Underneath The Mistletoe - Toya x male!Reader

“Toya, could you pass me those tinsels?” You ask as you hang a couple of baubles on the overhead lamp. “uh, right.” Toya mumbles and passes you the white decoration.

You had agreed to decorate Weekend Garage while the others went on their own dates. Toya had jumped at the chance to spend time with you alone, having not been able to for some time now due to practices.

You hung the tinsels and move on to a different part. Toya takes a few sprigs of mistletoe from the box, starting to hang them up on the cherry-wood walls. Meanwhile, you follow him and place a couple on the other side. You start humming a Christmas jingle to yourself as you work, hearing him join in after a while. As you decorated, you realised the sound of his voice was getting closer…

Suddenly, he bumps into you as you both realise you were back in the middle, underneath the door entrance.

A mistletoe was already hung up there and both of you were underneath it. Right in the doorway. He doesn’t seem to realise what it meant.. Typical of your adorable clueless idiot. You stare at him, searching his eyes and hoping that he’d catch on by some unknown force of knowledge. He stared right back at you, his cheeks slightly pink-stained. It seemed he was flustered at the intense look you’re giving him.

You smile, amused and just lean down and press a kiss to his soft lips. “This is what it means, love.” You chuckle softly at his stunned look as his expression dissolves into a flustered, “oh.” You gently pet his head and murmur, “Come on, let’s get on with the deco.”

Toya follows, his cute face still pink, his expression barely betraying the slightest hint of nervousness.

You pick up some Christmas lights and pass them to him, pointing to a spot of the wall near the barista area, which was slightly higher than the lamps. “There. I think we can hang some over there.”

Toya nods and goes over while you hang up other strings of lights on the opposite side of the area. As you finish, you hear him letting out a soft sound of him trying to reach the spots.

You chuckle and come up behind him, hoisting him into your arms as you lifted him up to reach the space. He starts to thank you while hanging up the lights and you look up at him, grinning, “You can always ask for help, my love. you know that.” Toya mumbles a soft, “Yeah, yeah, alright..”

you were bouncing off the walls excitedly touching the crystals that were out and then pointing at the ones that were on display

you tried not to get giddy at how domestic that sounded while you looked for the price tag behind the glass

i’ve been doing pretty well myself. my summer job is keeping me a lot more busy than i’d originally planned for the summer, so i haven’t been around here as much either. but i’ve been doing my best. although, life’s been pretty good lately to be honest, so i’m not upset about it :)

but OMG yay to ateez coming to your city?? that’s so exciting! i totally get the frustration of groups never coming anywhere near you. i’m from western canada, and it is just barren over here lmao. i had to fly across the country to see ateez in hamilton, which may not sound bad, but canada’s pretty big so it was still almost a five hour flight lmao. so worth it tho.

sorry you’ll have to miss aespa though! but who knows, maybe you’ll be able to find some cheap seats the day of! i’ve been super into them lately so i was fully prepared to buy tickets for hamilton again or even north-west states…but they’re not coming anywhere even remotely close lmao. i’m not prepared to drop a grand on flights, so i’ll have to miss it. oh well, i catch them next time hopefully :,)

first off! i am SO HAPPY to hear that you’re enjoying the soldier of stars right now!! that fic truly got me through the beginning of quarantine when we were all locked up with nothing to do and hazel, catherine and lizzie were by far some of my favorites (i genuinely miss writing them sm)!! and your own bob OCs too! AHHHH! that’s so exciting!!! truly OCs are some of the greatest joys i stg! 😭🫶

second! i will HAPPILY answer! because it still very much holds true to this day, even through other fics i write! so honestly, when i write BoB OCs, i really just start writing and focus on the OC and see along the way who she ends up vibing best with if that makes sense? sometimes i start a fic and know exactly who i want the OC to end up with and tailor it that way. but most of the time, it ends up where i’m writing and then suddenly, i really start to see a certain OC with a certain canon character.

for example, we’ll use hazel parker in this situation, i wanted her to end up with liebgott so i really tailored their connection and story together to be about that friends-to-lovers vibe and it worked out well for them. someone like catherine mccown though? i had NO IDEA who she’d end up with and i was so happy it was luz in the end! but at the beginning? i had absolutely no clue if cath would even end up with a BoB canon character. sometimes i start a fic and immediately know but sometimes it takes me a while, some trial-and-error along with a whole lot of writing to see if things will even work. but you get there.

if i have any advice, really get to know your OC inside and out. because for me, once i really know my OC as if they were a part of me, i see where they best fit as i write. it may not happen in the first 10 chapters, but as you write, you may begin to notice, “oh wow these conversations X has with Y are actually really much deeper than i thought they were.”.

once you really flesh out your OC and where they fit in the story, then i feel you see where they fit in with other characters. when i write, i try to put my OC in situations and conversations with other characters to see how well they play off others. and by that i mean, i just write, i just see where a scene takes me because sometimes i really struggle to structure a scene second by second. like today, i had 10 minutes to write and just went at it, typing up a storm and got somewhere i didn’t expect to get and it’s actually working MUCH better?!

sometimes i feel just writing and seeing where it goes is most helpful. and maybe if you don’t want to necessarily be working on a fic and just want to do scenes, then that definitely is helpful too! especially if you have an inspo scene between a character and a possible love interest. test it out, see if it works. sometimes you need to just write without even thinking about it to see where it takes you to then realize wow this actually works really well!

why are you apologising omg i literally woke up to this message and it made me smile 🥺🫶🏽 aw i get what you mean, i too used to get caught up with how i perceive the members versus how they actually are. which is why i always try to remind people that this is fiction and nothing else; it's a good reminder for me too (god knows im still delusional most days and can't function without the little stories i make up in my head). but also i guess it comes with age and experience that we never truly know anyone till we know them. and this goes for both idols and irl people.

and please, i'm only as kind and sweet as you all have been to me! real life is hard and this is my safe space, and i want it to be the same for anyone else who needs it as well ❤️‍🩹
