Okay time to rip this crossover trailer to shreds. First the Grimm are no threat to the Justice League.

You cannot convince me that Superman will have any difficulty dealing with a Grim army. Add in Wonder Woman, Flash, and Jessica Cruz and it is basically over. Grimm arent even on Parademon level and those things are Apokolips cannon fodder that Batman can beat with ease. I know they see the Grimm are evolving to their weaknesses, but Kryptonite only works on Superman?

Wonder Woman is almost as strong as him and has almost no weaknesses, besides in her early days when you could beat her by tying up her hands but I dont think these grimm can consider that a great deal of strength. In Batman's contingenies for the JL, he needs to give Wonder Woman a "Phantom Opponent" aka fake construct of some sort like a hologram or a simulation to keep her locked in battle. No way any of these Grimm are doing that.

And as for Flash? Again, no Weaknesses besides plot stopping him! Unless those Grimm tap into the speed force no Grimm should be able to touch him.

I didnt see any yellow Grimm either so unless these things can somehow make Jess lose her will power they stand no chance. She has taken on way stronger armies, these glorified hell hounds dont stand a chance

I didnt mention them above so I'll speed run them cuz I still think the Grimm stand no chance. Cyborgs tech is way too immense and can adapt and upgrade constantly, so if the Grimm evolve so can he. Vixen and Black Canary are meta humans and can easily take on the Grimm cannon fodder, both hero's are around building level and are amazing at hand to hand combat. And as much as I hate how OP he is for being a rich guy with good tech

Batman can clear out these grimm. Not only does Batman have contingencies for every league member up above who can easily stomp these Grimm into black mist, Batmans no kill rule only applies to humanoids. Grimm are just animals on steroids, Batman is gonna be mercing them.

Like does the Leauge REALLY need team RWBY? Just call up the other members like Martian Manhunter, the 3-4 other Lanterns, Aquaman, Dr Fate, Shazam, the Hawks, Zatana, Constantine, the Teen Titans, or literally so many other people? If they say in the movie that the other members are across the world also dealing with this then thats fair. Not really cuz so many of these characters can wipe out these Grimm with ease! Grimm are weak! They aren't like something that can give the Teen Titans a run for their money!

My power scaling complaints really popped off huh? Okay whats next?

So they hype up Kilgores partner in crime who's supposed to be stronger and smarter. We get this shot which makes me think this is another simulation

But oh jeez I dunno who this potential secret villian is! Really it could be any RWBY villian who's a genius and has the color yellow as one of this primary colors. Oh! I know! Hazel! (pst its Watts)

Okay so Team RWBY got new powers to show off. Except Weiss. Yang shoots fire, Blake has staffs and shadow energy, and Ruby with her wooden Cresent Rose teleports.

And Weiss...

Yeah in both of her actions shots to show off her new abilities she's in her shitty V7 outfit and not using that stupid gun she's supposed to have in the cover.

One noticeable thing is that JNPR is just gone. They haven't been seen, mentioned, there's been no leaks on them, so I dont think they gonna appear. Im thankful that Renora Cyborg love triangle isnt gonna happen, but im also disappointed that the one good part of the first crossover, that being the Jess and Jaune duo, will not happen. You know I actually feel bad when I wanted to see Jaune on screen.

And im sorry but this is just choppy work when it comes to editing

This scene of the sea dragon comes out of the water and scares Blake, Ruby narrates and says fearfully "What is that?" And Blake as bland as she can says "They made a new Grimm". Im sorry but, if they made a new Grimm, why not show it when they say its new? Why show a Grimm from Volume 4? Just show the new Grimm!

Thank you! It actually looks cool! Except it shouldn't even be that scary! It looks like nothing out of the ordinary for team RWBY minus the Kryptonite, which shouldn't be an issue when you have WW, Flash, Jess, Cyborg, and everybody else who isnt weak to it.

And I hate that Jess just flies and shoot fire. I can tell this is as creative as its gonna get for her, the girl who's powers allow her to make ANYTHING!

All in all it's nonsensical. Its like putting Goku into My Hero Academia and expecting something to actually hurt him. The RWBY verse is not that strong, its just not. The JL who are arguable the strongest super hero team in all of comics, are not supposed to have trouble with these things. Now if it was the Teen Titans I'd believe it. But with the JL this is like Tuesday to them. They've fought the Legion of Doom, the forces of Apokolips, Gods new and old, whole Lantern Corps, demons and monsters, Meta Humans out the ass, and so much more. Hellhounds that can replicate their powers and weaknesses should be a cake walk. But somehow they're gonna nerf the hero's and make team RWBY the greatest hero's of all time! They're gonna save the Justice Leauge and the earth! They did everyone now clap! Clap and forget how those incompetent idiots doomed their own world!

I hate this. I hope this is the last RWBY project released. I feel bad for the animators who got forced to make this, I dont want it to flop so they dont suffer but FUCK do I hate this and want it to flop so bad it finally kills Rwby so I can stop seeing greenlight volume 10. The only hashtag more annoying is the restore the Snyderverse.

So yeah those are my thoughts. Cant wait to pirate this in October.

My Opinions on Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part 1

Okay so, I really loved this movie.

The characters were all great, the writing was well thought out, and they did a good job of incorporating the Justice League characters into RWBY's setting without either side really overshadowing the other.

it is more of a RWBY movie than a Justice League movie, but I think that's more due to RWBY having a single continuity to pull from, while the Justice League have to pull from several different incarnations and continuities.

The fight scenes were also pretty good, especially as the Grimm slowly but surely get more and more "glitchy" as the film progresses.

Now, there is one negative: The soundtrack.

The music wasn't BAD, just...

Forgettable.

Like, I didn't notice ANY of RWBY's leitmotifs at any point while listening to the soundtrack. There was a bit that sounded KINDA like Ozpin's leitmotif, but it played over a Jessica Cruz scene.

Ahem, that aside, I did like seeing Beacon rendered in Maya, and the fact that the simulation was based on memory actually helped make it feel more believable.

Oh, and Kilg%re was a fun villain! I'm glad they went for a more obscure DC villain as the Big Bad! I may have been spoiled on his villain reveal, but watching the movie with the knowledge that he's the big bad makes spotting all the hints pretty fun.

Anyways, I'm due to get Part 2 halfway through next month, and thus, depending on how the future goes, I might conclude this liveblog with part 2.

Okay this one threw people off a bit and I completely understand why. The broken heart because he's divorced and the two kids because he's a single dad of two.

She's a bat! She was in the army! She's a lesbian! We love her, we know her, it's Kate Kane!

Okay to be completely honest I saw that I had a magic sword 🗡️ emoji and immediately went "KATANA". I'm pretty sure I could've just done three swords and people would've got it. But yeah, black belt cause she's a black belt and the red circle because she has one on her mask.

The last two are 'Star' and 'Girl'. The first one is a staff. It's a medical staff which threw people off a bit but that's the only staff emoji I have so it worked in a pinch

So I was having a conversation with a bunch of Batfamily fans, and the discussion was that there are too many Batfamily characters, do you agree? Yes or No? And I was like no they aren’t a lot, it’s just DC don’t know, or have the resources to put every character in a book consistently, and if they did fans would get annoyed that it’s only Batfamily characters, which fair. And then it came down to who would you have in your Batfamily? And you only get 7 characters, and I was like, damn that is a hard choice, mainly because I had differing choices of who would be Batman, and the time period of the Batfamily, but like my current time Batfamily would be: Bruce Wayne as Batman Dick Grayson as Nightwing Barbara Gordon as Oracle Tim Drake as Red Robin Stephanie Brown as Batgirl Cassandra Cain as Black Bat Helena Wayne as Robin Now I know, what you may be thinking, ‘No Damian or Jason? Wrong’ And I would mostly agree with you. But, while I’m interested that Jason isn’t using guns or killing anymore I think it takes a big part away from him, in terms as a character, especially as Red Hood. And Damian.... while he is more popular than probably all the listed characters barring Bruce and Dick due to his exposure in media outside of comics, I argue that DC writers don’t really like him, as once one part of his character development ends he just reverts to killing and being Damian from when he was first introduced... and I wasn’t exactly fond of Damian back then. Plus, I think Jason works better as a character who died, as in he adds more to Bruce’s and Batman’s legacy as a kid who died. And Damian, I don’t know he’s Robin, but he’s also not? Well, same with Tim to be honest, although it’s more, he acts like Red Robin, kinda, but is Robin. Also, I like the fact that I picked Helena as I believe she is a character who could be great. She would be a great Robin, depending on the Batman as well, and it would mean you get a mainstream female Robin who isn’t from an alternate future or simply Robin for about 73 days and then killed off in a real shitty way, just to further a love interests downfall into self-doubt aaaand then retcon it four years later. Okay, so I’m not over War Games and Steph’s Death. But my Future State or just future Batfamily in general would be: Tim Drake as Batman Cassandra Cain as Batwoman Stephanie Brown as Nightwing Helena Wayne as Huntress Terry McGinnis as Robin And then add more characters, like their own kids or just introduce new characters, to fill the gaps that Bruce, Dick, and Babs would have left when they retire, yes retire, don’t kill any of them, or turn into... *Shudder* Ric Grayson. And I’m going to defend my Tim as Batman, as while he has always been depicted as evil if he did become Batman, except when he became Batman Beyond, I argue that’s when all his family is dead and has lost hope, but in this alternate reality he still has his older sister, Cass, his younger sister, Helena, his dad, Bruce, his brother, Dick, and long term love interest/best friend/possibly wife, Stephanie. (More than likely his love interest though, I can’t help myself) so I don’t think he would go evil, and his Robin would be an opposite to him so their dynamics and personalities wouldn’t collide.

With Halloween just around the corner, we thought it would be a perfect time to dive into the paranormal romances of Eternally Yours edited by Patrice Caldwell. We fell into the stories and found much to love. I think we avoided any major spoilers so feel free to take a peek into our group discussion even if you haven’t had a chance to read yet. If you know the stories though, we’d enjoy hearing your thoughts.

What are your impressions of the cover? 

Audrey: I loved it! It’s beautifully macabre, and I especially enjoyed the detail of the blood dripping off of one of the roses. I knew exactly what kind of anthology I was going to get when I saw the cover.

Jessica: Oh, I’m such a fan. It really grabs you the moment you see it. I’m listening to Taylor Swift’s new album and Anti-Hero is playing right now – and it pairs really well with the cover! 

Crystal: I really love the vivid colors and it’s such a great pairing with the romantic and the slightly creepy. It’s warm and chilling at the same time.

K. Imani: I absolutely love the cover. It’s completely romantic and gothic with such beautiful colors. It really sets the vibe of the anthology. 

Which story or stories really grabbed you and lingered in your mind after reading? 

Audrey: Such a difficult decision! There were so many good stories in this anthology. If forced to narrow down my favorites, I’d pick “Piano Sonata No. 13” by Kalynn Bayron, “Banes and Blessings” by Hafsah Faizal, and “Bride-Heart” by Marie Rutkoski. (I do enjoy a story with a solid body count! And each of these had some lovely but horrifying details/descriptions that stuck with me.)

Jessica: Same, Audrey. It’s so hard to choose; they were all so paranormally delightful! I’ll echo Audrey on saying that “Banes and Blessings” was a favorite of mine, too. I also really loved La Bruja y la Sirena by Anna-Marie McLemore – such gorgeous writing. And of course, I have to include a shoutout to A Thousand More by Chloe Gong which was just so much fun. It’s the kind of story I want to see adapted as a C-Drama. 

Crystal: I totally agree, it is difficult to choose. I too have “Banes and Blessings” in my top picks though and the piano story was quite memorable. Being a children’s librarian, the title “If You Give an Asura a Cookie” stood out to me and the story wasn’t as creepy as others, but it was a sweet one and I enjoyed that.

K. Imani: I knew this question was going to be asked so I kept a small tally as I read, lol. I really did enjoy all the stories but like Audrey, “Piano Sonata No. 13” was perfect as it was a romantic villain origin story and I was there for it. “Kiss the Boy” by Adib Khorram had me smiling the whole time, and “My Demon Prince Charming,” by Sandhya Menon was so wonderfully romantic. And Jessica, I agree that “A Thousand More” by Chloe Gong needs to be a C-Drama. I would love to see all the different lives of Tally and Nate. 

Stories like these really make me think about questions involving monsters. What are monsters and or how can we determine if someone is truly a monster? Were any questions like this bouncing around in your mind while reading?

Audrey: As you can tell from my favorites list, one of the ideas I found myself circling was violence and how it can be used to blur the lines between “monsters” and “good people.” Sometimes the violence feels entirely justified, sometimes it feels good in the abstract, and sometimes it’s the byproduct of some other outcome you want. 

Crystal: The question of monsters is an interesting one to me. So many times we are judging whether someone or something is a monster on looks or even actions, but we don’t always know the motivations. I think the determination can be better made when you know the “why”, but that’s the trickiest part to discover or understand. We default to appearances because that’s the simple path.

Jessica: Monsters often embody the “Other,” which is why I think so many people connect with monster stories that are nuanced or sympathetic to them and depict monsters with a dimension of humanity. (And as seen in Scooby-Doo, the real ‘monster’ in stories can be the human, whose monstrous behavior outstrips a real ‘monster.’ Sorry, yes, I had to bring up Scooby Doo.) Monsters often reflect cultural fears, desires, and violations of conventional (white, straight) norms. And that’s something that many people from marginalized backgrounds can connect with. The letter to the reader from anthology editor Patrice Caldwell speaks to the appeal of monsters so well and also points to an IRL issue – that of publishing declaring paranormal romance “dead,” ignoring the BIPOC and queer paranormal romance authors who were already writing in the space or who aspire to write in that space. 

K. Imani: One of the aspects I liked about some of these stories is of demons and other monsters falling in love too. Monsters are often depicted as soulless evil drones, but in reality “monsters” are just people with bad intentions. They live and love like the rest of us, so it was nice to see our so-called “evil’ monsters “humanized” in a way. And like Crystal said we often don’t know the motivation of others so often when we think of monsters doing evil things, they are often just trying to survive. Stories of “monsters” falling in love helps us see them in a different light. It was one of the reasons why I love “If You Give an Asura a Cookie” because the story really showed how “monsters” are just trying to survive in a human populated world, and deserve happiness too. 

Did you meet any new authors that made you want to find more of their writing?

Audrey: Kalynn Bayron was a new-to-me author, and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of her work. 

Crystal: Akshaya Raman made me want to follow up and find more of her work. Fortunately, there is a book in existence already, The Ivory Key, so I have something to look forward to sometime soon. 

Jessica: I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve had Alexis Henderson’s much-lauded The Year of the Witching on my TBR pile for a long time, but haven’t gotten around to reading it. Reading “In the Eyes of Angels” was the push I needed to pick up The Year of the Witching finally – and I’m so glad I did! 

K. Imani: Like Crystal, Akshaya Raman stood out to me too. Now that I know she wrote “The Ivory Key”, a book that has been on my list, I can’t wait to dig into her novel. 

Since we’re on the topic of paranormal love, have you read any novels with that topic that you would recommend? 

Audrey: The first thing that jumped to mind for me was CEMETERY BOYS by Aiden Thomas, which features a brujo falling for the ghost he accidentally summoned. I’ve also loved every one of Anna-Marie McLemore’s books that I’ve read, so check those out if you’d like some magical realism with your romance.  

Crystal: I too loved Cemetery Boys and Anna-Marie McLemore’s books. I would also add Cynthia Leitich-Smith’s Feral Nights or her Tantalize series. 

Jessica: Echoing Audrey and Crystal – Cemetery Boys and anything by Anna-Marie McLemore is a must-read. I would also include the YA graphic novel Mooncakes by by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu, which is queer and lighthearted and fabulous. 

K. Imani: Oh, where to begin as paranormal romance is one of my favorite genres! Renee Ahdieh’s quartet “The Beautiful” is on its third book and is a wonderful gothic-ish series set in New Orleans in the 1870’s. If you want more Merfolk, Natasha Bowen’s “Skin of the Sea” duology is a treat. The sequel “Soul of the Deep” just came out a few weeks ago. 

This was a fun read and discussion and we’d recommend it for anyone with an interest in paranormal love stories and those with an interest in the monstrous. Thanks for joining us!

okay so first of all do not feel compelled to reply this is mostly me getting my list in order and I probably will research later myself. Its just if you WANT to blabber about comics go ahead and use this as your excuse

I’m making my way through some DC rebirth in the hopes of catching up on whatever’s going on.

So far I’ve read (at various points)

first 8 issues of hawkman (was really only reading this because my friend’s a hawkman fan, so when they stopped reading I stopped)

first 4 volumes (so... 20-30? Something) issues of Green LanternS (with simon and jessica). planning on buying vol 5 and 6 soon

~30 issues of detective comics (stopped when i got bored)

first 4 volumes of superman (got bored around manchester black plotline)

first 6 issues of nightwing and then the nightwing must die plotline

first 12 issues of teen titans (got bored and it was just so weird with beast boy and raven aged down)

supersons

a few issues (like 3) of justice league after hawkgirl joins. I got really bored with the batman who laughs stuff

like 20-30 issues of wonder woman (got tired of it swapping present and past every other issue, if i want to read it again its gonna be on physical copies not DC Universe)

Brief Summary: Pam encounters Jess in the library.

Steel was one of the worst things Pam could think of. Awful steel buildings that had replaced all of the natural forests in the world. It made her sick just thinking about it. Metal was truly evil. It was hard and cold and completely inorganic.

So she’d been surprised, and maybe a little intrigued, when she saw Jessica reading a book about the evils of steel machinery in the school’s library. It didn’t necessarily make her want to go over. But she did hope to catch a glimpse at the inner pages…

“Pam! Is that you?” Jessica shouted, waving eagerly at the other girl. Everyone looked at her with narrowed eyes.

“Shh. It’s a library,” Pam urged. Well, now she had to get closer to Jessica, just so they could whisper.

“You are going to love this book I’ve been reading!” Even her whispers were loud. Pam wanted to just disappear. “I think it’s fascinating. It’s all about how cities have taken over the natural landscape. And one nature lover to another, I think you would really enjoy it,” Jessica said with a little singsong in her voice.

“Fine.” Pam held out her hand. “You can give it to me.” It did sound like a good book.

“Oh,” Jessica said, a bit deflated. “So you want to read it alone? That’s fine, really. No big deal, I was just thinking…”

Pam pressed her palm against her forehead. “Don’t tell me.” 

“I was thinking we could read it together?” Jessica continued, seemingly undeterred. “I would be happy to start over for you! Or we could even read it aloud…”

“No thanks. I’m good.” Pam turned to leave. 

“Oh, okay. I’ll see you later then, alright?” She could hear Jessica waving behind her back. The girl could displace the air with the force of her hand.

That was enough Jessica for one day. Still, she couldn’t quite understand why she had the nagging feeling that leaving meant that she was missing out on something that she wanted to do. She did not want to read a book with Jessica Cruz.

As she reached the door though, Pam glanced behind her back. Jessica had returned to her book, looking uncharacteristically deflated. And strangely, Pam felt somewhat disappointed too.

Bart started to fall in love with Jaime after seeing Jaime calm Milagro down when she got her ring (will do a fic on this if anyone wants it!)

“Anyone seen Beetle?”

The other Titans shake their heads, milling around before an emergency meeting. All Red Robin could gather for them was a Green Lantern had died and the ring chose someone else, someone on Earth, but there was a complication.

“Hey, guys.” Blue Beetle rounds the corner, armor already up, “Sorry, I’m late.”

“You’re here. All that matters.” Red Robin frowns, taking in his friend’s posture, “Do you want to know what the meeting--”

“I know what it’s about.”

“Jaime?” A small face pokes around the corner.

“C’mere, Mocosa.” 

The girl, no older than 11, shuffles forward. She has the same shining brown hair and tanned skin as Jaime, who wraps a protective arm around her shoulders. His teammates feel their hearts sinking at the Lantern emblam on her chest.

“This is my little sister, Milagro....The ring chose her.”

Jaime wishes they could have this meeting in any other room. The official meeting room had been built to impress and inspire all that came through the doors, which it does effortlessly...but his sister shakes as she recounts what happened.

“It came right at me.” She fiddles with the ring on her finger, “Jaime tried to pull me out of the way, but...it followed me?”

John Stewart’s the first to break the uneasy silence, “How old are you?”

“I turn 11 next month...” 

“This is insane.” Hal Jordan shakes his head. “Thai was the youngest in history, but...two kids this young...”

“What happened to the Lantern before her?”

Milagro blinks at Batman’s question, “B-before me?”

Jessica Cruz offers the young girl a soft smile, “Can I see your ring?”

Milagro slips it off and hands it to the Lantern. Without the ring’s glamour, she could be any other 5th grader. The Titans remember Jaime mentioning her interest in fashion and mechanics, which explains the oil stained pink jumpsuit. The Reyes siblings have similar looks on their faces. Like they’re waiting.

A glowing image projects from the ring, showing the previous lantern fighting. While the seasoned heroes watch the footage with barely a flinch, Milagro shakes more and more. Bart notices Jaime taking her hand and how tightly the little girl squeezes it. 

The rings doesn’t stop when the old lantern dies. The ring takes off through space to Earth to a house the Titans recognize. In the image, Milagro makes a face at her brother, who flicks motor oil at her in response. Everyone sees the moment the two notice the ring hurtling towards them. The tendrils darting out of Jaime’s shirt, wrapping around Milagro’s waist to pull her out of the way. The ring curves to settle on her finger...before the image fades off.

“Thank you, honey.” Jessica hands the ring back to Milagro, who holds it in her fist. “I think there’s a lot we need to discuss.”

“Titans,” Batman grunts, “You all are dismissed. Milagro--”

“Comes with us.” Jaime meets the seasoned hero’s eyes, unwavering. For a moment, most heroes wonder if the Big Bad Bat has had time to come up with a contigency plan for the beetle. After a moment, he nods for them to go.

The minute the door shuts behind them, Milagro bursts into tears.

“Hey, hey, hey.” Jaime kneels in front of her, armor retracting until he’s in his oil stained jeans and black t-shirt. Until he looks like any other teenager. “Mírame, mírame, what’s wrong?”

“I didn’t know someone died!” Milagro sobs, “I don’t want to die, Jaime! ¡Quiero ir a casa! ¡Quiero a mami y papi!”

The other Titans remain silent. They know how dangerous this life is. The friends they’ve buried...

Jaime wipes tears from his sister’s face, “I know, Mil. I know exactly how you feel--”

“No you do--”

“You’re scared,” Jaime interrupts gently, “More scared than you’ve ever been and angry. Angry because you didn’t get a choice.”

Milagro hiccups, letting him wipe more tears from her face, smudging it with oil, “How do you know that?”

“...Because I remember feeling the same way with Khaji Da. I remember how alone I felt.” Jaime had forgotten about his teammates standing nearby. None of them really register to him. He offers his little sister a small smile, “You’re stuck with me helping you, you little shit. Big brother rule number 1-protect your pesky siblings. I’m not fighting you on this.”

“...What if you go away again...“

“Well...guess you’ll have to come with me, huh?” Jaime offers her another smile, “Can’t save the universe without my Green Mocosa.”

That makes her smile, just a little, “Burro azul.”

“C’mere.” Jaime picks her up, like she weighs nothing at all. Turning to his teammates, he nods at Tim, “We’re going to head home. Mami should be off her shift. She and Papi are going to have questions.”

“Okay. If you need anything--”

“I know.” Jaime nods a good bye to the others before leaving. “We’re gonna be okay, Mil. I promise.”

“Promise, promise.”

Emotional questionnnnn: What if a superhero died (including Batman and Superman cause why not >:))?

Uhmm...I'm going to talk mostly about if they just witnessed the death of the others since I don't think I'm ready to unpack the emotional baggage of killing a friend. ( But if you also about a specific kill with specific details on how it happened you can bet I'll give you a specific answer.)

It's clear in the aftermath of Superman vs Barman that Superman's death would take a toll on the civilians. He's iconic that way, I think it would be especially hard on Kara. And it would be terrible for Gotham morale and Batgirl especially, if Batman dies while being a hero.

It'd be terrible if either hero died. Both are incredibly strong and intelligent. If either died it would mean a villain strong enough and reckless enough to simply murder any adversary.

It would be pretty scary to all if Superman died....after all Cryptonien's are supposed to be indestructible, no?

Kara would take the death pretty hard. In denial, probably. Insisting that there is a way to bring him back.

If one of the Invincibro's (yo bros) died then it'll hit hard.

It'll hit differently depending on the counterpart. And the situation.

For example, if Hal died both sides will mourn. And the Invicibros will be a mess (I suspect that Steve and Hal were co-captains, if anything Steve is a bit of a figurehead). Speaking of 'captain' the school, whoever knew the confident brunet will be in shock because Hal always seemed a little invincible. Many would mourn him since he grows on you....like fungi. Jess will be wrecked and she'd blame herself because of course she would. She was his partner, she should have been there. 'And oh gosh she was alone now, she'd have to defend the space sector alone. And even if she's assigned a new partner it wouldn't matter because they weren't an obnoxious, confident, self-centered Hal'. And yes, there will be a certain dampness in the atmosphere for both teams.

If Barry died both teams (the whole city even) would mourn. Barry was beloved as both Barry the dessert slinger and the Flash, superhero speedster. Barry was kind of the kindness of the group. The one who did good for no other motive than the fact that he loved deeply and wanted to keep everyone safe. The team would keep chugging along with this mindset...but I don't think they'd be able to eat at Sweet Justice anymore. It would hit Babs' hard because he was her best (guy) friend and they swore to have each other's backs (in my AU) and she didn't have his and now he's dead. I think the girls would prefer to just move their headquarters since Sweet Justice was painful enough to just think about.

If Carter died I'm afraid no one will notice. Hawkman's death will be acknowledged but not Carter's. Carter's death if given any attention at school would be a mystery much like he was. Same with Hawkman, his death will be mourned but he'd be considered a mystery death because of his quiet nature. This will drive the boys mad because Carter Hall was DEAD and no one seemed to care. How can they not realize that everything has changed? Carter was more or less the level-headed one of the group. It would be particularly terrible for Karen since Carter was big and strong and knowing he's dead? Yes...she wouldn't take it well. She'd most likely try to avenge him.

If Oliver died it would be a bit of a scandal. I'm sure he has quite the fan base as both an aspiring actor and the charismatic Green Arrow. He was always the *cue dramatic gasp* dramatic one of the bunch. His death will be, you guessed it, terrible. Since happy, confident, loyal Green Arrow was killed. The atmosphere around the team would tune quiet, if a little hollow but they'd keep chugging through since Oliver wasn't friends with quitters. And it would hit Zee differently because the last thing they did was fight (of course they did) and now he's dead and she realized that she had fun arguing with him and their rivalry made acting so much more fun and now how is she supposed to perform when her co-star was dead? When the idiot who would make rude faces behind the curtains and then grudgingly admit she did 'decently' was dead?!? It would hit hard because Oliver and Zee shared a passion and they both left a stain there. She'd forever associate her love for the stage to her complicated friendship with a dead actor. (I think she'd hate when in the future people forget Oliver Queen's name). The whole girl said would mourn but they didn't know Oliver as well as Zee and Zee's a wreck so they'd channel their grief into comforting her.

God help the idiot who murders Steve. If Diana hasn't already killed you, the team will. The Invincibro's, I mean. Steve is a bit of a figurehead so kill the queen and they will make it their life mission to avenge him. That is all after the grieving, of course. Steve will be mourned heavily by both teams, especially by Diana and the Invicibros. Diana will be confused at first because she never even thought that Steve could die. Never crossed her mind. She never asked for anything, wanted for anything, but she wanted him. Him to be alive. How is that even possible??! Jeez, I don't see much of him so that's all I can really say.

If Garth is killed well... Both teams will be horrified and heartbroken. It's just that Garth is so innocent and sweet. And he was killed. The whole school I think would notice because the football team will mourn (in my AU) him. The city might be a bit indifferent because despite his confidence he never demanded as much attention as his team. But the team will never be indifferent to it. The Invincibro's will be furious to hide the fact that they are wrecked because yes, Garth can handle himself in a fight but he was only fourteen. He had plans and he was their friend, goddamit. (I really want to go in depth about how the girls and guys would react but I'll resist.) Kara will react similarly because how dare they take her little brother away?? One thing is letting him handle himself when he's getting bullied but killing him?

Okay...this is a quick peek at how the team and counterpart will react to their death....now for the girls!!

(they are all killed, okay? No different or accidental deaths)

If Jess were killed the team would be a wreck, of course. Jess, I like to think, was the mom friend and medic of the group. The girls will mourn and healing will be hard. Very hard. They'll remember all the things she holds dear. I have no doubt they'll participate in protests like Jess has been bugging them to do when she was alive. The Invincibro's will be sad too, of course. Initially, then they'll be pissed. Won't rest untill they help the SHG defeat the killer. And Hal? He'll be feral, of course he would. He is very possessive and very loyal. He'd be in denial at first (they all would) because how can Jessica Fricking Cruz, passionate kind selfless Jess be dead?? That's not possible. She cared too much, had too much to do- she can't be dead. But I feel like halfway through his revenge rampant he'll remember that Jess was a pacifist and he'll...I dunno.

If Babs died the team will be swinging from horrified, to unbelieving, to furious. They'd be sad because Babs loved being a superhero and she loved helping people and now she was dead and- they'd be a mess. And don't even get me started on how Barry would take it. Wanna know how he'd take it? Very badly. Why? Because Babs is his best friend and his counterpart and he's supposed to watch her back and she's gone for real and this is terrible and he's so sensitive and everything is fallings apart it seems. He'll definitely be a little more jaded, a lot more protective and burst into tears when anyone orders a candy cake triple ripple tower with rainbow sprinkles. But then overtime it'll turn into a sad smile. Man, the Invincibro's will also be horrified since Babs was close to pretty much everyone.

If Karen died? Absolute pandemonium. The team will be equal parts blaming themselves and torn with guilt and sorrow. They will tear the world apart looking for a way to fix it somehow. Fix it the way Karen would have. The boy team, because despite all their teasing, will be in uproar because no one messed with Karen but them!! And Carter? He'll be at war with himself, because he should have protected her, the pipsqueak was too young and small and fragile to be able to hold off evil by herself and how dare she put herself in that situation? How dare she just leave them like that?? I feel like he'll be in denial for a long time, working through everything to avoid processing his grief but when it does it'll hit hard. Probably because of something small but subtle. Like getting electrocuted because Karen had quite a few fractal scars from her experimenting and super heroing. Or when he realizes he got stung by a bee- it's the little moments when it strikes deep.

If Zee died it would be a bit absolutely scandalous of course. Not only will the girls be horrified and heartbroken but so will Zee's fanbase as an actor and her father's assistant. The girls will have quite some time to even begin to adjust but soon enough they will jump straight into plotting their revenge. The boys will be livid of course but none more that her counterpart Oliver Queen. Oliver won't quite believe it, I don't think, he'll just think that Zee will just magically resurrect herself because the annoying actress who liked hogging his showtime couldn't possibly be dead. She was like a cockroach! No matter how many times squashed beneath your shoe those wretched little things will just come back. All the time...she couldn't be gone. And truly he didn't hate her, he just liked having a goal. To outshine Zee Zatara. So...how could she be dead? This will hit especially hard when he doesn't have a counterpart to fight with. Or when the leading lady role goes to someone new. Clear to say that Zee Zatara's death will be every bit heart wrenching.

If Diana dies be prepared for hell. The girls will fall apart with grief after avenging their leader. I feel that Babs would try to keep everyone together at least. The boy team will be furious because Diana was their battle plan leader too! And how- they'd be confused because how can the immortal Diana Prince die? The school would definitely have a service for the mystery top student. How would Steve react? He'd be horrified and lost, and confused but then he'd help the girls avenge W.W and live the rest of his life upholding Diana's values. (I'm not quite sure how he'd handle the grief.)

If Kara dies then there will of course first be the mourning (at least according to the show). Then the shock. Then the doubt because hasn't Kara 'died' before? And that would lead to hope which will make the moment of confirmation the most painful. For both teams. Garth will be completely blindsided with grief and anger because how dare they take his big sister? How dare they hurt moody, cold, rude at times, big softie at heart, Kara? And well I guess we'll discover that rage is also a prominent feature if the ocean, is it not? So yes, this will be an emotional rollercoaster no doubt about it.

This extra will be non-super hero's who will also mourn and attempt to avenge the lost one.

Diana- she is the princess of an island of immortal warrior woman. Her mom is 'a final boss'. She will have plenty of people to avenger her (not that she would want that, per say). I kind of have a suspicion that Queen of Amazon's will either be overly sympathetic ('my daughter has chosen her path, now we can only honor her') or furiously because they were part of her daughters dream that got Diana killed (may you pray we never cross paths again or I will curse you as you have cursed me).

Karen- not sure... but maybe her parents??? They can make a suit too??

Kara- Her cousin because family is family and that's period and she's like the only survivor who doesn't want him (genuinely) dead. And Alex, her step-sister- maybe.

Jess- Green Lantern Corp.? Dexstarr?

Zee- her DAD, remember they are super close and he's super powerful and yeah....

Babs- Her dad- who's like a cop and even though he shown to be extremely lazy I have no doubt that he'd drop the donuts to find out what happened to his precious pumpkin pants. Might even call I'm Batman. Harleen, yes Harleen who tried to murder Robin because he embarrassed Babs will definitely go after her best friends murderer (even after finding out Vans secret identity)

Okay for Steve and Carter I genuinely don't know.

Garth, I'm not sure but if he's actually underwater royalty than you can expect a whole lot of flooding, earthquakes and sea monsters.

If Bombshells ever returned, maybe to explore the aftereffects of the war. Here are some superheroines and supervillainesses that could join the fight into the new era. The Cold War.

Jesse Quick; Jesse would totally join the families providing their homes to the displaced Jews of Europe while at the same time protecting her city from all sorts of crime. But her storyline might come with learning that in her need to help everyone and solving everyone's problems since she has the technology and the privlege, well... kinda appears as a white savior. At least to Lisa Snart which brings me to... 

Golden Glider: Well I think we can all guess that Lisa has a Jewish-like last name and while her big bro, Captain Cold, Leonard was working with the Nazis, I am so arguing that he was just conveinately converting in order to save his skin and his sister's. Anyway with her brother in jail and Europe in shambles after the war, Lisa can travel to America with other displaced Jews. Some families were kind enough to "foster" these peoples which is where Jesse comes in. Well Lisa isn't the type to accept the "pity" and dislikes how priviliged a life, Jesse leads. Then comes a whole new yet classic Flash vs the Rogues rivalry.  

Nyssa ah Gul: How can we forget another misplaced Jew. Well not Jew but Ra ah Gul's other daughter, Nyssa, whose entire adopted family died in the concentration camps while Ra was off whatevering with the Lazerus Pit. But since Ra's long gone from the picture, I suppose Nyssa will have to seek answers from Talia about why she didn't try to help her or contact her after finding out they were sisters. 

Mya: Meanwhile after WWII, India is revving up for a revolution after being used and abused by the British Empire in a war they didn't even want to be in. And after being in the war, STILL treated like second class citizens. That's why Myra, prodigy of Shiva is up to lead a revolution for her people.

Gypsy: Let’s not forget about all the other groups that Nazis were prejudiced against. Cynthia Reynolds or "Gypsy" as the SS slurred against her and her Romanian family. But with Europe's landscape in disarray, Cynthia can use her earth-bending powers to help and educate people that she is more than the fortune telling, pick pocketing stereotype that the world believes.

Volcana: Now I know we didn't really get into Italy's part in WWII, but someone with volcano powers would totally be working in Italy, specifically Pompeii. The one issue is that, like in her origin story, she was working for Mussolini against her will and the Italian still wants their "super weapon" under lock and key in case of WWIII. 

Thorn: Meanwhile the late 40s-early 50s is totally not a time to be woman with a mental illness. Especially when the "understanding" doctors try to lobtomize you. So Roselyn Forrest's double personality disorder is a big problem in her life. Especially since her second personality is a scythe weilding maniac and her uncle wants to put her in an institution. Added to the fact that she is still suffering under Irish discrimination. Hopefully the Batgirls can help, not only change child labor laws, but views on mental illness too.  Giganta: A gorilla turned into a girl. Why shouldn't that be an experiment by the crazy Americans or Russians in a way to beat each other as the world superpower. Well technically the Russians wanted to send a gorilla into space and beat the Americans, but they thought a woman astronaut (or as they called cosmonaut) would make them look better. (All true look up Valentina , first woman in space). But besides being part of the space race, Giganta can bring spotlight to Africa where she was born, and which is being divided by the major world powers for exploitation. 

Crimson Fox: Constance D' Amis, French heiress would be part of the small army of woman workers during the YALTA conferance trying to get their say into how to rebuild Europe for the benefit of all. Who knows, maybe she even talked to Selina Delgatti. Hey French heiresses and Italian heiresses must know each other. Plus she expels hormones that can make anyone under her thrall which leads me to...

Queen Bee: Another pheromone expelling woman. A villainess though. Africa wasn't the only one being exploited and colonized. The former Ottoman Empire was being exploited for its oil and Lebenon is taken over by the French (Basically ample reason for Constance to go to Lebenon and fight Queen Bee). And the former queen is certainly not above going to the Russians to fight the US/Europe to get her country back. Or just team up with Lex Luthor to take down Supergirl and get her country back. I just imagine Lex and --- to be like an evil Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet okay. All suave, witty banter. It makes sense in my head.

Catherine Colbert: A bit like Lois Lane, Catherine is an everygirl. Well if the everygirl was a daughter of an dimplomat and had her sights on making a name for herself in NASA and trying to avoid the pressures of mysgonistic men that woman aren't fit for government. Being told that she is too emotional and should stay in the kicthen, Catherine rebelled by becoming a stone faced, cutting ice queen in the diplomacy track and also a horrible cook. Artemis and Cheshire: I'm taking a bit from the YJ story in that Artemis and Cheshire are half-french, half-Vietnamese. Since their abusive father was loyal to the Nazis, he disowned them and cast off their Vietnamese mother in Japanese concentration camps. While Artemis made it to America and tried to stay on the good ol American democratic way (while fighting petty looters in the streets of Gotham as one does), Cheshire went to Vietnam where she works as an assasin, for the communists and the non-communists. It doesn't matter to her as long as she gets paid. But times are changing in Vietnam as the fights about communism between the North Vietnamese and South escalate. 

Lady Blackhawk: Zinda Blake, hero of WWII and the Blackhawk brigade comes home to nothing. No money. No pension. No respect. Life as a veteran has no perks since no one has money to pay in Europe. Plus she'd still be trying to adjust to civilian life after nonstop combat and the inevitable PTSD while the Germany she loved is split into two. Hopefully Rudi and Helen will help to keep her in a safe place until she can get back on her feet.  Miss Martian: While I don't know whose in Harley, Ivy and Viktoria's circus, I feel like Miss Martian would find a safe haven there. While she did not experience the WWII, she did experience a similar prejudice and genocide on Mars being a white martian so I bet she can help with reprations. Or just join Starfire on the fire squad...wait nevermind. Fire is Martian weakness. Well at least have her and Starfire being alien girlfriends exploring the strange Earth world together.

Rocket: Again, haven't had the joy of reading the final vol of Bombshells United so I don't know exactly what Bumblebee has been up to nor the racism she had probably experienced. But Raquel would be in a similar boat. An African American teen in an unjust pre-Civil Rights movement society with the added difficulties of teen mom hood. I really want some spotlight on her whether she joins the Batgirls or strike out on her own or helps Icon just like in the comics.

Mercy Graves: Alongside Lex wherever he is, I want a similar debut to what Mercy did in JL. Mercy takes over LexCorps during Luthor's absence, absolutely crushes it and makes it more of a success than Luthor ever did because she is not obsessed with the Kryptonian heroes. Maybe she even teams up with Waller? Who knows? Or even have two heads, Mercy Graves and Lena Luthor, making millions and making plans, evil or no, always ending on top.

Silver Banshee: A woman whose screams causes people to age. How they could NOT use her in a war, I do not know. But I picture Siobhan's arc going something like after her family dies in battle or something or other, she taps into her genetic banshee powers. Fueled with grief/cynicsm/vengeance she travels around the Iron Curtain, causing death since death is a mercy compared to living in destitute misery.

Plastique and Roxy Rocket: One is a Canadian explosives expert, another just really, really loves rockets. Both would be very useful on either side of the Cold War. They're traditionally illanesses so I could see them as double agents like Cheshire, working for whoever pays the most for their time.

Roulette: Roulette’s big thing is gambling on illegal cage fighting activities. Well lets up the ante by having her big gamble being stoking US/Russian tensions. How did you get into comics?

ooh okay sorry for this being a little late tumblr only notified me today :)

What got me first into superheros as a whole was justice league unlimited, and j'onn was like my favorite from there, and I watched all the DC animated shows but I didn't really read comics for the most part. I wanted to but just never did. Around late 2018-early 2019 when I joined tumblr, I'd started following dc blogs specifically for like the characters I knew from the animated shows, and upon that I'd heard about the new Martian Manhunter solo coming out, and like, that made me really want to find out where I could read it/get it. Because he was my favorite, and I had to read that comic for him because of that. And then while I was waiting for it come out I'd heard about the Green Lantern run that had ended in 2018 with Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz (jessica specifically drew me in because I was really going through a lot with anxiety at that time and hearing about Jessica was like.. I had to read it) and I'd always found gls interesting, so I decided to start from the beginning. And I loved it. And then I began reading the Manhunter solo when that came out.

And then from there I followed more blogs, found out abt reading lists and started reading comics. So like that's kinda what happened! Essentially got into comics because of J'onn!

Weak of Heart

I'm a guy who loves a great legacy character. Cassandra Cain, Jaime Reyes, Jessica Cruz, and Helena Wayne, are favorites. Ben Reily, Kate Bishop, Robbie Reyes, and Carol Danvers, are also worth mentioning on the Marvel side of things. Hell, Laura Kinney is top ten all time for me. When you want to extend the mythos and shake up the continuity, bringing in a Legacy character is a great way to do that. If it's done properly. When it's not, you get Riri Williams. I don’t care for Riri Williams. The fact that Ironheart is getting a show chaffs me to no end, man. Now, before you label me ass a self hating black person, i need to be clear; I don’t like Riri because she’s a non-character Mary Sue, not because she’s black or a replacement for Tony Stark. Riri has the dubious honor of being the poster child for lazy, woke, virtue signaling, comics of the early Tens that plagued the industry. Cats, especially at Marvel, were more interested in pushing agenda and forcing diversity rather than writing dope stories. I can;t say that all of those narrative were sh*t because i did enjoy a few. I rather liked the Mockingbird run but i assume i am in the minority on that, considering all of the ridiculous discourse around “Ask me about my feminist agenda.” Admittedly, i didn’t evade the sting of this whole virtue signal renaissance as my darling Carol Danvers became this total b*tch with a dude’s haircut around this time. For me, Ms. Marvel was one of the best things about that Mighty run of the early Aughts but, you know, superheroes can’t be hot anymore because of Patriarchy or some sh*t even though they are, legitimately Olympic level athletes with bodies to match but okay. I’m getting a little off-topic here, my point is that Ironheart is the worst of this super-woke stunt writing and i hate her for it. he most frustrating thing about all of this? It’s worked before.

Kamala Khan is a similar Legacy introduced around the same time as Riri If i remember correctly, she predates Ironheart by a few years and was met with similar resistance from the fandom. Being very much Pakistani and very much Muslim, Kamala got ALL of the xenophobic, racist, and islamaphobic hate. It was very transparent how f*cking dumb that sh*t was but, over time, she’s developed into kind of a bullet proof character. Seriously, she had a great run in her own book and really rounded out as the leader of the Champions. Kamala Khan is one of the most well written, fan friendly, representative charters in comics, and she earned every bit of that shine. I, personally, don’t care for Kamala, i finder her personality grating, but i understand the merit of who she is and why she’s important. More than that, i see how well her implementation and pushes worked for her. Ms. Marvel has seen all sorts of success outside of the books. She’s had a ton of appearances in various cartoons to varying success but got the nod as the POV character for the once lauded, now derided, Avengers game. They did her dirty with that but I've heard that her game play is pretty fun. Kamala is a success story about how you diversify your pantheon organically, successfully, without it coming off as pandering. There is only one character who has had a better rise in the zeitgeist and is arguably the genesis for this brand knew age of representation first in comics, whether that be for better or worse.

Miles Morales is, unquestionably, the reason we have characters like Kamala, America, and Riri. He predates them all and has had the most success as the Spider-Man of 1610 after Pete died. People HATED Miles when he first swung though Brooklyn. It was vitriolic. Incandescent. And i understood why. Spider-Man is Peter Parker. That’s who he is. Miles didn’t even have his own origin story, it was literally the same spider that bit him. A good deal of the hate had to do with Bendis as well. We were knee deep in his whole “Make all the heroes black” situation and it was wearing thin. He had positioned Luke Cage and Spectrum as principal powerhouses of the Marvel Universe and it just wasn’t there for those characters. He didn’t do the work to make those characters compelling, especially Luke Cage. He wrote Cage as a power fantasy for himself, i imagine he wants to be black more than anything, and it was incredibly transparent. Cage went from a D-Lister with roughly Captain America class strength, to a primary Avenger with Hulk class strength, over night. That’s corny. Miles got the same treatment but to a lesser extent. He didn’t get his shine until other people came through and cleaned up the mess Bendis left of the character. A decade on, and Miles has been accepted has the best Spider Jr. out there, earning clout with the best Spider-Flick released to date and a principal role in the best Spider-Game out there. In the books, he’s developed into a solid character, different from Pete in a ton of ways, but familiar in all the ways that count. More than anything their relationship is dope as f*ck. If Kamala was the first, real, success, then Miles was the dry run to get there.

Riri Williams has none of this development. None of it. She was in the Champions book, too, right along with Kamala and Miles, and she still sucks. Hell, Kid Nova, Sam Alexander, also makes an appearance in that book and i forgot he existed until i wrote this sentence, but even he has more of a character than f*cking Ironheart. Sam is f*cking adorable. He’s had a ton of crazy adventures and, for a while, was literally the only Nova around. He was the Kyle Rayner of Marvel and the kid did a great job with that. When Riri Was the only Iron Man, she was indistinguishable from Tony. It was so bad, her AI WAS Tony. That’s how little faith Marvel had in the character after her introduction. Kamala, by this pint, had her own solo and Miles had been Spider-Man in Ultimate comics for, like, four years or some sh*t. Riri couldn’t even be Ironheart without Tony having an intimate role in her “independent” book. Sh*t was whack, son, and that’s my point. Riri Williams, Ironheart, is not a character, she’s a PR move and that sucks because the bones of something really compelling are there to be explored. Riri could have been dope especially if she had the room to grow Kamala and Miles. Riri had every opportunity to be the Marvel version of Ahsoka Tano; A brash, brilliant, reckless apprentice to the seasoned veteran hellbent on training her to reach the potential that only he sees within. Riri could have been written with the most depth, the most growth, of these diverse replacement heroes but none of that happened. Riri is the same f*cking character she was when she was introduced. There’s been o growth, no change, and her armor is ugly as f*ck. It’s a goddamn shame because i adore the idea of Ironheart but that execution leaves a lot to be desired. I hope the writers under Feige do the character justice. I hope they find a way to make Riri compelling, to make her whole because the potential there is staggering. It’s unfortunate that no one at Marvel Comics knows how to properly actualize it.

Finding Peace In Another Part 24

Saturday night, Bailey and I ventured out to school to go to the game. “Can I drive?”

“No. My car, I drive.”

“Ugh fine. Can I drive on the way home?”

“I’ll think about it.” Not freaking likely Bailey. He whistled as we pulled up to the school.

“I didn’t realize there actually were different buildings at American high schools. How do you know where you’re going?”

“Same way I did back home. Trial and error. And friends giving me directions or walking me to class. What did you think I meant the other day when I said they helped me out when I got here?”

“I don’t know.” We began walking to the football stadium. “Is it just me or is everyone staring at me?”

“Not you. Her.” Cyrus said, popping out of the crowd. “Name’s Cyrus.” He nodded to Bailey.

“Bailey.” He nodded in return, “why are they staring at her?”

“She’s dating Montgomery de la Cruz. People are going to stare.”

“I didn’t think he was ‘stare at his girlfriend’ bad. Becca, what did you leave out?”

“Nothing important. He just… tends to have issues dealing with his emotions is all.” I explained. Bailey stopped in his tracks and grabbed my hand, his expression hard and his eyes cold.

“Issues?”

“Not with me. I was serious the other day. He wouldn’t lay a hand on me.”

“Fucking better not.”

“If it makes you feel better, I don’t like the guy but I really don’t think he’s the type. To hurt women, I mean. He pretty well keeps his outbursts restricted to guys.” Cyrus added, quickly.

“Good.” Bailey said, putting an arm around me, out of habit. People did double takes but when I flicked him in the face gently, they lost interest.

We made it to the bleachers and found decent enough seats. The girls next to us, noticed the stranger in their midst and stared at him a moment, blushing, before turning back to each other and giggling about how cute he is. I know he’s cute. Before one girl could make a move, I cut her off. “He’s with me. He’s my best friend. He isn’t from here and he isn’t staying, trust me. It’s not worth the trouble.” The girls looked shocked and Cyrus burst out laughing. Bailey looked astonished that I would prevent him from whatever “moves” he could have made.

“Did you see that?” He asked Cyrus.

“Dude don’t worry about it. You dodged a bullet with those two.”

“Oh?”

“Blonde doesn’t understand the concept of a one-night stand and the brunette doesn’t understand ‘not my type’.”

Bailey shivered, “thanks Becky.”

“Bailey! What did I say about you calling me Becky?”

“I know, I know. But you love me so you can’t do anything about it.”

“I could call Jessica and tell her how much you miss her.” I challenged. He gulped and squeaked.

“I take it Jessica is not missed?” Cyrus asked. I bent over laughing.

“No. Psycho tried to pin a pregnancy on him a year after they broke up.”

“I didn’t do so good in science, but I do remember that you have to have sex with someone to get them pregnant and also pregnancy doesn’t last a year and a half.” Bailey said. I looked out at the crowd still gathering and waved at some of my other friends.

“Think you can use some of that dating an athlete privilege to make them move?” Cyrus asked me, leaning over Bailey.

“My what now?”

“Dating an athlete privilege. You’re dating Liberty High top end of the food chain. You get special privileges because of it.”

“And how do you know this exactly Cy?”

“I hear talk.”

“Right. Uh, I can try I guess?” I shrugged. Cyrus leaned back to watch the show and tapped Bailey to do the same. “Excuse me ladies, would you mind moving somewhere else?” I asked politely. They each raised a sculpted brow at me. Bailey coughed, but I could swear I heard a “firmer” in there. “Do you realize who I’m dating?” I raised a brow back at them. They sat for a second trying to place me, when they did, their eyes widened, and they immediately stood and stepped up to the next row. Cyrus laughed and slapped my knee; Bailey joined in shortly after.

“That was the greatest thing I’ve seen all week. Did you see their faces?”

“If I knew you could have had that kind of power at home, I would have pushed for you to date an athlete a long time ago.”

“We didn’t go to school events. You don’t go to school events.”

“I know but if you could have made people move, I might have.”

“Hey Becca, Cryus. Uh… Stranger.” We heard Alex say near us. We all turned to him.

“Hey. Did you want to sit?” I offered, scotching over some.

“Sure.” He said, sitting down. He turned his attention to Bailey. “Do I call you hat?”

“Depends, do I get to call you cardigan?” Seriously thought he was going to say cane.

“Alex.”

“Bailey. I’m in town visiting Becca.”

“Oh cool.”

“It was a surprise visit. I got home from school the other day and he was sitting on my doorstep.”

“Sneaky. Zach mentioned something about picking your friend’s brain.”

“He did. I told him all sorts of things about her. I’m told he’s my replacement, so I had to give him many details.”

His comments drew my attention. “What exactly did you tell him Bailey?”

“Stuff.” He smirked.

“What stuff?”

“I’ll let him fill you in after I leave.”

“Bastard.” I huffed.

“But I’m your bastard.” He said, pulling me into a close side hug.

“I suppose I’m stuck with you.” I sighed, overdramatically.

“That you are.” He laughed, kissing the side of my head. I felt Alex and Cyrus’ eyes glued to our exchange.

“Before you jump to conclusions, he’s just my friend. He’s almost a brother to me.”

“This is purely platonic. We’ve been best friends for years.”

Cyrus shrugged. “Okay, whatever works for you guys.”

“Does Monty know how close you are?”

“Yeah. We talked about it Thursday and again this morning. After they covered me in waffle batter and flour.”

“And you smothered him in Nutella.” Alex made a gagging motion to Cyrus.

“Not like that you perv. I swiped Nutella across his face.”

“Oh. Okay.” He nodded, obviously not really believing me. I shrugged.

Our discussion bounced from topic to topic after the game started. Truthfully, I wasn’t very interested in what was happening on the field. I was only there to be supportive to my friends and my boyfriend. It was a close game. So close in fact, that we only lost by a two-point conversion. I pulled out my phone for the first time all night right as the game ended and texted Monty, I’m sorry sweetheart. If you can wait until Tuesday night, the consolation sex will make up for it, I’m sure. I added an I love you but quickly deleted it before hitting send. It’s not the right time to say it nor is it something to say via text the first time.

Monty responded around twenty minutes later, I guess I can wait. Are you coming to Bryce’s tonight? Bailey is welcome to come. I realized then, that I hadn’t thought of my… incident… all day. “Hey Bailey, you feel like going to a party tonight?” I hope he says no….

“Will there be alcohol?”

“I assume so?”

“Then sure.” Fuck. I sighed discreetly before texting back, he’s down.  I don’t know if we will stay long though.

That’s okay. See you in a bit, babygirl.

“Shall we?” I asked, as I stood up and grabbed hold of my bag.

“Yeah, sure. It was nice meeting you guys.”

“You too.” My friends replied.

We walked arm and arm back to my car. As I was grabbing my keys, Bailey spoke up, “can I drive now?”

“Is this still my car?”

“Yes?”

“Then no.” Bailey pouted at my response but got in the car anyway.

I zipped home and parked in the garage, figuring there was no point in parking at Bryce’s and then driving home from there. It would take more gas to turn on the car than to get home. I made a quick stop in the house for a lighter sweater and to drop off my purse. People were already milling around the front yard when we arrived. I stopped briefly at the front door, trying to rid my brain of thoughts of what happened the last time I walked through this door.

“Becca.” I heard Scott call from the living room. I shook my head slightly and waved at him. Monty was walking towards him, but when he saw me at the door, he redirected to walk in my direction.

“Hey beautiful.” He said, pulling me against his side. He shared a nod with Bailey.

“Hey handsome. What are you drinking?”

“I’m not entirely sure. Something mixed with some kind of vodka, I think. Zach made it.”

I furrowed my brow and reached for his cup, sniffing it. It didn’t smell too offensive. “Can I have a sip?”

“Sure.” He replied, handing me the cup. It wasn’t that bad. A little heavy on the vodka but not horrible. I smacked my lips together a few times, trying to place the flavours.

“I think it’s apple juice and peach schnapps.” I looked at Bailey and watched as he looked around the room.

“You realize this is like a six-million-dollar house back home, right?”

“Yeah. I think mine would be around four?”

Monty coughed. “Four million dollars?”

“Yeah. Our housing bubble never burst, so houses are super expensive. What would cost one or two hundred thousand here, would cost four to five there. It’s stupid.”

“Fuck. How do you afford to live there?”

“Renting. Even though that’s stupidly expensive too. Everything is more expensive in Canada.”

He shook his head and took my hand, leading us to the kitchen. “Pick your poison. You want a beer Bailey?”

“American beer? No thanks. I’ll just let Becca mix me something.”

“I was going to go with a vodka cranberry, do you want that? I know you don’t drink apple juice, so I won’t try to hunt down Zach.”

“Sure.”

After I mixed our drinks, the three of us went off in search of the rest of our friend group. I spotted Justin and Zach talking and called over to them. They waved for us to come and chat.

“Vodka, apple juice, and peach schnapps?” I asked Zach.

“How did you know?”

“She’s still got it.” Bailey laughed, high fiving me. The boys looked at us, confused.

“My friends used to mix me drinks and stuff and make me guess what was in them. I was right most of the time. Oh, and Justin, this is my best friend Bailey. Bailey, this is Justin.” They waved to each other.

“So, you used to be fun?” Scott asked.

“I’m still fun. Right Monty?”

“Yes. You are very fun.”

“Your boyfriend saying you are fun doesn’t count Rebecca.” Zach chided.

“Fine. I’m fun, right Justin?”

“Hey now. Don’t drag me into this.”
