I think Ann Liang just altered my brain chemistry. How am I supposed to go on the with my day as tho my every thought isn't of her poetic words? How is every word that comes out of my mouth not supposed to be about this masterpiece and the last three pages?

[Review] I Hope This Doesn't Find You by Ann Liang [240308]
I just finished binging I Hope This Doesn't Find You by Ann Liang in a day. It was absolutely amazing. I loved every second of it.
The way the author captures every emotion Sadie feels is so captivating, so realistic, so... perfect. I found myself tensing up with when she was worried; I found myself staring intently at the screen of my tablet, my brows furrowed; I found myself smiling along with her.
It was so satisfying reading this novel: the misunderstanding trope wasn't dragged out or annoying, every scene played in my mind exactly like a movie would, and the imagery used was nothing short of spectacular, flowing with the scenes and written in the perfect tone.
The character development was absolutely lovely – something very refreshing and satisfying – they were the opposite of cardboard-plank characters, they all had a purpose to serve and they acted as real humans did, they weren't too childish, too mature, too plain or too flashy.
As I kept reading, I found myself falling in love with the characters more and more – the vanity of Julius, the relatable-ness of Sadie, everything about Abigail... One thing I found especially delightful was how, even though Julius and Sadie were enemies, they were quite the same. [Spoiler Starts] They both loathe the thought of someone pitying them, they both try so hard to be so perfect, they both are equally as obsessed with each other, they make each other feel alive – they just live their lives in different ways. [Spoiler Ends]
Being of Chinese descent, I Hope This Doesn't Find You was even more fun due to the 汉语拼音 embedded within the text – I could hear every word spoken out so smoothly, it was truly an enjoyable experience that evoked immense joy within my heart.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel! 10/10! I feel the constant need to gush about it.

One question kept popping through my mind as I read this novel.... Where is my Julius Gong? I'm a top student (sadly, I'm not any kind of athlete or leader, though I do work out). I get good grades. Relatively. So, uh, God, where can I order a Julius Gong? dfjkdshjfksdf (I'm an agnostic, by the way)

Okay, Cupid by Mason Deaver
From the bestselling author of I Wish You All the Best, the story of a cupid who thinks they know everything about love . . . until they fall in love themselves.
As a cupid, Jude thinks they understand love a little bit more than the average human. It makes sense -- Jude's been studying love their whole teen life. And, yes, there have been some bumps in the road, and they're currently on probation for doing something that they absolutely, definitely shouldn't have done . . . but they're ready to prove they can make matches without ever getting involved.
Only . . . Jude's next assignment isn't about setting up two adults. No, this time Jude has to go to high school, with kids their own age. And the assignment is a tough one: two best friends who are meant to be more than just best friends . . . but who aren't currently speaking to each other after a huge falling out.
Jude thinks they've got this one all under control, and that they won't get involved whatsoever.
Which proves that maybe Jude hasn't learned the first lesson of humans and love . . . It’s complicated.

I Hope This Doesn’t Find You by Ann Liang
Unforgettable, snarky, and romantic, I Hope This Doesn't Find You is Never Have I Ever meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before if Lara Jean wrote hate emails instead of love letters.
Sadie Wen is perfect on paper: school captain, valedictorian, and a "pleasure to have in class." It's not easy, but she has a trick to keep her model-student smile plastered on her face at all times: she channels all her frustrations into her email drafts. She'd never send them of course -- she'd rather die than hurt anyone's feelings -- but it's a relief to let loose on her power-hungry English teacher or a freeloading classmate taking credit for Sadie's work.
All her most vehemently worded emails are directed at her infuriating cocaptain, Julius Gong, whose arrogance and competitive streak have irked Sadie since they were kids. "You're attention starved and self-obsessed and unbearably vain . . . I really hope your comb breaks and you run out of whatever expensive hair products you've been using to make your hair appear deceptively soft . . ."
Sadie doesn't have to hold back in her emails, because nobody will ever read them . . . that is, until they're accidentally sent out.
Overnight, Sadie's carefully crafted, conflict-free life is turned upside down. It's her worst nightmare -- now everyone at school knows what she really thinks of them, and they're not afraid to tell her what they really think of her either. But amidst the chaos, there's one person growing to appreciate the "real" Sadie -- Julius, the only boy she's sworn to hate . . .

Stepping Off by Jordan Sonnenblick
Jesse Dienstag's favorite sweatshirt says, "The real world isn't real." That's the slogan of the vacation-home community in Pennsylvania where his family has always spent every vacation and weekend for as long as he can remember. In the summer of 2019, as Jesse is about to enter his junior year of high school in New York City, he desperately wants to believe the slogan is true. For one thing, the two girls he loves -- equally and desperately -- are in Pennsylvania, and all the stresses and pressures of his daily life and school are in New York.
But when his parents stop talking to each other, it gets harder and harder for Jesse to maintain his dream life in Pennsylvania. And when Covid shuts New York City down in March 2020 just days after Jesse’s mother leaves his father, Jesse's worlds collide.

London On My Mind by Clara Alves
Red, White & Royal Blue meets A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow in this unlikely London romance by debut author Clara Alves!
Sixteen-year-old Dayana has always dreamed of visiting London -- to walk along the Thames, take pictures outside Buckingham Palace, and maybe even get a glimpse of Arthur, Prince of Wales, whose marriage has been all over tabloids. But the trip of her dreams turns into a royal nightmare when her mother passes away. Now, Day must leave Rio de Janeiro to live with her estranged father and his new family in London.
As it turns out, the U.K. isn't exactly Day's cup of tea. She struggles to forgive her father for walking out on her and her mom all those years ago; fights with her stepsister constantly; detests her stepmother; and she can't even see One Direction in concert because they've been broken up for ages. All she wants to do is trade the rainy skies of London for the sun and beaches of Rio.
That's when she runs into the girl of her dreams -- literally: The coincidentally named Diana, a witty, funny, redhead who was in the middle of . . . escaping Buckingham Palace? Something isn't right here, but it makes Diana all the more alluring. As time passes, and the two girls grow closer, Day can't help but wonder if there is more than a little truth to the rumors surrounding Prince Arthur -- and if Diana might be involved somehow. Is it all in her head, or could Day be caught up in a real-life royal scandal?

I Hope This Doesn't Find You awoke something in me cause how the heck did Ann Liang write this one? Never thought I'd find a couple better than Henry and Alice but Sadie and Julius are IT DUO. I cannot comprehend someone actually hating this book. The banter was serving a 5-course meal. Ann Liang woke up and decided to write one of the best literary evidence of academic rivals to exist. The internal monologue written for Sadie (which I horrifyingly could relate to) was typed out while Ann's rent was due and the landlord was outside her front door, knocking for the money. I'm this book's sole protector and defender from today onwards. I'm ready to cut off my limbs for Ann to write similar books, even ready for a liver or kidney transplant. I'm ready to donate whatever fortune I have (comprised mainly of books) for this woman to never stop publishing.
P.S. Julius Gong is so hot and so intelligent??? like I don't even blame Sadie.

Ann Liang 🤝 Holly Black
Alice thinks, "I do hate you. I hate everything about you. I hate you so much that whenever I'm around you, I can barely think straight. I can barely even breathe," on page 134 of If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang.
In The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, Jude says in her narration, "I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him I can hardly breathe" (30).
In I Hope This Doesn't Find You, Sadie says, "It's like I've been poisoned. It's like a sickness, and somehow, the cause and cure of it is him" (Liang 281).
Cardan says the following in The Wicked King, "If you're the sickness, I suppose you can't also be the cure" (Black 57).

Just finished "I hope this doesn't find you" by Ann Liang. Y'all have no idea how long I waited for this and it was definitely worth every second of the few hours I spent reading it (I couldn't put it down).
I couldn't help notice the similarities between I Hope This Doesn't Find You and Maid Sama so I'm gonna list all that I remember here
Academic rivals/enemies to lovers
School captains/ Class president
All four of them are amazingly talented at everything; curriculars, co-cirriculars, extracirriculars
Sadie/Misaki both work really hard at whatever they do, they shoulder the world's burden, they would "dance on flames just to keep everybody entertained"
Sadie/Misaki have an after school job
Which brings me to, and this need not be said, the social class difference (working girls, rich AF boys)
Sports week (need I say more? Cuz I will)
Sadie/Misaki ran most of the races for their barely competent teams while their competitors had a physically fit team with Julius/Takumi as their leader
Julius/Takumi are the runts of their families
Getting hosed down in school wearing 'white' shirts
He fell first, she didn't catch on/refused to admit it
He only has eyes for her. Literally. Julius/Takumi give off strong demi vibes
“There’s nothing—nothing I resent more than when people feel sorry for me. Because I don’t need it. I’m fine. I’m perfect.” ~ Julius Gong
This describes Julius/Takumi so well
"You’re smart and good at everything and you’re totally hot in this kind of successful future-executive way—" ~ Abigail
Here is Abigail giving a totally valid description of Sadie/Misaki
