small disclaimer; a lot of these are themed after pre-roadblasters Turbo for the grimy grunginess that the little parasite emits, but they can work for any version of turbo really! (I LOVE KING CANDY AND KING CANDYBUG A LOT im just drawn to uncanny disgusting men. i have a type apparently)🐛🐛🐛

starting off light with a high energy instrumental song :-D RED AND GOLD IS IN THE NAME. LIKE TURBOS MAIN COLOR🏎️ AND TROPHIES AND KINGLINESS 🏆,👑. COME ON!!!!

this song sounds a lot like it would be in a lighthearted racing game, which is exactly where he originated! playful and silly having fun time driving (He did not kill many people!) as a whole its very upbeat and matches Turbo's constant movement i think!

the quieter segment in the middle of the song sounds quite King Candy esque with its more subtle chords....scheming...how devious. it sounds almost royal! Perhaps this is the "gold" they were speaking of in the title, with the rest of the song being "red".....

even the synths align with him in some way, as the electronic sounds can be correlated with coding and video games !!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!

i initially associated this song with Ace from the powerpuff girls, but upon further inspection, i feel like the lyrics align much more with Turbo's character...... "Mess with me, and boy, you're surely gonna die!" and "I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere," ARE SOOOO HIM BROO....

more lyrics that strongly parallel his personality are "I am the plan; I am the man; who tells you what and when you can; I'm the old one that torments you; I am the voice that tells you to..." ARE U SERIOUS THIS SOUNDS LIKE STUFF HE'D ACTUALLY SAY.

also this song is about the american GOVERNMENT being CORRUPT... need i say any more (KING CANDY IS A CORRUPT POLITICIAN)

i heavily associate Primus with Turbo in general because of the heavy bass sounding kind of like a motor and the high energy of the songs being twisted into something more deviant because of how heavy and dark the instruments are. It just makes sooo much sense for his character... EVIL CAR ADHD 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Hoohhh..... ok just replace Mary the ice cube with the players Turbo latches onto so hard, and it sounds like hes grieving the loss of them after the Roadblasters incident. maybe his trophies or winning status could be a stand-in for said ice cubes the song speaks of...

its twisted and sad and angry all at once which i think is exactly how Turbo would mourn. blaming the "ice cube" for slipping away from HIM instead of the other way around, being that he's the one who drove it all away, growing more and more bitter........acidic even

"Nothing ever lasts forever," seems like a mindset he'd carry for most of his life, being why hes so intensely adamant on keeping everything to himself to preserve it for as long as he can. his possessive nature is a cover-up for his fear of it all collapsing on him and leaving him with nothing. he keeps everything close and everyone far 😢...

"It's been declared that it's not wise to prize something too much," sounds to me a lot like a narrator explaining the moral of the story, and in Turbo's case, it fits him as well as a matching puzzle piece. he relied on adoration so heavily that he lost himself.

ok hehehe this one's a little more self explanatory... HE DRIVES A RACE CAR!!!! and he DOES "[drive] so goddamn fast!"

THE DISCORDANCY OF THE NOTES AND THEN THE CRAZY ASS RIFF IN THE MIDDLE IS SO SO GOOD.!!!!!!! matches Turbos energy incredibly well :-D also side note; i love the chop top cameo from tcm2 heehehehee check out Cornbugs if you like Primus and tcm :-3

another little tidbit is the line "stuck in his craw that they made him retire," (stuck in his craw means to be made resentful about something) which i think underscores how deeply indignant Turbo is about the entire Roadblasters ordeal.

"They call me Mr. Knowitall, I will not compromise! I will not be told what to do, I shall not step aside!" this REEEKS of ego and defiance. which is very in character for Turbo!!!!!

this entire song is about this asshole who brags about himself so incessantly to such a degree that it makes him look ridiculous. as intelligent as he is, he is not as much of an admirable figure as he tries to make himself seem, which is made horrendously clear.

there are contradictory lyrics here and there that demonstrate hypocrisy and outright lying, stating things like "I am so eloquent! Perfection is my middle name, and whatever rhymes with eloquent..." when the word eloquent is defined by having a high level of literacy, and "they call me Mr. Knowitall" versus "I MUST be Mr. Knowitall." the way he refers to himself changes throughout the song

the lyrics are pretty similar to turbos internal struggles though!! "Can't touch the image" and the frequent repetition of the word "nothing" make plenty of sense for who he is. what he wants is unreachable, leaving him hollow; he wants to be untouchable.

this song is really fucking funny its just about some guy talking about how evil and fucked up he is... imagine Jack being Felix or something and it all makes sense. bragging and bragging about how abhorrent he is, the man rambles on about how he kills people and refuses to change.

"I don't mind living without a heart; I like fucking people over for a fucking start" is the intro... like its soooo turbo 🤩🤩🤩 Yessssdss

I FUCKING LOVE MELTED BODIES YO!!!!!!

ANGER AND ANXIETY run RAMPANT in this song which is relevant as ever to Turbo... he cant feel fear without a boiling rage simmering within and thus having a need to defend himself and do whatever it takes to keep himself safe and happy!

the general chord progression is so chaotic and fast, it feels like going downhill and then back up again which is a lot like how Turbo is in general. all or nothing .. black and white moods with no in between

5. 50 Cent 

To this day, when you need a playlist for a MMA class and the group is hella diverse, you’re not really sure which way to go with it, pop in that 50. Can’t go wrong with Get Rich Or Die Trying (the original), or even that G-Unit Beg For Mercy.

That run from late 2002-2005/06 was unlike anything you’ll ever see again. That was a perfect situation where there was organic support from fans and there were people at a business level, mainly 50, that knew how to turn it into the wave that it became and industry has been trying to replicate this ever since.

While most people remember is the numerous scandals, beefs and controversies of that time but it was the music that moved the audience. For all the ways 50 Cent’s success mirrors ruthless American capitalism, his debut album is low key one of the most inspiring albums you’ll ever listen to. 

It’s a foxhole mentality on wax. It’s me-versus-you type thinking. It’s someone has to lose and I’ll be damned. It’s who ever has to get hit, is gonna get hit. 

See the first time I listened to it, it was about “In Da Club”, “Wanksta”, you know the more palatable records that got on radio and all that but the more I listened the more I realized, it was actually built on the backs of songs like “Patiently Waiting”, “Many Men”, “Back Down”, “Don’t Push Me” and “Gotta Make It To Heaven”. On one side it’s as motivational as you can think of but it’s not the wacky kind of naivé motivational talk because it’s willing to get it’s hands dirty and go in to much grittier ideas. 

Like his predecessors, 50 pulls off the trick of balancing easy-to-listen-to records on a foundation of graphic and aggressive songs.

4. Jedi Mind Tricks

I’ll give you props if you know who these man are but they are legends. Point blank. Violent By Design will forever rank as one of the great group albums in hip-hop history.  Vinny Paz, Jus Allah and producer/DJ Stoupe The Enemy of Mankind, gave hip-hop a shockwave they weren’t ready for, especially back in 1999.

Hip-hop as a business wasn’t ready to market a group, whose themes were rooted in topics like government control, military warfare, covert control tactics, religion and psychological warfare. To have all that in one bundle wasn’t something that big time A&R’s were ready for. 

Had they started this group in 2010, they would have walked in to a business landscape that was far more suitable to who they were as an act and as MC’s. 

Even with that JMT still enjoyed a lot of notoriety and they definitely succeeded in establishing their following, despite the odds. 

While Violent By Design may serve as the magnum opus of their body of work, their run really starts in 1997 with the Psycho-Social, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation Of Human Kind. 

Yes guy, that’s an album title. You gotta think now, I was in high school the first time I heard this and I was very into conspiracy theories and nonsense, so this album hit me right between the eyes. The idea that someone could use the medium of hip-hop in this way was crazy and the album would have been more than 10 years old when I first heard it.

No, the hip-hop historians among us will argue that Wu-Tang were a better and more influential group and I’d tend to agree, I can also bust back and say, “these dudes took Wu-Tang’s formula and gave it a whole different edge.”

 I’ll break it to you like this, Wu-Tang gave the world swordsmanship and the first projectile weapons like bow and arrows, spears and the likes. Jedi Mind Tricks gave the world gun powder, advanced modern explosives and semi-automatics. You see what I mean?

3. Jay-Z

No top rappers list is complete without my man. The only reason he ain’t higher is because, I rate a rapper more highly if they’re in the prime of their musical abilities. If this were an all-time list he’d be way way higher. 

Beginning with Reasonable Doubt is really the only place to start when it comes to Jay. The production, the skits, the way every sentence was so tightly wound together, the word selection and sentence construction. It’s remembered as an album of hits because of tracks like “Cant Knock The Hustle”, ”Feelin It” and “Brooklyn’s Finest” but Reasonable Doubt was really defined by “Dead Presidents”, “D’evils”, “Politics As Usual” and “Can I Live”. 

The first batch of songs gave the album some relatability, as far as depicting club vibes and nightlife glamour because that second batch of songs were all built on darker themes like betrayal, jealousy, greed, blind ambition and deception. That combination of themes as well as the production to match each one is why that album will always rank high among a certain listenership. 

With that being said, never make the mistake of thinking Jay or any man is perfect. There’s like a 3 album run where there’s moments of dope-ness but not a truly complete album. 

Still with that, songs like “Imaginary Player” and “Where I’m From” will rank among his best songs.

It’s only when you get to The Blueprint can you start to see Jay perfecting the art of crafting, whole, complete albums that bump from start to finish. The Blueprint was near perfection in this regard. “U Don’t Know”, “Heart Of The City” and “Momma Loves Me” will rank as his best efforts and yeah, I skipped a few.

The Black Album replicated the Blueprint’s listenability, while also dealing in topics that created an album that sounded very personal to Jay. 

All told, the best parts of his catalogue are so strong that there is no denying his place on my list.

2. Action Bronson

I cannot for the life of me fathom how this man doesn’t get the love but the real ones know. 

The mixtape download era (2010-2017 give or take), had many unlikely success stories. An overweight white guy, who grew up cooking in his parents deli/eatery, turned pro-chef then turned rapper, is beyond unlikely. Only the internet could allow this man to succeed and thank the hip-hop gods it did.

From 2012 to about 2018, Action was one of the only constants in my playlist. I still remember where I was the first time I heard “Brunch”. His catalogue starting with the Tommy Mas produced, Dr Lecter and boasting full collaborations albums along side Statik Selektah and the Alchemist, and of course the classic Blue Chips series. This man’s prime will be underrated. 

If you’re going to take one chapter of Bronson’s art and study it, it’s going to be Blue Chips 1 and 2. Both are thematically perfect without ever trying to be. Which is what allowed Party Supplies to make production choices that grabbed you from the jump. From the first time you hit play on the opening of Blue Chips 1, you’re hit with the sound of falling shards of glass and a violin sound that makes the opening song un-skippable. The songs themes are also a perfect introduction to the man himself. Debauchery, expensive taste, hedonism, revelry, unabashed pleasure-seeking, drug use and just enough self-depreciation that you felt you were along for the ride rather than just a fly on the wall, turning your nose in disgust. It was a perfect mixtape, at a time when mixtapes were at a crazy dumb high standard.

It’s not so much that a rapper made punchlines about food, that would be an over-simplification and really missing the trick. It’s that he made everything he said sound like the dopest thing ever and the most underrated trick about his music is that he made grown man rap without needing to be thuggin’. A rare feat. 

Bronson has since gone on to establish himself as a content creator/producer/food review guy but man, what he accomplished as a complete body of work is nothing short of astonishing.

1. Headie One

So it’s late last year. I’m hanging with my boy Phil and Brown, we had just finished some content and Phil says “yo listen to this”. He proceeds to play Golden Boot and it hasn’t stopped bumping since. 

A UK rapper with a lyrical nous and wit that rivals even legends like Jay-Z, but rapping over trap and drill beats. What Headie One is doing is not the norm and I’m talking in terms of his lyrics, sentence construction, word selection, metaphors, he does it all and like all the greats, he makes it look easy. 

His collaboration with RV definitely helped mold him, with both the “Sticks and Stones” and “Drillers and Trappers” mixtapes giving you an idea of what Headie offers as a lyricist. He compliments RV’s brash, aggressive boasts with slightly less obvious but incredibly witty boasts of his own.

His discography though really starts to peak with 2018′s “The One”. That’s where Headie begins find a sweet spot between his lyrics, production and the themes of his songs. A mixtape like this can only exist via independent release because outside of the aforementioned “Golden Boot”, ain’t none of those songs getting any radio play especially in a country as “conservative” as England. Even in a genre saturated with gangsta/trap, “The One” stands out for what he accomplishes lyrically.

Headie would follow that by releasing “The One Two” in June of 2018 and he ascends even more in what he’s able to accomplish with the words.

 The track “Banter On Me” should be in an all-time list somewhere for being the wittiest track of all time. The song is literally just Headie finding new and innovative ways to boast, call out and bait his foes. Hip-hop/Rap has plenty of beef songs that weren’t really direct call outs to any known public figure but were still definitely taking shots at someone. 50 cent’s “Wanksta” and “Officer Down” are some examples of such songs I can think of. Those did not really have the kind of wit Headie displays here. The constant streams of alliterations, double meanings, puns, metaphors, inferences and innuendos is just astonishing. There’s a real mastery of language at play here. The song is a lesson in language, no textbooks. 

Headie has since released his debut album along with additional tracks for the delux version of the album. His debut studio release “Edna” does what studio releases are supposed to do. “Parle-Vouz Anglais” and “Aint It Different” will standout and are difinitely the most palatable songs as far as radio play. Those are the 2 songs I’d play for first time listeners.

His hands were shaking as he held the moist paper, from tears, from yours, from his. You swallowed hard. The Ghosts… Your parents… Four… Why anything you did lead to suffering? Why? But you had to end with this, as soon as possible. First, your parents and their watery eyes, your mother unable to cook your favorite meal without tearing up and your father crying as your favorite song came upon the radio. Then, Four. Your angel. Your savior. Your everything. You had to hurt him too, the last person who cared about you. You had to hurt him. Everything became blurry as your eyes filled with tears. Four… You hoped he would be fine, that the Ghost would take care of him, especially Seven.

“Y/N,” you heard behind your back and suddenly turned around. You went paler than a ghost when you saw Four, coming out of one of the cars the crew owned, running towards you.

“Don’t,” you yelled back, making another step towards the edge as he slowed down. “You… I made my decision Four,” you said, having a limp in your throat, “you can’t change it.”

“No please, love, don’t do that!” You could feel his voice cracking, see his pained face and the tears, you never saw so many tears running down his face as now. And you couldn’t help yourself but begin to cry too. “I love you, y/n, I know this isn’t much, I know I… I’m a thief, I was a thief, a was a nobody, nobody cared about me and I have nothing to offer but… I love you,” he sobbed, between his muddled words. “I will never love anyone more than you, I can’t lose you, y/n, I can’t lose you!”

“I… I… I…,” you whispered, holding back your tears, biting your sleeve.

“I’m Billy, and I can’t lose you, I can’t lose the person who gave me faith in life, I can’t let you do that… I promise you, we will make you happy, together, I will try my best to bringhappiness into your life everyday, we will figure every thing out, together, as a team, as a couple… But for the love of God, or for any fuck’s sake, don’t leave me alone,” he begged, now crying completely as he fell on his knees.

“B-Billy,” you said weakly coming closer to him, not being able to see him suffer this much, “I love you too, I love you so much but I’m the one paining you, I’m hurting you and hurting my parents… I can’t be the…”

“You’re not,” he cut you off brutally, his eyes burning as he caught your hands in his, “you are the most wonderful person I know, y/n, nobody gave me so much love. To a thief, y/n, you gave your heart to a thief, without any fear. You could have abandoned me, or told me to fuck off but you didn’t. You saved me, so let me save you, please,” he finished, kissing your knuckles as he spoke and you could barely see his face through the tearscurtains.

“I… I’m so sorry,” you cried out, falling on your knees too, hugging him, crying, sobbing, hiccuping, trying to catch your breath. “I’m so sorry Billy, I’m so stupid I’m… I’m…”

“Love, please… Love,” he whispered into your ear, caressing the top of your head, “please, never leave me again. Please.”

“I won’t,” you promised, “I won’t.”

He kissed your forehead, holding your face under your chin, he kissed your cheeks, your eyes, your lips. He didn’t want to let you go, fearing he would lose you, forever again as he thought during the whole ride, his heart racing as his foot went down. He thought he lost you, forever. He couldn’t forgive himself for letting you go, but now, he would do anything to make you feel better, anything.

“I love you, y/n, I love you so much,” he whispered again, as if it wasn’t enough, because it never was.

“I love you too Billy, I love you,” you replied, softly sobbing as he kissed you again. “I will never stop loving you.”

When you got home, you were greeted by your parents with faces blanker than a canvas. They were now fully aware that you are definitely spending time with this boy. Your mother is usually the one who had the most to say, whereas your father had nothing much to say—in fact, your parents were perfect opposites of one another.

“Oh, so now you suddenly care that I come home late, that I’m gone for hours because I’m spending most of it with my boyfriend, and that I actually exist?”

“What’s it going to take for you to stop this behavior?”

“Postpone the engagement with Logan that you made without my consent and 40,000 credits,”

“What in the world are you going to do with forty-thousand, [y/n]?!”

“What? A girl’s gotta shop,” you say condescendingly. “Plus, when did five digits ever worry you, Mom? You’re one of the filthy rich, remember? Forty-thousand is barely a dent on your joint account!”

“[y/n], please can we sort this out?” your poor father sighed.

As much as you want to give in for your father, if you give in now then you have broken your deal with Cal by default—you couldn’t allow it, your parents even seem to have overlooked your demand of postponing the engagement.

When your parents were sure that you were out of earshot, Sorhan reassured his wife that he will send out of the bodyguards to keep an eye on her—even though he was against the whole idea. Little did they know that you were hiding behind the walls near the living room, though it didn’t surprise you that they will be sending out spies for you—you knew exactly how to evade them. Even if they did see you, there’s nothing much they can do.

You repeated the exact same words of your non-negotiables to your parents, your words were almost immediately eaten by the air as soon as you released them. You shake your head in utter disappointment and retreated to your bedroom. By rote, you check your holotable for transmissions and messages that you received while you were out—majority of them came from Tazha begging you to call her back once you’re back, which you did.

“Ugh, finally!”

“Really? That’s how you’re gonna start the call, Taz?”

“You’ve been gone all day!”

“Yeah, I was with Cal the whole time,”

“You mean your fake boyfriend?”

You paused from removing your jacket just so you could shoot back a look at Tazha. You picked up something from the way she put that out, though you shouldn’t have a reason to get that word under your skin. You forget that it was the reality of this whole ordeal.

“Got something to tell me, Tazha?”

“Well, duh, tell me how your date go?”

“It wasn’t a date, we just met up and talked,”

Tazha rolled her eyes and sighed, “Gee, how romantic.”

While folding your jacket, a smile had curled up in your lips when the memory of you and Cal back at the abandoned park suddenly flashed in your mind. Not even the slightest smile escape Tazha’s eagle eyes—even through a holotable transmission.

“Hup! I saw that, [y/n],” she perked up, pointing her finger at you. “Come on, you’ve got something to tell!”

“Does it really interest you or nah?”

Tazha debated that she definitely wants to hear about your day and so you narrated everything to her from the very beginning until the end when you two were in the park all day. It wasn’t the moments you retold that interested her, it was more of the way you told it—even your face was telling a lot more of the story than your lips.

“He listens to The HU too!”

“So what are you guys gonna do tomorrow or next?”

You shrug your shoulders but you didn’t worry about it too much.

Wow, this is so unlike her. Tazha thought to herself when she saw you squeal like a toddler, she’s never seen you this excited for anything. Being your best friend since forever, she knows that you were the planner between the two of you—and to see you not panicking over the fact that you’ve got no specific plans for the next time you and Cal meet up kind of surprised her.

The dates continued on. You brought Cal to the farmer’s market where they sell delicacies and drinks found only in Alderaan, one of your favorites being the Starblossom fruit and the beverage Mocoa.

“Be sure to remove the seeds, they’re really bitter when you bite them,”

“I’ve never had these ever, these are really good!”

“Yeah?”

“I think this is gonna top Jogan berries in my list of favorite fruits,”

There are still so many things you want Cal to see and try. The pubs and its drinks, the farmer’s market and what it has to offer, and even the mosh pits. He was surprised that even in a classy planet as Alderaan, there are such things.

“Well, the rich people aren’t the only ones who wanna have fun!” you exclaim.

You still couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that you and Cal are getting along well despite this fake relationship—sometimes he forgets that he was even in one in the first place. He continued to spend time with you, meeting up with you whenever you asked. In the first few days, he did it out of obligation and for the sake of following the agreement; but the more often you two hang out, he slowly warmed up to you some more. He allowed you to drag him around the city and bring him to places that you usually frequent.

Each time you’re with him, the more you wanted the moments to last longer. You didn’t want to come back to your house.

You and Cal get into a mosh pit, the show was about to start, and the crowd was beginning to go wild. Most of the partygoers were young people—just about your age—and they were clad in a complete contrast to the luxurious clothes that the elites wear.

Cal wrapped his arm around your shoulder which startled you, when you tilted your head up to look at him, he had that casual look in his face.

“What are you doing?”

“Figured we ought to look the part,” he smirked.

You scoffed as you smiled back, seeing that there was no harm in it, the two of you approach the bouncer at the gate.

“Hey-hey, look who it is! It’s [y/n]! Where the heck have you been?!”

“Hey Fritz, heard that the band’s here!”

“For sure!” the bouncer takes notice of Cal, he points at him but kept his eyes on you. “Your boy?”

“Yeah, this is Cal.”

“Hoo-whee, and I thought the princess could never score a keeper!”

You brush off the bouncer’s teasing and he finally lets you and Cal in after you hand him a handful of credits. From afar, you found the bodyguard that your father had sent blend in with the crowd but he sticks out like a sore thumb, you ignored him and let him see you enter the mosh pit; he later contacts your father shortly after you and Cal entered.

“You’re a regular here?” Cal closed in on your ear as the bass was blaring through the speakers.

“Yeah well, I come around here more often than the Tipsy Taun-taun! I’m sure you’ll like it here, just wait and see!” you confidently assured him.

Cal stayed close to you while the two of you stayed at the bar, watching the crowd and whoever performer is on stage, and sipping Alderaanian brandy. After the performer that was already on stage when you got there, the emcee walks in and says his spiel for the next one. He vaguely introduces the band until he declares the name.

“The one you’ve all been waiting for: The HU!!!”

The crowd went wild, they roared and whistled, some of them even spun their bandannas in the air as the band members enter. As for Cal, his lips parted open starting from the moment the emcee uttered the band’s name. He looked to you, as if looking for some confirmation, and you answered his expression with a smile combined with a single twitch of your eyebrows.

The song started with a few strokes of their fiddles and then the beat of the drums. The crowd was bobbing and rocking to the rhythm of all the instruments and the unconventional yet impressive vocals—to you, the scene almost looked like a cult meeting.

“You knew they’d be here, didn’t you?”

You beamed a playful smile, “Told ya you’d like it!”

The HU was reaching its chorus, the instrumental was gradually heightening its intensity, and the crowd chanted along to the lyrics—even covering the background voices in certain verses. Eventually, you and Cal joined along as you knew the song as well as everyone else watching the gig. The songs became wilder. Laughter drowned in the roars of the crowd and the acoustics of the instruments, but neither of you didn’t care, the two of you are simply having fun in the heat of the moment.

The next band comes in. It was a drastic shift of mood compared to the last band as the vocalist belted out mellow tones, but the crowd—including the pair of you—adapted quickly; from bobbing your heads to the impactful beating of the drum, you sway left to right with your hands raised up harmonizing with the smooth strumming of the guitar and the neon lights have softened into warmer tones of purple, blue, and orange.

Cal wrapped his arm around you while swaying with the crowd. Much later, he gently cups your chin and angles your head so you face him. Was it on a whim or by impulse? Is there a difference anyway? It didn’t matter to him. Without warning, he brings himself closer to you until the gap in between is gone.

In the middle of the crowd.

Cal’s lips presses against yours.

Everything suddenly seemed to slow down—the movements of the crowd and the band, the beams of light dancing around the place, and the pace of time.

He presses his lips to yours, now your heart is beating ever faster, he softly suckles your lower lip and he slowly pulls away. The two of you exchanged tender gazes at each other, in the next second you gently pull him close by the straps of his armor and return the kiss.

Your trembling hands perched on his broad shoulders. The intensity was flaring, he allowed himself to get carried away. Everything around you felt like it was spinning. You were caught in the moment.

You didn’t even realize that your father and the bodyguard had tracked you down to the mosh pit, but when Sorhan saw you, he almost thought that the girl he was seeing wasn’t his own daughter: lips stretched to an ear-to-ear smile, eyes squinted into tight slits, and a laughter drowned by the blaring sounds of the music and the roaring crowd.

“Sir?”

“Come on. Leave her,” your father resigned and marched out of the bar, the confused bodyguard followed suit.

When the hype in the mosh pit died down, Cal offered to take you home. You walked the streets hand-in-hand, the rush is still fresh in both of you, and he would steal glimpses of you smiling to yourself—in turn, he would smile too as the two of you walk.

His pace got noticeably slower when you arrive to the manor’s porch, you were reluctant yourself, you didn’t want to get near the front door either. Cal squeezes your hand and step forward to the first step of the porch, he remained standing on one step below. You turn to Cal and the bright glint in his eyes that you saw at the mosh pit had dimmed down.

“Hey,” you cooed, giving his hand clutching yours a gentle shake. “I had the most fun tonight.”

“Me too.”

He manages a smile. Cal slowly closes in on you, your head tilts up as your eyes follow him; he softly brushes the wisps of hair to the back of your ear. He was hesitant about something. Your heart was racing again, he gazes at you intently and tenderly. His eyes trail to your mouth, he gently cups your chin with one hand and inches you closer to him.

His lips met your lips again, but this time, his kiss was much tenderer. You suckle his lips back as your felt his hands crawl and caress your neck. He finally wills himself to pull away from you.

“Good night,” he whispers while the tips of your noses brush against each other.

You smile, “Good night.”

His grip on your hand slowly loosens until the last of yours fingers have slid away from his grasp. Your free hand blindly pawed the door and turned the knob. You push the door open while still looking back at Cal; you step in and the last thing you see as you slowly close it is him smiling back at you—but it was a sad smile, you somehow understand why because the feeling’s mutual.

I still walk in that bar a little drunk I still ask you what you're drinking, what's your name I still kiss you by the shuffleboard, last call at 2AM Even though we break up in the end

Things between you and Cat had ended. You still aren't sure how it happened or what led your relationship to this point. You didn't regret it though. If you could go back in time you would still stumble into that bar already tipsy. You would still approach the cute blonde, Cat,  at the edge of the bar and start a conversation with her. Trying to figure out what she was drinking and if she would let you buy one. When you asked for her name she seemed confused.

"Hey beautiful can I get your name?" you asked the gorgeous woman who sat beside you. She turned to look at you with confusion swirling in her eyes.

"Do you honestly have no idea who you are talking to?" she had asked you and you smiled at her.

"Darling if I had ever met you before trust me I would remember you. I could never forget a woman like you." You had slightly slurred out.

You sighed while walking down the street. A small smile appeared on your face though. The memory of how you two met was probably always going to sting. You didn't mind though even knowing how your relationship ended you would do it all over again.

You could still remember when you had brought her home with you to introduce her to your parents. She had been so nervous, which for her was unusual. Cat was never nervous. Yet, here she was just a bundle of nervous energy. You had smiled over at her and took her hands in yours.

"Love they are going to absolutely adore you." You told her and leaned down to press a kiss on her forehead.

"(Y/N) you cant possibly know that." She said looking up at you. You laughed softly and shook your head.

"I do know that. You want to know how I know they with love you Cat?" You asked her. She nodded her head and you wrapped your arms around her waist pulling her closer to you.

"I know that because you made me happy Cat. Happier than I have ever felt before." You murmured pressing a kiss to the top of her head. She pulled back to look up at you her brown eyes meeting your (E/C) as she smiled. After that you two of you made your way to your parents house. Everything was going great. Your mom and dad loved Cat and Cat had calmed down and was no longer as nervous, In the middle of talking to your parents she got a call.

"Sorry I have to take this." She said smiling apologetically and walking outside to take her call. You watched her walk away with a smile on your face before turning back to your parents.

"I think that I'm in love with her." You told them. You saw the smiles on their faces and you knew that they were just happy you finally had someone you truly cared for. You knew you were also going to have to tell them that one of the reasons you had brought Cat to meet them was that you were going to be moving in together. You already knew how that would go. You could practically hear them say it was too early and to wait a little longer. You already knew you were going to ignore it because that woman out there held your heart.

The memory managed to put a soft yet sad smile on your face. You continued walking around going wherever your feet took you. You couldn't stay at your new apartment. It was too quiet without her around. Yet, even if there was a way you could avoid meeting her and avoid the heartbreak you knew you wouldn't take it. She was the best thing that ever happened to you and losing her was the worst but you wouldn't change a thing. You would always choose her no matter what because you would rather have had the chance to have loved Cat and lose her than to have never met her to begin with.

You had walked into a bar. Apparently where your feet were taking you was the place you had first met Cat. You shoved your hands your pockets. Tonight was karaoke night. You smiled remembering all the times you had tried to convince Cat to sing karaoke with you. She never said yes at the bar but she would sing with you int the apartment you two had shared. You hadn't been expecting to hear (Y/F/S) though. It hurt to hear now yet still brought a feeling of happiness, even if it was tinted with heartbreak, to you. You had showed the song to Cat and had played it over and over again. She had surprisingly loved it and you two danced to and sang the song all the time. Listening to it now though, all you could hear was Cats voice singing. You let a couple tears fall knowing that at some point this song had become yours and Cats song. You would still show (Y/F/S) to her though. You would let her ruin that song over and over again though because for you Cat was the only choice for you to make. Never meeting her, even if it saves you from heartbreak, isn't a choice for you. You would always choose to walk into that bar no matter how many times you were given to take a different route. You just hoped that Cat felt the same and that she would always wait in that bar for you no matter how many times she was given to make a different choice. You just smiled sadly and sat down at the bar letting yourself get lost in memories of the past as you drank the night away.

sal actually loves bright/jarring colors, but claims he doesnt look good when wearing them (he does tho, just ask the artists ash and larry)

he loves loves loves space!!! he knows the names of random stars and planets. he doesnt talk about it much bc its hard for him to word it correctly but he just.. FOCUSES on it for HOURS

when people ask him “comics or novels” he literally cannot decide. he’ll read stephen king’s “it” but then a second later he’s reading a fuckin archie comic or garfield comic

he actually loves sci fi films more than horror!

horror movies tend to freak him out because hes more psychologically affected by them (bc of his trauma), so he’d rather avoid that and go with something like sci fi

this is canon but- he loves to paint his nails! one time he painted each nail with the bi flag. it actually took a lot of precision but it was worth it

sal loves small dogs. he also loves rottweilers and chihuahuas bc they look so silly and cute with those big bulging eyes and that waggy tail

he thinks bunnies are AWESOME and one time larry put one on his head and he felt like an angel was above him

and for the rest of the day he doesn’t bother to get any of it out so he walks around the school with a terribly large amount of glitter in his hair

larry cries of laughter whenever he sees him

ash thinks he’s a QUEEN and insists that he comes over and lets her fiddle with his hair and actually make it v pretty and sparkly

so he accepts!!!!!

sal also loves little kids and is super good with them. sometimes kids get scared of his mask, but it’s easy for him to reassure them

when soda is born, sal declares he’s going to be her favorite uncle

and he’s right!

larry’s not jealous though cause yeah, sal is pretty great

and honestly? sal is super protective of soda. he shields her from seeing or hearing any bad things

i also headcanon sal’s voice is a bit like kurt cobain’s- so he kind of sings like him too? but doesn’t scream or anything. his singing voice very soft like kurt’s in the beginning of lithium

sal doesn’t really like to sing though. in front of people, at least

he loves music box versions of songs, they’re just so relaxing and they help him fall asleep a lot of the time

also when he sleeps it’s usually on his back, so gizmo lays on his stomach through the night. sal doesn’t move a lot during his sleep

he has sleepwalked though, to larry’s place

and larry woke up and saw sal (this is after he first saw him without his mask) and he saw him without his glass eye For The First Time

larry TRIES not to wake him up but pretty much fails and sal kind of has a panic attack

he’s like “that- i- i’m sorry- my eye-” and covers it but larry pulls his hand down back to his side and is like “it’s ok you look super cool without it”

prom is honestly one of the best nights of sal’s life

he’s got his hair up in a bun and wears a rainbow-striped t-shirt with a high-waisted black skirt and a long-sleeved black shirt underneath the t-shirt and tall dark leather boots

his nails are painted blue, red, purple, orange to represent him, larry, ash and todd (tho his nails on his thumbs are painted black)

because he secretly loves dancing when no one is around, he just kind of rocks it at prom and his friends are blown away bc… holy shit?? sal fisher can Dance????

but he’s more playful with it

he and larry scream the lyrics to the songs that play

they all end up ditching the prom and going outside to the back of the school and just kinda goof off

larry and ash share a cigarette and todd drives all of them out beyond city limits to an open field

they just kinda lay down in the grass there and stargaze for nearly the entire night

honestly sal just goes back to his apartment very later and happy cries

cause again, he gets so emotional over happy stuff

WEAK BOUNDARIES pt1

theres always that one person that loves you so much that you'll never doubt yourself-- or your "lovability"-- ever again. my person came late, and it didnt last, but it changed me forever.

snap wasnt the most beautiful man in the world-- but he was cute. a mutual friend introduced us at brunch, and i thought he was funny, and decent, but i figured i would never see him again. socializing in the city was so transitory.

but i did see him again, that same day. i left brunch, ran some errands, and was craving something cheap and greasy, so i went to panda express. while devouring the thin and crispy chow mein noodles, i saw a cute lil bubble butt in line. i was staring, but maintaining my queer hyperviligance-- until i realized it was him. it was snap, wearing a tight jogging outfit, and it amused me. why go for a jog if youre just going to eat bad chinese afterwards? i was intrigued.

when he recognized me, he danced over and sat at my booth. he didnt look sweaty-- but who was i to judge? i mean, he was in better shape than i was, so he had more social capital in gay world; and he had soft skin, a professional beard, and liquid green eyes. the more i looked, the more i found things to like.

he was a therapist who worked at a middle school, and we made small talk about our mutual friends. he said i had a good effect on everyone in the group. my mere presence cooled the egos of the gays who tended to be more self-involved, he noticed. it was definitely shade, but i was humble and simply said thank you-- and i remained humble when he asked for my number. he was hard to read, but i was open to his friendship. he was funny, and decent.

later, i discovered he had a partner, who happened to be very handsome. a group of us went on the rooftop together to drink wine, and snap's partner had just returned from spain filled with stories, and we got along well. i noticed that as a couple, they werent intimidated by how i could cool and dazzle a crowd. they were both drawn to it.

it was always fun to run into them. one night, a group of us went dancing and we enjoyed being sloppy drunk messes together. snap cannot dance to save his life. he made awkward hip gyrations, leaned on one leg, and would thrust his arms out in long offbeat displays of emotionality. he was terrible, and dangerous to dance with, because you could easily lose an eye.

even when sober, he danced like a staggering drunk with no rthythm-- but i loved that about him. i loved seeing him express himself, because he truly looked free, and i admired that. it was his own interpretative dance, and eventually the three of us were slowly grinding together, to the gay classics. when they drove me home, i sensed "something" there, but i thought better of it and went home alone. i wasnt prepared to be that messy.

but then, the happy couple came to my spa, and invited me into their hot tub, while i was on the clock. they were both naked. i thanked them, but declined. id never had a threesome, and i was just beginning my queer sexual odyessy. i didnt want to experiment and get my sea legs with my friends. i felt there was too much to risk.

months went by, and eventually the happy couple broke up, just before christmas. they were together for a year. by now, our gay tribe was meeting once a week, and during our Monday Night Dinner, snap spilled the beans. he was distraught, because he had never been broken up with. not only was it devastating, but it was new, so we asked how we could support him. "just text and visit me more," he said. my heart bled for him.

so, i texted him, and visited him more. i even gave him a massage, and invited him out with us to dance or watch standup. i realized i didnt know that much about him, really. he was a secretive scorpio, despite his decent casual nature, and i enjoyed making him laugh, and letting him pour his stories into me. i was an unhealthy empath at the time, and it made me feel good to be a receptacle for his feelings, while also showing him a good time. i thought i was healing him! and so, snap grew very attached to me.

he invited me over to his apartment to see his shelves of comicbooks. we would play music and hold each other while he poured his soul into me, telling me about how he scared his partner away with his jealousy, and his insecurity. i should have seen the red flags early, but i was a trauma victim. i was traumatized from childhood to avoid prolonged human touch-- but snap made me feel so safe in his arms! it surprised me, and it was healing me. i felt like he could hold me all night, and i wouldnt try to escape. it clouded my judgment.

there were so many nights with snap: cuddling with him, spooning him, making him laugh, burying his face in my neck, wrapping our legs and touching feet, breathing, going to new thought churches, planning our new years eve, laying out ideas for a podcast, doing yoga, talking to Alexa, walking to the comicbook store holding hands, crying, talking about libido, making salty mario kart jokes, listening to his top 100 new year playlist, and just laying in bed, him playing with my necklace.

we made plans to drive to san mateo for new years, but while we were rolling around the bed, and i threatened to tickle him, he cried out in fear. it felt like i was struck with a cold lightning bolt! i jumped off of him! i was so sorry! but he said he was fine. he said he was only triggered, and he confessed that i had a lot of power over him. it was the night before new years eve, but i didnt sleep.

the next morning, we were organizing the trip, but he was dark and faraway. i wanted to talk about the night before, and the cry that haunted my thoughts, but he went completely silent. suddenly, i realized what i was doing. i was over-involving myself in snap's dramas, and abandoning my own boundaries. when snap finally spoke, he said that i was in a precarious situation, because snap was still sensitive because of his ex, and he didnt want to take it out on me.

why was i abandoning my friends on new years to be with someone i just met? why was i playing caretaker for snap when he needed to be alone, to process his breakup? i was out of order, so i tried to bail. perhaps i should be with my friends instead. "this is your pattern!" he shouted angrily. "why are you doing this?"

i dug deep.

"im afraid that youre just saying youre fine, but secretly youre still mad at me!" i confessed, starting to cry. "i feel like im being punished for making a mistake!"

next thing i knew, i was sobbing in his arms, and he was stroking my head, soothing me, while my diaphragm pushed hoarse cries into his chest. this wasnt normal or proportionate, and we never resolved the actual issue. instead, we were trauma bonding, and when i finished sobbing, i was filled with so many chemicals, and i was so relieved from expressing my childhood trauma, that i changed my mind and went to san mateo with him.

it was his coworkers new years party, and we ate sliders on hawaiian buns, drank wine, danced the cumbia, and bought a hotel to sleep together. we changed into pajamas, spooned, and in the dark, with my arms around him, snap said, "where have you been all my life?"

when we returned home, i didnt leave. i helped change his bedding, i coached him through his exercises, and he lipsync'd to his favorite songs while i gushed. snap was becoming important to me. whatever he believed, especially about me, affected me greatly. i wanted to be his favorite person in the whole world.

he asked to take me to capitola for another vacation, but my friends warned me that we should spend some time apart, and i sensed they were right, so i did. snap was disappointed, but he went with his friends without me-- until he called me from capitola, and said he was coming back early, to see me. his girlfriends said he talked about me the whole trip, and he offered to drive back, even pick me up some food, and take me to a party.

"i cant believe i miss you this much after just two days!" he laughed. i hugged him tightly. i was happy he missed me. i never wanted to be apart from him, and he felt the same way! he even offered to throw my 30th bday party!

meanwhile, he was showering me with gifts. "look in the bag," he said one night. he had purchased me $60 worth of allergy supplements, the ones i had always wanted! i jumped on top of him and kissed him all over his face.

"youve shown up for me in such a powerful way, and it means more than words can say," he said, holding me. "youre my favorite person."

it was like crack.

we were fully enmeshed.

snap wasnt healing from his past relationship, and i was letting him use me as a distraction. i wanted his energy! i wanted his attention! i didnt care! it was a fully functioning codependent relationship-- and soon, i would have to fight my way out of it.

Something Rotten Tour: Previews

This is going to be a LONG post with a lot of notes from the Something Rotten Tour! I saw it January 14th and 15th in Schenectady.

Welcome to the Renaissance: Instead of saying ‘and everything is new’ the minstrel said ‘whats a famous bard to do’

UPDATE: He was perfect this time!

It is so weird seeing the new ensemble, especially when two shakespeare understudies next to each other, because they look identical

2 ensemblists had to pull open the theater for the beginning since nothing is mechanic

Nick and Bea’s house is made of 2 different boards and a door, also brought on by ensemblists

MAGGIE AS BEA IS SO CUTE. Its similar to Heidi’s Bea but not exactly like her

During Right Hand Man, when she says ‘Then I’m your go to guy’ he does finger guns and when Nick said ‘You’re not a guy’ he does these half assed finger guns back

When she says ‘So don’t be a sexist pig’ she grabs Nicks collar, pulls him down to be shorter than her (she is probably 5-6 inches shorter than Rob), then puts him in a choke hold while she continues singing

Instead of flopping down on the bed, Josh kneeled down then crawled in a circle once or twice like a dog before settling down

AUTUMN. IS. GORGEOUS. Her Portia was adorable, although it sounds a bit forced

New Shakespeare Jackets! This one is a sparkly silver, similar to the last one, and the act 2 jacket is all gold and very shiny. Its basically the Sciottospeare jacket revamped

Instead of the ‘thanks for helping with my wood’ line, Rob screamed at the leather boys ‘WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!!’ and they were so confused

Nick screamed off to Bea ‘IM GONNA BE A FATHER’ before he was alone on stage and did the usual ‘I’m gonna be a father….!’

Portia is wearing a coat similar to the blue one in I Love the Way in pastel green for the party scene

Before she falls over, she tried to sit on the bench, but someone was sitting there, so she stumbled around to the back and fell forward on to her stomach behind the couch instead of backwards

“CHESS. No wait that cant possibly work” was changed to “HAIR. That would just be weird”

Bottoms Gonna Be On Top had a few changes

In response to “Master Bottom you’re such a wonderful writer”, instead of saying “Why thank you”, Rob said ‘I can hear ‘em now!’

Instead of Lord Clapham saying “You’re the greatest” and Shylock saying “You da man!” Shylock says “You’re the greatest” and EVERYONE- Nigel, Bea, the Ensemble, and Shylock say “You da man!”

Hard to Be The Bard was pretty much the same, just different tracks did different things (I know a majority of the tracking at this point so I can say for sure things were changed)

In We See the Light, the male puritan carry in the benches while they all walk in singing ‘no no that won’t do’

Bro Jerry has 2 less puritans following him (he has 2 instead of 4)

UPDATE: Josh dropped the hat. He almost dove for it, but the throw was nowhere near him

Nigel and Portia didn’t dance during we see the light! I think it works because its supposed to be their dream, so when they danced it kind of ruined it. Now they stand in the middle of everything holding each other and its adorable

UPDATE: Dancing is back!

After Nigel goes ‘Let it speak for my soul’ he usually sits down at his desk and starts writing while the troupe comes in and then they start rehearsing. That was not the case.

After he said it the first time, the music changed and he said ‘Let it speak for my soul’ again, AND THEN “Sure as the day, follows the night, sure as the sky turns to blue, this much I know, this much is true, above all else in whatever you do, to thine own self be true” in a new tune

Then, Nigel wants to start with “The Princes Soliloquy”

Normally when the ensemble starts saying ‘this much I know, this much is true, above all else in whatever you do, to thine own self be true’ they do a soft shoe tap number with the music while Nigel watches. NOW- the music stops and they start singing a cappella, and Nigel joins in. Personally I am not a fan of this change

Update: I miss the tapping, but the a cappella this time was REALLY GOOD

To Thine Own Self is not really as much of a song anymore. It’s become more like arguing to music with the chorus being sung. If you saw previews its similar to that. I have most of the dialogue typed out if anyone wants it. Here is a snippet where there was a MAJOR change.

Troupe+ Nigel: “Sure as the day, follows the night, sure as the sky turns to blue, this much I know, this much is true, above all else in whatever you do, to thine own self be true” -

Nick: It’s beautiful but we don’t have time for this. I know, for a fact, that Omelette will be known as perhaps the single greatest play ever written 

UPDATE:  It drastically changed from Nick appreciating what Nigel wrote to him 

Nick: *screaming* ‘WHERE’S THE OMELETTE!?!?!?!?!?!?!??’ 

The ensemble also would put on jackets before they started on broadway, however there are no longer jackets

Shylock line change: He walks in and says “Nickkk you’re not selling any tickets…. BECAUSE YOU’VE SOLD OUT!”

New eggs and Omelettes! They seem MUCH lighter and I think the eggs are collapsable

Someone dropped their omelette tonight but was able to catch it

UPDATE: Omelette was a mess today. First, a piece of bacon nearly ended up in the pit. Then one poor guy had such bad luck with his egg. First his yolk undid inside his costume and went out the bottom, leaving him with 2 feet of fabric around his feet. He tried his hardest to tap but he nearly fell over because he was getting stuck in the fabric. Then, the egg shells on their head are magnetic, and I think their are multiple magnets (there is one on the side for like a piece of ham or a mushroom once they turn into an omelette) and his egg shell got stuck on the wrong magnet which ended up covering his eyes. At that point, the poor guy gave up and tapped off into the wings.

Court scene: ‘Exit Shakespeare!’ is followed by ‘Shakespeare’s leaving’ at which point everyone in the stands runs after him

Stage door: It was INSIDE which was amazing. Night 1 I met Rob, Josh, Maggie, and Adam. There were maybe 20 people in a nice calm line that night.

Adam greeted me with ‘Hi Sweetie how are you!? Thank you so much for coming!’

Rob greeted me with a hug and saying how it was so sweet that I came

Maggie is SO SWEET. I told her how I’ve seen it *just a few* times on broadway and she was like oh my god thats amazing, thank you for coming!

The next say stage door was MAD. There were probably 60-80 people there just mobbing the stage door. Adam, Rob and Josh came out again, and this time Daniel Beeman (my second favorite in the ensemble AND Shakespeare u/s), Kyle Anderson (my favorite in the ensemble and Nigel u/s, he took over Brian Ogilvie’s track), and Scott Cote (Brother Jeremiah) came out.

Daniel, Kyle, and Scott clearly were not planning to stage door and were shocked when they opened it to the mob that was there. Daniel was super sweet and signed autographs and took pictures anyway. As did Scott, who also appreciated that I thought he was the funniest Brother Jeremiah after I’ve seen the show so many times. However, Kyle really did not want to stage door. As soon as he walked out, he stood against the door and was like ‘OH MY GOD.’ He truly is Nigel, and he will make an AMAZING Nigel and I hope he replaces Josh once Josh’s contract is up. He signed a few autographs before he ran out. I sadly didn’t get to talk to him, and even though he was standing behind me I figured I should just leave him be.

I talked to Adam for a bit and asked if he got new jackets, which he confirmed and was very impressed that I noticed.

I waited for the mob to dissipate a bit before I talked to Rob, and once it did I asked him about the line changes, mainly ‘WHERE IS THE OMELETTE’. Rob said they asked him to try that in the show that morning (I saw a matinee, so maybe at 4 or 5 hours earlier). I told  him how with that line I can finally see Nick as a bad person, like you are supposed to. He appreciated that because that is what you are supposed to be thinking there.

I really love this cast, at leas those who I have been fortunate enough to meet. They are all such sweet people.

All in all, I enjoyed the tour. It is definitely not broadway, but it is as close as it could get. A lot of the changes help to clear up confusion that may have been there, and the rest make the show better as a whole. There are some things I miss from broadway, but this isn’t broadway, its the tour, so it is a good time for a change! If the tour is going anywhere near you I would definitely recommend going!

3. BTOB ~ I’ll Be Your Man // Haha... never been an huge fan of them, but after this song I couldn't ignore them anymore its on a repeat when I’m sad. The rapping is what got me honestly just... *words cant explain*

4. Jun.K ~ Think About You // I love myself some 2PM but Jun.K is just my life all my friends know me simply just by this song they know to always play this song for me. 

5. DAY6 ~ First Time // I was bored and decided to listen to Day6 albums and covers one day and this just stuck to me, I love this better than congratulations and letting go.

6. BEATWIN ~ Broken // “It’s Broken” Like...whispering and sexual dancing this video made me too happy when I saw it not to mention the song gave me chills. Beatwin steal my heart any day,

7. HLIN ~ Don’t We All // First Indi/Rock I discovered and I loved it this is a song I listen to just think about life (( from which I do too much)) and I’m so happy I discovered them.

8. Hoody ft Jinbo ~ By Your Side // I found Hoody through Jinbo and fell in love with her and this video. It was an interesting video that actually mad me think a bit from the beginning.

9.  Stellar ~ Crying // What brought me to them...god who knows all i know is this song always made me want to dance. It was a catchy song that pulled me in.

10. EXID ~ L.I.E  // I was just in this song for my love Hye Rin. She aways makes me happy when she sings.

11. BEAST ~ Ribbon // Never huge fan of beast but when this song was released and was recommend to me it was on nonstop for a whole month the choreography made the whole thing for me.

12 Block B ~ A Few Years Later // Taeil at the end just sneaked up on me... I was completely shook by the whole thing I cried.

Many years ago i was producing concerts, Boys of the Louch, Aly Bain.. In that era i was listening to Fairport Convention and Sandy Denny, dave Swarbrick.. a couple of years back i made trip to Cropredy for Fairport festival and treked to Shetlands for a dose of their music...

Celtic Stone is a favorite, especially “ an old man came in and sat down.” Fabulous piece.

I think Im ready for it

 I’ve watched the video several times and listened to the song dozens more, I think Ive got the song meaning and video figured out. Hear me out on my Swiftspiracy..... So the sound has a much different sound that the rest of Taylors music, this new album is a big separation from the previous Taylor we’ve heard. It starts hard, and its very easy to get caught up in it waiting for “the drop”. But the WORDS, OMG. Heres my breakdown of the lyrics, I left some out that I still havent pieced together. Some may contain snippets from the video, but I break the video down at the end.

“Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted But if he's a ghost, then I can be a phantom Holdin' him for ransom”

Here we have the player. But the ghost and phantom. It took me a bit to get it, but shes basically saying that if hes known for being the guy thats never there, two can play at that game and she can be his counterpart. A tete-a-tete. BAM two can play at that game. She can have him holding on to her every word as well.

“Some, some boys are tryin' too hard He don't try at all, though” This guy is used to the girls flocking to him, probably. He doesnt try, he doesnt have to- usually. “I-I-I see how this is gon' go Touch me and you'll never be alone I-Island breeze and lights down low No one has to know”

Here, she knows that she wont get enough of him. This is where it gets a bit befuddled. Listening to it, you dont catch it, but “Touch me and youll never be alone- No one has to know.” IS NOT TAYLOR. This is the mysterious boy-toy. Hes saying he wont leave her and nobody has to know about them. Its their secret love affair. That last lines pretty straight forward. NOW MY FAVORITE PART!!!!!

“In the middle of the night, in my dreams You should see the things we do, baby In the middle of the night, in my dreams I know I'm gonna be with you So I take my time Are you ready for it?” She dreams of this guy. She cant have these feelings for him, she knows it because what they have is supposed to be a casual thing. Hense the hardness in the beginning, its her fascade that shes game for this, and she may actually be cool with it- at first. This part is soft and intimate because not only does it sound fabulous and show her vocals, BUT this is the inner Taylor and you see that in the video. The video showcases her in a glass box “naked” (hello bodysuit), the most vulnerable anyone can be. This is the Taylor nobody sees, the one we can only speculate into our own multifaceted idea of what she may be like. In her dreams shes with him, and in there shes safe to play out any fantasy she wants, like saying she loves him or having a normal romance most likely. She knows she can have him in her literal dreams. Then she goes back to being hard because she knows he would never be ready for it. “Me, I was a robber first time that he saw me Stealing hearts and running off and never saying sorry But if I'm a thief, then he can join the heist And we'll move to an island-and And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor” They can play this game together of being heart breakers together. She even mentions Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton- one of Elizabeths many husbands. Their relationship was controversial and scandalous. (Fun fact: Elizabeth and Richard were both married when they met on the set of Cleopatra. Eventually the two got married TWO separate times together.) This makes me imagine that both couples have semi parallel love histories with the many ex-lovers and on and off relationships. “Every lover known in comparison is a failure I forget their names now, I'm so very tame now Never be the same now, now” This guy is an enigma and surpasses anyone she had ever been with. So all in all we see shes with someone and putting on a good front while internally struggling with being with someone whos not available emotionally. She thinks she can handle it but inside, girls falling, and hard.

NOW the video.

Shes walking through a corridor and we see she has robotic eyes, this really gives you the feel like since shes a robot she has no emotional capabilities. Perfect for this part of the song. Robo Taylor walks up to a clear box with the humanized Taylor. Human Taylor steps forward and stands in a very dutiful way. The pose looked to me like a “What can I do for you today Ms. Swift”, sort of how Id imagine a brain would maybe stand when confronted with a question. The camera goes behind Robo Taylor, and on the other side Human Taylor is showing that shes an organic organism. After that she proceeds to speak about how shes a heart breaker and this makes her MAD. Human T turns her shell into a weapon.

This time Humanized Taylor sits upon a white horse, Some have said its remincesint of Blank Space. It is possible but I disagree. Since this album, particularly the video Look What You Made Me Do features very popular “old” Taylors, I question if this isnt from White Horse the song from Album. If it were, itd fit PERFECTLY. As a white horse she is reminding Robo Taylor that this isnt going to end well. That she will fall for him despite trying to keep her heart at a distance.

“Maybe I was naive, Got lost in your eyes And never really had a chance My mistake I didn't know to be in love You had to fight to have the upper hand I had so many dreams About you and me Happy endings Now I know..... I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet, Lead her up the stairwell This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town, I was a dreamer before you went and let me down Now it's too late for you And your white horse, to come around” Even though Taylor has grown she is still a romantic at heart and dreams of the fairy tale. This hard world has shoved her into ditching that idea. Human Taylor gets caught up in the fairy tale and floats around in this glass box. Thats when Robo Taylor goes, nope. And shuts her down. Human T falls to the ground. The two are against each other-naturally. Robo T cant have that heart and mind running away when shes trying to play it cool.  “ Baby, let the games begin Let the games begin Let the games begin Baby, let the games begin Let the games begin Let the games begin “ Both Taylors are at odds and shes singing to each other. Screw the boy, the game is against herself now. Human T cant be running away in love, but Robo T cant expect to keep up this facade forever. Someones going to get hurt. Human Taylor is mad, she wants to be free from this box. She wants to express who she really is. Electricity just takes over and lightning is everywhere. But Robo Taylor is intrigued. Human Taylor calms herself and they meet at the glass. She can play nice ;) Both Taylors meet at the glass and touch hand to hand. Thats when they unify. Human Taylor uses her force and breaks the glass, the shards go flying tearing bits and pieces off of robot Taylors face. She cant hide it anymore. | Human Taylor is free, and is in wonderland with the freedom. Her powers destroy the robots everywhere, but you notice on the stairway it says, “Theyre burning all the witches”. This could mean many things but for this narrative, the robots believe the humans are witches, they hold power with their emotions. She stands triumphant at the top of the escalators. They zoom in on her face, her eyes turn robotic and she sheds a tear. This leads me to believe that human Taylor was in that box for her safety. Remember in the very beginning there was a blip shot of robot spiders moving around in small spaces? Well there was, if you missed it. Those robot spiders were a parasite. Theyve infected the Human Taylor and she will become emotionless. The Old Taylor is DEAD. Or if you want a more cheery idea, the two Taylors live together in harmony (sorta). You cant let emotions get the best of you and you cant be hard and emotionless. Thats my EXTREMELY long breakdown of the Taylor Swift Ready For it song and video. Its all over the place and if you even got halfway through it, thanks. :p @taylorswift
