I'll Protect You From the Nightmares

Wooooooooooooo! I got something done!

"N-No! Stay away!..," Naomi cried before a boom of thunder caused the little girl to shoot awake. Her breaths were short and fast and her gaze hazy from tears as she took in her surroundings. The same bookshelf filled with stories and their missing pages on the floor. The same nightlight that barely worked anymore. The same 4 toys that she had since she was an infant. The 5 year old too everything in before her nightmare came back in flashes, causing her to hug her ferret tight.

"It was just a dream... you're a big girl now!.. you can handle it!," she started as another boom of thunder shook the resistance base. Naomi looked at her plush before a grimace came to her face, "Ok, maybe not that much of a big girl yet.."

Naomi quietly left her bed and wrapped her blanket around her before finally taking her plush into her arms.

"Let's go find papa, Captain Rider," the girl mumbled before venturing out into the vast corridors of the base to find her father.

She moved quickly and silently, which was rough for her since her nose kept running and having her sniffle, till she caught a glimpse of her father's striking red markings and the blue fabric that masked his eye.

The little girl stood in awe of her father as he meditated. Leonardo Hamato, the leader of the resistance against the Kraang army. He usually seemed stressed or cold, but seeing him with a soft expression as he meditated was a side of him she didn't get to see often. Naomi soon crawled over to Leo, sitting herself next to him as she laid her upper body in Leo's lap. He soon opened his eyes once he felt the little girl lay on him.

"Aren't you supposed to be in bed?," Leo asked jokingly as he looked down at the girl, once he saw her tears, however, his gaze softened a bit more. He took the little girl into his arms before leaning back against the wall and letting Naomi's head rest against his plastron, "Do you want to talk about it, princess?.."

"I had another nightmare..," Naomi mumbled as she hugged her ferret tight and laid her head against Leo's chest, trying to focus on his heart beat to help calm her down. "Was it the one with the scary man again?" Leo asked while his hand ran up and down the 5 year old's back to help soothe her a bit more. Naomi gave her father a nod before closing her eyes, her mind slowly calming down and drifting off as she enjoyed the comfort of her father.

"Dad!..."

The crack of thunder made the girl jolt awake, her thoughts only being interrupted by her hitting her head against the bunk above her. Naomi groaned as she rubbed her forehead and took her surroundings. The same dresser that sat across from her bed. The same ladder that led to her friend's bunk. The same nightstand where she left her hearing aids to charge. The 14 year old sat up, thinking about her nightmare before he4 eyes locked on the ferret plush sitting on her bed before taking it into her arms. It was all patchwork by now, but one thing stayed the same, the writing on its paw that read "Stay Strong, My Princess." Naomi read the words over and over before tears filled her eyes, knowing she couldn't run to her dad for comfort yet still feeling his warm embrace as the lines played in her brain like a broken record.
