but it's not about the fact that you agree, it's the fact that you tried to make a defense that may or may not be true. do you happen to know what the original chinese dialogue said? do you know if it was translated accurately or not? or are you basing it off of just what you assume because the dialogue is clunky in some places? (which i actually didn't notice much myself)

and we don't know what exactly was mentioned between kaeya and diluc when they fought. did kaeya mention everything? it's assumed that he mentioned he was a spy, but the phrase "come clean" (kaeya's vision story) is vague in what it means in the context of their fight. and the point i was making wasn't that diluc's reaction isn't bad. we also don't know if diluc cut kaeya off at any point. did he let kaeya say the whole truth before turning on him?

this isn't in defense of diluc or saying that kaeya deserved to be injured over his past. but unless we have confirmed dialogue of what happened and how, we can only infer. and it's hard to write off the entirety of their relationship as brothers (and to determine whether they're good or not as representation) based on unknown factors.

having said that, i believe they're well-written all around. yes, there are fumbles made, but those have actually been proven to be translation choices. the concept of "sworn brothers" as it is in the original is something that's related to chinese culture. it's not a clean-cut concept that you can easily translate into english without explaining what it is thoroughly. and unfortunately, not every translator is going to handle things with grace. but i assume the problem lies with what kaeya mulls over in his story before telling diluc: where his loyalty lies. which i... totally get and actually heavily relate to, being an international adoptee. which do you support: your home country (esp. in kaeya's case, where his birth father sent him specifically to be a spy) or the nation you've been adopted into? that, i believe, is actually a really deep thing to tackle and they handled it decently well.

(also, much of this game's lore and character dynamics is shown through events. to dismiss them because they're in events is to ignore a pretty good chunk of the game's content and character dynamics. like what's your point with that last bit aside from telling me that you just don't care enough to read character stories and play through events?)

i really wanted to like chasca but the way it was constantly hammered that she was adopted felt so alienating. it'd be fine if it was mentioned once as some background, but the fact it happens even when her sister is dying feels sooooo weird. i get the message they're trying to convey is "you may not be related to me but we're still sisters", but to constantly bring it up and even have a conflict over it last patch leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

it's only made worse because genshin has gotten this right before. kaeya and diluc work very well as adoptive siblings and kaeya's story is very believable AND resonates well with the adoptees i've spoken to (myself included).

i get they wanted to try something different. kaeya's character is more about choosing his bio family or his adoptive family (as well as the nations surrounding them), but it's rarely mentioned in character dialogue. as for chasca, it feels like her character revolves around the idea that she was "saved" by adoption and would've been a lost cause, but because she fights with her sister (which is normal sibling behavior), she's suddenly the Adopted one, not actually related, blah blah blah.

But I'm bad at wording things coherently in a post. So instead, please have a long post on a lot of different genshin lore theories, more specifically linked to Istaroth and Barbatos and Khaenri'ah sometimes. Genshin is a special interest and more specifically, the gods and their lore are! The ending point about the Wind being a primordial one is a favourite theory of ours. We actually wrote about it lightly in our recent fic "With Wind Beside You" on ao3!! Anyways, this is ripped straight from discord! This is a lot of disorganised genshin theory ranting. I'd be happy to hear people's thoughts!

Venti suddenly knowing every ballad and song ever- along with being connected to a god of time, worshipped with her, and possible from the same origin- the thousand winds (of time) is a lot more scary for him and how omniscient he may be. There's a lot of. Like. Internet connections to genshin. I did ei's story quest2 last night and that ending cutscene with time? How eternity is everything, all at once? Both future and past? How come it looked like a 3d model set up from a spy movie huh. And irminsul.. is kinda like a super computer!!! It's just super weird !!! But also makoto was close with Istaroth!!!! And Ei thought she might have something to do with it all!!!! concerning . istaroth is being mentioned more and more and it scares me cus that's like our once chance of "old teyvat"/ pre war lore that isn't being gatekeeped by celestia because I don't think they can kill a primordial one tbf. I hope we see her but damn I am scared of her. imagining playing a god of time, how fucked up could they be!

gold / rhinedottir was all fucking over the cataclysm. Durin was attacking Mondstadt, making Barbatos wake up and fight him with Dvalin. Ei was fighting Rifthounds in Inazuma, while Makoto died in the cataclysm- both of those things, made by khemia, by gold! What's gold? The last stage of khemia, go memory! And Rifthounds and Durin must be first, really, Soil. This is all going off my albedo lore knowledge without checking give me some slack- but! Durin and Rifthounds share traits! Poison. Completely disintegrating everything and poisoning the land! Yay! Powerful enough to affect god's! And gods familiars! And *ley lines!* Infact they specifically attack ley lines ***which is what causes erosion!!!!*** So. That's very concerning. Whether they thrive off erosion, or ley line power itself, and cause other things to erode thereafter- bad. Durin is also still alive, partly. The heart. So!

After soil comes chalk! Now, Albedo was made to be a perfect being and then abandoned! Did Rhinedottir not need something sentient? Did she not need intelligent life? Did she want a puppet from afar? Where is she now? Albedo, who she so lovingly named /s, is still trying to figure out her question to what human life means!! And the idea that albedo, too, may one day fall to erosion, is terrifying! Because he is strong!! Very, canonically, if i remember!!! Which isn't *great*.

so the next traveler archon quest has dain and kaeya. Talking. In sumeru. And oh boy Mona's "One day he'll have to pick a side." ***is a lot scarier!*** And ventis line on albedo!! I don't like where this goes!!! Sure I'd kive more cataclysm lore like sure go ahead but holy f u c k. a reason why kaeya isn't cursed would be n i c e. Maybe something of Pierro??? Mentioned??? He's khaenri'an. Theorised to be kaeyas dad really. Which would be funny. And terrifying but funny.

how I jokingly said before in my fic- the wind is very important to death. Atleast to Mondstadtians! The wind carries their souls back to Mondstadt to rest. We can see Venti bring back the memory of Stanley, to bring him to Mond to rest. In the final cutscene of Ei story quest 2, in a literal plane of consciousness, the sakura blossoms of Makoto's life is taken away on the wind. This, and Istaroth, can also link the wind to time and the age old-

The wind, as we know through Venti, can carry songs that don't exist yet, wind is constant through time!! Throughout teyvat!! And we think time could be primordial- and that primordial time goes hand in hand with the wind! Literally!!!! The wind itself/ the Thousand Winds are primordial. They carry all of time, and therefore life and death, stories and songs. Istaroth herself was a god of wind and time. Barbatos a God of wind, freedom, and music. (finally actually said by the most recent lantern rite rite calling him a "patron deity of music.") The wind itself is also sort of a guiding spirit? People usually follow it, or specifically - I have hit the nitro limit oh god - mention it with the moons- also very important to teyvat lore- the three moon sisters, the dead moon and possibly the fake sky! So!!! I personally theorise the Wind is a primordial being and that's why we have three different wind / storm gods and also andrius may count as a storm god. He was a wolf leader and god of snow storms, I think? So??? Maybe. The wind keeps splitting, that's how important it is.

If the wind stops, time stops, I believe.

So imagine if we ever went to the Mare Jirvari. And like where we've seen the corpse of every other god. It's completely frozen in time. The wind stopped there. So time cannot move. And imagine if that's where Istaroth died. that's why it's where the wind doth both blow.

Just saw a genshin theory that in the most recent Archon Quest, the Caribert Quest, Dainsleif was actually manipulating and using the Traveler, or us. And im just- Dainsleif, if this is true, its on SIGHT next time I see you.

Spoilers for the Caribert Quest if you have not played it yet. Also potentially spoilers for Raiden Shogun's Act 2 Story Quest and Tighnari's Story Quest.

The theory has to do with the whole situation of what happens with the Ley Lines are messed with. I dont think this has ever been talked about in Archon Quests? Only ever in Story Quests, specifically Raiden Shogun's Act 2 and Tighnari's.

Essentially, if the Ley Lines are messed with in any capacity, bad things happen. As in Tighnari's story quest, draining power from the Ley Lines caused a disturbance within the forest and anyone who stayed in that area for too long would fall ill and eventually die if not treated. But thats not exactly what happened in Caribert as the Ley Lines were not damaged.

But in Raiden's story quest, the Ley Lines WERE damaged. Or more specifically, the Sacred Sakura which drained the waste from the Ley Lines, and so the Ley Line waste was flowing out. This caused the memories of the deceased to manifest as they once were in life, before fading within a few minutes.

This is very similiar to what happens in Caribert. In Caribert, there's abnormal activity so Dainsleif believes there must be something off with the Ley Lines so he goes to investigate. Paimon follows him, leaving Traveler alone. (From here on, Im going to say Aether but thats because I picked him on my account)

Aether wakes up alone but soon meets Eide, a clearly mentally unstable individual desperate to save his son who has become a Hilichurl. Eide puts us through a bunch of bullfuckery like most do, including us hearing the voice of a "sinner" who Eide claims cannot be a sinner but rather a God greater than the Archons as he may have been the cause for Caribert, Eide's son, regaining his conscious.

When Eide and Aether return to the Hut to check on Caribert, he's gone. And panicked, they follow his trail. Things go wrong and Caribert takes off his mask, something Hilichurls are said to NEVER DO as the sight of their faces are enough to drive them mad. Its assumed after this that Caribert dies, but we're never told.

In a fit of insanity, Eide says that he knew who Aether was all along. And begins saying that the people of Khaenr'iah (oh right, Eide is from Khaenr'iah) believed Aether would protect and lead them. That to them, he WAS the Abyss before calling Aether "Princess." Eide also reveals himself to be named Chlothar Alberich, and Eide was just a name of one of his former servants. Chlothar is the Founder of the Abyss, and assumed to either be Kaeya's ancestor, or Kaeya's father.

Aether realizes what Chlothar just called him, and runs to check the broken mirror. Only to see that his face has been replaced by that of Lumine. Then, he's woken up by Paimon and Dainsleif who he tells what happened. Dainsleif points out that due to the Ley Line damage, he could've been seeing one of Lumine's past memories from her journey in Sumeru. But then says that he has an idea who this "sinner" was before leaving.

Some speculate that Dainsleif purposely messed with the Ley Lines just so the Traveler would see that memory. His reason being curiosity. Dainsleif didn't know why our twin sided with the Abyss, and so he used us to find out. Great 😒

Another theory I've seen is that this journey we're on will never end. But maybe I'll explain it another time

Nat, Nat, Nat … regarding the missing voicelines topic 👀 have you noticed or seen anyone point out that Zhongli’s line about there only being two of the original archons left was unaltered? If Rukkhadevata was wiped from his memory like everyone else’s … then Nahida would’ve always been the Dendro archon … so shouldn’t he tell us that there are only three left instead?

(I’ve seen some surprisingly compelling theories that Zhongli is not originally of Teyvat, and tbh I just think that’s so incredibly sexy of him. He’s such an interesting character and I miss him a lot even tho he’s pretty much a permanent fixture on my team 😂 and this little detail really got me thinking)

The four stars being harder to get than the fives is possibly the wildest part of the Genshin experience tbh - I recently started playing another gacha (for a boy who looks like bottom coded Zhongli lmaooooo) and the rate at which I’ve been bombarded with the lower ranked characters actually makes me sick. 😂 Even worse is how the constellations can make or break a characters utility. I saw people on twitter talking about how Faruzan is only truly useful as an anemo support at C6 and I just … idk how Mihoyo expects us to live like this.

(here is the link for anyone else interested). every day i am waiting for the second part of venti's story quest because i KNOW it will be a massive lore drop, and also because honestly i think he deserves one by now fgbnkjfgjk.

i pulled SO MUCH on the last banner that had sucrose in for her and i didn't get her, just got lucky on one weapon banner ten-pull. i would like, one day, to c6 my kaeya - but alas! four stars are the true frustration of this game. i CANNOT play any more gacha games. my personality is too addictive and completionist. i'm being Reasonably Normal about genshin but another would truly bankrupt me fgbnkjgfn. i wish you much luck on YOUR pulls and rolls in whatever it is you are playing though!!!

* Whenever you go out with him, riding on horseback through the plains, you’re always chatting away about all sorts of critters great and small. 

* When it’s time to retire at an inn for the night, you’re always writing what you saw today in your journal and sketching and you share this with him

* Link wonders why you like animals so much but enjoys listening to your stories - such as the time you went shield-surfing on a sand seal only to fall over and land face first in the sand

* One day you tell him you’ve never seen a Blupee before so Link does everything he can to find one for you. He checks with the locals around for recent sightings and finds the best time/day to see them then in his quiet way, manages to convince you to go with him one night to that area of Kakariko where the path that leads to the fairy is and you both find a hiding spot where you see a Blupee emerging from its burrow

* You both watch it (though Link is actually staring at you the entire time) and the Blupee looks around and hops around for a bit then trips and faceplants and you giggle. It hears and you accidentally scare it off, but you’re so happy you reach for Link’s hand without realising and squeezes his fingers together

* He stares at your joined hands before his cheeks go pink. The two of you then walk hand in hand back to the inn. Link doesn’t talk much so you’ll be the one doing most of the talking but he hopes to share more of these experiences with you in the future.

Diluc:

* One day, you bond when he’s training his falcon.

* You were once too shy to approach him but occasionally see him on his lonesome at the balcony of Dawn Winery where he’s training but once he spotted you and you were like 😳 But he was like do you want to try and you’re still like 😳

* But he’s like ‘here I’ll show you’ with no expression on his face and beckons you closer to him.

* You’re standing there blinking blankly and also asking if this is ok and it is, so Diluc comes to you and fixes a thick arm strap over the length of your arm and pulls it tight and you wonder what’s going on until Diluc puts some food (not using worms, of course) on your arm and suddenly his falcon comes swooping down and lands on your arm and you’re like 😱😱😱

* But from the experience it actually opens you up a bit to him and vice Versa you somehow end up blurting that you like animals too from tiny axolotls to rifthounds (ok technically they’re enemies but still canine like)

* “You don’t say,” is Diluc’s response as he crosses his arms. 

* You blink, realising he wants you to talk more about more so you tell him how you’ve always liked animals. 

* Somehow you can’t seem to stop and just keep going on and on but Diluc is listening

* Before you know it you’re both talking over some juice about the animals of Mondstadt and the rest of Tevyat.

Kaeya:

* Likes going out to find little animals for you. Big animals are a bit more of a challenge but he just likes seeing your face light up when, for eg, he brings you a little sparrow he got from Dragonspine or something

* He knows you’ll free it afterwards but likes to keep bringing different species each time he sees you, and also he is pretty sneaky and does it to get rewards like a kiss on the cheek

* He’ll just come up to you and be like look “what I have for you~”

* You’re like “Kaeya what is it this time”

* And he brings this bird out and hands it to you and you’re like !!!! Yay

* Then he stands closer to you, waiting, so you’re like ‘ok Heehee’ and quickly go on tiptoe to kiss him on the cheek 

* Then for the rest of the day, you’ll both sit in front of the anemo archon statue where you both play with the animal and he listens to you talk about interesting facts about the animal he’s just found for you but when he says he’ll try and catch a boar next time you’re like “Noooo that’s too dangerous, Kaeya. Also where are we going to put it”

I just need to vent a little. 

What is it I am venting about? The theory about Nahida. 

But before we go any further, you guys should know there’s going to be some 🚨SPOILERS🚨 for Sumeru and Inazuma if you haven’t progress far into the game story.

Let me start from the beginning.

The first bandwagon that most players jumped on was about Kaeya. Yeah, that Kaeya.

It was only after learning a bit more about Khaenri’ah (most likely the second Dainsleif/Abyss Order story quest) did the theory of Kaeya being Khaenri’ah’s royal prince appeared.

To be fair, I thought so too. But the community decided that he was the prince without any concrete evidence. Yet, it was not until recently when we were introduced to Diluc’s new skin did we learn that Kaeya is, in fact, NOT of royalty.

That’s one strike.

The next bandwagon theory was in Inazuma.

I think this was from leaks, else there were rumours about an alleged playable character perishing in Inazuma. And that went to Kazuha.

Kazuha was a wanted fugitive of Inazuma and players were speculating that he would perish after confronting the Raiden Shogun. 

This allegation was questioned whether Mihoyo would actually kill a playable character, because it didn’t make sense if the character is already with the players’ teams and the game decided to just kill this character. Honkai players who were also playing the game affirmed that this does happen in Honkai Impact. 

And that started the flood of short comics of Kazuha perishing, friends trying to avenge him etc. on any social media community you can find. Obviously, that never happened.

That’s strike two.

Now, here comes the third bandwagon. Nahida.

The story of Nahida (summarised) is that she appeared after the alleged passing of the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata at the Catalyst 500 years ago. In case you are not sure what the Catalyst is, it’s the fall of Khaenri’ah.

Fast forward to the in-game archon quest, we had one cutscene that tells the story of the relationships of Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, King Deshret (The Scarlet King), and the goddess of flowers. Towards the end of the cutscene, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata expanded her powers to save Sumeru and at the end, shrunk to the size of a small child. Coincidentally, Nahida is also a child.

That’s where the bandwagon comes. Players started confirming that Nahida, aka. Lesser Lord Kusunali, is Greater Lord Rukkhadevata just from that cutscene.

May I ask, how the heck did you guys come to that conclusion?

I am not saying that it is not possible, but players seems to be forgetting that the cutscene could be from a different time point; this probably happened long before the Catalyst. 

Moreover, there’s no confirmation or concrete proof that Nahida may be Rukkhadevata. It is alright if we call it a theory, but players are just jumping into the bandwagon saying that it is true.

I had players telling me in the Facebook Community that it IS a confirmed theory 🤦‍♀️. Like, people, where is the proof?! 

It seems like the Genshin Community has yet to learn their lesson 😮‍💨

Just did a deep dive into your genshin posts to get a feel for your thoughts on things and I'm still unclear but xD I did just want to comment about one of your recent posts. I hate that traveler is so silent on things like finding out about Kaeya. Especially since they have added canon lore stuff that matters in the main story (not just side stuff) to events (like that Scara had the gnosis and was MIA). Finding out sword stuff about Kazuha's family was cool but missing it isn't the worst

(2) Having archon quests like 1.4 and then getting the chance to confront Zhongli and us getting nothing (especially after getting nothing after fixing Liyue...), proceeded by getting several encounters with Venti and not confronting him at all despite 1.4 mentioning him in the "next time we see Zhongli or Venti..." option is just so frustrating

I'm actually really glad that you read through so many of my posts, it feels nice that even the older ones are still of interest to someone 🥺 Honestly I know I can be over-critical at times, but Genshin still fascinates me as a piece of media. Like, it both goes much further when it comes to writing quality than a gacha game would be expected to go, but also it.. sucks. It has an amazing cast of interesting characters, but then it does so little with them that you're left questioning your choices in fiction. Like, I recognize a lot of the themes and tropes which are also prevalent in other games and anime, but I think Genshin really does have its unique and in-depth take on it. So it's a shame that it can't quite reach the level of actually being good.

But to be fair to the Traveler... 1) Overall writing of Genshin suffers from pacing issues due to its gameplay and content release plans, I get why writers sometimes have trouble reconciling certain things even if it IS frustrating. And yeah, events are in that nebulous space where they sort of maybe happened in-canon but also not necessarily, so the game kind of awkwardly ignores most of what we learn through them. 2) But in case of Kaeya!

The Traveler already seems to have suspected something since this is clearly an answer to a pointed question, and they don't ask this of anyone else, so it's likely that the Traveler recognizing Kaeya's nationality isn't meant to be something surprising. Plus Kaeya's answer clearly shows that he isn't interested in further discussion, so it kiiiiind of makes sense why the Traveler would drop the issue. Kaeya already threw the Traveler a bone when he updated them on the Abyss Prince(-ess), but this doesn't look like a man ready to discuss his homeland or how it was destroyed. By the way, note how this kind of thing never happens anymore! Characters don't actively seek out the Traveler to tell them stuff, which also feels really awkward. 3) The 'next time we see Zhongli or Venti' thing was inexcusable. Like why phrase it like that? Even worse, going to Inazuma was given the flimsiest excuse, when it would make more sense to at least go to either straight to Sumeru or Snezhnaya for more knowledge. Like, the game didn't give us any reasons why traveling there would be more difficult than the isolated Inazuma or why Inazuma would be the logical next step. 4) They could have at least mentioned in the events that Venti or Zhongli are super avoidant and difficult to find, only appearing when it suits them, but nope, if we want to find them we just Go and Do That. 5) Another side of this is that there are plenty of characters who should be suspecting the Traveler themselves of being inhuman and overall a very strange being, but so far only Albedo vocalized his suspicions. To say nothing of Paimon! The Archons most probably recognize what she is, and I bet once the reveals about her come they will be like 'oh yeah we knew all along'. Which would be, once again, kinda weird. 6) I think this is both a case of not having clear enough plans for the future plot and also the unfortunate 'no spoilers!!' disease. I honestly believe that the game would play much better if the characters' intelligence wasn't put down like that, and if more of them just said what they think. Not much would change really!

BNHA characters and their genshin experiences

I've been way into genshin for the past couple months, if anyone wants to play with me message me (I'm lvl 45 rn) but be warned I have shitty internet and am a partial razor main

but this is mainly characters I can see actually putting time into genshin

Bakugou

Mains: Yanfei

his main has probably been most every pyro character at some point

he wants diluc so bad, whenever someone else complains that diluc ruined their pity he wants to ruin their existence

before yanfei his main was probably hu Tao

hed definitely play klee if he had her lmao but he doesnt and is patiently waiting for her rerun

he has a lot of 5 star characters and is f2p, he can always get banner characters within at least the first pity, but for standard 5 stars hes gotten keqing and qiqi way too many times and hes livid

especially as a previous hu tao main, he was begging for Jean, still has yet to come home

hes probably a very high level, not fully maxed out considering he hasnt been playing all that long, he was probably forced to start when the rest of the bakusquad started playing it and he just took off

probably only started playing because Izuku asked him to

kaeya has also been on his team since day 1 and he is never leaving doesnt matter his friendship has been level 10 for weeks now who cares

was f2p until xiao, who didnt want to come home at all, and he finally got him on his 180th pull

now he doesnt care and will buy primogems whenever hes bored

he has a lot of constellations on kaeya and hes so proud of that, probably c4, is considering buying way too many primogems just so that he can hopefully get his c6

now his artifact luck is godly, you'll go into a domain with him and be like ugh I got nothing and hes like I got a 4 piece set with all attack or crit rate/damage main stats like haha I hate you

but yeah his characters are very strong cause of this, but he doesnt put effort into building a lot of them, he only levels up and gives good artifacts to his team and a couple other characters he likes but everyone else just sits there for a while

hes not super obsessed with the game, but he does think its funny seeing bakugou get so upset whenever they do domains together

doesnt even bother doing daily tasks really unless hes trying to save primogems

Midoriya

Mains: Venti

hes so good at building characters, like he looks up builds online and watches those "do INSANE damage with these tips" videos - and he sets out to get them done and he does

bakugou is once again livid whenever they play together, because Izuku barely has to try and can do so much more damage than him

he does have to put in a lot of work for his artifacts though because he doesnt settle for the okay ones he needs the absolute best

he builds his favorite characters the most ofc, but he evenly distributes things to other characters he knows can be useful- those characters might not have insane stats but they're still good

will not kill timmies pigeons, hell hunt birds in the wild for fun though

definitely a food hoarder

also does a lot of exploring and probably has at least 90% for each area

Kaminari

Mains: Lisa

he is 1000% in love with Lisa, he took her quest very seriously

and so many people say shes horrible, he hates it, hes made her crazy strong out of spite

his team consists of only his wifus- meaning lisa, beidou, rosaria, and mona

for a long time beidou was his second but then rosaria came along and hes like ugh big tiddy goth gf, but lisa still remains queen

these are the only characters hes built though, save for a couple like probably razor and xiangling that he used before he fully got this team

is an ayaka saver

he doesnt care too much about most 5 stars but will sometimes get them just to say he has them, but they end up just sitting there rotting away because he never puts work into them

he does have hu tao though and would get ganyu if she ever had a rerun

Kirishima

Mains: Diluc Razor or Beidou

they're all on his team, the last person switches out but it's most likely zhongli or childe

hes all about dps, support who, he just wants to hit hard and do insane damage , so yes he made dps zhongli

except his builds arent that great, with some help his builds are decent, but on his own hell be like ugh that's some sexy 300 damage

probably didnt know what 90% of the stats even meant and just put random attack ones on people and went yeah that looks good

doesnt really care though and is just having fun so hell play how he wants (as he should) but he does have to ask for help when farming bosses

loves exploring but misses so much, hell get distracted easily and end up just messing around

honestly probably hasnt bothered to ascend his world since he got to level 35, if he did the quest hed probably go straight to 45 and even then hed still have extra exp because hes been there for so long oml

but eventually he would have to and hed be trying to do it like :,) this is fine and it takes him a lot of tries but he gets there eventually,,, only to immediately have another one waiting for him poor baby

Mina

Mains: Klee or Xiangling

thinks baizhu is hot (and is correct) so shes desperately waiting for him

was a I must play 24/7 player until after the last story quest, then she got kinda bored but still plays frequently so she can save primogems and likes playing co op

goes into random peoples worlds a lot

shes got some pretty strong characters and is proud of her account

definitely makes tiktoks of her playing with the bakusquad cause it's always v chaotic (it's probably only denki and kirishima most of the time, but sometimes either bakugou or sero will join in)

does all the genshin tiktok trends

shes a pretty high level since shes probably been playing for a while and has most everything done

she loves helping lower level people though she thinks it's so cute and loves the power she feels when she one shots things

Sero

Mains: Xingqui

hes a pretty casual player, kinda only plays when hes bored or the others make him play with them

but his stats arent too bad, they're fairly average but he gets by

has so many primogems because he doesnt bother to wish on anyone, probably wants kazuha though

he does get super invested into the story though, hes so curious about the world and where the story is gonna lead

probably watches a lot of genshin theory videos and now he over thinks everything in the game

he explores a lot, not so much to find every single thing but more so just because he likes looking at everything, hes very excited for all the new places

Shinsou

Mains: Childe

hes a very thorough player, he explores a lot and puts a lot of work into building his characters

most of them arent all that great but he has plans to fix them

his main team is very well built, not the best, but still good

he struggles when he has to switch someone out for a domain or something because his other characters are so painfully mediocre right now and he feels so bad

shinsou, playing a character that can do like max 200 physical damage and biggest damage is like 2 thousand, repeatedly saying I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you deserve so much better, I'm so sorry

even if it's not the worst damage by far, he feels bad about anything under his main team's stats because they're just so much higher

broke. has no primogems. spent them all on childe and his constellations. does he regret it? well he sure does appreciate his c6 so- hell manage

yes he spent real money on his stupid mass murderer who he loves very much

fights childe every day even though he already collected the treasure, he is but a humble simp

probably decently lucky with wishing like he can beat the 50/50 almost every time

Tamaki

Mains: Chongyun and Sucrose

he only started playing recently, probably kirishima got him into it, but he immediately fell in love

kirishima was like tell me when you're level 16 so we can play together !!! and 2 days later tamaki was level 16 and kiri was shook because how the hell did he do it so fast

hates domains, the dread he feels when he realizes the lower level isnt going to give him anything anymore, and he has to move up to the next, and the next,,

asks kirishima to help him only to realize he isnt much help, is too nice to say that so he let's kiri keep trying- one day kiri gets deku to play with the two of them and tamaki almost cries because finally he can get through the level 90 domain and actually get things ugh

cannot get xingqui to save his life he refuses to come home and poor tamaki is so sad he wants him a lot hes even got all his materials saved up

Monoma

Mains: Ningguang

honestly doesnt play all that much but takes pride in making his account seem v good, is a whale

but hes very good at the game, didnt know what the artifacts were for at first and gave people ones based on how they looked but once he figured it out hes fixed them

is a very standard player, logs in every day to do his commissions and use his resin then logs out, he doesnt put too much time into the game and doesnt worry if he misses a day or two

worships ningguang, also really likes xinyan, his other team members are probably venti and albedo

has every single banner 5 star that has come out since he started playing, probably doesnt have klee though and is v upset about it, and is thanking the heavens for all the reruns lately

also doesnt have keqing and wants her a lot cause he likes her

accepts every single co op request he gets, and despite what a lot may think hes actually a very nice person to play with, not toxic at all - unless you're someone he knows then he might be mean to you shshshsh

Shigaraki

Mains: Razor

haha isnt it so odd that they sound so similar haha (if you dont know they have the same japanese va and I'm guessing hed play it in Japanese)

obviously he can be kinda busy ya know being a criminal and all that but when hes not he puts a lot of time into genshin

sadly doesnt have very good luck when it comes to characters or artifacts, but hes doing his best even with 0 primogems and his 50% crit rate

doesnt explore all that much, most of the exploring hes done came from him trying to get all the oculus

his razor is so good though, except that's the only character hes put tons of effort into

except for now zhongli, hes not replacing razor but ugh does he love zhongli

but his other characters are pretty mediocre at best, he could build them if he wanted to, hes good enough at gaming to figure it out, he just doesnt have the time to spend to do it so he focuses on his main team

also (spoiler alert kinda) when we had to go to the wolf spirit to fight the abyss herald and razor was there, afterwards how razor was saying how he was too weak and stuff and was super sad, at that very moment shiggy decided the entire abyss order had to be destroyed - sorry aether (he chose lumine) but razor is more important than you

thoughts on genshin

mk, so last night i posted something quick about how i think the best way for genshin’s plot to move forward would be, which can be found here if anyone wants to read that first, and since that’s getting a decent amount of notes and i can’t help but ramble, i’m expanding on that.

as a quick warning, this does mention the newest archon quests, but only in passing, and without going into further detail about them. still, if you don’t want to see anything about the tone of those, it’s there. 

anyway, rambling below the break!

so to sum up my thoughts, the traveler needs to come to same realization that the abyss twin did, which is that celestia and/or destiny needs to be taken down.

from little lore we have of celestia, it wouldn’t surpise me if it ended up playing an antagonistic role in the story. from what i can tell from the story, celestia essentially wiped out khaenri’ah for not believing in the gods, and is the closest thing we can tie the unknown god to.

given this, seeing both the traveller and the abyss twin reach the conclusion that celestia isn’t this great or noble thing, and both end up rebelling against it, is definitely the direction i’d take the game if i was one of the writers, especially since we’ve seen they’re not afraid to be a little bit dark, as we saw from the recent archon quests in inazuma.

the way i see it, this can go one of two ways, with the traveller joining the abyss order or them creating a group of their own, consisting of all the people they’ve met and gained the trust of throughout their travels.

to me, this does a few things. 

it creates a parallel between the twins, which, as if now, we still don’t know much about. we know that they’re fundamentally human, that they can travel across worlds, and that they were separated sometime around the time khaenri’ah fell, leading to the abyss twin starting a war with celestia, but that’s pretty much it. 

so making an opportunity to create parallels between the two could give us more lore about not only the twins, but maybe even the abyss order and khaenri’ah, depending on how it’s written. it also helps with the fact that, even though the game is based around the twins finding each other after journeying across teyvat, their relationship is one of the least developed things in the game so far. 

the other major thing this would do is set up a foundation for interactions between the different regions.

as if now, you only see characters interacting with people from the region their based in, which makes sense at this point in the game. as genshin progresses, and the traveller learns more and more about teyvat, and possibly celestia and the abyss, it’d definitely be an interesting way to tie in characters from different regions.

the abyss order is one of the few constant groups in the game, and there are people in at least two of the three nations with ties to it (childe and kaeya, and maybe even the archons or dainsleif), so using the abyss as a way to make connections between the different groups is definitely something that could work out. 

anyway, i hope i didn’t bore anyone with this, and while i highly doubt genshin will go in anywhere near this direction and i don’t really mean this as a prediction, i think it’s an interesting think to think about.

It's kinda hard for me to look up the lore and backstories of the characters, but I'd really like to understand more about the characters you're writing about. AH, anon, thank you so much - I’ve been seriously enjoying Genshin a lot recently, and I’m so happy that you like what I’ve been writing for it! Unfortunately, you've landed upon the reason that I actually originally dropped Genshin Impact after I first started playing it! I got back into it because of the phenomenal character lore back in May, but, ah, tragically, I commisserate with you over the fact that it can be difficult to get into initially.

I'm also going to very gently and sadly reject giving rundowns of the characters, purely because there are many characters, I think that I would want to include a lot and tend to write my fics like they're love letters to what I enjoy about a particular character anyways, BUT I am going to give you some resources to find that information yourself!

Genshin Impact has a lot of lore that's scattered all over the place. It's in character stories, character quests, hangouts, limited time events, side quests, artifact and item descriptions, you name it. There's entire accounts dedicated to collating and speculating on Genshin Impact lore. Their team really did a good job making it feel like an immersive world with fascinating things to be found everywhere. That said, it makes it hard to get a grasp of everything! Especially because there are characters like Kaeya, who keep a lot of secrets that you don't learn unless you read into their backstories, or Albedo, who has most of his lore locked behind time-limited events.

The most important things, however, are usually found in character stories and voice lines! Whenever I write a fic, I tend to actually just go to the Genshin wiki and reread through the character backstories and flip through their voice lines to see how certain relationships are. Aside from that, there have been a few limited time events that have had significant lore and backstory dump and are unfortunately not accessibly in-game anymore - BUT are available on YouTube as "let's play"s and on the Genshin wiki as voiceovers you can read or even play the voice lines from. (The events to look for are The Chalk Prince and the Dragon, Unreconciled Stars, Shadows Amidst Snowstorms, and maybe the Golden Apple Archipelago one). I can't recommend the wiki enough, though, that thing is put together with a lot of love and has links to documented everything. It brings my organizationally-oriented information-hoarding heart SO much joy.

Since I've been writing a lot of Albedo, I'll link to his page as an example here. The overview tab is great, but the real gold mine is the lore tab. It has transcripts of all his friendship level unlockable character stories, links to pages for all the quests he's been in (which includes summaries and quest dialogue for all those quests), and even an outline of which other characters he's had interactions with, as well as a trivia section.

All that said, if you have more specific questions about particular characters, events, plot points, or my own stories, please let me know! I'm happy to talk about this stuff, I just can't really tackle something like an overall rundown, haha.

Childe’s Banner and why I want it

(but not enough to spend on it, sorry mihoyo)

I went into the final ten days before Update 1.1 knowing full well that I was going to spend all my money and primogems on one banner and one banner only: Zhongli’s. I love him to death and from my experience playing Xiangling, I also really enjoy the polearm class in Genshin in general. I like Childe (yeah I know his name is Tartaglia but I haven’t come up with a nickname for that yet (art? Arthur? ari? Tarta?) so I’m calling him Childe for now) as a character and I cannot wait to see more of him in Act 3 and his story quest, but idk if I really need another archer with Fischl on my team or another Hydro when I have Barbara and Mona.

But then, I saw Childe’s passive talent.

And those few, simple words? They changed everything.

Most of the characters’ passive talents are mediocre at best. Some of them make extra food (meh to okay), some of them give you extra ascension materials (I love these characters), some of them make it easier to craft weapons (I like this one the least :/), some go on missions faster, and some of them give you extra stamina (hell yes). But Childe’s passive? Childe’s passive is absolutely insane.

Just as an example, I recently took Fischl’s Oz elemental ability from Talent Level 3 to Level 4. And it’s transformed Oz from a decent turret to a literal DPS in his own right. My main team is almost entirely reliant on pyro (Diluc, Xiangling, Fischl, and a very underleveled Kaeya) but if I’m ever facing pyro slimes or whopperflowers? At this point all I have to do is drop Oz and he fecking clears the field like the absolute unit he is!

Leveling up talents is so important because it gives you not just extra damage but also higher crit rates and that’s absolutely insane and can take your combat abilities from “decent” to “holy shit you’re a maniac”. And Childe just?!!!!??! He just GIVES you a free talent level up for the three other active characters on the field?!!!?! That’s ridiculously good, especially in comparison to Zhongli’s mediocre ability of giving you a refund when crafting polearms!

Holy shit. I’m still saving for Zhongli. I want Rex Lapis on my team and I am willing to give Mihoyo money for him.

But.

If I have any extra primogems and Childe’s banner comes after Zhongli’s?

I will spend every extra primogem I have after spending on Zhongli’s banner to try and get Childe. It’ll be futile— I’ll either not get close to the pity numbers or end up losing the final coin flip— but god damn, I am willing to fecking do so if it means a chance, the slightest chance, at Childe’s fucking insane passive ability.

i also think he’d be a great addition to my abyss team especially if razor’s on Zhongli’s banner so I could switch him in to have a team of razor, chongyun, childe, and Barbara with that frozen superconduct combo that would be sick and—

FINALLY!!!!!). i honestly think scara lives in my head rent free and occasionally likes to remind me he’s there, usually at inconvenient times, which is very in character for him 🙄🥴

as for the irodori festival itself - i had a lot of fun with it!! learning that scara had a lot do to with the kaedehara clan's downfall was very interesting. i wonder how kazuha will react when he finds out the one responsible for it is still alive. a lot of people assume that he'll be fine with it, but i don't know. also, seeing the kamisato siblings interact!!!!! made my day!!!!! i wish we got to see other characters interactions more, like venti and ayaka. that seemed so random but fit so well at the same time.

i wish i had more time to truly enjoy it, because it was a really nice and chill event if you look at it. the poem clues ayato came up with had me invested, honestly.
