of me hitting 200k in the rough draft of my new longfic, and of my having been working on it for over an ENTIRE YEAR, NOW, and also of my desire to start with stuff like WIP Wednesday etc, I PRESENT to All Of You the summary for my Wangxian-centric MDZS ascension au:

In Memory; In Truth:

Some people say that to ascend to godhood is to never die, regardless of circumstance. That ascension at the moment of death negates the death itself, because the person in question was never actually a corpse. Wei Wuxian disagrees. He felt his death, and he knows it happened, and if people want to get picky about phrasing he's more than ready to get into it with them because he died. He absolutely died, then ascended, then left the mortal plane behind with the intent of not seeing much of it at all for the next hundred years or so because fuck that, fuck them, and fuck their politics. If only. Thirteen years after his death-slash-ascension, he's been sent down on behalf of the Celestial Court to find out who's kidnapping their junior officials and why, and he starts by appearing to someone he hears speaking very fervently to a memorial tablet. For some reason, Nie Huaisang is asking for his help and, well… as a god, as this is technically a prayer, he's at least obliged to listen.

I'm so excited!!! But I have to write the rest of the fic and edit before I can actually start publishing. However, I have enough of it done now that I feel confident talking about it with all of you.

Upon discovering Mr. Chidouin's deceit and his true ties to Asunaro, Kai Satou takes responsibility of his life. However, the mantle of Godfather requires no specific person; Asunaro callously marches forward with its plans of the Death Game. In the wake, Kai is left to manage the organization's suspicions and the Chidouin family's health. Forever reminded of the blood on his hands, no matter the noble cause. Within the organization, Michiru remains unsure of who to trust, of how to progress. The Ultimatum would bring forth such valuable information on human limitations, but proceeding would break her only promise. Asunaro's oppressive darkness is only lightened by one another—yet, to hold by their resolve means to make an enemy of the other. Everything feels uncertain, but they must act. After all, five years is all they have.

⊹ Mr. Chidouin is murdered in December, just as the dawn of the new year approaches. Kai is twenty-three; Sara is thirteen and her mother, Atsuko, is forty-five. Sara's life otherwise proceeds as normal: remaining close friends with Ryoko, attending Sonobeno (and meeting Jou), so on… although neither Atsuko nor Kai are as expectant of her, her father's influence remains. Because of her father's death, she struggled to accept Kai as yet another sudden, unwanted change in her life, but they've become close (…despite bouts of conflict, when it comes to what Kai knows concerning the passing.)

⊹ Although Asunaro is tentatively willing to accept Mr. Chidouin's death to be of natural cause, the circumstances can never be deliberated enough. Kai, due to his history of reluctance to kill and evident emotional connection to the Chidouins, takes on less suspicion than agents who had interacted with Mr. Chidouin the day of his death (as he made an emergency visitation for Atsuko's health.)

— However, Kai is not entirely cleared and is instead under Sou Hiyori's observation for an undetermined amount of years, while he serves as an additional guard of the Chidouin family as this failure of an agent is clearly unfit for such work. Gashu keeps his distance, only communicating through Hiyori where he must, but otherwise letting Hiyori act of his own volition—which often entails comparing Shin to Sara, a topic of conversation which Kai despises.

⊹ This is, essentially, a "No Death Game AU" and there are a few participants who meet nonetheless. Those Kai seeks out, is assigned to gathering information on, or who search for him. Of course, Asunaro cannot be brought down so easily, and it's something which often occupies Kai's/Michiru's minds (particularly in later chapters, when there isn't as much surveillance on either of them), but its overall intent is to focus on Kai and Sara as they process the grief and learn to heal and live again.

I have now finished the outline for this fic, and am currently working on it! However, I don't think I'll begin publishing it until I at least have the first ten chapters done (which has... taken a while. between everything I've been busy with + that I'm a bit picky with my writing :'P)

I am also mostly done with the character references for the major Asunaro antagonists, but I did indulge a bit of their characters through a friend's ask here! & That post also links to their face refs in the starting summary, but I'll link it again here too <3

One of the asks in waiting is also from a friend who wants to see just which participants are going to be most involved, and I'm nearly done with that as well! I was having a difficult time making myself coherent on that ask, considering the amount of characters I wanted to balance info. on, but I'll be posting that shortly after I'm finished with my tests!

Derek Hale/Chris Argent Fic Reclist

Derek/Chris is such a very very rare ship that I have been through the (currently) 158 works in the tag numerous times and picked out all my favorites (13 in total), carefully filtering out the stuff I don't like (OT3s, kinks, unwanted sideships, etc - just my own personal tastes). So I decided to write up a reclist for anybody who was craving content and didn't want to sift through AO3 themselves! The fics are sorted by season, and my favorites are marked with a ♡.

(A note: because everybody does warnings differently and what needs to be warned for is so subjective and I'm a little short on time, I chose not to cover warnings on this list. If you're the type of person who wishes to avoid certain material, please check the warnings on the fic page itself before you read!)

Season 2

The Scars That We Earned by Sandrine Shaw [10k]

The Alpha pack closes in and finds them easy targets: still recovering from their latest battle, old alliances fractured and new ones not formed yet. Chris Argent makes a fateful choice, setting in motion a chain of events that will leave the status quo forever changed.

Firstly: shoutout to this one for being (according to AO3, I don't know about other sites) the first Derek/Chris fic ever. It's got werewolf!Allison in it, and deals a bit with what happened to Victoria, and Allison especially has to deal with what happened to Victoria after she's turned, which is an interesting sideplot I wasn't expecting when I first read it. It feels really IC; prior to the get-together, Chris and Derek aren't afraid to hurt each other physically or with words. It takes a little time for them to get used to one another, it isn't too immediate or sudden.

Back and Forth by incendiary1 [1.9k]

This is how they are, this is how they'll always be. Derek and Chris have a tenuous balance.

This one is short, but it's basically all unresolved (semi-sexual) tension, which is really what I loved between these two at the very end of Season 2. I like especially that Chris attempts to excuse Gerard and Kate for what they did by excusing Derek for Victoria; it doesn't quite work like that, of course, but it's nice to see him written a bit flawed.

Season 3A

But It Won't Erase by broadcastdelay [8.9k]

When newly-turned werewolves start popping up in Beacon Hills, Chris Argent goes to bring Derek back to town to help clean up the mess. In cleaning up the mess, though, one last werewolf gets created. And somehow that’s not even the most unexpected development in Chris’s life that year.

So this one has werewolf!Chris, which is one of my favorite tropes, mainly because of all the tension and internal struggle involved, which this delivers on. It's VERY well-paced, and the thoughtfulness in Chris's internal narrative about his family and their history and his own history with Derek is a nice addition. I like the most that even though Derek is an alpha in this, Chris finds the idea of submitting to his authority laughable; eventually, so does Derek.

♡ a year in the life by allthebees [27k]

Things are as close to normal as they’re ever going to get for the Hale pack, after everything they’ve all been through in the last couple of years, when Cora starts noticing something weird going on between her brother and Chris Argent at the beginning of senior year. As if that weren’t enough of a problem it isn’t long before the odd monster here and there turns into a coven of witches who roll into town, decide to kick the werewolves’ den, and very nearly ruin everything.

Or: snapshots of a year in the life.

I did not, even a little bit, expect you could sell this pairing to me in a way like this. This fic is almost romcomish, in the plot of Cora trying to figure out what's going between her brother and Chris before anything is actually going on and the both of them remaining perfectly oblivious to any sexual tension while they contentedly go about becoming better friends. I like also that Chris and Derek hang out with Melissa and the sheriff a lot in this fic because it's very refreshing to get to see Derek around other adults, and for them to have their own friend group outside of the kids. While the fic doesn't exactly focus on the Derek/Chris (it's one of many plots going on throughout the year) it happens pretty believably and there's a nice moment where Derek has to address with Cora how it's different than what happened with Kate and how Chris and Allison, similarly, have to talk about what happened to Victoria (another thing I didn't think I could be sold on; usually I prefer to spare her the horror, but this fic does it really believably and well!). I absolutely love this one and it's definitely the longest one on this list, so if you enjoy longfic, you’ll like it too.

Season 3B

Allies by darkmagess [4.1k]

1. The scene at the end of 3x19 between Derek and Chris Argent that was so clearly missing.

2. When Derek wakes up after the nogitsune's fly almost makes him kill Chris.

3. After the nogitsune is taken care of, Chris disappears into his mourning for Allison. Derek decides to not leave him alone in his grief.

This is actually a series of 3 short episode codas, and while they're actually friendship fics and not technically slash, for a long time they were some of the only 3B content I had for these guys, and I still really enjoy them; there's a lot of rawness and vulnerability in them on both Chris’s and Derek’s part.

Nous protégeons by salvage [1.8k]

Immediately post-Letharia Vulpina. Chris and Derek in the aftermath of the explosion.

This is another 3B coda, except this one is, to quote the author's notes, a sexy coda. I'm pretty sure this is the first slash for this pairing I ever read, and the sex really is pretty sexy; despite Chris having to do the work of pulling the shrapnel out of Derek's back, they try to stay impersonal with each other up until they moment they don't, so it's just the right amount of rough.

I'm no good (you're no better) by broadcastdelay [1.5k]

Despite his intention of avoiding both Argents and heroism, neither of which he feels particularly well-suited for, Derek ends up with 74 shards of glass embedded in his back and a Chris Argent who seems to disagree.

Yet another coda from from the season that keeps on giving. What I like about this one is all of Chris's deep existential thoughts meet with Derek's usual impersonal and blunt nature, and the juxtaposition is almost funny. He still winds up eyeing Chris suspiciously, then turns his back on him. The dynamic in this one is really something.

To Vex by Twisted_Slinky [2.3k]

Derek is in the middle of hunting down a deadly creature when Chris Argent appears to save the day and strip off his shirt. Blame it on the gremlins.

A short and sometimes funny fic where Chris and Derek have to use the age-old technique of "pretending to be banging" to avoid raising the suspicion of the law. As always, Chris gets to make a pretty grand entrance.

♡ Not Yet by d0nquix0te [5.9k]

Three people who've lost their families make a family of their own.

In this one Chris and Derek accidentally kind of wind up becoming Isaac's dads right after Allison's death, and it's honestly such a perfect match-up I wish there were about a hundred more just like it. All three of them know grief and loneliness very well, and it winds up being the perfect environment for Chris, who didn't cry when his daughter cried, to finally allow the grief to catch up with him. What gives this a nice touch is that he's clearly terrified of facing it, and Derek opens up a little to him in an effort to give him some courage; overall a truly fantastic dynamic.

♡ Box of Wormwood by Emmessann [21k]

When Chris took the headshot, Kate exploded -- burst into a swarm of satanic butterflies. Now Derek's terminally infested, waiting to see what physical or emotional hell will break out next. Chris would give anything to save his friend, but they both know the clock is ticking on their last desperate hope.

This one is a really hard, heavy read—I've only read it twice myself—because of how heavily it deals with the themes of death, grief, terminal illness, and suicide. (And terror of all things buglike, but that's a personal thing, lol.) The actual slash here is minimal, considering Derek's condition, and the ending is a bit unexpected and pretty strange—but it's also ultimately hopeful, and the fic as a whole is definitely well-written, spectacularly written; not only are Chris and Derek's voices perfect, it's the only one on this list that actually not only made me cry, but got me crying both times I read it.

♡ I've Seen This Face Before by entanglednow [1.1k]

"Come any closer and I'll shoot you in the throat."

Another werewolf!Chris fic, this one is very short and actually preslash, but it packs more tension in a thousand words than I even thought possible, both internal tension on Chris's part, fighting the shift, and tension of the sexual type between him and Derek. This fic introduced me to werewolf!Chris and I'm now highly into it, so take that as the glowing recommendation that it is.

♡ Slow Dance by RarePairFairy [1.6k]

They dated for some time before admitting that they were going on dates. At first, to reassure themselves and each other, it was just spending more time together. Derek was “just coming to look over some stuff”. Or Chris was just “heading out for a few drinks”.

Just to get this out of the way, I love this fic for having the most relatable tags:

That struggle is real; it took me about three years to figure out the proper tag to track on tumblr.

That aside, I absolutely adore this one for its own sake as well; as much as I love some nice rough sexual tension, I equally adore the slow and careful tenderness in this fic. Chris and Derek are both hyperaware of their history with each other and each others' families, and they do the smart thing and take it slow, so they can build something solid; it's different from most of the stuff I see for this ship but a dynamic I'm very very into.

Maybe, In the Future by dedougal [2.8k]

“I like you better as a beta,” Chris turned to him, looking over his shoulder. That surprised Derek.

The slowest of burns, Chris and Derek don't even get together in this one until at least five years down the line. I'm not normally one for futurefic, but this one meanders on its way without being too jarring or slow, and it's nice to watch them get to have a lot of time between enemies and lovers. (Also, I know I said I wasn't doing warnings, but I feel like I should warn for the sex pollen trope in this one; it's usually a hard pass on my part but it's about as consensual as that sort of trope gets if that's a thing you worry about.)

And finally, I'm not tacky or self-congratulatory enough to rec my own Derek/Chris fic here, but since I did go to the trouble of typing up a reclist, I don't have enough shame not to say I've earned a little plug—but no pressure if longfic's not your thing. :')

recently read this and it instantly became one of my fav sns fics ever. everything about it was just perfect. slow burn usually makes me impatient, but it was done so lovely in this fic. i could really feel the way they fell in love with each other 🥺 the writing is also absolutely flawless and moonwatcher's Sasuke was so freaking spot on (i'm usually really picky with Sasuke in fics so!!!)

this fic 🤧 sasuke's pain was so raw and real, i teared up multiple times. i'm also a sucker for soft!sasuke and he's so soft in this fic <3 it also gave me multiple cavities lmao, such a good read!!

"Sasuke’s sharingan spins threateningly, and Naruto thinks of the Uchiha curse. They are burdened to love so intensely, so completely that the loss of it drives them into madness and power. They’re feared for the strength of their obsessions, scoffed at for their clinginess. Naruto must be wrong in the head, because the mere thought of it turns butterflies in his stomach."

5. What’s a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies?

...uhm...i...don't think i have one? i will say, i was hesitant to tag major character death when fault lines went up on AO3 because i thought it would like...ruin? part of the story, but i did it anyway just because MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH is hard and it's important to warn readers!! and it turns out it didn't ruin anything.

11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated.

idk if this is a trope, but im like...not down for coffee shop AU's that much? like they're cute!! but...meh? i only need one and im good. i'm picky about fanfic, honestly. i don't really know how to answer this because I'll read anything if its well written enough and i won't care, but if it's badly written or i don't like the vibe, even if its a trope i love i won't fuck with it. less trope, more content.

21. Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what’s your secret?

chapter wise? yes. because i give myself an arbitrary chapter count and then i don't deviate. if i said its 13 chapters, it's thirteen chapters and its MY JOB as a writer to make it fit in there and tell a compelling story within those parameters. it's not the chapters fault or the fics fault that i gave it too less or too many. it's my job to figure it out!!

Also I REALLY love your fics, especially The Oncoming Storm! Yours were the first fanfics I read and they're one of the few I like (I'm picky) so thanks for doing such brilliant stories!

“Hang on a minute, Doctor.“ Donna walked back over to the TARDIS doors after the Doctor had closed them with a snap of his fingers. She thought she’d seen something, just as the doors had closed.

“What’s wrong?“ The Doctor frowned and followed her, both sticking their heads out.

“Oi, lady!“ Donna called stopping a young woman that had just strolled past the TARDIS and was heading back deeper into the Library. Everyone was supposed to be evacuated by now.

“Sorry?“ The woman looked around, blonde hair framing soft features and big eyes. She looked to them as if she hadn’t expected them to be there.

“You can’t go in there.“ The Doctor gestured to the door that lead further into the Library as they stepped out of the TARDIS again. Only a moment longer and they would have taken off and missed her sneaking in here.

“Ahh… so close. Just a bit too early, wasn’t I, hate it when I do that…“ The blonde said to herself more than anything else.

“Did you just come here? The planet has been sealed off for a hundred years, how did you…“ The Doctor frowned, confused as to how she’d got in.

“Yeah, been meaning to check it out.“ The woman grinned. “The hair is magnificent, isn’t it.“ She eyed the Doctor up who looked back at her utterly bewildered. There was something familiar about her.

“Do I know you?“ He asked.

“No absolutely not, never mind me, I’m sure you got important things to do, so.“ She gave a little wave, intend on heading off.

“You can’t go in there, we’re evacuating the planet.“ Donna backed up the Doctor.

“I know, you have a nice day now.“ The woman grinned.

“Sorry, I can’t let you do that.“ The Doctor was quick to overtake her and step in her way. “This place is gonna get swallowed up by flesh eating darkness soon, you might want to head out not in?“

“I got to check something out of the library, I’ll only be a minute.“ She waved off his warning and tried to push past him. “And like you say, the window of opportunity is closing, so, you should probably leave this place yourselves…“

“And you can’t find your book any other place?“ Donna asked dumbfounded.

“One of a kind, sorry, got to run.“ The blonde replied with a grin pushing past him.

“Alright, have a nice day as well.“ The Doctor let her pass.

“Thanks!“ She grinned and sprinted off.

“Doctor, you're not just gonna let her go, are you?“ Donna asked thoroughly confused watching her leave.

“Not a chance. Just giving her a head start.“ The Doctor winked and they headed after her, careful not to be spotted. They took cover behind some tables in the main area as the blonde headed straight for a computer terminal.

“That was close, stupid box, always with the timing…“  She was mumbling to herself. “Couldn’t have hung on two minutes…“ Without further ado, she started pulling some sort of electrical equipment from the pockets of her impressive coat. There were a lot of parts to it and Donna couldn’t believe it all somehow fit into her pockets. They watched her as she hooked up the equipment to the computer.

“What is she doing?“ Donna whispered to the Doctor who shrugged.

“I’m more concerned with who she is… whatever she is doing, that’s complicated tech…“ He mused, watching in fascination as she continued her work.

“Ouch… alright then.“ The blonde pulled her hands away as she seemed to have gotten an electric shock. She stood and engaged the computer terminal. “CAL, hi, sorry, I know, bit confusing, different face.“ She started talking to the computer and the Doctor and Donna exchanged concerned looks. How did she know about CAL? What she was saying was making very little sense to them without the second half of the conversation. They couldn’t make out what CAL responded. “Just popping in to get what’s mine, alright? Don’t freak out, it’s really me. Can you put her on?“ There was a moment of silence. Neither Donna nor the Doctor said anything but there were only very few people she should be looking to talk to on that computer. This was about to get even more investing than the whole experience had been already. “Hello Sweetie. Surprise! This is gonna be great, you’re gonna love this, had Dorium track it down for me, took a while but here we are.“ The woman sounded thoroughly excited. “Get you coat, honey, let’s see if it works.“ She took a step backwards and pulled something from her coat pocket, pointing it at the computer. Sparks flew and the mechanism engaged.

“Can’t have come cheap, that.“

“Dorium Maldovar is known drive a hard bargain, she must be a hacker or criminal of some kind to have those kinds of ties.“ The Doctor mused, trying to make sense of what they were picking up.

“Perhaps Dorium just owes her a favour…“

“Dorium doesn’t do favours.“ He huffed. It was a ridiculous notion.

“He will.“

“Doctor.“ Donna touched her hand to his arm.

“Shush, Donna, I don’t want to lose the element of surprise.“ He kept his eyes firmly on the woman in the middle of the room who was looking around now, apparently waiting to see if whatever she had tried to do had worked.

“Doctor.“ Donna repeated.

“How much longer until he notices, you think?“

“Doctor?!“ Donna grabbed the Doctor by the shoulder and pulled him around.

“Donna, what?!“ He growled but stopped dead in his tacks when he found River Song standing behind them. He had been having a conversation with her without even realising it. She was dressed in a white flowing dress, a stark contrast to the environmental suit he’d only seen her in, and a grinned spread across her beautiful features.

“Hello, Sweetie.“ She chuckled.

“Oh my God, River, what, how…“ The Doctor couldn’t find words.

“Well, Sweetie, what do you think?“ River grinned at the Doctor.

“Of what?“ He was still in shock. He had watched her die only hours ago, he had managed to somehow, miraculously save her consciousness and now suddenly she was here again? “How did you get out of the computer? What did she do?“

“Some sort of teleport I believe, but like a really clever 3D printer, materialise the body, download the consciousness, boom, brand new wife.“ River explained, enjoying the dumbfound expression on both their faces.

“River!!“ The blonde had finally spotted her and River waved to her.

“Speaking of wife…“ River smirked and the Doctor exclaimed:

“Wife?! I thought you and me, we…“ He looked around to the woman heading straight for them, feeling a wave of jealousy. He knew he’d technically only met River today but he knew how important she would become to him.

“We are.“ River chuckled giving his an amused smirk: “But you know, you can’t talk, all I’m gonna say is: Elizabeth I… so…“ She couldn’t carry on as the blonde rushed around the counter and threw herself at River who pulled her close and twirled her around.

“River.“ The mystery woman took her face in her hands, tears welling up in her eyes, clearly overcome with emotion.

“Hello, Sweetie.“ River smiled the softest of smiles and leaned in to kiss her.

“Sooo… how do you feel about this?“ Donna looked to the Doctor, feeling like they were intruding on a private moment. “You think we should go, or…“ She could tell from the annoyed expression on the Doctor’s face, however, that he had no intention of just leaving it be. He pulled himself up to full height and cleared his throat.

“Okay, so thank you for saving my future…“

“Wife.“ River helpfully supplied the word as they stopped kissing and just held each other close.

“Whatever she is. But who are you?“ He jabbed his finger at the blonde.

“You haven’t figured it out yet?“ The woman let go of River, seemingly reluctantly, and turned to face him. She kept her hand intertwined with River’s.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy River isn’t dead but my future self spent a lot of time thinking about how to save her and then you just waltz in here having to do one better?“ The Doctor crossed his arms in front of his chest.

“Well, sadly, you’ll not remember that I came here.“ The woman replied.  

“What?“ Donna was utterly confused now.

“Why not?“ The Doctor demanded to know, unsure whether or not that was supposed to be a threat.

“God, you’re slow. Did I give you a concussion when I knocked you out?“ River raised her eyebrows playfully.

“Maybe it’s cause of the hair spray…“ The blonde mused.

“I don’t use…“ The Doctor was going to protest but River had already changed directions:

“Don’t tell me you’re not using hairspray now.“ She ran her hand through the other woman’s blonde bob.

“Naturally falls like that, thank you very much.“ She huffed in response. “Regeneration is a lottery as you should know by now.“

“Are you a timelord?!“ The Doctor exclaimed, not sure how to interpret the statement.

“Yes.“ The blonde replied in amusement.  

“But I thought I was the last…“ The Doctor stared back at her in shock.

“Yes, which makes me…“

“You can’t be.“ He shook his head.

“Yes I am the…“ The blonde started but the didn’t allow her to finish.

“You can’t be the Master, he…“

“So close.“ The mystery woman sighed hanging her head theatrically.

“It’s like watching one of those dumb and dumber movies, isn’t it.“ River chuckled to Donna who had long given up trying to follow.

“Hang on!“ The Doctor exclaimed as the penny dropped.

“Yes, crossing time streams, you won’t remember this because you are crossing your own time stream right now! I am you.“ The blonde Doctor sighed, she couldn’t believe she had to spell it out for him like that.

“Pretty boy and pretty girl.“ Donna found herself chuckling almost involuntarily.

“Aren’t they?“ River agreed with a smirk. “The mind races.“

“River. Shut up!“ The Doctor chanted in unison.

“But you’re short!“ The younger Doctor groaned in annoyance as he looked her up and down.

“I am actually rather average height, as it happens! Why does everyone call me small?!“ The older Doctor huffed. “Did I really use to be so obsessed with my height?!“

“Size isn’t everything, darling.“ River pipped up.

“Still not ginger then.“ The younger Doctor carried on.

“None of the next four, no.“ She replied with a shrug.  

“Four more regenerations and only now did you work out how to save her?“ He exclaimed looking to River.

“I actually gave her the screwdriver last time we met, thank you very much. One step at a time.“ The older Doctor huffed and turned to her wife: “I booked that suite on Darillium again, by the way, for a few nights, just, you know, if you haven’t got any other plans.“

“Well, this is going to be a whole new experience.“ River smirked looking her up and down. This was the first she was seeing of her spouse’s most recent regeneration and she was beyond intrigued.

“Like it?“ The blonde Doctor asked with a little smirk and River grinned:

“Love it.“

“I don’t like her. Do you like her?“ The younger Doctor turned to Donna, just as his future self pulled their wife in for another kiss.

“Are you jealous of yourself?“ Donna teased and he gave her a playful shove.

“So you’re really him? Just older?“ Donna turned to the future Doctor, still struggling to believe that they were the same person. She knew what regeneration meant but it wasn’t like she’d ever seen the result of one.

“Different face, same dumbass.“ The Doctor retorted with a grin.

“Well done for saving her, Doctor.“ Donna smiled as they looked to River who said her goodbyes to the younger Doctor at present. “She really needed you, this version of you.“ Donna thought back to how devastated River had been at the total lack of recognition on the Doctor’s part. She had missed her Doctor so very much.

“I know. I remember.“ The Doctor gave a sad sort of smile as she thought back to when she had first met River, remembering the pain and sorrow in her eyes. “Donna, I can’t know, you know. You can’t tell me, else I might not get here, details my change and a paradox will be created if I know River lived.“ The Doctor turned to her to explain and Donna nodded slowly, they had mentioned it on the way back to the TARDIS already. This Doctor’s TARDIS was parked right behind their’s where they hadn’t been able to spot it as they got out. “Just be there for him. He’s already struggling, even if he doesn’t show it, even if he doesn’t know her yet, he still knows what and who he’s lost.“ The Doctor tried her best to explain to her what was going on in her younger self’s head.

“How long as it been for you? Since she died. How long have had to carry that with you?“ Donna asked taking her hand comfortingly.

“Some questions are better left unanswered.“ The Doctor shook her head and smiled. “It was good to see you, Donna.“ She pulled her into a hug.

“It was good to meet you, this version of you.“ Donna smiled and let her go, just as River and the other Doctor joined them.

“Well done, Doctor.“ The younger Doctor smiled and extended his hand to her.

“You too, Doctor.“ The blonde smile in return and shook his hand.

“You sure you don’t want to come in for a cup of tea, or…“ River suggested pointing to the TARDIS:

“Down, girl.“ The older Doctor smirked and took her hand in hers.

“You’ll be seeing me again soon, Doctor.“ River smiled at the younger Doctor who grinned:

“I look forward to it.“

“No telling.“ The older Doctor reminded Donna who nodded and smiled:

“My lips are sealed.“

“Now about that suite.“ River smirked at her wife as they turned to their TARDIS.

“Think the TARDIS bedroom will do for now, don’t you?“ The Doctor chuckled as she unlocked the door.

“Bedroom, kitchen, console room, wardrobe hall…“ River smirked and pulled her inside.

“Good for you, Doctor, so you’re not an eternal virgin then.“ Donna teased pulling her Doctor along to their TARDIS before he could get any more jealous.

all of your posts on jacob are super valid. I was wondering if you had any good fic recommendations? I'm especially privy to fix-it fics or do-over fics

hey :) thanks! i should preface this list by admitting that a lot of the jacob/bella fics i have read and loved were BEFORE i had an ao3 account, so i had no way of keeping track of them. alas, i have never been able to find some of the best ones i remember. also i can be hella picky with my fics, especially for this pairing because 75% of them are 1) ooc to the extreme, 2) edward-bashing, or 3) written by a twelve year old. ALSO a lot of these are bella-centric, which can be good, but it’s really difficult to find any works with a well-written jacob (which is uhhhh my intention). the following is a list of well-rated fics i have read and enjoyed:

The Definition of Want by audreyii_fic (56k, E) is a must-read for all fans of Jacob/Bella. It’s the most popular of the fics on this list, and for good reason: it’s well-written, super smutty, and sweet. Warning for graphic sex (but we’re all adults here) (i hope). The author has several other drabbles & shorts of equal relevance.

Sway, Wolf Voodoo, and Tea by AvaJune (17k, E) is also a good one. Premise: Edward is unconsciously mind-washing Bella via his magic vampire powers. A lil dub-con of forcing Bella to drink magic tea, which made me go “mmm??” but still a good story.

Whether the Weather Be Grey by runningsissors (13k, T) is a lil angsty piece about Bella realizing Edward isn’t what she wants. She comes home and runs into Jake. Really well-written. This author has a few other excellent shorts (I recommend Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day and We’ll Dress You Up Like You’re Good and New).

ok now here are a lot that i have not read, but i scoured the web and they’re all completed with good reviews (let me know if you read any of these and enjoy them, cause then i will too lol):

Return to Sender by grrlinterrupted (35k, E): “Jake fell in love with his friend Bella the summer he was thirteen. Five years later, she's back, and ready for far more than friendship, but each is waiting for the other to make the first move. No monsters, no magic, just fluff.”

Better Now by orphan_account (sad days, I hate orphan accounts) (101k, E) I’m pretty sure this is a famous one? I’ve never read it, oh well. “Charlie got Bella the professional help she needed when Edward took off. Now Edward's back - and she's different. AU New Moon - after Volterra - and Eclipse. Mostly in-character, Edward's not villainized.”

Over the Moon by Flaming Maple (76k, M): “Almost home, and almost about to discover Alice, Bella looks up, instead of away. Her future unfolds in a remarkably different way—this time, with Jacob. The vampires, however, whose paths have crossed hers before, are not done with her yet. Bella’s first year at college is more challenging than she ever expected.” Warning: Major Character Death (don’t worry, it’s not Jacob or Bella)

Living/Breathing by sadbrowngirlpoetry (51k, T): “Bella asks Jacob to leave Forks with her — he accepts. Only the web of the supernatural she has caught herself into is not easy to escape. A re-write of New Moon, beginning on page 286 in Chapter 12: "Intruder".”

Daybreak by VivaJayne (109k, M): “I risked a quick glance at Jacob's face. His eyes were boring into mine, indecision and longing written on his face. How could you?”

The Natural Path by MarieCarro (17k, T): “Bella hesitates at the cliff just before she's about to jump when her hallucinatory Edward tells her to move on. He tells her to be happy and she wonders what he means with that. Just then, Jake appears, looking scared when he sees Bella stand by the edge. Bella wonders if she's supposed to move on and be happy with Jake.”

Full Moon by lucy quinn fabray (21k, T): “A New Moon rewrite from Jacob's POV. Edward leaves Bella and she spirals into a deep depression. Jacob offers her happiness and undying loyalty. But things get complicated shortly thereafter...”

Youth Knows No Pain by HalcyonSeasons (6k, T, but it’s a trilogy so it adds up to 25k): “Bella and Jacob drive off together on spring break. No parents, no Sam Uley, nothing. Will their friendship survive? Will it grow stronger? Here is my take on a particular scene in New Moon. "Maybe we should just get out of here. Just leave. Just you and me. We can get away from Sam and everything, even it's just for a little while."”

this is by no means a comprehensive list, or even a good one. i wish i’d read more fanfic in this fandom. also, now that i’m thinking about it, the lack of good jacob fic is making me want to frickin write!

the other day a friend of mine asked me what Naruto was about and i completely blanked bc how was i supposed to explain that on the surface it’s about an orphaned fox boy who dreams about becoming Hokage of his village, when in reality it’s about two boys, ostracized by their fascist state, falling in love with each other as they both shared and understood the loneliness that consumed their souls? how was i supposed to explain that it’s the greatest love story ever told?
