ok im sure the big reason behind why enforcers in the undercity wear gas masks but not everyone seems to need them isn't this deep- it probably has more to do with seeing people's facial expressions in key scenes, like if every time marcus met with silco he wore a mask we'd get Way less insight into where he is/if caitlyn wore one the whole time she was down there it would be hard to tell what she's thinking BUT i love overthinking forever, so. i think it's such an effective symbol of how removed they are from zaun

piltovans can breathe zaun's air, it won't kill them to breathe it for a short while unlike how it kills people from zaun to be born into breathing it their whole lives... anyway, but they choose not to. they think they deserve better than dirty air, and instead of cleaning it so that everyone can breathe freely, they only separate and protect themselves from the problem. the very air they breathe is literally separated between zaun and piltover/the enforcers. it's so fucking good ok
