word count: 3.3k out of 9.4k
synopsis: you, 23 reader, have been working at a library on the corner for awhile until your boss invites a hero to come and visit. The hero also happens to ask for your number... <3
authors note: yikes i know, it was originally in three parts but I don't necessarily know how to break it up, originally the story was 12k. it's written for poc!reader/black!fem!reader so there's mentions of brown skin and eyes but other than that it's your normal x reader. Izuku is aged up to 25, The smut is in the second part.
moodboard for fic by @fizziedoodle !
âHey Miss!!â You peered down at the smaller voice, simultaneously feeling a book slip from your hand and onto the ground with a thud. The bookshelf wasnât too high, but you still needed a ladder to organize and dust the top shelf. Which⌠hadnât been so pleasant with children running around before their daily read. Regardless, you had a job to do. It wasnât gonna stop for a ton of kids. You had been rearranging the books in alphabetical order before the kid startled you.. Thank god it didnât fall on their head.
âAre you gonna read to us today? Or is Miss Maggie?â The kid didnât look over six years old, blue eyes and long brown hair with freckles littering her face in the sweetest way. She wore a small dress full of sunflowers with bright pink gel shoes. Youâve definitely seen her before, although her name wasnât ringing a bell.
âI wanted to read one of those pigeon stories you read us last time!â She squeaked, shoving the book in your direction. You let out a sigh of relief, climbing down to the ground. Leaning down to be eye-level with her, taking the book gently from the girl. The title read The Pigeon Needs A Bath.
âThis book is pretty thin, You sure you want me to read just this one book, sweetheart?â You ask, handing the girl the book back before standing straight. Your hands found their way into your pockets, looking for your notepad to mark the row complete after you snagged the book back from the ground.Â
âIâll go find some more!â She hurried off, going to find even more things to shove in your face. You climb back up to finish your organizing. Their reading wasnât for another.. what? 20 minutes? You had time to knock out another shelf. Time flew by as you finished reorganizing, hearing bigger footsteps behind you than the average 6 year old.
âI have to stop by Goodwill and get some more books.. I also gotta stop at the post office and some.. other errands?â The owner of the store, Maggie, looked over to make sure she had gotten your attention before naming off a few things that needed done in the shop âYou got this reading?â
âOf course, What time will you be back?â You climbed down the last step of the ladder, patting off the dust from the bookcase that had gotten on your apron. It was some cutesy light blue apron you wore so the dust wouldnât ruin your clothing. It didnât match everything you wore but the baby blue made your skin pop.Â
âIâll be back in time for that uh, Pro hero guy..â She snapped her fingers, trying to place a face and a name. âI donât know exactly who- my wife wrote him in.â Maggie waved her hand, grabbing her bag from behind the counter as you followed. âBut Iâll be back to close, Promise y/n!â She gave you a quick side hug, rushing out the door.
You werenât too involved with all the hero bullshit, competing for the number one spot on who can save more lives to be rich and famous? Please. The system in itself is ass and it wouldnât make a difference in your everyday life for one of those snobby people to stop by. The kids seemed to love it, quirkless or not. You walked around to the counter, placing your notepad next to the register before going to sit in the small corner of the shop for reading time. Maggie left with a wave, letting a small chime rang through the shop as it called the children over for their reading, a few already sitting and ready to listen.
The library wasnât big, it was a corner store completely renovated into a library for children. The second floor had been an apartment where the owner and her wife stayed. It was a cozy little place where neighborhood kiddos would visit for a read, parents come in to buy a few books. Maggie always made sure there was something for everyone, Along with cute little toys and those foam floor mats to sit on. The girl from earlier held 4 books in her hands, rushing to sit near the front with her pile. A few other kids held thin picture books in their hands as well, but only having 15 minutes to read to them, you knew you wouldnât get to them all.
âAlright, Whoâs first?â You asked, smiling down at them. All twelve of them raised their hand, some even raising both so your attention was on them. Of course this wasnât going to be easy. You thought to yourself as you put a hand over your eyes, pointing to some random kid. He held a small book, standing up slowly and handing it to you.
"My mommy reads me this sometimes..â If you give a mouse a cookie. You gave him a reassuring smile before he went back to his seat. You began to read and in no time at all you finished reading the few books children selected. Thank god it was a Friday, Most children would be picked up right after the reading for afternoon preschool etc. But it seemed like no one wanted to leave.. Was it that hero Maggie had mentioned? You sighed, hopping up and heading to the check out desk where you saw a small line of children waiting to scan their books. The store bell jingled, as if the creak of the door didnât give away someone walking in.
âWelcome to âMaggieâs Magical Bookshop,â You paid the person no mind as you spoke, handing the last child their book before letting your gaze fall upon the⌠very tall man in front of you. Noise almost immediately filled the shop, children running up to him screaming-
"Deku!â As loud as their little lungs could. He gave a flashy smile, leaning down to hug the children that ran straight for his legs. He laughed and lifted a few of them in his.. very strong arms. Was it hot in the bookshop? Was the AC fucked up? You force your eyes from the tall man.. fumbling with something on the desktop. Was he looking at you too? Your mind screamed at you to introduce yourself, Quickly walking towards a shelf to do something. Anything besides gawk at him.
âAre you Maggie?â There were hopping children behind him, playing with his gloves and such as he spoke up. You stopped in your tracks, huffing through your nose before turning around to face him.
âNo, Iâm y/n. Are you the um.. pro? She had been talking about?â He extended a hand, nodding with a cheesy grin on his face as soon as your hand was in his. It wasnât like you never saw him on the news, but you sure did skip the channel as soon as it was some bullshit hero chart over who had been number one. He was newer to being a pro, you knew that much. He was also so much hotter in person..
âYes! Iâm sorry Iâm so early, I finished patrol sooner than I thought!- I hope Iâm not interrupting anything! The woman on the phone said before six, I told her I was sure I could make it before then!â Your eyes never left his, watching his gaze fall to your lips for a moment as he spoke.
âYouâre fine, Thereâs plenty of time for you to hang out and sign all of their t-shirts and such. Make yourself at home, The reading area might be best for the swarm you got..â The kids dragged him to where you were just moments ago before he could respond, talking his ears off about different silly topics.
The poor hero stayed until close, kids coming from school to see him before going off to finish homework. Itâs the busiest the store has been since opening day! However, Izuku made it a point to stay that long. He spent the last 45 minutes of the store being open to make some conversation with you, he just couldnât help himself. You had this smile that he couldnât resist. And quite frankly, he wasnât used to the feeling of butterflies in his stomach. He fought some shit villain every day, Whatâs a few butterflies? Especially as pretty as you. Why wouldnât he want to stick around?
âI really didnât think it would be so calm this week! It feels like Iâve done nothing but catch up on papers!â The hero scratched his neck with his index finger, shaking his head lightly. âI guess I really am doing a good job!- Of course other pros are doing their jobs as well!â He let out a relieved chuckle, looking at you with a big, sincere, smile on his face. âHow has work here been? It must be so nice working with so many children!â
You feel your eyes involuntarily roll, shaking your head and leaning against the wall behind you. âItâs nice until some kid gets sick on themselves and their mother isnât here to help. We have extra clothing in the back because itâs happened more than once.. I donât understand why kids throw up so much.â Your groan turned into a laugh, eyes leading to lost n found. You had an unamused look on your face talking about it. He noticed but couldnât stop looking at your soft brown eyes. He felt like he was a kid all over again, the blush on his face never faulting.
âI see adults get sick all of the time if you can believe it..â He chuckled, looking out of the store window for a few seconds before speaking again. âDo you have a number I can text? I would love to talk to you more.. If thatâs okay with you?â He braced for rejection, It was kinda weird to be hitting on you after dealing with kids wasnât it? Maybe he should take it back. Was he coming off sleazy? Maybe he should talk to you a few times before he asks.
Your eyes widened in the slightest, feeling a smile tug at your lips. âSure, Let me see your phone,â You stepped closer to the counter, seeing him fumble in the pouch of his belt before handing you his phone. You went to his contacts, making yourself one of them and handing it right back to him. He had an even bigger, cheesier, grin on his face after he took it back.
âI have to um.. I have to go back to my agency to make sure everything is settled for the night. Iâll be texting you as soon as Iâm off!â He spoke quickly, stumbling over his words as he slowly backed towards the door. âI hope you have a good night y/n!â He waved, bumping into the door with his back before quickly leaving. He didnât want to continue making a fool of himself.
Finally, you could go home as well. Not that he was a problem, but that man sure could talk. It was endearing. You thought to yourself, grabbing your keys and walking out to lock the small bookshop up. There was no doubt that you were attracted to him. Every woman in America.. Japan, Hell the world was attracted to him in some way. But he asked for your number. You felt your chest swell with some kind of pride. By the time you made it home, he had already texted. You two made plans to hang out soon and have dinner together. You talked for hours until you eventually fell asleep. He was ecstatic. You really enjoyed his company.
As the next Friday rolls around, He tells you to put on the most fancy thing you have in your closet. He refused to tell you where he was taking you, only that heâd be to pick you up at 6. You werenât one for surprises but this couldnât go too bad. Fancy clothing? Had to be a dinner! You hoped it was just dinner. Your social battery couldnât take being fancy for more than about two hours max.
And 6:00pm sharp, there he was. He wore a shiny black tux with a handsome sage green tie, carrying flowers for you. Thinking that roses were too cliche, he had bought you a bouquet of daisies and pink lilies. He took a deep breath, walking up to your door and knocking before taking a small step back, wanting to give you some space to avoid smothering you as soon as you opened the door. The gold watch on his wrist flickered in the sunlight, the reflection of the light shimmering across your chest as you answered the door.
You had on a short, silk, black dress, fitting to your body in the best way possible. Your hair was done, your make-up was done, you even had on these cute black glittery heels you got on sale. You looked stunning. He blinked a few times, scanning your body with his emerald eyes. His jaw stayed slack, struggling to speak at first. âYou look gorgeous.. I-I brought you flowers.!â He extended his arms out to hand them to you, feeling his face radiate heat from how red he had gotten. He tried to fan himself, laughing softly.
You simply smiled, taking them and going to put them in a vase. âYou can come inside if youâd like! Itâs not really tux weather, huh Deku?â You teased, turning on the water from your faucet and looking back at him.
He quickly nodded, walking in and shutting the door quietly behind him. âPlease- Call me Izuku.â You undid the rubber band on the bouquet, sliding the flowers into the vase along with the small flower food it came with.Â
âIs that your first or last name?â He looked around your cozy apartment, looking at pictures and the designs on the coffee table. Just soaking in small details. âMy first name, Midoriya is my last..â He looked over at you, hearing the small clunk of glass hit the table lightly as you set the vase down. You bent over slightly, centering it at the table and moving the napkins to the kitchen counter top instead. âHowâs it look, Izuku?â You looked over at him, standing up straight and leaning your arms on the back of the dining room chair.
He let his eyes drift over to the vase, smiling as he felt his face finally cool down. âI think it looks great! I didnât want to get you roses, I just thought it was.. boring?â He didnât want you to be allergic in some way or throw them away right after he left. Then again, He couldnât ask what your favorite flowers had been. You would have known what he was getting. You began walking over to him, grabbing your handbag. âI think it looks pretty! Are you ready to leave?â
He beamed, nodding and opening the door for you. He gave a small bow for you to go first. You thank him, flicking off a few lights on the way out. He followed before shutting the door. You lock it with a small hum, checking that it was locked before walking you to the.. fucking limo he had waiting? Your eyes shot open in surprise, looking over at him as he looped his arm around yours and walked you to the newly washed, maybe even newly painted, vehicle.
âI hope I didnât go too overboard? I just wanted the first date to be nice. Ya know?â He flashed a small smile, opening the door for you and hopping in himself as you two drove into town. You looked around the area, seeing fancy liquor and wine glasses close to a very clean mirror. The seats were cream colored and it smelled like new leather. Your eyes roamed, seeing Izuku sitting tense with his scarred hands placed in his lap. Maybe he was trying to avoid making you uncomfortable.. He really had been a gentleman.
You scooted closer to him, watching him quickly move his arm up top of the seat to give you room. You lean your head onto his chest lightly. âWhere are we going?â You ask, looking at your freshly done nails. He wanted to leave it a surprise, looking down at you with a small chuckle.
âNowhere too expensive,â He joked, letting his freckled hand slide to rub over your shoulder. You eased into his touch, smiling and looking down at the tight fit of his pants, rubbing a hand over his knee as well to make sure he was alright.
âThat didnât answer my question, Where we goinâ?â You laughed, looking up at him to see heâs already looking down at you with the most lovey dovey face he possibly could. Still trying to soak in the sight of you.
âDonât you wanna wait until we get there?â He faked a pout, holding back a grin creeping onto his face. You faked annoyance in return, huffing and scratching his knee a few times with your nails. âFine, Fine.. Iâll wait.â You looked through the tinted windows, feeling your heels squish at the carpet on the floor of the limo.Â
He looked at the mirror, seeing your pretty shaven legs and wanting to run his hands down them. Your skin was just so soft.. But he didnât wanna be weird, sighing and looking away from your frame quickly. âYou like steak? Or are you more of a sushi person?â Maybe he didnât even know where you two were going, sliding his scarred hand down your arm lower than before.
âSteak is so good,â You laughed, trying to recall if you had even tried sushi. You think you have? You were up to try it again. You shrugged, âThe sushi I don't mind trying, Iâm probably just going to get something small.â You fumbled with your nails, picking at them slightly. Eating on first dates was always kinda weird. Especially when the person gets too scared to eat in front of you. Then you donât wanna eat and itâs wasteful..Â
âYou can buy everything in the place if you want. Donât look at prices. Iâm treating you, y/n.â He leaned down to your forehead, giving a small peck before he looked out the window again. You smiled wide as the feeling of the limo moving started to slow to a stop. The valet opened the door for the two of you, ducking his head down slightly and smiling. âRight this way,â
He bowed at the two of you, seeing the pro hero get out and turn to you. The place was lit with warm lights and music coming from the revolving door as people walked in with big flashy outfits and styled hair. You took Izukuâs hand, getting out and letting your heels clink against the top of the curb and onto the carpet leading to the entrance. He pulled you close, moving his hand to hold your waist. âDo you like it? I know we havenât gone in yet but the lights on the outside look pretty cool, right?â The valet shut the door behind you two as you walked towards the door.
You were speechless, letting out a small but nervous laugh. âIt sure is something.. It already looks too expensive.!â It wasnât like you were poor, but it wasnât like you were rich either. This place looked like the start off price was 200 a person for a damn drink! You kept yourself close to the hero as you both walked into the rotating door. The carpet from the walk-way turned to fancy tile that made a lovely click noise when you stepped onto it. The interior was more gold than anything with dark wood complementing the hostess stand and the pillars of the building. Gold designs littered the bar area, making it look more than pleasant. Looking to your left, there was the tallest fish-tank that you think you had ever seen. Still not as tall as the ceilings but it sure was tall enough. There had been lots of colorful fish, octopus, starfish.. Everything was in that damn tank.Â

The first person you saw after the first game at the Beach was Usagi. You ran to her as soon as you saw her by the pool.
âHave you seen Arisu?â She asks you as soon as you let go. You shake your head in worry, your head immediately looking around and searching the crowd for the familiar shaggy mop of hair.Â
âThere!â She exclaims and you both push through the crowd to get to him. He sees both of you approaching and screams your names in delight. Â
âArisu!â You grin as you approach him. You immediately wrap your arms around him. He pats your back.
âYouâre both alive.â He lets out a sigh of relief. You nod and let him go.
He and Usagi stare at each other with shy smiles, making you roll your eyes. You stood in between them awkwardly.
âPlease just hug it out. Iâm practically begging at this point. I wish the game just killed me if I knew I will have to see this shit.â You cross your arms and walk away from both of them while both of them follow you, no doubt still shyly smiling at each other while talking.
You sat on one of the pool chairs and Usagi sat on the edge of your seat. Arisu sat on the other chair beside yours.Â
âAnn was trying to test me,â Arisu says as he sat down on the edge of the beach chair, talking about the game he was in.
âWhen in Rome, do as the Romans do,â Usagi replies while you nod in agreement.Â
A girl in a blue patterned two-piece swimsuit enters your space and sits beside Arisu. She was tall, pale, and pretty and with some kind of stick in her mouth. The three of you follow her with your gazes.
âYour girlfriend?â She asks and nods at Usagi. She was talking to Arisu.
âWhat?â Arisu reacts, clearly caught off-guard.
You roll your eyes again but watch the exchange with a grin.
âYouâre wrong,â Usagi denies.Â
âYou clearly like each other. Why not date?â Kuina shrugs and then continues. âYouâre never gonna know when youâre going to die.âÂ
Whatever Arisu, Usagi, and the new girl were talking about, you tune it all out with your thoughts.
It was harsh but true. People always say, if the world was ending, theyâd live to the fullest. In Borderlands, every day is your last day. You think back to Chishiya. If he was here, how would he treat you? Pain struck your chest at the thought.Â
Will he ever look at you the way Arisu looks at Usagi? All this time, youâve been hanging on to your life hoping youâll return to him. But is it worth it? Will he even like it when you come back?Â
âWhat about you?âÂ
The girl looks at you with expectant eyes.
âWhat was that? Sorry, I zoned out.âÂ
âYou got someone to go back to the original world? Iâm Kuina, by the way.â She gives you a sweet smile.
You nod, thinking of the nonchalant platinum blonde. âYeah. I think so.âÂ
She was about to ask more when a loud voice halts the entire celebration.
âHey, stop playing that tacky music!â
Armed men enter the area. You recognize some of them as the men who tied you up when the three of you were caught spying on The Beach. Everyone stops partying upon their arrival, you even see some holding their breath.Â
âItâs the militants,â Kuina explains to the three of us. âIf you want to live a peaceful life at the Beach, avoid getting involved with them.âÂ
She begins to explain who the militants are and what they do. The muscular man named Aguni is their leader. Theyâre who are in power on the Beach along with Hatter and his devotees. A conflict could happen between the two groups at any time. You donât doubt it. Such two different powers will clash inevitably.
Aguni and his militants stop by the four of you. He was looking at Arisu who avoided his gaze.
âWhat happened to your friend?â The question was for Arisu again. You raise a brow. Youâre beginning to notice a lot of people knowing Arisu. He mustâve been in a game with the man back when he was with his friends.
Arisu stayed silent, a glimpse of his defeated self, lying on the ground passing by you.Â
âI see. He died.â Aguni states the obvious. âWhat a shame only the small fish survived.âÂ
You frown at the clear insult to your friend.
âDo you know each other?â Kuina whispered to Arisu.
Aguni then flits his dark gaze to Usagi and then to you. You suddenly felt naked in your black two-piece swimsuit. But itâs not like you to cower. So you look back at him with the same dark but angry gaze.Â
âYou,â he points at the arrogant-looking man with the gun over his shoulder. âBring those women over.âÂ
The man quickly moves to his feet, about to grab Usagi first. Arisu stands up in a heartbeat, shouting his protest.
âStop it. Donât get involved!â Kuina holds his arm as he stands up.Â
Usagi stays planted in her seat and you stand up, fists in anger and on your sides.Â
âOur boss said he wants a taste of both of you.â He says with an ugly smirk on his face. With you being closer, you could see the multiple piercings on his face. You feel nothing but disgust for this man.
The man grabs Usagiâs arm again and both Arisu and you stop him.Â
âStop it,â Arisu repeats, standing in front of you and Usagi.
âWhat? Had to have two chicks to yourself? Donât you know sharing is caring?â He asks Arisu and then asks Aguni. âWhat should we do about this guy?âÂ
âBreak his legs so that heâll die in the next game.âÂ
Your eyes widen at the words of the militantsâ leader. You quickly felt fear for your friends. God, is this really gonna happen to the three of you?Â
The pierced man orders the militants to bring the both of you to Aguni while he grabs Arisu.
The tattooed man with a sword approaches you and grabs you by the arm.Â
âFucking let me go.â You struggle against his hold, tugging your arm from his digging grasp.Â
Arisu escapes the pierced manâs hold and is about to head back to the both of you when the militants block his way. He canât do anything. You canât do anything. You were outnumbered and no one will save you.Â
You stare down the bald tattooed man, not letting him see your fear.Â
You look around, desperate for an opening or an idea to save the three of you. The people only look at the situation closely.Â
There was only one name in your mind. Chishiya. You have to get out of here for Chishiya. You have to make it out alive somehow.Â
âIs this a fight?â
The crowd made a way and came in the Beachâs number one, Hatter.Â
âBack off Hatter, this doesnât concern you,â Aguni spoke up.Â
âI canât do that. As Number One, Iâm obliged to maintain order at the Beach.â He says dramatically, looking afar. Then he looks at the militants once again. âCan you let off the newcomers in my account, Aguni?âÂ
All of the residents of the Beach watch as the tension between the two leaders rises. It was Hatter who first breaks the stare down and looks at the pierced man.
âNiragi?â He directs the question to him. So his name is Niragi, you thought. Itâs best to avoid him. He reeks of danger and you are seldom wrong about your intuition.Â
Niragi looks away. âI only take orders from my boss.â
Hatter clearly takes offense at the manâs answer and looks at Aguni again with dark eyes. âThen let me ask your boss.â
He stares down at Aguni again, faces inches away from each other. âWhoâs your boss, Aguni?â
Aguni doesnât look at Hatter, staring ahead in anger. Then he turns to face Hatter. Everyone waits for the tough-looking manâs answer.
âItâs you, right?âÂ
Hatter seemed pleased with his answer and whispered something to him. Aguni then makes his way out of the scene. You successfully tug your arm out of the militantâs grasp, glaring at him and moving away.Â
âAll executive members are to gather in the meeting room!â Hatter announces to everyone.Â
The militants rush out of the scene and Hatter watches as they walk away.
âArisu, youâre coming too.â He orders without looking at him, still eyeing the gunned men who have their backs turned to him. âI heard your potential from Ann. Follow me.â
Arisu looks at Usagi and then at you. You nod at him, assuring silently that the two of you will be okay.Â
âIâll be back,â Arisu promises to Usagi who was still sitting down.Â
Your male friend follows Hatter and Usagi trails behind him in worry but stops after a few steps. You follow her and place a hand on her shoulder, staring at the back of your friend who was to be in a meeting with the executives.Â
âUsagi. Heâll be fine.â You tell her in comfort, mostly telling it to yourself too.Â
You turn back at Kuina, about to ask her if she knows where theyâre going.Â
But what you saw froze you in your place, dropping your hand from Usagiâs shoulder.Â
You felt your heart drop to your stomach. That white jacket. That platinum blonde. Those cat-like eyes. Your eyes must be deceiving you. It canât be.Â
âShuntarou.â You sang as you entered the Doctorsâ lounge room.Â
He was alone and it was so quiet you can hear a pin drop so you donât miss how he audibly sighs. You giggle, well aware of the fact that you annoy the shit out of him. You sit across from him. He was reading some patient information with three books stacked on the coffee table in front of him.Â
As usual, he doesnât even express his negative welcome with words.Â
âI bought you something,â you wave the paper bag in front of his face in excitement.Â
It didnât surprise him. You always do this. Whenever you were out shopping, you had to buy him one thing. It was an unspoken rule you set for yourself. And it could be anythingâno price range, no rules. One time, you bought him a plant. It died in three weeks. So, you set another rule for yourself, only inanimate objects as gifts.
You set the paper bag down and take out the box inside it. You know he wonât bother opening it in front of you so you open it yourself.Â
As you take off the lid, you excitedly say, âTada!âÂ
His eyes flit to the content of the box for a second and then to you before going back to his patientâs papers. He never says thank you for any of your gifts but you donât really mind. He didnât ask for them anyway. But you know when he likes the gifts. Itâs how you know more about him. Heâll never tell you what he likes or dislikes so it was up to you to figure it out.Â
âItâs nice, isnât it? Can you wear this when we go on our date?â You press him as you take out the white jacket from the box.Â
It wasnât a date. But he doesnât deny it so that was enough for you.Â
Before he answers (but you doubt he would), the door of the lounge opens and walks in Nakamura Hina. She was your senior in med school and a great doctor. Sheâs also one of Chishiyaâs co-workers.Â
Sheâs nice and she never showed you anything bad but you sense that she doesnât like you. You didnât mind. There was a pretty long line and you donât plan on opening the doors to any of them.Â
âY/N, youâre here,â she states the obvious and gives you a tight strained smile. Her eyes flit over to Chishiya.Â
âChishiya, Mr. Yamamoto wants you in his office to talk about the patient.âÂ
Without saying a word, he was already on his feet, not even sparing you a glance and following Nakamura out the door. You stand up too.
âIâll head out too! Remember what I said, okay?âÂ
He doesnât even acknowledge you and kept on walking. Hina was looking at you with pity in her eyes. Youâve grown accustomed to it. That was your reputation anywayâthe rich girl always hanging around Chishiya Shuntarou.Â
When they were out of the door, you slump back down your seat and groan.Â
Before leaving, you fixed your gift back in the paper bag and set it down next to his things.Â
You hope heâll wear it, at least.Â
Itâs Chishiya. Your Chishiya was beside Kuina.Â
He was staring ahead of you so you purposefully blocked his sight, forcing yourself to be in his sight. It was so you to force your way into his life.
If he looks at you, then itâs real. Heâs real.
His gaze drops on your face but as soon as his eyes meet yours, Usagi speaks.
âY/N? Whatâs wrong?âÂ
This made you look at her. âItâsâ,â you look back at him but find yourself gazing at a crowd with no Chishiya or Kuina in sight.
Heâs here in Borderlands.Â
Scared to be alone in such a dangerous place, Usagi and you slept in her room. You lie on your backs and side by side on her bed. Inches away from each other, you could practically feel Usagiâs anxiety reeking off and unto you.Â
âDo you think Arisuâs fine right now?â Usagi finally thinks out loud.
You sigh. âHe can handle himself.â You pause and think about the man you considered your friend. âHeâs smart, isnât he?âÂ
You feel her genuinely smile beside you. âItâs definitely one of his strengths.âÂ
âSo you like smart guys too?â You tease her. âI get it,â you add, thinking about a certain genius doctor you know.Â
âToo? What does that mean? Your type is smart guys?â She gets excited and faces you on her side, leaning her chin on her palm and putting her upper weight on her elbow.
You purse your lips. âIâm not telling you.â
She shakes you and whines. âCome on. Tell me.â
You grin and lean on your elbow too, now facing each other like two teenage girls in a sleepover. Doing this felt like ages ago. You used to gush over Chishiya to your girlfriends who clearly felt annoyed and tired of it. But right now, Usagi was waiting and is so excited for you to tell her all about the guy you liked. It reminded you of how life used to be so simple. Now, romance was a luxury no one can afford in Borderlands.Â
âHeâs a doctor.â You start. âWeâve known each other since we were kids. Our parents were coworkers and friends.âÂ
âI was in med school too. We were both there together. Itâs kind of an unspoken thing that weâre arranged to be married. I hated studying medicine. So I didnât really pursue it after college.â You pause, thinking about much easier times. âChishiya, though, heâs good at everything. Heâs smart and heâs so cool. He isnât like anyone I've ever met.â
âSo itâs him? The person youâre going back to after Borderlands?â Usagi asks, sweetly and in awe.
You gave her a sad smile. âThat was the plan.âÂ
Her brow furrowed and formed into a frown. âWhat do you mean?âÂ
You lie back down, looking up at the ceiling with tears in your eyes. Itâs a good thing the lights were off. âI saw him tonight. Heâs here.âÂ
âHeâs here?â She doesnât hide the shock in her tone and you nod. âWhy didnât you go to him?âÂ
âItâs weird.â You admit. âIâm kinda scared.â
Itâs true. You were scared. At first, you were shocked but then you were scared. Chishiya were in the same deadly games youâve been in. Needless to say, they were traumatic and insane. You donât doubt that he won all those games but still, you were scared. One wrong move is all it takes sometimes. He could die any day here in Borderlands instead of him waiting for you in the real Tokyo. And would he care about you here? Without the threat of your parents knowing their daughterâs every move?
âYouâre scared of your boyfriend?â She huffs, trying to lighten the mood.
âThatâs the thing. Heâs not my boyfriend,â you answer with a sad voice. âI was just this girl who chased him around. I didnât mean a thing to him. Iâm scared that he wonât care about me here.âÂ
Usagi places a hand on top of mine.Â
âIâm sure he will. Youâre hard not to care about, Y/N.âÂ
You slept that night with a heavy heart. Youâve come a long way in the games. You sacrificed, killed, and bled just so you can come back to a life that was not even worth living for a man that was fighting for his life in the games as well.Â
It scares you a lot because as much as you do not care about what happens to you, you know that youâll die for him. You realize that your feelings for him run that deep. You love him that much.Â
That very night, you realize that your goal in Borderland has changed.
It wasnât to go back to Chishiya. It was to make sure that he gets out of here alive. Even if meant your damnation, youâll gladly take it.Â
The next morning, Arisu, Usagi, and you went around the Beach to gather information. There wasnât much. You learned that there weren't any games beyond Tokyo and it wasnât accessible at all. Whoever leaves Tokyo or the country, a laser shoots them from the sky.Â
The three of you assume that the only real way to get out of here was to play the games.Â
âIâll go to the annex basement,â Usagi says as the three of you walk outside the building. âIâll go get some food supplies and any weapons that we can use.âÂ
âIâll go with you,â you tell her. She nods at me. âIâm going to look for someone I know.â
You spun and nodded at Arisu. âIâll look for some more information if I can, in case we need it.âÂ
The two of you separated from Arisu and did what you told him you will. You didnât find Chishiya. You didnât think it wise to ask the residents of the Beach about his whereabouts because it wouldnât be wise for them to know about your association with him. None of these people can be trusted.
When the three of you met up once again, Usagi began to tell Arisu that the Beach had gathered quite a large number of firearms and it was guarded.Â
âAs long as they have those firearms, Hatter is dangerous,â Usagi worried.
You nod. âThe militants too. They overpower us.âÂ
Arisu stops walking, thinking deeply. Usagi asks him whatâs wrong but he walks again and looks out the window.Â
Out there, the residents of the Beach weâre partying like thereâs no tomorrow.Â
âThe Beach,â Arisu starts. âA utopia built upon charisma. However, maybe thatâs just our imagination. A utopia doesnât exist in this world.âÂ
Usagi and you look at each other, confused at your friendâs mumbling.
âUsagi. Y/N. Iâd like to talk to you about something.âÂ
He stares at the two of you deeply in the eye, waiting for your answer intently.Â
You let out a loud huff. âWhy? Whatâs got you serious all of a sudden?â
You were mad. You found Chishiya on the rooftop with Kuina. How dare him tell Arisu to specifically leave you out of his plan?Â
âY/N?â The tall woman was the first one to see you approaching with heavy breaths and clenched fists.Â
âWhy would you tell Arisu to leave me out of the plan? What if something happens to the four of you? What am I supposed to do?â You protest in anger.Â
âKuina.âÂ
He only says her name but Kuina understands him. She gives him a nod and taps you on your shoulder before heading inside and out of the rooftop.Â
âI want to help. I want to leave here too,â you plead with him and take his hand. He pulls it away from your grasp and your heart doesnât miss to ache because of that action.Â
âWhat is so valuable about your life outside Borderlands, anyway?âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âYou spend all day swiping Daddyâs credit card and drinking with your fake plastic friends. And when youâre bored of them, you come to the hospital to annoy me.âÂ
âWhy are you saying this?â Tears well up in your eyes. Itâs not that he was lying. All he said was true. You know that you do, in fact, annoy him. You donât forget the evident irritation on his face whenever he sees you approaching before Borderlands.Â
You couldnât help it. Even if the life you had before was dull, there was something about him that pulled you in. You know that he never liked you despite the association of your parents to his. But to hear it tonight, right when youâve only asked him if you could be a part of his plansâthat you want to help him leave The Beach and out of Borderlands.
âJust go back to your room, Y/L/N.âÂ
Stupid. Worthless. Annoying. Thatâs what he thinks you are. Youâre too stupid to be in his oh-so-great plans to leave The Beach. Youâre worthless in his and your own life. Most of it all, you were nothing but a nuisance to him. He doesnât even think of you as a friend. He just thinks of you as someone whom his parents thrusted to.Â
You agree itâd be better if you werenât sent to this world with him. But you were.Â
âIâm serious. Youâll mess up my plan,â he even adds.Â
âWhy would I do that? What about the games I played? Do you not think Iâve won them with my hard work?âÂ
He makes a tsk sound, staring ahead. It was chillier on the rooftop than expected and your long-sleeved shirt wasnât enough to shield you from the cold. But you endure it for him and for this argument.Â
âNo. Youâve won games on your own.â
âThen why?â You plead. âWhy do you think Iâm incapable?âÂ
âI donât think youâre incapable.âÂ
âProbably not. But you think Iâm nothing but a burden to you.â
âYou are.â Typical. Unfiltered and cruel truth comes out of his mouth.
âThen you should just let me die in the games I will be in. That way, youâre free of me forever. Youâd be able to come back to our life, Chishiya. I know it. I just want to help you. Because Iâ, even if Iâm not your friend, you are mine.â You rarely call him by his last name. The only other times were when it was necessary so you donât doubt that he felt the coldness in your voice when you uttered his name.Â
âBecause I love youâ, you almost let out.Â
You donât wait for his answer and turn around, leaving him alone on the rooftop with his uncaring face and his hand inside the pocket of his white jacket.Â
While his other hand, the one you held in yours, twitches against the cold breeze of the night.Â
As Shuntaroâs childhood friend, his unfiltered words were nothing but old news to you. Every time heâd push you away and tell you mean things in disguise of cold harsh truth, you wonât deny that you feel a pang of pain in your heart for a millisecond. But, as aforementioned, with the years youâve known the nonchalant cat-man, youâve learned to tug that feeling away as soon as possible.Â
Right now though, you find yourself exhausted dealing with him.Â
Now, your feet have carried you to Arisuâs doorstep instead of yours. Despite knowing Chishiya before Borderlands, you werenât brought here with him. You had your first games alone. Thatâs when you found Usagi and then eventually, a distraught and defeated Arisu lying on the street.Â
You spent most of your time in Borderlands with him and Asugi. The three of you joined The Beach together. Who wouldâve thought youâd find your long-time crush and friend here as one of the executives?
But before knowing he was here, all your thoughts consisted of the guilt of survival. After all the games you were in, why have you survived? You didnât deserve it. You donât consider yourself a good person. You were high on privilege and you basked in it. Your life was pointless with no real hardship.
Youâve confided in Arisu when these thoughts occur. It wasnât because he was good at comforting you. It was because he understood. He told you he lived a similar life before Borderlands. You picked each other up when he lost Karube and Chotta.Â
You knocked on his door while hugging yourself in one arm. Your head was all scrambled and there was an aching pain in your heart because of Chishiya.
âY/N?âÂ
Arisu opens the door to you with tears streaming down your face. His hair was shaggier than usual and he could barely open his eyes. You felt a bit guilty for waking him up so late at night.
âWhat happened?â
And then you spilled everything to himâthe talk with Chishiya and the way you felt about the blonde. You told him how you felt cast aside on the plan to steal the cards.
In the dark of Arisuâs room and on his bed, you tore open your heart in front of him. Your friend sat quietly on the side, listening while rubbing your back in comfort.Â
Itâs ironic how Arisu felt more like a friend than someone you knew for more than a decade. To Chishiya, you were nothing but a burden. Just someone who his parents wanted him to be associated with. His father is a great doctor and a good friend of your father, the owner of multiple hospitals all over Japan.Â
And you, you were studying medicine as well but you never particularly felt attached to it. It felt like something you had to do. You were supposed to inherit all of it anyway.Â
You donât consider yourself intelligent but you had good grades up to high school. It was during college that you started to drift away.Â
Little do you know, your parents didnât think you were capable of handling all your businesses from the start. Thatâs why they chose Chishiya. He was put in the same classes as you from high school up to med school. It was never spoken of but both of you knowâChishiya was being put beside you to marry you and have him take over the company. Chishiya Shuntaro, the genius child.Â
It was what your parents wanted. It was what his parents wanted. It was what you learned to want. It was what he never wanted.
No, he did want your fatherâs position. He was always drawn to power and control. And he will get it. But you were the weight that had to come with it. It hurts but itâs the truth.Â
You clung to him for a long while. But a person can only take so much. Maybe he finally had enough. Without your parents in Borderland, he was free of your childish antics. If you die out here, you know that your parents will still take him in. In fact, maybe theyâd be glad that theyâve gotten rid of you. It was nothing but a formality after allâjust to say that the next owner is still of your fatherâs blood.Â
Despite all that, you love him. You love all of him. You love him even if he looks bored to death when heâs with you. You love him even if he straight up refuses to teach you the lessons you have a hard time on, only to give you his notes right after and even quiz you on them. You love him so much that you accepted being treated like you were worthless and nothing but a pretty display of a daughter by your father so you can have him. If Chishiya wanted to be selfish, then so can you. If he has your position as chairman, then youâll have him. Itâs only fair. He can be happy with his power and miserable with you and you can be happy with him and miserable with your life.Â
Chishiya is a complicated person. You know that deep inside, he has learned to care for you. Even for a little bit. Well, thatâs what you try to believe.
âIâm sorry for waking you up.â You say to Arisu when you are done venting.Â
Arisu smiles and sighs.Â
âOur plan, Y/N. Itâs dangerous and I understand him.â
You sniffed and paused. âYou think Iâm incapable too?â
His eyes widened and he shook his head violently. âNo. No. Thatâs not what I meant.â You chuckled at his troubled facial expressions.Â
âI meant that if I cared about someone, I wouldnât want them in danger.â He explains himself.Â
You went quiet after those words. Was it possible? Was it possible that Chishiya was ignoring and pushing you away in Borderlands because he⌠cared?Â
You donât want to hope⌠but god do you want to.Â
âHe hasnât seen you in those games. You are more than capable, Y/N. I know it. But I know that if I had the option, I wonât risk putting my friend in danger.âÂ
You nod, taking in his words with understanding. You want to believe that Arisu was right. You want to trust Chishiya. But could you? Do you really know the man behind the rose-colored glasses you wear when you see him?Â
âOkay,â you sigh.Â
That night, you stayed with Arisu in his room after arguing with Arisu to let you sleep on the couch instead of his bed. You only didnât want to risk seeing Chishiya if you went back to yours, especially when his room was a couple of doors down from yours. And you were too tired that you just wanted to crash.Â
As you stare at the ceiling of the room and feel the digging of your shoulder blades and hips on the couch, you think about the person you and Chishiya were before Borderlands. It hasnât been long but youâve already found yourself comfortable with sleeping anywhere, not bathing for days, and hardly eating anything at all. You hadnât faced any of these hardships.Â
Arisu was already awake when knocking on his door woke you up from your slumber on his couch. You stirred yourself awake and stood up from the couch.Â
âKuina,â you hear him say as he opens the door.Â
You rise to your feet and head to the door. Kuinaâs stare lingers at your recently woken-up form but waves at you and greets you anyway. You wave back.
Kuina whispers something to Arisu and he nods then looks back at you. âY/N. You can follow Kuina after youâve fixed yourself, okay?âÂ
You hate this. You felt like a child being taken care of.Â
Kuina guides you outside the building after being holed up inside your room for the day. It seemed like the plan was a success and you were just waiting for the others.
You tap your foot repeatedly to aid your nerves. Kuina stood beside you quietly, chewing on her stick.Â
âItâs really hard not to have a smoke right now,â she sighs and talks to no one in particular.Â
âWhatâs taking them so long?â you couldnât help but ask.Â
As if on cue, Chishiya walks out of the building with his hands in his pockets. You frown when there was no one who followed him next, no sign of the shaggy-haired boy and the athletic girl youâve grown to love.
âI guess itâs time to say goodbye to this too.â Chishiya removes the band from his wrist indicating his ranking among the executives.Â
You follow him with your gaze but look behind him from time to time.Â
âWhereâs Arisu? Usagi?â You ask him, worry evident in your tone.Â
Chishiya stares at you, looking at you with those unfeeling and unemotional eyes. You stare back at them, trying to decipher what he means. And then it hits you.
âNo,â you breathe out.Â
You look at the girl beside you who hung her head low, not being able to look at you.
âKuina?â Your voice weakened.Â
Your heart sunk to your stomach. Anger filled your senses and for the very first time ever, you felt hatred for the man in front of you.Â
âYou sacrificed them?!âÂ
He looks away. âIt was the only way.âÂ
âTheyâre my friends,â you complain with a heavy heart. âArisu is my friend.âÂ
âI feel really bad for them, Chishiya,â Kuina adds.Â
His gaze flits back to you. âOh, is that why you ran to your friendâs room for the night after our argument?âÂ
How did he know that? But why does he care?
âYes. Because unlike you, he gives a shit about me.â You answer with spite. âHow could you do this to him? To me? Is this why you didnât include me in the plans? Because you know Iâll stop you?âÂ
Chishiya doesnât answer for a while. Silence fills the void between the two of you. Kuina stays silent by your side, watching the scene unfold with her eyes.Â
âThen go.â
His words held no emotion as he stared at you deadly.
âI betrayed them so we can go out. The three of us. But if you want to go, then go. Help them. I donât care.âÂ
You look at him and then back to the building. Arisu and Usagi were probably being held by the militants right now. Youâll be outnumbered and caught. But what were you going to do? Go with Chishiya and leave them to die? You thought about the awful things they wouldâve done to the three of you if it wasnât for Hatter stopping them and you felt sick to your stomach. This was not the game. You arenât supposed to kill and betray unless you were forced to in a game.Â
Arisu and Usagi are your friends. Chishiya is your friend. Youâve never had real friends before, at least no one really felt like they were. Arisu and Usagi were the first people who made you feel like they were happy to be your friend.Â
You canât leave your friends.Â
âYou have the cards, right?â You ask him.
He smirks. âOf course, I do.âÂ
He says it with confidence like he has the ticket to the way out of Borderlands. With this, he was so sure that youâd have to come out with him. So you can go out. That was what he believed you wantedâthat you wanted to go back to your life before.Â
But he was wrong.Â
âThen youâll be fine.âÂ
His eyes widened for a second before they turned to something different. They werenât as dark or lifeless as they usually are. Instead, you could almost see a hint of surprise and maybe even hurt spread across his eyes.Â
You jump to him and wrap your arms around the man. How many times have you hugged him? You could probably count it with your hands. So you take it in, close your eyes, and try to engrave the feeling in your brain.
âTake care of my parents and the hospitals, yeah?â You whisper in his ear and hold on for five more seconds before completely letting him go.
âKuina, look out for him, please?â You ask the tall girl but donât wait for her answer.
Chishiya still stares at you, unspeaking. You look at him one more time and give him a sad smile with tears in your eyes before turning around. Youâre afraid that if you look back again, youâll run to his arms once more and cry about how much you love him.
He doesnât care if you do. Itâs better for you to leave him.
He has the cards now which means heâll be fine. He can get out of here. If there was someone who can, it was him.Â
He has no purpose for you anymore and youâll only be a burden.Â
With that, you run back inside the building.Â

People lead busy lives, and unexpected events can often disrupt their routines. Some days are busier than others.
However, with wrestling season kicking off and your boyfriend, Gojo Satoru, making headlines in college and local newspapers as the potential winner of the S&J 2023 Belt, he was under immense pressure from his team coach to perform at his best.
As a result, this season had left him incredibly busy and stressed. Balancing the demands of completing his thesis, maintaining his weight for the competition, and practicing tirelessly, all while trying to ensure you remained his top priority.
You had always been known as an independent person, finding solace and joy in your own company. As Satoru found himself busy with his commitments, you found yourself having a hands full with the university events department, where you were deeply involved in planning upcoming events.
Between both of your hectic schedules, finding time to relax in each other's arms had become a rarity.
Your interactions had been reduced to brief moments, such as getting ready for bed or starting the day. This new routine began to take a toll on your relationship, leading to nightly arguments and hurtful words exchanged in your shared apartment. Tension between you two was palpable, with some nights ending with one of you sleeping on the couch, while the other shivered from the absence of warmth.
Neither of you had the time or energy to address the issues that had arisen between you. But, one day, Satoru surprised you by inviting you to a wrestling kickoff party hosted by his teammate, Geto Suguru. Although hesitant, you decided to accompany him, swallowing your pride as you held his hand tightly while entering one of the gathering rooms on campus.
You didn't know many people at the party, unfamiliar faces, especially numerous females, filled the room. As you sat on the couch sipping your Shirley Temple, you observed various scenes â wrestlers trying to flirt with women, groups dancing to the music, and, most importantly, your boyfriend engaged in conversation with a group of people, wearing a genuine smile that had been absent for weeks.
Amidst the crowd, one woman stood out, too close for comfort with Satoru. She was touching his arm and laughing along with him and the group. It seemed like he was giving her more attention than he had given you in the past month.
"Oh my god, do you remember the time we got lost in the park, and Kento had to come pick us up!" you heard the woman exclaimed from across the room. You couldn't bear it any longer, so you walked up to them and tapped Satoru on the shoulder, informing him, "I'm not feeling well." Your voice trailed off as you looked at the ground. His attention immediately shifted to you, and he sounded genuinely concerned as he asked, "What happened? Do you need medicine?"
"I'm gonna go outside," you replied wearily as you made your way to the front door of the house. Satoru asked if he should come with you, tones of worriedness laced in his words. You walked away without responding, finding a seat on the stairs leading to the entrance.
Satoru wondered to himself what was bothering you. He couldn't hear the woman talking anymore, as his thoughts were consumed by concern for you. As he excused himself from the conversation and headed to the front door, he found you sitting on the stairs, scrolling through Pinterest.
"Hey, Y/N. Love, did you come out here just to use your phone? I thought you weren't feeling well," he calmly inquired, taking a seat next to you. Your eyes were still glued to your phone as he moved it away, causing you to roll your eyes at his actions.
"It's nothing," you began, but Satoru interrupted, "Don't give me that 'nothing.' You know I don't like it when you say that. I can tell something is bothering you." He sighed, looking down at the cement ground.
"âI don't understand. You said you were getting fresh air, but when I came out here, you were on your phone. Did you just need to make a phone call? Just tell me what's going on because right now, I have no idea," he implored, his hands resting on his knees as he leaned closer to you.
You finally met his gaze, and with a soft and embarrassment filled irises, you apologized, "I..I just miss you!," you began, looking in his azure eyes, swallowing air before continuing, "I miss cooking for you and eating at the table with you! I miss when you make those stupid but silly faces at me when we're eating...I miss when you play with my hair when we're studying together. I miss you Satoru!"
"We haven't been doing those things in the past few weeks, have we?" Satoru tried to lighten the mood with a chuckle, and a small smile appeared on your face. You shook your head slowly in response.
"Seeing you talking to that girl made me feel jealous. I wished it was me you were talking to, smiling, and laughing at instead," you admitted as Satoru wrapped his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close to his chest.
"If you ever think that some girl could ever compare to what we have, you're completely wrong. You're the only one I think about. Even with all this happening right now, I only ever want to think about you. I am infatuated with you baby...We're both stupid for not talking about this sooner," Satoru reassured you, planting a kiss on your cheek.
"Are you mad at me?" you asked calmly. Satoru quickly pulled back, looking puzzled. "No, why should I be?" he replied. You shrugged and finally gave him the eye contact he had been longing for.
"All of this? What happened tonight and the past few weeks?" you clarified. He laughed at your words, cupping your face to make you look at him. "Never, was just a misunderstanding. Plus, even if I was, how could I stay mad at this cute face?" he said, his smile growing as yours did.
"You also aren't the only one who missed the other person. Missed you a lot as well" He continues, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear. "I will make it up to you...kay' sweets."
"I love you, Satoru."
"I love you more, Y/N," he replied, cupping your face before giving you the long-awaited kiss on the lips.

You need to read the live action, the manga and the anime as different canons. It's healthier to the fandom's brains AND it's also better for analyzing properly what is going on.
One Piece is the type of story that relies heavily on the medium it is presented on. Hm actually, let me correct myself: One Piece is the type of story that celebrates and understands and was born to be told in that specific medium. The form and the content don't exist as separate entities, but are rather intertwined to elevate the narrative. That the characters are soooo cartoonish is not a mere style choiceâ it holds meaning, it complements what the author is trying to transmit.
One of the first things that I learned in college while studying storytelling was that there's a max point for tension in any story. There's a top to how tense you can keep the audience. If you reach that point, you won't be able to intensify the emotions; that's it, you need to introduce a breather or you'd end up with a stagnant narrative.
In manga/comics and cartoons/anime it's easier to walk that line. The power to make some silly joke or have the characters acting stupid is in the hands of the mangaka. I bet any manga reader or anime watcher can think of a moment in their fav series when the characters were in the middle of a seriously important moment, just to be involved in something ridiculous that breaks the tension.
It's fantastic. Mangas and animes love to make fun of their mediums, introducing satire to allow the audience some laughs. It's not until later when the reader/watcher sits and realizes how fucked up the whole situation was. A delayed punch to the gut, something to keep the mind working and thinking of their series until they wait for the next chapter/episode.
How to make the audience feel the impact of a character? Well, you can allow the audience to empathize with the character by explaining their reasons or backstories, you can show the world through their eyes. You can also show them all goofy and happy, so when the hammer strikes the readers/watchers will be nostalgic for the good times, mourning the fact they will not get more of that and becoming nostalgic. There are so many ways to keep a character haunting a story...
Oda is aware of all the manga medium can and cannot do. For people like him, the limitations are actually just more tools to play with. If you want to double check what I'm saying, go reread the panels where Luffy awakened Gear 5. Only manga could offer what went down in those panels; when the very nature of Luffy's powers are revealed to the audience and the characters, the manga gets self-aware and voices it out: "hey, this is the type of thing that only happens in comics, right?"
The anime allows a different range of tropes and shapes the story, correctly translating it. It's true that the best translations mind the public and the medium, adapting the jokes and references. It's also true that every translation is a little betrayal to the original, a unique creation in its own right. A good example of that is the way that the fillers shape the perspective of the watchers when it comes to the characters' dynamics. If the anime has a filler arc where the fight, a new tension will be present in the next manga canon arc. If the anime shows a filler where characters are close friends, it's gonna be weird when they start acting all distance back at the manga canon events. Not all fillers are meant to be considered part of the main storyline, of course. You have OVAs and you have movies and fillers and all types of media that are considered separated.
On the other hand, you have the visual changes: imagine that the anime changes the angle of a scene where two characters used to stand close and put more distance between them. What the manga could mean as a subtle implication that those characters cared about each other could turn into cold tolerance of the other's presence. Even the best of animes have those changes!!!!
In One Piece's case, turning the story into a live action series must change almost everything. It'd be impossible to maintain the cartoonist aspects of the story (unless they decided to go full Looney Tunes in that movie with Brendan Fraser lol). The choice was the following: we can try to keep the original elements even when they translate poorly to the new medium so we can please the original fans that are used to the story âOR we can try to translate the essence of the story and change all that needs to be changed, so that we keep the storyline and storytelling coherent and cohesive, at the cost of creating something not necessarily alien, but still new.
Violence in OPLA is way more serious.
You know how in the manga/anime characters would get fatally wounded and come back like it was just a minor injury? Or how they'd heal with no major medical intervention? That's a liberty of the medium. Your brain doesn't process the same way when you see a drawing wounded and when you see a real life person wounded. In OPLA, the suspension of disbelief is harder to achieve. Even and because the story was already introducing Luffy's powers and other fantastic elements, they needed to be careful to not overdo it. One option was to make people actually dieâ to know that in the live action not everything is so silly? It raises the stakes. OPLA discards some elements that are natural of a manga and in consequence, the story turns out to be darker. You have no fillers or little stripes of silly drawings or author comments or openings and endings. You'll have to do with what you do have and tell a story worthy of being told in that new medium.
That's a good translation right there, made by someone who understands that you cannot copy and paste things recklessly. That's the formula that made so many live actions fail, in fact.
You'll see many fans complaining because they don't understand any of what I just explained. For them it's easier to justify their opinions by saying that "they did this bad and that's why I don't like it" than admit that "they did this correctly but it's not my thing anyway".
One big example? Fanservice cannot be carried out from manga/anime to a live action. It's not the same to exaggerate the proportions of a body in a drawing (we can discuss the morals of this later) than ask of it from a human person. It's not the same to use some sexual traits in fiction as a way to appeal to the audience than to carry out those implications to a live action (again, I'm not saying it's good or bad because that's a discussion for another time).
Actors are humans. They will never have the same characteristics as an animation or a drawing, no matter how advanced technology is. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you appreciate art for what it is in its medium.
So really, what's the healthiest option? It'd be to approach each version as exactly that, a version of the story. As foreign as it can sound to some fandoms, the audience doesn't have to justify their opinions on something. Opinions are not professional reviews or art analysis. You can be as subjective as you want! To perceive each version as its own little world is easier: you can say "I like this better" without invalidating the opinion of anyone else. There's also the fun in exploring the different implications (they look like friends in this version but like lovers in this other) and playing with the divergences. Fans do that all the time in their art (literature, visual art, music, etc)
You can also analyze different versions of what is going on and contrast them. Do the differences change the form and content of the story or just one of those things? How does this new element change the dynamic between these characters? Are the characters written well but get thrown into a new setting? Is the setting the same but the characters feels more like ocs than the characters from the original story?
Knowing how much One Piece values symbolism, it'd be interesting to see how they could translate the constant influx of symbols in the manga or in the anime to the live action. The live action might show just the most important parts, cutting all the rest for lack of both space, time and budget. What does the author consider to be vital to the story and what can be cut down?
To have three parallel Luffy's in different stages of the story is fascinating to me, more so than the idea of trying to mix three formats that won't even match, mind you.

Poast about the "fucking some guy" saga behind the scenes because I can't shut up about it :]
The idea of this series started as just some Maul porn (possibly as a kinda flashback in what became They finally fuck each other this time) where he fucks a guy. Originally i was thinking of going with a twi'lek because they're what we see as sex workers the most in canon, and also the idea of them having two dicks (to match the two headtails) entertains me
As mentioned before, the base of They finally fuck each other this time is actually a wip I've had for Months and didn't know where to go with
There was a scene in the wip where Obi-Wan gives Maul a patdown to check if he's really unarmed, but it was not homoerotic enough and felt kinda out of place and out of character so I cut it
(There were also supposed to be more scenes with Bo-Katan, but once again. did not fit well enough.)
There was gonna be a scene like right after they fuck where Obi-Wan gets a call from the Jedi Council because he's been gone and out of contact for Hours so of course they're worried. and he's like. "oh don't worry I was just having a conversation with a slightly paranoid possible new ally. nothing much going on :) " [<- his neck is visibly covered in hickeys and bite marks]
[yoda voice] some bacta you need. terrible post coital manners your new friend has.
The original original idea continues well after where I ended the series, and involved Maul being imprisoned after Bo-Katan gets the throne except he's put in like. a ray-shielded apartment. and Obi-Wan has to live with him. because there's no way simple technology can keep a Force user imprisoned so they should have a jedi guard him, and Bo-Katan asked him so nicely, how could he possibly refuse to submit to the torture of living a domestic life with his nemesis with benefits.
And from then on it's all just. silly gay slice of life.
Like.
Very awkward jedi visits because everyone wants to see how Obi-Wan is doing but they're all distrustful of Maul even though he's just. vibing in his corner. sipping tea or reading a book. ignoring everyone staring at him.
VERY awkward Anakin and PadmĂŠ visit because he Senses she is pregnant and the children (he can feel it's twins) are Force-sensitive and he's like. well that's Interesting [<- doing his best not to bring up the topic of fucking jedi]
(the visit slowly turns into talking about the merits of leaving the Jedi Order for love and how that's totally fine and not a betrayal of one's morals and if someone wanted to stop being a jedi to go marry a senator and become a father that would be totally fine Anakin we would all be so happy for you. hypothetically.)
A mandalorian tries to "jailbreak" Maul but he's like. I'm fine where I am, so no thank you. and this probably happens like once a month.
Arguing about tea (it's like a hobby for them) (force help anyone who visits them during these arguments, they WILL force people to take sides)
And more!
#hm i should make an original post tag#hm i should make an original writing tag#obimaul#the duel took like a week to happen so obi-wan had time to go back and tell the jedi council what maul told him don't worry#he did not forget the main reason why maul kidnapped him. and neither did i. i just didn't know where to fit it in the post#palpatine is either arrested (and executed) or on the run. but either way he's definitely exposed#and the jedi can finally go back to their real job (pacifying the galaxy)#and obi-wan can finally get a fucking break#i loooove imagining silly little neverending scenarios it's like a whole series in my head. full of filler episodes.#which is why i would never be able to make the original idea a thing#because it's. ever-growing.#one day i'm imagining the anidala visit. the other i'm imagining barriss visiting and asking maul so many questions#like do your tattoos mean anything. what was your family like. are your eyes naturally yellow or do you make them like that on purpose.#and obi-wan being like. barriss don't be rude!! [<- has been wanting to ask all that stuff for ages but never had the courage]#it's fun to think about but it's not something that can be turned into a fic

Which characters/character do you feel most personally/emotionally involved with and why?
oh this is a very difficult question and i appreciate it very much. as any creator would, iâm inclined to say all of them in different waysâŚbut thatâs kind of a cop-out.
i think iâll say brinne and lennox. theyâre not the characters i relate to the most, but i do think i feel the most emotional connection towards them. a lot of what draws me to them is their silent sufferingâboth of them live in glass prisons of their own making. a lot of this is mental illness related, but their natural dispositions are also of great influence (although lennoxâs natural disposition is extremely debatable when you consider nature vs nurture).
brinne was the first of any of my idris characters to exist, and the depth of her development definitely follows suit. her transition from a manic but deeply idealistic teenager to a reticent and self-interested monarch through the buildup of her childhood trauma and the final straw of her near death experience is so deliciously heartbreaking. her loneliness, her codependency with adrian, her sexual and alcoholic coping mechanisms, her deep uncertainty in the religion that gives meaning to her entire lifeâŚpoor girl canât catch a break. brinne has always been the focus of idris, and iâve had fun and iâve had pain hurting her like i do. most of the actual writing that iâve accomplished revolves around her, and for good reason. she is at the core of the conflicts plaguing idrisâs centuries-old culture and still just a twenty two year old girl who never really got to grow up. sometimes i act as though her teenage self and her adult self are two separate people, but the truth is that they are painfully intertwined. brinneâs suppression of her idealism and desire for change in service to her desperate attempts at self-preservation is what drives her motivations throughout every iteration of this story. she cannot escape who she is, try as she might. and i think thereâs something so, so compelling about that for someone in a position of such horrible power like she is.
lennox is layer upon layer upon layer. the fact that he was originally inspired by byakuya togami? weâre not gonna talk about that. lennox has also come a long way as a character, the third to exist after brinne and adrian. heâs an og. lennox was a nice kid up until about age six, where the kindness was quite literally shattered in him to make room for solid perfection. a machine with style. he grew into the role almost too perfectly. the pinnacle of competence, a voice of absolute reason and logic amidst his generally wild and dysfunctional generation of nobles. here is why i feel such connection to lennox. he is ice on the outside, ice on the inside, speaks only when necessary but controls the conversation, and casually usurps the throne from time to time. he has studied these same people for sixteen years, understands most of them sickeningly well, and appears virtually flawless aside from his mansplainer bullshit. but my god is he grumpy, bitchy, flamboyant, perfectionistic to the point of petulance, and baselessly sadistic. heâs the second most powerful person in the country and he has constant migraines from dealing with othersâ bullshit. he loves his siblings. heâs one of only two characters to understand his sexuality and heâs deeply afraid of it. he gets no bitches. heâs still mourning the death of the cousin whose death he was responsible for and who he was boyishly in love with. heâs sensible as all hell, but my god, he is fucking losing it. nobody gets that. even the people who hate him donât get that. they hate him for his pretentious swag but donât understand how much of a loser he actually is. anyways. iâm on a tangent now. heâs flawless. heâs horrible. there is no changing who he is, but would he ever have turned out like this naturally? lennox is a product of both what others have made him into and what he has forced himself to embody. there is no lennox that isnât a diamond formed under absolute pressure.
#thanks for the ask <3#my apologies angel if this isnât very coherent#oc: brinne alistair#oc: lennox warryn#they are very very very important to me.#these are only the beginnings of my true rants honestly i could go for hours#i tried to cut myself off for a reasonable point at both of them#brinne was easier to stop because her problems all relate to a few core things#lennox was hard to stop because his issues come from all sorts of directions.#plight of the only child vs plight of the eldest#đ¤

Ace Attorney 4-3, Investigation 1. In keeping with Gavin being surprisingly friendly for a prosecutor, I love the way 4-3 spins directly out of our developing relationship with him specifically.
Klavier Gavin is the only prosecutor ever to voluntarily hang out with the protagonist prior to the big conclusion of their arc. Some prosecutors have showed up to hang out in future titles; In fact, Gavin does too. But this is the first time we've actually been able to get to know them before the showdown.
And you can see why, too. Gavin's not only the friendliest prosecutor. He's also the only one who. Like. Has a life outside the courtroom. Other than Edgeworth being a sentai fanboy, I guess.
This one's going to have to be in two parts.
Rockstar prosecutor Klavier Gavin is a rockstar. So we're going to set a chapter of the story at a rock concert. His rock concert. What a great idea.
OH YOU CAN BARELY TELL THAT A MAN WROTE THIS
The least believable thing in the entire Ace Attorney universe is that the Gavinners somehow have a successful rock career. Rock is a counterculture movement, giving voice to the unheard.
It is physically impossible to get any farther from counterculture than literally cops. This is it. The extreme distant end from counterculture. Who the hell would buy cop-themed rock?
The Daily Wire wishes conservative media was as well-received as the Gavinners.
It's especially bizarre when you consider that we're in the Dark Age of the Law, a period of time when the criminal justice system is so widely known to be corrupt and brutal that pop culture came up with a name for it while it was still happening. Everyone knows that the justice system is broken and exists solely to persecute the innocent but we're all gonna buy tickets to watch a bunch of cops play guitars and cheer for how cool prosecutors are.
Nonetheless, this is such an unassuming setup for a murder. Why would there be a murder? We're here to make music. We're here to make cop music. Can we have one nice evening? But no. Gavin and his guest star Lamiroir take the stage and....
It does not go well. In fact,
It goes aggressively not well. Fortunately, the victim lives long enough to tell us that Lamiroir saw him get shot.
Romein here speaking in code to give us a riddle to solve. I usually hate cryptic moments like this when characters use a short window of opportunity to speak in cryptic tongues rather than deliver useful information. But with Romein, it makes sense. The man has been shot and ours is not his first language. He's wracking his brain right now to find correct enough words to use.
In any case, this sets up our crime for chapter 4-3. A classic Whodunit in an enclosed space - complete with a vanishing killer who somehow teleported out of the room despite us breaking in through the only exit moments after the gunshots were heard.
A limited number of people have access to this backstage area and half of them are cops. One of them shot Romein LeTouse. Which means now would be a good time to talk about the cast of characters involved in this case.
We have two sets of characters here. First is the guest singer Lamiroir and her entourage.
The mysterious and lovely Lamiroir, a famous international singer who is probably the real reason all those people are here. Come for the legendary international celebrity but also cheer for the fucking cops so they don't get mad and shoot tear gas into the crowd.
Siren of the Ballad Lamiroir is easily our most interesting character in this case. Not originally from her "home country" of Borginia, her entire persona is a manufactured illusion.
As well as her manager and translator Romein LeTouse whose name makes me sad that our local salad buffet place shut down during COVID. He's one of only two people involved with this case who can interpret for Lamiroir, who speaks only a foreign language. That's a problem, seeing as he's our vic--
Oh, never mind, she can speak Japanese "English" just fine. They were doing that for publicity. Convenient!
And her blind child pianist Machi Tobaye. He and Lamiroir seem like they make for quite a pair. These two, I can believe having a famous musical career. Machi, incidentally, can "also" only speak his native language just like Lamiroir but I'm sure that won't be important.
These two characters form an inseparable performance duo from a foreign land, whose relationship with each other and their late manager will carry much of the intrigue for this case.
The other key set of characters would be our cops.
Of course we have Ema Skye, our embittered forensic scientist whose talents are wasted as a field detective. Of course, she's definitely off the suspect list on account of the fact that she was with us when the gunshots were heard.
There's Prosecutor Gavin who is having the worst day. He probably didn't dunit but then again it wouldn't be the first time, would it?
And Detective Dickhead. His hair truly must be seen to be believed. He is attempting to pull off the Japanese Thug Pompadour in a way that can only be described as, "Hello, Officer."
Just like Ema, Gavin and Daryan both have airtight alibis as well.
It's hard to get a stronger alibi than "Thousands of people saw me onstage while the murder was taking place."
AND THEN THERE'S THIS ASSHOLE
That's it. That's all we get. Glimpses of the Golden Fucko as he bazingas around dodging attention. Okay, dude. Way to not look suspicious, I guess.
That's it. That is our small cast of characters aside. It's not a lot of people to look into. In fact, Mysterious Golden Fucko aside, nobody seems capable of fitting everything we know about this mystery.
Continued in part 2.

on the throne / k.m
i needed someone new for this idea and who better yet than niklaus??
also ty for the love nd support xx
summary: tara bates comes from a long lineage of witches which she yets to learn, but when she becomes involved with klaus and the danger of her own her path becomes more
warnings: literally the originals, mention of death,
giving this one a character and back ground story
tara bates was a witch from a long lineage, and living in new orleans led to the dangers of everything. especially the eye of an original.
keeping everything cool, not practicing my magic as the rules enforced upon us. bartending wasnât the worst tourist made things interesting...
throwing the dishes into the bar dishwasher pressing start, i look up seeing a beautiful eyed man in front of me.
a smile on my face, âhey, what can i get yaâ?â he stares at me a little too hard and i swallow harshly. âoh just a glass of your finest whiskey, love.â
british... hmm. i nod and move the stool so i can reach up to the top shelf, since i am short and all. pouring the glass infront of him, sliding it over towards him.
he smirks softly, eyes catching mine as he grasp the glass. âwhatâs your name, love?â
my eyes furrow slightly, but neverless my mouth opens. âitâs tara.â
he nods taking a gulp, pulling something out his bag and replacing the spot of where the drink once was with a $100. he sets the glass down beside it empty now, âgoodnight love.â
my eyes glance over the $100 then him walking away, pushing myself around the corner of the bar. i grasp his arm before he could take off.
he looks at me almost as if in shock, âyouâre drink was like 8 dollars, i owe you cash back?â he shakes his head the same smirk still plaster along his face. âkeep the change, as a way of me saying...â
he leans closer, âmaybe you can owe me one.â leaning back our eyes connecting mine slightly widen. before i could speak he walks out the bar, i stuff the money in my apron.
the way he asked about my name, the owe you one... he had to know you were a witch. not knowing what to do as you felt yourself internally start to freak you glance back at the bar.
âhey can you watch over for me, need to step out for a second.â she waves me off, a thank you escaping me. escaping out the back door, i sigh at the fresh air.
âtara bates...â my voice rang and my head darts to the side. âthereâs possibly only two people you could be.â i spoke up, tryna hide my fear.
âand those are?â he steps more into light,
âone of marcels new body gaurd, which i havenât even done any fuckinâ magic by the way! or your the hybrid the rumours have been about.â i spoke out in one breathe, making sure to keep your distance.
 âi think you know.âÂ
i push back against the wall eyes widening at the site of a thousand year old vampire in front of me, âand what would a thousand year old hybrid want with me?â eyes connecting once more as a he glowers at me.
 âi need a favor. a witch favor.â
my eyes widen, looking around carefully. âno! are you out of your mind, two of my friends have died and other witches for any practice. i sure as hell not gonna die for you!â
he flashes in front of me, a gasp escaping my lips. âyouâll be protected... because youâll help protect my family.â
scoffing at that, i attempt to walk past him but he catches me in my spot. i glare up at him, âi donât know you, and with all my own shit i donât have time for yours... or dying for you.â
the words were real and raw and klaus looks at me with indifference. âelijah is better with the promises than i am, love... but i can tell you this. no one can touch you without going through me.â
moving out of his embrace, stumbling slightly. âwhy me? and who the hell is elijah?â
âyou know why.â an eyeroll leaves me, âiâve been years out of practice... im not who i was before.â the fact he knew my history left an unsettling feeling over me at the thoughts of those days.
âdoesnât matter, now you can practice.â he acts as if thatâs just gonna work.
âif i set one spell up marcels guys are coming straight after me!â i argue back already getting annoyed, him obviously feeling the same since he rolls his eyes.
âmarcel isnât who you should fear...â he goes to come towards me making me instantly freak slinging him back against the wall. my eyes widen in horror as klaus just chuckles.
ân-no no, i-i canât use mag- i am going to die. oh m-â klaus speeds back in front of me making me jump as he grasp my shoulders making me look at him.
ânow youâre in a predicament love...â i glare at him shoving him away. âthis is your fault i-i was defending myself.â
my lips quiver as klaus clicks his tongue, âwell as i have said... work for me and i can promise no harm to you.â
my eyes water slightly before an exhale left my lips making me gather myself, eyes flickering back to my job. not knowing exactly how marcel knows when magic is used i stare back at klaus.
biting my lip anxiously i finally mutter out my response, âfine.â
a smile breaks out over his face, like he was used to this. âperfect, letâs go.â
-
days have passed and iâve been in the mikealsonâs home, practicing illegal witch craft; along with finding out a lot more.
like why my witch friends passed away, because klaus has a child with a girl named hayley and has siblings aka elijah. also learned klaus has taken into therapy with camille, who i happen to know.
im told she doesnât know, and i hope it stays that well. as well as the war between klaus and marcell, and learning about davina.
knowing the story of the sacrifice, i didnât know davina survived and that hit me. i havenât seen her in years, and i tried to save her from that but i couldnât.
tonight was a ball, and somehow i was invited leaving me in my room looking through my clothes in despair. the internal debate won against myself, as i drop down on my knees.
pushing aside some stuff i see the purple box, that was once my mothers. sliding it out and opening it, tears gather in my eyes. âi miss yaâ momma.â
wiping the tears harshly, i stand up and pull the dress out.
  -
now a part of the family more so as a protective witch, i became closer to rebekkah and hayley. i leave my now room at the home, walking out to run into klaus.
âah, the girl i was looking for.â i roll my eyes, âdo i ever get a day off?â
he smirks playfully, ânever with this me.â
i pull out my buzzing phone, seeing a familiar number pop up. âactually give me a second.â my eyebrows furrow at the name, walking off slightly i bring the phone up to my ear.
âwhy are you calling me?â anger rises through me at my brothers call. âwell hello to you too, sunshine.â
glancing over to see klaus acting like he wasnât easedropping, âi recall my last words to you were ânever talk to me againâ or did i lose my mind?â
he scoffs on the other end, âwhatever, sis... you know you canât keep secrets from me.âÂ
 âwhat do you want?â
âi heard your hanging with the original crew... shame shame shame sister. didnât you pay attention to the prophecies?â he taunts making my eyes widen.
âyou leave me the hell alone, chris or i will-â
âyouâll what? exactly...â i pull the phone away hanging up on him, shakily letting out a breath as i make eye contact with klaus.
âwho was that?â he refers to the call making me shake my head, âno one. now what was it you needed?â
he stares at me, almost analyzing me but he surprisingly leaves it. leading me into of the many rooms i have yet to enter. art surrounds me, scattered around everywhere making me stare in awe.
glancing back at him, before stepping more into the room. âi love art, wouldâve never guessed yaâ for a fan.â the comment made klaus look at me in a fake hurt.
âthey happen to be mine... well most beside a few iâve gathered over the decades.â my eyes land out on one in the corner, a moon with a shadow figure of a girl... something i have seen. in a dream.
my head turns to him, him analyzing my reaction. âi-i have seen this before.â
he steps forward, âi did too, thatâs why i drew it.â i continue glancing back and forth. âi mean iâve had some crazy dreams but never one of the same as another?â
âthatâs why i had some questions, but thatâll wait we have to talk.â
confused on why he would wanna change subjects so quickly, âhavenât we been talking?â
he stares at me intensely, âtara do you know what you are?â i roll my eyes, âyes a witch, where are you going with this?â
he shakes his head softly, âfamily drama?â i glare at him, âyou werenât supposed to listen in on my conversations klaus!â
he steps closer, âwhoâs chris?â i stare more so up at him, noticing the pretty color that shines in his eyes,
âmy brother.â the confession made me back up, âone that i despise so i really donât wanna talk about this, okay.â
âif he tries to hurt you, i promise i can kill him like that.â a small smile cracks across my face. âno itâs handled...â
he looks as if he wants to say something but instead he just smiles softly, âso hayley... are you two like?â i hint towards a little information on whether they were a couple of sorts.
he shakes his head, âno, she is the mother of my child.â i just nod at him, before glancing back at the picture. âi see things sometimes, dreams that become reality or dreams of things before...â
glancing back at him watching him listen closely, âi met someone like you before, rare type to come across.â
ânot so rare, my mother did so aswell but she got caught practicing magic and was killed.â the confessions of everything that left me, made you stiffen up.
âum i need to go.â i rush out the room not allowing klaus to say another word, the tears slip down my cheeks as i close the door shut. havenât spoken of that in years the agony of grief overwhelms me, leaving me to crawl into bed to mourn.

âno! mama!â i scream as i was held back, watching my mother get dragged out of the house. marcel on the steps, âit wouldnât have come to this if only you listened.â
his words echo through me as my sobs began to leave me, pleading to be let go. my moms eyes catch me one last time as the door is shut and im left struggling against a stranger.
 âmama!â
i jerk awake, sweat dripping off me as i grasp my chest. breathing heavily i glance over the room before my door swung open and hayley appears at my door.
âare you okay?â she looks at me worried but i nod, âyes- sorry i had a... bad dream.â she nods staring at me.
âdo you wanna talk?â my eyes see her tired ones and i bit my lip before nodding. âit-it was my mom... i um watched her get taken from me to be murdered. havenât had a dream like that in awhile.â
she nods before pulling me into a hug, which felt really nice. âyou arenât alone in this.â
the look in her eyes tells me that we are alike, and maybe we could be friends throughout this. âthank you hayley, im here for you too. well the both of you.â i laugh softly as i touch her stomach softly.
she sighs, âam i a horrible person for bringing my child into thi-this?â i shake my head, ânot when they are loved.â
her eyes water at that, âtake it from me... it means a lot having parents that love you.â
âthank you tara...â with that she stands up making me grasp her hand, âgood night.â
âgoodnight.â she responds turning the light off and shutting the door leaving me in the dark to fall back to slumber. not knowing klaus heard it all.
-
after waking up later than usual, i decide to get up and get ready. after grabbing my bag needing to go by and grab some stuff from my place, i head down stairs.
no one was out and the house was quiet which was unusual. oh well, i open the front door and head out the door. the sun was bright today feeling amazing on your skin.
i was beginning to feel trapped inside that place, so the walking was enjoyable. deciding to take the longer way to stop by my favorite cafe, the thought of my job entered my mind.
holy shit, iâve lost my job now. what am i gonna do about money?
deciding to discuss that one with klaus later, i hit the street of the cafe. walking in i see matilda at the counter, âhey darlinâ!â
i smile brightly, âhey girl, can i get my usual but do a double shot of expresso.â she nods with a smile typing everything in as i hand over a $20. she hands me back the change and i stand off to the side as she makes my stuff.
iâve come here almost twice a week for over a year, so it was enjoyable to see her face. seems like everything in the past was fading. her calling my name brought me out of my thoughts and i grab my breakfast sandwich and coffee.
leaving the cafe, i take a sip of my coffee a smile erupts my lips. i move the plastic down and take a bite as i continue my way to my apartment.
finishing my sandwich i throw it in the nearby trash as i get close to my apartments. as i round the corner taking a sip of my drink, the coffee went everywhere when hands grab me.
panic fills me as my bag slips off, the person holding me shoves me forward into someone elseâs arms. i squeeze my eyes shut and the person who has a hold of me flings off me hitting the wall.
glancing around a few vampires i sigh, this really suck. âtara bates youâve been charged with doing witchcraft.â one of them spoke up making me glare at them.
âbite me.â i smirk as she charges forward me throwing my hand forward watching her fly back. the other two rush forward making me throw them back, just as the one behind me catches me off gaurd.
teeth sinking into me, the pain unbearable makes me lose focus. i scramble and try to scream but i was going weak and his hand was on my mouth. before i could pass out, he was thrown off of me.
my body hit the ground as hearts did beside me, before someone had me scooped up. their wrist shoved into my mouth makes me cough on the disgusting blood going down my throat.
my eyes focus on klaus who looks down at me in worry, âyou okay?â
blood stains my mouth and i only nod, âyou kept your word.â i mutter before all the adrenaline leaves me, making my eyes flutter shut.

Book recs based on stuff I read in 2023
Nonfiction
Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer (2003) - it's outdated by about 20 years which leads to one hell of a jumpscare at the end, but I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested at all in Mormonism, high control groups, FLDS, and the history of abuse against women and girls in the LDS; it covers everything you need to know about the ways the LDS church has cultivated a paedophile/domestic abuse culture and it's fucking haunting and it's the most upset a book has ever made me
Black Tudors: The Untold Story by Miranda Kaufman (2017) - a really fun read; it's a collection of case studies of the real life Africans living or working in England during the Renaissance, with each chapter focusing on a different individual and what we know about them from parish records, legal documents etc. It's also a great primer on England's relationship with the slave trade and African nations from the 16th to 17th centuries. Also I listened to this on audiobook and the lady's voice is super soothing
Problematic gay rep
Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin (1956) - yeah okay turns out Baldwin is the GOAT of queer lit for a reason. I don't even like 20th century stuff but Baldwin can WRITE man I was sucked in! And David is the BLUEPRINT of problematic gay rep! I loved watching his awful decisions I hope he suffers eternally! It's a short and easy read and a classic for a reason do give it a chance
Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite/William Martin (1996) - I'm not sure if I'm deadnaming Martin here because I bought the book earlier this year and it was still being attributed to Poppy Z Brite so I guess it's being treated like an author pseudonym now? I think? Anyway, don't read this book unless you're a disgusting freak like me who enjoys torture porn. This book comes with every content warning under the sun and I had an AMAZING couple of afternoons reading this book. American Psycho, Jeffrey Dahmer and NBC Hannibal had a baby and Martin delivered it; it's a raw, twisted and angry scream into the void about AIDS, homeless queer youth, homophobia and cultural stigma, wrapped up in a bow made of intestines. I went into this book hoping to see people get tortured and came out of it quite melancholic with a lot to think about, and I accidentally got attached to the victim oops!
The Charioteer by Mary Renault (1953) - I was gonna make a non-problematic section just for this book but then I remembered all the rampant femmephobia xD and Ralph and Laurie would 100% be bootlicking gays against pride. This book personally isn't for me - it's a lot of love triangle nonsense - but I think the tumblr demographic is particularly primed for gay World War II love triangle stories, and it's a softer, happier love story than my other recs. Would recommend if you can get past the main characters being pick mes.
Manga
No Longer Human by Junji Ito (2019) - this is a story about being a bad person and ruining everyone's lives especially your own lol; I loved the original prose version, but Ito's spin of the story makes everything so much worse and if I hadn't literally read a book about irl paedophilia the month before I think this book would have put me in the angriest and most violent place I've been all year. Love gorgeous art? Love mental illness? Love despicable spineless main characters? Get on this
Other fiction
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (1980) - it took me a month to read this entire book. It's so self-indulgent and long winded and contrived and the big twist is laughable and I wouldn't have it any other way! It's just some old guy playing in his sand box with his little monk action figures and it's charming af. Plus the concept of a monastic murder mystery involving several orders of monks will never not be fun, and I'm biased towards the book cos my guess at the very start as to whodunnit was right >:) would recommend if you like Sherlock Holmes and long long diatribes about medieval Catholic geopolitics
Garth Marenghi's Terrortome by Garth Marenghi (2022) - this one's just a bit of a laff. The horror comedy ramblings of a man going stir crazy during COVID lockdowns. You don't need to have seen Garth Marenghi's Darkplace to understand the book but it is recommended if you can access it. Content warning for explicit man x typewriter
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (1962) - it's a modern day (relatively) witch story! Jackson was writing about and for all the weird autistic little girls out there with this one. It's a gothic murder mystery about two co-dependent sisters who are outcasts in their village. It was a great introduction to Jackson's work
#i've still got two more books to read before 2023 ends but I don't think they're gonna make the list so it's fine lol#books#reading#my reading#literature#bookblr#reading wrap up#book recommendations#book reccs

Is it okay if I just keep asking stuff cause I love the way you talk about the guys.
Can you talk about the boys when they were younger and they were first starting out to the growth theyâve achieved to now?
I think itâs so massive how much theyâve accomplished in 11 years!
ofc it's okay! much like ashton, i love the sound of my own voice, sođ
that was mostly but not entirely a jokeđ§Ą
5sos' entire story is incredibly fascinating to me, because when they started out as a four piece, they really were just a bunch of kids with a lofty dream. and i say "lofty" because most people who dream about being able to make a living from making music won't ever achieve it. granted, 5sos got lucky when they received a huge and very important push by getting to go on tour with 1d, a push that they likely wouldn't have made it this far, on this scale without, but fact of the matter is still that 5sos is a band that started out before any of the members were even of legal age, luke and calum were pretty far away from being of legal age actually, so the fact that they're still together when they're all closer to 30 than 20 is pretty astounding, itâs impressive as fuck, because somehow all four of them have evolved from teenagers to young adults to adults without turning into people who could no longer find enough common ground with the other band members for it to be possible to keep going in a productive and fulfilling way
not too long ago, i was talking to a friend about how in long term relationships, especially long term relationships between young people, the parties involved will often change and evolve in different directions rather than alongside each other. picture a tree; you start out existing on the same branch, but as time passes, the branch grows new twigs, and one of you might step onto one of those new twigs while the other remains on the original branch, or maybe you both step onto new twigs but separate ones. the result, in any case, is that you end up far away from each other. that's natural, it's normal, but it typically also ends with a breakup. that particular conversation was about romantic relationships between two people, but i think the main point is just as applicable to a friendship between four people. as already pointed out, 5sos were incredibly young when they started out, they were ages away from having become the people they were gonna be for a majority of their lives, they were still at the age where many people change personalities overnight on a weekly basis.
i wasn't around back then and even if i was, i definitely wouldn't have considered this at all, but the thing is that there was never any guarantee that those four little dudes who were each other's besties would evolve and mature into grown men who still have enough common ground to stick with each other, much less still love and trust each other as deeply as they (by all appearances) do. of course you can make the argument that because they to some degree grew up in each other's pockets, that raised the chances of them growing into similar-minded adults. but that type of nurture only goes so far, iâd argue that 1d is a prime example of that, and 5sos have become incredibly different types of people, actually, at least the way i see it, but their differences don't seem to be of the type that drive wedges between them but rather of the type that adds to their dynamics, both creatively and personally.
i also wanna bring back something i know iâve talked about before, at least once or twice in the tags if nowhere else, and thatâs the fact that 5sos have repeatedly chosen each other, over and over again, since the very beginning when calum had to choose between football and the band, and ashton had to choose between uni and the band. even when things have periodically gotten rough for them, even when they had other options for what to do and where to go, theyâve continued to choose each other, theyâve continued to choose the band. at first glance, that might seem like a very unimportant detail, but personally i think itâs of absolute importance, because i imagine that at many points throughout their history, throwing in the towel and parting ways would likely have been the easier path to take while choosing to carry on was a path filled with obstacles.
we, as a fandom, talk a lot about 5sos being soulmates and whatnot, and ashton and calum seem to be into that idea as well, and thatâs incredibly sweet, itâs very sentimental. but seen from a more grounded and perhaps cynical point of view, i think itâs important to remember that theyâve likely had to put in a lot of conscious effort over the years to remain close, to become the people they need to be for the band to keep going, to have landed in a place where they have this profound love and respect for each other.
theyâve compared their relationship to a marriage a few times recently, and for most people, a marriage/a long term relationship isnât easy sailing year after year, it requires hard work to keep the spark and the passion and the love alive once the novelty of it all starts wearing off. if you look at their entire history, from the very beginning in 2011 to present day, iâd say that the road theyâve walked together is very similar to one a married couple might walk; they started out all excited and giddy, everything was fun, nothing was a problem (2011-2015), then things slowly started getting more challenging until they were struggling to keep it going and it started to seem like more hassle than it was worth (2016) but they chose to push through their issues, both personal and professional ones, as a unit (2017-2019), and then came some forced time apart (2020), which seems to have enabled them to grow as individuals and gain a whole new level of appreciation for each other, and thatâs where weâre at today (2021 ->)
ashton said earlier this year that choosing to be in the band is a daily choice he makes, and if we assume that the other three share that mindset, i gotta say that i find that incredibly fucking beautiful, because i canât think of a greater love declaration than someone basically saying âloving you and what we have requires a continuously active effort, itâs not always easy, but i still choose to stayâ
theyâre no longer the bright eyed, naĂŻve, easily exciteable teenagers they were when they started the band, theyâre far more tempered, calculating and realistic about things these days, but rather than letting the reality of life and what it means to grow up weigh them down and kill their passion and their desire to keep 5sos alive, it seems to me that theyâve taken all the hardships life has thrown at them and turned them into valuable lessons that theyâve utilised to grow as individuals and strengthen their relationship as a group. theyâve said themselves this era that theyâve never been stronger as a unit than they are now, and it showsđť

What have I been up to..?
Good question, uh. Working! On an original project/world/whatever! A story, thatâs what Iâm telling⌠well, multiple stories. Thereâs a few âmainâ stories and Iâm gonna go over the characters involved there!
welcome to the world of Anthos, this is only one of many posts (I hope)
First up: the adventurerâs guild gang!
Fern, Sora and Kyne are childhood friends who drifted apart, now brought together as a team of adventurers in the Adventurerâs Guild, going by Team Wander! Together, they explore the world, and try to solve the mystery of their parentsâ disappearance, 11 years ago.
Fern Valerian is a cheerful and peppy fighter, who tackles most problems with brute force and a smile! Her weapon of choice is a hammer. Alongside adventuring, she has a love for fashion, food, and the occasional prank.
Sora Valerian is Fernâs twin brother, and the calmer of the two. Although he enjoys fighting, he sees fighting as a second option- at least, when dealing with people. Heâs much more interested in the âexploringâ part of adventuring. Heâs the crafty type- being skilled in woodcarving and sewing.
Kyne Mestri is the teamâs voice of reason⌠most of the time anyway, the one mage on the team who utilizes a variety of combat magic. Sheâs primarily a researcher- previously handling her branch of the Guildâs records and histories. She always thinks ahead and has a plan. She enjoys reading, as well as various looking into mysteries. She also enjoys ghost stories⌠but thatâs more of a secret.
Setting out from the town of Helivale, a cozy village nestled deep within a forest, a trio makes their way out into the world, with the goal to simply explore and experience things. Helivale is a unique town- aside from the three organic inhabitants, its citizens are all robots. This will be important.
Violet Historia (Full name and title being Lady Violet Florian Aeris Historia), is the last living member of the Historia family- the noble clan that founded Helivale and built the robots that inhabit it. Violet is a sheltered child- primarily by choice. She doesnât interact with any of the robots, and only talks to Nikolas. Her friend and mentor/tutor.
Nikolas Morien is a skilled artificer who lives in Helivale by choice. The peace and quiet is perfect for research, and fixing up the robots makes for good practice. Heâs the inquisitive type, and managed to meet Violet by accident. Befriending her and forming a bond with her. After some time of this, the robots of Helivale request Nikolas to take Violet away from the town. Nothing changes here- and a young lady such as herself deserves to see and experience the world. Nikolas agrees, and their journey begins.
Bell is Nikolasâs cat, and a troublemaker. She is very important.
Far away from the mainland, lies the island of Elpis. Home to the long-living and serene Lumerians, whoâve ruled over the island for ages, as well as various other humans. Ages ago, the peaceful life on the island was nearly destroyed by a war- one that still may have an affect on the island even today.
Eden is Elpisâs hero and crown heir, having sustained countless wounds fighting in the war ages ago, they were set into a stasis slumber to restore their strength, only awakening recently. Memories slightly scrambled and thrown into an unrecognizable world, theyâre unsure of how to proceed.
Valeria is a priestess of the Light Gods, whose sanctuary was where Eden slept. Valeria was the one to discover them awake, and do her best to assist them. She wants to forge a friendship with them, despite everything.
Ahaha so uh. Yep. Thatâs them! The main characters (the ones that exist anyway)
thereâs several other characters too! Team Wanderâs rivals, various other characters met by several people, entire other LOCATIONS, I havenât covered, adventurerâs guild members, and more! As well as various other bits of background lore- what little worldbuilding there is.
feel free to ask me anything about this, I will gladly answer!
if you read this far, thank you for reading! It means a lot.
#arti oc tag#anthos stuff#PLEASE ask me about this I will have so much fun answering#want to see other characters? I got u

I'm still not allowing myself to be excited for the One Piece live action but after having seen the trailer a few more times I'll say that as long as the pacing is good (bad pacing trips me up so hard) and the show captures the essence and spirit of the story, I won't hate it.
I just hope the rest of the writing is better than that "Not a crew" scene, I'm still not very happy with that. Sure, a lot of the comedy from the manga and the anime doesn't translate very well into live action but they can still bring out the silly parts without relying on the same kind of 0815 quips that are used by every action adventure movie since the beginning of the MCU.
Something I didn't learn until today is that Oda himself was heavily involved in the adaptation, including greenlighting the cast, which I guess gives me a little more confidence that the show won't be a trashfire.
I really like the cast (and now that I know Oda gave his okay for Nami's and Sanji's actors I'm putting my earlier reservations to the side), I like their energy, I highly appreciate their love for the One Piece universe, so I have a feeling they may be my favorite part of the adaptation.
Something that's also been pointed out is that the characters are wearing a lot of outfits from color spreads from the manga, which is really cool, I like that a lot, it gives them realistic costume changes while still staying true to their designs.
As for some of the criticism I've seen float around the tag:
"WHY ISN'T LUFFY WEARING FLIP FLOPS????" I was a little put off by that at first, too, but I honestly doubt that we'll pay a whole lot of attention to his feet when we watch the actual show (and who knows, maybe they'll show up at some point)
"WHERE IS SANJI'S CURLY BROW??????" This is probably completely a Me thing but when I watched the trailer for the first time I didn't even notice that because I was honestly much more worried about his hair before the trailer was released; I totally get that him not having the curly brow is a little disappointing and leaves out some of the greatest bickering between him and Zoro, but it's still possible that they'll bring it into the show some other way, even if he doesn't have it all the time; same goes for the smoking (which, given that it's an American production that is aimed at kids, isn't really surprising, since smoking/tobacco is its own content warning on American TV), we might see him light a cigarette here and there but we were never gonna see him chainsmoke the way he does in the manga/anime
"WHAT ABOUT USOPP'S NOSE????" Okay, let's be real here, had they given Usopp his Pinocchio nose through either CGI or VFX make-up, everyone probably would have complained how stupid and cringe it looks translated into live action; Jacob has a very expressive face that more than makes up for the lack of the Pinocchio nose in my opinion, but maybe that's just me (Jacob was also the first cast member I was fully on board with from the start, so maybe I'm biased, but that's how I feel)
"BUGGY LOOKS TOO SCARY" Guys, we only got one shot of him and we don't know the context for it; maybe this is his introductory shot, maybe this is a special dramatic shot, maybe this is how other people describe him, we just don't know; just wait until the show is out
"THE FOOTAGE IS TOO YELLOW" While it is likely that this is the final color grading, it's also possible that the final color grading wasn't done by the time they put the trailer together (like, some of the shots look like the yellow isn't as strong), they still have more than two months until release, they could still be doing final tweaks until then; and maybe they wanted to emphasize Luffy's sunny personality, who knows, the cinematography probably looks different in emotional scenes
Also, and this is only of interest to my fellow Germans, the German anime voice cast is dubbing the show, so I might actually watch it both in the original version and with the German voices because the nostalgia is reaaaaaaaallll
Be still, my heart, so you won't be disappointed, but be hopeful, be so so hopeful đĽ˛

this isnât how it works but i'm gonna do it anyway (tony hawks regular voice)
đą havenât posted anything yet so: bookmarks 147 and gifts 1 :)
đ i got into writing fanfics a long time ago when i discovered fanfiction.net as pretty much a kid and i thought "hey that's neat maybe i can make my own little stories" and since then have never totally finished a fanfic đ it's called cosmic dread and it's terminal
đľ not particularly writing music (but yeah it still works) and not a playlist (a beautiful album), just want to share because sturge Should be shared: https://spotify.link/ofKYQWtEjIb
đŻ eugh. like a 4 for editing. it's a love/hate relationship and i'm not sure which of us is in the wrong. we might be doomed (shaky soap opera breath) but i still love him...
đź oooh. okay. đ¤đđĽâ ď¸đ¤ ??? is this anything ???
đĽ i know who's going to send me some obscure gifs and tumblr posts about it
𼤠ahhh. i immediately wanna recommend cargocrate's star wars stuff but this is a trek/tng blog. we're not mutuals but damsondaforge's work is amazing and hits all the right spots đŤś
đ please donât ever ask me that again. we don't say that e-word around here
đť my bestie juniper :) i love u i hope ur blossoming in ur new job weehee
đ i'm... going to assume reader-insert means (Y/N)? i don't like reading or writing reader-inserts (sorry) because it doesnât feel believable, to me or the audience i'm writing for. i'd rather get lost in a story than have to talk myself INTO a story everytime the reader insert does something i wouldnât do. i love original characters though, we need more of those beauties
đ§ mm that's easy, this is like my first ever post on this blog. i'm a dog groomer and i almost faint when a dog slobbers on me đ
đ˛ ha! free time. what a concept! i get maybe 3 hours a week that i can confidently label as free time
đ favourite dataforge headcanon: data is the little spoon and i'm right
𧸠make me smile or laugh or cry (not in a mean way, i'm just an emotional guy)
đŞ my niece! she's the best 4 year old ever, i love her. i guess work is going well but i'm expanding the business so those three hours of spare time are in dangerous waters. my gender transition is chugging along nicely too, just waiting for my hrt appointment next month and i'm firmly on the wait list for top surgery. woohoo!
đ a dog on the cancellation list (chow called sui mai đ§Ą), supplies i need to order for the salon and some crime shows my writing workshop suggested (e.g. taggart, cracker, trial and retribution etc.)
đŹ i'm pretty sure i don't have any unpopular opinions about any of the tng characters. i'm just like sitting here until u hear some unexpected snarling and frothing macbeth-style
đŞ weirdest topic has probably been about go karting and homelessness and any possible connections there. please donât ask
𦷠nobody is assigned a timeline. do things in your own time and enjoy the seconds, minutes and hours. depression is a terrible beast that gnashes those second hands between its teeth, but once you reclaim your life - go and live it. make decisions and follow through
âď¸ oooh i'm not sharing that on the big wide web but cargocrate would turn any old dust into gold. trust that guy with my life
đż oof. writer's block, for me, can be defined as low confidence and nothing more or less. what you write isnât good enough, how you write isnât good enough, who you write isnât good enough. it's tricky but writer's block can only be conquered by practising and improving, having a strong support network of like-minded people (other writers, not just people who like to read), a healthy feedback system for all involved and a life to live and experience (to inform your work and to help create ideas). often, writer's block is just the wall you erected yourself and you're panicking because your view is limited. let go of ego, let go of the block
đĽ "minion... is that your pinis...?"
đ i havenât received ao3 comments but feedback from friends is Always useful :D i prefer honesty, and i love it when people tell me what i can try in order to make the piece work better. but you can't go wrong with a solid "AAAAA-"
đŚ augh god i'm gonna get blasted but i really dislike tasha yar's character. i could talk about the technicals that led to this conclusion but we want some good things, so. i like that she was a symbol for women, at the time of airing and still today, to pursue a career that's male-dominated, and the respect she commanded in the position. i enjoyed how unapologetically stubborn she could be with safety of the crew. i honestly cannot summon more thoughts, i'm so sorry tasha
đĽ i don't lie, or i at least don't make a habit of it. i used to lie as a kid (because i got myself into some difficult situations) but hated the feeling of it. i think the last time i lied was a couple of weeks ago when i told my boss the writing workshop had gone well, but i hadn't actually gone. i'd been so defeated by period cramps that i was worried about driving on the motorway - but i wasn't about to shout this across the salon where everyone could hear
đŚ ocean vuong is always on my heart and mind. but also that fucking data & picard song. it's ripping me to pieces. i've almost memorised picard's security code
𦴠mm. science fiction in general is a huge imspiration to me, as well as drama, but my biggest helper isn't media, it's poetry :)
đ
my biggest weakness with writing is dialogue, i think. i've always struggled with it because i struggle anticipating what Real people are going to say to me, let alone the fictional people in my head. i need to work more on drip-feeding character through dialogue and drive stories forward using it
đ it depends on the surprise lmao. if i have to go/be somewhere specific for the surprise, i would really rather people tell me what it is and let me choose if it's worth the time. if it's like a takeaway dinner or some extra dessert i didnât know about, i'd be a fucking Fool in the tarot deck to turn it away
𪲠again, this feels like an opportunity for people to steal my work so nah i won't be sharing my wip on here. the wip will be shared when it's no longer a wip !
âď¸ an old chat with a friend. not sure how we got talking about it but we wanted to know what we'd each look like as a plate. crate thought i'd be orange and a little wonky and i thought he'd be green and patterned. since then, i've always thought of myself as the wonky orange plate :)
đ i really only have a couple of friends and this post is making light work of my records đ okay i'll play the sentimental card instead and say, my mother. we never used to get along and came to blows (verbally) nearly every week, but much of that was my own fault for being such an angry child. i was acting out of hurt, but i shouldnât have taken it out on her. now, we live and work together, and i can easily call her one of my best friends đ§Ą
đ¸ mattie! he's a rescued greyhound from the racing industry over in ireland. i love him with my whole and fragile heart
đ¨ hhhh there are too many pieces of fanart out there...... but i'm always a sucker for A Fistful Of Datas fanart đ
𧊠mischaracterisation! ooc! no paragraphs/strange formatting! extremely Long paragraphs! infodumping! a genuine lack of interest to create a story that moves people (this one is tricky to define but, essentially, no substance whatsoever)!

Animated critical role rambling- possible spoilers if you haven't seen S3 trailer or heard some of the hints being dropped at cons by the cast.
I for one actually am quite fine, even thrilled, with the idea that there will be edits made to LOVM and even M9 animated shows to deviate them a bit from the live play. There's definitely (bathtub) scenes I really hope to see in particular, but I just saw it's been teased that the LOVM trip to hell may dredge up some EXU: Calamity stuff and seriously I am for that.
I view it like the differences between book and movie- and also just... look, I want the main story beats, and also yeah the stories between all CR campaigns are intertwined in ways that weren't gonna be visible in C1 or C2 and I am absolutely FINE with throwing that stuff together early in the name of a smoother serial storytelling.
And there's absolutely stuff that happened in the live games I won't miss if it's left out, and if a few things I wish were in aren't (BATHTUB?) I won't be heartbroken. I just want a familiar-enough-that-my-anxiety-lets-me-watch-it fantasy story told in really damn good animation and LOVM, esp in S2, was delivering on that.
I think anyone who didn't go into seeing animated CR with the understanding that 1000's of hours of live play being condensed into a smoothly paced story that's comprehensible to people who've also never watched the live plays meant changes were going to happen were kind of just not thinking it through.
Especially when we're gonna have seasons of animation for TWO campaigns running in tandem, at that. And I would again, much rather there be tweaks to LOVM and M9 animated than have to wait for LOVM to be done with (hopefully) 5 or so seasons before stepping into M9.
Anyway I just saw a clip of a hint that LOVM going to Hell in S3 rather than fire plane may involve Xerxes from EXU:Calamity and I almost screamed. And I am not going to lie also if at some point Brennan Lee Mulligan voices Azmodius in animated I am going to completely lose my fucking mind and go fully feral because MY GOD his Azmodius was amazing.
PPPS-
Any followers of mine who like good animation and good fantasy and are OK with some toilet humor and bawdiness and some animated gore, if you haven't looked into Legend of Vox Machina, even if you never were into CR, I do still rec it? The first 2 episodes go a little buckwild with the bawdy and toilet humor and some puking to sort of I guess 'warn' what sort of show it is, but then stuff smooths out to what I at least feel is a very good balance of funny and heartfelt and gory. Ep 1-2 give a decent idea of the BASEST baseline of the characters and set up some plot stuff, and then ep 3 of S1 takes off, and S2 gets even better than S1 which already I loved.
The love of animation and anime as an art form held by the original cast and the animation studio is fully on display, the cinematography and camera work and fight scenes have some truly epic moments and they are NOT ashamed of their anime roots while still having a more western feel to things too.
And for people who like to go 'aaaargh' over how some modern shows seem to need to hold hands, LOVM doesn't. You may miss important plot ticks that are hinted at, or forget something you did notice earlier but there's just- massively important shit sometimes going on in just background conversations and little moments that seem almost throwaway or ignored that do Come Back.
Anyway I need more people I can enthuse with over this T_T I acknowledge I'm not as excited for Veilguard as many of my best friends and mutuals (I'm looking forward to it mind you) but in return most of them aren't as excited as me about this lololol.
