Hey! I hope this isn't weird ajndkgs but I was looking at your Ao3 and I saw that you posted two fics for a different fandom? and I read them because I love your ETN stuff and I just love both of those fics a lot kdfjgd
I really liked seeing the Tyler and Vince fic it reminded me alot of the same themes in ETN. Hope you keep writing more ajnkfngd sorry if this is weird
hello!! this absolutely isn't weird at all! for starters, i adore asks : be it people telling me about something or asking for some insight. and secondly, i'm very flattered you even read anything outside my etn stuff? especially considering it isn't a fandom you seem familiar with! i remember when i posted those fics on ao3 since there were times where i considered just making a new account, to let witchytwitchy just be etn related, but i decided to post anyways. it is my account and i do wanna keep it as such, even if it will forever stay a little etn-centric. all that aside, i didn't think any of the people who enjoyed my previous work would give the new ones a read, so this is touching to know! thanks for sending this in and telling me <3 it's quite the needed ego boost haha.
as for similar themes between escape the night and as dusk falls, i think my media and ships always have a type, so to speak. i'm drawn to tragedy and meeting others in passing who end up haunting you forever ; people who wear multiple clothes ( murderer, victim, stranger, human ) out of necessity but also an underlying sense of self. media that delves into darkness happens to produce really complex dynamics as well, which is a bonus for me! aka someone who mainly writes shipfic, or ambiguous dynamics, in some regard. vince and tyler are special to me because of this! there are these roles they must play, different skins worn because that's just how it is -- tyler's a captor, he's the one holding the gun, he's the one murdering and controlling, meanwhile vince is a literal hostage in all this. but he's been a hostage long before meeting tyler! has been held captive by expectations and his wife and being pushed around. though when you look deeper, these roles switch. tyler's only the one in control when his master isn't around, and vince is a natural born fighter, someone not easily tamed or broken down. so these two happen to have this interesting overlap of switching. something that etn is all about! everyone plays murder or victim, bad guy or good guy, enemy or friend. this is something interchangeable and neverending. destorm is alex's victim but a murderer first and foremost while alex was a victim before ever turning into a killer. and, in a way, they become each other due to this overlap ... does that make sense? like, the roles just change. it's a case of : we killed each other out of necessity. but sometimes it was want. you can always blur those lines, want or need, you can use those excuses to justify obsession or why you feel so passionately about a person. i find characters fun when they hide behind things like good vs bad, when there's all this common sense and they disregard it to act erratically. another good etn example of this would be lele and matt from s1! they hate each other, voice this consistently, they want each other dead, yet anytime the group splits they're almost always with each other. they grab, they cling, they touch one another as if it's that simple. as if they don't hate each other at all. it's fascinating! i think it's easy for people to use hate ( or 'roles' ) as a way of not addressing what they feel, and i also believe this hate never really exists. despite all the rivals in etn i don't think anyone truly hates each other, it's merely better to pretend they do. makes the process of killing people less burdensome. makes any other unwanted feelings go down the goblet faster too.
ahem! obviously, as dusk falls isn't a sick and twisted death game dealing with the supernatural. the plot is quite simplistic : here are these two families and then here's a hostage situation. things get a bit deeper, there's sprinkles of mystery, implications that these families have been entangled for longer than any of them know ... but the core concept is the same. vince, a family man, is moving cross country with his turbulent family and happens to get hit by tyler and his brothers, effectively wrecking their vehicle. leaving the walkers ( vince's family! ) with little choice but to stay at a nearby motel, unaware that the holts ( tyler's family! ) are going to swing by later on pure coincidence because their house robbery goes astray. they're strangers! but their paths cross and it changes their lives. as i said, etn-core. there's tons of violence between tyler and vince specifically, with both of them feeling obligated to do what's right by their family ; a similarity that tyler even attempts calling out. gosh, there's, ah, a lot there <3 tyler/vince have such a bond that can only be described as tender and raw, the two being parallels and foils, so i'm so glad you liked the fic! if things go to plan there'll be more eventually. october might be busy with preptober stuff & my birthday, plus an etn fic nagging at my brain, but i'm scrounging together something for november/december. hopefully, anyway.
oh, maybe one of the shared themes you picked up on was the fact i'm chronically in niche media and rare pair hell. because that's a big comparison too haha.
