Pairing: OC High Lord of Dusk x Archeron!Sister

Summary: Reverie Archeron has always been different. Different in a good or bad way depends on who you asked. Now a High Fae, and with another war approaching she tries to be as helpful as she can around Velaris and with her baby nephew, but at a High Lord meeting, the countless dreams she has as a child and the feelings that are not quite hers suddenly make sense and things become something that she never could have seen coming.

CHAPTER II: BY EVENFALL

Raised in a court that was cut off from the outside world by over 700 years when he was born Ophiuchus always had a certain longing on learning what was outside the barrier that marked the end of the territory he was to be the High Lord off.

His mother often chastised him when he would try to push against the barrier. He was but a kid and many had tried, their best scholars, warrior but to no avail.

‘Maybe there’s a reason why it’s there Ophi.’ She would say.

His grandfather had been worried that the barrier would somehow destroy those inside but it didn’t. So the court moved on.

Day to day life continued.

Shortly after Ophiuchus, 70th birthday it came down, out of nowhere and everyone while curious were simultaneously wary, specially considering the silent sickness that had taken a lot of citizens including Ophiuchus’ grandfather and mother.

As High Lord he sprung into action, if they were still there, the other courts that is, a High Lord meeting was very much a pressing matter. He needed to know the outside and who to align himself with.

And since his grandmother had been from the winter court, it’s high lord was the one who received his letter.

Kallias — Ophiuchus would learn the other male name when his response came — was quick to tell him what had happened since the dome fell around Dusk.

Tales of a greedy ruthless female, of curses and traps and backstabbing and magic and a so called King with his treachery, only like those Ophiuchus had come across in the old scripts.

Sisters made Fae by the Calderon and from the power of the High Lords.

And now, a so called God and more curses.

And by end an invitation, to go to Winter Court, as he would take upon himself hosting.

“You’re going then?” Ophiuchus turned towards his cousin, Ayla.

“I feel like it’s for the best if I do. Silas and Elia agree.”

“Silas and Elia do agree on the matter of the High Lord going. I’m asking you, are you going there for yourself or that is something along the fact of the dreams you been having?”

Her comment makes him look at her in slight surprise.

“You’re rather easy to read, cousin, I’ve know you my whole life,” Ayla says with a small smile, “you believe you will find her there, don’t you?”

“Maybe. I do not know.”

“You always tended to be drawn to the barrier no matter when. Aunt Althea always had to keep you from pressing further into it.”

“I do recall that.” Ophiuchus says with a sigh before allowing himself to sit at the chair of his office, eyes drifting to the city.

The capital of Dusk curt, Euryphaessa sat by the coastal side, and sprawling into the large mountain where the Castle and a lot of houses stood.

“There’s also the fact if she will even wish to come here.” Ophiuchus says, eyes still overlooking the city. “We are probably but a myth, a bed time story. Many probably don’t even know of our existence.”

“Mating bonds are cherished no matter what the court, my dear cousin. No matter what subculture they are raised in. Your mate will know of the responsibilities you hold.” Ayla says softly in a comforting tone.

“I can only hope you’re right, Ayla.” Ophiuchus sighs, fidgeting with the ring he was given eons ago by his mother.

A golden stone that looked odd even by the standards of all the unique colored stones they had at dawn.

“Are you coming with?” He asks after a large beat of silence that befalls the two both lost in their heads.

“Do I seem like I’m passing up going and seeing another court? No way.” Ayla says, before she moves, squeezing, Ophiuchus shoulder, “I shall tell the others.”

The reason Elias fell for you was never because of your appearance. He just loves and craves for your attention and validation. He is pretty but that’s pretty much the only quality he has. Surprisingly enough he was born into a pretty normal family with a pretty normal name which he changed to Elias later on because he thought his old name wouldn’t impress you.

He doesn’t exactly have hobbies or special skills so he’s a little self conscious. If you insulted his appearance he’d quickly break because he believes that’s his only good quality. If that quality is also worthless then why does he exist?

That’s one of the reasons his jealousy temper tantrums are so bad, he’s convinced you could leave someone boring like him easily so his guard is up 24/7

Similarly to Silas he would try to change his appearance to fit to your liking but would be more extreme at it. If you don’t stop him he might even end up getting multiple plastic surgeries.

He lives to be validated by you, you’re the prettiest existence in his eyes and he wants to be like that for you too

The brothers all sat around a table, the smell of barbecued meat wafting from a covered plate, along with the sickly sweet stench of apple pie appearing from time to time before it had been placed on the table at the very end.

It looked like a feast fit for a king. But there were no kings. Simply four men, four brothers, brothers that had been ripped apart and put back together.

Amos looked around the table, his eyes settling on Silas as he held out his hands. “Let’s say grace.” He simply stated, his eyes dancing between Caleb and his two elder brothers that seemed not to happy to do so. But they grabbed his hands either way.

The room seemed silent until Silas began to speak, his eyes closed and head tilted up, dim light shining upon him. “Dear Lord, thank you for this food we are about to eat. We are grateful for Your provision. We ask that You would bless this food and continue to guide our family along Your path. In the name of Your son Jesus,” Silas mumbled, feeling as Amos grip loosened after a while, clearly Amos seemed more uncomfortable about this due to the memories that came back bit by bit.

“Amen.” all four stated in unison, silence overtaking them once more before John would stand, grabbing some plates before handing one each to his brothers.

John’s brows furrowed the moment a few pieces of meat had been placed on his plate, his stomach churning as his teeth bit onto his tongue, his eyes looking over to the knife in hesitance.

Amos ran a hand through his shaggy hair, saliva pooling in his mouth at the sight of food. Actual home cooked food. He’d been surviving off of cheap fast food and food scraps for so long that he was sure he could cry.

Caleb attempted to put at least two or three pieces, trying to preserve his appetite, yet John stopped him - putting more onto his plate. “You gotta eat, don’t think I didn’t notice.” John told him, his voice gentle but stern as he placed one final piece before sitting back down.

Silas watched all of this in quietness, a feeling of nostalgia washing over him. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been around a table.” Caleb said, his voice was shaky yet he tried to mask it as best as he could. “No shit.” Amos mumbled, his voice gravelly, his cheeks and nose still red due to the cold.

“I didn’t expect you of all people to become a Soldier, Amos.” John then told the man beside him, poking him with his elbow a bit. “You were a weird kid. Going on about how.. you’d protect nature. Become a biologist or whatever.” John continued, taking a hesitant bite of meat.

Amos chuckled, taking a sip of the cheap beer Silas had bought just for him and John. “You also had that dirty skull.” Caleb then added, cutting a piece of the meat then taking a bite.

“You wanna see it?” Amos immediately questioned, leaning forward with a grin on his face. Amos’ words caused Caleb to recoil, coughing as he hit his chest a bit, shaking his head vigorously soon after.

Amos allowed a bark of laughter to leave his lips, leaning back in his chair. A ghost of a smile drifted across John’s face while Silas chuckled a bit.

“You still have that wretched thing??” Caleb asked, his breath a bit wheezy. Amos nodded, allowing sighs to leave his lips as he laid his hand onto his chest. He hadn’t laughed that hard in a long, long time. “Yeah. I still have it.” He answered, taking another sip of his cheap beer.

John hummed, “I remember when I found it. I was just trying to have a walk, after.. y’know, one of Elias’ outbursts. Then I come across a carcass, meat and skins decomposed or ripped to shreds, I can’t tell. but I remember you telling me to give you it if I found something.” John explained, the corner of his lips twitching as he recalled on how excited Amos seemed to be.

“And you shouldn’t have.” Caleb claimed, shuddering as he remembered the sight of the skull, all dirty and rotten. He ran a hand through his hair, attempting to calm himself.

His eyes then looked to Silas, who had never said a single thing aside from the prayer. “What about you, Silas?” Caleb questioned, receiving a hum from the other as he lifted his head to look at his brother.

“What have you been doing these past twenty years?” Caleb asked once more, watching as Silas took a sip of wine before swallowing. “I became a lawyer. Married someone, divorced her. And then I spent the last few years attempting to find you all.” He would answer, his eyes drifting between Amos, John, and Caleb.

“What about that voice, the one you told me about.” Caleb inquired, receiving confused looks from John and Amos. Caleb glanced back to them, “you don’t know?” Caleb questioned, both of the older man shaking their heads before all three looked back to Silas.

“What the hell is he talking about when he says “voice”?” John barked, standing up from his chair abruptly. “You didn’t tell them??” Caleb exclaimed, standing from his chair as well.

Silas sighed, “I was going to wait after dinner but I suppose I’ll have to explain now.” He said, pinching the bridge of his nose before he would take another sip of wine. Caleb never could keep a secret to himself, it always spilled out eventually, accident or not.

“A few years ago, after I divorced my wife, I began to have visions and I began to hear things, angels, I prefer to believe. They told me that the end of times was coming, that I needed to save people.” Silas explained, leaving out a big part of it due to it being more complex then that.

Slowly, John had put two and two together, balling his fists a bit. “You wanted to find us so we could help, didn’t you? This wasn’t about ‘family’. This is about needing money and protection!” John yelled, unexpectedly pounding the table with his fist.

“No. This was about finding you all. I have money and I can easily get a few men on my own. Why would I try to find Caleb, and you, and Amos if I could acquire those things easily?” Silas replied, standing from his own chair, his eldest brother was taller and bigger then him but Both of them clearly knew who was in the right.

John sighed deeply, sitting back down before Silas did the same. Tension hovering over each of them and filling the room.

Caleb looked around awkwardly then back down at his plate, suddenly clearing his throat as he remembered about the apple pie. “So, uh- who wants some apple pie?” He asked, receiving hums from the other three men.

And so all four received their portions, eating in silence and the tension now forgotten. yet John still worried for his younger brother.

Though, Caleb believed him, remembering the times young Silas would speak of a creature - a beast with six wings and all seeing eyes. Each time it depended, and each time they said the same thing.

“A false prophet shall emerge. His staunch brothers in tow, and each shall plague the land from which they inhabit.”
