here are some very random martial arts headcanons for some of the jjk characters bc why the fuck not. btw yes i am aware that most of them practice more than one style of fighting i just think that these are smth that they'd really like as well!!!!

toji likes brazilian jiu jitsu – he got into that a bit later in life, he did more hand-to-hand combat training when he was younger but ever since he discovered brazilian jiu jitsu, he's been obsessed with it. he can use his size and his strength, and his whole entire body and that makes him feel very confident. he's very good at those on the ground throws,, like when he's being pinned down, he always manages to literally toss the opponent off of him and then immediately put him in a hold. it looks incredibly easy when he does it lmao

satoru likes muay thai – HE LOVES DOING SHIN KICKS idk he's so into them. he looks like a maniac when he's fighting btw he's constantly smiling and it's a little scary (it's very hot). since in muay thai there's a lot of elbow and knee hits too you can get very up close to your opponents and i think this is also something he really likes!!!!! mmm during fights he also likes to rile his opponents up lmao

suguru likes wing chun – suguru is the only one i struggled with assigning just ONE style bc i feel like he's veeery very into different types. but wing chun is very fast and it involves punches and slaps and just redirecting the hits coming your way,, wing chun fighters always look so calm while doing it and idk i really think this could be his thing. honorable mention goes to aikido!!!!!!!! he likes it when he doesn't have to hustle around too much, he likes it when he can just put somebody in their place with a mean little grin on his face.

sukuna likes kickboxing – he's all abt that raw power. he loves throwing punches and he's very similar to satoru in the sense that he too, looks like a fucking freak when he's in the ring. they both love the adrenaline so fucking much. in contrary to muay thai, kickboxing has more leg kicks, sooo you can keep your distance a bit more but he's more than fine with that bc that way he can truly show how hard he can hit lmao he has an insane right hook aaand he also really loves doing high leg kicks:333333

megumi likes judo – takes after his dad:3333333 he trained a lot with toji when he was younger but since toji rarely let him win it was mostly just little gumi being a grumpy little sea urchin lmao the fighting styles are both mostly abt grappling and ground work buuut while jiu jitsu is more abt making the other submit by putting them in a hold, judo is more abt throwing ppl around and megumi really likes that. it makes him feel really strong. (he likes to stare down at his opponent after he's just gotten the point i think he can be very mmm cocky sometimes lmao)(he learned that from toji)

yuuji likes wrestling – HE'S THEE BOY EVERRR!!!!! ofc he works out a lot but he's got soo so much raw strength and he loves it when he can put that into use. he's won like SO many competitions lmao i think he's very lighthearted abt the fights though and he has literally no beef with anybody (kind of like hinata yk?)(others definitely have beef with him though bc he's so stupidly strong lmao) he's very concentrated during the match but the second he's won he's got a bashful big grin on his face!!!!!!!!!! he enjoys the sport a lot a lot a lot!!!!

nobara likes taekwondo – IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she loves it and she has been practicing it ever since she was little. she loves kicking and punching she's very energized all around!!!! SHE GOES TO COMPETITIONS ALL THE TIME TOO!!!!!!!!! oh and she and yuuji are constantly sparring despite the fact that their styles are so different lmao (yuuji will get his ass beat bc he's kind of.. afraid to throw nobara)(but then gets called a 'pussy' bc nobara says he should fight her with all his might)

i looooveeee everything abt him tbh, but i think probably the thing that makes me the most fond of him is that he reminds me a lot of myself in the way he processes things and makes decisions, sorting them into good or bad

hmmm idk if it’s my top fav thing abt him but i love his technique and the way he uses it. especially the shadow inventory and when he stores himself in it? so cool. ig its more when he sets his mind to it, he’s crazy powerful. underrated fr.

HELLO ROLLY!!!! I LOVE <3333333 YOUR FRAT STEVE BLURB!!!!!!! fictional frat boys are my weakness omggggg. this struck the exact tone i'm looking for in any college au, mainly that it reads like an early 2000s teen cw show!!! this was so excellent and really scratched that part of my brain!!! i could literally hear bowling for soup playing at the party, and could see the fried straight hair and smoky glitter eyeshadow the reader did to the party, as well as the hollister shirt she wore paired with a tasteful fur boot. also i loved tim's drawl i also love southern accents so this just hit every mark for me!!! is he from friday night lights?? if so i might tune in just for him omg!! i am giddy and excited with a stupid cheesy smile plastered on my face!!! the satisfaction of reader not letting steve fck her over again (at least not yet), is delightful. i can see the slow shot and close up of her face as she said that last line, and the we-re-breaking-up-because-i'm-tired-of-your-bullshit ballad playing as she slammed the phone shut. ugh. i love this so much omg i really, really do.

“Whadda I tell ya Master, no one can defeat the greatest man-slayer of Bakumatsu!” Izou cheerfully proclaimed while pouring another glass of sake, face already flushed from the previous rounds of drinks. 

“Of course,” you smiled warmly, “I know your talent well, Assassin.”

Both of you were celebrating a recent victory on your couch, sake bottles and various snacks strewn about the coffee table in front of you. It was a bit into the evening, overhead lights turned off in favor of a few lamps strewn about the living room. The radio hummed quietly across the room as you poured yourself a drink. 

Izou downed his glass with great fervor, placing the empty cup on the table as he gazed over towards your form. You were smiling that beautiful smile with a fondness in your eyes that he wasn’t used to. He never understood why you treated him so well, after all when he was alive he was treated simply as an object of violence. 

“Say Master, why aren’t ya scared of me? I thought man-slayers were fearsome creatures that everyone hated.” he spoke with an uncharacteristic softness as his golden gaze bored into the empty sake glass. 

You tilted your head to the side as you pondered, “Hmm, well I suppose I was a little frightened at first, but that was mostly ‘cause I was nervous to make a good impression.” you giggled. 

His eyes widened, no one had really ever cared what he had thought or believed before. It was astonishing to believe that the Master that summoned him valued his opinion so much that they would be self-conscious. 

“Y’know, I was never too fond of Master-Servant relationships, ‘was betrayed too many times in life by those above me.” 

The expression on his face was mixed as he spoke, pouring another glass while avoiding eye contact with you. “They saw me as a pawn that they could toss when they were done.”

“Well, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ll stick by you ‘till the end.” you responded, reaching out your glass to him. 

The corner of Izou’s mouth tugged up into a smile as he returned the gesture, clinking your glasses together. 

“Besides, I really like talking to you, and I think you’re a good person at heart. You just weren’t given the time to show it.” you added quietly, feeling your face heat gradually as you spoke. 

Izou’s face turned pink as you laid your feelings on the table, mind racing as he processed the implications of your words. He turned his face to the side so you couldn’t see the blush growing over his cheeks, “W-well, all I can do is kill people,” his head lowered as his tone became melancholy, “that’s about all I can really do for you, Master.” 

You shook your head viciously, “That’s not true at all! You can do so much more, I know it.” Your gaze flickered to his large hand on the couch, distracted by the thick veins running up his toned forearms. 

“Also, please just call me (y/n), Master just doesn’t feel right after all the shit we’ve been through.”

“Well okay, then (y/n),” Izou smiled slightly as your name rolled off his tongue, it felt so natural and right. “But I’m serious ya know, I’m just a killer, and not a very bright one…” he mumbled.

You snuck a glance to the servant sitting next to you. 

He looked absolutely stunning, with his wavy black hair released from its usual ponytail allowing it to fall over his broad shoulders. His yukata was looser than normal, giving you a slight peek at his toned chest. 

With the alcohol giving you extra courage, you took a breath and reached for his hand to place yours on top delicately. 

He seemed to flinch at the sudden contact but didn’t pull away, his face only growing a deeper shade of red. 

“Mas- I mean (y/n), yer gonna give a guy the wrong idea if ya do that...” 

You looked him directly in the eyes and responded firmly, “You’re more than you make yourself out to be, I’m dead serious.”

Your fingers curled tighter around his hand as you scooted closer, legs almost touching. “And… what if that idea isn’t wrong?” 

You felt his hand tremble as he slowly faced his palm upwards to lace your fingers together, his face and ears now fully engulfed by the blush. The room grew hotter, and you weren’t sure if it was because of the sake. 

“Ya serious?” he breathed shakily as he mustered up the courage to turn towards you fully. 

You nodded while your stomach did somersaults, biting your lip before mustering up the courage to ask “Can I… can I kiss you?”

His brain had now fully short-circuited as the words left your mouth, unable to tear his gaze away from your adorable nervous expression. “I-I uh um, I mean, yeah. Uh yes. Please.” he stumbled over his words. 

Your lips met in a shy, soft kiss, the thundering of your heartbeat in your ears drowning out the radio across the room. You felt like you were ascending in joy, the only thing that kept you grounded was the tickle of his stubble against your face. 

His hand slowly came up to cradle the back of your head to deepen the kiss, which you took as an invitation to wrap your arms behind his neck. The taste of sake and magical energy danced between your lips as your bodies drew closer with you on top of his lap. You felt large hands snake hesitantly around your waist, as if he was scared he would break you. 

As you pulled back slowly, you savored the image in front of you. 

His face was fully flushed, with a soft emotion in his eyes that you’d never seen before. 

You giggled as you brushed his bangs behind his ear so you could see both of his golden eyes. “You’re so cute Izou, how could I not fall for you?” 

The assassin almost looked like he was about to cry, burying his head in the crook of your neck as he fully tightened his muscular arms around your waist. 

“God, ya can’t say stuff like that to me.” he murmured in your neck. 

“My heart can’t handle it.”

You carded your fingers through his wavy locks as you hugged him closer. He seemed to lean into your touch, eyes closed in pure bliss as you played with his hair. He had never felt this safe and loved in his life, and the foreign feeling almost frightened him. 

You leaned to press a soft kiss on his forehead, “Well that’s too bad, you’re gonna have to get used to it.” you grinned. 

Izou was in pure heaven, sake and snacks long forgotten on the table as he melted into your warm affection. 

“Let’s jus’ stay like this forever.” he mumbled. 

“I wouldn’t want anything else.”

You groggily opened your eyes as beams of light shone through the blinds. The sun shone across the glass of the sake bottles, sending rays of colorful light bouncing around the room. 

You felt the steady rising and falling of a chest at your back while thick arms enveloped you. Izou’s body was flush against yours as his breath tickled your ear, quiet snores rumbling against your back. You simply closed your eyes as you sunk back into the couch, savoring the warmth of his body.

The assassin behind you began to shift as he awoke, stretching out a bit before snuggling you closer. 

“Mornin’…” he sighed in your ear in a groggy, husky tone. 

“Good morning Izou,” you responded, “Hey, y’know I was thinking about something…”

“Hm?”

“I think I know what I want to ask the Grail for now.”

He propped his head up on his arm and gazed down at you with curiosity as you turned to lay on your back so you could look up at him. 

“I want you to have a second chance at life. I’d wish for the Grail to give you a human body so we could be together. No more killing or fighting, just a peaceful life where we do laundry and taxes and bicker over silly things.”

The boldness of your statement caught up to you, and you began fidgeting with your shirt to avoid eye contact. “I-I mean of course it’s only if you want to… sorry if that’s too weird…”

Izou looked astonished while you spoke, brows slowly furrowing as his eyes darkened. “But, I don’t want you to waste something that important on someone like me… you could wish for anything you want.”

“But I want you, more than anything.” You faced him and placed a hand on his cheek and stroked his face, feeling the rough stubble under your delicate fingertips. 

His eyes softened and quickly filled with warmth, “Oh God darlin’, I’d love that, so so much.” he whispered, planting a loving kiss on your cheek.

the second golden bolt tournament premiere review/analysis 🔩

Welcome ladies, gentlemen, and gentlethems to the first of many Battlebots episode reviews and analysis. I was going to do a liveblog but I feel asleep not even half way through and I finished the episode earlier today. If you haven't seen the new episode I highly suggest you do, there's a lot of things that went down and its just a good premiere and episode, but if you haven't you might wanna scroll. (also this is going to be a long one who prepare your nuts people YES I MEANT WHAT I SAID.)

Anyhow LETS GET IT ON, *BRO*

First of, I wanna start with the changes with this show and the differences between this season and the last one. The most notable one is the removal of the matchup with the gatekeeper from the last season. I thought they were going to reveal it in the end or make it so that the final competitor standing does not know who they're fighting until near the end, but no! They don't even mention it beforehand at all in the episode and the last bot standing instantly goes to the finals. Idk why they removed it, I THOUGHT THEY WERENT BUT I GUESS NOT?? Based on the little clips they showed at the start they showed Will Bales, and I thought this was because Hypershock was going to be a gatekeeper for this season but IDK THEY REMOVED IT?? I do kinda miss that aspect of the show because its what made it more interesting for sure but it did really caught me off-guard with it. Maybe Hypershock will be in one of the brackets? Or maybe they just won't compete at all. Idk, its just something I thought was worth mentioning because I couldn't really find it being discussed anywhere. Also I love Kenny's Key and their.... interesting connotations. Aside from that there's no big changes, so let's get to the fights themselves! SHREDDIT BRO! vs Skorpios - Wow. Whoever predicted Shreddit Bro was going to come out like Minotaur on this one should be given an gold medal WHAT AN OPENING FIGHT. Idk what Evan Arias did to the robot before this but they're looking like a beast out there. The Bro™ was so dominant and all over Skorpios the full fight, if you showed this fight to someone who's never seen the show they'll think its some top tier contender for the title. NO ITS JUST SHREDDIT BRO AND THEY JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE- also I just realized Zach look kinda as his bot was being counted out UEUEUEUEUE I WANNA GIVE HIM A HUG :( YOU TRIED YOUR BEST PRODUCERS JUST REALLY FUCKED THEM OVER BY GIVING THEM A DRUM </3333333 Overall great opener, really good start for Shreddit Bro.

Rotator vs Terrortops - Idk if I have much to say about this fight as much as the last one, but Terrortops didn't do too bad here, they survived a while against Rotator which is not easy. But yeah, this was Rotator's fight to win and its pretty satisfying seeing them be so dominant again.

Switchback vs Kraken - WOAH YOU GUYS IT WENT TO THE JUDGES HOW SHOCKING! Yeahh Kraken got pretty beaten here, I realized these two are pretty similar in design but Switchback just kept delivering the hits. I don't have anything else to say except good performance from Switchback and this is Matt Spurk's TENTH loss in a row since Rusty jabbed Kraken's face out. Like that is just brutal. SOMEONE GIVE THIS MAN A HUG AND A GOOD OPPONENT PLS </333

Valkyrie vs Ominous - I'm starting to see a pattern here that all the winners had something to prove and has mostly really improved since last season. I thought Ominous would've held on a bit better because of that big plow but yk. yeah. SHREDDIT BRO! vs Switchback - Okay if Minotaur and Shreddit Bro doesn't happen in season 8 I'm rioting. BUT ALSO Switchback, yk in the first 5 seconds WASNT DOING BAD and then he lost the chain. At that point The Bro™ the starting chewing away at him like he was Minotaur. SERIOUSLY HOW? BUT ALSO IM REALLY IMPRESSED. Like I love how this episode was just full of twists and turns and the fandom were collectively shocked at how out of nowhere their wins and dominance are. LIKE THAT LAST HIT WAS INSANE and usually Switchback's pretty durable and bulky. I think if they can figure out a way to protect the wheels, maybe some armor, and get their weapon to not hit the floor, they can be a force to be recon with. (also ik what I described is basically Minotaur but listen let Evan cook okay.) This was the fight I started becoming a Broliever one would say. I believe in the bro that brolieves in me. ooh yeah gottem. (im not mentally stable someone help)

Rotator vs Valkyrie - We all knew producers were going to hype up this rematch and it did not disappoint. Both robots held up really well against each other but Rotator's plow was a really good choice. I do think that Rotator would've had a chance if they'd boxrush them, but otherwise Valkyrie was winning this. Credits to Lucy for staying aggressive and if there were more time I think the plow and side armor would've been completely ripped out. I do prefer the first fight but this fight was still really good.

Okay. That was a lot of fights. But lets take a break and get on with the AWARDS!! First off, the Excellence in Sportsmanship went to Rory Mangles of Monsoon. I didn't know who he was at first but when I was looking through Reddit and seeing the stories, yeah, this guy deserves it. What an absolute chad. This did get me thinking, with this award and the Founder's Award, it got me thinking that these awards can now be awarded to an individual person and not just a full team which is really cool. Now onto the Most Destructive which NOT ONLY DIDNT GO TO SHITTIDE BUT WENT TO MY BOY HUUUUUUGE!! WOOOOOOOO YEAHHH BABY!! THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!! ahem Okay seriously I thought it was either going to Shittide or Copperhead 100% and I understand why ppl would be surprised at this BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING WE TAKE THIS W. EAT SHIT ETHAN. Onto the Grant Imahara: Best Design Award goes to RIPperoni and honestly I didn't see it going anyother way, maybe except Horizon but theyre design wasn't performing well, so RIPperoni was really the only pick. And finally, the Founder's Award which goes to Martin Mason! HONESTLY REALLY DESERVED he is the spirit of the sport and overall he just seems like such a great guy. Good for him. Good for him. Now, with all that aside, its time for the finals.

SHREDDIT BRO! vs Valkyrie - Coming into this fight I wanted The Bro™ to win because of their story, but Valkyrie really did good by breaking their drum, but Evan did amazing trying to adapt and get Valkyrie to break their spinner. Just shows that even when Evan is being this cool guy character he's really smart and tactical. I'm so excited for what's to come from this bot and congrats to Evan. Good for him. Good for him.

This episode was a really good start to the season and next weeks episode is a really stacked lineup. I personally think Black Dragon, and MadCatter or Whiplash are my picks for the finals but I'm personally rooting for my boy REESE EWERT FROM FUSION LETS GOOO REESE FUCK THEM UP!! As for SHREDDIT BRO!, I think they lose against Sawblaze, a pretty good chance against Tantrum, and 50/50 against End Game. THINK ABOUT IT we live in a timeline where SHREDDIT BRO has a good chance at beating the former champions. LET THAT SINK IN THE DOOR. I do kinda think the pacing was kinda off this episode but overall this is a really good start to the season, a solid 8/10 episode for me.

this has been sitting in my askbox since september and im really sorry anwsering took so long, but ive been trying to articulate how the last few chapters/last episode made me feel and im still not sure, because there have been so many bizzare choices made by both asagiri and the ppl behind the anime i still cant wrap my head around it fully (this got stupid long sorry)

starting with fukuzawa, i made a post a while back talking abt how i was assuming he was going to die/why it'd make a lot of sense, and there were really two main reasons for that; 1. he hasnt had anything interesting to offer for the story for a while and 2. his ability actively stops other important characters (mainly atsushi and kyouka) from further developement. the first thing is now gone which im pretty happy with! i love fukuzawa a lot so it's nice to see him finally have a purpose in the main story and im excited to see where it will go (also fukufuku you will always be famous to me <3333333), but the issue of his ability is still very much here. ive seen ppl theorize that all men are equal is just him lying and there is no ability but i honest to god would hate that, bc it would seem like such a shallow twist. atsushi's conflict with the tiger is central to his character so if it suddenly got revealed that a huge reason why he's even capable of using his power is just placebo "believe in yourself" bullshit i think i'd tear my own hair out. so im still thinking fukuzawa may get killed at some point, esp with the position he's been put into now and how much he seems to not want it.

and as for the "chuuya was never a vampire" fiasco, i honestly have no words, it was so unbelievably bad. ik there's been a ton of posts about how "its actually good" bc fyodor's death was caused by his inability to trust, and dazai's belief in his allies is what put him at an advantage, which is nice yeah, but it doesnt change how fucking stupid of a plan that was. if their goal is to kill fyodor, why not do it in that flooded room? fyodor escapes solely bc chuuya gets him out but if he was concious the entire time why not just leave him there? why continue to pretend? im usually not a huge fan of getting angry over plot holes when the narrative and themes are whats more important, but this is just so blantantly stupid. it feels like asagiri just wanted a plot twist for a plot twist's sake. mersault in general is so poorly constructed as an arc (dazai communicating via his heartbeat,,,, give me a break) but at least you'd hope it would end in a way that makes you excuse all of that, and then it doesn't. i think this post sums up how i feel about this than i ever could

and the fact that its december and we are STILL behind the fucking anime asagiri be so for real. it's easy to see now that the constant half chapters and short releases were a deliberate choice to have the anime catch up which i dont love, but fine, whatever. but now??? what the point of half releases? these chapters have been ready for a long time, and there's no way asagiri and the editors and whoever else is involved arent aware of how frustrated the readers have been for years now. the only explanation i can think of is that maybe the manga will have a different arc conclusion and ctheyre trying to idk, make it seem like we're following the anime closely? idk this shit is so stupid

overall this past arc or two have been bad, there are some elements that make them enjoyable still, but there is no theme consistency and overreliance on cliff hangers (that ppl still somehow buy). it feels like there are no stakes to the story, and that's really bad. maybe it's why i was hoping for fukuzawa to be killed alongside fukuchi idk, it'd finally feel like something is changing

on a brief positive note i quite enjoyed fyodors death, weird catholic freak, ofc nikolai is cradling your arm like this. i was a little suprised to see fyodor killed just yet (bc he always needed to die for the story to be able to wrap up eventually), but given the jesus quote, he may as well come back in some way tbh

Layla is such a college girlie, she's like 19-20 and sleep deprived (same fr); begging for her to catch a break on behalf of uni students everywhere. I don't have a set age for Faruzan, I can see her anywhere from 30-40, 26 years old minimum (the redesigns people give her where she looks visibly older are so cool <3). Given she was a pretty well known researcher back in her day and since academia is a long and arduous career choice, I think it makes sense; also if she's like way older than Kaveh appearance wise (≥ 10 years) , even if she hadn't gotten trapped for a century, that would be sick af (their dynamic is impeccable and I think a larger age difference makes it better, sweeter, and funnier). Nilou also feels 19-20 years old to me; no real explanation, she just has a young adult vibe, like someone just out of her teenage years but quite capable at managing her life, although still testing out responsibility for major decisions and stuff like that (age solidarity w yun jin)
