge of was that Narumiya was right behind you. his heart sunk to his stomach as he watched the way you were talking and smiling with Renji. his heart screaming and wishing that was him in his place.
Carlos looked at the longing stares Narumiya was giving you as he saw you taking pictures with Renji. it looked like you weren’t having any thoughts of Narumiya and while Carlos wanted to rub it in his face, he knew it was not his place to do any of that. he could tell how hurt he was feeling as Narumiya had even told two days prior that he had told Amy to no longer come along.
he thought it was a brace move by Narumiya and looking at how hurt he was feeling now, he could tell Narumiya was genuinely hurt with you accepting Renji’s invitation.
“listen,” Carlos said later into the night, “what you do is your business but what she said that day about her dating you is right. she would carry a lot of rumors on her back if she dates you. i’m not saying that if you explain whatever it is you’re feeling right now, she’d accept your feelings but she has a point in being hesitant on dating you. every girl at Inashiro kisses the ground you walk on and if they heart she’s dating you, that’s going to cause a lot of unnecessary drama on her end. I can’t tell you what to do but god damn is it tiring to see you this way.”
Narumiya sighed knowing what Carlos was saying was true. every now and then, he would look to the table where you were sitting with Renji and Hongou and sigh in envy. of course, to you, you could feel Narumiya’s stares through the entire night.
it wasn’t hared to tell that you were basically making Narumiya suffer. his face said it all and every time you went to the floor to slow dance with Renji, Narumiya’s face ran red with anger. a part of you wanted to drop the act to hear what Narumiya wanted to say but another part of you was going to wait till Renji left so you could talk to him.
Renji was a sweetheart, you couldn’t deny him that. he constantly brought you the drinks you asked and danced when you asked but he knew that a relationship with you wouldn’t work and it would be useless to even try to make it work. maybe in the future he would have his chance with you but as of right now, you weren’t close enough for him to pursue anything.
finally, once the night was drawing to a close, Renji and Hongou had to catch the earlier busses back to Hokkaido as there were hardly any busses for them in the first place. being that the venue was a bit closer to Inashiro, there was going to be more than a few busses for all of you to catch a ride in.
“I enjoyed tonight,” you murmured to Renji, bringing him into a hug. he smiled, grabbing your hand softly, “me as well. I hope we can do this again in the future,” he replied, giving it a kiss.
you smiled, giving him another bus before hearing Hongou screaming at him to get on the bus, “you have my number, don’t forget that,” you playfully said before heading back inside. you saw Narumiya at the end of the street, looking at you sadly.
Narumiya walked up to you slowly and saw the way your attitude chance as he approached you, “what?” you asked with no emotion in his voice. Narumiya, taking all his chance grabbed your hand and basically dragged you to kiss him. you were stunned into the kiss and while you wanted to pull away, you let it happen.
after Narumiya let you go, he stared at you longingly.
“I know what I did was horrible. I’m not good with feelings, especially when it comes to romance and I thought that if I took Amy as a date, it would help me get over you. I should have asked why you felt that way and why you kept denying me and I understand why I look like the asshole here but I can’t.  I can’t see you dating anyone else or anyone that isn’t me. call me selfish, call me ignorant, I don’t care but please, you need to understand that even though we’re third years, you’re it for me. you’re the only one who truly understands me.”
you sighed, not knowing how to respond to his confession but you eventually fell back into reality and sighed again, “Narumiya, this shit isn’t a joke. my feelings aren’t a game or something to play with. you know better than anyone how I feel about this entire situation,” you tried to say as Narumiya instantly cut you off, “I know, Carlos reminded me today and I will try my hardest to get rid of anything you’re scared of but please,” he begged silently, “I want a chance with you!”
you gave Narumiya a look before bringing him into a kiss, “I’m scared, scared as hell actually. whatever happens, I guess we’ll deal with it whenever we get there but if you do anything to fuck this up, you’ll be out of my life faster than you can throw a ball,” you finally said.
Narumiya’s face instantly lit up with happiness as he smiled. he brought you in for another kiss but this one was a lot more slower and dare you might say, a bit more sexual.
“come on, lets get back inside before Carlos or the busses leave us,” you joked as Narumiya grabbed your hand and held it tightly. he gave it a kiss, right where Renji had put his, “and that’s what Renji gets for kissing what’s mine,” he murmured before the two of you ran to where Carlos was to get onto the last bus.
“are you both?” he asked slowly. you nodded yes as he sighed in relief, “finally! holy shit. it took you long enough! please never make any of us suffer that shit again!” Carlos exclaimed, texting the entire team the news that Narumiya was no longer being a pain in the ass, “but seriously, if he wasn’t being such a whiny idiot, you should have kept that up for a bit longer,” Carlos joked.
you rolled your eyes playfully as Narumiya growled before trying to hit Carlos which he dodged easily.

Souls ties - Part 3 (Bucky Barnes au)
"I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met"
Tumblr media
The sun had set a while ago and the band had been replaced by speakers, meaning the party was coming to an end, even though you still hadn't properly talked to Bucky. You  knew you probably should've payed more attention to your own husband but Darren seemed to enjoy himself more around his college friends. It would've driven you mad, had it been a regular party. Oddly enough, his behaviour that night didn't bother you as much as it should've. One might say your attention was elsewhere. It was late, and you were thirsty for water after all the champagne and hors-d'oeuvres you'd had. You were positive your rosy cheeks attested for it. At the bar, you took a minute for yourself and sat down, taking this occasion to relieve your feet from your high-heel shoes. The night's fresh air made the hair on your neck stand on end and your body's instinct was to shiver, even though the weather was still quite nice. Your body tensed up as you felt a presence at your side.
"Feeling a little tired there?" he asked. You were starting to know this voice now, and it was like music to your ears.
"I needed to be away from the crowd for a moment," you confessed.
"Oh, I can leave if you want."
This made you look at him instantly. "No, stay." You realised how pressing you must've sound and chuckled at his confused eyes – which had a beautiful shade of blue in the moonlight. "I mean...I didn't want to get away  from you, specifically. Sorry if it sounded that way."
"I'd get it, you know," Bucky said. "What happened earlier..."
"...was disturbing for us both, I assume."
Bucky didn't say anything about you interrupting him. It felt natural, actually, almost like finishing his sentence rather than rudely stopping him mid-speech.  "Yeah, exactly," he continued. "I'm really sorry if that caused you...any pain or something."
"What? The coffee?" you asked naïvely. "Don't worry, it wasn't that hot," you said with a wink.
A faint smile appeared on Bucky's lips, making you notice both how he hadn't smiled much until then and that it lightened up his face in a touching way.
"I meant pain as in fear, or anxiety. Your wedding mustn't be the place you expected to hear those words." He looked you in the eyes and you  shivered once more. "Are you cold?"
You shook your head no before looking down to your knees. His eyes on you were making you  feel all sorts of ways you wouldn't dream of sharing with anyone. "No, I'm not," you said. Taking a careful breath in, you decided to glance at him. Your eyes paused at the same time as your lungs, taken away by the beauty of the man's face. Something behind his blue iris was beyond description and drove you even more eager to get to know him, his story, his passions and pet-peeves, his everything. He'd seemed to have stopped breathing for a second as well, but you weren't entirely sure it hadn't been a figment of your imagination.
"Maybe we should go back to the others," you whispered. You tried getting off your stool and slipped next to your shoe. Bucky moved fast to grab you with his arm and prevent you from hitting the ground. His grip was firm –  exaggeratedly firm. You brushed off the sensation of his leather glove on your back and thanked him hastily before going back to Steve.
"Are you okay?" he asked, lowering his voice.
"Yeah, sure." You knew he wasn't fooled by your answer ; Steve knew you better than you knew yourself. Bucky stayed silent for a while after that, and neither of you seemed to fathom what to do next.
---
"Ready to go, honey?"
You opened surprised eyes at Darren's question. It was barely past midnight.
"Darren, we can't leave before the other guests, c'mon..."
Your husband looked disappointed and now that most of your shock had gone away, his attitude was slowly driving you mad, especially when you gave deeper thought to his actions and words throughout the day.
"Do you even want to be here at all?" you asked him, somewhat dryly.
"Calm down, y/n. We've been here forever and I wanna rest for the night. Is that too much to ask?"
"Resting on your wedding night? Yeah,  that's a lot to ask for," you replied. "I thought we were going to party until the end and have fun with our friends before going home. Consensual marriage is supposed to be celebrated, don't you know that? Ugh, you really are a buzzkill sometimes."
"Wow, easy there. If you want to stay,  fine. But I'm going home."
"Are you serious right now?" Your stomach was burning with anger and disappointment. You loved Darren, but this kind of behaviour had become a habit of his. "You're going to leave me alone at our wedding party?"
"You're not alone, you have Steve and Wanda and...whoever that guy is over there. Enjoy the rest of your night."
"Damn it, Darren, that's not fair!"
Wanda's eyes turning towards you made you realise how loud your voices had been and you lowered yours a notch.
"Fine, go home. But don't expect me to be all smiles when I join you, if I even do."
Upon those words, you turned around and walked away from him. You were perfectly aware that there was no point in reasoning with him at this point. You ended up going back to your group and were surprised to see that Steve and Wanda had walked away as well, leaving Bucky alone.
"Where are they  going?" you asked, still angry from what'd just happened.
"They're grabbing more drinks. Wanda said she'd choose something for you since you were...busy."
You brought your hand to your forehead, ashamed that he'd heard you losing your temper.
"Sorry about that. He's just...difficult, sometimes."
"I saw that," he said with his hands in his pockets, "and no need to be sorry." You could see him take a deep breath in before he kept talking, even  though he was trying hard to look as calm and composed as possible. "Come, let's take a walk. It'll help you blow off some steam."
You followed Bucky through the garden and as you drifted away from the crowd, hearing less and less voices, a soothing feeling filled your body and mind. You took deep breaths in and deep breaths out, taking in the bucolic smell of the close-by forest. The only thing left bothering you were your shoes, and you made the call to take them off, leaning on Bucky's shoulder without even thinking about it. He stopped to let you do it.
"Here, let me hold them." He gently grabbed your shoes by the heels and carried them for the way.
"Thank you." You took a peek at him and smiled. "How did you know a walk would calm me down?"
"I...I  just did," he answered with a shrug. "Did it work?"
"It's starting to." You smiled at him ingenuously, taking in some of his features at the same time. The slight crook of his nose, the rebellious hair on his neck...  A question was burning your lips. It was just the two of you, so you might as well just ask. "Did you ever give much thought to what your tattoo said?"
He didn't seem taken aback by your question. At least you didn't think he was, even though his emotions were hard to read.
"Not really. I just assumed someone would pay me a compliment out of the blue  and confuse the hell out of me." He chuckled for the first time since you'd met him and you got a feeling that didn't happen often. He stopped quickly, as would a kid caught red-handed. "You?"
"I had lots of scenarios in my head. Someone bumping into me, stepping on my feet or even running me over with a car...I mean, that sentence could've been said at many occasions, really."
"It's true, though I don't think saying 'shit, I'm sorry' would be an appropriate apology after running somebody over with a car."
You laughed at his remark and nodded in agreement.
"True. It is only an appropriate apology for spilling coffee all over someone," you teased.
You couldn't even hear the music the speakers were playing anymore, only the insects buzzing and leaves brushing against each other. As you walked, you got dangerously closer to Bucky. You knew what your body was doing, where your legs were taking you, but you had no idea why  they were doing it. You shouldn't have been standing so close to him, especially on your wedding night. Your hand accidentally brushed against his leather glove and he moved away. His movement wasn't big enough to call it an act of repulsion, but you also didn't know why exactly he didn't want to be close to you.
"I'm sorry," you said. "I just..."
"...want to be close. I know." He sighed and stopped walking. "It's a weird feeling and I didn't think you...I thought you weren't feeling it."
"What? The feeling that draws me to you and that I can't control? Of course I feel that. I've...I've met you hours ago, and yet..."
"You feel a connection that dates to much longer than that," he finished.
"Exactly. I couldn't really put words on it but...yeah. That's what it feels like."
"I'm sorry," he said. "Steve wanted me to come here for some reason and I..."
"Don't say you shouldn't have come, please."
He looked back at you and saw you'd been staring at your feet saying that sentence. His face changed in an instant.
"I didn't mean to hurt you. Not at all, actually... If I hadn't been there tonight, you might have actually enjoyed your wedding."
"I did enjoy it," you replied in a hurry. "Just not the way I imagined." You stared into his eyes,  trying to understand what he was feeling in this very moment. "We'll see each other again, right?"
"That might not be a good idea, as much as I would want to."
"But...as my sister always tells me, soulmates don't have to be romantic. I can be happily married and still get to know you....can I?"
He tightened his lips, thinking about his answer. His face gave you no clue as to what he truly wanted, but the answer he gave you might have been an indication.
"You can try. I can try."

Part 3 is where I chose to start the fluff haha! I hope you enjoyed this part. It felt quite cute writing it, so I hope the final result is :)

Y/n ended up picking out a sparkly, blue minidress. Peggy had insisted she buy it months ago, and now she finally had an occasion to wear it. Now that it was on, Y/n wondered why she had never worn it before. It fit her snuggly, accentuating all her best features. And when paired with heels? She felt like some kind of runway model.
If the smile on her face when she looked in the mirror wasn’t enough to boost her ego, the look on Thomas’s face would have sent her over the edge. When she opened the door, he was wearing a confident smirk, but it dropped from his face when he saw what she was wearing.
“Wow. I just... wow.” He stared at her with his mouth open.
Y/n stepped out into the hallway and turned to close the door so he didn’t see the proud smile she has on. “Hm? Have I finally brought Thomas Jefferson to a loss for words?”
Thomas blinked a few times, shook his head, and attempted to recover. “I’m always at a loss for words when it comes to you, angel.”
“Annnndddd he’s back,” she laughed. “Let’s get to that speakeasy now, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
This time there was no awkward silence this time like there had been before their first official date. Thomas had asked Y/n out a few times since then, sometimes it was just for lunch or coffee, sometimes it was front row orchestra tickets. Despite all the dates, Y/n nor Thomas tried to define the relationship, both seemingly happy to have a casual thing between the two of them.
That didn’t change the fact that every time Y/n’s phone buzzed, her serotonin levels raised, and if the text did happen to be from Thomas, she wouldn’t even try to hide her smile. She had attempted to hide her smile before, but discovered it was too tiring an ordeal.
It was true that they had grown quite close over the span of a few weeks, but they still insisted on keeping whatever their relationship was a secret from their friends, co-workers, and family.
“Are we really making a detour to a bookstore?” Y/n asked as Thomas tugged her into a rundown shop.
Thomas raised an eyebrow and glanced back at her. “Angel, what do you think a speakeasy is?”
She narrowed her eyes, wondering if he was trying to insult her or set up a trap. “It’s a secret bar.”
“Yes,” he nodded, “and it wouldn’t be much of a secret if the entrance was in an obvious place.”
Her mouth formed a small ‘o’ when the realization struck her. In the back of the store, Thomas approached a bookstore employee and tapped them on the shoulder. Thomas exchanged a few lines of a Shakespeare sonnet with the employee (a pretentious fact that Y/n made a note to make fun of him for later), and the employee was sliding open a bookcase a few seconds later.
Thomas turned back to smile at Y/n, easily slipping his hand through her’s, and tugging her inside. The bookcase slid shut behind them. Y/n was shocked that a moment ago she had been standing in a quiet bookshop, and now she was standing in a lavish speakeasy.
In one corner of the room, there was an arrangement of opulent lounge chairs. There was a bar in the back of the room where a bartender was mixing up elaborate cocktails, and a small crowd was gathered around him. Jazzy music filled the air, and occupants found any room in the small space to dance wildly with each other.
Y/n wrapped her hand around Thomas’s arm, pulling him closer in case she lost him in the sea of dancing bodies.
“I don’t know if I was expecting it to be so lively,” she spoke loudly in Thomas’s ear.
He shrugged. “It’s the grand opening, I doubt it’s always like this. Want to grab a drink?”
Y/n wanted to say something about the last time she had gotten drunk around him, but the truth is, she did want a drink, so she just nodded. Thomas gripped her hand and they journeyed through the sea of drunken dancers to the bar. After a few minutes, they were able to place their orders for drinks that sounded good in theory, but were more intimidating when the bartender lit the drink on fire.
“So what do you think?” Thomas leaned against the bar, his eyes watching her carefully.
Y/n grinned widely. “I love it here. Glad I didn’t decline your answer to go out tonight.”
“Did you really consider declining?” He laughed, feigning an offended expression.
“The point is, I didn’t,” Y/n said, leaning forward and gripping his arm. “C’mon, let’s go dance.”
Thomas was in no position to deny her, and he happily allowed Y/n to pull him away from the bar and into the lively crowd. Y/n wasn’t an expert dancer, but Thomas made her look good, spinning and swaying in time with the music. She had her arms thrown around his shoulder, her fingertips lightly tapping a rhythm into the fabric of his back as she hummed along to the song playing.
This close to him, Y/n could distinctly smell the scents of cedar and amber on him with a faint trace of cherry blossoms. It was like he had just walked out of the Library of Congress, and she would have believed him if he said he had. Thomas’s hands dug firmly into her skin, pulling her hips so they were flush against his.
They continued dancing like this for a few songs, but by the time the third song came to an end, both of them were nearly out of breath.
“I think I need some water,” Y/n laughed, as their bodies parted slightly.
“I think you’re right,” he grinned. Something caught Thomas’s eye beyond Y/n’s shoulder, and he tapped her hip lightly. “I think I see my client over there, angel. I should go say hi. Would you mind getting me a glass of water as well?”
She stood on her tiptoes and whispered in his ear, “don’t take too long.”
Y/n released him and sauntered over to the bar, making sure to swing her hips with every step, knowing exactly the effect she had on Thomas. He cursed quietly under his breath and shook his head.
Thomas wasn’t planning on spending too much time thanking his client for inviting him to the speakeasy, but now he had even more reason to make the conversation short. He couldn’t have been parted from Y/n for more than five minutes when he found her once more at the bar.
The sight that greeted him wasn’t a pleasant one. A young blonde guy had found his way to her side, and he was leaning in a little too close. Y/n didn’t pay much mind to him, occasionally rolling her eyes at some cheesy pick-up line he was attempting. She felt Thomas’s gaze on her before she turned to see him staring at her a few feet away.
One glance was all she needed to see how worked up he was just having another man talk to her. Y/n sent Thomas a coy smirk and turned to the blonde beside her with a newfound interest.
“What was that you were saying, handsome?” She asked the blonde in a soft tone, her hand reaching up to lightly trace over his tie. Y/n glanced at Thomas, her grin widening a little when she saw his eyes narrowing and his fists clenched at his sides.
“I was wondering if you wanted to come home with me tonight,” the blonde said, stunned at her change in attitude toward him.
“Hm, that’s an interesting off--”
Y/n felt a hand tightly grip the wrist of the hand she had absentmindedly playing with the blonde’s tie. She looked up to see a seething Thomas glaring at her.
“Sorry, she’s already got plans for this evening.” Thomas didn’t waste anymore breath on the blonde, placing his hand on her lower back and leading her away from the bar.
“I can’t leave you alone for a minute, can I?” He growled softly when they were out of earshot.
Thomas brought her back into the crowd of dancers, but the mood had changed immensely since the last time they had been dancing. His hands were holding her body tightly as if he was afraid she might slip away. Y/n could feel the heat of his breath while he slid his hands up and down her body.
“I’m an adult, you don’t have to babysit me,” she shut her eyes momentarily, enjoying the feeling of his body against her’s.
“I wouldn’t have to if you didn’t act like a child.”
Her eyes snapped open and she glared at him. “Bite me.”
Thomas didn’t miss a beat. “Where?”
Y/n gasped softly, her eyes going wide. Thomas didn’t wait long for a reply, pulling her body closer, if that was even possible, and placing his lips on the exposed skin on her neck. He lightly nipped at her skin, and Y/n refrained from letting out a deep moan, swallowing roughly instead. Her hand found the back of his neck and she pulled him closer to her.
“Don’t talk to other guys like that,” Thomas’s voice was raspy as his lips pressed kisses against her skin.
Framing his face with her hands, Y/n brought him up to look her in the eye, an eyebrow raised. Realizing his mistake, Thomas quickly rephrased. “Wait, no. I’m aware I can’t tell you what to do. I just... please don’t talk to anyone else like that. Not in front of me.”
“I don’t want to talk to anyone but you. You’re an idiot,” she smiled, “now kiss me.”
Thomas didn’t need to be asked twice. He held Y/n’s face in one hand, the other hand resting on her lower back. Thomas pressed his lips against her’s like her kiss was the oxygen he needed to breathe. His knee slid between her thighs, and she grinded against his leg on instinct. He groaned into the kiss, and the next thing Y/n knew, he had pulled away from her completely.
“We need to get out of here,” Thomas panted.
Y/n nodded. “Your place?”
“My place,” he agreed.
They exited the speakeasy in record time, and the cool air outside seemed to momentarily sober them up. Thomas was sure the Uber driver didn’t appreciate how handsy they were being in the backseat, so he made sure he tipped generously.
When Thomas had closed his apartment door behind him, Y/n nearly jumped on him, your lips latching onto his. His hands slid up her legs, the electric blue dress she had been wearing began to bunch up around her waist. Thomas’s fingers slipped expertly into her panties, sliding them down her legs and to her ankles.
Thomas got down on his knees in front of her, tearing down a wall Y/n had tried so hard to keep up with every kiss he placed on the inside of her thighs. Y/n could feel her heart racing a hundred beats per minute in her chest as her head hit the the wall behind her. She reached a hand down to thread through Thomas’s hair, gently guiding him to where she needed him the most.
He took the hint, his tongue sliding against Y/n’s pussy lips, once, then twice. Thomas successfully elicited an unrestrained moan from your mouth. Enjoying the sound, his tongue darted into her folds once more, his fingers digging bruises into her hips.
Thomas brought her close to the edge, then in some kind of telepathic way, he pulled away just as she was about to reach her climax. He continued this pattern a few more times until she couldn’t take it anymore and tugged at his hair.
“Thomas, please,” his name sounded like a prayer on her lips. “I need you to stop teasing me. I want you. All of you.”
He nodded in understanding, standing up and pulling her into his bedroom. Thomas’s hands found the hem of Y/n’s dress in the dark and pulled it over her head. Y/n began undoing Thomas’s belt buckle while he unclasped her bra and flung the garment into some forgotten corner of the room. His hands traced her body, memorizing every curve and indent and Y/n tugged down his pants.
Thomas picked her up and threw her onto the bed. He tugged off his shirt before climbing onto the bed after her. Thomas pressed his lips to hers firmly, and Y/n willing returned the kiss. She ran her hand down his back, and Thomas’s hips bucked forward at the feeling. Y/n’s eyes widened slightly at the feeling of his large erection through his boxers.
“You have protection?” She asked with a hoarse voice.
“Yeah,” he murmured, climbing off of her to retrieve a condom from his nightstand.
Y/n heard the crinkling of foil, then a few moments later she felt the bed dip under his weight and he was once more above her. He lined himself up at her entrance then paused, thumbing tracing the outline of her lips and eyes staring into her’s in a moment of raw intimacy.
“You’re sure about this?” He said softly. “I’ll stop right now if you say the word.”
Y/n admired the way he searched her features for any trace of hesitance or doubt. She shook her head. “Don’t stop. Please, I need you--”
She was cut off with her own moan when he pushed his length inside her. Y/n gasped as she struggled to accommodate his large size. Her nails dug into his blood, and she wouldn’t have been surprised if she drew blood.
“Oh, angel, you feel so good around me,” Thomas panted as he pumped in and out of her.
Y/n didn’t even try to restrain her scream of his name when he began to pick up his pace, gaining speed and working through her body skillfully. His neighbors would not be happy with Y/n tomorrow, but she couldn’t care what they thought. She was in bliss.
“Thomas... oh god, Thomas...” Y/n struggled getting any coherent words out as she neared her climax, and Thomas wasn’t having any more luck.
Thomas kept up at his rapid pace, and a few minutes later he was riding her through her orgasm. Y/n screamed out his name once more, and that seemed to push Thomas over the edge as he reached his climax as well.
Y/n and Thomas stood still for a moment, panting. Finally, Thomas pulled out and got up long enough to throw the used condom in the trash before collapsing down at Y/n’s side where he belonged.
“You’re perfect, angel. You’re perfect.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about Varian’s role in season 3, beyond just that as the resident kid who invents whatever is needed to save the day’s issue or stopping the red rocks or even being a kidnapped victim who unwittingly gives Cassandra the third incantation but also gives Rapunzel the one she needs to defeat her. More so, I’ve been thinking about Varian’s unspoken role as a source of hope for Rapunzel. Because Rapunzel had just been betrayed by a friend again, and even with all her positivity she probably still felt really down on herself for the whole situation and may have, in her darkest late night moments, wondered if there was any chance that she could still reach Cassandra. Who better to help Rapunzel keep her faith in Cassandra than Varian? Even after Varian betrayed her, he still managed to find his way back to the light. He still had good in his heart and he did everything in his power to prove it. Even if it was never said onscreen, I really feel like Varian played a big role in giving Rapunzel hope for Cassandra’s salvation, because he proved that it can be done. When Rapunzel wondered if Cassandra would ever be her friend again, there’s Varian, just tagging along with Rapunzel’s errand of the day with a smile on his face and a friendly attitude.
So, because I was feeling inspired by this concept, I wrote a little fic about Rapunzel and Varian’s friendship, and the hope that he gives her, even if he doesn’t realize it. I hope you enjoy! Maybe one of these days I’ll surprise you with some angst but for now I’ll keep on being the Queen of Fluff (thanks Lissa for that nickname lol)
Hope is a Second Chance
Rapunzel was in her room, working on a massive painting that took up a lot of the ceiling and high walls. It basically told the story of her life, from being reunited with her parents, to the defeat of the Saporians, and everything in between. It was a beautiful and detailed painting, but Rapunzel was having a bit of trouble with a part of it. She held her paintbrush and sighed.
“What’s the matter, Sunshine?” called Eugene from down below. “It looks great to me.”
“Oh, I’m just...I’m struggling with this part of the painting. I don’t know, it doesn’t feel right.”
Eugene looked up and frowned at the part she was working on. It was a portrait of Cassandra, posing with her loyal owl on her arm. In the painting, Cassandra was smiling, but Rapunzel simply frowned as she looked at it.
“It just seems wrong to paint her like this. It’s like, giving me false hope.”
“False hope?” Eugene repeated.
“That she can be saved,” she sighed. “I love Cass, and I want her to be my friend again. But this...this just isn’t who she is anymore. It feels like I’m lying to myself.”
“You’re not giving up, are you?” Eugene asked, surprised. “That doesn’t sound like you.”
“No, Eugene. I’m not giving up. Not yet. But, it’s just hard. I want her to be saved, but sometimes it just feels impossible. She’s so lost.”
“Whoa, whoa. I didn’t even think that ‘impossible’ was in your vocabulary,” said Eugene. He sighed and softened his voice. “Look, Rapunzel. I understand. Sometimes I feel like that too. She betrayed you and she hurt the kingdom with the red rocks. She broke your heart. That’s not something I can easily forgive her for. But if there’s anything I’ve learned after being with you all this time, it’s that you never give up on your friends.”
“I’m not giving up yet,” said Rapunzel. She looked at the painting of Cassandra, feeling tears well up in her eyes. “But having this here is too painful for me right now.” Rapunzel quickly dipped her paintbrush into a pot of pale green paint and swiftly started to paint over the image of Cass until she could no longer see her smiling face. When it was done, there was just a blank spot on the wall where her friend used to be. Rapunzel stared at the nothingness and dropped her paintbrush back into the pot, wiping her teary eyes with her sleeve. She took a handful of her hair and jumped down from the rafters, landing on the floor.
“Um, I think I’m gonna go for a walk,” she said, starting to head for the door.
“Do you want me to come with you?” Eugene asked.
“No. No thank you, Eugene. I think I just need to be alone for a bit and clear my head.”
“Okay,” Eugene said softly. Rapunzel quietly left the room while Eugene stared sadly up at the blank part of the wall and sighed. Out in the castle, Rapunzel wandered aimlessly through the halls, her head full of thoughts.
“Am I just kidding myself?” she wondered. “What if Cassandra never comes back? What if she can’t be helped anymore? What if she’s too lost? I’m so terrified of losing her, but maybe it’s just something I have to accept. Maybe she doesn’t want to be my friend anymore. I don’t want to give up on her, but sometimes I feel so lost. I feel like there’s no hope. She could be plotting something terrible for all I know, or maybe I’ll just never see her again. How can I have faith when I don’t even know what she’ll do next and I can’t reach out to her? Where is the hope?”
She continued walking through the castle, feeling more and more lost. She was in such a funk that even the castle servants that passed by took notice of her melancholy attitude and fell silent and crestfallen themselves. The bubbly young princess’ personality was contagious, and so was her sorrow, it seemed. After a while of walking by herself with nothing but the occasional sad squeak of Pascal in her ear and not feeling any better, Rapunzel looked up and saw that she was standing outside the palace kitchens.
“Maybe I could use something sweet to cheer me up,” she thought out loud. She looked at Pascal on her shoulder. “What do you say, buddy? Maybe there’s some of those cupcakes with the pink icing.” Pascal squeaked a reply and Rapunzel pushed open the door of the kitchen and went inside. The air smelled sweet and warm when she went in, and she closed her eyes and tilted her nose up slightly to breathe in the good scents. She could hear a bit of clatter, and opened her eyes to see the source of the noise and saw a familiar face standing over the stove.
“Uh, Varian?”
“Hey, Princess!” came the young, cheerful voice. Varian looked up from the stove where he had something cooking in a pot and pushed his goggles back up into his hair.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. She sniffed the air again. “Smells good.”
“I came to the castle today to do some research in the royal library. Thanks for giving me access, by the way,” Varian explained. “I was in there for a while, and I thought ‘nothing goes better with learning how to translate ancient languages on a scroll than hot chocolate’ so I came here to the kitchen to make some.”
Rapunzel managed to crack a tiny half smile in amusement. Varian rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“I know, I know. It’s a bit silly. But I just really love hot chocolate.”
“Hey, no judgement here,” Rapunzel replied, holding up her hands. “I love chocolate. I think it’s probably the best invention in the world. No offense.”
Varian laughed slightly.
“I think I’d be inclined to agree.”
After a moment of slightly awkward silence, Varian spoke up again.
“So, uh, what are you doing here?”
Rapunzel sighed.
“Oh, I was just wandering around. Lost in thought, I guess. I thought I’d come see if there was anything good to eat in here.” She trailed off, looking around the room. Varian frowned. He could tell that something was on Rapunzel’s mind and it was bothering her. He hated seeing Rapunzel look so down. Thinking fast, he looked at the pot of hot chocolate on the stove and quickly poured two mugs of it.
“Hey, uh, you know what? I-I made too much. There’s no way I can drink all this by myself. You want some?” he offered. Rapunzel gave him a small smile and took the warm mug from him, and he gave her a smile in response. He picked up his own mug.
“Well, I’m heading back to the library to do some more research. You can come if you like.”
Rapunzel looked at Pascal as if for approval. He made a “go on” motion with his foot. She looked back up at Varian.
“Okay. Let’s go. You can show me what you’ve been working on.”
Varian beamed at her and led the way. They pushed open the doors of the library and went inside, where Rapunzel saw books and papers scattered all over the place, mostly stacked up on a desk in the corner. Rapunzel stared at all the notes everywhere.
“Wow, you’ve really been busy,” she observed.
“Well, it’s not everyday you get access to the best, most exclusive books in the kingdom. Sure the little library in Old Corona and the one here on the island have good information, but the royal library has the stuff I really need if I want to crack this scroll. I want to make the most of it.”
“You know you can come use it anytime. You don’t have to squeeze all your research into one day.”
“I know that, I’ve just been really busy today,” Varian admitted. “I’ve been learning a lot. I’ve found tons of great information.” His voice got a lot quicker as he started to get more excited. “This library has books on all the languages spoken in the Seven Kingdoms, even ancient ones! It’s really helpful for trying to figure out the text on the scroll. Of course, I’m not there yet. I still have more work to do. But I’ve been in the process of creating a translation key. I think with just a couple more weeks I’ll be able to crack it.”
“That’s great, Varian! You’ve really been working hard! Thank you.”
“I’m just happy to help,” Varian said, sorting through his books.
“So, what else have you been up to?”
“Well,” Varian started, his eyes brightening. “I’ve been reading about the history of Lord Demanitus. That machine in the base of the mountains was just the tip of the iceberg of his genius. He dabbled a lot in alchemy too. Course, a lot of his alchemy practices are outdated by today’s standards, but isn’t that neat? Me, an alchemist setting up shop in the very same chamber he used for his machine to change the direction of the wind. He’s just like me, and learning about him kind of makes me feel like we’re connected, you know?”
Rapunzel watched Varian become increasingly giddy the more he talked about Demanitus. She smiled at the light in his eyes and the excitement in his voice. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the library with Varian. The room was filled with the sounds of their voices talking and laughing as the day wore on. Varian showed Rapunzel all the research he was doing and she helped him by supplying her own knowledge, and even by using her hair to swing up to the top shelves and grabbing the books that Varian couldn’t reach. It was cozy and warm in the library with books and soft lighting and hot chocolate and friendship. Varian’s excitement about learning and being helpful was almost as contagious as her usual optimism, and over time she found herself starting to perk up again. How could she go on focusing on her own troubles when looking at that infectious smile with his big teeth and the light in his pale blue eyes? Varian was totally in his element, talking about the things he was passionate about and answering Rapunzel’s questions readily. She knew she had certainly picked the right person for the job of translating the scroll.
He was more than happy to do it. Happy to be studying his idol, happy to be giving himself a challenge, and happy to just be useful. It meant a lot to be working with the princess after everything that had happened. Sitting there in the library with Rapunzel was a sign of the newfound trust he’d managed to rebuild, and it felt great to be trusted and to be needed. Rapunzel could feel it too, the wonderful warm sensation of trust and friendship that she knew was unwavering between the two. Watching Varian work and feeling the calm and warmth of two friends just spending an afternoon together, Rapunzel suddenly had a realization.
Of course she still had hope for Cassandra. Her friend was far from gone. There was still a chance to save her. Where was the hope? Well, there was the hope. Hope was right in front of her. Right there in the boy who had once been so lost, but was now right there with her. Right there in the blue eyes that once looked icy, filled with anger and sadness, but now were sparkling with life. Right there in the smile that she’d once missed and now come to be so familiar with. Right there in the laughter that was genuine and warm, no longer malicious. Hope existed in every breath of the young boy who stood before her now. And he was all the hope she needed to know that it wasn’t over, and that Cass was going to be okay.
Because Varian had once been lost too, Rapunzel reminded herself. He’d once allowed anger to cloud his heart and set him on a path that had led to darkness. And for a time, she really thought she had lost her friend. But then he found the light again. He didn’t let his heart be completely shrouded in anger. He didn’t let himself be consumed by the despair and rage he’d felt. He came back to the side of goodness. He never truly lost himself. He let his genuinely good heart shine through, and he came back. Rapunzel saw the goodness in him, and she gave him a chance, and she never regretted it. Varian never gave her a reason to. The joy and relief he’d felt when Rapunzel had allowed herself to trust him again was probably the best sensation he’d ever felt in his life, right after how he’d felt when his father came back to him. A second chance. That’s all he needed. And Varian was the proof that second chances were worth it. Varian could be saved, why not Cassandra? As long as Rapunzel had Varian’s smile and his kind heart, she knew she still had hope. She felt happy and warm, and it wasn’t just because of the hot chocolate. Now feeling much happier than before, Rapunzel suddenly got up and threw her arms around Varian in a grateful hug. Surprised by the sudden gesture, Varian stood very still and shocked, tensing up just a little.
“Uh, Rapunzel, what was that for?”
“You’re just...a really good friend, Varian. And I appreciate what all you’ve done for me. Thank you.”
Varian’s shocked and somewhat confused expression morphed into a smile and he hugged Rapunzel back.
“You’re a really good friend too, Rapunzel. Probably the closest one I have, besides Ruddiger of course. And I’m glad to help you.”
After a moment, Rapunzel pulled away and let out a relieved and contented sigh, feeling her troubled emotions from before starting to melt away, replacing the heaviness in her heart with a much lighter feeling.
“Well,” she said after a beat, “I should probably let you get back to work, and I have things to do too. Thanks for the hot chocolate and the nice afternoon.”
“You’re welcome. Thanks for the company,” he replied. She nodded a reply and turned to leave. Varian smiled after her, feeling happy that he’d managed to cheer her up. He wasn’t sure what he’d done other than giving her a sweet drink and talking her ear off all afternoon, but he was glad he’d done his part to get her smiling again. As Rapunzel walked back through the castle, her contagious spirit was positive once again, and the people she passed by couldn’t help but wear smiles of their own. Up in her bedroom, Rapunzel stared up at her work in progress painting with newfound inspiration. She climbed up to the rafters with her hair, grabbing her paintbrush and swinging along to a new spot that could use her artistic touch. The blank spot on the wall where Cass had once been stayed vacant. She wasn’t quite ready to fill it in yet. That would have to wait until she could paint Cassandra being genuinely happy. But she wasn’t giving up hope that she would get to paint that spot someday. For now though, Rapunzel focused on a different section of the wall, and used her paintbrush to bring a different friendly face to life. A face dotted with freckles that highlighted his genuine kind smile, and goggles stuck up in the dark hair that had a funny blue streak in it. It was another portrait on the wall, just like all the other pictures of her friends and family that she’d painted into her life story. But for Rapunzel, it was more than just another smiling face. It was a symbol of hope, and a reminder that no one was ever truly lost without a way back. Varian’s heart had softened again, and he’d managed to find his way back, and she knew that Cassandra could too. One day that blank spot on the wall would be filled in. She wasn’t going to give up. And if she ever started to feel discouraged again, Rapunzel knew all she had to do was look up and see hope smiling down on her.
So that’s it! Hopefully you enjoyed. I really love their friendship. It just makes me so happy. They’ve both come so far and I love the way they were able to grow stronger and rebuild their trust. I think it’s meaningful

Hello! Welcome to the world of Naruto imagines! Can't wait to see more stuff from you guys, I already love what I see haha ❤ anywho, could we pretty please get headcanons for how the sand siblings would handle falling in love with their best friend(the reader)? Like, maybe they aren't sure if their BFF could ever feel the same way, how would each of them handle that? Hide their feelings forever, or eventually tell them bc they can't take it, or what? Just want your HCs on the topic, thanks!❤
So I assumed it’s implied that their BFF also likes them back. Also I’m so sorry that this request is so old. My apologies.
Gaara
Gaara treasures you in every meaning of the word. Besides Naruto and his own siblings you were one of the first people in the Sand Village to accept him, one of the first to congratulate him on becoming Kazekage.
He’s still getting used to his own emotions after years of being practically deprived of them so he was slow to realize his ever growing feeling for you until one day. Boom. Helplessly in love.
He’s tried to trace back to exactly when this happened but there’s no exact date
It could’ve been all those long hours you’d spend with him in the Kazekage office keeping him in good company.
Maybe it happened when you started bringing lunches to him and you’d have small little lunch dates.
Perhaps it was when you gifted him a small cactus for his birthday. It sat on the corner of his desk and served of a constant reminder that he had friends who cared about him.
Had it been even earlier than that? Could it have happened when you’d given him a hello hug?
Had it been the telltale love at first sight?
He’d likely never properly know.
And he’d certainly never tell you about it. He’d forever hold his peace on the subject. Uncertainty simply being to great of a risk to overcome.
He cared for you too much to ever run the risk of scaring you off. He’d come up with dozens of reasons to justify never telling you his hearts greatest desire.
He was the Kazekage and if you were to be with him that would make you a target, on top of that being the Kazekage ate up his life he simply didn’t have the time you deserved to give to you. He knew next to nothing about the world of romantic love and he’s sure he wouldn’t be able to tend to you in the ways you would need. Emotionally and Physically.
The only person he’d ever breathed a word of his feeling for you to was Kankuro. He’d opened up to him when he didn’t understand what he was feeling and Kankuro had been the one to tell him he was in love.
And Kankuro knew something that was clear to nearly everyone else besides Gaara. You loved his back. It was so desperately clear, Kankuro would never understand how you two were so oblivious.
Kankuro wasn’t about to let the love of his little brothers life slip away and he knew there was nothing he could tell Gaara to convince him confess and certainly nothing he could do physically to make him tell you.
So Kankuro himself just told you.
Finding out Gaara was just as in love with you as you were with him made your heart sing and before you knew it your feet were moving.
It wasn’t unusual for you to visit Gaara in his office, the guards let you by without so much as a glance but it was however very unusual for you to just go in without knocking first.
The sudden intrusion startled him and left you a little flustered as you realized you’d barged in here without thinking of what to say.
His first reaction made sense, he stood up from his chair and asked. “Are you hurt?” “No.” “In danger?” “No.” “Do you require something?” “No.”
Every no just confused him even further as he stared at you and settled on being quiet, he sat back down slowly and patiently waited. Surely you’d tell him what was going on if he gave you the chance.
Your face got hot in the quiet as you desperately tried to think but the thumping of your heart weighed out any rational thoughts.
So without a plan you walked over to him.
He watched you with careful eyes, unsure of what had come over you, nothing dangerous but the look in your eyes and your flushed face left him grasping for answers.
He instead got a question as you rounded his desk to stand beside him.
“Wanna go on a date?”
It was all you could think of.
He stared at you wide eyed for a moment, for once his monotone stoic voice failing him. You were asking him on a date? Did that mean…?
You offered out your hand as your heart started to beat with panic instead of excitement.
He slowly reached over and took your hand in his as his answer since his heart seemed to be caught in his throat. His entire body felt warm in a way that was very different than the desert heat. He got up, paperwork completely forgotten and his undivided attention on you.
A rare smile slowly appearing on his face as you laced your fingers with his…and now maybe he could pinpoint when he’d fallen deeply in love with you.
Kankuro
Year’s of dealing with his once unstable little brother and the harsh demands of the Sand Village Shinobi would make one think that Kankuro was unshakable, that it would’ve given him nerves of steel and in battle there was no question about that. But here? Standing in front of your house? He could be mistaken for a quivering child.
His feelings weren’t new to him. He’d been aware of his ever growing crush on you for a long time now.
He hadn’t even been bashful about his flirting. He complimented and teased you nearly daily.
And every time you’d throw your head back and laugh, hit his arm and tell him cut it out between giggles.
Every time he’d join you in laughing but there would be a slight sting to his ego as you lightheartedly rejected his compliments.
He knew it wasn’t out of malice, outside of the battle field he wasn’t sure if you even had a mean bone in your body so he never pressed his compliments any further.
Until today.
He’d been out with Temari when he spotted you. Talking to a couple of nobody low level Shinobi…laughing…hitting their shoulders like you hit his and hopelessness wrecked his stomach.
“How many times have I told you that you’re not the only one who noticed that Y/N is a great catch?” Temari asked.
She knew she had to say something to light a fire under her brothers ass since he’d let all her friendly advise go in one ear and straight out the other. She sometimes wondered if there was anything in that head of his.
Her words turned the hopelessness in his stomach into pure and unbridled jealousy.
Left with no rational thoughts he marched over to you and threw his arm around your shoulders, demanding your attention.
You were happy to see him but a little wary of the attitude he seemed to be toting.
“Hey, Y/N I was just looking for you, come on.” He said completely ignoring the people you’d been talking to, trying to pull you away from them.
“Wow, it is important? I was talking to–” “Anything is more important than talking to these two punks.” He laughed.
But you didn’t find it funny at all.
You moved his arm from around you and shoved him off. “What’s your problem?” You demanded.
“My problem?” He scoffed. “I don’t have a problem! These two punks do! Can’t you see the way they’re looking at you? Come on, I know you’re not stupid.”
Embarrassed and angry you didn’t say anything. You just left.
There was that hopelessness. Back in full swing. Making him realize every jealousy fueled word he said was beyond idiotic…oh no, what’d he done?
“You know that was impressively stupid…did you think at all that entire time?” Temari asked. Making sure her brother got the message in case it had somehow escaped him how stupid he’d been.
It hadn’t escaped him at all.
The entire day his heart was dangling by his feet, any time he started to feel anything else his psyche reminded him of his mistake and a whole knew wave of distress would wash over him.
He tried to distract himself with work but only felt worse when he stumbled onto the puppet he was helping you build. It was crude at best and instead of a menacing face it had a goofy one you’d decorated with his purple face paint.
And as memories of your friendship were brought to the forefront of his mind he knew he couldn’t just sit around and risk losing his best friend.
So here he was, terrified of explaining himself to you. Terrified of not only losing a romantic relationship with you but maybe even your friendship.
He took a deep breath and knocked on your door but when you answered it his deep breath was shot right out of him, his confidence barely standing an inch tall. And all the words he’d thought of were gone.
“Wow, Temari was right, you look terrible.” You teased nodding a little.
“What?” He could’ve hit himself for such a dumbfounded response.
“Temari came by…said she couldn’t stand your loud melancholy moping any longer.”
And he froze up as he thought of all the things Temari could’ve told you. Was his secret out? Did you hate him?
“You know, usually you just ask a girl out on a date maybe get her some flowers. Being a tool isn’t really the best way to go about it.” And there wasn’t any anger in your tone, it was soft if not a bit teasing.
A smile grew on his face as he realized what you were saying. His heart racing and his confidence sky rocketing as he asked. “So dinner?”
Temari
How had this happened? One day you were her fellow Kunoichi, woman in arms, best friend and now…the love of her life?
It hit her like a kunai to the chest.
You two were just sitting in her room, painting each others toe nails, laughing and enjoying a room that wasn’t filled with testosterone.
It felt like a safe space where neither of you had to be tough to prove yourselves has hardened Kunoichi. You just got to be yourselves.
And who knew her better than you? No one.
You’d been best friends for what like felt like forever, you’d been there for her through everything. Someone she could count on and talk to no matter what. You’d just always been there with warm open arms.
All her secrets she knew were safe with you so when you asked the simple question. “Got a crush on anyone?” It shouldn’t have rocked her world the way it did.
She even laughed at the question at first. “I don’t know.” She giggled. “Come on, you’ve gotta have a crush on someone.” You further prodded
“I don’t even know if I’ve ever had a crush on someone, I’m way too busy with missions.” She insisted.
“So there’s no one that makes your heart skip a beat? No one that when you look at them the world gets quiet and it all makes sense? No one that makes you feel safe? No one you look at and go ‘Gods you’re a gift.’?” You teased.
She froze up as she thought through the questions and all the answers were the same: You.
You saw the way she froze up, words dying in her throat as she looked away from you. “You alright?”
You reached over to rub her shoulder but she hit your hand away. “Don’t touch me.” Her words were harsh and laced with venom.
“What?” “In fact get out, leave” “What?!” “I said leave!”
And so you left…unbeknownst to her you took her heart with you.
She felt psychically ill, her stomach ached and her head throbbed as she tried to make sense of all the emotions that clashed inside of her.
The clash of raw emotions however never had a victor as she swallowed down her feelings, refusing to be some fussy, dramatic teenage girl. No, never. She refused to be ruled by her emotions
The only way to keep her feelings from overwhelming her was to stay as far away from you as possible. Demanding Gaara change her mission partner from you to anyone else, dodging your favourite restaurant, the training grounds, anywhere you two had memories she refused to go.
But she couldn’t escape her own room. No matter how many missions she went on eventually she ended up at home. Where her heart ached.
She pushed it all down though, letting her stoic and cold shell keep her together…keep her safe from love and all it’s aches.
Or so she thought.
Who would’ve guessed that nail polish would be the rock hurtled at her that would shatter her glass exterior?
Painful tears gave her no choice as they rolled down her face as she looked at the last bits of chipped black polish on her toes. The last thing you two had ever done together.
Without you it felt like there was no one to turn too, no shoulder for her to rest her weary head, no warm inviting arms to hug her pieces back together…no you to speak of.
She couldn’t go to her little brothers. She was the oldest, she wasn’t supposed to break like this, she could never let them see her like this.
But after months of her heart suffering in silence it seemed Hellbent to be heard in the extreme.
It screamed memories at her, leaving her with no choice but to relive them. Memories of you two danced behind her eyelids like a movie she couldn’t turn off.
The time’s you’d put your life on the line for her during missions, when you’d cheered her on at the Chunin exams, the countless hours you’d spent in this very room, when you’d made her a little fan as a joke, your smile and your laughter tormented her aching heart.
But the last straw? The idea that there would be no future memories to make.
She’d lived though so much heartbreak. She’d watched her mother die, her father become a monster, she’d watched as Gaara had gone deeper and deeper into darkness and even as he’d changed and gotten better all this had left scars on her heart…she just didn’t want love to hurt her anymore.
It left her vulnerable and if she was vulnerable she could get hurt.
But where had this plan taken her? Her heart ached in a way it never had before, it cried out so loudly it practically deafened her.
She left her house, desperate to just make it all stop.
Blurred vision didn’t let her see where she was going but her feet carried her to the one place she knew she’d be able to feel better.
Her body practically slammed into the door as she lost sight of her footing, tears robbing her of any semblance of where she was.
Warm arms wrapped around her and there was no mistaking them, no mistaking your embrace.
You’d been so ready to yell at her the next time you saw Temari, give her Hell for everything she’d put you through but seeing her a crying pile at your door in the middle of the night? That all disappeared and all you wanted to do was hug your best friend.
In your arms her heart finally relented and let her feel what love can truly do: Heal.
It would be a long uphill battle but a spark of hope warmed her chest.
Maybe this love wouldn’t break her heart. Maybe love could be for her as long as she was with you.

Hello!! Feel free to ignore this but I Was always interested in how a triangle between Dib, female!reader and Gaz would play out. Like if the Reader was a family friend of Dib and Gaz and they both developed a crush on her? I love your stuff btw, keep it up!!
This ask was a pleasure to write for, Anon!! I would never ignore it, I had such a good time with it. I hope I did okay :)
"Thank you ever so much again, Membrane. It truly means a lot. I'll bring her by Tuesday at one." Your father's voice rang out through the hall to reach your ears where you stood peeking around the corner, more or less spying on the man in an oversized lab coat. Your fingers tightened their grip on the doorframe, digging into the wood.
On one hand, you were able to spend time with your friends that you hadn't seen in a while. On the other, you were hoping to spend some time with your father over the summer. In fact, just this next week you were supposed to go out camping for a couple days. It seemed that would be rescheduled for next year...again. You loved your father deeply, and you were so very proud of him and his science that aided the world, but sometimes you just wished he would be a father. At the very least, it seemed like you would be able to spend some quality time with the two other kids who felt your pain.
"Y/n, honey? Would you come in here for a moment?" Your father called out much louder than needed, but he assumed you were holed up in your room instead of eavesdropping. Putting a smile on your face, you wandered into his office. You had perfected that smile. The one you used to mask whatever disappointment would be brought on by the countless cancelled plans. You had become so skilled in the craft that you were able to hide your tears with a genuine-looking grin when your father declared he was unable to attend your 17th birthday. That had not even been two months ago.
"What's up?" Your voice was as light as a feather, almost as if you had no care in the world. You didn't wish to pick a fight. It wasn't worth it. You barely got to see him as it was, so you wanted every interaction to be as smooth and pleasant as possible.
"I'm really sorry about this, but I'll have to postpone our camping trip to next year." He strode over to you, placing a large hand on your shoulder. You couldn't see his eyes through the strands of unkempt h/c hair that fell in his face, but he sounded as if he was truly upset.
"Oh..." You threw in some slight disappointment, as it was what he expected. Despite killing all of your emotions, you were a master at manipulating them to keep your father satisfied. In response to your attitude shift, he patted your shoulder steadily and pulled his lips back in a goofy grin.
"But don't worry! Despite having to go away for a few weeks on some important science business, I've made some arrangements I think you'll be satisfied with." That smile not once ghosting from his lips, he continued on. "Now I know you'd like to come with me, but this is a project where I can't have any distractions. So, I called up Professor Membrane and asked if you could stay with them for the time being. He agreed!" He looked to you expectantly, waiting for your excitement.
"That's great, dad!" This statement was more genuine, as you were truly looking forward to seeing your friends.
"I know you haven't seen Dib and Gazlene in almost three years, so I'm sure this will give you kids ample time to catch up." Fishing a hand into his pocket, he pulled out a small wallet-sized photo for you to see. It was a picture from years ago, probably one of the first times you met the Membrane kids at some science convention. The three of you stood together, all smiles, even Gaz. Everyone had to be no older than eight then. "Gosh, you were all so young. How old is everyone now? Fourteen? Fifteen?"
"Dib just turned eighteen, Gaz is sixteen. You signed his birthday card, remember?" You couldn't stop your tone from falling at your father's lapse of memory.
"You're right. I apologize." Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, he pushed you towards the door that led into the hallway. "Now, you better get packing. We leave early tomorrow morning." You nodded, shuffling out and into the carpeted hallway. You couldn't help having mixed emotions about the whole ordeal. It was very bittersweet. A little nerve-racking as well. You hadn't seen these two in quite a long time, so you were worried whether or not you could pick up where you left off. Sure, you messaged them often and sent each other gifts on holidays and birthdays, but you vaguely wondered if you could last three or so weeks in the Membrane household without things getting awkward.
-
Clutching your bag tightly in your hands, you couldn't help being livid. You were hoping that, maybe, just maybe, you would be able to spend some quality time with your father on your drive to the Membrane house. But, no. Alas, your father needed to leave almost immediately. To his credit, he did drive you to the airport closest to the town your friends lived in, but instead of taking you all the way there, he pressed enough cash for a cab in your hands and sent you on your merry way. And so there you sat, in the back of a cab on your own, winding through streets that were mostly unfamiliar.
"This neighborhood look right?" The cabby asked as he pulled into the beginning of a vaguely familiar looking neighborhood.
"Um, I think so." You hoped it was right. Worst case scenario you figured you could call Dib and see if he could come pick you up. Staring out the window and watching houses pass by, you drifted into your thoughts. Both your father and Professor Membrane were prestigious scientists who were constantly busy, and when you had moved closer to the Membrane family, you often found yourself playing with the kids while your fathers worked on their science things. As you grew up, you continued to have things in common. Gaz became obsessed with video games, which you enjoyed, although you were never very good at them. Dib became invested in the paranormal, which you had an interest in. You remembered that when he was twelve, a supposed alien moved into his neighborhood and was scheming to conquer the earth or something. Dib talked about him less, but would still bring him up from time to time. You had never seen this alien, but coincidentally, every time you came to visit (which had diminished to about once a year, to eventually once every blue moon with both your father's and your own hellish schedule), this alien kid had always been absent. You were never sure if Dib was just trying to impress you with this tale of an actual alien, or to give you something to talk about, but you supposed it didn't matter.
"We're here, miss." The cab skidded to a halt at the curb in front of a very familiar unique-looking house. You knew you were in the right place. Placing your cash in the payment slot, you stepped out onto the sidewalk with your bag as the cab pulled away and vanished from sight. You thought it was a bit odd that no one was outside. Normally when you would come, the kids would wait on the porch, eager for your arrival. The house looked quiet, and you felt your stomach sink. If this set the tone for the rest of the visit, you were in for a long few weeks. Sucking in a deep breath through gritted teeth you pressed the doorbell. After a moment of nothing, you felt your stomach churning as every muscle tensed. You were beyond uneasy. Just as you were about to turn around and walk to the nearest motel, the front door swung open to reveal a young man who you thought was most likely Dib.
"Y/n?" You felt a grin split your face as you dropped your bag, practically jumping into his arms. He wrapped you in a hug, arms tight around you. After a moment he released you, setting you back on the ground. A silence was still hovering over you, however it was not uncomfortable. You took the opportunity to rake your eyes down his form, absolutely stunned by the difference three years makes.
"Wow, Dib...you're tall." You almost had to crane your neck up to meet his eyes. He probably stood a good few inches above six feet, which was a large jump from the last time you saw him. He had probably only been 5'10'', if that. His dark hair was virtually the same, if anything it had only gotten longer. You couldn't help but let out a chuckle at his classic trench coat and large glasses that took up a majority of his face. "The piercings are new." You pointed a finger to his ears, where black gauges rested in his earlobes.
"I mean, kind of? I've had them for probably a year now."
"Oh." Your eyes fell to the concrete of the porch. Scuffling your feet, you just wanted to skip past the awkward reunion phase and get back into having a good time.
"You can come in, you know." He laughed, the sound relaxing you instantly. You scooped up your bag on the ground, following him inside. The house hadn't changed much, if at all. Dib gestured towards the couch, and the next thing you knew both of you were sitting down. You dropped your bag at your feet, and Dib couldn't help but eye it. "So, what's with the bag?" He jabbed it lightly with his foot, and you couldn't stop your jaw from clenching as you cringed. You were always unable to mask your emotions around these kids. You were never sure what it was about them, but they were the only ones you couldn't put on a face for. Maybe it was because they truly understood the things you were going through, so there was no need. You would never know.
"You don't know...? My dad has some important foreign business so I'm staying with you guys for a few weeks. Did your dad not tell you?" You wrung your hands together, gripping the inside of your cheek with your teeth. "If that's not okay, I can always use my card at a motel or something..."
"Of course it's okay. I was just caught of guard is all." Dib pulled you into another hug, trying his best to reassure you that he wanted you there more than anything. "Besides, it's not like we're strangers. We still talk. I, um, appreciate that more than you know." A chuckle spilled from his lips as his voice grew quieter with every word. "I didn't think we'd see you again." You thought you caught a faint blush settling on his cheeks, although it could have been a trick of the light.
"Yeah, me either. Shit got busy."
"I hear that." Dib let out a sigh, sinking back into the couch. Just as a silence began to take hold, the front door was thrown open.
"Dib, god damnit I called your phone like five times but you didn't pick up-" Gaz entered the room, but cut her own words off as she caught sight of your figure sitting next to her brother on the couch. "Y/n?" The usually gloomy girl perked up, setting the grocery bags she was holding down onto the floor. A smile crept onto your face as you rose from your seat on the couch, bringing her into a hug. You expected her to resist like she usually did, but she defied your expectation. "Ugh, no need to get all mushy." Gaz grumbled, but you had known her long enough to know that based on her tone, she was genuinely happy to see you.
"Nice to see you too, Gazzie."
"Well, you're still annoying as ever." Huffing, she picked up the bags and walked towards the kitchen. "You going to help me, or do I have to drag you over here by your toes, Dib?" She called sharply, Dib silently groaning as he slid further into the couch, almost falling off.
"I got it." Following your friend into the kitchen, you began to help her put away groceries. Most of it was soda, chips, and other junk food, however there were some healthy items in there.
"We haven't seen you in years." Her tone was much softer with you, unlike the razor sharp tongue she saved for her brother. You took a look at her, she had changed a bit too. Her fashion was still the same goth aesthetic, completed by chokers and heavy combat boots, but like Dib, she had gotten taller. She hadn't grown nearly as much, but enough to be a noticeable difference. The one striking thing about her was that her once long hair had been chopped quite short, and you noticed that it was in that awkward stage where it was long enough to where it repeatedly fell in her eyes, but too short to be tucked behind her ear. She was constantly brushing purple locks out of her face as she worked.
"I know. Like I told Dib, things just got busy." Placing the last can of soda in the fridge, you wandered back over to her, smiling despite her straight face. "I like your hair by the way. It suits you." Taking a chunk between your fingers, you twirled the strands, shocked when she didn't swat your hand away.
"Thanks..." Her face became painted in red, and after a moment you took your hand away.
"I'm surprised you haven't tried to hit me yet...absence really does make the heart grow fonder." Before any other words could be exchanged, the front door slammed open yet again. This time, Professor Membrane himself stepped in with several meals from the local Krazy Taco and a big container of ice cream.
"Hello, kids! I have brought dinner!" His voice was filled with excitement as he brought the food into the kitchen where you stood at the counter with Gaz.
"It's like, two in the afternoon?" Dib called from the living room, pushing himself off the couch to wander into the kitchen as well.
"Hush now, boy-child. I wanted to eat with you since it's a special occasion, and this is the only time in my schedule available. So dinner is now!" He hummed in delight as he placed the food in their spots at the table. "It's great to see you, Y/n."
"You too." You took your seat, digging into the food without complaint. The Membrane kids followed suit, each taking a chair on your side. You all ate together, giving life updates, listening to the Professor talk about his current projects, cracking jokes. All the while, you felt yourself slip back into the dynamic you had missed so much. You couldn't ignore the glances both Dib and Gaz would send your way, and any time you would catch their eyes, they would both very quickly drop their gaze to their food. However, you chopped it up to something that would stop after a day or so. After all, you were doing the same thing, unable to believe how much they had changed in the past three years.
After a half hour or so, Professor Membrane stood up, throwing his trash away and cleaning up his area. "I have to go back to work. Y/n, you can share Gaz's room if you'd like." You nodded, clearing your own spot as his kids said their goodbyes.
-
"Could we please watch something else?" Gaz groaned as she continued to stare at her Game Slave on her side of the couch, fingers flying across the controls faster than you could track.
"Hey, it's a new episode! Besides, Y/n likes Mysterious Mysteries." Dib countered, keeping the controller close to him. He sat on your other side, and you were caught smack dab in the middle of their bickering. It wouldn't have been the first time that night. They seemed to be worse together than you remembered.
"Do you really?" Gaz looked up from her game for the first time in the past hour.
"Well, yeah, sure." You shrank back into the couch, not liking how you had been put on the spot. You just wanted to spend time with both of them without them picking fights with one another. Was that too much to ask?
"Fine. But after this, I'm changing the channel. There's supposed to be some good horror movies on tonight." Gaz turned her attention back to her Game Slave, only backing down for your sake. Otherwise, she would have taken that controller by force.
The Mysterious Mysteries episode began, although halfway through, you began to get bored. You didn't remember the show segments being so terrible, but you didn't think you could listen to any more of the legend of Goat Man, a man who supposedly had supernatural abilities to control the minds of goats (in reality it was just some hippie who fed his goats so many treats that they followed him everywhere).
"Was Mysterious Mysteries always so...bad?" Your eyes drifted to Dib, who without protest, surrendered the remote to you.
"No. But this is why paranormal investigators get a bad rep." Crossing his arms, Dib puffed out his cheeks, pouting. You couldn't help but crack a grin. He had been making that pouty face for years. Some things never change. You passed the remote to Gaz, who finally put down her Game Slave to put on a horror movie.
"Finally, some good tv." Gaz set the remote next to her, relaxing into the cushions of the couch.
As the movie went on, you realized that you didn't like horror movies as much as you thought you did. One particularly loud jumpscare caused every muscle in your body to tense, and subconsciously, you sidled up next to Dib, grabbing at the fabric of his coat with your hands as you leaned into him. He felt grateful that the room was dark, or else you would have seen the mad blush on his face. You weren't really looking at anything anymore, rather you had your face buried in Dib's side. He put an arm around you, trying to rub comforting circles into your arm, despite his stomach feeling as if it was tied in ten thousand knots.
"Gaz, maybe we should watch something else." Dib suggested, using maximum effort to keep his voice steady. All he had wanted for the past year or so was to hold you like this, but now he couldn't even feel good about it since you were uncomfortable and scared. Truth was, he had fallen hard for you after you had began texting all the time the past couple years. Well, he guessed that he had probably been harboring these feelings for much longer than that, but he only realized it when he hadn't been able to see you.
"But it's almost over." Gaz whined, glaring daggers at Dib all the while. Without another word, she laid her head in your lap, not liking Dib getting all of your attention. Your hand reached out to find hers, taking it in your own and gripping it as if it were a lifeline.
"Gaz-"
"It's fine. I'll be fine." You interrupted Dib, face still buried in his side. Gaz would still try and glare in Dib's direction. She normally would bicker with him on the regular, but this animosity she felt towards him in that moment was of a new sort. She felt your legs tense underneath her every time there was a loud noise, and whenever that happened, she would feel a pang of guilt for putting you through this. She decided to focus on the way your hand felt in her own. It felt almost natural, and she admittedly never wanted to let go. While your face was still avoiding seeing anything until the film was over, Dib glanced down at his sister, and saw that look in her eyes. He knew his sister like he knew every corner of Zim's base (which by this point, was very well). Enough to know that she was in love. For probably the first, and possibly only time in her life. Under different circumstances, he would encourage her in her romantic endeavors, but of course, the one she had to like was coincidentally also the girl he had feelings for.
Dib had no more time to think on the matter, as the movie finally drew to a close, and Gaz turned off the tv. You untucked yourself from Dib, Gaz sitting up to allow you to stretch.
"Sorry. You both probably think I'm a little bitch." You laughed half-heartedly, just wanting to go to sleep and forget that ever happened.
"Don't worry about it." Dib's lips quirked up in a slight smile, hoping to come off as comforting.
"Yeah, Dib's done plenty of embarrassing things anyway." Gaz smirked, elbowing you gently in the side.
"Hey!"
"Besides, I still think you're cool." Gaz's words were quiet, and her face was dusted in pink, though you were unable to tell due to the darkness of the room.
"Thanks, Gazzie."
As if by freak accident, something in the kitchen fell from the counter, making a loud noise that echoed through the house as it collided with the floor. You just about jumped out of your skin, yelping as you did so.
Your face in your hands to hide your cringing, your words came out muffled. "Do you mind if we sleep out here for tonight? All of us?"
"Sure." The Membrane kids spoke together, shuffling off to grab blankets and pillows while you sat on the couch, cursing yourself for your irrational fears. You knew it was just a movie, but you were still terrified regardless. They came back quickly, throwing their stuff down on the floor.
"I brought you a pillow and a blanket." Gaz pushed a fluffy blanket and a pillow over to you. Opening your mouth to give your thanks, you were stopped by Dib.
"But I brought you that too." The two glared at each other, fists and teeth clenched, seemingly caught in some deadlock that you had been left out of.
"She doesn't want your gross blanket, Dib! If it came from your room, it's definitely disgusting!" Gaz shoved her brother, Dib stumbling backwards a few steps. His eyes narrowed, he shoved her back, harder. She fell into the couch, all but growling at him.
"Guys! I'll just use both!" You waved your hands frantically, barring them from each other with your arms. "Thank you, both of you." Your words seemed to deescalate the situation for the meantime, though even you could still feel the electric tension that was in the room. You knew this was much more than typical sibling rivalry, and were worried that you would get caught in the middle. What you didn't know is that you were already caught in the web, that you had been from the moment you stepped foot inside the Membrane household. "Is something going on that I should be aware of?" You asked as you laid out your blankets and pillows, sitting down on your spot on the floor.
"It's nothing!" The siblings blurted at the same time, prepping their sleep space as well. Shaking your head in bewilderment, you laid down, the pair following suit, one on either side of you. You let your eyes flutter closed, feeling much safer with Dib and Gaz by your side.
With one final staredown with Gaz, Dib scooted as close to you as he dared. What he wanted most was to reach out and hold your hand, but was too afraid to do so. Gaz was much more bold, cuddling right up to you and intertwining her fingers with yours. You peeled an eye open and looked to her, but didn't pull away. Dib muttered a curse under his breath, screwing his eyes shut and keeping his frustrations with his sister to himself.
-
You had all drifted into a heavy sleep rather quickly, Gaz and Dib's expressions softening from irritated to peaceful. At about two thirty in the morning, Professor Membrane had come back from the lab, much, much later than he had intended, dead tired. He almost stumbled over the three teenagers deep in slumber on the living room floor. That snapped him to his senses, and his normally serious expression ebbed away to one that was more loving at the sight.
You were wedged in the middle, Gaz tucked cutely into your side, hand still in yours. Dib had drifted closer to you in his sleep, his head on your chest, legs tangled in your own, hand laid across you protectively.
Professor Membrane chuckled to himself quietly, snapping a quick picture with his phone before he retreated to his own room to get as many hours of sleep as his schedule would allow.

"Please don't tell me you're going to order the milkshake, Y/N." Sam rested his head on his arm, watching me as I grinned widely.
"Of course I am. That's the best part about this diner." I placed the menu down and sighed, "Especially after Stiles ditched me today, I kind of need it."
Dean grunted, "Whatever. You act like you didn't just see him."
"For your information, I haven't seen him in over a week."
"Boo-hoo."
Sam nudged Dean on his arm, "Give her a break dude. A week is a pretty long time, we solved two cases since."
"Well if you're such a sob, why don't you surprise him and drop by?" Dean let out a suggestion, which really wasn't a bad idea.
Except for the fact that I didn't know what he was doing. I don't want to visit him unexpectedly and see Stiles freaking out for some reason.
Seeing the worried expression on my face, Sam let out a breath. "Don't think too much into it. If he ditches you again or doesn't try to text you, just start asking questions."
"Haha, make him squirm. I love that." Dean laughed.
I starred at my oldest brother and rolled my eyes. It pissed me off that Dean always joked around with my misery. Scooting off the booth, I got out of my seat. "I'm going to go order my milkshake now."
Sam and Dean started bickering from behind as they fought about me and my attitude. Ignoring them, I continued to walk towards the counter.
As I was waiting by the counter, I noticed a wallet sitting there unintended. It was familiar but I didn't think too deep into it. The waitress that was behind the counter smiled as I handed the wallet.
She flipped the wallet, looking inside to identify the person by their ID. "Mi.. Miec... Stilinski... Wow the first name i-"
"Wait, can I see the ID please? I think I know the person." I kindly asked, hoping that she would show me the card.
As she flashed the ID at me, I immediately knew who it belonged to. It wasn't like I didn't know it was Stiles' the moment the waitress tried to pronounce his name. I just had to make sure it was really his drivers license.
"Seems like you know him... The look in your face says so. Are you alright?" The waitress was really friendly, which was why I loved this diner.
"Uhh yeah. A close friend of mine, actually. Mind if I give it to him?" It probably came off as sketchy but this could be an excuse to go see him, as pathetic as that sounded.
"I trust you, go ahead." She smiled as she wiped off the counter. "Worse case, Stilinski comes back and I remember your face."
A giggle escaped my mouth, the waitress laughing with me also. "You're right. Thank you."
Gripping the wallet tightly, I sat back down to the booth next to Sam.
"So chocolate? Cookie and Cream? Vanilla?"
"Huh?" I questioned Sam, looking puzzled as I starred at the wallet. Nothing really made sense to why my boyfriend's wallet was here.
Maybe I was thinking too much of it; Was he here by himself? Perhaps with a girl? Stiles knew this diner was my favorite place to eat at. I sounded like a crazy girlfriend but there was nothing but doubt on my mind.
"Stop doing that overthinking crap, don't worry." Dean said before taking a huge bite off of his burger.
Opening the wallet once again, I starred at Stiles' picture on his license. He was too sweet to mess around with other girls, I knew that much. Or did I?
I checked the pockets to see if I can find anything; There was just a condom, some cash and few receipts. Picking up the first receipts that was crumpled up between ten dollar bills, I read it to see if there was perhaps any clues.
"I'll be in the car." My heart dropped as I re-crumpled the receipt back into Stiles' wallet and stormed out the door.
Sam followed me outside. "Y/N, Y/N!"
"Stiles was here this morning!" I started crying, I honestly was exhausted from having him in my mind all the time. "He was just here..."
"Okay, okay. Let's go home okay? We'll talk about it at home."
----
"That fucking prick!" Dean slammed the front door as we got into the house. "Call him here, now!"
Sam walked over to Dean, "Hey calm down. We don't know anything yet. The only thing we know for sure is that he was at the diner."
"You better punch him in the face or I will, Y/N." Dean huffed, pacing back and forth.
"He's on his way..." I mumbled, turning off my phone as I checked my text from Stiles. "... After I told him it's an emergency."
Dean shook his head, "I'm fuming. Funny how now he wants to show up."
"I'm glad you're mad at him for me, Dean but I need to do this on my own okay?"
He nodded, his face clearly stated that he was beyond pissed. I looked at both my brothers, "I'll be upstairs in my room."
The sound of footsteps followed me from behind but I heard it stop as Sam mumbled something under his breath. I suppose Dean tried to come with me, which was refreshing because that meant my brothers were really looking out for me.
Sitting on my bed for about five minutes, I heard a knock on my door. Stiles came in with a nervous look on his face, "Long time no see."
"And who is it to blame?" I didn't bring him here to be petty, it was just that all my anger and confusing had me going crazy.
"I'm sorry, Y/N." Stiles closed the door behind him and approached the bed. "I've been busy."
"You were so busy you forgot your wallet." I smiled sarcastically, lightly throwing his wallet towards his chest as he caught it. "Guess where I found it?"
Stiles put his wallet away into his pocket, sighing. "The last place I remember seeing it was at the diner."
Curling my lips, I starred at him. I didn't know what else to say anymore. I was scared of what his answer was going to be if I asked him.
"You ditched me today to go to a diner, with who?"
"I went by myself."
That was a lie. "Do you want to try again?"
"Y/N, I was by myself."
"You have a receipt in your wallet and you ordered food and drinks for two people!" My tone was louder and much angrier. "If you're lying about going to the fucking diner by yourself, I can assume that you were with some girl."
Stiles stood still, he was emotionless. His mouth was opened, figuring out what he should say to somewhat make me feel better.
“So am I right?” I shouted at him, dying to know the answer at this point. It was frustrating seeing him freeze, I knew he was guilty.
“I don’t know what to say...” Stiles murmured.
Tears immediately flooded down my face as he confirmed my assumptions. Everything was true, I wasn’t being paranoid. This time however, I wish I wasn’t right because my heart felt like it was crushed into billions of pieces.
“What about an apology for starters? You don’t even have an excuse to defend yourself?!” I shoved him, having mixed feelings between anger and sadness.
“Y/N, I am sorry and I don’t have an excuse for any of this. What I did was wrong, I’m truly sorry.”
“Why did you keep this from me?”
Dean and Sam rushed into my room, they must of heard banging from when I pushed Stiles. Being occupied, I honestly didn’t think it was loud at all.
“You can show yourself out.” Sam spoke in a deep voice as he pointed towards the door. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so furious like this before.
“Not so fast, buddy.” Dean pulled Stiles in, grabbing him by his collar. He swung his arm behind and landed his fist into Stiles’ cheek.
“Dean!” I screamed, kneeling down next to Stiles after he fell to the floor.
The oldest brother huffed, “What you’re defending this asshole?”
“Of course not! Dean, I told you I’m taking care of this myself.” After helping Stiles off of the floor, I pulled him downstairs all the way to my front door.
“Thanks.” Stiles sighed. “Your brother would’ve killed me.”
“As much as I want that, I know for sure he would kill you and I can’t have Dean in prison forever.” I bit my lips and looked at him. There was already a bruise forming on his left cheek, I hate that I still cared that he was hurt. “Make sure you ice that, I’m sure your new girlfriend will be glad to help you.”
Stiles shook his head, “Can we talk about this? It was a mistake and I love you. Y/N, I want you and not her.”
“Goodbye, Stiles.” Seeing his sad and beat up face made it hard to close the door on him but it had to be done. As I locked the door, the tears continued to stream down.
“Y/N.” I heard Sam’s soft voice from behind. Quickly turning around, I jumped onto him and started to cry into his chest.
“I’m so sorry, kiddo.” He stroked my head, hugging me tightly.
Dean walked from behind Sam, “Hey, I didn’t mean to punch Stiles. It was just a reaction and I know you said you wanted to do it on your own bu-”
“No, thank you for being there for me. I’ll always need you even if I deny it sometimes.” I reached my arm, inviting Dean into the hug. “Besides, he deserved it.”
“I’ll always be there for you, champ.” Dean squeezed me tightly. “And honestly, we’re the only men that should be in your life.”
“Uh-huh.” I looked at both my brothers and smiled.

Top 5 Persona Characters?
oh i’m so glad you sent this ask!! for this, i’ll try not to include any of the protagonists because they technically don’t have a canon personality; their personalities are mostly widely known fan inferences rooting from their dialogue options and overall attitude (which i also believe as well,, but yeah we’ll just not include them in. plus let’s just have the other characters shine!). keep in mind, i really am not the best with putting my thoughts into words, so some sentences might seem kinda funky lol. and everything here is my opinion :]
1) yosuke hanamura (persona 4)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sometimes, it saddens me that people view his character from the surface level and are quick to renounce him as homophobic and pervy. to add fuel to the flame, atlus kind of flanderizes yosuke’s character in golden and the animation (trust me, i love the animation and they did add some parts for yosuke that i love, but you gotta admit they could’ve done his character a bit more justice). of course yosuke’s flaws should be recognized and be critiqued, but honestly, these flaws are what make yosuke yosuke. removing those things, in ways, takes away from the 3 dimensional-ness of his character.
i feel that it was made clear what his “stereotypical role” was going to be in the story from his easily perceived surface personality traits. some of these traits were his recklessness, competitiveness and the fact that he was constantly being dunked on by the other characters, making him seem like just the comic relief. but throughout the story, you find out he’s more than that (which i will talk more in detail a little later). most prominently known by fans, there is the “bro” aspect to him. in this game, yu is the one who has to walk up to people and ask them to hang out, but yosuke is the only one of all the characters who takes the initiative to get to know yu. he nicknames you partner, constantly calls you on the phone at night, and always kind of asks you questions and says things to get a reaction out of you. from this, a natural friendship between blossoms and you feel like you get know really know yosuke personally. you learn that he’s actually very strategic and intelligent, incredibly loyal and cares deeply about his friends, and is overwhelmingly insecure and repressed. okay, we have to talk about this part. he seems closeted, and that can be the reasoning on why he sometimes makes homophobic remarks. i do think it’s a shame that his romance route was scrapped when it obviously was far in development. for some, the bro aspect can super fixated on and might be one of the only reasons why someone likes yosuke. this sadly kind of subconsciously fetishizes their relationship. of course that’s not the case all the time! but it’s something to be mindful of. even looking past the souyo ship (which i love deeply!), they are such great friends platonically, and yosuke himself is such a great character. throughout the story, he matures and develops into someone more humble, thoughtful and appreciative. from the moment he first showed up on screen, i kind of had a feeling he was going to be my favorite. and it’s kind of crazy how much i grew fond of him over time and realized the impact his character made on me.
2) elizabeth (persona 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
elizabeth is so underrated, and i speak that from the bottom of my heart. she is so hilariously naive and funky, while also being one of the most powerful and intelligent persona characters. the way you are first introduced to her are through fulfilling her requests in the velvet room. as you fulfill her requests, you’re kind like, “you want me to do that,, really?” she tells you to bring her oil?? for some reason? and to feed a cat so it can prosper forever and ever? those are just some things i can think of at the top of my head. from these requests, you kind of get a peak at her funny weirdness and you’re just like “okay you’re weird but i like you.” and when you get to take her on dates (but i just see them as hangouts :]), you are essentially helping her make new experiences of the world outside of the velvet room and get into a lot of wacky hijinks. with this, her endearing weirdness and naivety really starts to shine, making you fall in love with the character. so now you’re like “wow, you’re really weird i love you lol.” her funny weirdness also translates to her dance style in persona 3 dancing, which i absolutely  love. it really encapsulates that side of her character accurately (and you gotta admit she’s got some cool funky moves).
beyond the funny side of her, you find out how truly powerful she is as a being. she can wield thanatos, which was only previously held by someone with the universe arcana), and is unfathomably strong as she is one of the harder boss fights in the entire series. it is also important to note that she is also very determined and i found it bittersweetly heartwarming that she is still mourning over makoto/minato(i nicknamed him virgin walk)’s death years afterward (as seen in persona 4 arena) and that she is dedicating herself to free his soul that is bound to the door of death. she misses her dear friend, and i just really love that she threw caution to the wind and went on this journey to try to find a way to resolve something that is seemingly impossible. and she is still doing it to this day, into the persona 5 timeline (because persona 5 royal shows that minato/makoto/virginwalk is still bound to the door). persona 3 happens in 2009 and persona 5 happens in 20XX (which is assumed to be 2016). it has almost been a decade. i truly think it’s in her character to keep searching for a way to free him no matter how long it takes. with all aspects of her personality in mind, i love her character with my whole heart.
3) yukiko amagi (persona 4)

if i’m completely honest, yukiko was not one of my favorite characters at the time i played persona 4. i was one of the many people who overlooked her character because the others pretty much outshine her. because she is introduced in the beginning as the first dungeon, you start to put her towards the background once kanji, rise and naoto are introduced. from the surface, the first impression of her is “okay, i guess her quirk is that she laughs a lot?” i initially thought this too, but thinking more about it, i began liking that about her, and with more thought, i realized that i liked other things about her character as well. her sense of humor is so dumb? she laughs at lame stuff and fixates on things in conversation that just make you go “uhh okay,,, yukiko??” i think i opened my eyes to this when i was playing her story in persona 4 arena. i found it so hilarious that she fixated on the quality of the box lunch she prepared for everyone out of all the things happening, and that her whole arc in that game revolved around how bad it was (putting it into simpler terms). i also really think its funny how blunt she is too. she’s ready to shoot people down, and most of the time, it’s unintentional.
and other than her quirks, i kind of like how her arc developed in the game. i know that many people saw that the end of her arc as “wrong” because they were expecting the usual resolution to problems similar to hers. they expected her to “follow her heart and pick freedom” if she feels trapped in her role as an innkeeper when she inherits her family’s inn in the future. but that wasn’t the point. i actually kind of like that she ultimately chooses to stay. in her social link, she decides to stay in inaba and to run the inn because it’s her own choice. she chose this out of her own will and that’s the only thing that mattered; no one else is forcing her to inherit the business and she decides that’s what she wants. i also really like that the animation showed the responsibilities and hard work she has to go through at the inn; it was a nice touch and really displayed how responsible she was and how much she prioritizes and dedicates her time at the inn. although she is responsible, she is not necessarily the “mom-friend” of the group. she can be a bit crazy like everyone else too. honestly the whole investigation team runs rabid because there is no mom-friend to keep them in check (persona 3 has mitsuru and persona 5 has makoto). anyway, really taking the time to think about yukiko’s character made me love her.
4) yusuke kitagawa (persona 5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay, this is going to be very straightforward, but i think that yusuke was one of the most enjoyable parts of persona 5. i loved whenever he was on screen,, he’s super eccentric and i find it so funny to see the whole starving-artist thing taken literally. he’s definitely awkward but is trying his best! he definitely has the most stage presence compared to the other phantom thieves. the other members are pushed to the background whenever he speaks. he’s dramatic and over the top, but somehow this hilarious absurdity is relatable.
other than the tendency to steal the show, his social link is more focused on his own development and his own personal growth. whereas, with the other characters, it kind of focuses on the character and the people they associate with outside the phantom thieves. for yusuke, in comparison, it’s much more personal. you travel around with him to help him to figure out what the aspects of the human heart are and to help him get out of his artistic slump after opening his eyes to the abuse he went through with madarame. he originally had a narrow perspective but overtime he learns to broaden it. i just really like how the social link plays out, it was really satisfying. and i just love how genuine and sincere he is as he is always doing things out of pure intentions. it’s also so admirable to see how much passion he has for the things he loves. yusuke, with certainty, is one of my favorite phantom theives.
5) yuuki mishima (persona 5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mishima is such an important and underrated character in persona 5. mishima throughout the whole game has been nothing but nice to you, even with akira/ren’s reputation. sure, he can be awkward and can be seen as overbearing to some, but he’s always had his heart in the right place. i’ve kind of always liked his dumb awkwardness and seeing how he’s trying hard to be our friend (it’s a shame our dialogue options toward him are always kinda mean but hopefully he sees it as teasing). he is so crucial to the story because honestly, he’s the one who got the ball rolling by creating the phansite, and that phansite actually helped so many people. he, himself, doesn’t even get recognition for making the site, he just really believed in the phantom thieves and wanted to help them in the ways he could. he did have an arc to humble himself after getting hungry for fame, but in the end he changed his own heart with his own will (and is the only character to do that!) which is pretty powerful.
i also love that he’s always been a supporter of the phantom thieves no matter what happens and what other people think. when the phantom thieves were being trashed on, he still held onto hope and believed they were doing the right thing (plus him supporting them in those times just proves he wasn’t just doing the phansite for fame!!). another moment that screams this most is toward the end, when everything was in destruction and people were forgetting about the phantom theives in the time literally needed someone to believe in them most. mishima was the only one who still had faith in them and knocked some sense into everyone else. without him there, things could have turned out pretty badly. and i know i’ve heard that some fans wanting him to be a phantom thief himself, but it would just mess with a major part of his character. there’s something about him not completely knowing who the members of the phantom thieves are and him deciding to help with the phansite despite this, you know? yeah i like mishima a lot :))
some honorable mentions are kanji tatsumi (persona 4) and aigis (persona 3)! some of the honorable mentions are characters i like over some others that are on the list but i wanted to make sure i included people from persona 3, 4, 5 (because honestly this list would be persona 4 dominated if i didnt lol).

Otomate Party 2018 Collar x Malice Drama “The Liar’s Paradox”
Tumblr media
Short drama featured in Otopa 2018. No spoilers.
**Please don’t move this translation or claim it as your own.**
Yanagi: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Tokyo, Shinjuku. A population of 330,000. Also known as the sleepless city, it’s now full of an unusually quiet atmosphere. Due to a series of murders, also known as the X-Day incidents, the whole country is being attacked by invisible evil. Even now, the murderer is hiding in the street somewhere, biding their time. Are they laughing at us, or are they mourning, kindled by the fire of hatred? It’s difficult to see the truth right now.
December 8th, 9:08PM.
Yanagi: An arson after a murder, it’s been two days now. It looks like there really is a gap in their plans...
Shiraishi: I knew you’d be here.
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Yanagi: Shiraishi.
Shiraishi: Frowning again. Forget about being called a father, you’re already turning into a grandfather.
Yanagi: Shut it. Has the victim of today's arson been identified?
Shiraishi: Investigating burnt bodies takes time, you know. But it’s pretty much confirmed that they did it.
Yanagi: Then what do you want? Aren’t you busy?
Shiraishi: I saw that girl with the collar at Shinjuku today. She’s doing whatever she can to help by searching for clues. But you don’t seem to have given her any direction to work with.
Yanagi: Let’s see what happens. She’d be in danger if she got too involved with the case.
Shiraishi: The fact is that you don't want to get too involved with her, do you? Even though I don’t know what exactly happened to you before. Well? Why do you care so much about her?
Yanagi: Then, I want to ask something too. Why did the person who put that collar on Hoshino pick her?
Shiraishi: Even if you ask me I can’t answer that.
Yanagi: I asked because it’s you.
Shiraishi: What does that mean?‌ ‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Because I’m a good profiler? Or…?
Yanagi: …
Shiraishi: Keeping quiet at a time like this. Yanagi-kun truly is kind.
Yanagi: Don’t be sarcastic. It’s not that I don’t trust you. It’s just that I don’t feel that there's a point in me continuing to speculate.
Shiraishi: How wise. It’s not just me either. It’s the same for Sasazuka-kun and Enomoto-kun. There is no real trust between us‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌, it’s just a relationship of cooperation.
Yanagi: Exactly.
---
Enomoto: At the end of the day, you're way too nasty. You can't make friends in this way, you’ll die alone!
Sasazuka: Are you a middle school student? If I end up a sporty idiot like you, I might as well spend the rest of my life alone and die.
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Enomoto: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again-- you have SUCH an attitude. Anyways, I’ll never forgive you!
Yanagi: Enomoto, Sasazuka. What is it this time?
Enomoto: Yanagi-senpai, listen to me! That stupid Takeru used my favourite book as a placemat for the pot!
Yanagi: A placemat?
Sasazuka: Ah, Yanagi-san. I got hungry so I used the kitchen for a bit. My bad.
Enomoto: Hey! If you cared about this kind of thing you’d apologise to me!
Shiraishi: Wow, it’s true, the book’s all crumbling. It’s that “100 Heart-jerking Love Confessions” book, right?”
Enomoto: No! It’s the new one, “Heart-Jerking Date Ideas”!
Yanagi: You guys really fight about pointless things every time.
Sasazuka: He was the one who kept on droning on and on.
Shiraishi: Enomoto-kun, this book says that if you mess up a date idea once, you’ll have wasted half your life. Does that mean if you make two mistakes, your life is over? Enomoto-kun, doesn’t that mean you’ll be wasting your afterlife too?
Enomoto: Why’re you deciding that my life is gonna be a failure?!‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
Shiraishi: That’s because… you know.
Sasazuka: It only takes one look at you.
Yanagi: It’s okay, Enomoto. Even if you fail to get a date ten times, your life isn’t going to be over.
Enomoto: You’re not following me at all!
Shiraishi: Anyhow, how do you not get tired of reading these trashy self-inspired books a hundred times? I think it's much more useful to ask people with experience. Those two are perfect.
Sasazuka: Even if we taught him, he wouldn’t be able to use it.
Enomoto: Yanagi-senpai, please teach me how to get a date.
Yanagi: Well… it’s different for everyone.
Shiraishi: I knew it, if Yanagi-kun’s going to talk about this then he’ll definitely say something embarrassing, won’t he? It’s stuff you can’t say in front of other people, right?
Yanagi: Don’t say misleading things like that. Besides, isn't that the only way to make an invitation?
Sasazuka: I can’t really imagine Yanagi-san saying sweet words. How would he ask?
Yanagi: Just… ask normally… Like if she’s free next week or…
Enomoto: O-Oh?! And then…?
Yanagi: A-And if she is… ask her if she wants to see a movie or something.
Enomoto: Why do you look so unconfident?!
Yanagi: When I think about it, I can count the number of times I’ve asked someone out on a date on both hands…
Enomoto: D-Don’t tell me... is this the calmness of a popular guy?!
Yanagi: That’s not what I meant--
Shiraishi: I was getting all excited… it turns out Yanagi-kun has such plain taste. How about you, Sasazuka-kun?
Sasazuka: Just do exactly what Yanagi-san said. It’s the same thing.
Enomoto: ...I’m still super angry but… teach me how to do it!
Sasazuka: “Come to my house tomorrow.”
Enomoto: IT’S NOT THE SAME AT ALL!
Sasazuka: And then, “Make some time tomorrow, I have a place I want to go.”
Enomoto: Why does it have to be tomorrow?! You barely gave her an advance notice!‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
Sasazuka: And if she’s not free then make plans next time.
Shiraishi: Well, that was easy to understand, but is this going to move a girl’s heart?
Yanagi: Hey, don’t look at it like that. Sasazuka’s thinking about the other person too. He only invited them when he knew the other party was free.
Shiraishi: That’s because it would be very inefficient to meet up with her randomly.
Enomoto: Guhh! A guy that can take this so casually…! Fine, fine! What about you, Shiraishi-san---
[Phone buzz]
Yanagi: Ah, it’s mine. ...It’s a message from Okazaki.
Enomoto: Okazaki?! Yanagi-senpai, you exchanged details with him?
Yanagi: Just in case of emergencies. ...But this is…
Okazaki's text: “Even though it’s fun to hang out with everyone, next time, do you want to just go out alone with me?”
Okazaki's text: “Sometimes, I just want to make you all mine. ...Hey, will you go on a date with me? (´ ω `*)”
Sasazuka: What’s this? Yanagi-san, is he making a pass at you?
Yanagi: Don’t say disgusting things like that. ...Maybe this is about the date...?
Okazaki's text: “Yoshinari-kun told me to give Mineo-kun some advice. How was it? ((((つ・ω・)つ”
Enomoto: Geh… I’m grateful but… the timing is a little too...
Okazaki's text: “I’m just gonna say I haven’t been eavesdropping or anything ☆(ゝω・)v”
Enomoto: GEH! HAH? What do you mean you ‘haven’t’? Do you usually bug us?!
Sasazuka: His kaomoji annoys me.
Yanagi: Well, then maybe he just happened to message at the right time.
Shiraishi: Okazaki-kun likes to take the easy way, doesn’t he? Shall we have Enomoto-kun try it out then?
Enomoto: Eh? Why me? To be honest I do know some real affectionate lines but...
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Sasazuka: Your face is all red. Hurry up and say it so you can go and explode on your own.
Enomoto: Heh. I learnt this from books, so don’t be all surprised after hearing it!
---
Enomoto: Hey, if the world’s gonna be destroyed tomorrow, what will you do? Heh. If it were me, I’d want to have the most important person by my side, so I won’t have any regrets. That’s why… that’s why… before the world ends… go on a date with me.
---
Enomoto: Woah!!! How was that? Hey? ...Guys? H-How was that…? Yanagi-senpai? Huh? Oi… hey… huh?
Enomoto: O-Oi… what do you think, Takeru? H-Hey… say something.
Sasazuka: Disgusting.
Enomoto: Eh?
Shiraishi: Is your head okay?
Enomoto: EH?!
Sasazuka: It was so shit it was beyond bioterrorism. Enough to make dead bodies come out.
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Yanagi: Well… now’s a good time so let’s disperse for today.
Enomoto: HEY! WAIT!! HEY!!! Yanagi-senpai being nonchalant is the worst!!
Sasazuka: What about you, Shiraishi-san?
Shiraishi: Oh? It’s rare for Sasazuka-kun to show interest in me.
Sasazuka: Yeah. Because I saw something horrifying.
Shiraishi: If it’s a date… a couple just has to meet up, right?
Yanagi: That’s how it usually is.
Shiraishi: Then don’t you just need to organize what time to meet up with her today?
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Enomoto: You think this is like a job?!
Shiraishi: Isn’t it? It’s been like that so far.
Enomoto: ...I thought this before, but Shiraishi-san’s view on love is a little not right. Even to Hoshino, you’re more interested in her as an object for observation.
Shiraishi:‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ I really am interested in her though? She has very amusing reactions, I can never get bored of her.
Yanagi: It’s because you don’t really understand interpersonal distance. It would be hard to find a true romance.
Shiraishi: Saying whatever you want, hm? Besides, isn’t love just an illusion? The residual temperature felt is cognitive dissonance caused by tension, and it is also due to the secretion of phenylethylamine, a neurotransmitter--
Enomoto: Not this kind of theoretical stuff-- love can truly change a person. For real. And it can make you see the world in a new light…
Sasazuka: This coming from the guy who has no experience.
Enomoto: Shut up! Anyway, there might come a day where Shiraishi-san encounters this kind of love and starts feeling confused!
Shiraishi: Hahaha, that’s impossible. Me? Things like love and feelings? ...There’s no way for me to get involved with such vague things.
Yanagi: You guys, that’s enough. Don’t you have work to do?
‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Sasazuka: I’m done wasting my time talking to you guys. I’m going.
Enomoto: Alright! I’m gonna go shower then.
Shiraishi: That was a good break, I’ll be going back to the station.
Yanagi: Shiraishi.
Shiraishi: Hm?
Yanagi: I can’t really imagine a day where you’ll change but… there’s no such thing as something that’s impossible.
Shiraishi: ...What? Are you concerned because I said I was interested in her? Such a worry-wart. I have no interest in playing love.
Yanagi: Don’t joke around. I didn’t expect you to have human feelings. But… even if you haven’t changed, the environment is changing.
Shiraishi: What do you mean?
Yanagi: Enomoto, Sasazuka, me… even Hoshino. We all met you, and got to know you. Even if it’s just for a bit, it’ll be hard to ignore our feelings about you.
Shiraishi: You’re all good natured people, but everyone has limits. No matter how kind people are, they will feel hatred after being betrayed. ...And you didn't trust me in the first place.
Yanagi: It’s not about trust. No one wants to ignore time spent together.
Shiraishi: ...
Yanagi: That’s how people change. Don’t forget that you influence others all the time.
Shiraishi: Fufu, Yanagi-kun, you’re so strange. I shall take this to heart.
Yanagi: That’s that, then. I’m gonna go for a smoke.
Shiraishi: Didn’t you just smoke one-- … he left.
Shiraishi: Looks like we’ve reached the conclusion of our discussion. If you fall in love, the way you see the world could change…
How ridiculous… thinking of someone as important, and to be thought of as important, to me, these are all unnecessary feelings. These things… I can’t even hold them if I wanted to. But… if… a day like this comes, I’ll...

The Perfect Cup of Tea
some Handers fluff I finally decided to post after ... a year... of ignoring it. tagging @fandomn00blr for fluffy, sniffly, Cat Husband reasons :)
With long faces (and even longer hair), Hawke and Anders rolled into town.
Sore eyes, strained bodies: as the journey from Weisshaupt to Kirkwall entered its final days, the village was a sight for both. It’d been months since the couple, traveling exclusively by foot, had felt secure enough in their anonymity to pop into one of the hamlets they passed, but something about this place—off the beaten path; rising from the forest like a fairytale—had its allure.
It may have been pure exhaustion. It may have been cresting anticipation of impending home. Either way, the bedraggled duo dove in.
Hawke, a woman who, according to reputation, would rather be flayed than found describing anything as ‘cute’, said honestly, in a voice raw from exhaustion, “it’s cute.”
“It is cute,” Anders agreed, scratching his chin through an excessive beard. “Not a lot of industry, but I suppose they don’t need it—not this close to the highway, anyway. Must get loads of visitors.”
Inspecting a large sign around which allium was planted, Hawke read aloud, “Longerswold.” She stared, as though it held a secret.
Leaning on his staff-cum-walking stick, Anders led the way. To and fro they turned their heads, padding down an unpaved street which was lined by little houses hidden behind healthy gardens.
“Has a nice Anderfels flavor to it,” the man remarked of the name.
“And as long as it doesn’t actually taste like the Anderfels, that’s fine,” Hawke answered, allowing her slighted stomach to take charge of her mood. “If I have to eat rouladen again any time soon, I’m going to… Well, I’m just not going to eat, I guess.”
“That’s my heritage you’re insulting!” But, after a beat, Anders wrinkled his nose. “I’m pretty sick of it, too.”
The air smelled sweet with flowers and lush grass; passing people smiled, inspiring confidence in the two disheveled strangers. Clearing her throat, Hawke nervously asked of someone “is there an inn here?”, and, about to enter their front door, the local turned around, approaching cheerfully.
“Sure is! Ivah’s Inn.” Beefy hands shoved in his large pockets, the man nodded down the way, drowning in the brim of his floppy, felt hat. “A few rooms on the second level. Ivah serves dinner ‘round seven. Might be you’re a bit early.”
“That’s alright!” Anders replied brightly, looking between the man and Hawke, his face lit by a polite smile. “Charming place like this, I’m sure we’ll find a way to pass the time.”
The man looked Anders straight in the eye, a most deadly-serious expression squinting his small, brown peepers. “Now you head on to Ivah’s straight-way, friend. You ask for the perfect cup of tea. Not a cup of tea, mind. The perfect cup. You won’t regret it.”
With that, the man went back up his walk way, whistling all the way into his house.
“What a friendly man,” Anders commented, beginning to drag his bones along.
“Yeah.” Hawke frowned. “Too friendly.”
But it was impossible for his pessimistic sweetheart to rain on his parade. As they stepped into Ivah’s thatched roof cottage, two kittens, overseen by their lounging mother, were playing in a stream of sunshine, their soft joyful squeals ringing through the room.
“I’ve died and gone to the Maker’s side,” Anders gushed, crouching down and watching with rapturous delight.
A voice called, “you needing rooms?”
Leaving Anders to bask, Ann strolled towards a worn counter overlooking a small dining area. There were tiny round tables with lace doilies, colourful carved nick-nacks covering almost every wall, and what room was left was filled with plush, potted plants kept fat and happy by the multitude of windows looking out into the backyard.
Distracted by this new view, Hawke’s mouth fell ajar as she looked passed the spotted glass into a yard of chaos and beauty. Not one for the leafier side of life (she’d never been a gardener), nonetheless she noticed that not one bundle of flowers matched another. Dozens—hundreds—of blooms were planted here, some of them still vaguely familiar, and others utterly exotic, but all of them different.
“Dearie?”
Ann’s trance was broken was a going-grey matron at her side, shorter than even she, wearing a dress of colourful patchwork tied at the waist with a tasseled rope.
“Yes!” Ann gasped, startled. “Needing rooms—yes.”
“That one yours?” The woman, presumably the looked-for Ivah, jerked her thumb in Anders’ direction.
Smiling thinly, Ann affirmed, “most definitely” and followed Ivah to one of the tables. The woman hastily swiped a rag over its lace covering (to which Ann smirked), then disappeared without a word.
“We, um—” Hawke called after her, hand held aloft in a ‘hold on!’ position. “We were told to get—”
“Tea! Yeah!” Ivah was no longer visible. The clunking and thudding of pot-steel suggested she was in a kitchen. “I got yer tea...”
Tuckered from his kitten play-date, Anders slumped into the chair across from Ann, cheeks glowing, eyes hazy.
“Wow,” Ann commented wryly, having once thought that look to be reserved only for post-coitus bliss.
“I named them,” Anders informed, sitting back comfortably in his seat. “Bink-Bonk and Stinker. They’re brothers, and they go on adventures together.” He nodded towards Ivah’s ruckus. “She seemed snooty.”
It was true. Brusque and assuming, Ivah’s nature was at odds with the quaint home settled within the cute village. Her garden of colours; the charming decor: neither matched her sharp, short attitude.
“I like her,” Ann said, surprising herself. Unsure why, it was nonetheless true. For reasons beyond her, Ann thought it to do with her flowers.
Quieting, slumping, the couple cooled down, taking stock of their various pains and aches, admiring their surroundings, and silently wondering how the rest of their trip would turn out.
No other living beings were to be heard in the house, which started to rub Hawke the wrong way. She was so used to over-shoulder glancing and credence-giving to the dread settling in her gut that she no longer knew how to handle peace. Five minutes of muted nothingness meant something was coming. Her heart clawed at her chest, restless and worried.
And she was right. Something came.
“Here’s your tea!” Ivah plunked down a huge tray with two-to-three too many things. Besides the tea-pot sitting on a brazier, there were cinnamon sticks bundled with red yarn, honey, milk, brown sugar, lavender satchels, cream, mint leaves, possibly maple syrup, slices of fresh, glistening lemon…
“My,” Anders exclaimed under his breath, staring at the spread.
“Never could make the stuff just right fer every person,” Ivah lamented in that thick accent particular to the town. “Always hearin’ ‘it’s too sweet, Ivah!’, or, ‘it’s too bland, Ivah!’' She nodded towards the fixings. “So here. Can’t make it perfect to yer likin’, yer too picky.”
With a flourish of her wrist, the brazier caught fire, setting their tea to boil. Ivan went off wordlessly, and Anders’ eyes nearly popped out of his skull.
“Did you—?”
“I did,” Ann affirmed. She realized why she’d thought she liked Ivah. The plants in her backyard: they’d been the same as some grown by Merrill in a little plot of soil in the Kirkwall alienage, all of which were for the purposes of replenishing mana, or supplementing mana, or sometimes subduing it.
Those flowers out back; those colours and petals: they were mage flowers.
Anders stared at the brazier’s flames, licking and flickering, dancing free and uninhibited.
“She…”
“I know.”
Hawke watched the wonder take years off his face. The newer wrinkles at Anders’ forehead disappeared; his crows feet, there as long as she’d known him, soothed. The old-man beard he hid beneath was no help, but the boyish joy pulling his jaw into an overwhelmed ogling made him as beautiful as she’d ever seen him.
“I can’t believe it,” Anders whispered, covering his mouth with both hands. Tears began to start; he looked at her with hope she’d forgotten. “Using her gifts. In the open.”
Ann realized she had to start breathing herself, or she might pass out. Swallowing, she felt a little hiccuping, happy sob, but pushed it away, back into her chest.
“Yeah.” Hawke nodded.
“With—with the new Circle of Magi under this Divine, I never thought… But without a thought! Without fear!” Anders’ bony hands, still clasped to his lips, trembled. “Maker.”
And he broke. Bent over, his face buried in his palms, the thick, glad tears spilled down his cheeks, through his beard, to his chin and sloping jaw. He was quiet in his weeping, but now and then a startling sound burst forth before he softened once more.
They knew. The town knew. Everyone in this village, without question, understood what Ivah was, and they didn’t care. They supported her; gave her coin; purpose. They allowed her to subsist on her gifts; they promoted her inn, sending strangers her way. No doubt they vetted visitors, choosing carefully whom to allow near Ivah’s inn. They loved her. They loved her enough that she needn’t be shy or guarded. She was brash and dismissive because they allowed it with their love. They let Ivah be herself.
Thinking about it some more, Hawke had to try very hard not to cry, too.
“Eh?”
Jumping, Hawke looked to her right to see the mage in question, thick hands on her wide hips, long mouth in a frown.
“What I miss?” Ivah asked, eyeing the tray, and, from her tone, most assuredly not making a joke. “Got yer cream; yer sugar.”
“Oh, it’s—it’s not that,” Ann said with a soft laugh, the sound of her own whispering voice breaking her heart. “It’s… it’s great tea. Really. It’s the perfect cup of tea.”
Ivah gave them long looks, scrutinizing and terrible. Anders tried hard to stifle himself, but it only made things worse. Finally, Ivah placed a key on their table, mentioned off-handedly “second room on the right—no charge,” and went on her way, wiping her hands on her patchwork skirt.
