name: Tahira Asaaranda Adaar 

nickname: Occasionally ‘Hira to friends or family - Sera picks up on this one pretty quickly.

age: Twenty six at the start of the game.

species: Qunari (or, specifically, Vashoth)

morality: Neutral good; sometimes she sees laws and rules and consistency as the only way to get things done (especially when her organisation is supposed to restore order) but there are times when something speaks to her on a gut level and she’ll do what she wants.

personal

religion: As a Vashoth who grew up entirely separate from the Qun, she has... an interesting take on religion, never quite sure what to think about it. Growing up in her little village in the Marches she never quite felt welcome in the Chantry, but she also had some Chantry priests who were kind to her, and she saw how that one little building seemed to bring people together. After learning about the bigger picture she’s somewhat more disillusioned, but still remembers wanting that feeling of community. At this point she’s seen the Dalish praying to their gods and the Avvar communing with theirs, and she doesn’t really care what people believe in provided it’s driving them to be better and not worse.

Lust because particularly before the start of the game and before slowly falling for Josephine, Tahira was an unrepentant flirt, not used to committing anything to real relationships but just breezing through town with the mercs, hooking up and moving on. Envy for various reasons, but particularly because she can be beset by feelings of ‘why me? it’s not fair, other people don’t have to deal with this’. Pride italicised because she doesn’t think she anything special, but in certain aspects she’s a hopeless brag (she wants to seem cool!) and is also easily manipulated into doing things because she finds it impossible to back down from a challenge.

Tahira’s definitely kind and tries hard to be just. She sincerely wants to help people, and she speaks gently, always tries diplomacy before violence. Linked to patience, which is italicised because she’s patient in some ways - with other people, carefully helping them get to where they need to be - but not in others, namely with herself, and with problems that she can’t fix. She’s also humble in some ways - she’s always adamant that no matter the titles shoved on her, she’s not above people. She’s just a regular woman. However, she’s very self-assured in things like her skills and doesn’t mind bragging about missions she did with the Valo-Kas or similar.

build: scrawny / bony / slender / fit / athletic / curvy / herculean / pudgy / plus size / average 

height: 6ft 11, without including horns.

scars/birthmarks: She has various scars from her years of being a mercenary; one on her lip, eyebrow, cheeks, one on the neck from a close shave, and various others. She has a big jagged one on her stomach from a close run-in with a bard in her Valo-Kas days.  

abilities/powers

Weapons! She’s incredibly skilled with swords, axes, hammers and polearms even if the game won’t let me have them, having a particular fondness for greatswords and two-handed battleaxes. She’s got a huge amount of brute strength, but also the battle smarts to back it up.

She’s not versed in etiquette or the Game by any means, but given the chance Tahira is actually a good diplomat. She tells it how it is when needed, cuts deals that seem fair to everyone and genuinely likes resolving things peacefully. 

Cooking - growing up on a farm and then having to usually make her own food with the mercenaries, she’s really good at making a tasty dish with very limited ingredients, and knows some interesting recipes learnt from her parents. 

Related to the above, making things with her hands is something she’s pretty good at - she can make a mean cheese, as well as being a good leatherworker and knowing some smithing and carving. 

She’s great with animals and can generally handle even the most timid or angry beasts.  

restrictions

Recklessness and never backing down from a challenge - it’s not great when you can get the Inquisitor to run into a situation simply by saying the equivalent of ‘Bet you can’t’. 

Kind of gullible. She feels incredibly out of her depth in the Inquisition for a long time, so if somebody steps in to ‘correct’ her on something she’ll usually just believe them on principle.

Often feels anger and envy that other people get to have it so easy whereas fate has thrust all of this on her. Fades somewhat over the course of the game as she comes into her own more as Inquisitor.

Again, more so earlier on but she also has difficulty believing she’s in any way capable of actually pulling this whole thing off and can freeze up completely at the war table. She also has nightmares and occasionally panic attacks about screwing everything up as Inquisitor.

Doesn’t mind being underground, but absolutely hates small spaces. If it involves her having to get on her hands and knees and crawl, she’ll panic.

food: In canon, definitely pie, good cheese, roast/campfire cooked meat, good bread, stew with dumplings, and sweet puddings. Real stick-in-your-ribs food. If she had a modern favourite food, probably something like chicken strips and chips.
