It hadnā€™t escaped Quirrelā€™s notice. The way Kiolos looked at Vherra, the way he clung to the cloak the strange Vhessen had given him. The way he seemed to miss him when he was gone. It was as clear as day to the old bug; heā€™d seen that look before. He knew the scent that came from Kiolos sometimes, and knew what urges it revealed.Ā  Kiolos knew none of this. He didnā€™t understand the way Vherra made him feel. It was warm, and nice, but confusing. New, and that was enough to make him anxious and unsure.Ā  Quirrel, out of all of those Kiolos knew, was the most level headed. The calmest. The one he trusted the most. The Isovian decided to take Kiolos aside, to talk to him, to help him come to terms with all these new thoughts and feelings. It started with casual conversation for a bit, before Quirrel brought it up.Ā  ā€œIā€™ve noticed you seem very fond of Vherra.ā€ He said.Ā  Kiolos shifted a bit,Ā  head tilting. His antennae flicked back with a subtle change in posture, almost like a blush. He nodded.Ā  ā€œI do.ā€ He said, trailing the claws of his natural hand along the smooth metal of his prosthetic arm.Ā ā€œHe makes me feel very warm and safe, but ā€¦ when I am close, it is confusing, too. Itā€™s likeā€¦ā€ Kiolos tried to gather the words, to try to describe it.Ā ā€œI donā€™tā€¦ know what it is. Itā€™s like I want somethingā€¦ā€ ā€œI think I know what you mean. Here.ā€ Quirrel set a book in front of Kiolos.Ā ā€œItā€™s something that can be a little awkward to talk about, at times; read this book in private so you can process it comfortably. It will explain these feelings and urges you are getting. Itā€™s entirely natural, donā€™t worry.ā€ He said, noticing the almost worried way Kiolos shifted. Kiolos relaxed at that reassurance. Kiolos nodded and took the book quietly, seeming lost in thought until he heard Quirrel speak again. ā€œI am going to be honest, I think you see Vherra asā€¦ more than a friend.ā€ Quirrel continued.Ā ā€œBut, of course, donā€™t feel pressured to tell him or talk to him about it until you are ready. Once you are, I think you should because I have a feeling he feels the same about you. After all youā€™ve been through, you deserve to be happy.ā€ Kiolos listened to all of it, antennae flicking slowly. While he himself wasnā€™t familiar with the feeling of emotion and was still coming to terms with being allowed to express it and even have it, he had heard a bit about it, and read a bit as well. It got his gears turning. He turned to look at the book again. It was meant for young Enterrans entering the confusing process of puberty, to educate them as they were aging into their adult bodies; having new instincts and urges; maturing. While Kiolos had been fully mature for a long time now, there were certain sides of himself heā€™d never really explored before. The book would handle it in a safe, healthy way that he could understand. He was quiet for a few minutes more, before looking over at Quirrel.Ā  ā€œI will read it, thank you.ā€ He said. Quirrel gave his knee a gentle pat as he stood. Kiolos stood as well and headed back to the white palace ruins and into his bedroom to read.

The still, silent statue in the courtyard of the City of Tears stood glistening in the light of the lumafly lanterns amidst the constant pattering of rain. It brought mixed feelings to Kiolos, who stood in silence, leaning on his walking staff. He grew tired quickly, something that had not left him since his time in thatā€¦ place. He didnā€™t even like thinking about the name of it. The darkness, the burning and mocking laughter of the Radiance in his mind, her cruel words picking away at him untilā€¦
ā€œIn the Black Vault far above. Through its sacrifice Hallownest lasts eternal.ā€ The voice reading aloud was unnatural and guttural. More a strange, beastly growl forced into words than a voice. It startled Kiolos so much his claws skittered on the wet stone. His antennae tucked against his horns as he almost fell on his rear, only the walking staff keeping him upright.ā€Fat lot of good that did, eh?ā€ The other finished. Kiolos turned to face the other, cautious with his head low. They were Vhessen, but thick and powerful in build, a little taller than him. Their right horn was broken off, revealing the dark bone beneath, a huge hole shattered in their mask, revealing one glowing white shade-eye staring fiercely from the blackness. Their cloak-like wings hung tattered behind them, their body riddled in scars of all sorts. They didnā€™t appear to carry a weapon, but with the Lumafly lantern light glinting off of long, wicked claws and jagged, powerful jaws, Kiolos doubted they needed one.Ā
The look on the otherā€™s face changed the instant Kiolos turned to face them. Recognition hit like a wall of cold water, sending a rush up their spine, ending in their head. ā€œI ah.. I mean, I didnā€™tā€¦ uh.. I didnā€™t know that was you there.ā€ They rumbled in the most awkward apology imaginable. This one clearly didnā€™t apologize often. Kiolos relaxed slightly once the startle wore off. ā€˜Itā€™s ā€¦ fine.ā€™ Kiolos said, after a moment of silence. ā€˜You simply startled me. Iā€¦ come back here, sometimes. Just to think.ā€™
Void speech? That was something the big Vhessen didnā€™t hear often. ā€œI just came to have a look at the place.ā€ The big Vhessen shrugged their shoulders a bit. ā€œLooks like it was quite the city, once.ā€ ā€˜It was.ā€™ Kiolos lapsed into silence again, his gaze still planted on that statue - the statue that had been the hope of the entire kingdom. The kingdom that he failed.. The storm of thoughts didnā€™t leave. ā€œI bet you didnā€™t have a choice in the whole matter, eh?ā€ Rumbled the other Vhessen, making Kiolos jump again. The other immediately looked apologetic again. ā€˜Itā€™sā€¦. Fine.ā€™ Kiolos repeated, quietly. ā€˜Itā€™sā€¦ complicated. I was chosen, pure. Without thought, or voice, or feeling..ā€™ His voidspeech shook a bit. ā€˜I failed my fath.. The King. I failed the Kingdom, as well.ā€™ It spilled out more readily than usual. Maybe because he didnā€™t know this strange Vhessen standing there at the memorial. He didnā€™t have to worry about disappointing them.
ā€œAnd then used as a tool by your King, I take it?ā€ Perhaps a hint of bitterness, but more than that a quiet understanding. ā€˜ā€¦. Yeah. A tool. Nothing more. A tool that failed.ā€™ Kiolos said, his voidspeech so soft the other barely heard the end of it.Ā
Ā Kiolos jumped slightly once more when he felt the otherā€™s hand lightly settle on his shoulder. It took his mind out of the swirling storm of thoughts that threatened to overtake his mind, though, so he didnā€™t mind. ā€œBah, fuck that.ā€ The other commented, matter of factly. The loose use of swearing surprised Kiolos again, who turned to face the other, head tilted slightly to the side. ā€œKings will be Kings, fools who use others around them and never see their true worth. They never see you for who you are. All they see is what you can do for them. Donā€™t blame yourself for what that King forced you to do. I heard the story. He pissed off some Moth Bitch, Moth Bitch made a kingdom sick with some infection goo shit, and he thought he could use some Hollow Vessel to contain her. Bahā€¦ everybody knows you canā€™t have life without feeling. He should have known that. He should have found some other way to deal with the Moth Bitch.ā€ A very soft huff came from Kiolos, a voiceless laugh, slightly amused by the other. ā€˜Thatā€™sā€¦ ah.. Thatā€™s a way to put it. While some call me Hollow, or the Hollow Knight, I simply go by Kiolos. You?ā€™ ā€œThe nameā€™s Vherra. Means Nothing. Trash. Worthless.ā€ He smirked a bit, perhaps bitterly. He saw the look on Kiolosā€™ face, the position of his antennae, felt him place his remaining hand, so delicate and slender, on his. ā€œIā€™m fine, though.ā€ he added, a bit reassuringly as he withdrew his hand from Kiolos shoulder and rubbed at the back of his neck a bit. ā€œDoesnā€™t bother me, really.ā€ Vherra shook his head a few times, a few drops of water flying off, though the constant pattering rain replaced them immediately. ā€˜Letā€™s get somewhere a bit more dry.ā€™ Kiolos offered, observing the otherā€™s brief annoyance at the sopping, soaking wet that permeated the City of Tears. The walking staff left where he had set it, forgotten for the moment, he reached his one hand to take Vherraā€™s hand gently. Vherra took his hand and followed him through the remains of the city and into one of the still intact buildings, where the two settled quietly side by side to watch the rain streak against the large window, the constantly, softly falling rain the only sound to fill the silence of the quiet, still remains of what had been a great city.

dude what kind of answer was that for real, I know you were in character for all that but? " they're trying to show off how progressive they are? " " -deluding themselves into thinking they have a higher moral ground? " " they're just trying to feel better about their poor pathetic lives? " dude we were just stating a fact, I know these are your characters and all but that felt more than shitty to reply with to a Fact. your characters, their mindset but that's just too much
((That's Vherra. He's an asshole who doesn't mince words. That's how he is. Who he is. The reason why will be revealed as more stuff is explored about him, but he has his own reasons to be so impulsive. His thoughts aren't going to be perfect or right every single time. If they were, that would be boring, he would just be another Mary Sue, and there would be no chance for him to grow as a character and learn. If you were paying attention, you would also notice how Kiolos talked him down. It simply displayed how they are very different individuals, but manage to play off of eachother in a way that benefits them both. Vherra helped Kiolos stand up for himself, while Kiolos helped curb Vherra's impetuous, fighty nature into simply telling the person off instead of taking more violent means as he would have normally. Vherra is incredibly combative and impulsive, and, just like any other person, may not be the most tactful in how he says things. He was protecting his friend, who was made uncomfortable by others trying to dictate his identity. His reaction was very realistic.
Do I have to post a disclaimer that the characters here are not me? And that they each have their own views and ways of handling things? That I will write them as themselves? Because I really should not have to, but it might end up being necessary. That should be obvious.
My story is my story, and it's not going to be all sunshine, rainbows and butterflies. Characters will have dark thoughts. Characters will have bad reactions to things. They won't always react perfectly. But they will also have the chance learn and grow as people. Don't like it? You don't have to follow or read it. You don't have to like the character. I am not going to change a character because somebody got offended. If it offended you... That's on you. Too many people change things because somebody got offended, but I am not going to do that. This is my story to tell, and I am gonna tell it in the way I want to. Instead of getting offended, just... Move on. It wasn't an attack against you or anybody else and if you thought it was... Well, that's your own fault for assuming. You know what they say about assuming, right?))
