I like to think that it reflects Shigaraki's opinion on them, at the start they where just supposed to be potential pawns, that where supposed to die if they proved to not be usefull, but now they are way taller than shigaraki, way more detailed and looking down on him, as they where sort of judging him for what he has become.

From pawns they became Shigaraki's friends and family, one that actually loved him enough to not hurt him and actually try to protect him, that's why they are so detailed and stylishly draw, that's how shigaraki seas them now.

It's probably not the case but in my opinion it would be cool if Shigaraki stopped his rampage becouse he realizes that his plan is doomed to bring his friends into misery, since he did say "I will destroy everything but all that my teammates like will be spared" but his teammates are all on the verge of death or way past the pearly gates (or the gates of hell, depends) so technically there is nothing to stop him from destroying anything, but also nothing to remind him to honor his friends, at least untill he will have destroyed anything and think "now what?" And suddenly remembers he destroyed everything his teammates liked.

Everything I just said is probably not the case and Horikoshi just improved in the years but I like to headcannon and give meaning to meaningless things

I love seeing how Horikoshi's art has changed and improved over the years.
