I'm an American who has no exposure to french really so I can't judge your accent but I really want to learn French! Is it worth it/a fun language?

Is it worth it.. for me it turned out to be more useful than most because I'm a classical vocalist who sings in French and it opens up possibilities of a career in Europe. For most Americans I would say it is way more useful to know Spanish as a 2nd language. Even for me since I live in the LA area it would be way more useful to me than French. Is it fun? I had a very fun French teacher who made learning French fun but ymmv. I don't have a lot of opportunities to speak it. My French still is only passable though so ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

What's in a name? A (very) simple guide to find your Rook's name.

I’ve seen some people are wondering how some of us already have named Rooks, others have no idea how to get names or which names could be good, and since i kinda overdid it and have 11 Rooks already planned and named i thought i’d share some of my process and drop some ideas. This works for me, but maybe it can help others find their Rook’s name(s).

Keep in mind these are also fantasy names, they don’t have to make sense or have a specific meaning, you can literally make them up. I also take into consideration known naming conventions, for example in Elven we have Solas and Abelas’ names, with specific meanings (Pride, Sorrow) and judging by what Solas tells Abelas, it’d seem ancient elvhen would change their names according to roles or events in their life. Similarly in the Qun, we know their names aren’t names as we understand them but simply descriptors of the role that is assigned to them within the Qun.

It’s probably easier when it comes to human nations in Thedas: Orlesians are likely to have French names, Fereldans to have anglo names, Antivans to have Spanish and Italian names. Tevinter is a bit trickier because it’s based on the Roman empire and Latin is a pretty dead language, but they sure liked to make records so we have names there too.

Elvhen names:

I literally opened a tab with the Elven language DA wiki page and read everything -for the bazillionth time tbh-; DA elven language is a cipher, not a conlang, so feel free to make things up because we don’t have the full cipher -i’m not even sure BW does- .

For Elven names i check the wiki for words that i like the sound of, the meaning of, ideally both. If i feel something is “missing” i may add a letter or combine different words into a new one.

Here are some examples:

Athima, from athim, humility

Atisha, from Atish'an, atisha is peace

Sethena, from Sethen'a or Setheneran, land of waking dreams or where the veil is thin, aka the Fade.

Revaren, from Revas, freedom, and Renan, voice.

Alasan, from alas, earth/dirt, and suffix an, place.

Sulahni, from sulahn, sing.

Samahli, from samahl, laughter.

Vardanehn, lit. Our little joy.

Mir'as, Banal'ras is shadows, implying ras refers to light, Mir is mine. Lit. "my light".

Qunlat names:

Same process as elven, but trying to modify as less as possible, keeping in mind the Qunari are very rigid in their ways and can be very literal as well.

Anaan, victory

Asaarash, rivaini horsebreed used by the antaam.

Kaaras, navigator.

Asaara-kaaras, wind navigator, wind rider.

Saar, dangerous. Saar-asaara, dangerous wind. Saar-meraad, dangerous tide.

Sata-kasi, mauler.

Vattic-kos, vat is fire, tic is cold and kos refers to nature damage, all three words are in reference to damage done with a mage staff. So Vattic-kos could be elemental damage.

Shokra, shok is struggle or war, shokrakar is rebel.

Antivan names:

These were way easier as i’m Latina of Spanish and Italian descent which in this case feels a bit like cheating. I think any Spanish and Italian name could work, these are just some i like.

I’m leaving out the numerals like Primo, Segundo, Quintus, Octavio... check Cesars' names, that could work too. I think you could just search the scientific name of any fauna (hello House Pavus) or flora and pick whatever sounds nice too. Also we recently got a new Magister’s name in the Dragon Age: Vows & Vengeance trailer, Magister Andante. Y’know what “Andante” means? Walking. Magister Walking. Fear nothing and go wild with these names, seriously.

You could also check other cultures and native names, respectfully of course. Here are some guaraní and mapuche names i like, i didn’t modify these at all.

Kerana, guaraní “goddess of sleep”, or sleepy one.

Karai, guaraní, “respectable man”.

Luriel, guaraní, “lord of the wind”.

Amaru, guaraní, “rain”.

Anahí, guaraní, from a legend, the name of a young woman burned at the stake by the conquistadors, after which she is transformed into the flowering tree.

Newén, mapuche, "strength"

Nahuel, mapuche, “jaguar”

Ayelén, mapuche, “laughing”.

Tahiel, mapuche, “hombre libre”

For Dwarven names, i am deeply sorry i haven't decided on a Dwarf Rook yet so i haven't done my dwarven research, but the same process applies: check the canon dwarf names we got so far, if the lore says anything about dwarven naming conventions, if they're a commoner or noble, if there are caste-specific names too, and so on. And if you want to name your dwarf Rook Bob, that's fine too! ( if DUNE can have Paul and Jessica, why couldn't we have a dwarf named Bob?? like i said, go wild, name freely, be happy)

I understand some people don't want to or aren't sure about naming their Rooks until we learn what the different canon surnames will be, and i totally get that, i felt the same way. But i couldn't resist until we got that info so i overdid it, particularly with my Tevinter-Nevarran mage whose name i picked clearly inspired by Cassandra's full name, only for me to end up calling her by the first of her five names that i kinda struggle to remember. So far we've only seen one canon surname, "Thorne", and since surnames are defined by factions, Thorne seems to be the Grey Wardens' canon surname. The elf Grey Warden champion seen in the recent high-level combat gameplay is named Esha Thorne.

I think maybe surnames should depend on what they're now calling lineage (elven, qunari, human, dwarf) rather than on factions, or they could have offered options, one per lineage and one per faction, and let us decide which one to keep. An elf named Thorne sounds a bit odd to me, even if they're a Grey Warden. Will any of my chosen names match the canon surnames? Probably not, but at least i had fun while naming them. My only GW for now is Favian and Favian Thorne doesn't sound bad.

Anyway, I hope this helps those who are a bit lost to find names that works for you and your Rooks, have fun!

I love reading.

I frequently select novels which are just So Long it takes me weeks to months to finish them. Making speed reading through a couple a week (my dream) unobtainable. I mean, I like reading nonfiction too, and maybe because of old college cramming skills I can read 2-4 400 page nonfiction books a week if Im okay with feeling tired all week.

Which, I have some niche recs if you're into non fiction: Stalking the Wild Pendulum by Bentov, When the Body Says No by Gabor Mate, Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn, The Reality of ESP by Russel Targ if youre into remote viewing history, Psychic Discoveries beyond the Iron Curtain by Ostrander and Schroeder on archive.org if youre into parapsychology and looking for other names to look into further since tbh this book is more journalism-entertainment than nonfiction reference also this books fairly old now, Immortal Remains - from a philosophy angle it was okay but frustrating to me except i got some good sources for further reading mentoned... but I prefer the UVA youtube lectures and the research they do since i just tend to prefer reading collected information myself, The Emotion Code - not necessarily informational in a verified sense but if youve ever considered paying money for an emotion code practitioner i liked the book cause i could just Learn the method and try it myself... free... and test and decide for myself regardless of if ifs placebo if its actually helpful to me or not, The Ancient Science and Art of Pranic Healing - this book doesnt have studies sourced as its more about teach The technique but i like that it lists sources for further reading - and its another case of "well i can just learn, test it on myself, see if its helpful or not" also im an absolute nerd about older books and the considerations that went into X book at Their time compared to now... if you ever saw my language learning textbooks collection from 1800s books to 2023 books youd know.

Speaking of here are some Fascinating Language Learning books. If youre curious about the Nature Method as in learn a language IN the lamguage by comprehensible context I recommend Ayan Academy playlists on youtube and the books: English by the Nature Method, Lingua Latina, La Francais Par Le Methode Nature, L'Italiano Secondo il Metodo Natura, Poco a Poco. (I also have many a youtube channel lessons recommendation for this learning method as I prefer it). For textbooks to learn primarily with graded reading materials Ive got: Beginning Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, and Advanced Chinese by John DeFrancis, Spanish for beginners by Charles Duff, French for Beginners Charles Duff, A Japanese Reader: Graded Lessons for Mastering the Written Language by Roy Miller (steep learning curve but decent preparation for reading actual novels and news which is great because i find a lot of japanese textbooks hover at beginner-intermediate but dont bridge all the way to necessary skills to understand complex texts). Cool books: Chinese Self Taught by The Natural Method by John Darroch (old af and some information is outdated and the pinyin system Hurts so focus on actual hanzi - but the grammar explanations are the easiest ive read and enjoyed reading), Japanese in 30 Hours (its basic japanese but it explains basic grammar understandably and helps you get a basic mental framework for the language making further study, i felt, much easier to adjust to, and its a short quick Study Up Basics book - id especially recommend it to people planning to learn using immersion/comprehensible input asap as it will give them a little bit of a skeleton to lean on), japaneseaudiolessons.com is an interesting introduction to audio flashcard lessons (fun fact glossika is just an expensive version of audio flashcard study which are just... audio in target language then a language you understand so you comprehend the sentence meaning and can learn new words/grammar from it by listening) and the site has a free grammar book to accompany it AND the site makers made kanji teaching books that come the closest to providing prewritten mnemonics for meaning AND pronunciation of japanese kanji in book study form. Something i appreciate since heisig books make you Make Up Your Own mnemonics so i find his books useless, and many japanese kanji teaching books that use mnemonics focus on meaning and skip teaching pronunciations since its harder to include multiple pronunciations in a mnemonic. For Chinese hanzi study, my favorite book is Tuttle's Learning Chinese Characters: (HSK Levels 1-3) A Revolutionary New Way to Learn the 800 Most Basic Chinese Characters, the book provides mnemonic stories for pronunciation including tone, and meaning, and example words. Its the backbone of how i learned the first few hundred hanzi and Learned How to personally remember more which made continuing to learn hanzi much easier. Since that Hanzi book, ive been desperate for a similarly written book for japanese kanji and... japaneseaudiolessons.com has the most similar kind of kanji books, but theirs is a drier and therefore harder read.

Anyway wow I got lost ToT back to my older point ayy. I have no time to read these fucking long ass fiction books I keep wanting to read ;-; my focus can resolve to read a nonfiction book in a frantic 6 hours of Research Mode then burn out and lose focus until im up for the next book. But i pick these long ass fiction books, and oddly i seem to read fiction slower so maybe im like savoring it idk. But i took like 2 months to finish Silent Reading by priest so. Yeah i WISH i was getring through these novels a touch faster ;-; i have so many i wanna read. Perplexingly i also read manga super slow, so i guess any fiction i slow down and savor or something

Books im trying desperately to read, to finish, or to get to after finishing my current books: Observations by janon (a fanfic but a great one and im only 30% done after 1 week intensively reading), kamikaze girls (1/3 done then i forgot the book so its been a few months), Old Fashion Cupcake (1/4 thru and the single volume is LONG), Devilman (1/8 through maybe), Sudden Silence (this book is like 200 pages frankly i have no idea why i didnt manage to finish it in a few days), Game of Thrones book 1 (in my defense its an audiobook so im only in like chapter 3 theres a cool youtube guy who does different voices and music for the chapters), The Expanse (i just started), The Dark Forest (book 2 of three body problem series im half done then i forgot it), In The Dark book 1 (1/3 done and its just... not quite getting my attention as well as other stuff i recently read), Little Mushroom (likely to start more solidly once i finish Observations), 2ha (i got volume 4 babey!!), Can Ci Pin (id like to restart and read in earnest im in a sci fi mood lately so i think ill get obsessed with this once i start), Breaking Through the Clouds (my instincts tell me this is most likely the only crime mystery novel thats going to manage to catch my attention after Silent Reading by priest impressed me so damn much its like in my top 5 books i ever read now), discworld (im just reading little snippets as i have time), Final Girl Support Group (1/4 done then i got busy and forgot it - this is by Grady Hendrix and so far ive loved everything they write, I highly recommend My Best Friends Exorcism it was great), Guardian (i have the english translation but im... eternally chugging away at the chinese and at the end of the First Arc which ive reread in chinese like 4 times now i need to just GET PAST THAT PART TO NEW PARTS and i dont really wanna read the english translation until ive read the original so i can compare), so many fucking novels by priest in my to read list... sha po lang, jinse, huai dao, guomen, lord seventh, faraway wanderers, the blue seal, tai sui, liu yao, lhjc, and again Can Ci Pin... then I have Peach Blossom Debt and Imperial Uncle, and Golden Stage on the to read list too... and Thousand Autumns, Peerless. And Wu Chang Jie, and Nightfall (evernight). Oh I also started reading Vampire Hunter D omnibus and that fucker is like 800 pages. Frankly most books i buy are 400-1200 pages. Usually 600 at minimum. Oh i also started reading One Piece manga, got to Sanji's introduction arc, then like most things... i forgot i was reading it and havent picked it back up for weeks. Basically... i try to get through a book but if it takes me more than 3 days (nonfiction usually takes me 1-2 days) then i risk forgetting i was reading it, forgetting for months, picking it back up and having to start over cause i forgot it for too long -.-;

Oh this is so sweet, but also so difficult!! I'm always so hard on myself, I'm one of those people who's like "everyone's doing great, except me, I'm such a failure". It's something I'm trying not to do but it's hard, but things like this definitely help so thank you for sending this! :)

I really like how creative I am. I'm constantly thinking up OC stories. I'm not actually writing them, details, but I'm thinking of them. I also think I'm pretty good at making fanvideos and gifs and all that. Being creative like that is something I really enjoy and I wish I could spend more time on it.

I really like the colour of my eyes? Is that weird? They're a sort of combination of blue and grey but lately I feel like there's a slight hint of green in them as well? Very vaguely compared to the other two colours but there's something there idk. Either way, eye colour, cool!

I think I'm pretty good at making a room cozy? Like, my bedroom is my favourite place! There are a bunch of plants, I have my bookshelves and piles of books that don't fit my bookshelves, pillows, funkos, it's all in pale colours but the decorations really make it cozy and I wish I had more time to enjoy it.

I'm really good... At wrapping gifts! I know this sounds super random but at my previous job was a store where many people came to buy gifts (it was a kitchen/ decoration/ food/ plants/ garden/... store in case anyone's curious) and we had to wrap so many gifts! At first it was a real pain but over the years I really started to enjoy it. Easy shapes like books and such, I can wrap in under a minute, blindly (believe me, I did the test at home). When I'm wrapping gifts for family or friends, though, I'm going extra! I'm talking kraft paper, dried flowers, wax seals, washi tape, twine,... I have a whole aesthetic going on! I also have an entire box with decorations and it's getting too much tbh I need to get rid of some things...

I'm pretty good at languages. I studied a total of 5 languages: Dutch (my mother tongue), French, English, German and Spanish (6 if you count Latin during secondary school). Truth be told, my German and Spanish aren't that great anymore because I hardly use them, but I was pretty decent during my school days. English is my best foreign language, followed by French. I was like "the language person" at my previous job: they would literally call me over when a person spoke French because the rest of my collagues were horrible at it! One time a co-worker even called me over when we had customers from South-America who only spoke Spanish. She didn't even know I spoke a bit of Spanish, she just called me and assumed I would know what to do! I didn't say much, but I did understand what the customers were saying and I really think they were happy to be helped by someone who spoke even a little bit of their native language!

it’s easier for him to teach for majors because the students can follow his ramblings better

he teaches upper level math courses and usually only has like three students in those classes

he’ll sit up on his desk and debate with the students for the entire hour about the riemann hypothesis

he gets excited because the students are just as enthusiastic as he is

he is two extremes

he either shows up to his classroom like a half hour early and writes out all his notes on the board so that when the students come in, he can go right into lecture

or he’ll show up two minutes before class starts with his hair disheveled, his tie undone and his expression glazed over and just be like “listen up i woke up late and just downed an entire pot of coffee i brewed with several cans of monster energy—i don’t exist on this dimension anymore”

on those days, he lets his students work on other projects for other classes because he knows it’s not fair to ask his students to focus if he’s not

he helps them with their homework

penelope brings him lunch sometimes to make sure he’s eating

he appreciates it a lot because between lesson plans and grading, he sometimes forgets to eat

once she’s built a good rapport with her students (and vise versa), she becomes more chill

she’ll sit on the edge of her desk and encourage discussion rather than following a book or a set plan

(she finds it’s more interesting that way anyway)

sometimes her students will show up ten minutes before class starts just to talk with her once they’re comfortable with her

some kids in the psych major course playfully call her “mom” because she always asks them how they’re doing and about their week

from like 1940s to present

he refuses to follow most western history books bc they’re not accurate like at all

in his first year of teaching, the dean of his department made him use a book and he hated every second of it

how accurate could the information be if they portray king tut as a white guy???

he graduated under one of the best historians in the country

he also traveled a lot after he graduated and met a lot of people that had first hand experience with major historical events

that’s really what he bases his teachings off of—first hand experiences and encounters

every two weeks or so, he’ll invite in guest speakers to his classes to talk about what they went through (depending on his lesson plans)

that’s how he likes to teach and learn (bc he always loves to learn new things!!)

this is random, but also he is the type of professor to randomly box jump up onto a desk

he also sits in chairs backwards and has a more laid back style to teaching

his exams are based on what the students can learn from history rather than the information itself

he’s always dressed super casual!!

he gets along with all the students

he’ll talk to the athletes about their games but sound just as enthusiastic and genuine talking with students who are majors in fine arts about their projects

So about me: I'm a 20+ lil' chubby female (1m60/ 5,2 feets) with brown hair and brown eyes. I'm French (yes I'm the French anonie) but I can understand English and a bit of Spanish and Italian. I'm good with writing in English and very bad at vocal. I can be shy at first but I like to talk. I'm a very friendly introvert. I'm between neutral good and chaotic good. I think you would be a great match since both of you are interested in art, and overall I think you would fit personality-wise. I see Joseph as a person who wouldn't mind your occasional quietness. Joseph is an extrovert, but I see him as a very understanding person towards introverts and shy people. He would love to listen to you ramble about your interests, but if you decided that you need some time, he would understand that too. He would either start talking about something relating to what you just told him, or if you needed some time in absolute quietness, he would simply get busy doing his own thing. Sitting in silence is not awkward for him, so he would love to spend time with you just in the same room without the need to talk. You know something as maybe both of you reading in silence or maybe, doing your own works of art?

Though there would be one big minus. Joseph would be terrified whenever you would faint or get sick, knowing his trauma with losing his brother to a sickness. You would have to calm him down that you are just like this, and it doesn't mean he will lose you! Despite that, he would literally try anything to cure you whenever you got sick. Simple cold? Joseph is in the kitchen making different soups that are supposed to help, as well as asking Emily for advice. He might be a little overbearing in that aspect, but he is just worried, and we can't really blame him for that.

Oh, and also, Joseph is a really touchy person, and he shows his love most of the time by physical affection, so say bye to being touch starved.

some comprehensible input links

language learning forums can be so toxic sometimes...

so many people love to push that “one method” is phenomenal and works when others just WON’T, meanwhile another will say the opposite. And then its like... where is the room to acknowledge maybe parts of each method have merit for different individuals, since they might help or click in different ways.

just today i saw someone arguing about stephen krashen’s language theories and how they’re all disproven bullshit that are completely unusable. I don’t know a huge amount about his theories. But I do know the emphasis he brought up on “providing students comprehensible input and lessons to learn from” is a concept that also is in stuff like the modern Teach Languages Through Storytelling lessons and Comprehensible Input Lessons. Which if you’ve ever used them? They’re Amazing. They are lessons where teachers purposefully use the target language as much as possible, and use visuals to help make what they say as comprehensible as possible to students so they can learn. This is how when I volunteered, we were supposed to tutor ESL speakers - because we could not reliably teach with english translation since their english levels varied, and we did not have speakers of every learners native language present to help teach them. Our program coordinator showed an example of how to do it by teaching us some Thai, his native language, in this method. And it was extremely easy to follow and understand. Textbooks/grammar guides/flashcards certainly will help speed up the process - aka allow students to use Graded Reader books, learner podcasts, then target language native materials like shows and novels to learn quicker. But lessons in the target language as soon as possible, emphazising getting students to comprehend, is valuable. Just as its valuable later on when students can handle more complex lessons in the target language.

I just found the Learn Korean in Korean channel a few weeks ago, notable in that he also teaches hangul before the other lessons. I think he maybe uses too few pictures to make it as easy on students. But having said that, I know zero korean whatsoever and am watching his Lesson 1 and finding it completely easy to follow. So I’d say yes his teaching style probably falls under “engage student in the target language and make it comprehensible so they can learn it.” I’m really impressed with his channel tbh because it teaches totally in Korean so any language learner from any native language could use it.

Just found Japanese Immersion with Asami today while looking up “japanese comprehensible input” and its an amazing example of how these kinds of lessons work. In a classroom setting (or with a tutor), generally the idea is to provide learners with lots of comprehensible input of the language they’re learning and perhaps some help to keep things comprehensible (in a classroom that would be word definitions on the board maybe for reference, or in these examples subtitles to aid learners for reference - although first priority a teacher is aiming to use pictures/gestures/visuals to make as much as possible comprehensible).

Examples of textbooks that teach through comprehensible input (these were made before Krashen, so i merely bring up Krashen because Today’s Language Forum Arguement was ‘all krashen’s ideas are bullshit ALL of them even comprehensible input ideas so you shouldn’t even bother using even a little of something related to his ideas):

my only point here is just. i hate seeing valuable learning methods completely thrown away, just because someone’s decided to equate one person’s specific method as bad - to decide every single thing related to it must be useless. In this particular case - before Krashen was old enough to have any theories, Arthur Jensen was making some of those books listed above! (Back then it was called ‘the nature method’ - although plenty of books using the term ‘the nature method’ do not teach as comprehensibly as what I’ve listed above, there’s definitely a range from ‘these are just vocab lists’ to ‘these are actually slowly teaching me new words in context’ lol). and all those youtube channels for comprehensible input? There are learners who do find them useful! I’ve found them useful!

oh man just today... sometimes people will be like “you MUST use flashcards to learn a language” and hello no you absolutely don’t have to i never did with French. Some people say “you MUST use textbooks” and yet there’s examples of people who did fine without them, vice versa people say “you must NOT use textbooks if you want to sound natural’ or whatever which? Me using grammar guides has always been immensely useful for me personally - though again some people found success with Much more textbook use, and with none. So can we please accept different methods work for different people?! And beyond that - maybe some Pieces of methods are useful to someone EVEN if the ‘whole thing’ isn’t. 

Mass Immersion Method/Refold - its not ‘all’ for me. I’m never ever going to sentence mine. I rarely use flashcards and I never plant to MAKE any myself lol. Have I still found some useful pieces of Refold that have benefited me? YES I have. (Notably the parts about ‘comprehensible input’ since we’re on the topic). What I took from what little i have heard from Krashen - in particular a lecture he gave on improving reading ability in students - is reading for pleasure, exposing yourself to a lot of material even if its not perfectly at your level, will help you improve. Students who learned word lists, and students encouraged to extensively read, both made vocabulary and reading level improvements. Which - we’ve been in elementary school and had ‘free reading time’ to help us learn to read better! By reading something we liked for a period of time! Besides just the books assigned in class the teacher had us do vocab lists for! Well, in my french studies I very much saw that apply to my own second language learning too - sometimes I looked up words as I read, and learned words that way. Sometimes I simply read french for pleasure and just guessed at unknown words I Could guess at and moved past others - and also improved my reading ability and picked up some new words. Both ways helped my french improve, my reading improve, my vocab improve. And so that is what I took from it - that there is some merit in engaging with something you can understand Somewhat at least. That if you have some comprehension of a material, you may be able to learn Some More from it whether you just learn from context OR conciously look up everything unfamiliar. (And I do think looking things up speeds up the process sometimes). My point though is like... we’re really gonna throw out some good pieces because we don’t like one person who’s managed to touch on them? When so many before and after, their own levels of correct and useless parts, have found some usefulness in some parts?

I just do not get language forum drama lol... the issue is. These people were arguing because they find krashen ‘useless’ then all comprehensible input study is ‘useless’. Ok then. But pushing to all learners to use only a textbook, and avoid engaging with actual language (even when it may be comprehensible and therefore useful to them like the links above, for some learners), then they may slow their progress if it doesn’t suit them well. And it always depends on the individual, everyone’s a bit different.

Very much my ideal romance situation tbh. Anyways enjoy, the next part is partly written but no promises on when it'll be up. As always, no use of Y/N and please do lmk what you think! :)

The first time you kissed him, you could taste the champagne he’d had earlier that night. Not enough to get drunk, or even really buzzed, but enough to leave his lips and tongue flavorful under your own.

His strong hand was wrapped around your waist, keeping you close, fingers steady over the thin fabric of your dress. Javi held you like this often - from lunches on your parents’ boat to strolling casually through the piazza, he had definitely adopted the Italian tendency to show public affection through touch. All your male friends here do it, but with him it’s different.

Javi is so very different.

Tonight he looks even more like a dashing prince than usual. His dark hair is perfectly messy and his white shirt is unbuttoned just enough, his leather shoes shiny and understated. You’d smiled when you noticed his shoes - they’re the first nice pair he’d been able to afford while living here.

You met him four months ago, when spring was ending and summer soon approaching. He arrived early for his studies abroad, an American political sciences major in the heart of Florence.

Hardly a penny to his name, on a meal plan and receiving a generous scholarship or two, Javi had no business flirting with you. He did it anyway, and you found yourself charmed by his roguish smile and kind eyes. He paid for your gelato, like a typical American gentleman would, and bought some of his own. He ordered the same flavors as you. He hasn’t tried anything different since.

As you kiss him, the sea wind sweeps over the two of you on the secluded terrace where you stand, causing goosebumps to flutter over your skin. You shiver, pressing closer to Javi’s warmth.

He breaks the kiss, looking down at you with a concerned crease between his brows.

“You cold?” he asks, voice rough and deep in a way you don't recognize.

You can’t help but smile at him. He’s so handsome, looking at you like this. Holding you close. “Only a little. You’re warm enough for both of us.”

“This dress,” he murmurs, eyes flitting down to look at your lips. His fingers toy with your dress’s low backline where his hand rests beneath your shoulder blades. “No wonder you’re chilly.”

When your parents first met Javi, they were skeptical. They thought he was taking advantage of you, that he’d insert himself into your life for your wealth and your name.

He’d spent the past four months convincing them otherwise. Now your mother loves him and your father smiles at his jokes, which is something that can’t be said for many people. You can count on one hand the number of people who have made your father laugh, and Javi’s one of them.

He wants to join the FBI, or the CIA. One of the two, you could never get the acronyms straight. He told you about how there’s rigorous training, both physical and professional, to even be considered. Javi keeps himself in good shape for this reason, though your cook’s fine meals have added a bit of softness to his midsection. He complains about it, but you secretly love it. He’s so strong and disciplined that it’s lovely to see just a hint of vice in his features.

You run a hand up his bicep, feeling the muscles that he keeps hidden beneath his shirt.

“Do you like it?” you ask demurely. You bought the dress last week with the express purpose of looking good for him.

Javi takes his hand from your hip and places it on your cheek, his touch tender and gentle.

“You always look beautiful. Especially tonight.”

The party’s for one of your friends from school. She’s moving to the UK to continue her studies and this is her last big hurrah. You’d been invited, with the option for a plus-one, and Javi was the obvious choice.

You’d felt the gazes of the girls in attendance on you and Javi when you both arrived. He’s a few years older than you are, but you know they’re looking because they’ve never seen him before. He’s not part of the rotation of wealthy Florentine boys they all seem to cycle through like clockwork. He’s a stranger, and most importantly, he’s got you on his arm.

The music plays in the distance. Voices float up through the evening air, laughing and exuberant.

You lean into his touch, eyes closing against the comfort you feel with your cheek in his palm.

This must be what heaven feels like.

Javi had taken it slow with you. He earned your friendship before anything else, chatting with you about life and TV and his favorite sports teams back home. He told you about Texas, though when you expressed a desire to visit his hometown, he’d scoffed, calling the place a ‘shithole’.

You still want to visit, someday. Shithole or not.

Perhaps your friendship was the reason things did not progress very quickly between you. You knew he found you attractive and you most definitely felt the same, but for the longest time it just didn’t feel right to try and move things along.

There’d be moments, however, when you wished so desperately that he was yours it almost physically hurt.

One such moment was late one afternoon, on the deck of your family boat. You’d gotten out of the water first and you stood there, watching, as he emerged from the waves in his short swim trunks, the synthetic material clinging to his body ever so perfectly.

You’d seen the outline of… well. You’d seen the outline of something big, something that made you blush and look away, distracting yourself with drying your hair.

Another of these moments was an unremarkable Friday morning spent in one of your favorite bookshops, not too far from Javi's student apartment. You'd been browsing the shelves as he stood outside to smoke. Before long, you found a few paperbacks that looked interesting, and you paid for them with a kind smile to the elderly gentleman working at the register.

You'd exited with a "grazie!" and that's when you'd noticed Javi was speaking to someone, eyes bright and posture relaxed as he exhaled smoke through his nose.

He smiled at you the moment you exited the shop, and as you walked over, you listened to their conversation.

Javi was speaking to the stranger in Spanish. You recognized the sound of it, but could not understand it, having learned English and French and Arabic in your youth.

The other man, older with a salt-and-pepper beard, glanced over to you and then back at Javi. You stood beside your friend, books tucked safely under your arm.

"¿Esta es tu novia, Javier?"

The words caused Javi to blush, but he covered it by taking a drag from his cigarette.

"No, aún no. Algún día pronto."

It was the first time you'd heard him speak Spanish. The words rolled off his tongue with such ease that you couldn't help but glance up at him, intrigued by this new lilt to his voice. You wanted to hear more of it.

Javi snaked his hand around your back to your hip, fingers tucking into the belt loops on your jeans, and he pulled you into his side. You went easily, the motion a familiar one.

But something about hearing him converse in his first language, combined with the feeling of his firm hand on your hip, made something inside your heart shift. It was a small moment, miniscule in the grand order of things. It meant so very much to you.

Javi’s compliment makes you smile softly, his gaze full of such tenderness that it makes your heart ache. You put a hand on his chest, your cool palm a stark contrast to his furnace of a pectoral.

“You don’t look too bad yourself, Peña.”

He chuckles, smiling, his breath a short burst across your face that makes your hair flutter.

Javi's always been good at avoiding praise. "I look the same as always, hermosa."

You run a hand up his shoulder and neck to tangle in his dark curls, warm at the base of his skull. He smells like the cologne you'd helped him pick out - something from a small shop he'd never have found on his own, something woody and deep and fragrant. It was mostly selfish, that shopping trip, because all it makes you want to do is bury your nose in the collar of his shirt where the aroma is strongest. You think you could breathe in that scent for the rest of your life and never get tired of it.

"Exactly," you murmur, glancing over his shoulder at the glittering coastline and then back up to him. "You always look handsome."

It's impossible for him to hide his blush this close. "Yeah?" he asks, like he doesn't believe you. Like he wants to hear you say it again.

"Yes. Even when you wear those ugly sports shirts.”

He makes a face like he’s offended, and you laugh. “Hey, you can never go wrong with a Cowboys jersey.”

You smile and lean up to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth. It seems as though now that you’ve started, you’re trying to make up for all the times you haven’t kissed him.

Javi goes quiet, looking at you like you’re the most beautiful girl in the world. You decide to open your heart just a bit more to him - it must be in the air, because something about the night is making your want of him that much stronger.

“I thought you were handsome the moment I saw you in the gelato shop," you tell him, thinking back on that day.

Usually Americans tended to annoy you, never conscious of local etiquette and manners, always too loud and disruptive - but Javi was so sweet. His brown eyes had glimmered at you like jewels, his lips quirked in a smile that gave life to a thousand butterflies in your stomach.

He'd sat with you for over an hour, listening to you like he'd known you your whole life. The warm sun gave his skin a glow that you remember clearly to this day. Long after you both had finished your food, he was there, as if he had all the time in the world for you.

Javi presses another soft kiss to your lips, slow and mesmerizing, before drawing back again.

"You looked so beautiful," he murmurs, nose brushing against yours. "I never thought you'd give me the time of day."

You can't help but smile. "I knew I'd regret it if I didn't."

It feels like the two of you are on that balcony for the whole of the evening, the blissful joy of finally admitting your feelings - and having them reflected like a mirror in him - taking precedence over all the celebrating going on below you.

Eventually, however, you must return. You walk back to the crowd and one of your good friends gives you a look like she knows exactly where you just were. A blush rises to your cheeks, but when Javi loops a casual, more-than-friendly arm around your waist, you find you don't care all that much about what your friends think.

Hello and thanks for the ask!EDIT: some people made some great additions to this post and I have to update some incorrect information on here, I will do so as soon as I get home!

In terms of ethnicity/race/nationality, I think Casca is very likely of Kushan descent. If you look at baby Casca and the Kushan children from volume 29 ish, they look very similar (e.g. note the hair swirl at the top of the head).

The Kushan Empire did exist in the 1st century and stretched over today’s East Pakistan and North India. The name of the Emperor of this empire was “Kanishka” (insert big thincc here). As far as my knowledge of this location and its history goes, people tend to be lighter skinned in Pakistan and North India, compared to South India, where people are usually of very dark skin color (to this day people are still being discriminated because of their skin color; in their medieval past, they possibly attempted to prohibit race mixing to preserve the lighter skinned “brahmin masterrace” via hindu caste system, but that topic deserves its own documentary lol).

[image source: wikipedia]So I guess Casca’s skin tone ranging from tan to dark black definitely lies in the realm of possibility and canon. The movie trilogy depicts her with a tan and lighter skin tone. In Kentaro Miura’s colorized illustrations she appears to be tanned to dark-skinned and her skin is painted very dark if the environmental light is sparse (at least, from what I recall). From an artist POV that’s how darker skin realistically behaves in strong lighting conditions, too, e.g. In this one:

But then we do have illustrations of her that show her rather tan and light-skinned. And I have a hard time telling whether that’s because of the medium (colored pencil/water color, where colors are usually less saturated and brighter) or because Miura actually wanted her to be lighter-skinned.

I personally like the idea of a dark-skinned Casca a LOT (like in the 1997 anime) and that’s how I illustrate her when I color berserk pages, too. I think it fits her and adds to her character and mysteriousness for some reason, like a “black beauty”, y’know? She is an amazing character, she is very strong, honorable, righteous, smart, sensitive, vulnerable and still feminine. She is also smarter and more strategical than she seems at first glance. It’s amazing that one of the best written female characters that I know of can be such an idol for POC people. We really really need more characters like this tbh. I’m as pale as swiss cheese but I relate to her struggle so much more than any other female character I’ve read about regardless (the only other character that comes to my mind is Lady Oscar). 

What ethnicity are other Berserk characters? 

From what I understand, they seem to be mostly European. Let’s take a look at their names, settings and history:

the Vandimion family being involved with the Pope and the “Holy See” (=> Vatican => Italy)

the names Farnese/Serpico both appear to be Italian

Historically, during the Renaissance there even was a family with deep connection to the papal state called House of Farnese.

Serpico could be a reference to a 1973 movie that is about real life Frank Serpico, who disclosed a network of corruption at the NYPD, and also has Italian citizenship. In other words it appears to be a common italian surname

For side characters, we get names like Gambino (Early Golden Age), Martino (Spring flowers of distant days), and the infamous Tonio whose death was mourned during Lost Children and eventually became a meme. They all sound very Italian to me

Berserk’s Chuder/Tudor Empire also has a real life equivalent: it was a Welsh Royal House in the 15th century

While we’re at it, the French and English did fight a 100-year-war in real life twice [x][x], and - lo and behold! - so did Midland and the Chudor/Tudor Empire

Isma is a name of Arabic origin and means “protection” and “safeguarding the prophets”. It’s kinda funny considering she saved Isidro from falling off the Seahorse during their Sea God battle, and her mermaid mom & Company helped Guts getting out of the Sea God as well

The name Isidro/Isidoro is of Spanish origin. Isidro might be the only one with a name that appears to have Japanese origin [incorrect, see edit].

True, about the natural distasters thing. Like lightning storms can look so cool, and tornadoes are so fascinating, etc, but then there's the reality that they are crazy dangerous... Its also pretty interesting how we can find such things both terrifying and beautiful.

Agh, i need to rant a bit about spanish, then. ^^" I'm in AP Spanish 4 (I signed up for regular Spanish 4 but there werent enough students to form a class so i got dumped into AP; not surprising tbh), and i am just... not doing well. I have a learning difference/neurological disorder, adhd, and it's really kicking into action in this class. We hardly do any writing (not this semester at least), its all oral and listening. The class is like 97% in spanish; our profesor only ever speaks english when its like SUPER important that we know what he is saying.

Also, i get it, i get that this is one of the best ways to learn, being surroounded by the language and having pretty much no choice but to use it. But... i dont know if its just me/my learning difference, or if it's because quarantine interrupted the last few months of school and thus we maybe didn't learn quite as much as we should've in Spanish 3. Maybe that's a reason I'm struggling.

But i just... this entire class causes me such anxiety that I just... i freeze up. Like a deer in headlights. Most of the time, i freeze up literally when called on, and like everything i know of spanish is wiped from my brain;; And then when i have to do assignments, like audio activities, i freeze up in the procrastination way. Like, im just sitting there, doing something else, knowing that i need to get my work done, silently anxious; i kept telling myself to just do it, just get started, it wont be so bad once you get going, but i just... i *cant*. I take one look at it, and i just *cant*.

I feel like im at the lowest level in this class, like all my classmates are better than me. And i know they all struggle at least a bit with this class, its an AP language class, of course they do. But my learning difference... and my mom says i shouldn't think this way but i cant help it. It's never made me feel this way before but i just feel so *lesser* because of it. I have an F in this class, for goodness sake. Ive never had an F in a class. I dont think ive even had a D! And if i did, it was honours bio, because man that class was a punch to the face in first semester.

I digress.

Haa... I'm stuck here. I can't leave this class. I want to know this language; and if I can't do this for Spanish, how am I going to do it for French? Or Russian? Or Danish or Korean or German or any other language I desire to learn? I keep thinking, maybe i'm being too ambitious. But at least that thought doesn't drag me down because- maybe I *am*, but I'm also far too passionate about languages to even consider backing out as an option.

It feels like this year started out decent, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, the stressors came, one after another, and just when i think i can catch a break, another appears. Its just...

I really hope 2021 will mark the start of something better. 2020 is a distaster, both globally and personally, haha

Oh wow. I can relate quite a lot tbh. Without going into too much detail, I am in a slightly similar situation in my workplace. It is very tough to concentrate for a long time, even more so when you barely understand what is going on. Not to mention most of the learning content being oral. Writing things down is a very important part of learning in my eyes. I cannot imagine understanding things if I don’t have any notes I can refer to, especially in the context of language. 

It may be helpful for some to be forcefully surrounded by the language, but we all have different styles of learning, so I don’t think you’re necessarily worse than your classmates are, you’re just at a disadvantage. Which isn’t helpful to know per se, but maybe it makes you feel a little bit better about it? Tbh I think it’s a combination of all those things. Your adhd, the pandemic, the quarantine. All of this a lot. Especially if you have a mind that likes to run for the hills at the most inconvenient times. 

I have very little understanding of the american school system, but let me assure your anyway that grades are not everything. Companies and schools like to tell you that, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Your grades do not define your intelligence, your working ability or your worth as a person at all. I think you can still manage to learn all of these languages, you’ll just need to find a learning style that works for you. It’s already a good start that you’re passionate about it. I’m pretty convinced you could make it, albeit it might take you a little bit longer. But life is not a race. You’re allowed and I’d also encourage you to do things at your own pace. As far as you can dictate that pace anyway. 

Do you maybe have some friends/people you get along with in class that could help you getting a better insight on the class maybe? I can only talk about myself, but I used to find it quite helpful to exchange my learning experiences with other students. Sometimes it even gave me the right push to understand something I struggled with. It won’t solve all the issues, but it might help just a little. 

I feel you about 2020 being a disaster lol I also thought I was let off easy, but as it turned out it had quite a lot in store for me all of a sudden. I don’t want to jinx it, but I doubt 2021 can be much worse tbh lol

alright, i decided to tackle this hylian language a bit more seriously. please refer to THIS POST though for more information. if you have any questions about what link can or cant understand, feel free to contact me. everything else will be under a read more as this will kinda be a bit extensive and tackle a few things.

please note that i am not a linguistics major, i never took a class in my life, this headcanon in basely solely on what i managed to scrap up together in my 5ish hours of looking through information & videos. it is a bit of a mess but i hope as time progresses, and i get to compare languages, i can touch and finalise this up a bit.

Fortunately the Hylian scriptures for Twilight Princess ( the 4th hylian script ) is actually one of the EASIER languages to.... not only translate, but it has a more definitive lettering style ( i.e. letters aren’t repeated like they are in the other scripts ( ss & botw repeat letters ). Below is the 4th Hylian alphabet: ( taken from this site. )

please note the following:

we are NOT going to look at the wii version of the game. I have both the wii and the wiiu version, and the wiiu version reverts it back to it’s original styling. the wii version is just everything mirrored and is a bit of a hassle to explain so for our purposes, we will consider the alphabet as it’s original forme. 

reading about the language got me realising that the different types of hylian could be taken from hieroglyphs ( like egyptian ), obviously japanese, & latin. you can see it throughout the 6 scripts just look:

Its important to note all of these when considering the PHONETICS of hylian. Like I said before, there are different dialects of hylian && the change depending on if its newer or older. So the accent could sound different depending on which world you are in. So the same words can be said differently depending on which Link you talk to. While each Link would understand one another, their accents would be slightly different. Since this is TWILIGHT PRINCESS link, i will discuss a bit about TP Link. As i mentioned, i do have HCs for Skyward Sword Link and Breath of the Wild Link, but I am not going to get into that. 

So for how Hylians talk in Twilight Princess, i actually had to look at the names of the enemies to get an idea of the nomenclature. Here the enemy list of twilight princess. In addition to that, here are the characters of twilight princess. These names are all important as it gives a little bit of insight in regards to how they spell names and what they call things.

I looked into latin linguistics && phonetics first as it looked like the 4th hylian script seems to come from the latin alphabet for english. latin is also easier for me as half my family comes form a latin speaking family ( the other is slavic based ). I found two videos for how latin was spoken.

looking back at the names of enemies in twilight princess after watching these videos, kinda helped give me a better understanding of how link would talk. essentially there are hard sounds in the names, s is NEVER z, & R���s are rolled ( most likely ALWAYS ). granted, there are some names what would be hard to say in Twilight Princess, but there are far & few in between, for the most part, you can kinda tell that they are latin based. just take aeralfos for example. the ae in that word alone is enough to tell you that there’s latin in there.

i’ve taken enough years of spanish to probably be biased as well, but i cannot ignore the fact that there are romance languages in some of the names of enemies and names of the TP people. you can also.... copy and paste their names into google translate as well to hear how a latin speaker would say it, but there are times when google translate wants to translate from italian, french, and EVEN catalan. 

Obviously the japanese names for the enemies are a different story but.... then again, what is to say that hylain takes from both latin AND japanese. I wouldn’t doubt it tbh. not to mention that the gerudo reminds me of egypt due to their living conditions and style of clothing comes from egyptian roots. but that’s gerudo -- not hylian. ( though i’m sure hylians living amongst the gerudo probably have their own kind of hylian as well thats closer to gerudo roots ). Let’s also not forget that i also mentioned that twili is a FORM of hylian ( so possibly you can see latin & arabic roots there ). But we aren’t talking about twili language this is strictly hylian. so back to hylian.

my take on it is that link’s accent is heavy as in, you can tell he is a foreigner. he’s easy to hear because he speaks clearly..... ( when he speaks ) but hard to understand because it may sound like something you know, and your brain probably wants to understand, but it sounds.... off. like i said he will most likely always roll his Rs, his Cs sound like Ks, I’s with the Es, & so on.... there may be some distinction for some words & names, that sound more asian than latin, but its mainly cause as I have said before, the hylian scriptures also seem to take from a variety of languages so i would be surprised about it. 

as always, i will try to further develop his language, i just... don’t have a lot to go on. if anybody knows any other language and wants to talk about this, please let me know. i would love to compare languages and see what other people think.

MUN QUESTIONS. Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ? A1 : honestly??? i think i would keep it the way it is, BUT i would like to have seen some more canonical information about galo’s family. as of right now, we know that kray saved him after his family was attacked by the burnish. if i were to direct a new movie about galo, i would focus it mainly on his family. Q2 : what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ? A2 : i think it would be a mix of melancholic music as well as more upbeat stuff. on my blog’s main page there are links in the sidebar to both a soundtrack playlist as well as a pop music playlist; i definitely think it’s fair that a variety of genres would suit him and his experiences. Q3 : why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ? A3 : when i first watched promare, i was instantly drawn to this buffoon himbo. i’ve always had a thing for upbeat, energetic characters who are also quite caring and a bit dumb (which yes galo is very smart but he has his moments). while their personalities differ greatly (despite having the same personality type), he reminds me a lot of lance from vld, who i absolutely adore as well (and i also rp him too oops) Q4 : what  first  attracted  you  to  this  character ? A4 : again, probably his personality. while i’m not as energetic and upbeat as galo and i have a very, very different personality type than him, i feel like i definitely do understand him. i understand why he feels he needs to be overly confident, and i also have my moments where i just need to storm off and be alone. god i could write paragraphs and paragraphs about why i like galo but i wanna keep it short and sweet and just stick with those two points, which i consider to be the biggest points. Q5 : describe  the  biggest  thing  you  dislike  about  your  muse. A5 : look, i know i said i liked confidence, but something about galo that annoys me is the fact that he can often seem too confident. like yeah he seemed pretty humble in that pizza scene at the beginning of the movie, but i can’t help but feel a twinge of annoyance towards people who put themselves right into the center of attention and be all like “yeah i know i’m great.” like my boy i love you but do u have to announce urself every time u appear on the scene??? and pls stop being so reckless u honestly might die too soon one of these days we want u to be around for us to enjoy u Q6 : what  do  you  have  in  common  with  your  muse ? A6 : i definitely feel like we both have our moments where we just need some peace and quiet. of course, everyone needs this, but when galo talked about running off when he was pissed reminded me of me; i tend to go and cool off and vent to myself if i’m annoyed about something. we’re both naturally people-oriented and love to be around others, even though galo likes being the center of attention a little bit more than myself. Q7 : how  does  your  muse  feel  about  you ? A7 : in the sense that if galo were real, i honestly think we would get along fairly well. we have different ways of dealing with things, but we have similar habits and personality traits. however when it comes to rp blogs, while i do like to headcanon things about my muses that mirror my own opinions and beliefs, i do consider the mun/muse relationship fairly symbiotic. we as real people can learn so much from fictional characters and in how we play them, and of course, the mun will determine some things about the muse that will deter from canon. Q8 : what  characters  does  your  muse  have  interesting  interactions  with ? A8 : i just started this blog and have had very minimal interactions, so it’s hard to say ! i’d say that an interaction with a kray muse would be the most interesting. part of me wants galo to forgive kray and to have a better relationship with him post-movie canon, but there’s still so much about galo and kray’s relationship pre-movie as well; what was their relationship like? was kray like a father to galo? how can i describe the psychological mindset that galo had after finding out that kray betrayed him? there’s so much about these two that i really want to discover and look at, while of course providing my own insight (cuz that’s what muns do, right?). Q9 : what  gives  you  inspiration  to  write  your  muse ? A9 : i like to study galo’s actions in the movie, and try to find the underlying cause of the actions he takes. however, when it comes to headcanons, i will often think of a scene or an idea in my head and then internally apply it to galo and see if it works. this is usually what kindles my writing fire: the thoughts that often rush through my head. Q10 : how  long  did  this  take  you  to  complete ? A10 : like two whole days lmao im so slow

1. Height: 5′3 ish? tbh I have not been measured in years and the last time I was in high school I was at 5′2, so now I just kinda...well I lie, and presume I gained that extra bit even though I really might not have lol.

2. Last thing I googled: ‘clothing brands worn by the band Queen’ because-well, actually, does it shock anyone that I’ve googled this? I live for so much of the shit they wore in the 70s and 80s and just really wish I could find reproductions of some of it (also that Hot Dad look in the 90s they all had going? that’s just basically my work uniform in terms of the button ups and weird ties and bow ties I own, so I’ve already got that bit down, even if I don’t look as good as they do rocking it.) 

3. Favorite musicians: ...so many, and also do bands count? Like if you admire each member of the band as a respective musician and in what they contribute to their group as well as any individual work? Because if that counts then a short list (made off of the much longer full list, and I swear I really did try and pare this down but it was difficult!) would be: Queen, Avatar, Brendon Small, Gene Hoglan, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator, Hozier, My Chemical Romance, Banks, Brian Eno, Elton John, Cab Calloway, Cocorosie, David Bowie, The Decemberists, Fever Ray, WEEP, Ghost, Janelle Monae, Jozef Van Wissem, Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Miike Snow, Mother Mother, Tom Waits, and Sufjan Stevens (and I’m forcing myself to end this list here lol.) 

4. Song stuck in my head: I’ve got a few, but the top three competing to play all at once in my head currently are: Sweatpants by Childish Gambino, Earfquake by Tyler the Creator, and Son and Daughter by Queen.

5. Followers: 225, and I’m grateful for each one! I never anticipated having that many people following me on here tbh, when I started this blog...jesus, back at the end of high school/beginning of college? Time is a cold motherfucker lol.

6. Following: 276. I was following over 600 a few days ago, but I finally went thru and cleaned it out. A lot of people hadn’t posted in months, or years, so I just kinda figure they aren’t coming back now, tbh. My dash isn’t as busy as I’d like it to be, but I also actually see everyone’s posts whereas before they didn’t always show up, so it’s a decent exchange.

7. Do you get asks: Sometimes! Especially recently, folks have been wonderful about sending in requests and asks for the various ask box things I reblog. I sometimes worry that I reblog too many of those, but I honestly do really like getting to talk to folks on here and interact, and getting asks or mentioned on posts really does make my day!!

8. Amount of sleep: if my insomnia isn’t being terrible, then between 4-6 hours most nights. If it is being an asshole, then more like 3-4 max. I’ve gotten a full 8 hours once before though, and boy was that fuckin weird.

9. Lucky number: Don’t know if they’re lucky, but the numbers 2 and 6 seem to turn up a lot in my life, which I consider a cool little thing. Probably the closest I have to lucky numbers.

10. What are you wearing: A very old pair of sweatpants and an Avatar shirt, because my after-work uniform is basically all lounge clothes/pjs mixed with band t-shirts.

11. Dream Job: Published author/screenwriter and/or museum docent. I mean, don’t get me wrong I love just writing as I do now, but it would be cool to get my work out there more and also be able to make a bit of a living off of it, even if I did still need to have another day job. I think I’d be a lot happier, if I could make that happen at least. 

12. Instruments: I learned and played clarinet from elementary school into my first year of high school. I play guitar badly. Can fuck around on a piano but suck at reading music so anything I play on it is usually just whatever’s in my head at the time. Own a mandolin, play it poorly. Does the recorder count if you’ve not played it since like sixth grade?

13. Languages: English is my first language. Took almost four years of Spanish, but don’t speak it well, though I can understand a bit of it when I need to at work. Took a year of German, but really only recall the German swear words my German/Russian grandma and great-grandma have taught me over the years. Un petit peu of French but very basic levels-like I can order a sandwich, but please don’t ask me to say much else lol. Jag prata svenska, men det är inte gud. Swedish is probably the one I speak best after English, but I admit my accent is painful to listen to, even to me. Someday it will sound not totally horrible, maybe. 

14. Favorite song: Just one? Oh dear. Well, there’s really a rota for this so I’ll give you the most recent favorite: Action This Day by Queen 

15. Random fact: I occasionally study contortion because I fell in love with what the contortionists at Cirque Du Soleil can do, and I’ve always been flexible enough to move my limbs to places they probably don’t belong, despite not really being very physically fit otherwise. I’ll never be flexible enough or good enough to actually use it anywhere, but it spices up my exercise routine when I need a break from dance, yoga, and weights. Also, it’s weirdly fun seeing if you can get your foot to rest on your face (I can! And it definitely should not be that exciting but I’m nearly 25 and struggling in various other areas of my life, so the little things really count.) 

16. Aesthetic: I’ll always be a little bit goth, I think. Could go and do Goth 2 Boss, and it would still be there, y’know? I’m trying to think of some of the ways friends and coworkers have described me/my look/general vibe, a few are: 

-A librarian that works part time as a roadie but doesn’t have two separate wardrobes for each job

-Like I’m constantly trying to look as queer as possible, so that I’m not mistaken for a heterosexual (though this one is honestly true, my dream is to find one of those vintage ‘how dare you presume I’m heterosexual’ buttons from the 80s and just add that onto my current set of looks)

-A dramatic demon that also cares about having sensible footwear (I like swooshy clothes and I like not fucking up my ankles more than I already have, I can’t help it that I can’t give up either of these things for Fashion)

-Like a Cool Uncle/Justin McElroy (true, and you’ll tear my horribly patterned shirts and various Hot Dad button ups from my cold undead hands.) 

-Like a vampire who didn’t really understand the Vampire Fashion Memo but tries really hard (a friend tossed me this one, and I still can’t tell if she meant it as a compliment or a plain old insult, but either way I admit she’s kind of right lol)

-Like you’re trying to steal Richard Ayoade’s wardrobe (this one came from my mum, and she’s right, I am. He dresses wonderfully.)

So...all of that in one, I guess?

03- BUCKET LIST

My Day 03!

Here is a list of all the goals I want to achieve, dreams  I want to fulfill and life experiences I desire to experience before I die in no particular order.

1. To be able to see all the 81 provinces of the Philippines!

As much as I’ve always like to travel, Local and International destinations, I would like to complete all the provinces of my own Country first. I know that there are a lot of beautiful places to explore in the Philippines itself, some are still pure and untouched. I like Nature tripping, sightseeing, walk and explore, so for sure, this is gonna be something to treasure for the rest of my life.

2. Go on a Carribean Cruise!

I know that this may require a lot of money and definitely, it wouldn't be the first option if I get the chance to choose what to do as of these days, but still, this is on my Bucket List. Well, I guess the least I could do is to start on an Asian cruise trip and hop Island to Island.

3. Do the thing that scares you! Rephrased: Do the things that excite you.

I’ve always wanted to experience exciting things as I’m fond of doing outdoor activities. The scary ones, Sky Diving, Cliff diving, Hot Air ballon, Mountain Climbing, Trekking, Aerial Trekking, Mountain Biking, Scuba Diving (haven't tried any one of them outdoor yet but I've tried indoor aerial trek, wall climbing, and bungee jumping, but soon I will! 😅) or even the a-little-bit-easier-ones, Camping in the woods, Ziplines or trail walking and the stuff.

4. Live in a Wood House by the Lake.

This depends as to where we are going to settle later on. If RJ and I chose to settle with our family in the Philippines, then we could at least build a Log house somewhere in the province.

5. Learn to play Chess.

Not only to play the basics but to master it. Idk, playing chess is kinda smart and interesting to me and whenever I happen to cross any videos of a Chess tournament or competition and I see the way how the players, young and old concentrates and do their moves are quite fascinating.

6. Start a Business.

Definitely included in my Bucket list. As early as this stage, husband and I are planning to start our own business in the years to come. My options are always related to Food business, like to put up a small but cozy All day Breakfast. Other options are Water station, Travel Agency, or a Laundry Shop.

7. Do a Volunteer Work.

I feel excited just by the thoughts that I’m doing a volunteer work of any kind that travels from one place to another. I think this is one of the best ways to expose myself to new people by offering my help in terms of skills, knowledge, time and effort whether it is assisting the elderly at the old folks home, working with delinquent kids, beach cleanups, tree planting, distributing food, water and medicines to less fortunate people and the likes.

8. Learn a New Language.

Learning a New language is never easy. I’ve been to a few Countries where English is not the second language and I admire people that are multi-lingual. I’m personally fluent in English as this is our second dialect in the Philippines aside from Living away in a foreign country, I have to communicate in English for easier understanding.  I have a few knowledge in Japanese, I understand a bit but I couldn't speak and mostly word by word haha! Definitely, I’d love to learn a few in the future, to be fluent in Japanese perhaps, or Spanish, French maybe or Ilocano- my husband native tongue.

9. Learn how to cook.

TBH, I know how to cook simple dishes like Typical Filipino food but I don't practice that much. I never used to cook due to different reasons:

A. I never cooked at home even until I graduated College as my Father used to be the head of the kitchen. When I left home and live away, I seldom cook for myself and would always order take away food from the restaurants, or eat light food or just fruits. I only cook occasionally whenever I’m in the Philippines and here abroad, RJ always does the cooking.

B. Another reason is that I want my kitchen to be small and cozy, clean and tidy without the stinky smell as this would give me the encouragement to cook, haha!

10. To Live in the Slums/Squatters/Raft for some time.

I know this is kinda silly but I have this enchantment to experience how to live in the Slum area or to Live in a raft floating in the creek/river for some time like a month or so. I’ve always mentioned this to RJ that during our vacation, I want to arrange ourselves for a month stay in the slum or if we were not able to bear in the slums, but somewhere like under the bridge or live near the train station or the raft and document it for record purpose without revealing our real identity and blend ourselves with the people and environment. I know that he doesn't support me on this one but just to give in to my whims, he promised to go with me, soon!

I'ld really love to see a translater mc 😊 (if you have a lot of work you can just do Jumin , Saeyoung , Saeran and V) I hope you have a nice day! 😊 (And by the way I wonder wich Saeran you like the most , I love his every character, but his unknown style is the best I think)

This request makes me so happy because I want to be a translator too! I’m fluent in two languages, English and German, and I want to be able to translate at hospitals. I am currently studying Korean right night so hopefully, if I can get fluent in that (fingers crossed - it’s proved to be a difficult language!) I can translate Korean too! Which languages do you ‘specialize’ or hope to specialize in? :)

I love all the Saeran’s equally, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Unknown too.

Jumin finds it absolutely fascinating how you can be speaking one language, and then the second you are needed to speak another, you can quickly switch to that language.

Besides Korean, Jumin knows English, but even so he’ll have to think about it before speaking where as it just rolls off your tongue perfectly.

He is very curious in what made you want to be a translator,

How you learnt your second - or all of them if it’s more than two - language,

What motivated you, why those languages.

He’s all in all really interested in your career as a translator. He can see just how devoted and skilled you are, and he finds it absolutely breathtaking.

“Everyday you continue to amaze me, my darling.”

You’ll grin, and tell him you love him in which ever language you desire.

Because Seven is fluent in about 20 to 30 different languages, throughout the day you’ll switch what language you are speaking to each other.

One second it’s Korean, the next it’s English, and then it’s a completely different language altogether!

“How are you, my love?”

“나는 좋은 분이십니까?” - I’m good, and you little 606?

“Wunderbar!” - Wonderful!

Overall, it gives Saeran a bit of a headache. He never knows what language you guys are going to choose.

Seven would probably be the most supportive of your career as a translator, or if you were working to be one, most supportive in helping you to reach that dream.

He thinks that languages are really important, and that it is a crucial part of life. There are so many different languages and different cultures, that we need more translators in the world to help those who don’t understand the different languages and cultures.

When you first tell him that you are a translator, he just smiles, so proud of what you’ve done.

Clearly this is something you’ve worked for.

He’ll ask you at random times during the day to speak a certain language, depending on which one he wants to hear.

They’re all so beautiful, especially when being said by you.

V knows a little English so he’ll try to hold a conversation with you.

He mispronounces a few words, but you’ll gently correct him, only giggling a little bit.

His accent is really hot tbh, so you don’t mind when he messes up.

In fact, you encourage it, telling him mistakes is what leads to greatness.

“I couldn’t have said it better myself, darling.”

☻ Saeran/Unknown ☻

Cool.

That was his initial reaction. In all honesty, he probably didn’t actually know what a translator is. He thought it had something to do with computers or writing stuff down.

But when he finds out just what a translator does, meaning what you do, he’s pretty engrossed in your career.

“Why did you want to be a translator? I can ask that, right?”

“Of course, silly!”

Saeran smiled, looking down at you and patting your head. “Good, because… I’m curious.”

Since Saeran doesn’t have a job yet, he’ll ask if he can sometimes go with you to work, depending on where it is you translate.

If you’re at a school, he can come. Hospital, depends on whos there. Airport, no way in hell will he be comfortable.

He absolutely loves hearing you speak different languages. He might not understand what you are saying but he finds it to be so beautiful and enriching. He could listen to you speak for hours.

Sometimes, when he can’t sleep, he’ll ask you to sing him a lullaby in a different language. It’s something that helps him know that you are there.

Gets into languages now. He’ll ask Seven to take him to the library so he can get books that help to teach you another language.

Some of his favorites are Spanish, Vietnamese, German. But he has only really looked at the basics.

He can’t seem to stick to a language.

But he hopes that you’ll help him with that.

“Do you think maybe one day if we get the money, we could go to one of these places, say, France, and speak French to people?” Of course, baby, whatever you want.
