drabble: happy birthday, kaveh!
The day was like any other.  Kaveh woke up, got dressed and ready for the day, had breakfast with Alhaitham and then got to work on drafts that needed to be revised.
He had almost forgotten it was his birthday, but it was fine.  His birthdays no longer held the same excitement as they did when he was a child.  They felt more melancholy now.
When he was little, Kaveh would run up to his father who picked him up and kissed his cheek with a wide smile.  His father would wish him a Happy Birthday, saying it was a very special day because that was the day their family became whole.  Him, his papa and his mama.
A happy, whole, little family.
After dinner, his mama and papa would bring out a cake and Kaveh would blow out the candles!  He’d try to do it in one breath, and was told to make a wish.  There wasn’t much that Kaveh wanted for when he was a child, so he would always wish for their family to be happy.
Kaveh wasn’t sure when he had zoned out, but a hand on his shoulder brought him back.  He looked up to see Alhaitham, a forever constant in his life in one way or another, and took the cup of coffee he offered.
“We have visitors,” Alhaitham told him and ushered Kaveh to the living room.
The front door opened and three grinning faces joined them in their home with well wishes and gifts.  “Happy birthday, Kaveh!!”  “Happy birthday, Mr. Kaveh!”
Kaveh met their friends with a warm smile and joined them on the divans for a small, impromptu party.
Tighnari had gifted him a succulent–a low maintenance plant for his office to brighten up the area.
Cyno had, of course, gifted him something TCG related–a custom made Casket of Tomes; it was a beautiful red with gold and white patterns painted onto it.
Collie had sewn him a little desert fox plush to go with the plant on his desk.
And Alhaitham… He had found a fairy tale book about the aranara, one Kaveh had only mentioned a few times that his father would read to him as a child.  Kaveh stared at Alhaitham as he took the book and held it close to his chest.
“How did you…?” Kaveh started.
“I don’t ignore you when you speak.  Is that what you thought?”
“No, I just…  Thank you, Alhaitham,” Kaveh smiled, “Thank you, everyone.  I love everything.”
“We’re not done yet, Mr. Kaveh!” Collie chirped as she set a cake on the table, “No birthday is complete without cake, right?”
“Heheh… Right.”
Kaveh wasn’t alone anymore.  He still had a family–a found family with cherished friends.
A happy, whole, little family.
Maybe his birthday wasn’t so bad, after all.

⤡ self-birthday gift!

spending your birthday with alhaitham will be one of the most calming yet memorable experiences in your life.
he doesn’t surprise you with grand gestures, only showing up to your workplace to drop off flowers and a small gift in the morning (he had them personally reviewed and recommended by his friend tighnari, whom you cannot thank enough). it was signed with his name and a heart. your coworkers shower you with compliments and giggles, they can only imagine what kind of man he is.
to alhaitham, a birthday is never ordinary. growing up with his grandmother, he has learned that with each passing year, you must appreciate it. savor it, even. because as you get older, things change, and he wants you to have the right to a peaceful life. maybe this is just his way of saying: i want to get old with you and live together (without kaveh, preferably, or maybe, only if you want a marriage counselor).
after you leave work, he’ll take you to your favorite restaurant. he knows he might not be the best cook in the world, so he’d rather not take his chances and instead enjoy a meal without the house burning. he’ll come out of his car with the same sweater he knows you’ll love. he’ll open the passenger door for you. not without a kiss on the back of your hand, of course. and he’ll tell you how much he loves to hear you laugh. it’s one of those things he’ll never get sick of.
at the end of your dinner, when he takes you home, he’ll turn on the lights and reveal a small handful of your friends crowded around your dinner table. your favorite cake settled at the center with colorful candles. they gathered around, passing gifts to you, all while you blew the candle and made a very special wish. one that you made as you looked fondly at your boyfriend.
perhaps it was something about your future. the thought makes alhaitham a little curious. and he kisses the back of your ear, whispering to you to spill about your wish. you gently smack him on the shoulder. with a roll of your eyes, you remind him that if you tell him your wish, it might not come true.
after they leave, you’re left alone with alhaitham. tucked beneath his arm on the couch, he gives you another kiss on your temple. there is one more gift he has left for you. and it's not him reading one of your favorite books before bed.
with another kiss, he shows you a small box. it is filled to the brim with various trinkets, all that reminds him of you. some were keychains from your favorite show or series. others were stickers or anything small he could get his hands on whenever he traveled. but most importantly there were flowers that he had given you in the past that have now been dried and pressed, kept perfectly sealed in a resin necklace.
he’s a quiet yet sentimental man. you knew this to be true. so this gift isn’t all too surprising. but it makes your heart leap into your throat, and you wrap your arms around his neck, bringing him into a very, passionate kiss.
“happy birthday darling,” he smiles, squeezing you close to his heart.

spending your birthday with kazuha would be exciting and thrilling, with the wind on your cheek, you'll experience a world full of fun.
he’ll stay in the morning with you, lazily kissing you as you stir from your slumber. he’ll recite some of his poems. a few that he rehearsed and practiced the other night, trying to make sure they don’t come out jumbled. but in your half-asleep state, you could only make out a few of those words. and yet you pull him into your arms, squeezing him as tight as you can as you try to wear off the tiredness. he can only laugh with that beautiful voice of his, kissing you once more on the forehead as you go back to sleep.
he had the whole day planned for you. he’ll take you to a farmer’s market so you can try out a variety of local foods. walking hand in hand as you pass by every stall you come across as interesting. you’ll learn from this experience that he does not like pepperjack cheese, and the sour expression on his face was enough to tell you he wants to spit it out.
behind your back, he bought a very special bracelet. he made sure you weren’t around to see what he wanted engraved on it. he was especially careful as you were not one to simply roam off. but when it was finished, he was sighing a breath of relief as he saw the final product. tucking it deep into his pocket, he smiled and waved to the vendor, thanking them for their hard work.
he’ll come back to meet you, squeezing your hand as he takes you to your next location: a museum. this museum could be anything ranging from art to exotic exhibits. he loved seeing the sparkle in your eyes as you read through each magazine, brochure, and infographic you came across. it seemed like your curiosity couldn’t get any brighter as he saw you tug him into the next room, a beaming smile sending his heart into cardiac arrest.
he’s happy that at the end of the museum, you and he got to have pennies pressed into cute designs. yours was from your favorite painting, while he was… charming to say the least!
regardless, he finishes the day off at the park. he laid out a blanket and took out a small cake, lighting up a candle with a match as he sang you happy birthday. the song is quite beautiful, but nothing could ever compare to the loving gaze that he has for you.
this is when he takes out the bracelet, tying it around your wrist as you admire it underneath the moonlight. it was a mix between your favorite color and his. it had a symbol of a maple leaf and your constellation. it was one of the best things you’ve gotten today, and you cannot hold back your excitement as you pull him into a kiss.
with notes of sweetness and cream, he pulls away to grin, “happy birthday songbird.”

Hello! How are you?
So, this request is a little specific... if you chose not to write it, it's completely understandable!
Anyway, imagine that a fem!reader is The Traveler (but reader has her own appearance). And, since she has been separated from her twin, she feels particularly lonely on her birthday. Like: she celebrates her day with her friends normally (she wouldn't want to worry them + they do make her feel loved), but, at the end of the day, she's still alone. Her twin's not there to celebrate with her. At midnight, they won't be the first to wish each other a happy birthday. She'll have to blow out all the candles by herself. Her name looks lonely on the cake. And the happy birthday song sounds wrong without his. Her friends are bringing gifts for her only. Not for him. Because he's not there and won't be.
I miss you
A/n: Im sorry I took so long to do this request! I did some of my fav characters, enjoy!~

Kazuha 🍁
You stood on the balcony of wangshu inn, overlooking liyue's plains. The cold breeze made you shiver as you counted down the seconds until it hit 12am. The sky was still dark, everyone fast asleep and you knew it was hopeless but deep down you wished your twin brother could hear you say, "happy birthday," as the clock striked 12.
Instead, you heard another familiar voice say,"happy birthday," with you. You turned around to see Kazuha standing behind you with his signature soft smile and a nearly wrapped present in his hands.
"What are you doing here?" you asked, "you should be asleep."
"You told me how your brother and you would count down the seconds until midnight so you could wish each other happy birthday," Kazuha explained.
"Kazuha..." you whispered as a small smile crept up onto your face. Despite the overwhelming happiness that flooded your senses, a wave of melancholy swept through, causing small tears to form in your eyes.
Kazuha's eyes widened. He dropped the present to embrace you. "Its ok. We'll find him," he muttered soothingly.
"Thank you Kazuha."
Ayato 💧
You stared at your reflection in the mirror. Ayato had gotten you a new outfit for your birthday. An outfit your brother will probably never see. Will probably never tease you or jokingly say it looks dumb. As you mentally prepared yourself for your birthday party, Ayato knocked on your door. A knock you didn't hear. Instead, your head was filled with dread as the thought of your brother not being there. Not being together on both or you's birthday for the first time since you two were well...born.
The door slid open, making you turn around to see Ayato peaking into your room. He smiled, "you look beautiful. Are you ready to go?"
"Thank you, um," you looked back at the mirror and saw your inteyvat flower on the mirror and a grim look flashed on your face.
"Are you ok?" Ayato asked.
"Yeah I'm fine, lets go," you said, smiling.
Ayato only sighed. "You know we don't have to go if you don't want to, I can just tell Thoma you're not feeling well," Ayato said. "So whats wrong?"
"I-...It's the first time I haven't celebrated my birthday with my brother."
Ayato pursed his lips and walked towards you. He tucked a strand of hair behind your eyes and looked straight into your eyes. "I'm sure whereever your brother is, he's wishing you a happy birthday and missing you." "We can just celebrate by ourselves if you'd like?"
"Yeah, ok thanks."
"I'll go tell Thoma you're not feeling well."
You smiled.
Ayaka ❄️
Everyone had gone home. Only Thoma, Ayaka and you were left, cleaning up. Thoma left to another room to wash the dishes leaving you Ayaka alone, cleaning up the ripped wrapping paper and confetti onthe ground.
"That was a fun party," Ayaka said, a wide close-eyed smile on her face.
"Yeah, especially when Itto ran around screaming because he couldn't handle some spice," you said, laughing. Ayaka giggled at the memory.
A random thought popped into your mind and you stopped laughing, alerting Ayaka. He wasn't here. I couldn't wish him happy birthday. All the cards were for you but not for him. All the wrapping paper was from your presents none from his.
"(Name)?" Ayaka called, breaking you out of your thoughts.
"Yes?" you replied.
"I know you miss your brother," Ayaka started.
"Huh? No I mean yes but its ok it doesn't matter," you said, looking down at the floor.
"Everything is going to be ok, we'll find him," Ayaka said, walking towards you. She held your hand gently and have a small smile.
"Thank you."
Kaveh 🎨
"(Name)! Are you ready?" Kaveh called out.
"Oh! Um yeah...be right there!" you replied. You glanced at the photo frame of you and your brother and gave a weak smile. You were going to hang out with your friends. You should be happy... but it didn't feel the same knowing he wouldn't be there. "Happy birthday, I miss you."
"(Name)? Who are you talking to-oh," Kaveh stopped at the doorway of your room, glancing between you and the photo on your bedside table. "Are you ok?" "Actually don't answer that, that was a stupid question."
Kaveh hugged you, rubbing your back gently as tears welled up in your eyes. "I just miss him you know?" you said, between sobs.
"I know," Kaveh whispered. "I miss my dad a lot even though your brother isn't dad but you know?"
"Yeah, I know," you said, pulling away from him. You wiped your tears away and looked up at Kaveh who had a sad smile.
"We're gonna do many fun things today though! Ok? I'll make this your best birthday ever," Kaveh said.
You giggled, "Ok."
Ganyu 💤
The sky was still dark, everyone probably in their beds sleeping soundly. However, you were sitting by the window ledge, staring out the window, gazing at the stars.
"(Name)? Why aren't you asleep?" Ganyu asked, rubbing her eyes as she let out a yawn. She stretched out her arms and walked towards you. "We have work tomorrow you know?"
"I know," you said, never tearing your eyes away from the window.
"Would you like to talk about it?" Ganyu offered, taking a seat next to you. "I can make you prosperous peace."
You smiled, finally looking at ganyu. "You don't have to do all of that." "It's just its going to be...well it is my birthday today," you started, looking at the clock that said 12,"and I've never celebrated my brother's and I's birthday without him."
Ganyu observed you carefully as you ranted about how much you missed him. "It's going to be ok. You'll find him, I'm sure of it and then the two of you will be the happiest you've ever been! After all they say distance makes the heart grow fonder," Ganyu said.
"Yeah I'm sure you're right. Thank you," you said, smiling at her.
"No problem," Ganyu said.
Bonus:
"Your highness, your breakfast is ready," an abyss lector said.
"Ok I'll be there soon," a boy said. The boy looked at a photo on his bedside table, a photo that was framed in an elegant gold photo frame, a photo of you and him. There was a small cake in front of it, his and yours name written on it. His name felt lonely on the cake without yours under it, it felt weird so he tried his best to pipe it out. Your name a little wobbly but it would do. "Happy birthday sister," he said gently, smiling softly, placing an inteyvat flower in front of it.

every year poses the same conundrum: what to gift the feeble scholar for his birthday? one would argue that it's an easy feat, considering kaveh has known the man longer than most. what they are unaware of, however, is the balancing-act that comes with this relationship of theirs. a gift should be thoughtful, yet not over the top. creative, yet still practical. an extravagant gesture would hardly do (though would alhaitham truly understand the subtle nuances of sentimental gestures?)
the sound of opening doors has the architect scrambling to get into position. hurriedly, he pins a sheet over the study's back wall and places a simple cake on the scribe's desk.
now, kaveh stands in front of it and waits.
//
"it only took you forever to get back," kaveh huffs, stepping back to reveal the dessert. "i was starting to worry the cake would go stale." he sighs. with nothing else to add, kaveh makes his way behind the desk. a tug of the sheet reveals a new set of bookshelves entirely — all carved from a rich wood. their sturdy frames bear intricate patterns of swirling vines and delicate filigree, each detail meticulously etched by skilled hands. his roommate's well-loved collection of books sit organized in neat rows, flanked by new additions kaveh has thought to add.
on the left side of the bookcase sits a lone, mounted glass shelf. kaveh clears his throat. "that's for your grandmother's book. i thought you might want a designated spot for it considering how important it is to you. anyway...happy birthday, alhaitham. no matter how you choose to spend it, i hope it brings you some joy."
The distinct feeling that Kaveh is doing something stupid prickles at the back of my neck, and I sigh as I do my best to brush it off. If all goes well, hopefully I won't have too much of a mess to drag him out of when I get back. Honestly, I just want to go home, have a nice bath, and curl up with a new book. It's been a game today of attempting to get my work done while also avoiding people with questions that don't actually need my help (is it seriously so hard to look up the latest research in the House of Daena? You'd think these researchers were practically bottle-fed by the Akasha), and as entertaining as it can be to dodge the rest of the Akademiya, after a while it gets exhausting. Today more than most, I do not want to be bothered beyond what is absolutely necessary, and though I am usually quite adept at being anywhere but where people want me, for some reason the fact that it's my birthday must have leaked, because I can't imagine why else people would be trying to find me now of all times (it's not a national holiday or festival, and there are hardly any meetings that need me, I checked and triple-checked). It's all bordering on overwhelming, so I really, really hope Kaveh hasn't gotten himself in too bad of a jam.
(He is smart, but still. This is Kaveh we're talking about.)
Once I'm off, I take a long and much-needed walk around the gardens, the sweet scents of the flowers and the calm quiet soothing my senses and bolstering me for the trip down into the city. Unfortunately, it's almost past dinnertime by the time I make my way down into Sumeru proper, and I debate whether it's worth it to go eat at Lambad's or just head straight home. My hunger wins out alongside my rationale and previous experienceミcan't think on an empty stomach. Which means it's long past dusk when I finally make it back home, moonlight spotlighting my door. The prickle returns, and I head in with a tired sense of unease. Whatever you've done this time, Kaveh, it better be able to wait until tomorrowミ
Except the man is standing in front of my desk when I enter the study, and a giant sheet covers the back wall of the room. That can't be good. The blond steps back to reveal... a cake? And then takes down the sheet, and there are bookshelves, glorious and beautiful and filled with my things and so well-crafted, oh the details! There's even a place of honor for Grandmother's book? It's... it's all a bit unexpected and yet not... and so utterly Kaveh, to throw his whole heart into a single piece, especially if it's bound to get plenty of use like this one will. Were I a more emotional man, I might have teared up at the sight. As it is, I can't help taking a crack at him (he kind of deserves it for the anxiety he caused me today). "Don't tell me you spent all day working on this just for me. But... thank you. This is... it's good. You picked a good spot for it. As expected of the Light of Kshahrewar." I make to head towards my room, then turn back. "Go ahead and cut that cake, I'll join you in a moment. Seems that New Year's wine you gave me might go well with it."
