There is a clicking sound coming from Garrus’s mouth, or thereabouts. Shepard leans back a little, propping herself up on her side of the bed, up on her elbow. It sinks against the cushions, lowering her anyway. Across the no man’s land of white sheets on the bed lays Garrus. Arms behind his head, a barrier between him and the soft pillows she took out specifically for him.

“What was that?” she asks.

He looks at her suddenly. Startled. She can tell by how sharp his movement is, a quick turn of his head, eyes that move about her face, lingering on her mouth. He clicks again, a chirp almost.

“Garrus,” she tries.

He chirps. A trilling sound. His lips barely move as he does it.

“Oh,” she says, pushing herself up into a sitting position. “Translator must be fucked.”
