Even if mileven is endgame, this is still a fact that PROVES how this ship doesn’t work by its own, it NEEDS another character’s lies to keep going.

okay, i was just rewatching season 4, and i realized something, remember this scene in the airport right in the beginning of the series? Mike says “i handpicked those for you in Hawkins” most likely he got those from the field that we also saw in the end of this season, and the one of the very first scenes in season 3. now, i was watching the very last episode, and the very last scene, and i noticed when el was walking forward, she picked up dead flowers, specifically the same colors Mike got her as a gift back in the beginning (yellow and purple). this means the fall/deadness of their relationship, because as we already know, they are NOT on good terms. i mean i really tried to like their ship, but i just cant see it without being toxic, and having communication issues for example: El felt the need to lie about her life and Lenora, and how she had friends, and everything was good. why would she need to lie? shouldnt they trust each other and tell each other things like this? And back in the beginning when Mike tells Lucas that they dont want to be popular, and the airport scene when El says that she wants burritos for breakfast, Mike says something like “really? no i mean i trust you,” that scene to me meant that Mike was very awkward, and not acting like himself. and not to mention but Mikes outfit was not himself AT ALL. Argyle says “oh no its a shitty knockoff,” meaning again, that mike is acting like someone hes not in front of his girlfriend.

now, i wanna talk about the roller rink incident, because there is a LOT more stuff going on then what it seems. so basically Mike and Will are fighting while trying to find El, and Will says “well what about us?” and Will DID NOT mean this romantically, but Mike took this romantically?! Will meant it as “Ok i get it, you have a girlfriend, but what about our friendship?” Mike took it as romantic, which is why he said “We’re friend! We’re friends!” and the fact that he said it two times is also insane, and his tone of voice when he said it was so tense almost. when people in other shows/movies say they are just friends, they most if the time end up as an endgame couple. for example: the office, Jim and Pam, they both had crushes on each other throughout the first seasons, but oh look they were an endgame couple, and even got married. what im trying to say is, Mike took it romantically, when Will didnt.

And another thing with this fight, is that as soon as Mike said “We’re friends” the song “in the closet” started playing, and some people think “oh its because Els in a closet” which yes, in a way, but it was an employee’s shed. and also this song started playing RIGHT AFTER Mike assured that they were “just friends” little sketchy right? And i also just wanted to point out that after Mike said that, he saw Wills face and immediately knew he made him sad, and we can see the tension in his face almost disappeared.

now right after the skate incident, El, Mike and Will were all standing there in a triangle if i may point out, but anyways, we can see Will reacted normally, he said “oh my god..” but Mike reacted very aggressively towards it. and the camera pans over to El sitting alone at a table, and Mike and Will are right next to each other. really quickly, i wanna point a few things out. when angela takes el onto the rink, we can see Mike not care, hes just like “meh” but Will knows, so he stands up and says “oh no” which directly after he says that, he stands up so quickly, but this is weird for me. because Mike can sense when something is wrong with Will, but not El. because we see that when angela comes over to the table they are sitting at, it is very tense but Mike doesnt really notice, but Mike notices when something is wrong with Will almost IMMEDIATELY. and this is proven back in s2. so Will is closing his locker and Mike says something like “come on” and Will looks worried or even tense, and Mike immediately notices, because he says “what” many times and not to mention in his soft voice that he only uses for Will. so i think this means Mike understands Will and Will understands Mike.

i think this might be foreshadowing to the break up to Mike and El in season 5. so, once again. BYLER ENDGAME!!

milkvan could have been good if it was just written well but it’s not. i don’t watch tv shows just to follow a couple that’s been together since the beginning, i wanna see tension and see that relationship build up to smth, i wanna see them fight before they’re ever together, before they ever kiss. it’s literally just so boring, the most copy and paste relationship you could put together. they don’t even look good together, their chemistry is off romantically and hard to look past especially after s2 (i still don’t really see the appeal unless s1 was a stand alone) and just… it’s overall bland in comparison to every other couple that comes up in the show. even stancy had more zing to it than milkvan and i hate stancy. eden and argyle had better chemistry. suzie and dustin are cuter and we’ve never even seen them in the same room together cause they lives in different states. like i literally can’t explain how little i care about mike and el romantically and it literally doesn’t help that they decided to throw in that will also likes mike. like damn, i’m tired of it fr and i cant wait for them to finally and officially breakup so we can just get on with byler fr

like everyone can ship whatever they like i don't even care but you cant look me straight in the eyes and say that if byler isn't endgame then will's storyline can still have a GOOD conclusion when his feelings have canonically been used to further another romantic storyline that doesn't even stand on its own

it doesn't matter what you personally want as your endgame, saying that since will sacrificed his love for other people without even directly confessing it then it means that his arc is over and now he only needs to be happy for his friends who are in love and find someone else to have a crush on without even confessing to mike is WEIRD

how can you think that just "recognizing that his love is unrequited and moving on" is his whole arc when he went through that IN THE THIRD SEASON already. that's when he made peace with his feelings for mike and realize nothing was gonna come out of it. that's why he destroyed castle byers (among other reasons)

and not having a direct confession MAKES NO SENSE

you can't depict a love so strong like will's love for mike and not even having him confessing it like wtf. and a confession in the last season means that both he and mike will have to confront that, and since will has already given up on his love, because he thinks mike will never love him back, there's only one thing that can come out of it without it being extremely anticlimactic or just pathetic and sad. like that's the thing, if they had him confess in this season i would've said "yup that train has left the station my dudes" BUT THEY DIDN'T

so yeah ship miIeven whatever, but at least recognize that if that's the endgame then they fucked up big time lmao and not just will's arc but also mikes and els

im just letting you all know that s1 literally established that Mike’s feelings for Will went beyond friendship. That they had a special bond. Mike and Joyce were the two people that cared THE MOST about finding Will. Mike literally convinced Dustin and Lucas to look for Will. Mike let a random girl he found in the woods STAY AT HIS HOUSE INSTEAD OF SENDING HER AWAY (like he said he would) JUST BECAUSE SHE SAID SHE COULD HELP FIND WILL.

s2 further pushed this because yeah maybe Mike spent 353 days trying to call El on the walkie talkie, but he literally NOTICED EVERY SMALL THING ABOUT WILL ACTING DIFFERENT. FUCKING CRAZY TOGETHER HAPPENED? HE WENT TO WILLS HOUSE AND BEGGED JOYCE TO LET HIM IN. HE STAYED BY WILLS SIDE AT HIS HOUSE, SLEEPING ON HIS FLOOR. HE LITERALLY TOLD WILL HE WAS A SUPER SPY AND HELD HIS FUCKING HAND. HE STAYED IN THE HOSPITAL/LAB WITH WILL EVEN THOUGH HE WAS FUCKING POSSESSED AND TRYING TO MURDER EVERYONE. HE WATCHED THEM TRY TO EXORCISE IT OUT OF WILL WITH HEAT. HE TOLD WILL THAT ASKING HIM TO BE HIS FRIEND WAS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WITH NO BACKGROUND NOISE OR MUSIC AND NO ONE ELSE EVER IN THE SHOT. HE LOOKED JEALOUS WHEN WILL DANCED WITH THAT GIRL AT THE SNOWBALL, LOOK AT THE SCENE. HIM AND DUSTIN ARE MAKING THE SAME FACE. ALSO ITS BASICALLY HIM AND JOYCE WORKING TOGETHER TO HELP WILL??

s3 looks like a shit show but IT HAS HINTS. The mall and movie scene with Lumax? Lucas said he was spending romantic time with Max… with Byler? The way Mike KNOWS Will is feeling something in the theater. the way Mike uses his Will voice. THE WAY THEY BOTH BLUSH? Also we can see Mike and El not being very into each other outside of just kissing (which El takes the lead in, ironically). The way Mike is with Will (and lucas) the entire time after lying to El and after she broke up with him. The way Mike looked at El confused when she broke up with him, but made his way across town in the rain to find Will and apologize. The best hint in s3? “Not Possible” and “I love you, too” scenes. Mike’s SMILE when Will says “not possible” to joining another party?? Come ON. Then right after that, his entire awkward demeanor with El. from the rambling about Christmas, to when she asks him if he remembers what he said in the cabin. Then when she says she loves him and kisses him, he stands there with his eyes wide open and he looks shocked. he looks confused, and even after she leaves he looks lost. When the moving truck is pulling away he looks absolutely devastated, but he still looks a bit confused and extremely lost. When he’s hugging his mom, he looks like his whole world crashed down on him. As if he hasn’t been fighting off monsters for the past two years, it looks like Will leaving crushed his entire spirit.

s4 was just so gay it’s not even funny. I’ve talked about Mike in s4 before so I’ll try to keep this short, but my guy’s room. One Way sign pointing to his closet. Buff men on posters. Cmon. The way he dresses fits him a lot, and he seems comfortable and happy in it, but the moment he’s in california he’s wearing the most heinous thing i’ve EVER seen in my life. Bro really said “fuck i gotta play the straight boyfriend roll!!” and threw together an outfit blindfolded bc he clearly can’t pretend very well. He is barely paying attention to El once he notices Will, but then acts all “hey dude broooo can’t hug that’s gay” with him?? As if he didn’t hold this mf so tight and sobbed before he moved away?? Rink-O-Mania was basically Mike staring at Will but never talking to him, then getting mad at Will for not telling him his girlfriend lied to him and being all sad the whole day (after his gf got publicly humiliated in front of the entire rink, even the DJ was in on it) Then got mad at his GF for rightfully sticking up for herself? Cant even WRITE his GF that he loves her. Fights her on THAT and calls her ridiculous, but apologizes to Will for their argument. Tells him he didn’t deserve any of it. Tells him HAWKINS ISNT THE SAME WITHOUT HIM (which basically confirms that Mike was so devastated at the end of s3 because of Will leaving, not El). Then the rest of it is mainly two gay boys pining after each other up until the junk yard (idk there were lots of cars, maybe grave digging scene is better, but i’m thinking of after digging when they’re sitting on a car) scene, where Mike literally says he should’ve just said the words she wanted to hear cuz maybe he’d be with her. He doesn’t love her, he just wants to make sure she’s safe. as he does with all the people he cares about. Then the van scene, the boy is literally staring at Will with heart eyes. He smiles so wide when he unrolls the painting, and he looks disappointed when Will talks ab El. Back in Hawkins when Will is talking about Vecna, Mike literally stares at Will like he did in s2 when Will was talking about the Mind Flayer and being a spy. He grips his Shoulder and says “we will.”, mmm parallels “he won’t”. the shoulder grab parallels the hand hold.

Added bonus: Notice how in every single season after s1, somehow El is separated from Mike, and he spends the majority of his time with Will?

In conclusion, Mike Wheeler is a boy kisser and he’s been head over heels for Will since he asked him to be his friend!!

analysing the fuck out of byler rn (this took like 3 hours and also was done on google docs sorry for the random ass punctuation and grammar inconsistencies)

first we are gonna touch on the Byer’s phone line always being used so Mike only gets to call Will sometimes. But from what Dustin said, Mike was complaining about it constantly. We also know that Mike and El spoke through letters and the radio because of the government listening in on phone calls (and El is supposed to be dead). So Mike and Will’s primary way to communicate is via phone calls, but Mike was unable to reach Will most of the time.

Let’s just hammer in this very important piece of the puzzle: Will believes Mike is deeply in love with El.

Will thinks Mike is not calling and ignoring him because he’s more focused on El. He believes Mike just doesn’t care about their friendship anymore. However, because of this, Will also didn’t try calling Mike. This creates distance and tension between the two, but they also are completely unaware of the actual issue at hand...

...thats a mega miscommunication moment. Now it’s also Mike who thinks Will is ignoring him. The difference is, Will doesnt have a significant other to be focused on. Mike just thinks Will is ignoring him or pushing him away (Will mentions “el” (he’s talking about his own actions but under the guise of El) pushing mike away in the van scene. But i’ll talk about this in the van scene part). This makes Mike act passive aggressive. Not only does he ignore Will at Rink o Mania, he picks a fight with him too

When Will says “Oh no” when El is with Angela, Mike immediately stands up beside him. He has no idea that angela is picking on el. The reason he stands up SO QUICKLY is because hes alone with Will and Will said something. Look at mikes face after will says ‘oh no’. Like……… ??????

The rink o mania fight (going to tie this to the van scene)

“You should have told me she was having trouble”

“I didnt know she was lying to you.�� 

Being a douche and ruining an entire day out apparently entails “rolling your eyes, moping and barely talking”. Not the fact his gf just got publicly harassed and is now unable to be found. Mike is focused on Will, the guy he was “ignoring” all day. He had his attention on Will the entire time instead of El. HE NOTICED HIM ROLL HIS EYES???? BRUH

“Shes being lying to you all day” “i feel like a total third wheel”

“What about us?” Will does not mean this romantically. He thinks Mike is in love with El. He has absolutely zero idea that Mike likes him back.

Mike, however, takes this romantically. We can see it in his face, the soft expression even though they were just fighting.

“We’re friends! We’re friends.”

Which is true. These two were inseparable

“Maybe you should have reached out more, i dont know. Why is this on me? Why am i the bad guy?” this line hurts because he isn’t the bad guy. He’s having his own issues and he also thought Will was ignoring him out of spite

Now, the first bit tells Will that Mike wanted Will to reach out more, but Will still isnt aware that Mike was trying to call him. A lot.

OKAY mike and el fight now

Mike made her eggos. He sits on her bed (parallels with that byler scene in dear billy).

“So, um, are we just gonna not talk about it?” he says this kinda rudely tbh

Mike doesnt understand why El is lying to him

El says shes different and does not belong

Also this whole fight scene??? Hes so insincere. He doesnt know how to comfort her. He also cant take the blame or admit that he doesnt love her. “I care for you.” Hes not trying to be malicious, hes just stupid

“You dont love me anymore?”

“Who said that I didnt?” YOU DID MICHAEL

Will sits next to him. Mike has a gay panic

“Me and el had a bad fight. This one felt adult. Felt more real. Like its a fight you cant come back from (a break up). Maybe i should have said something. Maybe if i had said that thing (i love you), she would want me there with her”

“We’re going to find her, and whatever you didnt say, you can say it to her then”

Mike is still having a gay moment. Bro is mesmerized. Now here comes the flirty part

“Shes going to be ok. Shes not in hawkins, thats what we should be worried about”

In will’s eyes, this is him fixing mike and el’s relationship. He doesnt know the real reason why they were fighting. To him, the words “i love you” are just “something mike didnt say to her during the fight”. Perhaps he just thinks its an apology that mike needs to say

But he didnt fix their relationship, because the issue is much bigger than some random thing Mike didnt say. Because its not a random thing. Hes not in love with her. Will thinks Mike is in love with her, and Mike still thinks him and el are probably going to breakup

Mike enters. He closes the door behind him this time. Probably because he starts FLIRTING RIGHT OFF THE BAT

He checks out will and licks his lips like ok 

“Thanks, by the way. (“for what?”) For knocking some sense into me, i mean, i was being a total self pitying idiot”

Self-pity: ‘When you feel sorry for yourself, or overly sad about the difficulties you face’. His self-pitying was being ignored by Will and acting like it was the end of the world

“I didnt say it” SLY SMIRK

“You didnt have to” FLIRTING!!!!! WILL BLUSHES AND TURNS AWAY

Then mike is like ‘ok stop flirting go back to what u originally wanted to say’ and he shakes his head and talks in a different tone…

“About the last two days..” the airport scene, ignoring will at rink o mania and fighting with him, and then mike staring at the letter in the last byler scene.

“You dont have to say anything. I was being a total jerk to El, i deserved it”

“No, no, you didnt deserve anything.” mike is saying will didnt deserve to be ignored and yelled at by mike. Mike knows hes in the wrong, but he couldnt admit he was in the wrong when he was fighting with el? okay!

Now Mike has Will’s attention,

“It’s hawkins. It’s not the same without you. And I feel like maybe I was worrying too much about El and.. i dont know, maybe i feel like i lost you or something. Does that make sense?”

In the script, it tells us that it makes total sense to will. He feels the exact same way that Mike does. Mike feels the exact same way that Will does, and we know that Will loves Mike. do u see where im getting at

“I have no idea whats going to happen next” hes either talking about his relationship with El or the actual events occurring (the upside down, reaching el, etc)

Mike and Will lock eyes

Mike is trying to fix what had been damaged since they were separated a year ago. He wants them to work as a team, and be best friends again, since they had been accidently avoiding one another

Ah… episode 5. The on top of the car scene where they are literally talking about confessing to each other. No, they arent actually just talking about argyle and the agent dude not saying the number. Mike is talking about the fight with el again, saying he should have explained himself, and then maybe El would have taken him with her and things would be different, but he didn’t know what to say.

He did know what to say. “I love you”. But he didnt, because he doesnt love her

Then Will starts talking about confessing feelings, “Sometimes I think its just scary to open up like that, to say how you really feel. Especially to the people you care about the most.”

The camera is on Mike now. His expression is soft and hes watching Will intently

“What if they dont like the truth?” Mike looks down and nods. Ah, the truth. And whats the truth? That Mike doesn’t love El. Hes too scared to tell her the truth. Maybe hes too scared to admit the truth to himself, too

Their moment is seized by argyle speaking

Every moment from here to ep 8 isnt any deep or intimate conversations so ill ignore them

AND NOW

THE VAN SCENE. Which is exactly why i rewatched every other scene so i could link them to whats being said. Here goes

Will brings up El and going to Vegas with her to use her powers to win money. He’s also saying it excitedly, which is mentioned in the script. This is when hes being lit with sunlight like a disco ball, and when Mike is looking at him like hes the most beautiful boy hes ever seen

Then Will mentions playing D&D and Nintendo for the rest of their lives. A direct callback to their fight in s3 that hasnt been brought up SINCE it happened. Makes sense for them to finally mention it

But thats why Mike’s mood changes. The motive behind the vibe change is the fight being brought up. Will thinks it's because he was being childish and made it awkward, and he also thinks it's because of El (which is why he starts talking about her again, but more on that in a bit).

Will believes Mike loves El. Mike and Will’s fight was because of Mike spending too much time with El and ignoring Will and the rest of the party (because Mike was trying to get rid of his gay thoughts). Mike is the one who brings up playing games together for the rest of their lives. And then Will, always having loved Mike, says “Yeah. I guess I did.” ouch

Will isnt going to think Mike is upset because of the garage fight. But of course Mike is upset about it, because Mike is gay too. Mike regrets the fight. he regretted it WHEN the fight happened!! 

So will brings up el again because he must be upset about el, right? 

“We’re gonna make it, mike. Shes going to be okay”

[nervously] “Yeah, i know. I know she is.” He wasn’t worrying about El being in trouble, which is what will thinks the issue is

[contemplatively] “but what if after all this is over, she doesn’t need me anymore?” 

We’ve been over this before.

Will is always trying to fix his and El’s relationship. Why would they break up if they are both in love? In jonathan’s bedroom, he tried fixing their relationship: “Whatever you didnt say then, you can say after we save her.” but its not that easy, because Mike literally cannot say “i love you”, and he definitely can’t say it in a genuine way, either

So yes. They have been over this before, and will can’t seem to understand why Mike needs to keep talking about it because ‘isnt it just something you want to say to her?’

Mike’s rant is pretty just him saying that him and el are going to breakup because they didn’t meet because of ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ and theres no greater reason for them to stay together or be in love. No higher power has told them to be in love. Hes just some nerd that got lucky that superman came to his aid when he lost Will.

his rant, at its core, is mike trying to convince will that him and el arent working out, and that mike might not love her anymore, or maybe never did. he wants will to agree with him, but he doesn't, because will thinks mike loves el. hes not going to try and sabotage their relationship because he respects them both

also mike is sus af for regarding himself as lois lane (a woman) and his GIRLFRIEND as superman (A MAN)

Will doesn’t get what Mike is saying. He doesn’t understand what the issue is because he wouldn't think Mike doesn't love El. i mean, mike hasn't actually shown any disinterest in El to other characters. we only know hes queer because we see private moments between el and mike and how not in love he acts and how IN LOVE he acts with will. mike is TRYING to admit he doesn't love el but will misunderstands completely

Mike sees Will’s reaction and immediately apologises

Then we have “You’re scared of losing her.” i think we should all know by now that its MIKE who was talking about losing will in the dear billy scene. And ive always thought that in this part, when will said that, mike wasn’t thinking of el. He was thinking of will. The way they are looking at each other here… why would they both react like that when will is talking about mike’s girlfriend? Perhaps its because MIKE ISNT THINKING ABOUT EL

They lock eyes. A BEAT; then: Mike nods

he’s scared of losing Will. but he goes along with what will is saying, because hes too scared to actually continue with the confession he was originally going to make. He wasnt expecting will to say that, was he? He must have had more to say, but then will changed the subject

When Will lies about the painting, not only is it the first time he ever lies to mike, but it creates that miscommunication again. They dont understand what the other is saying

(Will tries to get what Mike is saying) and (Now its Mike who doesn’t get it)

These ones are the killers. We know exactly what Will is talking about during his confession. He’s confessing his feelings under the guise of El. Mike doesn’t get that Will is talking about himself!

But if Will didnt get what mike was trying to say then mike wasn't actually "scared of losing her", bringing me back to my point about his rant: He was trying to admit he didn’t love El and he was under the impression that he was going to inevitably break up with her. They aren’t meant for each other, they aren’t fate or destiny.

Mike doesn’t get it, though. He really does believe Will is talking about El’s feelings. I mean, that is what will was trying to do, anyway; fix mike and el’s relationship. but mike is in love with will, and mike feels the exact same way that will does (Mike also feels different, hes been ostracized and bullied, he’s scared of losing will), so it makes sense that Will's speech gives Mike the desire to try and salvage his relationship with El. Mike doesnt fully comprehend his falling out of love with El, obviously. His attempt to fix everything with a shitty monologue backfires when it fails miserably. His monologue wasnt genuine because he doesnt love her. Will gave Mike his feelings, not El’s. and mike and will are soulmates , so yes, hes going to think that the relationship advice is going to solve everything, and will even brought up points mike didnt think about! and now hes like damn ok will doesn't like me and maybe i could make it work with el

ok now im just ranting sorry

ive also forgot to touch on something i mentioned before so ill add it now. in the coded confession, will says "if she was mean to you, or she seemed like she was pushing you away-". im sure its obvious but el HASNT been pushing mike away. mike may have picked up on this and thought 'wait, something is off' because he kinda did have that expression?? but alas his thoughts were Stolen so idk. but mike felt like will was pushing him away, did he not? they both felt like the other was pushing away and creating distance. that's why mike regarded himself as a "self-pitying idiot" because he was feeling sorry for himself because will was ignoring him. so yes, its possible mike picked up on this, because el wasn't pushing mike away, but mike thought will was pushing him away. not sure if that means anything but i wanted to bring it up

anyway. here are my final points

i guess i always had connection with this series because of how it portrayed outcasts

how they get together and fight back evil monsters. how they can enjoy time with eachother, how they support eachother even when everyone are against them. how friends don't lie.

how mike is an actual friend for will and didn't push him away, even if he did, he would've said that he is sorry, he saw that his friend was unnerved or sad

how he actually listened him and were there for him even if not as much as when they were smaller but still

friendships of this kind is very valuable and they grow stronger over time, its just feels more natural this way

like every one of them is strange and different for other people around them (except steve maybe but his character's personal growth was immensible because of that, because he saw that there's more to life than stupid boundaries and school hierarchy, because what is actually real is care and appreciation for each other like his friendship with robin for example when in the start it was romantic affection but then he just accepted her and went with it no questions asked. i cant imagine steve from first season to be so chill about it )

how exept their differences they managed to create this beautiful strong friendship ( not that shared traumatic experience helped here but fighting evil aside )

and ending of season 4 managed to destroy that.

not for all of them ( max and lucas actually really surprised me with how they were so open with each other, their interactions had me rooting for them so much, and of course it ended bad for max because why be open about anything )

im especially sad because of how they went with eddie's character. he managed to accept that he is different and made it his power all on his own, he inspired kids because of that (maybe it's just a facade to get back at hateful people but still he gets back at them in some way). and then he is killed because of "i should fight back this time because im always running away and i should be a hero" but he wasn't running at all, not in the ways of how he personally standed himself against societal norms at least. he already was fighting all this time. and you tell me that he really didn't know that sometimes "running away" is the answer when there is no reason to fight back. and in the end it seemed that no one even cared except dustin, all of the hawkins still hates him and wants him dead. of course they wouldn't know but its so fucking sad and angering me.

and also about nance and eleven, i felt like they were going to be more explored as their own person, and not just as codependent romantic interest again. like i understand it with el maybe with big big stretch but that thing about steve and nancy like they want to be together again even if nancy with jonathan right now what even was that. like, are all their personal growth are going to.. to this??

i thought that this season would explore more of characters' inner problems and thoughts, but i guess its too boring am i right. this series is focused on sci-fi and horror elements anyway.

That wasn’t the best idea Mike ever had. Lucas thought the best idea was when Mike told him to use his licorice as a straw for his soda. It was a good idea though, except that

“I know, but we won’t get married right away, when we’re like 16 or something! And I’m gonna need your help! You have to come over early on Wednesday, please!”

“Hm fine, you have to give me half of your halloween candy stash though.”

“Okay” Mike grumbled as he opened the door to the nurses office

Lucas knocked on the Wheelers door and was immediately met with a frustrated Mike, who shoved flowers into his hand. “Here hold these.” He was struggling with a bow tie, that Lucas had seen him wear on Thanksgiving. He eventually gave up and lead him to the basement.

There was a fort set up, with lights hanging in it.

“Nancy help me set it up” He said proudly

“Wills gonna love it” He said back, noticing that there were more drawings hung on Mikes wall and it was quite messy down here.

“Okay so you have to give him the flowers, say they’re from me obviously, and then bring him down here and i’m gonna ask him in the fort!” He explained, he was still struggling with his bowtie.

“Your hairs messy.” Lucas pointed at Mikes tangled hair.

“Oh no!” Mike patted his hair and then grabbed Lucas’s arm, pulling him up the steps “Help me brush it cmon!”

A little while later, after they fixed Mikes hair, Will had arrived. Mike ran down the basement stairs and Lucas to the door.

“Hello Sir William, these are for you, from Mike.” He said in the fanciest voice he could manage, handing the yellow flowers, that looked like they were picked out of Mrs. Wheelers garden, to Will.

“Hey Lucas! Thanks! They’re pretty” Will admired the flowers, giving them a sniff. “Where’s Mike?”

“Down the stairs! Follow me!” Will ran after Lucas. In the basement, Mike was standing in front of the fort, his bowtie was still crooked, and a ring in his hand.

“Hey Mike! Thanks for the flowers.” Will said, wrapping Mike in a hug. Mike then tugged him into the blanket fort and Lucas not knowing where to go, sat down on the couch listening to the two boys “This is cool! Did you and Lucas build it?”

“Nope, I did, and Nancy helped me.”

“Oh, I like the lights, I should get some for Castle Byers.”

“Thanks! And yeah you definitely should. But anyway I have a question to ask you Will.”

“Okay”

“I think you’re super cool Will” Lucas noted that Mike sounded super nervous, “…and smart and you’re super good at art- oh and pretty! So I wanted to know if you would marry me?” Mike handed Will the ring he had stolen from his mom, it didn’t fit either of them, but neither cared.

Will looked pleasantly surprised. Mike had to explain to Will that they wouldn’t get married right away, and that they would when they were older. Once Will got it, he said yes and they started planning their wedding, calling Lucas to come into the fort to help.

Eventually Joyce came to pick Will up. Will shoved the ring in his jacket pocket and gave Mike a big hug goodbye. He waved goodbye to Lucas and followed his Mom out to the car.

After he left, Mike started jumping up and down once again “He said yes! He said yes!”

Lucas didn’t remember a lot of specifics about that day, except that he remembered that was the happiest Lucas had ever seen Mike those few months he had known him.

“And then, Mike had to ask Will back for the ring like two days later because his mom wanted it back.” Lucas laughed as he finished the story

“Wow Michel you were quite the romantic.” Max remarked

“Yeah Mike, I cant believe I almost forgot.” Will smiled at him, “So when’s the wedding love?” Will teased, leaving Mike a little pink in the cheeks.

I thought of ending it with part 3, but some of you requested some more Dustin Henderson x reader scenes and I had to make Mike jealous. I just love imagining him dying of jealousy. Anyway, if you want, I voluntarily will write part 4, probably the last part, so let me know. Thank you.

Few days has passed since the Snow Ball, but you still couldn’t take Mike’s death and sorrowful glare off your head. You couldn’t understand why he would be grumpy and irked. He couldn’t be jealous, could he? And if ever, why would he? Mostly, when Eleven has already came back.

“Dustin, are you sure of this?” You asked him for the millionth time and you thanked him for being patient with you. You were so anxious and afraid of what might happen next, mostly when Mike could discover everything what you and Dustin were doing.

The group has planned to do another endless campaign of Dungeons and Dragons, but Will and Dustin decided not to as Eleven and Max kept on interrupting the game by asking explanations for every move that the party would make. Everyone in the group, except you and Dustin, offered a hand to teach the mechanics of the game to the girls. You, obviously, had a better thing to do with Dustin.

“Of course, (Y/N).” He nodded nonchalantly, lowering his voice so the boys wouldn’t hear your conversation. After all, they were still convinced that you were already in a relationship with Dustin. “Nancy knows how to make people feel better, maybe she knows why Mike is acting weird too.” You both stopped in front of Nancy’s bedroom door, slowly building your courage up before knocking.

“Dustin, Mike barely talked to us, you must be kidding if you think that he talked to his sister.” You rolled your eyes as Dustin took a deep breath.

You were both devastated as your best friend suddenly stopped talking to you, also because you didn’t do something bad to hurt him or make him angry. He has greeted you, but he was so cold and detached. Mike has never treated you in that way, he never did. He has always wanted to make you feel better, to see you with your widest smile on your face.

“You’re prettier when you smile, (Y/N).” He stated as he tucked your (Y/H/C) hair behind your ear. You flutter closed your eyes in happiness, feeling his lips on your forehead.

“Nancy?” Dustin knocked, gently shouting Nancy’s name to have her attention. Your eyes grew wide as you shook your thoughts off your head and you were about to run away, but Dustin grabbed your hand and squeezed it tightly. “You are hurting, (Y/N), but let me help you. You can still conquer the boy of your dreams, okay?” He whispered in your ear, softening your gaze.

“Hey Dusty, (Y/N)!” She cheerfully greeted, pulling you both in a tight hug. Dustin quickly let go of your hand as he didn’t want for Nancy to tease him with you. That boy has got a crush on the young lady standing in front of you. “What’s up?”

“Uhh,” You nervously blurted out and Dustin smiled at you to encourage you. “I need some help.”

“Oh,” She warmly smiled. “advices on dating Dusty?” She winked at Dustin, but he just rolled his eyes. You shook your head and she quickly knitted her eyebrows together. “But the rumours had it and I thought that you are together.”

“We’ll explain it to you.” Dustin seriously stated. Nancy nodded and she invited you to enter her room, shutting and locking the door nonchalantly.

“So, what is everything about?” Nancy curiously asked, sitting on her study desk. Dustin invited you to sit beside him on the edge of Nancy’s double bed. You followed him as you roamed your eyes around the room, catching some interesting photographs and posters on the wall.

“We aren’t together.” Dustin explained, emphasizing his words. “The people thought that we are, because we hugged in the middle of the gym during the ball.”

“Oh,” Nancy sang as she got Dustin’s point. “so, what is your problem? How can I help you with it?”

“The problem is Mike Wheeler, your asshole brother.” Dustin blurted out. He rolled his eyes at the thought of his best friend. He was a little bitter, because he suddenly stopped talking to him, giving him death glares as he tried to make you, his closest best friend, feel better. He did nothing bad nor awful, on the contrary!

“What did Mike do?” Nancy asked as she let her legs hang from the desk, swaying them as she listened to you.

“I love him.” You shyly blurted out, feeling the heat on your cheeks. Dustin widely smiled, showing his beloved pearls, and teased you cheekily. You shook your head in disbelief and you rolled your eyes, because you couldn’t stand the embarrassment of the situation.

“Oh my God,” Nancy enthusiastically cheered, making you bounce on the bed in shock. You corrugated your forehead as you couldn’t understand if it was a compliment or not, so you sat there: puzzled. “Jonathan owes me and Steve twenty bucks.”

“What? You’re betting on me?” Your mouth opened agape and you elbowed your best friend as he kept on giggling under his breath.

“I’m sorry, but we can’t help but do it. I can totally see in your eyes that you liked Mike.” She nodded, defending the fact that the teen adults made some bet on you and Mike. You shrugged your shoulders as Eleven came into your mind, sighing as the pain penetrated your already shattered heart.

“He likes Eleven.” Dustin murmured, almost silently. Nancy’s smile suddenly fell back as she heard his brother’s secret. “But the thing that I don’t understand is why did he just stop on talking to me or (Y/N). I did nothing but dance with her during the ball.”

“Hmm,” She brought the back of her hand under her chin to think and she sighed since she couldn’t think of the right answer. “have you talked to him?”

“No, he is detached and it seemed like he kept on pushing me away.” You honestly answered. You bit your lower lip, trying to halt your tears from glossing your eyes. “And, if ever, I don’t know what to tell him.”

“Oh,” She nodded, leaving the desk and stood in front of you instead. “I think that the guy is jealous. I know that you are his closest best friend, sometimes he would share to the family your moments together, sometimes your problems too. He would always be proud of himself whenever he would make you feel good. Maybe he’s just jealous and afraid that he might lose you.”

“I don’t know, Nancy.” You were perplexed and you gave her a confused look. “Sometimes, I just want to tell him that I love him, even though I know that it isn’t requited. Maybe I would feel better if I let everything out.” You vented, Dustin was just listening at your statements. Sometimes he would look at you, sometimes he would look at Nancy to understand the situation.

“You’d like to let everything out?” Nancy sadly smiled, thinking of a way how to help you. You stare at her while waiting for her answer, you watched her walk back and forth, trying her best to think of something. “Aha, I got it!” She happily exclaimed.

“What is it?” You raised an eyebrow as you carefully listened to Nancy.

“You pretend that Dustin is Mike and you tell him everything, as in everything.” She convincingly said in a lower tone. You glanced at Dustin and he smiled at you in response. “You’re going to practice and, whenever you’re ready, you talk to Mike. Is that okay?”

“Okay.” You shortly answered. You unleashed a long and heavy sigh, readying yourself. It wasn’t the same to have Dustin in front of you, of course, but maybe he could help you to make things easier.

“Whenever you’re ready.” Nancy encouraged you as if she was a director of some sort of film.

“Dustin,” You started, turning towards Dustin’s direction. You imagined having Mike in front of you, even though you pronounced Dustin’s name. You thought that calling Dustin by his best friend’s name was disrespectful. “I-I like you, no! I-I love you! It has been years since I started loving you, but I never had the courage to confess my feelings for you. I don’t know, maybe because I thought that we were just best friends or something like that and best friends don’t usually love each other, I mean in a romantic way.” Dustin nodded to encourage you to go on with your speech. He didn’t know that you stopped because you heard some footsteps outside the room.

“Just go on!” Dustin gently ordered with a smile. He was really willing to help you, also because he didn’t want to see you hurting anymore.

You nodded and took a long breath. “I didn’t even know what love was, but then El has arrived and my-“

You suddenly stopped when you heard a loud bang outside of Nancy’s room, jumping a little bit on the bed. Your eyes grew wide, afraid that someone has heard your confession.

“What the hell, Mike?” Nancy twisted her door knob, went out of the room and forcefully opened Mike’s room. You and Dustin looked at each other and followed Nancy, slowly walking, almost tip-toeing. “What’s your problem?”

You peaked through his doorway and your heart dropped as you saw his tears slowly streaming down his face. Dustin looked at you and you looked at Dustin, you were both puzzled, confused.

“Fuck off, Nancy!” He pushed her sister away, wiping his tears furiously.

“Mike!” You restrained him from pushing people away and treating them in a rude way. He wasn’t the Mike that you used to know and you kept on saying that you knew him well, but you didn’t even know why he was acting up in that way.

“(Y/N), just go away, okay? You do nothing but give me heartbreak and misery!” He fearlessly spat the words as if they were venom in his mouth. Your tears found their way through your eyes and your chest tightened, his words weighing in your chest. Dustin quickly hugged you, rubbing your back as you sobbed against his neck, knowing how hurt you were.

“What the hell, Mike?” Dustin defended you as he yelled at his friend. “Stop being a dick!”

Mike noisily sobbed and hardly sniffed, letting his hot tears to wet his red cheeks. “You know what, (Y/N)? It’s hard for me to say this, but,” He paused, terribly trembling as he took all of his courage out. He didn’t mind Dustin, but the scene of Dustin hugging you broke his heart even more, wishing that it was him. “I love you and I’m jealous of the way you’re happy without me!”

Hey Everyone! This little drabble was inspired by the last addition to the��‘Tales of Short Stack and String Bean’ by @mad-maxxy ! Seriously if you have not read that series then you are missing out!

And while her stories are fluffy, and romantic, and wonderful, this is not. It takes place during the year El is gone, and Mike is just having a really hard time.

A warm summer day in June.

The sun is shining in between breaks in fluffy white clouds. Birds chirp and people walk around the streets with cheery smiles and comfortable conversations. Everything seems so right in the world.

So why does Mike feel so wrong?

He paces back and forth on the dusty gravel at the quarry. It crunches underfoot, but with his thoughts racing he can't even hear it.

He had hoped that Summer would make everything better, but it hasn't. Now he has all the time in the world to see his friends, and ride bikes, and finally finish that campaign he has been working on for months, but he can't. He doesn't feel like doing any of it.

Its to the point now where he sees people laughing, and his friends having fun, and he gets angry. It's confusing and frustrating and it makes him want to scream. The only thing that makes him feel better at all are the brief moments of hopefulness he gets when he calls El. Like maybe tonight will finally be the night she answers.

But she never does. And that only makes him angrier.

Nancy thinks he’s ‘depressed’. It's a word she has used when complaining about their mother on the phone to her friends, and it seems right, but he doesn't want to admit that it's true. He feels so stupid. Shouldn't he be over it by now? Everyone else is. No one ever talks about it anymore. About her.

He thinks that maybe it's for his benefit, so he doesn't mention it. It's just that their party is so incomplete without her. He only knew her for a week, and yet, she became one of his best friends. She always understood. She didn't think his jokes were stupid, or that his action figures were lame. She was nice, and caring, and thoughtful to a fault. She gave her own life to help people she barely knew, and the guilt he felt weighed down on him every day.

He just wants to know if she is okay. He just wants to clear his conscious, and maybe that is selfish but he doesn't care anymore.

So, when spring became summer, and the days he counted each night got further away, he made a plan.

His palms start to sweat and he dries them on his jeans, as he looks down at the impossibly dark water below. The last time he was here, she saved him. So maybe she would save him again.

Its stupid, and he knows that, but it just might work. Wherever she is, whatever she is hiding from, maybe saving him again will be enough to make her come out.

The last time he jumped, it was to protect Dustin, and it was so much easier then. He would jump off this cliff a thousand times for any of his friends, because that's what the party does. They protect each other at all costs, no matter what.

He takes a sobering breath, and walks even closer to the edge. He tests his weight, shifting one foot out over the edge. He does the same with the other. Almost playing with the idea before actually going through with it, as if that would make it easier.

Minutes pass.

He stands with his back to the sun, and the breeze drifting up from below his feet, and nothing happens. He doesn't want to die. He wants to be saved. He wants her to save him, the way he could never save her. He wants her to save him so that he can't protect her from the bad men, or the government, or whoever it might be that tries to hurt her. Because the party protects each other at all costs, no matter what.

He takes another breath, and sticks a foot out over the edge, and just as he is about to jump, he hears her.

“Mike.”

Like a breath in the wind, or a whisper, or a memory.

He whips around so fast that the loose gravel gives way, and he stumbles forward onto the dirt. Sharp rocks dig into his palms and knees, but he cant feel them. He scrambles up and searches for her, eyes darting around the tree line, and the rocky cliff side, and the water bellow, and even the air. Just hoping, praying, that she might have actually come, that his plan worked.

But she didn't.

He finds himself alone. Crushingly alone. Before he can even feel it, his knees give way and collapses into himself, wrapping his arms around his legs and letting the tears fall. He is so angry. He wants to yell, and fight, and claw his way into whatever world she is in and pull her out with his own two hands. But he can't. He can't do anything.

And for the first time, he actually thinks that she might be gone. He hates himself for it, but he can't help it. He doesn't know which is worse. That an amazing and sweet person sacrificed herself for people she barely knew, and ended up trapped in a cold, dark, lonely prison, or that an amazing and sweet person died before she even knew what it was like to be cared about. Before she knew what it was like to have friends, before Mike could keep any of his promises.

He stays at the quarry for a long time.

Until its cold, and the sun is setting, and he can't cry anymore because he feels empty. He walks home, and lies to his mom about being with the guys all day. He lies to Nancy about being okay when she asks, and he makes his way into the basement.

Hey, El, Its me. Its Mike. Its day 215.

It was a really hard day. I almost did something really stupid.

I guess I just... I really miss you.

And I need to know that you are okay.

Please, please just give me sign. Anything.

....

Okay. Well, goodnight, El. I'll talk to you again tomorrow.

Meanwhile across town.

El sits at the foot of her bed, eyes covered in dark fabric with the TV static buzzing in the silence.

She takes off the blindfold and wipes at her nose, and under her eyes. She wanted more than anything to talk to him tonight. It took everything she had not to let him know she was there, and that she was okay.

She had gotten a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach just before she followed him in the void. She saw him at the quarry. She saw what he was going to do, and she panicked because this time she couldn't save him.

She screamed out to him, hovering near as he tested his balance. She screamed so loud that her throat hurt, and it felt like she might actually lose her voice.

She hoped that it got to him somehow. That beyond all odds, and however many miles lay between them (although she knew is wasn't many), he would hear her.

She wasn't sure if it did, but at least he thought better of it. Something had gotten through to him, and soon she would too.

Soon there wouldn't be any distance. Soon she would be home.
