One day he asks why you don’t speak, out of curiosity. When you give him your reply, he thinks about it, nods, then gives you a kiss

Summary: In this manor it felt like you were in a loop. It never begins, it never ends. Just why are you here?

Possible Trigger Warnings: Yandere behavior such as a forced relationship, implied kidnapping, mind altering (?)

"I'll write your fate within this tome. You'll be happy, do not resist...."

The words echoed in your mind like a dream. Nothing felt real in this manor. Everything felt like an illusion to your feeble human mind.

The manor felt never-ending as you walked through. You could keep walking until you collapse. It never made any difference.

You wondered what entity made this hell for you. What entity wished to never let you escape this manor no matter how many times you tore open the door. It was hopeless, you were going to give up at some point.

"If you stop struggling..." A voice echoes in your mind as you stop walking. "I'll make this manor a heaven for you."

"Elegant clothing, large feasts, comfy bedding, everything you could ever want. Only if you stop trying to escape."

The offer is tempting but you're stubborn. Once more you try to open the door, the door creaking open one last time. Your eyes are blinded by a light and a figure is in front of you.

"Are humans really this stubborn nowadays? I promise to give you all you could ever want in exchange for staying here? Is it really so much to ask for?"

The deity in front of you wore red and gold clothing, a tome in his arms as he glares at you. Half his face was covered in a mask while the other held a black and crimson eye. Fangs gleamed in his mouth while he spoke.

You cower when the deity crouched in front of you. A sigh leaves his lips as he opens his tome.

"I must add more to this story, it seems..." The deity murmurs as he pulls out a pen. "Adding more to your fate may make you more compliant."

"Who are you?" You ask in fear as the deity looks up from his tome.

"Me? The deity of this manor. I am known as The Embrace, a vampric God of fates. A being who used to be human but ascended to a higher plain." The God introduces himself. Another question falls from your lips.

"Why am I here?"

The Embrace looks hesitant to answer, but gives in.

"I've always wanted a human to play with, a human to care for as a pet. I simply write your fate in this tome and it happens." The Embrace went back to writing as you object.

"But you were human once! Do you not think this is wrong?"

"Hundreds of years ago, yes. I am a new being now, I do not care if you think this is wrong." His answer is cold as he closes his tome. "Being a God can be lonely, I do hope we have fun together."

Before another question can be asked, you feel yourself slipping. This illusion of a place is warped once again. Things begin to change and you find yourself once again on silk sheets.

You barely remember what happened before, your mind going blank as you look at the ceiling.

One last thing blinks through your mind as you get up, a familiar question you felt you heard before.

Anyways, since you asked I will answer.

Seungmin's gesture comes from the idea of "from the earth to the earth" and "we're all connected". Since his district is lumber. The gesture itself is to take someone else's hands and pull them to your chest (an indicator of "I") and then push them back to the person's chest around their heart (an indicator of "you"). That's the short version. The full ritualistic long version, for people who are dying for ex (and who have the time to do it), involves also touching the ground and touching the other person's forehead to smear some dirt on their skin.

Seungmin's earring is something that all kids in Seven get. Generally speaking, you don't have more than two kids. When you become a parent, you pass your earring down as a kind of reminder of family lineage. Tributes who die in the Arena with the earring will never have a future family, so the earring dies with them. If you have more than two children, you break the earring into pieces, so instead of a full loop, you might have a half circle or a stud. If the earring gets too broken down (ie if your family has 3 kids every generation for several generations), you take the piece you do have, break it down into smaller pieces, and mold it into a new circle. This new circle should, in theory (not that anyone looks too closely), hold a piece of the old earring in every section, so even if this new circle needs to be split, it holds pieces of the old one still. Then the cycle continues onwards until it doesn't.

I want to specifically clarify that I think stylists are usually Capitol born but you can be pulled from a district if someone chooses to sponsor you. This is usually extraordinarily rare, as you can imagine people from the Capitol are not usually frolicking about in the districts. Instead it's usually a victor who sponsors a kid. It is very expensive to do so, normally reducing a victor from their high riches state to almost middle class and in some cases impoverished if they make a wrong bet. So Wendy is one of those sponsored kids and she comes from Seven. When you enter the Capitol, you leave everything behind, so Wendy doesn't have her earring anymore and there's no way she can get it back. There's no creation of fully new earrings either. As mentioned above, earrings always contain some piece of the previous, so even if Wendy got a new one, it wouldn't be the same.

Chan's gesture is similar, "born from the sea, return to the sea" and also a reminder to breathe (very important in a water district where yknow drowning is real). The gesture is to touch your dominant hand to your neck and then extend it outwards to the person and then bow to them. I think this one is appropriate because it's a call to the way that sea creatures breathe, through their gills on what you might consider their neck. You bow towards the person because not only does it bring your highest point (your head) closer to sea level (assuming you're above it, which you probably are), but also you're paying respects to both them and their birthplace. There isn't really a longer version of this, though some variations include using salt water and fresh water to anoint the person leaving. Chan's family did it to him when he left for the Capitol.

I personally think that tributes from 1 and 2 embody their districts. Like tributes from 1 have always been beautiful and even if they themselves are not extravagant, they look like they are. Often wreathed in gold and jewels, shine applied to their skin. Luxury yknow? There's a running kind of joke that tributes from 1 are gilded, that they represent corruption in material wealth, that under their pretty surface, they're as vicious and ugly as any tribute. Not wrong really. Tributes from 1 are definitely trained in manipulation, emotional or not.

In comparison, tributes from 2 are steadfast and cold. They are often described as domineering, stony faced, etc (and have the jawlines to match just sayin). They're trained to not be emotive and to be direct. Two tributes are brutally honest, emphasis on the brutal part. They don't often play into lies and trickery, choosing to hunt their prey in the most direct way. That doesn't mean they're above setting traps and such, but they definitely prefer to be personal about it.

Jisung grew up surrounded by power and electricity. Kids are taught from a young age to not touch, even if they really want to know. Because it's deadly right? Electrocution was common in the early days. But it's hard to tamp down curiosity, so Jisung's never really grown out of it. But he's been drilled with the idea that curiosity kills, you check your surroundings first. It needs to be safe before you try anything new. Even then, the idea is to try not to try new things. Though ngl that's probably why Five doesn't have a ton of Victors anyways, because they're not creative or explorative lol

2018 is off to a great start, with both FMA anime being back on Netflix! But ever since Brotherhood overtook 03 in popularity years ago, the FMA fandom has been so deeply divided on the subject of the two anime that even today, a lot of FMA fans who have never seen 03 vehemently refuse to watch it, simply because they heard from someone else that it’s bad.

As someone who’s been in the FMA fandom for about 9 years, could easily go on for hours about the endless problems with 03, and firmly believes the manga is better than both anime anyway, I think that this attitude is bullshit. While I understand that 03 is not everyone’s cup of tea for sure, I think refusing to even try it is a very narrow-minded approach that will only make you miss out. So, from one Mangahood fan to another, here’s my take on why YOU should give 03 a try now that it’s back on Netflix!

Talented voice actors! 03 had a slightly different voice cast from Brotherhood. For the dub, we’ve got the loveable and unforgettable Aaron Dismuke as Al- You might know him for his triumphant return in Brotherhood as young Hohenheim, but he was the original Alphonse Elric, when he was just 12 years old! Aside from that, we’ve got Chris Patton as Greed, Dameon Clarke as Scar, Monica Rial as Dante, and “sexy Greed” Troy Baker as Robocop himself, Frank Archer! And for the original Japanese version, there’s Nana Mizuki (Lan Fan in Brotherhood) as Wrath, Tooru Okawa as Roy, Megumi Toyoguchi as Winry, and Junichi Suwabe (perhaps best known as Victor Nikiforov and Aizawa Shouta) as Greed. And more!

Bonus content from the manga that wasn’t in Brotherhood! While Brotherhood initially rushed through the beginning of the plot under the assumption that we’ve all seen it 500 times already so let’s get to the new stuff, 03 actually took its time and included episodes based off the early stories, such as Youswell or the battle on the train. Not only that, but 03 also includes episodes based off some of the bonus chapters (Dog of the Military, the military festival, the one where Havoc went on a date with Catherine) and even some content from the light novels (The Tringham brothers, the haunted warehouse).

An interesting reimagining of FMA, with new perspectives explored, and new characters! It’s true that 03 has a very different plot and overall tone from Mangahood, and maybe it’s not for everyone, but why is the mere concept of being different seen as a bad thing? Think of it like a fanfiction, an interesting AU with its own distinct flavor. Who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy 03′s style! It features interesting (not always good, not always bad, but certainly interesting) new characters, such as Dante, the Tringham brothers, Wrath, Sloth, Frank Archer, Lujon and Lydia, and Rick and Leo. It also explores new possibilities and new directions that the manga didn’t. Ever wish Nina, Sheska, Lust, Rose, Martel, or Mason got more character development? Do you wonder what the state alchemist exam might be like? Do you think the homunculi simply being created by Father is too boring an origin story? Are your favorite superhero comic storylines the ones that involve alternate universes crossing over with each other? Ever wanted to see a cyborg shoot bullets out of his mouth? After all, it can’t hurt- Either you’ll enjoy it and have a fun time with more FMA content, or you’ll learn for yourself that you don’t like it, and can simply stop watching. But you’ll never know until you try! Please, don’t listen to bitter, negative fans who only want to drive you away from something you might enjoy. (Ngl, most of them probably weren’t even around before Brotherhood came out anyway; I can tell you from experience that before Brotherhood got really popular, 03 was actually considered to be a really good anime, and had it not been so successful Brotherhood would never have even been created.) Happy Easter, Yuuri! by nerdlife4eva: Victor surprises Yuuri with an American style Easter egg hunt, while Yuuri… Yuuri surprises Victor in a whole other way.

The Tsesarevich lives! (WIP) by mtothedestiel: An Anastasia AU. Victor is an orphan with no name, no family, and no memory of a time before he was ten years old. Could he really be the missing Nikiforov heir? An adventure across Europe with two conmen will lead him to the answer. Hopeless Teenage Heart by kiaronna: Well-adjusted adults do not usually consider a tipsy teenage encounter in a bathroom to be the peak of their sexual experience, especially if that encounter was mostly chaste, closed mouth kisses and sighing into each others shoulders as they sat on the cool, real marble of the hotel’s sink basin. Yuuri might not be a well-adjusted adult.

Viktor and Yuuri meet in a high school debate competition, and then later as lawyers in New York. Some things change with time, but others never do.

Lawyer/debate kid AU, short one-shot. Golden Boy by wildenessat221b: The rise of Viktor Nikiforov, the pedestals he's been put on, the people he's been and eventually, the person who makes it all worthwhile. It's a crazy ride, but he gets there.

You Set My Heart on Fire by whelvenwings: Everyone has a soulmate. And everyone sees any marks on their soulmate's skin appear on their own body; it starts with the first marks, drawn on by the midwife at birth. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a soulmate who replies, but Yuuri does, and he knows that he should feel fortunate - however, when he's trying to make a living as a small-time painter, and his soulmate is the famous artist, Viktor Nikiforov... well, it seems slightly less than fortunate. Yuuri can't help but feel self-conscious. So self-conscious, in fact, that he's never even shown Viktor his face, never let Viktor hear his voice. The only way that they've spoken is through ink, writing message after message to each other on their skin - but that's all about to change.

WIP Updates

the “real” victor nikiforov (WIP) by thishasbeencary: So, fine, maybe Yuuri's a little bored and lonely when he likes a dating profile claiming to be Viktor Nikiforov. And, maybe, he's a little pathetic when he gets excited when the account messages him almost immediately after. And, he's definitely stupid for falling in love with someone pretending to be his idol, but he can't help it. It's not like it's the real Viktor Nikiforov, anyway. He knows someone is catfishing him, but he still falls ridiculously in love.

The Return of the Little Piggy (WIP) by SASS_QUEEN: Once there was a boy named Katsuki Yuuri, who was shy, loved to make clothes, had adorable smiles and was fatter than the usual average human being. Unfortunately for him, apparently being chubby wasn't all that accepted in the norm back then. After numerous accounts of bullying, Katsuki Yuuri disappears for good. Now years later, there is now a man only known as Y.K. Fashion tyrant, multimillionaire, professional cold-stare giver... and is trying his ultimate best to run away from his dark past, until a certain silver haired CEO of a certain rival company who went to the same certain college he went to back then decides to flat out entangle their fates together. Do both of them have anything to say for it? Sadly, no. No they don't. (Fashion & Couture AU)

Setting Sun (WIP) by LittleLostStar: Canon-divergent AU. In which Yuuri humiliatingly loses Hot Springs on Ice, Victor goes back to Russia to train Yurio, Yuuri is trapped in Japan with a sadistic replacement, and everyone is miserable—until the night that Yuuri posts some personally relevant song lyrics on Instagram, and wakes up the next morning to find that Victor has posted lyrics which seem to be a reply. Yuuri is sure he's just projecting his regretful wishes onto irrelevant social media posts, rather than Victor talking to him—until it happens again. And again. With the world watching their every move, Victor and Yuuri begin trading lyrics in a secret musical conversation; from playful rivalry to intense seduction, through bubblegum pop and pulse-pounding guitars, their virtual affair unfolds, hidden in plain sight. But the Grand Prix approaches, and one wrong move from Victor or Yuuri could destroy their careers. They'll just have to pretend they're not crazy about each other; how hard could it be?

fire on ice (WIP) by indianchai: Everyone in the world had some sort of affinity with one of the four elements; the proper term was elemental affinity– whether they were best suited with fire, water, earth, or air. All figure skaters were water users. Never in the history of the sport was there professional ice skater that didn't have water as their elemental affinity. Katsuki Yuri had a well-guarded secret that he couldn't have anyone find out about. aka, the one where Yuri could potentially decimate the rink every time he steps on ice, but no one can know. Especially Victor.

Morooka glances at him in concern but Yuuri shrugs it off quickly and shakes his head as he continues, “Really, others try to do it, but no one does a Quad Flip quite as well or quite as clean as Viktor—if they even manage to land it.”

chaos theory (WIP) by thishasbeencary: "Spare no expense," had been Yakov's response to every phone call that Viktor made about the park, which was exactly why Viktor had worked to revive Jurassic Park into Jurassic World. The same idea, but bigger, and better. Bigger park, bigger attractions, bigger dinosaurs, better structures... So why is attendance dropping so much? Maybe the addition of a brand new genetically modified dinosaur would fix that problem.

(Meanwhile, Yuuri Katsuki has a pack of Velociraptors, and Yuri Plisetsky gets invited to bring a friend on an all expense paid trip to Viktor's park.)

And while they've built everything up so that things couldn't possibly go wrong, well... Life finds a way.

Come Fly with Me by Multiple_Universes: Phichit and Yuuri work for a charter airline, the CEO of which is Celestino. One day they have to fly legendary pilot Victor Nikiforov who saved 232 passengers by making a miraculous landing. Can Yuuri get a date from him before the plane lands? And what will it lead to? Penicillin and Butterfly Band-Aids by doeinstinct: Yuuri is sure that he really isn't that sick. Viktor and their children aren't so sure.

(after)life and love by thishasbeencary: After Yuuri died, he woke up to a bright, flickering light above him. And, well, yeah, Yuuri had heard the phrase that after you die you "see the light", but he was almost positive that "the light" didn't refer to an overhead lamp. Especially not the overhead lamp in Viktor Nikiforov's bedroom. Wait, no, what? Maybe this was heaven. Except, if this was the afterlife, why was Viktor acting like he didn't exist? And why was Yuuri's afterlife some creepy stalker-dream of him following around Viktor Nikiforov?

This is such a cool soulmate au?? 10/10 would recommend

ivan da maria (WIP) by c0rnfl0wer: Viktor never minded when human civilization built up around him, or when other spirits began sharing the waters with him. He easily dominated every tradition that the centuries presented; that was what he minded. No one wants to be known for tragedy. No one wants to be bound to loneliness and despair forever. No one wants to drag their beloved one down. Everyone wants a happy ending, even if it isn’t in their nature.

This is a Russian/Slavic mythology AU where Victor is a rusalka who sees Yuuri in the village one day. I’d recommend this if you’re into historical/ethereal fairytales or enjoy a poetic writing style. I was enchanted by every word and I can’t wait for the next update! (And I promise that the MCD warning is not what it seems at all. Do not let that deter you from reading it!)

Listen, I’m probably way behind because I just finished centripetal force this week, but it literally was so magical I can’t not recommend it! If you’re one of the rare fandom members like me who hasn’t experienced this beautiful, fun fic yet, then please read it. You won’t be disappointed at all!
