Week 30.2/52: July 25th - July 31st 2022 | KBBQ with Vicky! 🐵
Finally reunited with Vicky after postponing our meet-up 5 times for a month LOL it was the first time seeing each other since February! We went to eat dinner at Miss Korea BBQ and it was decently yum. We got the beef combo for two people and it was quite filling. A little bit salty but overall yum. It’s hard to cook and eat at the same time HAHAHHAA I’m never the parent friend who does the grilling but today I was (because I am technically Vicky’s replacement older brother - SORRY VINCENT) LMAO. The struggle is real. I still ate well!

The same Christmas, me and my brother woke up before my mum and dad and decided to “sneak” into the front room to open the presents. When we got to the front room door, the handle had been taken off the door and closed, so we decided to go around the back door, which was also locked. The Love of a Cat
Many people say that cats are evil, emotionless and incapable of love. As a cat lover I know this to be true. While they can be evil sometimes when they attack your feet at night, or when they decide that your leg makes a good scratching post. They definitely do have emotions, and they are most definitely capable of love.
I am the part owner of 3 cats and a dog currently. Each one holds a special place in my heart and I love them all dearly.
Mika, our little moggy was the runt of the litter, and when getting to pick a kitten, I chose her. She would be last to be chosen if she got chosen at all and I knew this. I was an outcast, and so was she. Now at 8 years old, she’s fiesty and grumpy, but truely one of the most loving cats, when she wants to be. When she doesn’t should could probably surgically remove an eyeball if she wanted.
Charlie is our baby. He’s fluffy and the stereotypical “Callander cat”. He’s the biggest softy in the world and you couldn’t ask for someone better to hold onto while you cry and ache. He’s not really a baby anymore at 6 years old, but he’ll always be our baby.
Robbie is our one and only dog. He’s what I like to call a “distinguished gentleman” and the best way to describe him is the handsomest boy in the world. He’s old and slowing down, but I know that in his heart, and in mine, he will always be that goofy puppy that got his head stuck behind the toilet, even at 13 years old.
Now comes someone slightly more complicated. Jessie started off as ours around 12 years ago, back when Robbie was newly ours after having belonged to my late uncle. We didn’t have Mika or Charlie, but instead the grumpy old man Tigger. Tigger was my baby sitter and put up with being dressed up and ridden like a horse. When we got Jessie he was about 13, and unfortunately due to lifelong depression had to be put down at the ripe old age of 15. Now if that doesn’t tell you that cats feel, I know what will.
Jessie came to Aberdeen as a stray. A gorgeous stray might I add. She appeared to have come from a well off family that looked after her. We don’t know what happened, and we never will. She could have been dumped or abandoned after she left the “kitten” stage. She appeared in the garden of a family friend. This skinny little fluff ball was taken into this woman’s home, but the cat that already lived there did not like her.
The poor little cat had to be moved again, this time to another friend of my mothers, whom she stayed with for a few weeks. Until the woman had to move into a flat that did not allow pets.
Already this cat had not had the best start in Aberdeen, being uprooted and passed on like a toy. My mother took her in, and we tried desperately to make it work. She was so small and weak, that we feared that our territorial beast of a cat would actually kill her if she made a wrong move. Robbie had no issue with her. He left her alone just as much as he left tigger alone.
The only logical this we could do was uproot her again, but this time she didn’t go far. She went into the home of my uncle, who owned the flat directly below ours. After her vet check ups and vaccines we discover that she was definitely a she, and that she was around two years old.
All it took was a few weeks of settling in, and this scrawny wee cat, blossomed into a healthy (if still scrawny) and loving cat. After all her passing around she had found a forever home in the single man that lived all alone and dreamed of finding the man of his dreams.
After getting Jessie (who was named after my great granny) he was happier. My uncle had suffered from depression for years, ever since his teens. This little cat brought something new into his life. She adored him even more than I did, and that was a pretty big feat. She would just stare up at him adoringly, even when he would yell at her for going to the toilet where she wasn’t meant to, or when he would trip over her. You couldn’t have asked for a better match made in heaven.
Jessie looked after him better than we ever could, because she could always be there, at his brightest moments and his darkest. He was an alcoholic. And a serious one at that when he relapsed but she stuck by that with patience and she loved him. She would lay on top of him when he passed out drunk, or curl in at his side when he needed comfort the most.
Even without official training, she was a therapy cat.
They were companions for 12 years until the summer of 2016. He had gone through and extremely rough patch, and even though we thought he would never leave us, or almost more importantly leave her behind. He did. He took his own life.
It devastated everyone when we found him, but nothing was more evident than Jessie’s devastation. She never used to make a sound. She would open and shut her mouth but a meow would never leave it. She only purred. The night she lost him, she yowled and meowed and whimpered louder than any one had ever heard. You could hear the heartbreak in her voice.
She refused to move in with us, and would stay in his home and wait for him. It wasn’t until November when we finally managed to get her up to stay for a night. She slept in the sink.
Now it’s March and she lives her, eats the food, has her own spots and even fights with the others. She has a new house but a familiar family. She’s not at home. And she’s not herself. She’s lost that adoring look in her eyes. Before you would take a step near her and she would start to purr louder than a motorbike gang.
Now it’s rare that she even purrs, never mind the noisy ‘keep-you-up-at-night’ purr. She’s not happy, but she’s content enough to stay. Just like us, she is grieving. She lost the love of her life and we know that she’ll probably never be the same again.
Even more than half a year later she sometimes stops outside his door, or her head pops up when the door downstairs gets shut like she’s waiting for him to come home to her.
You hear people talking about dogs that never leave their graveside, and that when they lose their owner they are never the same. Well Jessie is a cat, that loved her owner so much, that when he died, part of her went with him, her whole world collapsed around her. She will never know a love like it again in her whole life, but she will mend and gradually get better, just like we will.
Cats are not evil, cats have feelings, they care, and most of all, cats are capable of a love that’s just as deep as ours.
