is made up of love that is unrequited.

Even a heart that knows it's bound to be

broken

can't help but feel delighted

about being stolen.

It's naive.

It hopes and dreams that maybe this time...

Maybe this person would give it a reason to believe

that this frail, but stubborn little heart is worth wanting. Worth protecting.

The heart flutters and soars

relishing fantasies of its preferred fate,

until it ventures too far and it's too late.

It falls over the edge, but nobody catches it.

It shatters at the bottom of the chasm in an instant.

The sound echoes throughout the abyss

for all to hear.

Exhausted, I gather the pieces, trying to mend it back together.

Preparing it for the next unwitting attacker.
