đ€ my number 1 though is Always Pushing her Luck with a stellar one hundret and ten because yall are some sluts for a good lesbian smut fic
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
yes!! i love interacting with people on art no matter if itâs theirs or mine<3
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hmm i think Teeth actually? not really angsty but maybe it kind of makes you go đŹđł or WAIT maybe my very first jeg microfic thing, the Stag one yknow.. where James is deadđ
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again, from my ao3 oneâs probably Ribs but microfics probably just all the fluffy ones, iâm looking at the cookie baking one here esp, also Walk and Carry
8. Do you get hate on fics?
nope! but i was lowkey concerned for the new non-con fic jdkskd But so far so good hahah
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
why yes i do. mm mostly the unhinged kind in some way hdksks but ig the lesbian wolfstar one is very tender too<3
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
not crossovers per se but we love a good AU of another fandom universe, my marauders Maze Runner Au is very dear to me, weâll see if she ever sees the light of the day

i think i can do a dialogue quite good but itâs hard for me to get into a zone or scenario where it comes to that naturally, but whenever it does happen? iâm super happy and proud of the result (thatâs why i like my hitmen jegulus microfic so much)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
probably that iâm not really good at creating a storyline/plot djskks thatâs something that does Not come easily to me and probably one of the only reasons i havent really finished any of my big fics or even their first chapters. If i have a plan/ a prompt or something in general i can orientate myself off of it flows super easily (all the microfics and Ant Pile) but coming up with something of my own is very hard and i often feel kinda bad about it too :,))

And Your Bird Can Sing: Chapter 10
Step 4-3
First, Previous.
Ao3.
Story under read-more.
âYou could have told me you know Spanish,â Derek pouts.
Ryer snickers. âOnly a little,â he says. âI grew up in Texas, so I heard it all the time, but Iâm not fluent myself.â
âBut you sounded so good!â
âIâm a singer,â Ryer says. âMouth sounds are kind of half my job. And again, I grew up around it, so the little accent things that are hard for non-native speakers are familiar to me, but that doesnât mean Iâm fluent.â
âDoes Dad know?â
Ryer makes a face. âI donât know? Itâs not like I ever hid it, but⊠itâs not like I ever had reason to sing in Spanish before, either. I just think Dos Orugitas is better in Spanish than English, soâŠâ
Well, in Derekâs humble opinion, Ryer isnât wrong about that. The English version is plenty heart wrenching, but Spanish, man.
Derek is so saving that recording to listen to always and forever. Itâs totally the last thing he expects to hear at Ryer and Archetypeâs campfire session, but damn if he isnât glad that thereâs a professional quality recording soon to be put up online with the rest of Ryerâs music.
âI actually know more German than Spanish, since I actually studied it for a while.â
âReally? I didnât know that.â
âOh, yeah. But, dude, I didnât know you speak Spanish.â
âMy name is SuĂĄrez.â
Ryer laughs. âThat doesnât mean anything. Iâve only ever heard your family speak English, and you donât have an accent, either, so I just figured youâre fully Americanized, I guess.â
Eh⊠thatâs honestly fair. Derek shrugs. âYouâre not wrong. Weâre Hispanic, sort of, but yeah, weâre mostly just American. Dad will be thrilled, though. Heâs the one that made sure my brothers and I could speak at least a little Spanish. I wouldnât say that part of our heritage is important to him, or even to Mom, really, but my abuela is definitely uh⊠heh. Well, sheâs an abuela. Iâm sure you know what I mean.â
âI have an idea, yeah,â Ryer chuckles. âKind of surprised I havenât met her, yet.â
âShe lives in Mexico. Iâm sure sheâll love you. Iâve told her about you, you know.â
âOof. Good things, I hope?â
Derek laughs. âOnly good things. Promise. And she loves music. Iâll send her your version of Dos Orugitas and sheâll love you almost as much as I do.â
âSo long as I can earn her approval with song, Iâm going to be fine. I hope.â
Derek just laughs and pulls his boyfriend close to snuggle. With his chin on Ryerâs shoulder, hugging him from behind, he says, âSo, does this mean you can whisper sweet nothings to me in three languages?â
Ryer hums thoughtfully, then grabs Derekâs hand and kisses the back of it. âMore like two. But with a little brushing up, I guess I could manage five.â
âFive? What are the other two?â
âIâm not just classically trained, remember. Iâm trained for classical music. Like, operas and shit. Most opera singers get at least some basis in German, French, and Italian. âCause most operas are in those languages. I went further in on German, but I do know something about the other two.â
âWow,â Derek breathes, legitimately in awe. âWill you?â
Ryer is quiet for a moment. ââŠHow serious are you?â
Derek blushes. âI⊠might have had a bit of a moment when you rolled that ârâ earlier.â
Ryer snorts. âYou and half my fanbase.â His expression changes suddenly as he adds, âAnd Connor.â Back to normal, he continues, âYou were watching the chat when I did that, werenât you?â
âAre you crazy? I was watching you.â
Derek feels immense satisfaction seeing Ryerâs cheeks pink. âOh,â Ryer says. âRight. âŠI guess it means more coming from you, anyway.â
âYou guess?â Derek gasps in mock offense.
âI guess,â Ryer repeats, reaching up behind him to hook Derekâs neck. He twists so their faces are towards each other. Quietly, insistently, he presses their lips together. âMaybe,â he says. Then he adds another kiss.
Thatâs A-okay, Derek thinks, so long as he keeps doing this.
âA lot of people have a thing for languages and accents,â Ryer muses quietly. âMe included, I guess, but I wonder why that is.â
âOh?â Derek says, grinning. âYou too, mi corazĂłn?â
âDerek.â
Derek just pulls Ryer even closer and whispers in his ear. âMi vida. Cariño.â
âDerek, really?â
âMi rey. Mi amor.â Derek kisses Ryerâs neck, then, feeling cheeky, adds, âPapi.â
That earns him a huff and stoic turn away that he definitely deserves, but itâs totally worth seeing Ryerâs face turn red.
âOho, we found a winner.â
âDonât you dare.â
Derek snickers. âYou sure? Not even when weâre alone?â He daringly lets his hands wander, trailing Ryerâs body. Over his chest, his abs, brushing his waistband (mostly accidentally) but no further.
Ryer fixes him with an unimpressed look. âIs that really what you want?â
Now itâs Derekâs turn to blush. âHey, Iâm teasing you right now. Donât turn this back around on me.â
Ryer smirks. He shrugs. âIâm just saying⊠thatâs not uncommon, either.â
âYeah, okay,â Derek mumbles. âShut up, papito.â
âI think thatâs a yes.â
âHmâŠâ Never let it be said that Derek is one to stay down. He buries his head once more in Ryerâs neck and murmurs. âMaybe a little. Not you?â
Ryer hums. âNot really, no. But I donât mind if thatâs what you like. But still a little weird if thatâs the only Spanish you ever use, though.â
Derek snickers. In his most put-upon voice he sighs, âOkay. Maybe we should use more Spanish, then. Iâm admittedly not the best at it, but Iâm sure my abuela would be thrilled if I learned.â
âIâm down,â Ryer says. âThatâs one of the things I actually miss about Texas. We could learn together if you want.â
âGreat,â Derek says. A bilingual â or multilingual house sounds actually amazing. Despite his heritage, and his more distant family speaking Spanish, Derek doesnât pick up all that much himself. Not enough to be conversational, at least, for sure.
Itâll be nice to explore that with Ryer.
They linger in the quiet for a while, neither feeling compelled to continue the conversation that comes to an end. But it does stir some thoughts that nag at Derek. Not in a bad way, just⊠thereâs a lot he doesnât know about Ryer.
Theyâre childhood friends, so one would think they know everything about each other, but the fact is that even though they do keep in contact, never really falling away even if there is sometimes a painfully long time between calls, they spend a whole lot of that time between that summer ten years ago and now totally separated from each other.
Itâs a little obvious in hindsight on account of Ryerâs musical training â Derek does know that he studied for opera â but Derek has no idea Ryer speaks so many languages until now. And he doesnât know a lot of other things, too.
âHey, Ryer?â Derek asks. He may as well just ask, right? This is his boyfriend, so if he canât ask him, who can he ask? âThe other day, you sort of⊠impliedâŠâ
Ryer raises his brow. âYou want to have sex?â
What the- âNo!â Derek protests instinctually. Then he realizes what he says and cringes. âI mean- yes- I mean-â
Ryer, the bastard, laughs at him. âSorry, sorry. Say what you were going to say.â
Now profoundly blushing, Derek nonetheless manages to ask. âI was just wondering⊠if youâve done it before. And, you know, if youâve had a relationship or⊠I donât know. Any exes I should be on the lookout for?â
Thankfully, Ryer doesnât tease him. He considers the question carefully, then answers honestly. âI have had sex before, yeah. Is that⊠a problem?â
âNo! Not at all!â Derek hugs him tight. âIâm just- I want to know more about you.â
Ryer loosens up a little, sinking back into Derek. âAlright, well⊠I was uh⊠nineteen? It really wasnât anything worth telling about. It was college, you know? I had⊠two, three partners over the years. Just exploring. No relationships, though. Paying for college on top of living expenses took up too much of my time to bother. Not that anyone ever asked me out, anyway, but, you know. What about you?â
âNah,â Derek answers. âThe truth is⊠I always hoped time would run out on the deal. The whole âif weâre still singleâ clause was always supposed to be an out for you. Personally, I⊠donât think I could have until the deal was up, one way or another. My heart wasnât up for trying anywhere else while I held onto that hope, and sex⊠at least the first time⊠seemed too intimate for someone I wasnât really serious about.
âIâm not against one-night stands, or anything,â Derek clarifies. âI just didnât want the first time to be like that. Maybe thatâs too romantic of me.â
âNo,â Ryer locks his fingers in Derekâs and kisses the back of his hand. âItâs cute. I get it. Honestly, when you brought up the deal before, I just couldnât believe you were still single. But when you put it that way⊠it makes more sense.â
Ryerâs phone chimes, in the moment of peaceful quiet that follows, and he checks it. âJamie. Iâm glad he caught the stream.â
âYeah,â says Derek. âHe was texting me the whole time. He freaked out when you started singing in Spanish, too.â
Ryer snorts, types something on his phone, then stops suddenly. âOh, crap,â he says. âDid you tell Jamie weâre dating?â
Of course, he- wait, does he? Derek intends to, for sure, but⊠it happens so late, then Ryerâs parents appear the next day⊠Derek doesnât even remember to tell his own family. âOh,â Derek says. âNo. It completely slipped my mind.â
Ryer frowns. âIt is still new⊠but even so, I think almost a week is enough that Jamie is going to be mad with us.â
âI wouldnât say mad,â says Derek. âBut⊠heâs not going to let us forget this.â
âWe should probably tell Mrs. and Mrs. Last, too, and your parents.â
âYeah.â
âOr,â Ryer says. âWe can not do that and see how long it takes for them to notice.â
Derek rolls his eyes. Admittedly⊠that sounds like fun. âThatâs not fair to Jamie. Heâs not here. We should at least tell him.â Plus, Derek does promise Jamie to call him when Ryer agrees to a date which is⊠definitely passed. âMy family though⊠Iâd bet a few minutes, max.â
âAlright, alright. The Lasts, too, honestly,â Ryer says. âBut how long would it take for them to mention it?â
âOh, that God only knows.â They both giggle. âBut really, I donât see it taking that long. When did you want to call Jamie?â
Ryer frowns for a moment, considering, then shrugs and says, âYou can call him now if you want.â
Feeling bad that he waits so long already, Derek does.
âHey Derek!â Jamie shouts first thing into the phone. âThat was awesome! Iâm so jealous you were there in person! Oh, hey, is Ryer there?â
âI am,â says Ryer. âHowdy, Jamie.â
âHey Ryer! Awesome stream!â Jamie shouts first thing into the phone. âCove and I had a ton of fun watching you guys.â
âHa, thanks,â says Ryer. âIâm glad you were able to make the time.â
âAre you kidding? Iâll always have time for you, bro.â
Ryer flushes a little but smiles and shakes his head. It falls on Derek, then, to say, âAnyway, Iâve got some news for you.â
âYeah? Whatâs up?â
âI asked Ryer out.â
Derek can actually hear Jamie shoot up. âNo way, really? You actually did it?â
âHey!â Derek protests. âDonât say that like Iâm helpless!â
âTen years, Derek!â Jamie squeals. Â âYou are helpless!â
âCome on,â Ryer says, âhe did it now, thatâs what matters.â
Jamie giggles. âYeah, youâre right. So, you two are dating, now?â
âThatâs right.â His eyes, though, find Derek. âTen years?â
Derek just makes a face. Like Ryer doesnât already know about that!
ââŠOops. Sorry, Derek.â
âHe already knows,â Derek says flatly.
Ryer winks. âBut I didnât know that Jamie knows. Is that what that was all about when we were younger? Were you trying to wingman for him?â
Jamie snickers. âYeah, guilty.â
Oh, he has no idea. Ryer smirks at Derek, sharing that thought. If only Jamie knew why his attempts to wingman were doomed from the start. Or that Ryer kisses Derek way back then in the first place, and they both already know â sort of â that the other likes them.
Ah, the feeling of something coming so late, but not regretting missing out. Derek definitely wishes heâd spent more time with Ryer and everyone else while he could in high school before they separated for university, but the actual dating part? That needs to be now, he thinks. Even in hindsight â especially in hindsight â it was always going to need time.
And now that theyâre adults and have their lives so much more sorted than before, even Derek who still feels a little like heâs floundering, Derek⊠thinks itâs a good thing. He thinks itâs okay that he doesnât experience that kind of teenage romance and high school love ideal.
He honestly thinks itâs better, at least for him, to come at it all a little more maturely. To realize that he doesnât need to be perfect first, even if heâs still working on it. To accept that heâs going to let Ryer down, even if heâll always try not to. Thereâs nothing wrong with learning in the moment through experience, but Derek is glad to have at least some of those hard lessons behind him before starting something that- that is terrifyingly important to him.
Or maybe thatâs just remnants of his lingering desire to not start anything at all until heâs sure it will turn out well. Better to put it off, to make a stupid deal to date in ten years, than to dare say something now and stumble through something unprepared and disappoint Ryer.
Jamie pushes right on ahead. âAnyway, itâs about time you got together! Oh, man, Iâm so happy for you guys! Weâve got to go on a double date once Cove and I are back in town.â
Ryerâs face tells Derek just how eager he is for that to happen. Oh, boy. Derek would like to do the double date himself, butâŠ
âI donât know,â Ryer says. âIt might be hard to schedule.â
Thereâs a moment of quiet, then a soft sigh. âYeah, I guess so. But Iâm sure we could figure something out, even if it takes a while.â
Ryerâs reluctance is palpable. Derek is at a complete loss for what to do. Heâd enjoy a double date, himself, and he knows heâll find the time somewhere to make it happen if everyone else agrees, butâŠ
Itâs not that Ryer has obstacles in the way like scheduling and work. Itâs just that he doesnât want to.
Jamie goes too long without an answer. He murmurs, âYou can say no.â
âJamie,â Ryer says. His voice is sincerely pained. It cuts into Derekâs heart, too. âI-â
âYou never want to spend time with me,â Jamie says dully. âYou never have, ever since moms adopted you.â
âThey didnât adopt me,â Ryer says. It sounds like a reflex more than a true response, and Ryer grimaces the moment the words leave his lips.
âI guess not,â says Jamie. âBut I always⊠never mind. I know you never thought of us as family.â
Derek almost forgets about it in the moment, but Ryer says something to his parents the other day â that he does think of the Lasts as his family. But if thatâs the case⊠Jamie feels the way he does because Ryer avoids them like the plague. If Ryer thinks of Jamie as his brother, then why act that way? Derek canât make sense of it.
âJamie,â Ryer whimpers. âThatâs not-â
âItâs okay!â Jamie chirps, an admirable attempt at injecting cheer into his voice once more wavering through the microphone. âI get it. I guess you werenât actually adopted, soâŠâ
âYou donât get it,â Ryer says. He slouches, curling up into himself. Derek, watching this, is suddenly overcome. He canât resist the urge to take Ryer into his arms and hug him tight. âAnd thatâs my fault. Iâm sorry. I didnât knowâŠâ He sighs heavily. âNo⊠Of course, I knew. I was just-â
Ryer suddenly straightens, pushing off of Derek to support himself. âYou know what? A double date sounds- delightful,â he says. âFirst opportunity we have after youâre back, weâll do something. Howâs that sound?â
âYou donât have to force yourself. I know youâd rather not see me.â
âThatâs not it at all!â Ryer protests immediately. He glares at the coffee table. âDamn it, I alwaysâŠâ
âSeriously, Ryer, I didnât say that to guilt you into anything. I know you donât want to spend time with us, so- Iâm just happy that youâve got Derek. Heâs a good guy. One of the best. As long as youâre happy.â
Ryerâs jaw works like heâs trying to chew words out, but none come. His eyes are so desperate that Derek can only squeeze him tighter.
âForget the double date idea,â Jamie says, barreling on full steam ahead as he does. âBut you should go diving with Cove sometime, once weâre back. He misses his diving buddy.â As if Jamie doesnât miss his brother. âAnyway, itâs late. Thanks for letting me know whatâs going on. And good job again on the stream! Iâll let you go. Night, guys.â
Derek is halfway through considering if he should step in, try to keep Jamie on the phone and resolve whatever is going on in Ryerâs head, when the call cuts out. Jamie doesnât wait for a reply.
Heâs never been very good at hiding when heâs upset. It just usually only ever comes up in the first place because Ryer isnât there, so itâs rare that anything like this comes out in Ryerâs face.
But even though they keep it well away from Ryer, itâs hardly a new discussion. Derek doesnât understand, either. Heâs just lucky enough to be an outsider to it.
(He does sometimes wonder what might have happened if it was his family who fostered Ryer instead of the Lasts. His mom mentions that they consider it, and he knows his dad always wanted an even set of four kids anyway. The lynchpin of it all that made it end up going to the Lasts instead is that theyâre familiar with the very similar paperwork of getting approval for adoption, so they could get through the process of being approved faster, which was important to them since Ryer actually spent a short while fostered by strangers in the meantime. They wanted him back where heâs familiar and more comfortable, with his friends, as quickly as possible.
At the time, no one imagined how heâd end up reacting to the Lasts.)
Ryer stands suddenly, tearing out of Derekâs arms. Derek hesitates to follow only because he isnât sure how much Ryer wants to be touched. He paces back and forth almost manically, with a sort of scary expression on his face.
âDamn it!â Ryer exclaims suddenly, as loud as he can get without bothering the neighbors. âEvery time! Every fucking time!â His hands clench and unclench, flexing through all the energy he needs to get out.
âRyer?â Derek ventures quietly.
Ryer turns a stern, distant gaze to Derek. âTell me the truth, Derek. How long has that been happening?â
Derek flinches. âYou mean, JamieâŠ?â
âYeah, I mean Jamie,â Ryer growls. The closes his eyes then, takes a deep breath. âSorry. I shouldnât talk to you like that.â He turns on his heel, then, and falls back onto the couch. âFuck, I- You know, donât you? Heâs talked to you about it. How long?â
What can Derek do but answer? âAlways,â Derek says hesitantly. âSince they started fostering you. He noticed right away that⊠you stopped wanting to spend time with him. We all noticed.â
Ryer covers his face. His chest rises far, a deep, deep breath. âYouâre wrong, you know,â he says quietly. His voice is unsteady and even softer than normal. âI never stopped wanting to spend time with him. With any of them. I- I love the Lasts. All of them. Theyâre- theyâre my family.â
ââŠI donât think I understand,â Derek admits. He reaches out, but stops short. Ryer is still covering his face, he doesnât see, and Derek canât bring himself to actually touch him. Heâs half afraid itâll startle him, and though Ryer is comfortable with a lot of touching, he is definitely not okay with surprises. But also⊠Derek doesnât think Ryer wants his comfort right now.
Derek feels a little like heâs on Jamieâs side against Ryer right now. Itâs hard to reach across that line.
Ryerâs breath shakes. He runs his hands through his hair. âI⊠I donât know how to say it. I donât- I donât know how to make you understand. But⊠they all think that way, donât they? Moms and Liz, too, huh?â
Derek looks away. âI⊠canât speak for Mrs. and Mrs. Last, but⊠Liz has mentioned something like that before, yeah.â
âThen- then⊠I need to go home.â
âWhat?â
Ryer stands, determined. Derek stands as well, baffled in his wake. Heâs grabbed without warning, a hand tangled in his collar, and pulled down for a hasty kiss.
âSorry,â Ryer murmurs, âI need to go. I need to- I got to do something. Iâll talk to you tomorrow.â
Uh⊠Derek blinks dumbly. Ryer is out the door before Derek can piece anything together, and what little he manages is piecemeal and fragmented.
He⊠supposes heâll find out whatâs going on tomorrow? Maybe?
Although he really does wish Ryer would spend the night. Itâs lonely without him here.
But one lonely night isnât too harsh a curse. The worry is worse. Not knowing what Ryer is thinking or planning is much worse.
All he can really do at this point is wait. And trust his boyfriend.
It takes a long time to fall asleep. Derek is unusually tired in the morning because of it, but he still pulls himself out of bed to go through his workout and get ready for the day.
Heâs sitting at his kitchen counter, tapping impatiently, torn on whether to reach out or just be patient and see what happens, when his phone rings.
âRyer! Whatâs up? Is everything okay?â
âYeah,â says Ryer. âYouâre free today, right?â
âYep,â says Derek. He cautiously adds, âWant to do something?â
âThatâs the idea,â Ryer says. âJamie should be free this morning, and I think Liz is off today? She usually doesnât work on Sunday, at least, so I hope so.â
âUh-â
âHow soon can you make it to my place?â
âUh⊠fifteen minutes?â he answers. Unless he needs to be faster, then it depends how many laws he needs to break.
âGreat! Please come. I- I donât think Iâm brave enough to do this without you.â
What does that mean? âWhat are you planning?â
âNothing- nothing big. I promise. Itâs just⊠a little house party. I just need to get everyone together. I need to say what I should have said a long time ago. So⊠please?â
Oh. Well, Derek doesnât know exactly what needs to be said so much, but thereâs never any chance heâll turn Ryer down. âOf course Iâm there, mi vida. See you soon.â
âYeah. Thanks.â
âMm. Love you.â
The call ends. Derek doesnât know if Ryer doesnât hear him, or just doesnât reply. He sounds frazzled, so either seems likely enough.
Well⊠one thing left to do. Derek heads promptly for Ryerâs apartment, to whatever heâs planning for the day.
When he arrives, thereâs not much for him to do. And, in fact, itâs some time before anything really happens, anyway. Ryer makes calls, Derek doesnât know to who exactly, and Derek helps where Ryer lets him to set up the apartment for guests. (Which is a surprisingly easy process. Even though Ryer doesnât have any of them over much, or ever, he does occasionally host members of Archetype from time to time, so heâs not as unaccustomed to guests as Derek worries.)
As the day progresses, their guests arrive. First, itâs actually Derekâs parents. Nico comments on the apartment, which isnât dirty or untidy in any way, but is much more obviously a guyâs apartment than the family one the SuĂĄrezâ live in.
Then Mrs. and Mrs. Last knock at the door with Mr. Holden in tow. Derek tries to mind his own business, but he doesnât miss how the Lasts look around as if this is the first time they see this apartment at all.
It⊠might be.
It shouldnât be as strange as it is, considering itâs not that long ago that they are all together on Jamieâs last day visiting in Derekâs apartment, but some part of it all, maybe the simple fact that this is Ryerâs apartment, makes it seem strange to see everyone.
Ryer entertains everyone with his harmonica, despite the other instruments all over his apartment. Until a lull comes and he pulls Derek aside and holds that harmonica out to him.
Derek looks at it. His breath catches in his throat. âYou kept it? After all this time?â Derek breathes. He touches the worn, worn wooden plate. The paint is still visible, the shore and the birds frolicking there. The burned initials that Derek writes himself are nearly worn completely away. âI thought these didnât last that longâŠâ
âThe insides are all newer,â Ryer admits. âI even changed the key, actually, but⊠it meant a lot to me, you know. For a long time, my harmonica was all I had. Then my parents found out and broke it. But you- you gave me my music back. You put so much work into this.â Ryer smiles. âNot to mention, it was right after you gave me this that we agreed to our deal.â Oh, right. âHow could I ever get rid of it?â
âOh.â
Ryer shakes his head. âI love you.â He smiles one more time, then turns away to the room.
Derek grabs his arm, turns him back just long enough for a kiss, then happily sends him on his way.
To the parents, and Nico, who all are watching them smugly. (Derek supposes the whole not telling them thing lasts about as long as expected.)
âWell,â says Pamela Last, âwe were wondering why Ryer suddenly decided to invite us all over. I guess you two have an announcement?â
Ryer actually laughs. âGod,â he says, mussing up his own hair, âI wish that were the reason. But yeah, weâre dating now.â
âCongrats, you two!â Mr. Holden says.
âAbout time,â says Nico with a roll of his eyes.
Yeah, yeah. This is about what Derek expects. Heâll be grilled in more detail later. For now, Ryer is still center stage.
And he takes that stage in a way Derek only sees from him on recordings, during actual performances. Ryer steps up to the plate, guitar in hand, and places himself on a stool at the head of the whole gathering.
âSo,â comes Lizâs voice over someoneâs phone â Derek doesnât even realize until that moment that both her and Jamie are here through video call, âwhat is this about, then?â
Ryer bites his lip, plucks a little at his guitar, then closes his eyes and explains. âI⊠havenât treated you fairly. I realized when I talked to Jamie last night that⊠thereâs a whole lot that Iâve never actually said aloud.â
âYou?â Liz says. âNo way.â
Ryer chuckles. âBelieve it or not,â he says. With a shake of his head, he says, âBut itâs something that really needs to be said. Iâm sorry Iâve never said it before. I was just- I am just⊠terrified. So⊠so I picked a song to maybe be a sort of⊠starting point. Itâs mostly for Mrs. and Mrs. Last, but⊠everyone here, really. I hope youâll listen.â
âOf course, we will, honey,â Noelani Last says gently. âTake it at your own pace.â
Ryer gulps hard, nods, and starts playing at the guitar again.
And he sings.
âThereâs a voice that pulls me stumbling through a symphony
And the less of it I need the more I get
Till Iâm swept up by the shape of all the centuries
Like an echo in the chambers of my chestâ
Itâs melancholy, longing even? Itâs hard to pinpoint just what it plucks at in Derekâs chest, but it tugs even before Ryer gets to any lyrics that really resonate.
âI think she fears Iâll be a servant to my history
Or worse, a slave to someone elseâs misplaced doubts
So I try too hard to kill whatâs out to kill me
Till Iâm blind and hiding in the lionâs mouthâ
Oh. And all of a sudden something makes sense. Itâs not quite there, not a full thought, but the little voice pulling him away, louder the less itâs actually necessary, overcompensating to the point of neglecting something important⊠thatâs all something Derek can relate to.
Ryer keeps singing. Everyone listens silently. Then Ryer sings,
âAnd of all the thousand ways the world could tempt me
Iâve never met a better fighter than her fearâ
Derek scoots over to rub Noelani Lastâs shoulder â sheâs crying. Derek realizes about now what Ryer is really trying to say. Even though heâs been afraid, whatever his reason for not being close to the Lasts â to any of them, really â he never stops thinking about them. Their care for him protects him. It means something, no matter how ungrateful he appears.
âSo as I try to breathe the air that she is breathing
And we dance a lightless dance upon my floor
I am burning to tell her sheâs all Iâm needing
But Iâm drowned out by all the noise outside the doorâ
The song is a little difficult to interpret right away, but the struggle is clear enough. Ryer is trying. He has been trying.
The guitar grows quiet. It isnât stopped yet. Ryer doesnât look at any of them.
âCarried by the current of the morning
Miles below the surface of the dawn
This is not the place that I was born in
But it doesnât mean itâs not the place where I belong.â
No one really says anything when Ryer is finished. No one really can, except for Ryer himself. He pushes his hair back, then says, âIâm sorry. I spent all night trying to figure out how to say this, and all I came up with is a song I didnât even write.â He laughs helplessly. âBut⊠I really am sorry. Moms- Liz, Jamie⊠Everyone, but especially you guys. Youâre the reasons Iâm here. You saved me. You supported me. I could do what I did because you were there. I was only able to walk away from you guys like I did because I knew you were there behind me. And Iâm so sorry that I let you go thinking I donât appreciate that.â
Both Last women look just about ready to spring out of their seats to hug Ryer, but Jamie speaks up first. âI still donât understand,â he says. âIf thatâs how you really feel⊠why did you spend so much time avoiding us? I thought⊠I thought you didnât think of us as familyâŠâ
Ryer shakes his head. He sniffs and wipes at his eyes. âItâs because youâre my family, Jamie. Because Iâm an idiot and Iâm terrified of you. Because I couldnât lose a second family, and I always mess up everything, soâŠâ
âSo the best thing you could do is stay away?â
Ryer curls up a little. He answers, âSomething like that.â
Thereâs no holding back after that. Just about everyone dives in for the group hug.
Itâs not a boisterous night, after that, but it is a pleasant one. A lovely family gathering. Mrs. and Mrs. Last kiss both Ryer and Derek goodbye, when they leave, and then Derekâs mom does the same, echoing her support for them.
Ryer texts Jamie and Liz throughout the night, too, though Derek isnât privy to those conversations. But the smile on Ryerâs face says it goes well.
Derek promises himself that he wonât let Ryer renege on this. Not just for Ryerâs sake, but Jamieâs and the rest of the Lasts, as well. Even when he isnât actively avoiding Jamie, Ryer isnât the most social person, and thatâs fine. He doesnât have to go to everything they do together. But⊠Derek is here now, too. He knows what Ryer really wants. He knows that avoidance is only fear.
So, he thinks the Lasts will be okay, but heâs going to do his part. That family⊠All that he owes them⊠Anything he can do for them, he will.
It takes some time, but eventually, Derek and Ryer are alone.
Derek takes him by the hand. He guides him gently, slowly, to the bedroom. Between sweet, longing kisses, he slips his hands under Ryerâs clothes to strip him, and likewise disrobes himself.
He⊠isnât exactly sure what to say. He feels like he should say something. But Ryer doesnât seem to want him to. Ryer only smiles adoringly at him and says everything he could possibly say with his expression.
I love you. Youâre the reason I made it this far. I admire you. You made me brave enough to do this. I love you.
So, Derek smiles in turn, tucks that dangling piece of hair behind Ryerâs ear, returns those sentiments with kisses down Ryerâs throat, and murmurs, âBedtime, Papi?â
Ryer snorts. âYeah,â he whispers. âLetâs go to bed.â

Hi again! Yes that was the post I was thinking of ^ ^
But Iâm glad to hear that youâre willing to write a fic about it, it was really sweet and I would love to see you expand on the concept (*^âœ^*)
Hello, Lovely~!
I believe this is a follow-up to this ask, and I thank you for your patience as I finally fleshed out the story I was thinking about.
Hope you enjoy!
ââThe sun had long since set, hours having passed since night had settled quietly over the city. Â She had crept into every alley, embraced every insomniac, whispered quietly on the warm breeze. The evening hung heavily on the air, beckoning gently to anyone who tried to defy sleepâs sirenous song.
Everyone, except you.
You had exhausted every remedy you could think of, even those sillier ones you would have mocked in the daylight. But Sleep continued to evade you, repeatedly teasing you, but never truly offering satisfaction.
You could already hear a certain someone's voice tauntingly saying: "Told ya so."
Asshole.
Resigned to your fate, every attempt to court Slumber only driving her further from your embrace, you decided to vacate your chambers, bound for the library; maybe Monika had left one of her stuffy physics books behind.
You were less than surprised to find someone else already in the room, hunched over the great oak desk, piles of paperwork organised into tidy stacks around him. A warm fire crackled in the fireplace, luring you forward from the dark corridor.
You were relieved, more than you'd admit, that you weren't the only one dancing with Insomnia, but then again Gil was practically married to his sleepless nights.
You lingered just inside the doorway, leaning lightly against the frame, watching as he worked. His eyes darted from one page to the next, the scratching of his pen against the paper pleasantly comforting in the late hour.
The whole scene was comforting really: the soft scents of old books and woodsmoke (beech or ash probably, given his preferences), the golden glow of flame reflecting off the cream colored walls, the scratch of Gil's pen and his occasional muttering-
It filled you with a warmth that was all-encompassing, irresistibly inviting.
You lingered there for a few moments, a smile creasing your features, a familiar fondness settling in your chest. His forehead was resting on his right hand, his elbow supporting the whole affair from atop the desk.
Between the soft blue glow of his laptop screen and the gentle golden corona provided by his lamp, he almost looked like he was swathed in sunlight, pale features even more pronounced against the darkness of his hoodie.
You felt your smile grow bigger when you recognized the detailing, remembering just how excited he had been when you first gave it to him.
A good memory- his joy had been infectious, grin almost blindingly bright for the rest of the day.
Your thoughts returned to the present as you heard him sigh tiredly, mumbling again to himself, a yawn escaping not even two breaths later. He shook himself out of it with a stretch and a groan, offering you a glimpse of his mussed hair and favorite purple glasses.
He hadn't seen you, even as he cracked his neck, his focus drawn instead to the hand-crafted clock Ludvig had gifted him back in the '90s. (Which '90s your precious Liebhaber apparently couldn't be bothered to ever confirm for you.)
"ScheiĂe; es ist spĂ€t." He sounded surprised, his eyes widening in realization. He turned back to his work, a pensive look crossing his features, and you slipped further into the room, sensing your opening.
"Later than I'd like," you exhaled, just loud enough for him to hear you. His attention turned to you for a moment and away again, before he was offering a double-take, expression morphing into seemingly exaggerated surprise.
"Liebe? It's almost 4; what are you doing up?"
You sighed in defeat, shuffling over to sit on his desktop beside him. "Can't sleep," you admitted begrudgingly, his small snicker only making that confession all the more bitter. "And I swear if you say 'I told you so-'"
"Which I did," he crowed, though quieter than normal.
"You're such an ass," you protested with a small whine, moving your hand to halfheartedly smack his shoulder, though he easily caught it, taking you captive.
His smile was less teasing, revealing more of that soft, sleepy Gilbert only you were truly privy to. The firelight danced in his eyes, and sparks tingled across your wrist as his thumb drifted across the skin. "Tired?"
"Exhausted," you confirmed with a languid sigh. "But my mind's too awake for my body to sleep."
"Have you tried-"
"I've tried everything, babe," you almost whined. Almost.
He said nothing for a while, the silence between you comfortable in its familiarity, a light, gentle presence. These moments were more frequent as of late, and you couldn't help thinking of his mumbling to himself earlier, an idea starting to take shape.
"Hey, Schöner?"
"Leibchen?"
"Could you read to me?"
He stilled, the sudden loss of his drifting thumb all too obvious, your skin chilling at the loss of movement. You watched his eyes narrow, brows drawing together as he studied you, confusion clear in his eyes. "Read to you?"
"Yeah?" Suddenly bashful, you looked away from him. "I like your voice; it's really soothing."
The silence shifted, suddenly a new sensation, something indecipherable and uncomfortable.
He still hadn't moved, his thumb lingering above your pulse, fingers still carefully circling your wrist.
He was probably still trying to process your confession; you knew many had told Prussia throughout the centuries that he was too loud, his voice too rough- each and every insult growing more colorful as time passed. And recently, incomprehensible to you, came a strange stigma against Germanic accents entirely.
It would be a lie to claim you hadn't been a bit put off by his voice back in the beginning, a bit of an adjustment period needed as you grew familiar with it. But you lived by that voice now, recognized its inflections, cherished its novelty. His voice had become Home in its own way, and nothing brought you more peace than the moments when you could completely let it wash over you.
Confessing that to him though? Embarrassing. And really, you wouldn't know how to say it.
Yet, that was the thing with him; he had always been a bit more clever than he let on, at least when it came to the people he loved.
Especially when it came to you.
His thumb shifted, reclaimed your attention faster than his words. "Say I agreed... What would you want?"
You turned back to meet his eyes again, surprised and relieved by the softness of his expression, your heart lightened at the sight of it. "Friedy once told me about this story you read to him? Something about a knight?"
He silently repeated your words to himself, brows furrowing in thought. Suddenly aware of how little you had narrowed down his options, you added further clarification. "He said you started reading it to him after 'The Rapunzel Incident,'" you finished with an air quote.
When the middle Beilschmidt Brother had first told you the story of Gilbert having a meltdown over a Grimm's Fairy Tale, you had only half-believed him, knowing the man had picked up a tiny bit of Gil's habits of over-exaggeration.
Yet the expression that crossed your lover's face- mortified, frustrated, amused, defeated, annoyed- confirmed the validity of Friedrich's claims; you couldn't repress your grin as Gil groaned, his head falling back against his chair. "I can't believe that little hellion told you about that."
You shifted the leg closest to his, lightly bumping his thigh with your foot. "But 's cute."
He huffed, unconvinced, before he was raising his head again, slanting a glance your way. "I never translated it from German; you sure?"
"Mm-hm," you hummed in confirmation, tugging your wrist closer so you could press a quick kiss to his hand. "Pretty please?"
Somehow, you had had convinced him, and a few minutes later he had dug out his collection of journals from the 1810s, a well-loved leather-bound tome left sitting on the couch. While Gil painstakingly sorted his collection back into its proper place, you couldn't help but flip carefully through the book left beside you.
Every few pages bore a new date, this one far more inconsistent than his others.
Not a daily project, then.
You let the scent of the old paper surround you, marveling at his manuscript. Gil claimed constantly that he had horrible handwriting, yet you were always in awe by how formal it was, even hoarding some of the sticky notes and grocery lists he "scribbled." There was a definitive slant to his words in this edition, an angle that hinted that he had actually written this one left-handed, as opposed to the right he usually he favored for his record-keeping.
You felt a soft smile, even if it went unnoticed until Gilbert was pointing it out to you. "What's with the face?"
"Nothin," you chirped, a hint of your sleep deprivation playing a role in the sudden volume.
With a doubtful expression, he moved to sit beside you, taking a position against the arm of the couch, soon beckoning you to join him.
A flutter of happy energy propelled you forward, and you instinctively cuddled into his side. He chuckled at your behavior, in a way that you knew included a fond roll of the eyes, before he dropped his face into your hair, humming quietly. "Seriously, Liebchen. I could read you anything else."
His warmth was already weaving into your bones, already guiding Sleep back to your reach. Your eyes fluttered shut, the soft smile only growing warmer, gentler. "Ja, but you're already got this one out. And I'm comfy," you impishly added on, earning an equally quiet, playful grunt in reply.
His thumb was tracing circles, shivers left in the wake of each repetition. The tingling traveled all the way to your toes, only aiding your descent into Dreamland. "You won't understand a word of it. You do realize that, right?"
He had a point there.
But there was...
There was something...
You let out a small yawn, fighting to open your eyes, almost pouting as you tried to formulate your thoughts into something coherent. After a moment it came to you, and you leaned further into him, your ear coming to rest over his heartbeat. "I don't need to know what you're sayin' to hear the love behind it."
"Gott, du bist niedlich."
You never got a chance to ask him to confirm what he had just whispered, too distracted by the kiss he immediately pressed to your crown. He lingered there, his breath evening enough to almost convince you that he had fallen asleep beneath you.
But you knew his heartbeat just as you knew his voice, as you knew your own heart and your own thoughts. Lightly moving your arm, you grumbled out a complaint. "You promised to read to me."
You could feel the smile in your hair. "I don't remember making any 'promises,' Schatz," he observed, the lightness of words showing he was teasing you again.
"Gil..." You pleaded, too tired to continue this back-and-forth.
"Ja, ja; okay," he conceded, gently taking the book from your hands. "Any place special you want me to start?"
An old memory came to mind at his wording, your reply coming out in a light sing-song. "'Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.'"
He scoffed, unconsciously humming along as he turned to the first page. "Here we go. 'Es was einmal-'"
Gilbert was a natural storyteller, so it wasn't a surprise that he was also gifted when it came to reading aloud, his words soon picking up a steady rhythm. His intonation rose and fell with different sentences; his voice changing whenever he came across a piece of dialogue. You weren't entirely sure of the story, but he had at least three different characters in play, and despite your nescience, you could almost imagine the action.
You had relaxed fully into him, were certain that you were drifting in-and-out of consciousness.
The world was heavy, and his words were a gentle embrace, his voice a warm anchor. You were tethered to it, letting it guide you throw each wave of wakefulness and slumber, thoughts dancing precariously on the boundary between whim and reverie.
A disgruntled growl kept you grounded in reality however, irritation scraping across the canvas your imagination had been conjuring.
Your eyes slowly opened, and you turned your attention to Gil's voice, frowning at the frustration in his words.
"Und den Ritte-? Nein. Was ist..? Dem...? Nein; das ist... Was zum Teufel?"
You barely repressed a giggle as you finally caught a glimpse of his expression, the exasperation all the more amusing from your current position. He had lifted the journal closer to his face, eyes narrowed and forehead wrinkled as he tried making out his own handwriting.
"Was ist- Oh."
His eyes closed, and his head drooped in defeat, features creased in bewilderment. "Ich bin ein Idiot," he muttered, before his eyes reopened, a wince soon marring his features when as he noticed your staring. "Ah, fich."
You offered a bemused expression, eyes shivering shut as he pressed a small kiss to your crown, breathing out his apology in a rush of syllables. "Es tut mir lied."
Barely a beat had passed before he shifted back into storyteller mode, picking up the tale from the place he had left off. "Und der Ritter-" he over-enunciated, letting out a small chuckle (triggering your own giggle) as he successfully translated his own penmanship, carefully continuing in the quiet, gentle voice from earlier.
Despite the temporary pull back into the land of waking, it wasn't long until Gilbert's voice once more had you entranced, the continued dance of his thumb following the rise and fall of each syllable, each sound elongated and subdued, a drowsy, hypnotic serenade that was greedily pulling you under its spell.
"Sleep, Liebe," you heard, felt, all around you, a warm, gentle command that tugged you further into the depths. Whether it was real or imagined didn't matter; between the crackling flames, the warmth of his embrace, and the steady rise-and-fall of Gil's voice, it wasn't long until you were finally succumbing to Sleep's soft embrace.â
Thanks for reading!

summary: the production of genshin impact is amazing! now letâs see what the actors are really like separate from their characters
style & genre: bulleted; modern!au, general fic
warnings: mentions of drinking
notes: another idea thatâs popped into my head! this is pretty random but iâll be updating more parts if you guys like itâșïžÂ
Aether and Lumine arenât actually related in real life, they just look so much alike that they thought they were long lost siblings. Even off set they act like brother and sister because it feels natural after spending so much time together
Their phone contacts for each other are âmy twinâ and their greetings are always âi found you!â
Paimon uses a green suit to hide the lower half of her body but when she was getting used to âflyingâ around, she would forget that she didnât actually fly and would step on other cast membersâ toes: most of which were Aetherâs
Bennett is the luckiest guy on set and actually pulled two five stars in a ten pull and hit 30 pulls to get another five star, however, he is really clumsy and trips over air every three seconds even if he watches where he walks
Diluc and Kaeya donât hate each other but have a mutual rivalry over certain beverages. At one point they stopped talking to each other for a whole day because Diluc said the alcohol Kaeya brought him tasted cheap
Speaking of Diluc: he, Aether, and Albedo use the same brand of hair oil, only to realize when they sat next to each other and commented how familiar their âcologneâ was
The drinking buddies (Kaeya, Beidou, Rosaria, Venti, Lisa, and Scaramouche) hang out on their days off sometimes
Klee really likes to be around Kaeya or Albedo because she thinks theyâre good-looking. She gets excited when sheâs in the same scene with either one of them so her personality is really genuine on screen
Albedo keeps chapstick in his pocket and uses it periodically between scenes. He zones out quite a lot because he gets bored easily. Yells at people to hydrate but in like a calming voice
Qiqi is already a pretty quiet kid but she likes to act and her role was perfect for her. You might see her sitting in the directorâs chair when the cameras are rolling because they want her to see what sheâs a part of. aw
Mona likes her hat and keeps it on most times but it always wacks people in the face when she turns. She doesnât mind when it hits Scaramouche because he has his own hat. They have impromptu hat battles sometimes to which the costume designers get nervous about
Fischl canât speak German for the life of her and she really likes Jojoâs and laughs in references with Razor. You might think sheâs still in character off camera but no, thatâs just her
Zhongli is possibly the richest person on the set but everyone else pays for all of his expenses just because. He does pay for everyoneâs coffee especially when they have an early morning shoot
Scaramouche, Keqing, and Xiao have a group chat where they poke fun at other cast members showing up late and then proceeding to roast them behind their backs
They also like to change their lines in the middle of a shoot like Keqing ranting about the archons but instead she replaces them with other cast memberâs names; Scaramouche replacing âwhen did i give you permission to issue your own ordersâ with âiâm hot arenât i;â and Xiao repeatedly saying âcan i eat something other than almond tofu pleaseâ or âi feel bad for this guy, he needs a hugâ while looking straight into the camera
Xiao is actually a shy guy who is very kind to everyone around him so the cast was surprised when he started saying character lines because they never heard that tone in his voice before. He was mildly flustered afterwards from the compliments
Out of all the cast members, Aether forgets his lines the most even though he doesnât say that much. When he forgets he autopilots to âwindblade!â
The younger cast have a group chat to keep each other accountable for their early shooting times. But they all forget and end up late to the reading table
Signora actually did punch Venti in the stomach too hard on accident and they had to take a break as she apologized profusely to which Venti kept reassuring her that it was fine; got his gnosis back after the scene was over as symbolism for âiâm sorry i punched you in the gut really hardâ
Barbara sings like an angel and the theme song for the series is written and sung by her
Childe stared at his prop bow for a good five minutes when he first got it and told the director that he didnât prepare in using a bow but for âdual-wielding.â (plot twist: they never actually told him he was using a bow as a weapon but they knew he was a fast learner). All of the shots of him using it are genuine confusion as to how the thing works
One time with his last shot, he threw the bow on accident and hit Bennett
During the cast interviews, Venti likes to do them all with Zhongli or Xiao because they actually let him talk as much as he wants without overpowering his already loud voice
When he does it with Paimon, they tend to blow out the surrounding peopleâs eardrums so they were never paired again haha
Other interview pairings are Ningguang and Beidou and people like watching them together because of how soothing they sound and just the overall way they talk to each other
The opposite with Kaeya, Childe, and Lisa interviews. They keep flirting with the interviewers and viewers
âHey girlies, watch the next episodeâ wInK
âSeize the day. Watch us again tomorrow night 8:30pm PSTâ wOnK
âWhat a cutie, would you like to see us again?â im blushing
Honestly, anyone could listen to Zhongli talk all day so he has longer interviews because even the people asking the questions want to keep him for longer
The whole cast is like one big family and whether theyâre protagonists or not, they all have a close bond behind the scenes

How do you feel about ns*w prompts?
If you want, how about how medic, sniper and engie are acting during sexy times ? Or foreplay if you prefer !
I've been kinda thinking about doing stuff like that for a while so I decided why not now? It's not gonna be my first time writing it but it is my first time posting this stuff so fair warning.
NO CHILDREN BEYOND THIS POINT I SWEAR TO GOD DON'T YOU DARE-
Medic
Okay so like, I don't know if it's just me but like I kinda see Medic as a bit ace? Like he doesn't usually think about that type of stuff and it's very rare that he feels this sort of pull, but he won't reject doing it if you want to either.
You'd need to be very blunt with the man. It's not that he's dumb, he just doesn't pick up well on social cues in the first place so he doesn't want to assume anything.
He's never one to initiate. Like ever. You want some? You best come get it.
Kinks? Literally whatever the fuck you're into. Man does not give a fuck. He'll indulge in the most insane shit if you're up for it. He had no line that can't be crossed. He loves experimenting. (I mean that's what he does 98% of the time anyway)
Mega switch. He can be the absolute whiniest sub and the most controlling dom. It's almost scary how good he is at both.
Foreplay can be common or not happen at all. Again it depends entirely on what his partner wants and if you want him to spend an hour just touching you then that's exactly what he'll do.
He holds no shame if caught. Everyone knows better than to say shit to the person that's literally in charge of their bodily functions. No one dares to say a word if they catch the two of you.
He will often slip into German in the heat of the moment so whatever he saids is completely lost on you. (He's honestly just saying random shit but you don't need to know that)
His favorite position is downward dog. Something about hearing your muffled moans just kinda does it for him.
For him, it's more of a casual thing. Like a 'sure, why not'.
Overall whoever he's with gets to decide what smexy time will be like.
Sniper
This man has one hell of a sex drive. It's honestly surprising he hasn't exploded from the number of times he's found himself in a situation where he just really needed that release but couldn't get it that moment.
One small comment, purposeful or not, has him wanting you. There have been more than a few times he's heard the wrong meaning in your words, flustering and really pushing him.
He doesn't initiate it so much as you can see that he really really needs it. He'll deny himself no matter how worked up he gets and it's up to you to shove some reality in his face and give him what he wants.
Man is a full dom when he's in the mood though. I'm talking you won't even know what's happening before he has you against a wall, whispering the dirtiest things you've ever heard in your ear. Which is frankly surprising since he was usually so easily flustered. It's almost shocking how quickly he changes from flustered mess to confident and absolutely fucking H O T.
He doesn't venture into the world of kinks much. He likes it rough and messy, not complicated. He'd rather be the one to hold you down than have some rope do it for him. That doesn't mean he won't try if you ask though.
He draws a hard line with extreme stuff. He will never harm you and would never like to be harmed by you.
If he trusts you enough, and you play your cards right, he can become a melted mess. Sometimes he just really likes to give up all control to you and honestly, it just makes him hotter.
He's definitely the type to use semi-demeaning words but not in a way to put you down. Something like 'you're such a good lil' slut for me'
Voyeurism is something he's turned on about but deathly afraid to do. He's had many a fantasy of fucking where he might get caught but actually getting caught would probably embarrass him to unimaginable lengths. So to indulge in these fantasies he'll do so when you both go camping. No one's around yet the thrill is still there.
He most often likes to fuck you into a wall of some kind. He likes how the position makes it a bit harder to look at anything but him. Your expressions are what he practically lives for.
Foreplay is rare. He's often too worked up to think about it. He mostly likes to get straight to the good part. So when he gives you the reins he can often be even more of a mess if you prefer soft touches and a slower session.
How casual it is depends on how long he's been with you. For the first year they tend to be more rare and often very intense sessions. Once he's more comfortable with you though it can become extremely common and more casual with those intense sessions sprinkled in now and then.
Overall he's a bit hard to predict. You'll start off thinking he's going to be a nervous mess under your fingers before he turns around and fucks you until you can't stand anymore. Then after a while you get to take control and do the same to him.
It's a win/win
Engie
A decent sex drive. Usually he's very good at controlling his urges and keeping them in check but when he wants it damn does he want it bad.
He's a man of words. Nothing, and I mean nothing will get him going faster than a suggestive comment. Keep talking and you'll have him hooked in moments.
Despite what one might think, Engie is a dom. Look, you listen to him when his voice gets deep and tell me he doesn't use that tone to turn on whoever he's with. Man's knows every way to turn someone on without even touching them.
Is most likely the one to initiate. He likes to start it off with a little bit of light touching so it's very often that he turns what was supposed to be a cuddle session or a short kiss into something a lot more.
HUGE praise kink. He's going to compliment each part of your body in the sexiest way he can. Stuff like 'ya sound beautiful when you're beggin sweetheart' and 'ain't you just the most perfect thing ah've ever seen'. He is going to make even the most stone-cold mercenary flush with how good he is at talking dirty.
Foreplay is this man's forte. He's good with his hands and his tongue and you can be damn sure he's using both to his advantage. Kisses all around your body, whispered words that send shocks through your skin, soft touches that send shivers down your spine, he's good at it all.
To him it has to be intimate. He's not one for casual. If he's going to do anything with you it's going to be slow and romatic. He doesn't like anything quick, it just doesn't do it for him. He wants to hold your body, to feel every bit of skin revealed to him.
He doesn't want anyone disturbing his moment with you and it will annoy him to no end if someone does. He'll quickly cover you before throwing whatever's closest to him at whoever disturbed the session. Despite this, he has a huge thing for spontaneous sessions rather than planned ones. This means that you two have done it more than a few times in his workshop. Luckily at this point everyone's learned to just not come in if the doors are closed, no matter how important it is. He's not going to talk or help anyone until he's finished.
He has a different set of nicknames that are saved especially for smexy time. These include 'cute lil' thing, sugar, angle' and a few others. Upon hearing any of those nicknames you'll know exactly what he's planning to do.
He likes it when you ride him. He very much enjoys the hold he has on your hips as you bounce on top of him, not to mention your face contorted in pleasure that he gets a front-row seat to.
Overall he's a man of foreplay and long passionate sessions.

1918, the Western Front of WWI
The prisoners are held in a small, hastily constructed sort of barracks far too close to the front lines.
Gefrieter Erich Eeten knows why, of course. The hope is that his own people will hesitate before they blast this bit of dirt apart, that they will be concerned enough about killing their fellow soldiers that theyâll give up a few key moments of pause to the French, the Americans, and the British. Give them the advantage in a firefight.
They want to shield themselves with the bodies of the men in this tent, unwashed and dirty, who are exhausted from a day spent digging trenches for their enemies to hide in.Â
He canât exactly blame the Allied powers for it.Â
Itâs a brilliant bit of strategy, if less and less effective as men on both sides become so battle-hardened that they cease to care about their own lives, let alone each other. Still. Heâd almost rather be at one of the true POW camps further away from the front lines, where the Red Cross at least comes to check on their treatment.
Here, so close to the front, there is no one keeping watch on what happens to them at all⊠and the longer the war draws on, the more viciously they kill each other, the more the prisoners kept here too far for oversight feel like they are teetering at the edge of some terrible invisible cliff.Â
Thereâs a stiff breeze outside the tent, whipping the heavy, waterproofed canvas edges. Theyâre flapping a little, making a sound that Erich will one day hear in his nightmares. The cold sneaks in through the slight space between tent and ground, and the men in here are huddled together for warmth, sharing the meager blankets they are given.Â
At least, though, their captors are officially the French.Â
Say what you will about the blasted frogs, they never deny their prisoners a nip of strong cognac to help hold off the cold. The Americans, on the other hand, seem to be laboring under an enforced lack of good liquor, not just for prisoners but for their own soldiers, too. That seems a worse crime than nearly any other, in circumstances like this. To force a man to be a cruel killer without even a nip or three to soothe his conscience⊠to Erich, it sounds like brutality.
Thereâs a bit of a scuffle outside the tent, and the prisoners look up. Erich is at the back, leaning back against the rough frame of a cot he sleeps on at night, cards in his hands wrapped in strips of bandage cloth just for warmth. What happened to his gloves, heâs no idea. Probably one of the Allies took them for a souvenir.
The canvas wraps work well enough.
âAu garde-Ă -vous, prisonniers! Sur vos pieds!â Erich knows the voice - itâs the main guard of the tent they sleep in, a man named Alain who looks entirely too old for war. Here he is, anyway, all moustache and silvering hair, pulling open the entrance of the tent, moving the flap aside.Â
Erich glances left and then right, meeting the eyes of his fellow prisoners, and the half-dozen of them that share this single small tent push heavily to their feet, shifting apart as much as the tent will allow, hands behind their back.Â
His stomach dips, a low drumbeat of dread alongside his heart. Something tells him this isnât a social call he wants to be part of.Â
Heâs even more certain when a tall, thin American steps into the entrance, nearly silhouetted by the dim, barely-there light behind them. Their hair is long, in a loose plait with parts undone, and their eyes gleam, briefly seeming to glow in the dark. Erich is reminded of his motherâs cat, who would stalk mice at night and whose eyes did just the same when light hit them.
He feels very⊠mouselike.
They wear a medicâs uniform, but itâs a little tattered. There are unrepaired bullet holes through the heavy woolen tunic, and they move with grace and disdain for how heavy wet wool must be, how itchy and uncomfortable. As if it simply doesnât matter to them.
Because, of course, it doesnât. The damn thing is a walking corpse, baring fangs in a grisly smile.
âHello, soldiers,â They say, in a voice that isnât quite a purr. âYou all look a fright.â
âVerdammte Blutsauger,â Lukas MĂŒller mutters to his right.Â
Erich hates the bloodsuckers. Everyone does. They come with the Americans, monsters brought from the shadows as a kind of secret weapon. Erich has never seen vampires out in the open before - back home, they are creatures of hiding. They live in cellars and basements and houses with the windows painted in thick matte black. They sweep along the streets at night, a risk for anyone who stays out too late.
But theyâre not part of anything.Â
Here, theyâre death itself, demons quite at home in hell.
Oh, sure, the Americans claim they use them only for bringing the injured back to safety - and some of them, heâs sure, are kept to that purpose. Some kind of ability to deny the truth of them, if there are enough seen doing only what the official story claims.
Erich, though, has seen one dispatching wounded German soldiers one by one left behind in a field, killing them before they can be recovered by their own people. Heâs seen one with fangs buried in the throat of a man who would otherwise have lived. Theyâre listed as medics, but those things are what keeps the Germans on their own side of the battle lines after dark, and everyone knows it.Â
His own side brings canisters of poison gas. The Americans respond with an army laced around its edges in abominations the gas canât touch.
The vampire sighs, faintly disappointed. âNo good morning for me from my audience?â
Erich speaks the best English out of them all - his grandmother was English, taught it to his father in the cradle, who taught it to him. Itâs made him more or less the spokesman for his small group of prisoners, and for the larger group when they are moved and briefly allowed to interact with the others. He clears his throat, stepping forward slightly. Lukas and Vilhelm, on his other side, nudge him just a little with their shoulders. Itâs meant to be support, he supposes.Â
He feels like heâs being pushed onto a target painted on the floor, one invisible only to him.Â
âGood morning,â Erich says, voice flat, letting his accent roll far more heavily off his tongue than it needs to, turning good into gut. Itâs always good to let the enemy believe you know less than you really do, so he pretends that English comes with difficulty and not ease. âShould you not turn to ash?â
Their eyebrows raise just slightly, not quite in amusement, and they give a brittle little laugh. âFirst off, Fritz, thatâs a myth. Secondly, itâs not even morning. Probably close to evening now, honestly.âÂ
Erich rolls his eyes. Lukas mutters something under his breath next to him, but the slight creaking of their boots seems to cover it too much to be understandable. Erich sighs, heavily. âThen why did you have us say to you good morning, Blutsauger?âÂ
âBecause itâs funny that you donât know what time it is, of course. All right, who here is Fritz, who is Hans, and who am I just going to call Kraut?âÂ
âNo one here is named Hans and no one is Fritz, fangs.â Erich tips his chin down slightly, a lock of greasy brown hair falling into his eyes. âMay you drown in holy water.â
He spits at the vampireâs feet.
He feels a pang of regret when the vampire turns to look at Alain, the French guard and points back at Erich, cheerful. âI want that one. Heâs rude.â
âDas ist pech,â Lukas whispers.
When Alain simply stares at them blankly - and Erich knows Alain speaks English, theyâve spoken before in a tongue they had in common when neither spoke the otherâs mother-tongue -Â the vampire groans. They donât seem to know Alain is pretending not to understand them. âFine. Letâs try this again. Je veux cet homme, s'il vous plaĂźt.â
Alainâs expression tightens a little. He nods, and he wonât look Erich in the eyes as he draws the entrance open a little wider. âEmmenez-le alors.â
âMerci beaucoup,â The vampire says, giving a little bow. Erich backs up, but there isnât anywhere to go, and none of them is armed. Besides, any resistance is met with removal of meals, with being denied the smallest comforts that make this bearable. With the possibility of all of them being handed over to a vampire, not just one.
This war had been civilized, in some ways, before the Americans brought their monsters.
Itâs not actually true, but in this moment it comforts him to pretend it, to have a place to put his furious disgust as the vampireâs thin, long fingers close around his arm and yank him forwards with inhuman strength. Theyâre clicking their tongue against the top of their mouth in a strange animal way. Erich thinks again of his motherâs cat, making just that sound watching birds outside the windows.
âMay your hands be pressed into the holy cross,â Erich snaps as heâs forced out into the freezing humid air outside the tent. There are others walking around - a war camp is never less than controlled chaos, no matter the time of day - but none of them will look at him. No one acknowledges him, although theyâve all seen this before. They know whatâs going to happen here.Â
âJe dĂ©teste ça,â Alain mutters.
A bell is rung, clanging in a discordant note, and soldiers move into the POW tents. Erich is led towards a pole in the center of the ring of prisoner tents, something that a half-century ago might still have been a flogging post, a punishment for mutinous men.Â
âCrosses donât really harm us,â The vampire says, careless and casual. âVery little does, actually. Iâm a big fan of garlic, for instance. Silver, thoughâŠâ They hum, dragging a fingernail over Erichâs wrist. âThat hurts.â
He jerks his hand back and free, only to have the vampire laugh, bright and brilliant, and grab him again, spinning him around until theyâre behind him, chest pressed to his back, using that demon strength to twist his arms up his back until his bones creak and ache, forcing him forwards towards the pole.Â
âI hope you have silver shoved down your throat,â Erich manages, but his heart is pounding in fear as the vampire grabs his hair and jerks his head to the side, forcing his cheek against the rough-hewn wood. Splinters bite into his skin and he grunts as his arms are moved, forced to encircle the pole. His wrists are tied with rope, leaving him looking a little ridiculous, as if he decided today to go for a hug.Â
Another rope goes around his shoulders, keeping him in this awkwardly pressed position. He tries to kick back, pulling viciously, but then his ankles come next. The rope goes from them to small metal hooks driven hard into the ground, keeping his legs more than shoulder-width apart. He canât kick, or even balance himself. He must rely entirely on the pole heâs tied to in order to stay upright.Â
âIâm going to enjoy you,â The vampire murmurs.Â
Behind Erich, the sounds of a crowd gathering begin. Soft mumbles, exhalations of surprise and disgust. He closes his eyes against the rush of heat he feels - more rage than tears - knowing the prisoners are being brought out to witness this, to be shown what could happen to them next.
It does an excellent job of making them grateful for every day itâs not.
The French commander of the POW camp is barking a running list of commands to his men, but Erich doesnât speak enough French to clearly understand them. Someone comes close by behind him, and he jolts as thereâs a clap to his back. Thereâs a laugh behind him, not the vampire but someone else.
He manages to see from the corner of his eyes. A different American, of course. Comfortable enough with the vampire to get this close to them.Â
âIsnât this a sorry sight,â The American says, and laughs. âWhatâs the prize for, fangs?â
The vampire lifts their hand, gently brushing Erichâs hair from his eyes. He spits in their face, this time, and is gratified by a flash of very real anger that briefly overtakes their constant amusement. They slowly wipe the spit away, then clean their hand - sort of - on Erichâs uniform.Â
Itâs so dirty theyâre probably even less clean after that than they were before.
âReported a desertion. Now I get fresh food.â They lean down, meeting Erichâs furious hazel eyes. âIâm so hungry, Fritz. All the time. Imagine being surrounded by schnitzel and cabbage as far as the eye can see, and youâre not supposed to eat your fill. Imagine how empty you would feel.â
âFick dich.âÂ
âWhat, you wonât even curse at me in English anymore?â The vampire pouts, lower lip sticking out. He hates them more than heâs hated anyone during this godforsaken war. âCome on, you have to understand how hard this is for me, right?â
Erich ignores them, jerks his wrists again, trying to yank himself free of the ropes through sheer force. His back already is aching from being slightly bent forward, his thigh muscles stretched. He does the only thing he can think of - he slowly, with effort, drags his face along the wood and manages to turn away, and look the other direction.Â
âWell, fine. I suppose youâll be mad at me for acting like you all eat schnitzel and cabbage, too,â The vampire says behind him. He doesnât dignify them with an answer. He fixes his eyes, instead, on a point in the dark roiling clouds in the sky, above the remaining trees.Â
âThe prisoners are well-positioned to witness,â A French officer states, speaking with a light, dancing accent but without the difficulty and hesitancy some of the regular infantry have. âYou may feed when ready, Private Saathoff.â
That gets Erichâs attention. âSaathoff?â
âThatâs right.â The vampire laughs, stepping up behind him. Their fingers move through the hair that curls, grown a little too long, over the back of his neck. He shudders with disgust at the intimacy of it. Their mouth moves close to his ear, but there is no heat of breath. Only the brush of lips. âIch bin Deustcher, genau wie du.âÂ
âNothing like me,â Erich grinds out with his teeth gritted together so hard his jaw is already aching. He presses his forehead into the rough wooden pole and closes his eyes. He takes a deep breath.Â
If heâs going to dieâŠ
âVater unser im Himmel,â he begins, halting. He hasnât seen the inside of a church since he was fourteen, and that was twelve years ago now. Still, the words to the Lordâs Prayer come easily, more muscle memory than thought. âGeheiligt werde dein Name. Dein Reich komme, Dein Wille geschehe, wie im Himmel so auf Erden-â
âZu jeder anderen Zeit hĂ€tte ich dich als Haustier behalten.â They use his hair to jerk his head back, and their fangs jam into his neck with a flash of sudden agony.
Itâs a white-hot pain that races down his spine to the very tips of his toes, and Erich screams, the sound strangled and thin but still echoing, bouncing off of trees and tents and back into his mind, crashing like the shells that slam into the earth.Â
Lukas jerks forwards as if to run to help him and is pushed back by one of the French soldiers, their expression set in a grim line. They have to twist Lukasâs arms behind his back to hold him as he shouts, angrily, that this isnât fair, itâs against the laws of conduct.Â
Thereâs laughter, at that, from their captors.Â
The other prisoners grumble and shift uncomfortably, look at anything but Erich whenever they can, but they canât escape the sound of his horror, of his pain.Â
Thereâs no pulse of the much-spoken-of venom. Thereâs no numbness to drift in, thereâs no fog to cloud out his awareness of what is happening to him. Every muscle of Erichâs body is tensed tight enough to snap the bones they wrap around, the veins standing out in his throat as if giving them a roadmap of where the food can be found.
He didnât know vampires could choose not to use the venom.
He didnât know they could make it feel like this.
When his scream dies, he canât get enough breath to make another. All he can do is let out high-pitched, thin whimpers and cries. Spots dance before his eyes. Beneath the sound of his heart pounding in a sudden panic to push more blood faster to replace what is being lost, he can feel - can hear - a low rumbling sound against his back.
Erich has heard the rumors that vampires purr, and now he knows they arenât rumors at all.
He can feel it right through his back, just barely. Itâs a vibration that would be pleasant if it didnât seem to be somehow making everything hurt even worse, waking up his nerves the way the venom is supposed to deaden them. Their hands are closed around his ribs, pressing the tips of their fingers rhythmically against them, as if playing a piano, as if he is dough to be kneaded, as if he isnât human at all.
As if heâs nothing but a field mouse that found his way into the wrong house, and the vampire is the housecat who has waited too long for a living toy to torment.
There is no prayer, in pain like this. There is no thought beyond the bodyâs fight for survival and the mind wanting to flee from it, if surviving means this feeling will not end. There is nothing but the feeling of his blood being pulled forcefully out of his body, nothing but his nerves screaming to escape it, nothing but the bite of the ropes that ensure he can do no more than jerk in his bonds and choke on his agony.
It feels like forever - and like a moment - when their fangs pull free, their cool rough tongue lapping at the wounds to close them, purring against his ear with contentment. Their fingers knead into his skin a little bit longer, drawing the moment out as he slumps against the wooden pole heâs tied to. Heâs only standing because of the ropes.
Pain rolls through him, breaking against the edges of his body from the inside, like the smaller waves after a storm falling onto a beach already strewn with debris. He slumps. His own breath is a rasping wheeze, taking far more effort than it should.
Nein, Erich, Erich stirb nichtâŠâ Lukasâs voice comes from somewhere so far away, filtering through the noise in Erichâs mind slowly. He canât even begin to form a response. His mouth wonât answer his commands. It only hangs open, panting, pulling in the chilly air over his tongue. He starts to shiver as the breeze hits the cold sweat in his hair and on his neck, cuts through his uniform somehow.
He doesnât have enough blood left to warm himself.
Their tongue licks up his neck behind his ear, matting his own blood into his hair there, sticky and hot. It starts to cool and dry immediately in the cold air. Erichâs stomach twists.
âOh, he wonât die,â The vampire coos, petting through his hair slowly. Their nails scratch at his scalp. âNot today.â Their mouth presses back against his ear. âThanks for the meal, Erich. And for being so entertaining. Maybe Iâll find you after the war. Iâll buy you a beer⊠and some schnitzel.â
They push themself away from him, turning away to wipe a bit of blood from the corners of their mouth, and walk with a jaunty step through an opening that appears in the ring of watching prisoners, whose eyes follow them with apprehension and no small amount of fear.Â
When Alain comes up to untie him, Erich simply collapses into the Frenchmanâs arms as soon as heâs free of the ropes. Lukas is allowed to move up to stand at his other side, putting Erichâs limp left arm around his shoulders, while Alain supports his right. Erich lets his head fall into Lukasâs shoulder, hitching his breath as he forces down a sob.Â
âWh⊠why do you let them do this?â He asks, his English slurred with the exhaustion that means he is dragged with his boots carving paths through the mud back towards the tent.Â
Alain is silent until Erich is dropped onto his cot, the hard frame digging into Erichâs back right through the thin mattress. He glances over his shoulder, the three of them alone in here for the moment, and then looks back.Â
âIt is believed that this is how we will win,â He says, and pats Erichâs hand. âMy apologies. I do not believe in the monsters, but I am not the one to run this war.â
âNone of us are,â Erich says, weakly. He closes his eyes. âWe are only the ones who must fight in it.â
Thereâs a pause, and Alainâs exhale is audible in the quiet tent. âI will ensure you are given extra meat rations tonight, and I will find you some schnapps. Essaye de dormir, maintenant, si tu peux,â he says with soft regret lacing his voice. Then there is a shuffle of footsteps, and heâs gone.
Lukas shifts and sits with his back to the cot, in the same position Erich was in before. He swallows, picking up the abandoned cards from the game theyâd been playing, looking over Erichâs hand. âYouâd have won, you know, on the next hand,â He says in German, before he reaches out to grab the othersâ cards and reshuffle the deck.
âDo I still get my⊠my winnings?â Erich can barely move his lips to speak. Heâs so tired. So, so tired. He can feel his hands starting to shake, now that itâs over, the trembling moving slowly up his limbs, stuttering his breathing.Â
âMy share of the liquor? Not on your life.â Lukas pauses, and then his tone gentles as he looks Erich over again. âYou know what... of course you can. Youâll need warmth. What did the bloodsucker say to you, anyway? I couldnât hear.â
Erich thinks about the promise to find him after the war, about the way they spoke into his ear as if he were little more than a toy top to be spun at their command. In another time, Iâd keep you for a pet, they had whispered, before they bit down.Â
He shakes his head, slowly. âLies,â He answers, and feels the softer-edged darkness of sleep begin to take him.
âLies?âÂ
âI hope⊠I hope they were lies.â
For the moment, at least, he is too exhausted by the present to feel terror for the future.

synopsis â osaki shotaro moving to town means trips to the dance studio, boba dates, and the perpetual teasing of lee donghyuck.Â
pairing â shotaro, reader
requested? â yes! based off @onlyjihoonsâââs shipping game answer âĄ
word count â 5.5k (this was supposed to be 1k.... goodbye.)
a/n â i enjoy writing texting scenes WAY too much ;; tbh this is like 50% texts im cryign but i had to convey how much i love 00 line .... and also how firmly i believe in lee donghyuck devil supremacy. as always, feedback is greatly appreciated and enjoy!Â
+
if someone were to ask you how you felt about your friends, you would without any hesitation, answer that you loved them to death. of course, if you were being completely honest, you would also have to add that you experienced the urge to strangle them from time to time. that might earn you a couple odd stares but youâre sure people would be more understanding if they knew who was in your inner circle to begin with.
for starters, there was lee jeno â tall, handsome, and the textbook definition of a gentleman. then, na jaemin, who you would consider to be the yin to jenoâs yang. an extremely energetic guy and, in your book, a total freak of nature ever since you found out that he inhales four shots of espresso on the daily. liu yangyang was a more recent addition to your group but, being as quick-witted as he was, he quickly fit right in. he also had a habit of going on somewhat aggressive rants in german which renjun found to be extremely amusing. speaking of, huang renjun was another one of your close friends â the shortest of the group, actually. (and, much to renjunâs dismay, thatâs exactly how donghyuck liked to introduce him to people.) he was the type of guy you could trust to keep everyone in check which consequently made you mildly terrified of him.
however, it could never compare to the perpetual fear you have of lee donghyuck.Â
of course, you love him to pieces but sometimes you really wish he didnât find so much joy in, well, making everyone miserable. you couldnât deny it was funny to watch him tease and taunt your other friends. you still remember him purposefully messing up renjunâs game at the local arcade just when he was about to reach his high score â and also the way renjun had tackled him to the floor right then and there, resulting in the six of you being banned from the place. or, that time he offered to pay for everyoneâs starbucks orders only to tell the barista that jaeminâs name was ben dover. (to no oneâs surprise, yangyang had found that joke particularly hilarious.) you can also clearly recall how hard you had laughed in both of those situations.
but, donghyuck never let anyone laugh for too long.
according to him it was âonly fairâ to make sure each of his friends was at the receiving end of his gags. so, despite laughing at his latest victimâs expense, each of you knew that donghyuck would make sure you were in the same position sooner or later.
you definitely werenât expecting it to be your turn one dull friday evening.
things are going slow for you as you sit at your desk, typing away on your laptop. school has been out for hours and your professors have decided to be saints and leave you little homework for the weekend. beside you, your phone dings, alerting you of the new text message in your group chat.
[4:23 pm] hyuck: iâm bored đ„ș
[4:23 pm] you: plz never use that emoji again
[4:24 pm] nana: itâs misleading dude
[4:25 pm] yangx2: yeah like when have u ever made a face that isnât this đ
[4:25 pm] renjun: donghyuck is the devil = confirmed
[4:25 pm] nana: CALLED IT
[4:26 pm] hyuck: u guys are literally so evil
jeno laughed at âu guys are literally so evilâ
[4:27 pm] jeno: look whoâs talking lol
[4:27 pm] you: dangg u know itâs bad when lee jeno disses u
[4:28 pm] jeno: ...ngl it kinda feels like ur shading me rn
[4:28 pm] you: u would be correct :)
[4:29 pm] hyuck: um HELLO can u guys go back to paying attention to me???
[4:29 pm] renjun: what do u want, diva?
[4:29 pm] hyuck: i just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(
renjun disliked âi just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(â
yangx2 disliked âi just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(â
you disliked âi just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(â
nana disliked âi just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(â
jeno disliked âi just wanna spend some quality time with my best friends ;(â
[4:30 pm] hyuck: OH COME ON
[4:30 pm] yangx2: i think what u meant to say is that u wanna make one of us very miserable today, right?
[4:30 pm] hyuck: .....no comment
nana renamed the group chat âhyuck hate clubâ
[4:31 pm] hyuck: ok iâm honestly feeling so attacked right now
[4:31 pm] jeno: well now u know what itâs like to be friends with u
[4:31 pm] you: so true king omg ur on a roll
[4:32 pm] hyuck: hmm okay so either jeno or y/n is gonna be todayâs target, got it
[4:32 pm] hyuck:Â anyway can u guys come down to the dance studio now??
[4:32 pm] you: what makes u think i would go anywhere near u when i know ur plotting ur revenge on me as we speak
[4:32 pm] hyuck: because maybe iâll have mercy on u and just terrorize jeno instead
[4:33 pm] you: good enough for me! thnx bestie, see u soon!!
[4:33 pm] jeno: HEY
nana laughed at âgood enough for me! thnx bestie, see u soon!!â
[4:34 pm] yangx2: u literally cannot trust anyone in this friend group
[4:34 pm] renjun: ikr isnât it great???
you might have been slightly out of your mind to willingly go see donghyuck knowing you had teased him in your group chat earlier. although, if there was a slight chance he would show you mercy if you did hang out with him, you were going to take it.
the studio was where you had first met donghyuck, along with the rest of your friends due to the dance classes you attended. after bumping into each in between classes and during practice, you began to get well acquainted. turns out, the six of you actually got along incredibly well and after a while, you began to share routines and tips, even choreographing together from time to time. obviously, this led to the infamous group chat being formed and lots of time spent outside the studio as well.
but, none of you had lost that love for dancing. in fact, forming your little clique had only made it grow. as you opened the front doors of the building you had made so many memories in, you wondered if donghyuck wanted your insight on a certain routine or needed some help choreographing. of course, there was also the possibility that he really was just bored and wanted you to suffer with him.
what you did not expect, however, was to see him caught up in conversation with another person. you couldnât clearly see them with donghyuck in the way; all you knew for certain was that your best friendâs mouth was moving a mile a minute. you tentatively tiptoe into the room, hoping to not intrude on their discussion. but, at hearing the doors creak open, donghyuck puts his rant on pause to enthusiastically wave you over.
you sigh, putting your belongings down and approaching the pair. as you near, you notice that hyuck has a huge smile â no, smirk â on his face. you internally curse yourself for believing that he would ever pass up an opportunity to torment you, especially in front of a stranger.
âthis is a very dear friend of mine,â you hear him introduce to his acquaintance. âher name is y/n. she dances, too.â
âoh, thatâs really cool!â
the strangerâs unusually cheery tone prompts you to finally peek behind donghyuck and put a face to the voice.
and what a face he has.
âthis is shotaro,â donghyuck informs you. âheâs new to town and quite the dancer. caught him in the middle of a routine.â
your knees almost wobble as you take in the stranger â shotaroâs â kind eyes that almost sparkle. (you arenât sure if itâs because of the fluorescent lights of the studio or just part of his charm.) his lips are curved up into a friendly smile that makes you feel slightly giddy. his hair falls into his face almost perfectly, not a strand out of place and youâre uncertain as to how thatâs even possible since, as donghyuck had said, he was dancing. not to mention, thereâs not a bead of sweat on his face. did this guy come straight out of a disney movie or something?
âexcuse her,â donghyuck chuckles. âgood looking people tend to make her freeze up. donât worry, this happened when she met me, too.â
you offer your friend a glare and an elbow to the side and you swear you hear shotaro chuckle. you turn to him instead, putting on a welcoming smile.
âmy bad, i justââ
âgot lost in his eyes?â
you pinch the bridge of your nose. âdonghyuck, please donât make me have to attack you in front of our guest.â
more giggles escape shotaro. (you swear itâs the prettiest thing youâve ever heard.) you curiously tilt your head at him.
âsorry, itâs just that, you guys are too funny,â he admits with a sheepish smile.
you mirror his grin, slightly relieved he was amused instead of weirded out. âyeah, well, just wait âtil you meet the rest of us. itâs like a circus show, youâll love it.â
âhello, clowns!â
âspeak of the devil,â donghyuck murmurs, watching as yangyang and renjun enter, followed by jeno and jaemin.
âwoah, whoâs the cutie?â yangyang asks renjun, in what you presume he thinks is a whisper. however, yangyang has never spoken quietly a day in his life. renjun simply shrugs at his question.
having clearly heard the compliment, a faint blush creeps onto shotaroâs cheeks.
âguys, this is shotaro,â donghyuck answers, tugging the sandy blonde forward.
he gives a somewhat shy wave. âhi, y/nâs friends.â
jaemin erupts into laughter. âuh oh, looks like he likes y/n more than hyuck.â
âdonât blame him,â jeno mutters.
shotaroâs forehead creases, face suddenly twisted in worry. âoh, iâm sorry, was i not supposed to say that?â
âoh no, donât worry,â donghyuck denies, quickly. âiâm sure y/n doesnât mind at all, right?â
if you could crawl into a hole to avoid the embarrassment, you would. of course, donghyuck was 100% right; you really didnât mind shotaro calling the group that if it meant you could hear him say your name over and over again. in fact, his sweet voice could probably make the dictionary sound like the most addictive song. but, donghyuck had no right putting you on the spot like that.
jeno suddenly speaks, catching on to your flustered state and donghyuckâs evil grin. âso, itâs y/nâs turn today? sweet, iâm off the hook!â
shotaro furrows his brows slightly. âhuh?â
âoh, itâs just an inside joke,â jeno says, smile reaching all the way up to his eyes.
you wish you could strangle him right then and there for finding amusement at your expense but the last thing you want is for shotaro to think youâre some sort of psychopath. (although, with a friend group like this, youâre definitely beginning to think thatâs where youâre headed.)
âgot it,â shotaro responds, breaking out into a grin himself. âyou guys seem like a really close bunch!â
âthe closest,â donghyuck corrects, overly sweet, as he wraps an arm around you. (you resist the urge to shove him off.) âyouâll fit right in!â
+
you believed that the torture was over the day donghyuck introduced shotaro to your group. you would probably just see him from time to time and the studio (hopefully without hyuck around) and it would all be downhill from there, right? the latest notification on your phone alerts you that you are absolutely wrong.
hyuck has added one (1) user to the group chat
[1:05 pm] hyuck: welcome shotaro!!
[1:06 pm] unknown: oh hey guys! :]
the emoticon almost makes your heart beat right out of your chest. you roll your eyes in frustration at how easily affected you were by this guy. seriously, why did everything he do have to be so cute? regardless, you quickly add his number to your contacts.
[1:06 pm] hyuck: why donât we do a little roll call so shotaro can save ur numbers to his phone
[1:07 pm] yangx2: YANGYANG
[1:07 pm] yangx2: HA I WAS FIRST
[1:07 pm] jeno: ...
[1:08 pm] jeno:Â anyway this is jeno :)
[1:08 pm] nana: jaemin present!
[1:08 pm] renjun: hi shotaro, this is renjun
[1:10 pm] shotaro: haha cool thanks a lot, i just saved all ur numbers!
[1:10 pm] shotaro: but quick question, is y/n in this group chat? :0
you almost drop your phone at reading shotaroâs message although youâre unsure why. he just typed your name, get it together, you urge yourself.
[1:11 pm] you: heyy shotaro! iâm right here :)
[1:11 pm] shotaro: oh yayy! iâm so glad ^^
hyuck disliked âoh yayy! iâm so glad ^^â
[1:12 pm] hyuck: shotaro plz return my love what does she have that i donât T-T
[1:12 pm] nana: a heart
[1:12 pm] yangx2: a brain
[1:12 pm] jeno: a conscience
[1:12 pm] renjun: a functioning moral compass
[1:13 pm] hyuck: wtf
[1:13 pm] shotaro: ahahaha itâs like iâm watching a comedy
[1:14 pm] you: told u itâs a circus
[1:14 pm] you: i say get out while u still can
[1:14 pm] shotaro: whaatt and leave u behind? no way!
nana renamed the group chat âshotaro x y/n supremacistsâ
[1:15 pm] jeno: my thoughts exactly
[1:15 pm] renjun: took the words right out of my mouth
you cringe at your friendsâ blunt behavior, praying shotaro didnât find their antics to be too strange.
[1:16 pm] shotaro: đł
[1:16 pm] nana: aww someoneâs shy
[1:17 pm] renjun: he wouldnât last a day in itzy
[1:17 pm] yangx2: HELPP
you shake your head, laughing silently to yourself as you mute the group chat and place your phone back down. although, moments later, you receive a direct message. you presume itâs one of the boys trying to rope you back into the chat but the moment you see the contact name, youâre forced to do a double take.
[1:21 pm] shotaro: i hope iâm not bothering u but i just wanted to make sure ur okay .. you kinda went quiet in the gc :>
[1:21 pm] shotaro: itâs shotaro from the dance studio btw!
you canât help but find the fact that he seriously thought you wouldnât remember him adorable. how could you ever forget a face like his?
[1:22 pm] you: thatâs so kind! iâm okay, i promise. iâve just had to put up with those dorks for way too long, sometimes i just ignore them haha
[1:22 pm] shotaro: lol yeah they do seem like a handful! but i look forward to getting to know them better!!
[1:23 pm] shotaro: and u too ofc~~
it takes all your willpower not to spam dozens of heart emojis in an attempt to show shotaro just how he has reduced you to a lovesick fool. instead, your response is short and sweet.
[1:23 pm] you: right back at u, taro! âĄ
+
âokay, take five,â donghyuck pants, pausing the music blaring from the speakers.
you gladly obey, wiping away the light sweat you had worked up from the latest routine you and hyuck were constructing.
you both belonged to the same dance class and frequently paired together for partnered projects. the rest of your friends attended different classes, which you constantly joked was for the best since there was no way one dance instructor could possibly handle the six of you together.
âhow do you feel?â donghyuck asks you, running a hand through his tousled hair.
âthe choreoâs great, iâm proud of what we got so far,â you reply. âof course, i would be happier if i didnât have to get so up close and personal with you.â
donghyuck scoffs at your joke. âi canât do anything about that. the teacher said the whole concept of the routine is supposed to be is intimate.â
you fake a gag, failing to contain a laugh when hyuck playfully shoves you in offense.
âiâm sorry i canât be shotaro,â he adds, a smirk forming on his lips.
you roll your eyes. âoh, very funny.â
âcâmon, youâre acting like you wouldnât kill to have him as your partner, especially with choreo as spicy as this.â
âwell, it would beat being paired with you,â you remark, picking up your water bottle and taking a swig.
âhm, then looks like today might be your lucky day,â donghyuck replies, eyes trained somewhere behind you.
you follow his gaze, nearly choking on your water as soon as you catch sight of shotaro entering the studio. he meets your eyes, plucking out his earbuds and offering you a small wave.
âoh, hey guys!â he exclaims, cheerfully.
âhey âtaro,â you greet, rather quickly, earning you a knowing glance from your partner.
ââtaro?â hyuck repeats, amused, as he folds his arms over his chest. âyou guys are already on cute nickname basis?â
shotaro giggles, eyes squinting adorably as he does so. âit is a pretty adorable nickname, right? sheâs the only one who calls me that!â
your heart beats faster when you see how oddly excited that seems to make him. did he somehow find it endearing?
âseems like the two of you are becoming quite close, hm?â continues hyuck.
shotaro nods enthusiastically before glancing at you tentatively, as if to check for confirmation.
âyeah, you could say that.â
your agreement causes yet another smile to grace shotaroâs lips â this time he seems relieved. you briefly wonder if the kid ever stops flashing those pearly whites of his. you certainly hope so, or else your heart may never catch a break. Â
âwell, since youâre comfortable enough with each other,â donghyuck begins, flashing you a grin.
youâre not even sure what heâs gonna say but you already feel the need to put an end to it. after all, nothing good has ever come of donghyuckâs mischievous grins. you subtly purse your lips and narrow your eyes in an attempt to get him to stop whatever chaos heâs planning to ensue.
nevertheless, he proceeds. âmaybe you could help me out with this choreography?â
you want to facepalm at donghyuckâs lame excuse of a lie. however, on the other hand, shotaroâs face lights up in delight.
âyouâre working on choreo? what for?â he inquires, curiously.
âfor our dance class,â hyuck explains, motioning towards you. âi have a couple ideas so i was thinking you two could maybe try out some steps iâm planning to include. you know, to help me... visualize.â
âthat sounds awesome,â shotaro responds, oblivious to your friendâs untruths. âi would love to help you guys out.â
âgreat!â donghyuck claps his hands together. âjust a heads up, the theme of the routine is intimacy, so i wanna see all that charm of yours, shotaro. itâll, uh, help me choreograph.â
you cringe at the obvious fib. meanwhile, itâs as if a switch has gone off in shotaroâs mind. his smile fades and his eyebrows knit together. âhold on, i-intimacy? does that meanââ
âthat youâll have to get a bit touchy-feely with her? yeah,â donghyuck interjects, innocently.
âyâknow... iâve really been wanting to dance with her.â he faces you, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. âjust never thought it would be like this.â
you offer him an apologetic smile. âi know, it might be a bit... uncomfortable. you can back out if youâd like. i promise hyuck and i wonât mind.â
shotaroâs head shakes, vigorously. âno, of course not!â he must realize how quick he was to deny your offer, making him suspiciously eager to be close to you as he immediately adds, âi mean, itâs good practice.â
you suppress a giggle. âsure thing. hyuck, should we get started now?â
the boy in question dramatically picks at his nails, acting as if he had been waiting on you both for hours. âif you guys are done flirting, then, yeah.â
you roll your eyes, shooting shotaro a mildly annoyed stare. he grins, finding it to be equally amusing as it is endearing. (what can he say, the faint pout that appeared on your face was cute.)
âshotaro, how about you get in position right behind her.â
shotaro obeys, making sure to leave a significant amount of space between the two of you. however, donghyuck doesnât seem to approve.
âcloser!â he commands. âthe concept is intimacy, not social distancing!â
shotaro shuffles forward, pressing his front into your back. you canât help but notice how firmly toned his chest is. curse his dancers body, you think.
âokay, now, lemme see your hands on her waist!â
you feel the breath of shotaroâs shaky exhale on the back of your neck as he obeys, sliding apprehensive hands around your midsection. thereâs silence on donghyuckâs end and through the mirror you watch him observe the two of you, no doubt acting way more pensive than he truly is. you know heâs just prolonging your flustered state by keeping you in this intimate position with the younger boy.
although, shotaro himself might know it too, considering the fact that he begins to rub comforting circles into your sides that heâs currently gripping, as per donghyuckâs request, in an attempt to calm you down. you nearly melt right then and there. at the same time, you hope he doesnât plan on stopping anytime soon.
donghyuck calls out your name, successfully startling you and putting an end to the peaceful atmosphere. âwhy donât you go ahead and lean on his shoulder. just lay your head back nice and easyâ good, very good! look at that chemistry!â
if youâre being sincere, reclining on shotaro feels way more natural and enjoyable than it should. he steadily holds you in place, almost as if he secretly wishes to never let go. you wouldnât be completely opposed to the idea either.
âalright, last thing, guys! y/n, how about you hook your arm around shotaroâs neck?â
you do so, fingers brushing softly against his jaw. he shivers beneath your touch, erupting into giggles when you shoot him an odd stare.
âiâm ticklish,â he confesses, in a whisper.
you canât help but smile widely. âis that so? hm, i might have to exploit that information sooner or later.â
âas long as donghyuck doesnât find out,â he replies.
his comment certainly gets a chuckle out of you. âdid you finally realize how evil he is?â
âif the torture heâs putting you through right now is anything to go by, then absolutely.â
âonly a matter of time before itâs your turn,â you reply. you lean into his ear to add, âby the way, this is anything but torture for me.â
âhey! no whispering!â donghyuck reprimands.
for the first time, shotaro goes against the older boyâs orders to whisper back, âitâs mutual. if anything, i think this is the best thing iâve done since i moved here.â
your heart melts at the sincere admission. you stare at shotaro in what youâre sure is a very obvious case of heart eyes. youâre taken aback to find that he, too, returns the lovesick look. perhaps he was immersing himself a bit too much in the intimacy concept...
âstop! pause! cut!â
you and shotaro (reluctantly) untangle yourselves from each other to face a seemingly unhappy donghyuck.
âcan you guys please just focus on my instructions without falling in love with each other?â he pleads. âi mean, you havenât even gotten out of the starting position yet.â he groans, exasperated. âactually, you know what, just take five.â

due to the fact that you believed donghyuck was going to try and officially initiate shotaro into your friend group with one of his infamous pranks, you decided to head to the boba shop. you hoped that if you showed up, you would be able to prevent whatever mayhem he had planned or at the very least, provide some damage control.
you pushed open the door to the quaint building, the bell dinging to announce your arrival. your eyes immediately lock onto the table in the far back since it was where you and your friends always sat â you had practically claimed it. you expect to see all the chairs filled but, to your surprise, only one person occupies the space.
osaki shotaro.
he beams, probably relieved to finally have some company in the otherwise empty shop. (after all, you werenât sure how long he had been sitting there all alone.) nevertheless, you allow yourself to wonder â just for a second â Â if maybe he was just that ecstatic to see you. the way he enthusiastically waves you over seems to be in favor of that theory. itâs almost confirmed when you reach he table and he pats the chair beside him.
you let out a soft laugh. âthe whole tableâs empty, âtaro.â
âi know,â he admits. âi just really want you to sit next to me.â
you swear you could break down in tears simply from the way heâs looking at you; like youâre all he needs. itâs pure adoration. Â you wonder if thatâs how you look at him too. you canât help but ask yourself if he, too, notices your longing stares.
you decide that you would be a monster if you denied shotaro his wish, so, you internally prepare yourself to sit next to possibly the sweetest boy youâve ever known. yet, that proves to be difficult as said boy stands up to pull out your chair like the gentleman he is. you shoot him a grateful smile, mentally dethroning jeno as the most well-mannered person you know and passing the crown on to shotaro.
âso, how long have you been waiting for?â you ask, resting your elbow on the table and leaning into your palm to stare attentively at the boy to your right.
âactually, i only got here a couple minutes before you. we did agree to meet up here a quarter before three, right?â he asks, slightly confused.
you nod in confirmation. âhonestly, i think we got set up.â
shotaro tilts his head. âreally? why would they do that?â
âmight have something to do with our âchemistryâ,â you explain, quoting donghyuck.
the japanese boyâs mouth falls agape, as he comes to the realization. âoh, so they literally set us up.â
âmhm,â you agree, smiling ever so slightly.
shotaro must be paying closer attention than you thought because he picks up on your grin. âwhatâs with the smile?â
you shrug, feigning uncertainty. âi guess i just donât feel so bad about being set up if itâs with a certain cutie i know.â
âoh?â he raises a brow, cheeks growing as he too mirrors your lovestruck look. âshould i be worried about this guy?â
âcertainly not,â you reassure him. âiâve only got eyes for one.â
you see a faded tint of pink rush to his cheeks and you find it adorable how your confession flusters him. you canât help but caress the supple skin as gently as possible. shotaro leans into your touch, his own hand coming up to cup your own, almost as if he were holding you in place. after a couple moments of basking in the intimate moment, you retract your hand.
âmaybe we should try and get hyuck to include that in the choreo, huh?â you suggest, a teasing smile on your lips.
shotaro chuckles, âsounds good to me. i might even ask if i can fill his position, too. if not, i just might get jealous.â
you playfully shove him and he raises his hands in surrender. you chuckle, grabbing one of the menus that litter the table, planning to offer shotaro some help choosing an item from the list that is surely unfamiliar to him but it seems something outside the window behind you has caught his focus instead.
âlooks like we have an audience.â
you take a deep breath at his words, preparing yourself for whatever it is youâre going to see upon turning around. when you finally do, all you manage to catch is five heads ducking beneath the windowsill, in a weak attempt to not get caught.
âof course,â you nearly laugh. âtheyâre so predictable.â
shotaro seems to find the situation humorous as well, if his amused tone is anything to go by. âto be honest, we should be thanking them. they got us together.â
âoh, so weâre together now?â you inquire, raising a brow.
âw-well, i mean, if you want to. i-i definitely want to.â
âno need for stuttering,â you reassure him, reaching over to stroke that one ticklish spot on his neck. âto quote a very wise â and handsome â young man, âitâs mutual.ââ
he smiles at his own words being recited to him. âi donât know about you, but i think we should seal the deal.â
âinteresting. how do you suppose we do that?â you ask with faux curiosity. you certainly had some ideas of your own.
âmaybe... a kiss?â shotaro leans forward, eyes closed expectantly as he taps his cheek. you resist the urge to pinch his lovely, round baby cheeks. he peeks one eye open to add, âfor the audience, of course.â
you giggle, completely and utterly love-struck by the boy before you. in fact, you are so enamored by him that you decide to go the extra mile and press a sweet, chaste peck to his lips.
it seems as if he himself didnât expect it as his eyes snap open, hand coming up to cup his lips in shock. when he finally uncovers his mouth, you see thereâs a dazed, giddy grin on his face that letâs you know the smooch was very welcome pleasant surprise.
your phones simultaneously go off, alerting you of incoming messages. itâs a given that itâs none other than the group chat.
[3:15 pm] nana: that smooch was romcom worthy iâm so impressed right now
[3:15 pm] jeno: shotaro is living proof that being a gentleman has its perks! everyone in this gc should take notes!
[3:15 pm] yangx2: HERE IHAVE THE VDIEO OF THE WHOELE THIGN IF ANYOEN WANTS IT

[3:16 pm] renjun: can we get boba now?
[3:16 pm] renjun: oh wait my bad, congrats to the new couple :-)
[3:16 pm] renjun: to celebrate they should pay for everyoneâs drinks.. just a thought

The types as strangers I wish I had known (version 4)
Previous versions: One, two, three
INTJ:Â She was the first person to show me kindness in a new place. Moving across the country all alone in the middle of a pandemic is not exactly the ideal start of your first real job. So she took it all on herself to take me by the hand, to organise all the things that I had no clue about. She gave me a little tour around the workplace, recommended me places to eat once the pandemic is over, asked me about how I was settling in, remembered little things I mentioned. She was the only person not working from home when I first arrived and so it was just the two of us. She was quiet and reserved as most people here seem to be, and she was awkward in every way when interacting with me. But she tried so hard and maybe itâs just me projecting, but she said her son was in the very same situation as me right now, and it felt like she tried to help me in the way she couldnât help her son, like she wanted to take me under her wing, but not make it awkward, and then actually making it slightly awkward in doing so. Her heart just felt warm and so did mine when I said thank you.
ENTJ: Everyone knows the classic character of a self-righteous doctor in a hospital show. You know that one. The one that everyone thinks may be hard-working and clever, but heartless and uncaring and egocentric, but a few episodes down the line you start to see that there is more going on underneath the rude attitude. Iâve always believed this to be a stereotypical depiction that is more of a caricature until I met her. She was a doctor at a hospital I stayed in, and damn, she was just like that. She stormed into the rooms, rolled her eyes at a patient whose German was bad, even though she had a thick accent herself, couldnât be bothered to commit to polite standards of communication like saying hello or thanks, and she didnât care to wait for just a second when a nurse was in her way and pushed her aside instead. Especially two young nurses were exasperated with her and complained about her as soon as she stormed out of the room. They really made me feel like I had gotten myself into a hospital show as a patient, it was fantastic. And I have to say, even though this young doctor had all of these flaws, she was the only one that actually talked to the patients and explained what was going on, hell she even talked to that womanâs daughter on the phone for a few minutes because the woman didnât understand the language. Just like on tv, she may have been rude, but at least she seemed like a good doctor.
INTP: My university department held a conference and I was responsible for making sure that all these professors and PhD students didnât die from their coffee cravings, so I spent most of my time running around with giant coffee cans. And I have to admit, among all the scientists that were roaming the halls, I couldnât help but stare at him. He was a PhD student from the Netherlands and there was just something about him that did not fit in. You know how professors are often a bit eccentric or strange by normal standards (which explains why we had to explain to an unspeakable amount of them how a coffee can works), so youâd imagine heâd fit right in. But he didnât. He was his own universe. While everyone was networking, he was studying the research posters in silence. Not because he was too shy, he seemed very comfortable in his own skin. He just didnât seem to care all that much about other people. I got to listen to a few talks and as he sat in front of me, I saw him play a video game. At an international conference. With professors and colleagues sitting behind him. And he still managed to ask intelligent questions about the talk afterwards. No idea how. Part of me wished I could have talked to him, not because he was cute though he was, but rather because I really could not tell you what kind of person he was. Was he a good person? A bad one? Probably something in-between. But I donât think my opinion would have fazed him all that much, since to me, he seemed like the kind of person that valued his own opinion on himself the most, and I think thatâs a good thing that heâs got there.
ENTP:Â I had just moved to a different city in a completely different part of the country, and I had just gotten back from my first walk around town. Sounds exciting, but I got back to this unfamiliar flat that I was supposed to call home now and I was panicking. So I stepped out on the balcony hoping the cold air and the stars above could calm my nerves. But it wasnât them that did. I stood there in the dark and saw an elderly couple in the parking lot. The woman was in a very similar mental state as me. She was running around their car and was talking about all the things they still had to take care of and things theyâd need, but had forgotten, and her voice got higher and shakier with every word. And then her husband just went and hugged her. She kissed him goodbye three times and every time she did, he let out a little laugh, calm and gentle. He pat her on the back and said that everything was going to be okay, that they would see each other again tomorrow. She kissed him goodbye one last time before she drove away, and I stood there alone in the dark and thanked the universe that I was there at the right time to hear this old manâs words. For some reason he always seems to appear every time Iâm feeling low and strikes up a little chat with me. And every time he leaves, I have already forgotten what I was sad about.
INFJ: I think everyone pursuing an academic career has this one hero, this one scientist that lit the spark in their heart to dedicate their life to science just like them. I know I have one. So when I started an internship at his lab with one of his colleagues, I didnât really expect to meet him. I had seen him around once in a while, yes, but who was I to approach a stranger to tell him what his work meant to me? But then came the plenary meeting that was meant to get more people of the lab to get to know one another - and he approached me. He sat down next to me, asked me about my academic past and future, asked about my current project with his colleague. And I still canât believe it. Only a little girl singing in the church choir who is suddenly approached by BeyoncĂ© can hope to imagine what it felt like. He was an internationally renowned scientist, he would have had every reason to look down on the rest of us. Many of them certainly do. But here he was, talking to a little intern from abroad. He was such a genuinely nice person, was sweet and slightly awkward, he even mirrored my weird head nodding that I always do when all the words have left me. He felt like a kindred spirit. I didnât tell him what these few minutes talking to him meant to me though part of me wishes that I did, yet still he invited me to the meetings of his research team even though I was not a part of it. And when I came and sat down, he turned around, smiled at me and turned away again, and I canât tell you how insane it feels that all of this actually happened.
ENFJ: Iâve written about him before and I will write about him forever. I remember the day our eyes first met in that crowded school corridor almost half of my life ago. I donât know why neither of us could look away that day, why neither of us could ever look away again from this day on. Somehow our eyes always found each other. I remember the snowy day at the train station so many years later, how he stood there alone in the cold and how he slowly walked towards me, his eyes glued to his feet that abruptly stopped right next to mine. And yet he stayed silent. As did I. So we stood there for an hour waiting for our train, quickly averting our eyes every time they came close to meeting. I remember him looking back at me over his shoulder once we got off the train. He seemed quite flustered that I was about to find out that he had parked his car right next to mine and so he fled. Both of us kept parking our cars next to each other, even when we didnât see each other for months. But I could never follow him out. He was my own personal mystery. I spent countless nights staring at the ceiling wondering what it was, this strange thing that was going on between us, this little secret that we shared, and I wondered who he really was inside, not who he pretended to be in front of his friends. He was like an island in their midst, always a bit detached, always tucked away behind a smile. Soon twelve years will have passed and still weâve never spoken a word, but somehow these dark brown eyes still feel more familiar than my own, these eyes that always seemed to look right into my soul. I could have stared at them my whole life. I honestly have no idea what it is that is tying me to him, what it is that I felt back then and what Iâm feeling right now. Maybe Iâll never know. I havenât seen him in three years, but I know our paths will cross again some day. I can feel it in my bones. This story is not over yet. Maybe then weâll finally be ready to meet properly. Maybe then weâll finally be able to speak.Â
INFP: I happened to stand at the window when I saw the new postman approach our letterbox, and so I watched him throw letters and magazines inside - and stop. He moved his head closer to the box and a frown appeared on his face. He backed off, wanted to leave, came back again and didnât seem to know what he was supposed to do. So he rang the doorbell. As I opened the door, there he was, shy and with slight panic in his eyes. âIâm so sorryâ, he said. âThere is a sign on your letterbox that you donât want advertisements, but I saw that too late and I had already thrown it in. Iâm terribly sorry. I canât get it out of the box and so I thought, I should ask if thatâs alright.â And my heart just went awwww, thatâs adorable. I smiled at him and told him that it was absolutely fine. He seemed so relieved. So he went away and I closed the door.
ENFP: This is for the man with the kind, but heartbreakingly sad eyes who sometimes sits in front of the train station silently begging for money. This is for the grandparents who spent their train ride trying to teach their little grandchildren the numbers from one to five. This is for the old woman who always kneels down in the middle of the train station with her forehead pressed to the ground, keeping still for hours, enduring the devastation of thousands of people passing by without stopping. This is for the woman who knelt down next to a homeless man, who took his hand and asked how she could help him. This is for the man who made faces at the little boy sitting next to him on the train to make him laugh. This is for the anger I felt when I saw the distraught face of a 10-year-old boy coming out of the movie â1917â at the cinema with his father. This is for the happy little puppy who lives next to the bakery where I usually grab my lunch. This is for the twenty people who decided to all speak a foreign language during a meeting with each other just because I was there too, a total stranger they had never even seen before who is bad at their native language. This is for the creep that asked me in the middle of the street at night to accompany him. This is for the two teenagers who went to buy sandwiches and coffee for a homeless woman. This is for the families I often see sitting at the train stations, sometimes with a baby in their arms, holding a sign saying âSyrian family. We are hungry, help us please.â This is for the man who yelled at his girlfriend because she gave them some money. This is for the people who play music during everyoneâs morning commute on the train. This is for all the people who approached me speaking in French and started to laugh when I apologised for not being very good at it. This is for Paris, in all its beauty and all its ugliness. This is for humanity, in all its beauty and ugliness.
ISTJ:Â He was sitting alone on the train, looking out of the window while listening to something with headphones. He was a tall guy in his mid-20s, one with a full beard, long brown hair in a neat ponytail, and a t-shirt of some rock band that I had never heard of. So, I was sitting there, three meters away, minding my own business, when I suddenly heard a giggle. The entire car of the train had been quiet all this time as it usually is, so I looked up and saw this guy trying to contain his laughter. He pressed the lips together, scratched his nose in order to inconspicuously cover his mouth. I donât know where this sudden burst of laughter came from. Maybe he was listening to an audio book and reached a funny part. Maybe he was listening to a voice message of a funny friend. Maybe he just had a very amusing thought, I donât know. But Iâve always had a soft spot for people who randomly start laughing in public and get embarrassed about it cause itâs always, always adorable.
ESTJ: She was a PhD student at my university and she was the one who mainly organised the conference that the above mentioned INTP was attending, too. And even though she didnât get tired of complaining about how much work this all was, how typical it was of her boss to volunteer to hold the conference at our university and then not lifting a single finger, she was like a fish in the water, not out of it. She observed everything and everyone, immediately recognised little problems or things that could become a problem, she was constantly running around checking everything, and she kept so many things in mind, it was impressive. One of the attendees sat in a wheelchair and as soon as she noticed, she made us rebuild the entire cafeteria immediately so that everything was reachable for her. And in all the running around, all the obligatory smalltalk, all the stress, she still found the time to stand with us student helpers and joke around.
ISFJ: It was 6pm on a Friday afternoon when all of Paris was trying to get home in the middle of a train strike, so the trains that did run were even more crowded than usual. I did not enjoy sharing 5 square metres with almost 40 other people. But then he entered the train and stood right next to me, leaning against the doors without moving, looking like an intellectual in gangster clothes. We were surrounded by noise of people talking and of rails screaming, by strangers breathing onto our skin, and he just stood there unfazed by it all. He radiated calmness like Iâve never seen anyone do before. Soon it reached me too, filled me up and left no place for any distress or anxiety. He was like an island in the storm that grew and grew and grew until all of the 40 people around him were safe. I felt safe. I donât think he has even the faintest clue about how special he is, but I feel like it has been a privilege to have crossed paths with him.
ESFJ: Did you ever meet someone who, on first glance, looks like the perfect example of a jock, just a short guy with bigger arms than heâs tall? But then you look again, take a closer look at him and you realise that his face has goodness written all over it. He may be horribly bad at grammar for a linguistics student and he may be a bit too sensitive for his own good, but he never made it a secret of how much of a sweetheart he really is. And in situations like these, when he talks about how emotional he got as a tutor when his student told him about a dying grandfather because he felt responsible for the studentâs wellbeing, in situations like these, when he approaches my friend after a class to apologise for his harsh criticism of her presentation and to tell her that he didnât mean it that way, to which she gets all confused because she didnât take the slightest offence to anything he has ever said in his entire life and he mumbles that he may have to stop beating himself up about stuff like this, I just want to give him a hug and never let go.Â
ISTP: I saw her on the metro during rush hour in Paris, and I immediately noticed her to be different. Everyone else always only stares at their phones or into space, everyone else always look like a tired zombie. She was not a zombie. She was leaning against the doors, shaking her leg in the rhythm of the music she was listening to. She was short and skinny, and not even her punk boots could hide that, but there was such a confidence shining out of her, a confidence in who she was that made her look like a giant. She looked like sheâs probably had it rather rough in life, but it didnât break her. She rose to the adversity, rose in spite of it all. She seemed to be capable of so many things. Intelligent enough to go into science if she ever wanted to, vicious enough to end someone who ever dared to cross her, warm enough to love deeply and with all her heart if she let it.
ESTP: It was a hot day and far hotter than a September afternoon ever should be. I was stuck in a traffic jam in the city, melting in my car as were so many others, waiting for that red light to finally turn green. And then he came, a young guy in an ugly shirt and with a hat on his head. He started to cross the street, but then stopped right there in the middle. And he started to juggle. In the middle of a traffic jam on a Friday afternoon, he juggled. Just before his green light turned to red, he bowed down to the cars a few times, and then jumped to the sidewalk and left. Thanks, mate, you enigmatic juggling traffic hero.
ISFP: I met him at a wedding. He was a bald man in his 70s with thick horn glasses and probably the most intimidating person Iâve ever met. Not because he was mean, but because he was so confident in himself and so observant. His gaze constantly changed direction. He took everything in that happened around him, he didnât miss a single thing that was going on, and still he was calm and sure of himself that everyone at our table felt like they had to impress him in some way. Just by looking at him you knew he must have lived an extraordinary life and he really did. He liked talking about himself. He talked about living in the American desert, on a mediterranean island, in a Buddhist monastery, and on a cruise ship. He talked about the smell of the desert at night, about the taste of oranges picked from a tree. He talked about the people he met, about professors and musicians, about cooks and monks. He talked about how much his village loved him. But he also liked listening to others talk about their own lives. It was obvious that he treated life as an experience, as a journey that cannot be planned or imagined, only lived. When we said goodbye, he looked me right in the eye and told me that he thinks itâs great what Iâm doing with my life and that heâs looking forward to meeting me again some day. It felt a bit like receiving praise from a deity.Â
ESFP: He was a nurse in the accident and emergency department at the hospital and the first person to talk to me while I was waiting in front of an examination room. He was only passing by with a colleague, but he stopped the conversation when he saw me and put his hand on my shoulder. âAw, sugarmouse, what happened to you?â, was the first thing he said to me. You know, if an unknown man in his 50s is coming towards you and calls you âsugarmouseâ, youâre usually not exactly happy, but he was just an overwhelmingly non-threatening guy that called all of the nurses and doctors by kitschy nicknames and radiated warmth wherever he went. He had noticed that I was nervous, and so he came to me and tried to gently put my mind at ease and I was really grateful for it.
#writing this took 3 years#nothing happens during a pandemic but all the more important this kind of testimony to these people feels to me#esfj has actually become a friend of mine by now#isfp is part of my family now since it was his brother's and my mother's wedding#and the enfj guy is the same as in the first version of this post that i wrote 5 years ago#i don't know where he is now or what he's doing but i really hope that his life is filled with love and happiness#i just think it's strange that after graduating i never saw 98% of the people i went to school with again#but the two people i did meet again dozens of times? were enfj and his little brother#sometimes it felt like a conspiracy of the universe and we were just too stupid#every time i think about how we had eye contact while driving past each other twice i think iâm going insane#mbti#myers-briggs#types as#strangers i wish i had known#intj#entj#intp#entp#infj#enfj#infp#enfp#istj#estj#isfj#esfj#istp#estp#isfp#esfp

Oh god, okay hear me out. I suffer from insomnia and I couldnât get Childes letter out of my head (btw the English version is so much less âI am in love with youâ than the German one. He literally says in the German version that he misses us and wants us to visit him, like straight up this is a love letter!! The English version is really toned down in comparison).
So. I know his birthday is over, at least where Iâm from. But. I wrote this whole ass fan fic, that is way too long, because I was so inspired by that letter. Iâm not really satisfied with the ending, I honestly wanted to add so much more fluff but⊠I also didnât want to make this too long, I actually planned for it to be short??? help (also itâs 4am now noooo)
Happy birthday, Tartaglia
Genre: a little bit angsty, fluff, comfort
Rating: SFW, though mentions of kissing and sharing a bed
Content warnings: mention of a family death, Bennettâs bad luck lol but both are unrelated haha
Characters: Tartaglia x gn!reader, a guest appearance of Bennett, mention of Zhongli
Word count: 2,796 words (oooh f*ck haha)
-
Youâve been busy the whole day doing some commissions for the Adventures Guild and were now on your way to Mondstadt, when you heard a familiar voice call your name. â(Y/N)!â, Bennett called out to you and ran into your direction. A deep sigh left your throat, while you enjoyed Bennettâs company most of the time⊠you had to deal with a ton of your own bad luck today. Not one of the commissions today went the way they usually did, everything that couldâve gone wrong did go wrong. It was honestly just very frustrating, although you couldnât be really sure if it was because of bad luck or because your mind was somewhere else most of the day. You shook your head, trying to get rid of the tiredness you already felt in your whole body and made your way towards Bennett. No matter what he needed help with you would be sure you could handle it. And in that moment, as the thought of how it wouldnât be a big deal whatever Bennett had on his chest, you saw how the young adventure tripped over his own feet and fell face forwards into the dirt. âOuch, that mustâve hurtâ, you thought while running up to him. âAre you hurt? Here, let me help you up Bennettâ, you asked while helping him get up from the ground. All you got as an answer from him was his usual laugh and smile. âOh man, I really didnât see that stone. Haha, thanks for the concern though!â You couldnât help yourself and chuckled at the way he wiped off the dirt from his clothes. âSo, whatâs up? What do you want from me?.â âYeah, right! I nearly forgot!â, he exclaimed and started fumbling in his bag. âOh, got a present for me?â, you asked sheepishly. âKinda, not really. Here!â Bennett held a letter in his hands, both bandaged again, and stretching it out to you. âA letter? For me?â, you took it in your hands. In a fine handwriting there was your name on it. It didnât even took you a second for you to register whoâs hand writing it was. What a surprise.
Before you could even start to ask Bennett how he got his hands on the letter he was already excitedly explaining it to you. âToday I had a commission on Dragonspine and to be honest, it didnât really went that well until I ran into this one guy. I accidentally activated a few Ruin guards and well, even the most seasoned adventurer canât fight more than one of these at a time and sadly the newest members of Bennyâs adventure team had to go home again before we made it even to the mountain.â
The thought of Bennett nearly finding his end today on Dragonspine really⊠it really did not sit right with you. You made a mental note to ask him later who the new members were that ditched him. After you had your talk with them they wished they had stayed with Bennett on Dragonspine. âWell, in that moment when they approached me that one guy showed up and it only took him a few minutes to defeat them all. (Y/N) that was so cool! I tried to recruit him for my adventure team, but sadly he said he was already occupied with something else. Oh man, it wouldâve been so cool to have him on my adventurer team, imagine with such an excellent fighter no one would be afraid of my bad luck to join my team.â While you enjoyed Bennettâs enthusiasm you had to interrupt him. âWait, wait, Bennett. The person who gave you this letter is on Dragonspine?â
âOh yeah! As I was saying I tried to recruit him for my team, but failed however we talked a bit and somehow he mentioned that he knew you! When I told him we were friends he asked me to give you this letter the next time I saw you.â
You felt how the excitement in you grew. He was on Dragonspine? He was so close to you again? Now you hardly could pay attention to what Bennett continued to say, all that was on your mind was the man, whom you saw the last time months ago in Liyue was so close again. âBennett,â you interrupted him again. âThank you so much for the letter, but I really need to get going. Thank you so much!â
And with that you changed your direction and made your way directly to Dragonspine. âOh? Okay, bye (Y/N)!â, you heard Bennett call after you, but your mind was already occupied with opening that letter he gave you.
With shaking hands you read what stood on that thin paper in that neat and familiar handwriting:
âHey, comrade! How have you been? You must have traveled far and wide since we last saw each other, right?
For me, I can only seek out some entertainment for myself. These past couple of days, Iâve used a work opportunity to explore Dragonspine and seek out some local specialties. I hope they will be of use to you.
The harsh cold of the snow-capped mountains is reminiscent to the scenery of my hometownâŠ
Sigh, Iâve had many mundane days that makes me nostalgic of our time together. Whether itâs a fight or a challenge, I always feel that having you around is what makes life really interesting.
Haha, to be honest, Iâve been planning a special day to meet up with you, today could be that chance! If you have no special plans, how about you swing by my place?
I miss you, Tartagliaâ
Quickly you put the letter in your bag with what accompanied it and now you were basically running towards Dragonspine. Right now you didnât want to think about what kind of âwork opportunityâ there could be for the Harbringer on Dragonspine, all you could think about was seeing him again.
It has been months since you both parted ways in Liyue. You met him while being on a commission, funnily enough it was a bit similar how Bennett ran into him today. In one of Liyues ruins you looked for a book some historian in Liyue Harbour desperately tried to get their hands on. By the amount of Mora they were willing to pay it shouldâve been obvious to you that it wasnât a one-person mission⊠and still, you went alone into those ruins. You had no problem in destroying the first two ruin guards you ran into, but when three activated at the same time⊠If it werenât for Tartaglia back then you would probably be dead. At first you were very thankful for his help, however when you found out he was also there for the book you needed your thankfulness quickly turned into anger. âWell, donât you think I deserve a reward for helping you out, comrade?â, he teased you.
After that day you somehow always managed to run into him in Liyue Harbour or on your commissions. Back then you only knew him by his name used by the Fatui, Childe. Though it was well known in Liyue that he was one of the Harbringers, you somehow didnât get that message after months of openly antagonising him. Only after Childe invited himself to your usual afternoon teas with your friend Zhongli you learned about his affiliations, but also more about him. If someone was hearing two people bickering, the people of Liyue knew it was you two. However none of it was malicious. Somehow it was the way you and Childe showed each other the appreciation you had for one another.
The first dislike you had for him grew quickly into a warm friendship. And that friendship grew in something more after awhile.
The first time you noticed a change in your feelings towards Childe was around the time of the Lantern rite festival. One night you were supposed to meet up with Zhongli - but Childe showed up in his instead. Apparently, so Childe, there was a lot to do at the Parlour because of a new promotion the director wanted to try and needed Zhonglis help with, so Zhongli asked Childe to accompany you to the Lantern rite.
Until this day you werenât sure if this was just a set up by Zhongli, but even if it was, you wouldnât hold it against him.
That night, when you and Childe walked around Liyue Harbour and watched the lanterns something fundamentally changed between the two of you. After that night you knew so much more about him and he about you. From that day on he wasnât Childe anymore, he was Tartaglia. And both of you finally knew how the lips of the other felt on your own.
Now you were so close again to feel his warm arms around you, to listen to the sound of his heartbeat when you rested your head on his chest and to feel his lips on yours again. Oh how you missed him too.
Parting ways wasnât easy. Both of you knew that it was best to not be so public with your relationship, for several reasons. On the one hand the Fatui werenât what you would call popular - most people would use some stronger word to describe them. Being a Mondstadt citizen in Liyue openly dating a member of the Fatui, yeah no. On the other it was also not really well liked by the Tsaritsa for the members of the Fatui, no matter if you were just a low henchman or a Harbringer, to get involved in that way with outsides. With ânot well likedâ it was more implied that she forbade any romantic relationships outside and inside the Fatui ranks when they were on a mission. And Tartaglia was on a mission, a mission you knew nothing about, but to be honest? You preferred it that way. The longer you were able to ignore what it meant for him to be part of the Fatui, the better.
So because of all of this you both decided it would be best to keep the relationship in the shadows.
You both knew for sure was that you had to part ways one day, however none of you expected that you were the one going home before Tartaglia. There were a lot of nights of laying in bed with him, sharing stories from each of your homes. You told him about the Windblume Festival and Ludi Hapestrum, he told you about the festivals and traditions of Snezhnaya. When you shared stories of how your little siblings and you loved to collect as many dandelions as possible when you were children to pretend that it was snowing in the summer, he would counteract that story with the times he built entire fortresses with his siblings out of the snow in the winter. Only to then pull you closer and whisper in your ear that heâll show you how to do that when you come with him back to Snezhnaya. You would always whisper back âokay, but first youâd need to glide with me off Startsnatch cliffâ. The lovely nights you both spend together, telling each other of your homes and how much you want to show it to them were harshly interrupted by a letter you got from your family.
Life sometimes isnât fair. Itâs hard and it brutal and itâs short. So when you got the letter from your family informing you that the youngest member of the family had died, it broke you to pieces. They were only 14. That night Tartaglia held you in his arms, his hand on the back of your head, your head pressed into his chest and none of you could say a word. Only the sound of you crying piercing the quite room. Too heavy was the grief for anything to be said anyways.
The day immediately after you received that letter you and Tartaglia parted way, a quite and sad goodbye. None of you were actually sure when you would see each other again. With his hands against your tear stained face, the tears not only being shed out of grief but also out of the pain you had to leave your lover, he promised to write you as often as he could. You promised you would answer. And then you left, wishing he could come with you. Words you did not dare to speak, because you knew he couldnât, no matter how much he wanted to.
Now you found yourself close to one of the Fatui camps on Dragonspine. It was quite irresponsible to just run up the mountain, without any proper preparation or knowledge where Tartaglias camp actually was. You sighed. The excitement of seeing him after such a long time, after just exchanging letters got the best of you. Frustrated with yourself you made your way towards the campsite, hoping that this time the Fatui henchmen wouldnât immediately start attacking every stranger they see. However when you arrived at the camp site you saw that no one was there. Too exhausted from the commissions earlier in the day and running up the Dragonspine you let yourself fall down in front of the extinguished campfire. Slowly but surly the cold weather of the Dragonspine was catching up to you.
Going through your bag you were looking for the stones Tartaglia send with his letter, hoping to ignite a fire with them. But before you could find them you heart footsteps in the snow behind you.
You hadnât even had the chance to turn around before you felt two arms looping around your body, immediately warming you up.
âHey comrade, did you miss me?â
You felt his head on your shoulders and you couldnât help but to lean your own against his. One of your hands made its way up to his face, touching his cheek. âYes,â you whispered.
Turning your head you now looked into his deep blue eyes, they were filled with all the love he had for you. You wished he could look at you like this forever⊠that you could look at him forever.
Tartaglia leaned a bit forward, placing a soft kiss on your lips and you couldnât help it but smile.
He slowly pulled away, entangling himself from the hug and holding his hand out to you. âCome, letâs go inside the tent. You must be freezing out hereâ.
Inside the tent Tartaglia threw one blanket on another blanket over another over you, while lecturing you on what appropriate clothing was for a weather like this. You really didnât give it any second thought when you made your way to Dragonspine, still wearing the same clothes you would wear on a sunny day in Mondstadt. But you also couldnât hide it how much you loved to just hear his voice, even when he was nagging you. âItâs fine really, now stop trying to bury me under all the blankets and warm me up yourselfâ, you took his hand and pulled him towards you onto the plank. âYou know some people would find what you said very suggestivâ, he joked, joining you under the immense amount of blankets. âMmmmh,â was the only thing you replied, completely enamoured with him having you by your side again. For a few minutes the both of you just laid there, close to each other and feeling each otherâs heartbeat.
None of you could actually believe your luck to be in the arms of the other again. How much you had missed this. Missed him.
âHey,â he spoke softly, making you look into his eyes again. âHow youâve been doing?â.
It was such a soft question and you knew what he meant. You wanted to tell him how exhausting everything has been since your arrival, how your family was breaking apart at all ends, what a shit show it all was. In your letters you only alluded to how bad it actually is. How it was all just made worse by him not being at your side. Though you knew you would have to tell him all of this sooner or later, right now you didnât want to talk about it. Not in detail. Not when today was actually his special day. âItâs manageable, but better now that Iâm here with youâ, you replied to his question. âYou?â
âBetter, now that I have you hereâ, was his reply. You both smiled at each other, a warm and tender smile. Slowly you adjusted your position so that you now were laying on top of him, your chin on his chest. âHey, there is something I forgot to tell you.â
âOh, and what is it?â
âHappy Birthday, Tartagliaâ, and with that you kissed him.

LOVE LIKE THE MOVIES // BUCKY BARNES
TWOÂ - Grease 1 & 2
MasterlistÂ
Summary: This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Bucky Barnes, finds himself thrown into a world that seems so different from everything heâs ever known. The girl, (Y/N) knows entirely too much about rom-coms and is quite particular about the way she eats her popcorn. Bucky meets (Y/N) a few months after returning to NYC. He knows almost immediately that becoming her friend is inevitable. This is a story of boy meets girl. This is a story about love. (Bucky Barnes x female!Reader // a few spoilers for TFATWS)

â Â I made a friend. â
Dr. Raynor doesnât look up from her notebook but the slightly surprised raise of her eyebrow doesnât get lost on Bucky.
â Thought you might want to know. â
She stops writing for a second and glances up at him, her eyes holding a certain sense of hesitation and reluctance. He can almost see the gears in her head turning. Sheâs trying to get one step ahead of him, figure out what smartass comment heâll throw at her. Only this time there isnât one. This time itâs all genuine. Itâs all true.
â I do. Thatâs â good. Whereâs the catch? â
â Thereâs no catch. I made a new friend, just like that. And itâs not some making amends thing either. â
She closes her notebook, places it on the table to her right, and then folds her hands in her lap the way she does sometimes when Bucky knows heâs said something important. He has her entire and undivided attention.
â Thatâs good, James. Tell me more about this friend. â
â Her name is (Y/N). Sheâs a waitress and sheâs really into movies. â
â Oh. â
â Oh? â
â Itâs a woman. â
â Yeah itâs a woman, is that a problem? â Bucky asks. Now itâs time for him to raise an eyebrow in question.
â No. Itâs not. I just didnât expect it. â
â Are you saying men and women canât be friends? Thatâs awfully antiquated thinking, Doc. Have you ever seen when Harry met Sally? â
â I have. Have you?â
Bucky scoffs as if the question is an insult to his intelligence.
â Sure. Itâs a classic. â
He hits her with a sarcastic grin, the one he knows she hates. The one she knows is fake and fabricated but that allows him to be unreadable to her for just a second.
â Well then. Iâm glad youâre making friends. Itâs a big step, James. But I donât want you to get attached to someone because you think thatâs gonna make you get out of this arrangement any sooner, â she says and motions her finger around the room in a twirling motion. â Itâs a more permanent situation. I hope you are aware of that.â
Eyes averted to the floor, Bucky nods his head in understanding.
â I know. Thatâs not the reason. I â she knows me. Knows about me before all of the bad stuff. In her eyes, I am the man I used to be before Hydra. Itâs nice to go back to that even if itâs not the truth. (Y/N) gives me a chance to figure out who I am right now without being reminded of all the bad things I did. â
When he looks back up Dr. Reynor regards him with a look heâs never seen before. Softer. She even smiles a little bit and he hardly ever sees her smile. Granted, he doesn't make these sessions easy for her so what does he expect really? Her smiling at him feels like heâs doing something right.
â She sounds lovely. â
â She talks so much and she sends me weird videos I donât understand. Like, yesterday she sent me one of a kid saying heâs 19 and he canât read and â I have no idea what it meant. And she makes fun of me for having a flip phone. But itâs not mean-spirited or anything. She doesnât make me feel left out. Doesnât make me feel stupid. â
â Anything else you know about her? â
â Her coffee tastes horrible. â
Dr. Reynor lets out an airy chuckle. â James, I like the fact that youâre making friends. We all need friends, especially during times when we feel like weâre lost or have no direction in life. And it sounds like this friendship is good for you. â
â But? â
â Why do you think thereâs a but ? â
â There always is. â
She regards him for a second then nods slightly. â Youâre right. But itâs not a bad one. Listen, it seems like this woman knows a lot about who you used to be. How about you learn a little more about her? Even the playing field. A friendship is based on mutual understanding and trust. Thatâs my homework for you. Get to know her better. â
â Your homework is for me to spend time with a friend? â
â Yes. Now that doesnât sound so bad, does it? â
Bucky shakes his head in reply.
No, that really doesnât sound all that bad.
The bell above the door chimes as Bucky steps inside the diner. Itâs quite a bit more crowded than the last time heâs been here.
â Grumpy!â
His head snaps towards the counter at the enthusiastic exclamation of his new nickname.
(Y/N) stands behind the counter clad in the dinerâs signature baby blue polo shirt, a pencil tugged behind her ears, and a frilly apron wrapped around her waist.
Her lips pull into a smile as he approaches and plops down onto one of the barstools.
â You have impeccable timing, Grumpy.â
â I guess thatâs gonna stick? â
(Y/N) only nods her head in agreement, eyes full of mischief and determination. Thereâs no sense in arguing about this topic. Thatâs one nickname set in stone now. And really, itâs not like it doesnât fit him.
â I have something for you. â
â You do? â
â Well itâs not technically for you specifically but I need someone to try it so â â
Before he can even react she rushes back into the kitchen, her sneakers creating squeaking sounds on the shiny linoleum floor.
â Do you want some coffee? â the other waitress approaches, holding out the pot filled with the dark brew. It smells warm and delicious and Bucky wants to say yes until he remembers the last time heâs had coffee here and how bitter and burned it had been. And how he drank it anyway because he couldnât bear to let (Y/N) know that her coffee was horrible.
â Donât worry, â the waitress speaks up again, obviously picking up on Buckyâs complicated feelings towards the dinerâs coffee â I made it. Wonât let her near the pot when Iâm around.â
â In that case, please. â
Just as the mug fills with coffee, (Y/N) comes back tumbling around the corner and out of the kitchen. She leans against the counter, next to the red-haired waitress, and plops a Tupperware container in front of Bucky.
â Try these and tell me what you think. â
Bucky takes a sip of his coffee before slowly opening the container to be greeted by a pile of cookies, of all shapes and sizes, no two quite the same.
â Cookies? â
â Eat one! â
â Whoa, hold up.â Bucky exclaims as he raises his hands in mock defense. â this sounds awfully suspicious to me. Are you trying to pull a Snow White on me here? â
(Y/N) eyes grow big and the most radiant smile spreads across her face at his words.
â You made a pop culture reference!â
â Saw it in the cinema. â
â No way.â
â Mmmh. With my sister.â
â I just decided I love it when you make pop culture references. â
â Noted.â
â Okay, so since no one thinks itâs important to introduce me, let me do it myself,â the red-haired waitress chimes in and holds out her hand for Bucky to shake. He can see her eyebrows furrow a little as she notices his gloves. Itâs not yet cold enough for people to not wonder about it. They know something ainât right with him and he hates it. Wishes theyâd just disregard it. Act like itâs a completely normal and feasible thing.
â Iâm Robin, (Y/N)âs best friend. â
â Iâm Bucky. Hopefully, not the first victim of (Y/N)âs poisoning.â
â Oh, how arrogant of you to assume youâd be the first. If you donât want my cookies, give âem back !â
(Y/N) tries to reach across the counter only for Bucky to snatch the container away holding it out of her reach. â You gave me the cookies, you canât take them back. Thatâs not how gifts work.â
â Then try one for godâs sake! â
â Alright, calm down. I will. â
He hates the fact that both (Y/N) and Robin are staring at him as he takes a bite of one of the cookies. The whole thing is almost the size of his face and littered with chocolate chips. Itâs a damn mess of a cookie and heâd loved to have been there when she made them. No doubt it was chaos. No doubt it was an awful lot of fun too.
The cookie is â a lot. Itâs too much sugar, too much chocolate. Too much of everything. He can practically feel the cavities building with every bite he takes. Itâs that sweet.
But she looks at him with such glee in her eyes and this big beautiful smile that rivals the sun with its brightness and thereâs no way in hell he can tell her the truth. Not when lying about it keeps that smile on her face.
Quite honestly, Â Bucky thinks, life isnât about telling the truth at all times. Sometimes, life is about knowing when to use your little white lies. Sometimes telling the truth isnât doing anyone any favor.
â So ? â
â Theyâre â sweet.â
And they are. So really, it isnât even an actual lie after all.
â Good. Theyâre supposed to be. You see, I have a date tomorrow and I asked him what his favorite dessert was and he said cookies. Iâm not sure they count as a dessert but anyway. Thanks for being my guinea pig. â
Robin throws him a look over (Y/N)âs shoulder. A look that lets him know sheâs not buying it. Sheâs looking right through him. But she smiles so maybe she too realizes that sometimes lying saves everyone the heartache that may come with the truth.
â You have a date? â
â I do. His name is Russell, weâve been hanging out for a while but he had to go to Europe for work and we havenât seen each other in a few months. It was never anything serious, kind of a wrong place, wrong time thing. But maybe this time it works. â
â Oh please, â Robin exclaims, furiously slamming the pot back into the coffee machine. â This loser has been stringing you along for far too long now. Heâs not worth it. Trust me you can do so much better than him. â
Thereâs something about the way (Y/N) mood changes, the way she falters, that Bucky doesnât like. Not even a tiny little bit. Itâs a split second, just the whisper of a moment and then sheâs back to her joking, bubbly self. But that tiny second is enough. Enough for Bucky to know he never wants to see it again. The doubt and hurt fluttering across her eyes. Heâs seen too much hurt in too many eyes. Itâs never getting any easier. It just makes him realize how much he hates seeing it in hers.
â Ignore the crazy lady, heâs not that bad.â (Y/N) tries to reason, though the light and airy tone in her voice doesnât sound quite as convincing as it usually does.
â He refuses to put a label on your relationship and he treats you like youâre disposable. â
â Sounds like a catch, is this the one with the fish picture or the one with the star wars facts? â Bucky asks, biting off yet another piece of the tooth-achingly sweet cookie.
â Neither. We met while walking our dogs. Heâs nice, really. â
â Sounds like it. â
â He is. Robin over there just thinks sheâs the expert on romance because sheâs about to get married. Donât believe a thing she says. Her own fairytale romance makes her blind to other peopleâs romantic struggles. â
Robin shakes her head in disagreement, making her red curls bounce with each motion. â Youâre a big girl, you know what youâre doing. Iâm just calling things as I see them. Anyway, I gotta serve table 4.â
Silence falls upon them as Robin leaves to tend to the customers and (Y/N) averts her eyes back towards the countertop.
â Hey, â Bucky speaks up, getting (Y/N) to look up and meet his eyes. â I hope the date turns out well for you, you deserve that. And if it doesnât, just text me and we can watch another movie or something. â
â Youâd do that for me? â
â Yeah. Sure. Itâs what friends do. Weâre friends now â right ? â
(Y/N) smiles â right!â
And itâs nice, Bucky thinks, to have a friend again. Even though itâs all new and fresh, it feels wonderful. Like a tiny bit of weight has been taken from his shoulders. Like he can take a breath for the first time in a long time.
Joeâs Pizzaria is an American restaurant that tries desperately to trick Americans into thinking itâs an authentic Italian restaurant.
And while it does have a certain undeniable charm, (Y/N) gets a bit tired of chomping down on yet another breadstick while staring at the red and white checkered tablecloth and pretending not to grasp the gravity of the situation. Heâs not gonna come. Heâs two hours late. Two whole hours. Half a bottle of wine and one salad late. The waiters pity her, itâs painfully obvious. The way they keep checking on her, keep asking if thereâs anything they can bring her. Keep filling her breadstick with no upcharge.
Pity, (Y/N) thinks, is her least favorite emotion. It doesnât do anyone any good and in the end, everyone just feels worse.
A "ping" coming from her phone pulls (Y/N) from her thoughts and for a teeny-tiny second a flicker of hope sparks in her heart that maybe Russell is just late and this is him apologizing and explaining. Maybe she was worth it to him after all.
Then her eyes register the name on the screen and disappointment fills her veins. Does he really not care? Does she really mean so little to him, he doesn't even feel the need to cancel the date? Is this some sick joke?
Bucky's message reads: Hope you're having fun. Did he like the cookies?
It's a weird feeling, to know someone she hasn't known for very long wastes even the smallest thought on her while her date doesn't give a shit. All it does is set into perspective that her blossoming friendship with Bucky is worth any effort it might take.
"Don't ask. Hey, what are you doing right now?"
"Oh, that bad? Not much. Trying to figure out what to have for dinner. Why?"
"How do you feel about spaghetti and meatballs?"
He doesnât have a couch.
Thatâs the one thought that spooks around his head as soon as he realizes what heâs just agreed to.
Heâs been living here for months and he doesnât even have a fucking couch.
When (Y/N) asked if she could come around, when she said sheâd bring food and asked if her dog could come, he couldnât say no. Not when she's already been stood up that night. Nevertheless, everything inside him starts twisting up in knots at the thought of opening his home to another person. Home. Thatâs really the problem now that he thinks about it. This place doesnât feel like a home. Itâs 4 walls and a roof. Nothing has felt like home in a long time.
He invited her over and he doesnât even have a fucking couch.
Thereâs a TV and an armchair, a few cupboards, a chair, and a bed he doesnât sleep in. Sometimes he thinks back to his childhood home, with all his mother's porcelain figurines collecting dust on the shelves and the wall of family pictures. It felt warm and cozy and like it was meant for people to live and learn and grow. It was their own.
This apartment is a box for him to stay at. Nothing here is in any way personal. But how do you make something your own when you donât even know who you really are? When all you remember are times long gone or times you want to forget.
He snatches the sheets and pillow off the floor and throws them on his bed. He might not be able to get any more furniture in time for (Y/N) to arrive but he sure as hell doesnât need to let her know that his nightmares donât allow him to sleep in his own damn bed.
A knock sounds from the front door and for a second, Buckyâs blood turns cold as ice. No one ever talks about how scary it is to let people in. Would it matter to her and their friendship that his apartment is just as empty as he feels inside?
As soon as he opens the door, a fluffy bundle of white and brown fur rushes past him and runs a lap around his living room before settling by his feet, tail wagging and tongue hanging from his mouth.
â Oh god, sorry. Sheâs just so excited to meet new people. â
Giving the dog a few pets, Bucky turns back to (Y/N), who gives him one of her signature sunshine smiles as she holds out a paper bag to him. The smell of delicious food reaches Buckyâs nose as he takes the bag from her and ushers her inside.
â So, Spaghetti? â
â Yup. And meatballs. â
Bucky nods his head in approval, â Sounds good to me. â
She smiles at him again but thereâs a kind of sadness surrounding her that he wishes he could take away. Whoever that Russell guy is, heâs a damn fool for not showing up.
â Foodâs still warm so if you tell me where your plates are ⊠â (Y/N) trails off as she really takes in the state of his apartment for the first time since sheâs stepped inside. He can basically see the thoughts running through her head, one after the other, none sticking around long enough to form a coherent string of words to express what sheâs thinking. He knows she wants to comment, can see it in her eyes. But something is holding her back and he canât blame her. Their friendship isnât that deep yet. You donât ask someone youâve just gotten friendly with why their apartment is so fucking empty. Itâs sad and there are implications there that run deeper than one can see.
So to spare her any more awkward silence, Bucky speaks up again.
â I uh â I just moved in. Havenât gotten around to getting much furniture. We can sit by the kitchen counter or you can take the armchair and Iâll take the floor. â
â Thatâs fine, weâll make it work, â she replies, before turning towards the kitchen cupboards, â now ⊠plates ?â
â This is delicious â Bucky exclaims as he stuffs yet another fork of Spaghetti into his mouth.
Lady, (Y/N)'s Cocker Spaniel, casually lounges on his armchair, eyes always trained on the dishes of pasta, while Bucky and (Y/N) sit on the floor, backs against the wall.
â Right? I love Meatballs. Last time I was at Joeâs Pizzeria, I was there with Russell and he got real pretentious about not ordering Spaghetti and Meatballs from an Italian restaurant because it wasnât authentic Italian cuisine. As if I care. It tastes good, thatâs all that matters.â
â Well, he really does sound better with every new thing you tell me about him.â
(Y/N) shrugs and avoids eye contact with him. Itâs strange, Bucky thinks, to see her this way. All of her bubbly personality and contagious energy are suddenly drained from her. Like someone squeezed her too tightly and pushed all the joy out.
â Yeah heâs an asshole, I donât know what I was thinking. I guess whatever we had going on just felt familiar and sometimes going back to something you know, even though itâs bad for you, is easier than opening yourself to something new. â
â Wow, my therapist would love you. That sounded so smart.â
â It did, didnât it?,â (Y/N) says and lets out a little chuckle. Itâs nice to hear her laugh even though it doesnât hold the radiance, the pure happiness it usually does.
âShe gave me some homework.â
(Y/N) looks at Bucky between bites, raising an eyebrow in intrigue. â She did? â
â Mmmh. I told her about you and our friendship and she thought that, because you know a lot about me, I should learn some things about you. â
(Y/N) quickly swallows the pasta before placing both her hands over her heart and staring at Bucky with an expression he canât entirely read. Thereâs a glimmer of mischief in her eyes but thereâs more, he just needs to figure out what exactly it is.
â You talk to your therapist about me? Awww. Thatâs how you know a friendship is worthwhile. When they mention you to their therapist, thatâs when you know itâs real. â
â Aw man, now youâre just making fun of me. I take it all back. â
â No! No, Bucky. I think thatâs very sweet and it makes me feel important,â thereâs a sincerity in her eyes that makes him feel a little weird. Not a bad weird. Just â different. He didnât think this was gonna be such a big deal to her. And while he still feels extremely self-conscious about it all, heâs a little glad that he mentioned her to Dr. Reynor. Maybe it would do both of them some good, him and (Y/N).
â Itâs nice that our new friendship matters enough for you to mention it to her. Getting stood up by Russell felt like a punch in the guts. It made me feel incredibly inadequate and like I wasnât worth enough for him to text me let alone show up. Knowing that thereâs someone who thinks about me every once in a while, thatâs a nice feeling. Least my friends think Iâm worth it. "
Hearing those words fall from her lips sends a wave of anger and disbelief through Bucky. (Y/N) is the first person in a long while that makes him feel like he can figure out who he is and who he was and not feel guilty about it. To think she feels inadequate or like she's not good enough is just unbelievable to him.
"Just forget about that guy, he's clearly an idiot. You deserve someone who shows up. When it matters and even when it doesn't. "
"He didn't even get to try my cookies. I worked so hard on them."
"What? Oh my god, okay see - he's a damn fool. Those cookies were - so sweet. His loss, really."
(Y/N)'s laughter echoes through the halls of his empty apartment and Bucky thinks that maybe that was one of the things missing from this place to really make it a home. Emotions. Laughter and joy. Something other than fear and regret. Something other than pain.
â Bucky, youâre so nice but you donât have to lie. I know the cookies werenât all that great. â
â No! They were good, they were just â very sweet. And you know what? You deserve a guy who eats them anyway.â
She doesnât give him a reply to that comment and maybe it doesnât ask for one either. Some statements donât need answers, they just are.
â Hey, do you want my last meatball? â he asks, and at her smile and enthusiastic nod, he rolls it from his plate onto hers.
â Now what movie did you bring? â
â Oh boy, â (Y/N) proclaims and looks at Bucky with an unwavering excitement â youâre in for a wild ride. Tonight weâre doing a double feature.â
â Bringing the big guns, huh? â
â You have no idea. Tonight weâre watching Grease 1 and 2. â
Two couples stare back at Bucky from the bubblegum-colored DVD case (Y/N) pulls from her purse. Something about the bright colors and the over-the-top hairstyles makes Bucky think that these movies wonât be the absolute pinnacle of sophisticated filmmaking.
â Whatâs the lesson this time?â
â Eh, â (Y/N) says and shrugs â when I was younger I thought it was meant to teach you that if you want to be with someone you can overcome any obstacle. No matter how different you seem or what other people might think. Now that Iâm an adult I think itâs just about the 50s aesthetic and the killer musical number. â
â Musical numbers? â
â Mmmh. And well, the second one is pure garbage but itâs so bad itâs good. It also helps that Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield look absolutely gorgeous in this film. â
â So this isnât gonna help me with my romance skills then? â
(Y/N) regards him for a second, purses her lips, and taps the side of her face as she thinks about her answer. â I mean, the second movie is basically about how cool men who ride motorcycles are. Do you ride a motorcycle? â
â I do actually. â
â What? Oh, you just got 10 times cooler. One could say youâre a â cool rider.â
Bucky furrows his eyebrow in confusion.
â Donât worry, Grumpy. Youâll get the reference later.â
â If Iâm Grumpy, which of the 7 dwarves are you? â
â Sleepy? â
â Dopey? â
â No. How about Happy ?â
Itâs meant to be silly, just a joke really, but Bucky canât help but think that it fits her. Even when sheâs sad, thereâs an infinite positivity in her eyes, an aura of joy and happiness and being around her is just so easy.
â You know what? I think thatâs the one. â
â I like it. Now â let me introduce you to the students of Rydell High.â
â What in the world did you just make me watch? â Bucky asks as the end credits to Grease 2 roll across the tv screen. Lady is snuggled up in his lap and his right hand lazily combs through her soft fur.
â Two absolute masterpieces. â
â In the first one they flew away in a car. And that second one, I donât even know what to say.â
â Because it was so good? â
â Mmmmh no. That's not why. â
"Oh please, you can admit you l-" a big yawn interrupts her words and Bucky notices just how tired she looks right then.
"You're tired." It's not a question, more an observation.
"Mmmh Lady and I should probably head out."
He doesn't want her to leave. Disappointment, it's a feeling he knows very well, it's familiar and almost comfortable. Usually, though, that disappointment is directed towards himself. A lovely dose of self-deprecation. This time it's different. This time he's disappointed about the situation. About the prospect of being alone again. Alone in his empty box of an apartment.
The anxiety of letting someone in is slowly being overshadowed by his fear of being alone again. With his thoughts and his failures and the images of all the faces that have ever looked at him in fear.
"You can stay"
"Bucky ⊠you don't have a couch. Where would I sleep?"
"Bed," he says as if it's the most obvious of all answers ever given.
"Grumpy, I'm not taking your bed."
"I'm not sleeping there anyway."
"Why?"
Her eyes are so soft and gentle as the question tumbles from her lips. So full of concern. For him. Concern and care, for him. It's not like he deserves it but it's a nice feeling either way.
"It's too soft."
It's painfully obvious that she knows there's more to it, that his words hold more gravity and weight than just that simple fact.
She doesnât push it though and for that Bucky is eternally grateful. Sure, talking to her is easy and it helps him in some way or another. But this, his nightmares and his trauma and the faces that won't leave his thoughts, that haunt him as soon as he falls asleep, that's a can of worms he's not ready to open yet.
"Where do you sleep?"
"Floor."
"Oh, Grumpy. Hey uh - how about we both stay on the floor? You're in luck too because I also have a live version of Grease the musical we can watch."
He doesn't necessarily want to watch another movie where they sing pretty much every two minutes but if it means she'll stay, he'll do it.Â
" Okay then."
"Okay."
That night, Bucky sleeps on the floor just like he does every night only this time there's a friend with him just a few meters away , close enough but not suffocating, and a dog resting on his chest, softly breathing gentle breaths.
That night Bucky sleeps on the floor just like he does every night only this night, there are no nightmares.

His Dark Materials - Season 2 Episode 7 *FINALE* (Thoughts and Rambles)
We have a LOT to unpack here oh my god oh my god
When I say I was screaming and yelling during the episode, I mean I was LITERALLY screaming and yelling
This post is mostly screeching and capital letters, youâve been warned
âSo coldâ âlife or death meant nothingâ - well shit. Accurate description of a Spectre attack damn
I didnât know what those creepy noises were at first and I was sat here absolutely TERRIFIED because it was creepy as fuck. Then I realized it was cliff ghasts because they said something that I recognized from the book and I was like âoh shitâ
Pan and Will talking is the sweetest omg
The fact that Pan told him that Lyra thinks heâs as brave as King Iorek Byrnison :â)
âSheâs the best friend Iâve ever hadâ âYouâre her best friend tooâ - STOP, MY HEART
Lyra was awake and heard the whole conversation :3
âIâm no longer an aeronautâ :(Â âIâm an insectâ - LMAO
Hester and Leeâs banter remains my favourite thing and now itâs bittersweet tbh...
âYou could never be an insect, Leeâ âOkay, hareâ - bless them
Marisa finding where Lyra was staying and then finding Lyraâs coat?? And crying with it pressed to her face?? :â(
In case I havenât mentioned it already, I am incredibly gay for the witches/their aesthetic/costume. Absolutely beautiful queens, all of them
Oh hi, itâs Mary and the two kids!
The fact that Mary helped them find their adults :â)
Also, âWe like you missâ - BLESS
Iâm kind of confused as to whether the blue flower petals are important or if itâs just her smelling them? IDK
âIâm close to my father, itâs time I found himâ - OOF OKAY UMM ARE YOU SURE
âI let my best friend downâ - Noooo Lyra, no you didnât! :( Your dad is a terrible parent and killed him, thatâs not your fault!
âMaybe this is how I let you downâ - Well done, Asriel and Marisa, youâve fucked up a perfectly fine child is what youâve done
Will telling Lyra that she hasnât let him down :3
That witch turning up because she was trying to warn Marisa about the spectres, only for Marisa to torture and kill her... oof
FUCKING MONKEY I CANâT DECIDE HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM
âSheâs MY daughterâ - Okay, damn, lady...
âEVE. Sheâs the mother of allâ - OH FUCK YOU TOLD HER. OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK
THE SPECTRE ATE HER DĂMON OMG NO THIS IS HORRIFYING WTAF
Seriously, the way the witch went so grey and lifeless and just fell to her knees and down... Urgh, my stomach is turning
Just when I thought I hated the monkey again, he starts whimpering because heâs afraid of the Spectres :(
âStop whimperingâ - DAMN MARISA YOU ARE A STONE COLD BITCH HUH
Pan being the damn voice of reason and telling Lyra they should stay with the witches like yes, Lyra, listen to him for once!!!
Okay but why are the Magisterium soldiers lowkey dressed like German soldiers from one of the World Wars???
Iâm not really surprised that BBC left out the detail of Ruta and Asriel fucking when she found him to be honest XD
So the witches think that the ĂsahĂŠttr is a person but itâs actually the KNIFE. AND THEY DONâT REALIZE. RUTA YOU DONâT NEED TO GO ANYWHERE, ITâS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE
â...Thatâs not my dĂŠmon.â âRun.â - OH SHIT OKAY MY WHOLE BODY JUST TENSED UP
So umm Lee got shot and FUCK NO FUCK NO IâM NOT READY FOR THIS EMOTIONALLY THANKS
I LITERALLY DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN OKAY
âYouâre either with me or against meâ Umm heâs your dĂŠmon?!?!
THE WAY SHE SCREAMED AT HIM OH MY GOD SHEâS FUCKING TERRIFYING HOLY CRAP
âWhat are you frightened of?â - oh, I donât know, Marisa, maybe because YOU FUCKING SCREECHED AT HIM. MAYBE HEâS FRIGHTENED OF YOU
Also I love the detail of Marisa getting onto her hands and knees, sort of crouching and mirroring the monkeyâs body language. I just love the parallel
The way the monkey flinched from her when she went to touch him omg :( No dĂŠmon should be THIS afraid of their person (or at all?!?!)
Honestly, I find this seriesâ portrayal of Marisa fascinating tbh
âWe have to do whatever it takes to keep her safeâ - Umm, like maybe drugging her and hiding her in a cave for months? đ€
Also in case I didnât say this before, the fact she has complete control of the Spectres is fucking scary and always has been from the very first time I read the books
Okay so Lee is fully aware that heâs going to die if he stays behind but he does it because he knows that itâs the best chance of making sure that Lyra ends up under the knifeâs protection (because Jopari will find her). All Lee wants is for Lyra to be safe and that hurts my heart so much, he loves this child so much :â(
âI love that little girl like a daughterâ - LEE STOP MY HEART IS ALREADY BREAKING AS IT IS
NO NO NO NO I AM NOT AND NEVER WILL BE READY
Oh hey Red PAN-da (sorry I know I keep repeating that joke but honestly LOOK AT HIM)
âOnce I change, youâll stop changingâ - OH SHIT. So weâre having THAT conversation then
âWhat do you think youâll be?â âA flea I hopeâ - LMFAO I LOVE IT
âIs it Will thatâs changing you?â âI thinkâ - FORESHADOWING FOR AMBER SPYGLASS ANYONE?!
All the meanwhile, while Lee is dying and shit is going down, Ms Mary Malone is just chilling in a cave on a mountain by a waterfall, just reading
I literally struggled to watch Leeâs final scenes. I literally didnât want to watch it because I cried reading it in the book, and I knew Iâd be the same here
The fact that Lee HATES taking away peopleâs lives but he says âitâs theirs or Lyraâsâ... I love him. He loves her so much.
âThink about anything, think about bacon!â - LMFAO I LOVE YOU HESTER YOU ABSOLUTE GEM
THE BULLET CLIPPED HIS SCALP AND I HAD A HEART ATTACKÂ
âThis is my fault, isnât it?â - NO HESTER NO DONâT YOU DARE BLAME YOURSELF DARLINâ, YOU ARE THE BEST AND WE LOVE YOU AND LEE LOVES YOU
I do this everytime I read the book and I did here even though I know what happens, but I was praying mentally that maybe Serafina would reach Lee in time... just maybe...
Iâm really sitting here crying over Hester and Lee on a Sunday night, love that for me
Hester limping :(
âDonât you go before I doâ - FUCK YOU BBC AND PHILIP IâM SOBBING MY EYES OUT
âOh how far we flewâ - STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW I SWEAR-
I literally yelled and cried out âNOOOâ when Hester faded away and Lee died. I am so upset even though I KNEW it was coming. I am literally not okay.
Oh god no Will, now is not the time to be walking away from Lyra and that witchÂ
Also why is that witch asleep on guard?? Come on, love, do better, itâs not like these are the two most important children in all the universes....Â
To be fair to Marisa, Iâd feel pretty invincible if I were climbing up a mountain while the Spectres were guarding me/on my side
WILL AND JOHN FINALLY MET AHHHH
âI was told Iâd find my father hereâ - YEAH AND THATâS HIM WILL ASDFGHJKL;
Iâm low-key disappointed that thereâs no brawl between Will and Jopari here. Like they instantly recognize each other and... hmm. I know there has to be changes but still.
âYour mother, Will, where is she?â - Awww. John really didnât stop loving her :â)
âMy son... is the Knife Bearerâ - oooooohhhhhhh
âYou have a dĂŠmonâ - thatâs right, Will. Donât worry, youâll get one next season
The way I audible went âoh shITâ when Mrs Coulter found Lyra fast asleep. Like I said, I knew what was going to happen but STILL
Iâm not really surprised that those Spectres killed the witch who was supposed to be guarding Lyra and Will tbh like thatâs what happens when only ONE witch guards two teenagers and that witch falls asleep
The way that Lyra panicked when she woke up and saw her mother stroking her cheek omgÂ
Off topic but Iâve only just realized that Jopari has a fucking man-bun LMFAO OKAY
The fact that Jopari tried to get back to Will and Elaine but couldnât will always hurt me
âAnd you chose these people over your family?â - I MEAN-
âIâve thought about you every day.â - Awww
So John tells Will that he has to go to Asriel and bring him the knife, and he tells him all about the war thatâs coming and I have LITERAL chills because Iâm so ready
âAnd then we go home?â â... And then we go home.â - RIP MY HEART OUT, IT WOULD HURT LESS
âIâm not strong enoughâ - yes you are, Will! I promise you, you are! And Jopari says, âBoth of us were brought hereâ - exactly! You were brought there for a reason by fate or whatever you want to call it!
âYour duty was to be my fatherâ - WILL REALLY CAME FOR HIS DAD LIKE THAT I GUESS
âLook what youâve become without meâ - Oh my god, just when I thought I wasnât going to cry again
JOPARI HUGGING WILL, SEEING THE SOLDIER AIMING, AND THEN PUTTING HIMSELF BETWEEN THEM SO HE TOOK THE BULLET INSTEAD OF WILL ASDFGHJKL;
So in the book, Jopari is killed by a scorned witch who had once asked him to be her lover, but he had turned her down (because of Elaine and Will obviously), and she kills Jopari in front of Will and then he kills her (I think?). But here itâs just a soldier leftover from the Lee vs Magisterium fight, so... yeah. Kind of a little peeved about the change personally but whatever I guess.
âThe night is full of angels, they will guide you nowâ - AHHHHH
Also, might just be me, but maybe that line would have been slightly more impactful if the scene had taken place at night
This show really said âfuck healthy parental figuresâ I guess
Except Willâs mum, sheâs the best and if anything were to happen to her weâd all riot
SAYAN KĂTĂR FADING AWAY NOOOO I HATE SEEING DĂMONS DIE
Okay, last little gripe, but I just wanted to say that in the book, Will doesnât realize itâs his dad until literally the last second before his dad dies - like they both realize and then BAM, Jopari is killed. And while I do love the father-son reunion, I am kind of annoyed by the change because it was such a huge punch in the gut in the book that Will searches for so long for his dad, only to lose him the second he finds him.
Serafina finding Leeâs body and kissing his forehead was yet another punch in the gut, thanks Pullman/BBC/BadWolf
The fact that Will had to bury his dad :(
Also, WILL WEARING JOPARIâS JACKET OH MY GOD MY HEART
Oof that shot of his amputated fingers...
So the narration, when it started I thought it was Jopari at first, like from one of his letters... but then as it continued, I went âhang onâ, and then I said outloud âwait, is that ASRIEL?!â
DID MARISA REALLY PUT LYRA IN A FUCKING TRUNK?!? BITCH ARE YOU OKAY?!?
Will putting his hood up like his dad did just hits differently
Okay so um ASRIEL HI I WASNâT EXPECTING TO SEE YOU THIS SEASON OH MY GOD THE SCREAM I LET OUT
HIS MONOLOGUE BY THE WAY IS FUCKING ART AND A MASTERPIECE BUT I WAS TOO BUSY CRYING OVER JAMES MCAVOY TO WRITE THE WHOLE MONOLOGUE DOWN
Oh, hi Stelmaria!
It always makes me scream that this man is not only Lord Asriel now but heâs also fucking Mr Tumnus and MOTHERFUCKING BILL DENBROUGH LIKE HOW IS THIS MAN INVOLVED IN SO MANY OF MY FANDOMS?!?
ANGELS ANGELS OH MY FUCKING GOD-
âWe stand with you, Asriel Belacquaâ - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
âLet us prepare for warâ - FUUUUUUUUCK
(I was deadly serious when I said this was just me screaming and crying by the way)
Iâm still reeling over the fact that Marisa put her daughter in a fucking trunk. Like I get you canât exactly carry a drugged child about in the open but Jesus Christ, love, really?!?
Also Ruth Wilson / Marisa Coulter in a headscarf? *chef kiss*
The way that the screen went to black as she put the lid on the trunk down - SHIT OH SHIT GOOSEBUMPS
THE CREDIT SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE IT HAS FUCKING ANGELS NOW IâM-
I WASNâT EXPECTING THE POST CREDITS SCENE OH MY GOD
ROGER?! ROGER! ITâS ROGER IâM NOT OKAY-
BBC YOU CANNOT JUST DROP THAT ON US LIKE THAT FUCK-
âWhat is this place?â - IâM SCREAMING SO LOUD I CANâT HOLD IT IN
For anyone unaware, the reason Iâm screaming so loud over the post-credits scene is because in TAS, while Lyra is drugged and in a groggy sleep, she has these visions of Roger talking to her from the Land of the Dead, which then later leads to her and Will actually GOING to the Land of the Dead and... well, the rest is even HUGER spoilers but YEAH IâM NOT OKAY.
Honestly, Iâm just so happy and emotional because Iâve been waiting over a decade for a decent adaptation of not only NL but for TSK and TAS too, and weâre 2/3 there now. Just one more book/series to go... I wish we could have it now. I really hope that filming for the final one starts ASAP because if we have to wait two years just to see the conclusion to this series, I might cry.
This series is so amazing, and this season especially has been so incredible to watch. Itâs been the highlight of my week for seven weeks, and I have no idea what Iâll do with my Sundays now that itâs over. Iâve asked for the DVD for S2 for my birthday already (since it comes out 29th December and my birthday is 13th January... just saying), and words canât describe how much I do love this series. I know it sounds hollow since I say it about so many things Iâm into, but this was such a huge part of my childhood and itâs one of my favourite fantasy series of all time. Itâs truly one of the most incredible pieces of literature and now itâs making for incredible television... I love it so much.

Hi angel, here's my request!
Flo and reader have mutual friends but aren't close since both of them are always traveling, till one morning when Florian wakes up at his friends house after this party and has a massive hangover, he walks to the kitchen and finds reader baking something for the guys and after some chit chat they just click. The end of the story it's up to you, steamy or fluff I simply adore your writing, she could take care of him or something. đ€·đŸââïž
I love this request! Here you are babe, hope you love it! And happy New Yearâs Eve/New Year. Got this done just in time for the end of the year.
Florian Munteanu x Mutual Friend! Reader
The scene in front of you was something straight out of a Hollywood party scene. The night was slowly trickling into the early hours of the morning, a few stragglers littered here and there as you and your girlfriends made it back to the rented Airbnb. You passed by a large body passed out in the lawn, chuckling as you walked by at how crazy the party seemed to have gotten.Â
Youâd just recently gotten home from taking a solo six month long round the world trip. You had saved your money for two years, researched, planned and counted the days and hours until you finally set foot on the plane to your first destination. To say that the time spent abroad was something youâd not only needed, but accomplished on your own was a feat. You were able to do this on your own, and now nothing was out of the realm of possibilities for you and your future.Â
The girls had all decided that a night out on the town was needed as a welcome home celebration, especially considering youâd made it home in time for the New Year. You all had dressed to the nines, outfits, hair, makeup, everything was on point. Youâd gone out to dinner followed by hours of dancing and drinking at the newest and most exclusive nightclub in town until you decided to call it quits for the evening.Â
One of the girls boyfriend had rented out the large home as a mashup of a New Yearâs party and apparently some kind of party for somebody, youâre not exactly sure who the person is but it must be something big for them to go all out like this.Â
Following the rest of the girls into the house, soft music is playing off in the distance somewhere, empty bottles of alcohol, cups, plates, and other miscellaneous items are strewn about. You even notice a bra hanging off the banister of the stairway.Â
You all make your way into the kitchen, pouring yourselves a drink and continue the vibe set before in the evening. You notice another tall guy, this one dressed in a white tee and jeans and a chain that captures the light and makes it hard for you not to stare at him. From the look of things, he is completely plastered in the corner, using his hands like little guns and giggling like a schoolgirl and you canât help but to laugh. A few of the guys end up joining you and you all catch up, relaying tales of your time abroad. Â
A short while later people start to head to bed, or find places to sleep. Remembering the guy in the lawn from earlier. âHey, you guys do know that thereâs some big ass white boy in the front lawn right?â You ask, wanting to make sure that heâs accounted for, or at least know heâs there.Â
âWhen you say âBig Ass White Boyâ are you referring to Florian or somebody else?â your friend Lorenzo asks.Â
âDonât know a Florian, so maybe?â you reply.Â
âYou know Florian, Romanian-German guy, tall as a house, corn fed and built like a eighteen wheeler, any of that sound familiar?â he questions.
You look at him with a confused face, nothing of that making any sense to you with that description.
âHeâs Mikeâs friend, the guy who played Viktor Drago opposite him in Creed II, and he just got cast in Marvelâs Shang-Chi.â
âOh right, right, right. That guy, I havenât met him-met him. I think I was told about him in passing, or we always seem to miss one another at parties or get togetherâ you reply.Â
âI saw him earlier over in the corner, I think he was doing some gun things with his fingers or whatnot. I think I took a video, here, take a lookâ you friend Cristina says, pulling out her phone and pulling up one of her Snapchat stories. You take a look and immediately recognize the guy from earlier. You look through the stories and see some of his other hilarious drunken shenanigans and tell them that the man you mentioned earlier wasnât him.Â
âThe guy in the lawn is Masias, one of Sandro and Florianâs friends, more like brother. I think the guys are getting back at him for pulling some kind of prank. Just leave him out there, heâs too big for him to carryâ another friend, Theo, replies.Â
Sleep starts to take over and the last of the party goers decide to call it quits for the night. Those of you who are staying at the house make your way upstairs to begin your nighttime routines. On your way upstairs you see a few guys sleeping on the couch and notice Florian among one of them, his large body taking up a large portion of the couch. An idea comes to mind and you go in search of the linen closet.Â
Finding a few blankets, you grab a stack and head back downstairs to those sleeping, placing them over each of the bodies to make them comfortable. When you reach Florian, you shake out one of the larger blankets and place it over him. You must have done something to momentarily startle him from his sleep because his eyes snap open suddenly in a sleepy haze.Â
âWo bin ich? (Where am I?)â he asks in German.Â
âShh, sorry to wake you up, go back to sleep, yeah.â you whisper and nod your head, tightening the blanket around him.Â
He nods his head in agreement before he closes his eyes and settles into a more comfortable position before falling back asleep. You grab the last of the blankets and make your way outside to the lawn and place it over Masias, making sure that heâs as comfortable as comfort gets for somebody sleeping outside. Heading back inside, you finally make it to bed and settle in.
You wake up early the next morning despite only getting a few hours of sleep, your body still not use to the current timezone youâre in. You decide to get up, the cry of breakfast foods pulling you out of the warmth of your bed.Â
Making your way down to the kitchen, you rummage through the fridge and freezer until you find some food. You decide on making pancakes, eggs, hash browns, bacon, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, the entire works. You look outside the window, taking a sip of your drink and are amazed to find the now dubbed Sleeping Giant still asleep outside.Â
âWhat are you looking at?â a deep voice behind you asks, startling you into giving off a high pitched shriek, almost throwing your drink in the air.Â
You whip your head around to face the voice and have to crane your neck up to face Florian, his eyes lit up with curiosity as he looks down at you.Â
âUm, thereâs a guy who is currently sleeping outside, heâs been there since last night and Iâm just surprised to see him still out there.â
He looks past you to peek outside the window and starts to laugh. âI was wondering where they ended up putting Masiasâ he says. âI better go and get him, Iâm sure the hangover and all the pics the guys took of him is going to be worse than anything else.â
âOh donât worry, the sprinkler system will be turning on in about 5 minutes,â You reply. âBut I was planning on manually turning them on in about 3.â
He lets out a hearty laugh, his entire body shaking until his laughter starts to sound like some kind of sprinkler system. He wipes at his eyes with the back of one of his large hands and when heâs done laughing, he turns back to the window just as the sprinkler system starts to pop up from the ground and the entire lawn is sprayed with water.Â
âWell it looks like I may have been wrong about the sprinkler timing.â
Masiasâs head pops up in confusion, just as water is sprayed in his face. He gets up quickly, shouting and what you can only come to the conclusion of swearing in German before he looks around at his surroundings to see where heâs at.Â
Florain runs outside and helps Masias inside, the two of them laughing hysterically. When they return, the three of you start to plate your food and make your way to the kitchen table. The smell of the food permeates throughout the house and soon enough others join you all.Â
Florian ends up sitting next to you, multiple plates all but licked clean as the two of you get to talking. âIâm Florian Munteanu, by the wayâ he says, âI donât think I introduced myself to you earlier.â
âYou were a little busy, itâs okay. Iâm Y/N Y/L/Nâ extending your hand out to his larger one to shake it.Â
âWait, YOUâRE Y/N?â he asks, his eyes going wide in shock.
âYes. Why do you say it like that?â you question.Â
âOh, itâs, itâs just that everybody is always telling me that we would get along if we met, and every time it seems to happen it seems like we always end up missing one another somehow. â
âYeah, life somehow turns out like that, but look at us now, we finally met.â
âHonestly, last night when I saw you I thought I was imagining things, imagine my shock when it turns out I wasnât actually crazy. Iâm glad that we finally got to meet.â
âIt may have taken us some time, but we made it., it only took us what, 84 years?â You say, referencing The Titanic.
â84 years and worth the wait. Plus, itâs not at a better moment in time I say.â
âHowâs that?â you ask.Â
âItâs New Yearâs Eve Y/N, whatâs a better start to the New Year than getting the opportunity to get to know you, and I fully intend to get to know you, if thatâs okay with you?â
âI would really like that.âÂ
The two of you continue talking throughout the morning, the both of you talking about some of your favorite New Yearâs traditions, him telling you about some of the Romanian traditions, such as tossing money into water where people wash their hands, him giving a little sample of Plugusorul and Sorcova-songs that wish good luck, happiness and success for the New Year. You tell him of your own New Yearâs traditions, those from your own background and ones youâve come to make on your own, and something deep down tells you that somehow you and Florian will be making even more in the New Yearâs to come.

âž Warnings: A lot of fluff as usual.
âž Plot:
You're forced to learn how to live without your closest friend from childhood who has to go live in Germany with his parents, leaving you heartbroken. You thought YangYang was going to be by your side forever. As years have passed and you've almost started to forget about him, he suddenly appears in your life again, turning it upside down, and this time, nobody's leaving.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âž A/N: This oneshot took me over 2 months and a half to write and was written as a part of my dear @renjunniehome's song fic challenge (?)
Not really a challenge, but it's an event where diffent NCT writers write fanfics based on songs so make sure to check it here: PLAYLIST FICS MASTERLIST
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âI don't know, it's just something about ya
Got me feeling like I can't be without ya
Anytime someone mention your name
I be feeling as if I'm around yaâ
YangYang and you have always been a package deal; you were so close as children that at one point people couldnât imagine one of you without the other and honestly, you also couldnât imagine what your life would be without your best friend. There was something about him that made you feel butterflies in your stomach, even though as a child you could not identify and understand clearly what it was.
Besides that, your parents and YangYangâs were very close so you sometimes had family dinners together; that happened often, since you were neighbors and your houses were literally right next to each other. Your parents loved YangYang like their own son, maybe because he spent so much time in your house, had dinner there, and even stayed the night quite often for your sleepover parties. Of course, his parents were also very happy when you went to his house in order to spend time with him. Everyone in the neighborhood thought youâd end up marrying each other when you grow up, even if your child selves denied it with disgust. However, you couldnât deny that your face always lit up when your parents told you YangYang and his parents would be coming over for dinner. Just the mention of his name made you start jumping with excitement.
But apparently everything good had to end sooner or later. You could still remember the shock you felt when you learnt YangYang would be leaving his house which was right next to yours in order to go live and study in Germany. He explained with glossy eyes that his parents have found better work opportunities there and that this probably meant you wouldnât see each other very often. When you first heard this, you burst out crying, hugging him tightly, begging him not to go. Even though he also didnât want to go, he was just a child so he had to leave with his parents. That left you heartbroken; you tried to text him in the beginning in order to keep in touch but it was getting difficult because of the time difference, as well as the lack of personal contact. Slowly you started to get used to life without him, no matter how much you wanted him back, but you couldnât really learn to be happy without him.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âAin't no words to describe you baby
All I know is that you take me high
Can you tell that you drive me crazy?
'Cause I can't get you out my mindâ
As the years were passing and you were growing up, you started to understand what your feelings for your childhood friend meant. Before you heard the word âcrushâ, you thought you just loved to be next to YangYang because he was funny and was making you laugh. But as a teenager, you realized you still missed him, even though you had no idea what he looked like now, how much he had changed, and most of all, you felt how you havenât gotten over him at all. People your age started to date, but you werenât interested in anyone, since subconsciously you kept comparing them to your childhood friend. You never even went to dates, and you realized how childish your behavior was, but honestly, nobody seemed like your type anyways. You barely had any friends, since the overly-romanticized idea of YangYang has turned into a standard for your friendships as well. You felt as if you were going crazy because of him as you only thought of him and how you would feel if you could meet him now.
* * *
A few years have passed and you were now in university, trying to live without the thought of YangYang as you realized you were probably never going to meet him again. Now you had some amazing friends who were bringing colors into your life and sometimes distracted you from thoughts about your childhood friend.
You were currently having lunch with your friends from your class. Suddenly you saw Jaemin, one of your friends, running towards your table and finding a place to sit, as he looked as if he was excited for some reason.
"Guys, big news! Apparently we're gonna have a new guy in our class. I heard he's German. I can't wait to meet him! European peopleare so good-looking!" Jaemin said with a dreamy gaze.
âWhy would there be a German in our class?â You asked confusedly.
âI donât know, thatâs what the rumors are.â
As you heard the word âGermanâ, you suddenly thought of YangYang again, trying to stop the association in your mind before it was too late. For the rest of lunch time you were a lot more silent than usual, quietly eating your food as Haechan was telling jokes, Renjun was laughing, and Jaemin kept annoying Jeno.
The next day you had an early class and as you heard your alarm ring, you groaned softly in annoyance, turning it off and literally rolling out of bed, as you fell to the floor, hugging your blanket, together with your bunny plushie which was actually a present from YangYang.
âStop overreacting, you drama queen. Nobody has ever died from early morning classes,â your roommate and best friend, Yeji, said.
Sometimes you wondered how could she be so energetic, enthusiastic and optimistic, even early in the morning.
âYeah, I might be the first one though,â you cried out, while holding the plushie tightly, refusing to accept the reality.
âCome on, if you get up now, Iâll buy you something delicious after classes,â Yeji promised, taking your hand to help you get to your feet.
When you heard her offer, your eyes lit up.
âReally?â You were still a little skeptical about believing her, even though you wanted to.
âYes, knowing you, youâre probably just going to ask me to buy you a chocolate. Completely affordable,â Yeji chuckled, knowing she was right.
âCorrect. Make it two, though. I feel this is going to be a difficult day.â
You finally took her hand and let her help you get up from the floor. After that you quickly put your plushie back in your bed, laying its head on your pillow, as you took the blankets from the floor and put them over the plushie, wanting it to feel warm. Yeji watched your actions with a wide smile on her face.
âAww, youâre so cute. Now go get ready, or weâll gonna be late.â
âOh, how tragic that would be,â you said sarcastically, before going to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth.
* * *
When you and Yeji entered the lecture hall, you found your classmates being more energetic and chattier than usual. You also noticed your friends, who were talking to a new guy, probably the one Jaemin mentioned the day before, as you recalled.
âHonestly I was a little disappointed to find out you werenât actually German,â you heard Jaemin say and you giggled quietly.
âIf those weird comments donât scare the new guy off, Iâd be really impressed,â Yeji noted, as she found a place near the window and you sat next to her.
âI agree,â you laughed, turning around to look at the new guy once again.
He looked somehow familiar to you, but you couldnât tell why. When he noticed you looking at him he just stared at you for a couple of seconds while Jaemin and the rest of your friends were probably bothering him. You could swear youâve seen those shiny dark brown eyes somewhere else before. But as you realized you were still looking at the guy, you quickly averted your eyes, so that he wouldnât think you were some kind of a creep. You thought that maybe there was not a particular reason for his familiar vibe: maybe he just looked like somebody youâd befriend, thatâs why he looked as if you already knew him, or at least thatâs what you believed.
âI see the new guy has already caught your eye. The question is, how did he achieve that? Youâre not usually interested in others,â Yeji pointed out.
âI-Iâm not looking at him,â you denied, shaking your head. âGuys are basically a loss of time, except for my friends. But theyâre too dumb for me to date one of them. Besides, only two of them are boyfriend material, they are Jaemin and Jeno, and theyâre basically almost dating each other, even though they donât know it yet,â you explained, taking your textbook out.
As you mentioned Jeno, you saw him coming to you and you looked at him questioningly.
âWe promised to show the new guy around after this class, and then weâre going to have lunch with him. You and Yeji can also join us,â Jeno suggested and Yeji nodded.
âWeâd love to!â You smiled and Jeno smiled back, returning to his seat, next to Jaemin.
When English class ended, you and Yeji went out of the lecture hall, waiting for your friends and the new guy. They were soon here and you all started walking around the hall, as you heard Haechan talking about the variety of books in the universityâs library even though youâve never seen him actually go there, so you were wondering how he knew this information. Meanwhile you and the new guy continued looking at each other and then averting your gaze without saying anything. You realized he still hasnât introduced himself to you, but you couldnât ask him for his name, because you were shy, so you just continued walking in silence, as the ones who were talking were mainly Haechan and Renjun.
When you went to the cafeteria and found a table, you left your things, so that the guys could watch over them, and you went to buy food with Yeji.
âSeriously, whatâs going on between you and the new guy? You canât stop looking at each other. Youâve never looked at a guy like that, so you canât convince me you donât like him,â Yeji stated, demanding an answer, as she took a bowl of rice.
âHe just looks familiar, I donât know why though. Thatâs all.â
âYou know that when you meet your soulmate for the first time, you feel as if you already know each other?â Yeji asked, as you paid for your food and started walking back to the table with your best friend walking after you.
âShut up,â you hit her arm playfully; you really wanted her to stop saying things like that.
When you went back to the table, you noticed only Jaemin and Jeno were there. Jaemin was feeding Jeno, holding a spoon of rice which he put into his mouth.
âEat a lot, handsome,â Jaemin winked at Jeno who averted his head with discontent. âDo you want some kimchi?â He asked, as Jeno nodded, even though he didnât want his best friend to feed him.
âWhy are you feeding him? Can he not hold the utensils himself?â Yeji asked, as you hit her arm again.
âBe quiet, youâre ruining the romance,â you scolded her, as you continued looking at your two friends, as you sat across from them.
âWhat romance are you talking about, I just lost a bet,â Jeno groaned in disagreement with your statement.
âWas the bet letting Jaemin show his love for you freely?â You questioned him, as Jeno looked too flustered to answer.
âSomething like that,â Jaemin confirmed. âAh, Jeno, youâre such a messy eater! Here, let me wipe that off,â he said, as he wiped the rice off Jenoâs lips, using a tissue.
âCute,â you whispered, looking away as you started eating your own lunch.
âJaeminâs actions are making me want to throw up,â Yeji confessed, taking her fork and starting to eat her food in silence.
âYouâre not the only one, I feel the same way,â Jeno agreed quietly, looking at Jaemin as if he was going to kill him every second now.
A few minutes later the new guy approached your table, holding his own tray of food, setting it down and sitting next to you. Your heart skipped a beat just because of his decision to sit next to you. You didnât know why him being close to you was making you feel this special, so you tried to brush it off, but you couldnât; so during the rest of the lunch you were actually in a very good mood, even though you and the new guy still havenât talked to each other directly at all. When Haechan and Renjun joined you, you talked to them a lot, trying not to think about the stranger next to you, since you were too shy to ask for his name, and he apparently didnât want to say it to you or ask you about yours.
As you were done with lunch, you stood up from the table and took your tray in your hands, looking at the new guy as he was doing the same. When he took his own tray, though, you noticed he dropped something. You quickly bent down to get it and give it back to its owner. But before handing it to him, you took a quick look at it â it was a discount card for the food in the cafeteria. You saw his picture and you read your name, saying it out loud as you realized something.
âYang⊠Yang?â You looked up in disbelief.
He looked at you with a smile and he nodded.
âYes, YangYang is my name, not a nickname as people usually think. Sorry for not introducing myself to you earlier, I was just distracted since you seemed really familiar for some reason,â he said, as you handed him his discount card.
âUm, I⊠My name is Y/N,â you introduced yourself quietly, as you waited for his reaction.
There were two possible ways this could go: he would either recognize his own childhood best friend, or he would take your hand, as he hears your name for the first time, if he wasnât your YangYang, but some other guy with the same name. But to you, now it all made sense. The visual resemblance, his voice, his cheerful personality⊠But you still wanted to be sure it was actually him, before hugging him excitedly.
âYou⊠Bunny?â He called you by your nickname he came up with when you were younger. He thought you looked energetic and playful, just like a bunny.
You nodded, as you couldnât stop smiling.
âYou donât know how much I missed you!â
Before you could do anything, he put his tray and card down on the table as he hugged you tightly. You were a little taken aback for a couple of seconds, slowly realizing your wish has come true. You and your best friend were finally together.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âThinkin' of ya when I'm goin' to bed
When I wake up think of ya again
You are my homie, lover and friend
Exactly whyâ
As you and Yeji went back to the dorms, you didnât even have any motivation to study, because you were too busy thinking about your amazing day. You still couldnât believe this was actually him, your childhood best friend who you were meeting so many years after he left for Germany, after you had lost hope of seeing him ever again. You were hugging your plushie, as you were jumping around the room, repeating that tomorrow you were meeting YangYang after classes in a cafĂ©, where you could talk to each other and get updates on his life, even though everything seemed as if it was still the same; even YangYang havenât changed in your opinion, except for becoming more handsome now as an adult.
Yeji was smiling at you, as you told her about your long story with your childhood friend. She was sincerely happy to see you so excited and she wished everything would turn out well for you. You kept thinking about him before going to bed and even after you woke up, starting your day with a smile on your face.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âYou light me up inside
Like the 4th of July
Whenever youârearound
I always seem to smileâ
A few weeks have passed since your reunion with YangYang; now you were used to hanging out together all the time, just like before, realizing that neither of you really changed. You craved each otherâs attention and presence just the same way as when you were kids. Today you decided to visit a cafĂ© with a nice atmosphere, suitable for a cozy afternoon and long conversations. After classes were over, you said goodbye to Yeji, as she wished you to have a good time on your date, but you were quick to correct her this wasnât a date (even though you secretly wanted it to be) and went out of the classroom together with YangYang.
On the way to the cafĂ© you couldnât stop talking to each other. Your topics were never ending and it was always exciting spending time together for both of you. You couldnât stop smiling as he said funny things to you, or even when he didnât say something that entertaining; you just loved his company so much, that you enjoyed every second you spent with him. Around twenty minutes later you got to your destination and he opened the door to the cafĂ© for you, then you found a nice table near the window. You both ordered hot chocolate as you continued with your conversation.
âDo you wanna go watch a movie tomorrow? Theyâre projecting a Marvel movie,â YangYang asked as he gave you a little additional information.
You smiled, even though you honestly disliked these movies, but you only watched them so that you could spend time with YangYang. Youâve watched every single Marvel movie, since your best friend was obsessed with them for some reason.
âOf course, Iâm so excited!â
âGreat, Iâll book the movie tickets now,â YangYang said with a wide smile on his face, as he unlocked his phone and typed the websiteâs name to book the tickets.
âUm, Yangie,â you hesitantly started speaking, not knowing if you should continue your sentence.
âYeah?â He asked, not looking away from his phone.
âIâm going home this weekend, in my hometown. Do you wanna go with me?â You suggested, even though you felt a little shy to be inviting your childhood friend in your house and have the same sleepovers you used to.
âReally? That would be amazing!â Fortunately, he seemed really happy to hear your idea. âYour parents are also going to be there, right?â After you nodded, he continued speaking. âCan you tell your mom to please prepare my favorite cream cheese muffins for her special guest?â He looked at you with pleading eyes you could never say no to.
âHey, YangYang! Do you only care about food?â You scolded him, as you playfully hit his arm.
âThis is my main priority, yes.â He answered, matching your energy. âBut you take the second place, youâre the second most important thing to me other than food.â
He looked at you and for a moment you forgot how to breathe. You were looking at his eyes, getting lost again and again; it felt like you were getting out of the trance he put you on, only to fall deeper the next time you looked at him.
âAre you okay?â
His voice showed concern, but his face had a unreadable look; not worried, but also not calm. It was like he knew exactly how he made you feel.
âUh, yes, sorry, I just zoned out for a second,â you explained as you avoided his gaze. âIâm gonna call my mom later and ask her to prepare the muffins,â you informed him, as you took a sip from your hot chocolate.
âYou know I donât really care, right? I just want to be with you,â he admitted, as you coughed when you heard that. âAre you alright? First you zoned out, now you canât drink your hot chocolate⊠So my theory must be true,â he said with a content tone and you looked at him in surprise.
âWhat theory?â You asked as you continued coughing until you were okay.
âNever mind. Just be careful next time.â
You nodded as you silently took another sip, trying to avoid his eyes.
Around an hour later it was time for you to leave, so you went back to the dorms. He smiled and waved at you, and after you waved back, you finally entered the room you and Yeji shared. You closed the door as you rested your back on it, breathing loudly. Your heart was beating fast and you wanted to make sure youâve calmed down before you greet Yeji. Now you were absolutely sure you were in love with your childhood best friend and that fact made you quite nervous. You never felt that way before and you werenât even sure if he felt the same way about you. But despite your worries, you smiled widely before knowing it. You felt like you couldnât even control your emotions and it made you very confused. You slowly went to your room, then you left your bag on your chair and you took a step towards your bed and you just laid on it for a minute, staring at the ceiling, trying to stop thinking about YangYang, but it was more difficult than you expected.
âWhatâs wrong? Didnât the date with YangYang go well?â She teased you and you turned to look at her, rolling your eyes with annoyance.
âIt was nice, except it werenât a date,â you corrected her, sighing loudly. âBut why is my heart being like that?â you whispered, putting your head on your heart as you kept looking at the ceiling with concentration, as if you expected to find all the answers of your questions there.
âMaybe because you wanted it to be a date?â
You decided to ignore her, but then she spoke again.
âLook at me, the ceiling wonât talk to you like I can,â Yeji reminded you as you looked at her discontentedly.
âYes, but it also wonât make fun of me like you do.â
âLook, Iâm sorry. I just find it amazing that youâre finally interested in somebody,â she said, as she smiled excitedly.
âYou could have stopped after âsorryâ, you know?â You shot her another annoyed look and she raised her eyebrows as if to say she didnât care. âNever mind, Iâm going to take a shower.â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âAnd people ask me how
Well youâre the reason why
I'm dancing in the mirror and singing in the showerâ
As you felt the hot water running down your body, you felt a wave of calmness washing over you. Your mind kept going back to thoughts of YangYang and your incredible day with him, as well as the excitement of going home together with him. It was something you wished for so many years, just having him back with you, the two of you together in your room, playing Plants vs. Zombies or Mortal Kombat, some of your favorite PC games back at the time, when you both were around 10 years old.
Without realizing it, you started singing a random song youâve heard in school today that somehow happened to be a romantic one, matching perfectly with your good mood and your feelings for your childhood friend. Around half an hour later, you got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around your body. Then you took the hairdryer and stood in front of the mirror, drying your hair, but you felt so energetic and happy that you started dancing in front of the mirror. You were holding the hairdryer and you were moving your body randomly, keeping a smile on your face, even though that way drying your hair took much longer time than usual.
When you finally turned the hairdryer off, you noticed Yeji standing in the doorway of your room, looking at you with a wide smile. You rolled your eyes at her for the millionth time today, realizing she may have witnessed at least a part of your dancing in front of the mirror. She giggled, but you decided to act as if nothing out of the ordinary happened, as if you were always that cheerful.
âWhy are you laughing?â You asked, as you put the hairdryer back in its place.
âSomeone has a crush,â Yeji almost sang that sentence. âIâve never heard you singing in the shower and seen you dancing in front of the mirror before⊠Is it really possible that YangYang is the reason behind all that? Could he have changed your usual grumpiness into cheerfulness?â
âWhat do you mean? Iâm the same as usual,â you denied all her claims coolly, sounding credible enough, since you werenât such an inexperienced liar; you couldnât say the same for your love life though â you really lacked experience in that part, knowing that calling yourself a âdaterâ would be factually incorrect.
âYeah, okay. But if things between you really do work out, I want to be the first one youâre going to share the news with! Youâre gonna tell it to Jeno, Jaemin, Renjun and Haechan later,â Yeji stated, as you were looking at her with confusion.
âCalm down, there wonât be any news to tell,â you laughed as you quietly went back to your shared room.
But the part of you that you tried hard to suppress, really hoped you were wrong.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âAll I want, all I need is your lovin'
Baby you make me hot like an oven
Since you came you know what I've discovered
Baby I don't need me anotherâ
The next day was Friday, the day you would come back home together with YangYang, being there with him for the first time in many years. A few days ago youâve told your mother about reuniting with him and to say she was ecstatic would have been an understatement; she felt as if she was welcoming her second child who has been away for a long time, so she wanted to make sure everything was perfect for him. She even cleaned your room since you werenât there to do so and its usual state was beyond messy; definitely not the best place to show to such an important and dear guest.
You couldnât wait to go, but before that, you had classes that seemed endless to you; time seemed to be passing too slowly and for a moment you even thought about suggesting YangYang to skip school today, but your good girl reputation prevented you from doing so.
When the professor said his last words for today, concluding the lecture, you took your backpack. You had put your stuff in it a few minutes ago, while the professor was explaining something about an exam or an âextremely importantâ group project; you werenât sure, since you werenât listening after all. You took out the little mirror you kept in your bag to make sure you looked alright. You tried to comb your hair with your fingers, then you applied a new layer of your favorite pink lipstick; you took so much time with your make up today, even though you usually didnât wear a lot. When you were ready, you ran to the exit of the auditorium, as YangYang was already waiting in front of it.
âYou might need to turn Yeji down,â he said, as you raised your eyebrows questioningly. âThe group assignment Mr. Lee mentioned, groups of two are also allowed, so youâre with me.â
So this was what you missed as you were too busy putting your stuff in your backpack in order to be able to leave as early as possible. You smiled at him when you heard his words that made a warm feeling blossom in your body.
âAre we ready to go? All I need is in my backpack, so I donât need to go back to the dorms, unless you want to.â
âIâm also ready. Letâs go,â he smiled, taking your hand and leading you to the exit of the university.
As you were walking next to him, your hand in his, you felt your heart beating unusually fast; but instead of this making you feel nervous, you felt the same warm feeling spreading through your whole body and this time, you were ready to let go and have fun, without holding back anymore.
âSo we have a bus in 15 minutes,â you informed him, as you looked at your phone.
âA bus?â He asked before he stopped walking and you stopped looking at the phone and noticed an expensive black car parked in the university parking. âWhy donât we take a ride in my car?â He leaned on it, tapping the roof softly.
âThis car is yours? I canât believe it, youâve really grown up, Yangie,â you said with a disbelieving voice in order to tease him, but you still sat next to the driverâs seat in his car, as he has opened the door for you before getting on himself. âEven though Iâm a few months older than you, I still donât have my driverâs license, but Iâm working on it,â you said with a discontented tone. You were nervous about driving and when you were stressed, you couldnât do well so you were trying to get your driverâs license for quite some time now.
âYou can do it,â he encouraged you with his usual cheerful tone, holding his fist in the air for a second as a sign of encouragement, as he started the car and left the university parking.
* * *
When you were finally in front of your house, you quickly got off the car as you started jumping around with excitement. He smiled at you as he also got off and when the both of you took your backpacks from the car, you rang the bell of your house. A few seconds later your mom opened the door, welcoming you with warm hugs and her usual good mood, as well as a wide smile.
âWow, I havenât been here for such a long time,â YangYang mentioned, as he kept looking around. âWait, what is this smell? Itâs amazing!â
âOh, itâs the muffins,â she smiled again. âBy the way, Yangie, youâve grown so tall! And my little Y/N is still the same as before, she didnât really grow up a lot,â your mom teased you,
âHey, youâre shorter than me, so you arenât allowed to make fun of me!â You playfully scolded your mom, as you sighed in annoyance.
âBut you like girls shorter than you, right, YangYang?â Your mom asked your childhood best friend and you wanted the ground to swallow you up right now since you were so ashamed.
You knew she was only asking this since she shipped you and YangYang romantically ever since you two met. She was truly scared for you not to end up single, while you were living your life, rejecting every guy that tried to flirt with you, especially because they werenât YangYang. You perfectly understood your own feelings so you knew that you didnât need and didnât really want a relationship if it wasnât with him.
âActually, yeah, I really like girls like that,â YangYang smiled confidently, looking at you. âThey are adorable,â he looked away and only then you could breathe. âAnd they make me feel tall even though Iâm not,â he laughed, as your mother was looking at him with pure adoration in her eyes.
âAh, youâd be such a perfect son in law! Handsome, good mannered, with a good height and you also know a lot of languages, just like my Y/N! Iâm honestly so jealous of your future mother in law,â your mom continued to make you want to disappear and you were on the verge of just taking YangYangâs hand and leading him somewhere far away from that house.
âBelieve me, you do not need to worry about that,â YangYang said as he kept smiling at your mom.
Even though you didnât know what he meant, you really wanted to take him somewhere else, where he wouldnât be able to talk to your mom.
âDad is still at work, right? Please ask him to buy iced tea and tell us to come when dinner is ready, see you later,â without waiting for your mom to answer, you took YangYangâs hand and led him upstairs and then into your room.
He was looking around as if he was visiting a foreign place he has never been to before.
âYou changed your room colorâŠâ He said as he touched the wall. âBaby pink suited you though. Also your curtains are different. I liked the old ones with teddy bears on them, but these are fine too. And the bed⊠Itâs seems suitable for more than one person,â he kept commenting the details about your room, but this time his tone was different, and his look was honestly making you nervous. âHave you invited many guys here, Y/N? In this room, on this bed?â
His question made you choke on air; you were looking at him with shock written all over your face.
âW-why would IâŠâ
You wanted to be honest with him, but then realized that this would probably make you look so boring to him.
âItâs not your business.â You quickly answered, sitting on your chair.
âAh, my innocent Y/N⊠I guess Iâm the only guy who is not a family member that has been to your room,â he continued teasing you as you glared at him warningly.
âThatâs not true! Jaemin, Jeno, Haechan and Renjun have been here too!â You quickly denied his claims.
âYeah, but I doubt you felt something for any of them.â
You stayed silent for a few seconds before deciding to change the topic.
âDo you wanna play Plants Vs. Zombies?â You suddenly asked.
âOf course! Letâs go!â He answered enthusiastically, seating on the chair next to yours.
It was a whole miracle how you could change the atmosphere and his demeanor just by mentioning a PC game. You started playing and suddenly he was the same old YangYang you knew and loved.
âPlant a sunflower, quickly!â You said, as you were looking at your laptopâs screen.
He did as you said, waiting to get another sun so we could buy another plant.
âQuickly, the zombies are coming!â You were clapping excitedly, looking at your childhood friend play the game you used to play all the time when you were kids.
You were so happy that you got closer to him without realizing.
âYouâre making me nervous by staying so close to me,â he confessed, giggling softly.
âA-ah, s-sorry,â you quickly apologized as you moved away from him.
When you decided to take a break from the game, you offered him to watch a movie and he agreed, laying on your bed and you reluctantly laid next to him, trying not to get too close to him. You opened Netflix on your TV and the two of you took some time to choose a movie.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âNo, no all I know (know)
Only you got me feelin' so (so)
And you know that I have to have ya
And I don't plan to let you goâ
You havenât watched the movie even halfway when he pressed the pause button.
âI canât do this anymore,â he said, sighing deeply as if he had something that caused him a great amount of stress.
âDo what?â You asked him worriedly.
Was he sick? Was he bored? You thought of so many different things that you could have done which could have irritated him.
âPretend that everything between us is still the same. Pretend I donât want to kiss you right now.â
Your eyes widened with shock when you heard his confession, but before you could say anything, he continued talking.
âWeâre not kids anymore, Y/N. And I think we did change through all these years. Itâs our chemistry thatâs still the same. Tell me that youâre feeling it too,â he was talking in a husky voice which made you imagine things you thought you shouldnât.
YangYang looked at your eyes hesitatingly, then at your lips, or at least thatâs what you thought you saw him looking at, even though for you, it didnât make any sense for him to be looking there, even after hearing him say he wanted to kiss you. You felt as if that whole situation was just a dream and nothing that happened was going to affect reality in any way. But as you were busy overanalyzing things as usual, you felt a strange, yet addicting sensation. As your eyes were still open, you looked at YangYang who was kissing you. You couldnât believe that was happening, but you quickly closed your eyes, enjoying his lips on yours. Your heart was beating fast as you tried to remember this sweet feeling, savouring the taste of his lips. When he moved away, you slowly opened your eyes, looking at his with confusion, yet with trust. You were sure that whatever was going to happen, you were safe and happy with him.
âI- You⊠Uh, did you like that?â
You nervously nodded, as you were wondering what to say.
âGreat, I did too. Does that mean you like me back?â YangYang wanted to check in with you, before officially asking you the last question he wanted to ask ever since he realized who you were back in the canteen that day.
âYouâre so special to me, YangYang. I like you a lot,â you confessed, feeling a little shy, but still trying to keep his eyes on him, because you thought he deserved to know exactly how you felt about him without finding out how nervous you actually were. âBy the way, that was my first kiss and Iâm so happy it was with you,â you looked at him adoringly.
âReally? Thatâs so cute!â He exclaimed with a sweet smile. âSo youâre sure you havenât kissed anyone from your friends group?â
âActually I kissed Jaemin and Jeno on the cheek once at a party because of a dare. And on the same night Haechan and I got so drunk that we almost kissed, but our friends stopped us before we âunlock a whole another relationshipâ, as they said.â
YangYang sighed with annoyance before mustering up the courage to ask you the most important question.
âDo you want to be like⊠Uh, you know?â
You were looking at him with confusion written all over your face.
âYou sound just like Mark, heâs a friend of mine whoâs one year older than us,â you teased him, since you really found his nervousness to be cute.
âCome on, you know what Iâm trying to say,â he tried to avoid saying it out loud, but you werenât going to let him do that.
âDo I know, Yangie? How can I know if you havenât said it yet?â
âYou went from a shy girl to a smug girl in just a second,â he mumbled with discontent.
âBut youâre the same! You were teasing me earlier and now you sound like Mark Lee!â You complained.
âWho is Mark Lee?â YangYang asked even though he didnât really insist on knowing; he just wanted to postpone asking his main question for as long as possible.
âThat Mark guy I told you about! Are you even listening to me?â
âShould I be jealous of him?â He pouted as he was waiting for your answer.
âMaybe you should,â you continued provoking him in order for him to properly ask you what he wanted to.
âCome on! Arenât your four handsome guy friends enough people to be jealous of? When I see how youâre looking at Yeji, sometimes Iâm jealous of her too! I also canât stand it when Haechan looks at you as if he has so many improper thoughts. Or when Jeno and Jaemin ask you if you have eaten. Or when Renjun is smiling at you and laughing at your jokes! Ah, I hate it so much that I want to punch-â
You interrupted YangYang with a kiss.
âMy answer is yes.â
âYouâre going to be my girlfriend?â He asked, hoping you would agree.
âNo, Iâve never heard you ask that,â you crossed your arms, smiling at him playfully.
âYouâre going to be my girlfriend because I said so~,â he almost sang that sentence, as he decided to make sure you were incapable to refuse by suddenly making you fall on your bed as he trapped your body under his.
âNo, Iâm not going to do it~,â you answered in the same tone, as you tried to flip him over, so that you could be on top of him.
But when he noticed what you were trying to do, he caught your wrist and kissed your lips deeply, making you forget everything else. In that moment you relaxed under his touch feeling safer than ever. You kissed him back with the same lust as his, as your fingers threaded through his fluffy hair. You continued passionately kissing each other for a few minutes, taking very short breaks to breathe, since you both missed each otherâs lips too much to stay separated even for a few seconds that felt like an eternity for you.
But when you heard a knock on your door, YangYang quickly got off you and he sat on the bed innocently, as you followed his example. You quickly fixed his hair which was quite messy because you were running your fingers through it all the time.
âY-you can come in,â you said with a voice that was a little distorted, while you were trying to normalize your heavy breathing.
When you said that, the door opened and your dad came in.
âHi, Y/N. Hereâs the iced tea,â he said, giving you the bottle of iced tea which you contentedly took from his hands and left on the ground. âYangYang, itâs great to see you again,â he smiled and YangYang smiled back. âDinner is ready, so you can come downstairs,â your dad said and you nodded synchronously. Then he turned around and walked out the door, closing it.
YangYang got up from your bed as he gave you his hand, which you took. He kept holding your hand as you were walking down the stairs.
âI guess your parents are really going to have the best son-in-law,â YangYang said and as soon as you realized he was talking about himself, you hit his arm as you laughed.
You were finally truly happy again; you felt having YangYang by your side meant that nothing was impossible and all your dreams could come true, just like the seemingly unrealistic dream of having him back while you were longing for him all these years. It turns out your long wait was absolutely worth it and now that he was here with you again, you werenât going to let him go.

Huh... Alright, I'm doing... I think I'm doing it...
This is my very first fanfic ever... I'm still learning... This is a part 1 thing... I'm currently in the middle of a university exam period, so I couldn't finish the whole story yet, but I will as soon as I can, but I don't want to wait anymore... My English is okay-ish... It's not my native language, so there maybe some grammatical mistakes, I hope it's still readable... I tried my best... Just bear with me, I'll try to learn and improve... I'm very nervous...
Facts about the story: there is no age mentioning, Reader is around 25-26, I made Daniel younger in my head, 34-36 (single, no wife, no kids, let's respect the real BrĂŒhl family), Reader is female, I am Hungarian as well (possible Hungarian language in the future), I'm studying Russian (possible Russian language in the future), and I just started learning German, I used translater (sorry if I messed it up but, I really tried, please tell me if it's horrible), and one more thing... I have never met Daniel, nor I went to Berlin (yet, I really want to, and planning)... All of this are imagination, dreaming, and a little searching...
Warnings: none?... i think?... Apart from the horrible language uses and horrible jokes... Maybe swearing.
(Bad) Summary: a Hungarian girl goes to Berlin with a Russian friend of hers, as tourists. They always wanted to visit the city (not because Reader has a crush on the one and only Daniel BrĂŒhl, and wants to go to his tapas bar...of course). When the Reader goes back alone to the bar, Daniel is there too... The big meeting, adventures, fun, love, shitty romcom vibes ahead... (i hope the story is better than the summary...)
And now, after this awkward rambling, I present to you:
-----------------------------------
With Love from Berlin
Part 1
You couldnât believe it. Finally, after months of preparation, you and your best friend were finally here, in the heart of Germany, Berlin. It was very different from what you were used to. Coming from a small city from Hungary, this was way bigger than your imagination. All kinds of people from different cultures merged into one. Museums, cafes, bars, restaurants, you didnât even know where to begin. You took a deep breath in your hotel room. Your friend insisted on getting different rooms, in case she or you find someone to have a good time, if you know what I mean. Well, rather your friend, than you. You wanted to come here after many years, and you were finally here, so you want to experience as much of this city as you possibly could, youâre not gonna waste your time on a random (or more, glancing at your friend) man.Â
You arrived at the hotel around 1.00pm, so you decided to go get some lunch somewhere close. You were a little bit tired of the long hours on the train. Just around a corner from where you were staying there was a tapas bar. Bar Raval. Your friend wasnât really into movies that much, or actors in particular, but you knew that place, although you have never been there. You didnât think about yourself as a âfangirlâ, but you really admired the work of Daniel BrĂŒhl. You knew there was little to no chance that you could get even a tiny glance of him, but in over all: you would be happy just to say that you were in his bar. Your friend liked Spanish cuisine, so it didnât take much to convince her to eat there.Â
A Hungarian and a Russian woman walked into a Spanish restaurant in Germany, Berlin. Sounded comical. The place looked very friendly and funky. There were some people, not really a crowd. You decided to sit in the corner, with your back to the wall, so you can observe your surroundings. Your friend sits down opposite you. A waiter comes up to you:
- Willkommen! Was möchten Sie gerne? - he asked, looking between the two of you.
- Oh, sorry, we donât really speak German. - you said with quite a thick Hungarian accent, because you got nervous due the potential language barrier.
- I see, Itâs okay. We usually have all kinds of tourist here, so youâre good. What can I get for you two? - he asked with a welcoming smile.
You werenât sure what you wanted to eat, you werenât familiar with Spanish food at all, so you just trusted your friend to order something. She ordered something with pasta, and another thing with pasta. You had no idea what she just said. And some juice. She smiled at the waiter who scribbled down your order, and of he went. You looked around while you were waiting.
- Itâs nice isnât it?
- Yeah, it is. Quite bohemian. I would have guessed you would want to go to a traditional German restaurant. Why are we here? - smiled your friend knowingly.
- Well⊠You knowâŠ
- Is this the place of your man?
- What?! Shut up⊠- blushing - I just like his movies, thatâs all⊠Anyway, I just liked the pictures of this placeâŠ
- ...and himâŠ
- ...AND I wanted to check it out myself, ok?
- Ok-Ok...
You smiled at each other. You were best friends for years now, you could communicate without much of words. The waiter arrived with your plates. The food was good. In fact, more than good. In general, you prefer other cuisines, but you really liked this Spanish place. In Berlin. Odd, in the best way. After the lunch you went back to the hotel. Your friend wanted to go to a small club in the evening, so you decided to just chill throughout the afternoon.Â
The traveling took the better of you, as you didnât just not feel fresh after your nap, but you actually felt like shit. Your friend on the other hand really wanted to get going. So you assured her and yourself that itâs fine if you didnât go to a club. She was a strong woman, and the club which she picked was just a couple of blocks away, so she decided, after she made sure that it is truly okay, to leave you behind in your room. You have never been a party-animal anyway, and you really just wanted to plan for tomorrow. There were so many things you wanted to watch in the city. After a few hours of planning and searching, you eventually fall asleep on the couch.
In the morning, luckily, you felt much better, more of yourself than in the previous afternoon. You took a shower, get dressed (purple converse, dark skinny jeans, blue tank-top and a blue/black checked shirt...nothing can go wrong dressing like this, you thought), grabbed your camo, ex-military little gym bag, locked your roomâs door, and went to knock on your friendâs door. It took a few minutes, some groans, and other small noises, when she finally flung the door open. The sight was hideous.
- The hell happened to you? - you really tried not to laugh.
- Laugh, as you like⊠I had a good time. Drank more vodka that I could handle thoughâŠ
- Are you alone or
- I am⊠Calm down, I didnât get lied⊠Although I tried⊠But I didnât!!! - she said quickly after she saw the frown on your face. - But I feel very shitty⊠My hangover is killing me, I didnât give out anything yet⊠But I might throw up at any minute nowâŠ
- How can I help you? Stay with you? Bring you something from that little shop we saw yesterday?
- Some water would be nice⊠But I donât want you to see me like this⊠And I will be fine, iâm just gonna rest today⊠You can go on on your sightseeing trip.
- Are you sure? Iâm gladly staying with youâŠ
- No, no! You wanted to come so badly, I donât want to take a day away from you. I will be alright.
- You promise?
- I do. Please, just go. - she smiled at you.
- Alright. Iâll go grab you some water, and⊠I donât know, go for a walk or something. Get breakfast.
- For the mentioning of food, your friendâs face went green and particularly jumped into her bathroom.
- Iâm coming back in a minute or two! - you shouted after her, than closed her hotel roomâs door.
You went down to get some water, some bread and some crackers which would be easy on her stomach, yet she still would be able to eat something throughout the day. You knocked on her door, which opened just slightly, an arm came out to take the bag from your hand, a small, weak âХпаŃĐžĐ±ĐŸâ and just like that the door was closed again. You giggled to her door before you headed down to the street.
You honestly didnât really want to explore many things without her, so you tried to keep your excitement low. You decided to go back to that bar where you ate your lunch yesterday. You liked it a lot, and it wasnât a new place to discover, which meant that your friend wasnât missing out on anything. You went to the bar. It was still early morning, not many people were there. A few old people, some of them are couples. The younger generation (yours) was probably still sleeping. Besides, the place was more like a lunch/dinner kind of place anyway. The waiter looked up and recognised you.
- Good morning! Alone this time?
- Good morning to you too! Yes, my friend had a wild party last night, and she is standing at the gates of Hell right now.
- That sounds bad. - he laughed.
- It is, she looked scary⊠- that made him chuckle.
- So what can i do for you today?
- I would like just a cappuccino, please.
- Alright, just sit down, Iâm on it.
- Thank you!
You sat down at the exact place where you did yesterday, next to the window, with your back to the wall. You put down your bag, and looked around. With less people, the place looked cozier. You really did like it a lot. Eventually, your cappucino arrived. You thanked it, and tasted it. It was delicious. You were one of those people who liked to read next to a fresh coffee, and you always had a book around you. You took it out from your handy-dandy bag and started reading it, holding it a little up in your hands, leaned back on your chair. You were reading one of your favourite books (Pushkin - Anyegin), while sipping a good morning cappuccino, in a nice place. You just relaxed to the small sounds of the bar and sounds of the city, which infiltrated through the door and windows.
- Eine interessante Wahl von Buch am Morgen. Interessanter als eine Zeitung, das ist sicher...
No. Just...no. You were hallucinating. You felt like everything was frozen around you. From out of 2.8 millions of people (roughly), you would recognize this voice. His voice. You physically could not look up.
- Omm.. Iâm sorry, I didnât understand what you just said⊠- you said with the weakest voice and in the thickest accent ever, in your whole damn life. You hoped that if you make this man say another thing you fall back to reality.
- Oh, my bad - he giggled - I just said that it is an interesting choice of read in the morning, it sure is more interesting than a newspaper.
Shit, this was the reality.Â
You dared to look up, and your eyes met the most chocolaty eyes ever on this whole planet, but at least in the whole of Berlin. The owner of those eyes was leaning on the chair opposite you.
- Hello. Iâm the owner of this Bar, Iâm Daniel. - he offered his hand to you.
- Hi, I kno...i mean Iâm (Y/N), Iâm the costumerâŠ? - you finished with a questioning voice and all you wanted was for the ground to open, swallow you, and with that wipe you out of this universe. You shook his hand, without looking at him directly. His hands were warm and secure. After he released you, you closed your eyes, already feeling the burning sensation in your face. You heard a deep chuckle.
- Yeah, I guessed that. Youâre not from Germany and you aren't British either, arenât you?
You opened your (Y/E/C) eyes only to meet his curious ones.
- No, Iâm not. Iâm just a tourist here, Iâm from Hungary.
- Oh, Iâve been there. Itâs a lovely country. Would you mind if I sit down? - gesturing to the empty chair opposite from you.
- Yes⊠I mean no⊠- you took a deep breath - If you would like to you can sit with me. - This is just going great...
You earned another deep chuckle from the man in front of you, while he sat down.
- So⊠What are you doing here alone, in Berlin?
- Iâm not alone.
- Oh⊠Anniversary? - for a moment you thought you saw something in his eyes. Sadness?
- Not that either. I donât have anyone to celebrate such things. I came here with my friend, but she got wasted last night, and probably at the moment she is agonizing in her bathroom above the toilet.
- Hm⊠thatâs not nice. - curiosity was coming back to his face.
The two of you stayed in silence. It wasnât really uncomfortable, you were just terribly shy, and couldnât stop blushing. You even tried to hide some of your face by leaning on one of your palms, and sipping your coffee.
This is aweful. Daniel f*ing BrĂŒhl is sitting opposite me, and I canât even look at him. He must be thinking Iâm one of those fangirls who just canât keep it together before their idols. Which is true, but he shouldnât have to know thatâŠ
But he wasnât thinking that. Quite the opposite actually. You were so out of place in his bar, he had to approach you. There was something in you which made him intrigued. While you were trying to hide, which he found a little bit cute and entertaining, he tried to study you as well. There was something in you. He felt like he wanted to know your story.
- So whatâs the plan for today?

JACOBIN FICTION CONVENTION MEETING 1: La Seine no Hoshi (1975)
1. Introduction
Well, dear reader, here it is. My first ever official review. And, as promised, this is one of the pieces of Frev media that you have likely never heard of before.
So, without further ado, sit down, relax, grab drinks and snacks and allow me to tell you about an anime called âLa Seine no Hoshiâ (The Star of the Seine).
âLa Seine no Hoshiâ is a childrenâs anime series made by Studio Sunrise. It consists of 39 episodes and was originally broadcast in Japan from April 4th to December 26th of 1975.
Unlike its more famous contemporary, a manga called âRose of Versaillesâ that had begun being released in 1972 and is considered a classic to this day, âLa Seine no Hoshiâ has stayed relatively obscure both in the world of anime and among other Frev pop culture.
Personally, the only reason why I found out about its existence was the fact that I actively seek out everything Frev-related and I just happened to stumble upon the title on an anime forum several years ago.
So far, the anime has been dubbed into Italian, French, German and Korean but there is no English or even Spanish dub so, unfortunately, people who do not speak fluent Japanese or any other aforementioned language are out of luck ( if anyone decides to make a fandub of the series, call me). That being said, the series is readily available in dubs and the original version on YouTube, which is where I ended up watching it. The French dub calls the anime âLa Tulipe Noireâ (The Black Tulip), which could be an homage to the movie with the same name that takes place in the same time period.
Unfortunately, while I do speak Japanese well enough to maintain a basic conversation and interact with people in casual daily situations, Iâm far from fluent in the language so the version I watched was the French dub, seeing as I am majoring in French.
So, with all of this info in mind, letâs find out what the story is about and proceed to the actual review.
2. The Summary
(Note: Names of the characters in the French dub and the original version differ so I will use names from the former since thatâs what I watched)
The story of âLa Seine no Hoshiâ revolves around a 15-year old girl called Mathilde Pasquier - a daughter of two Parisian florists who helps her parents run their flower shop and has a generally happy life.
But things begin to change when Comte de Vaudreuil, an elderly Parisian noble to whom Mathilde delivers flowers in the second episode, takes her under his wing and starts teaching her fencing for an unknown reason and generally seems to know more about her than he lets on.
Little does Mathilde know, those fencing lessons will end up coming in handy sooner than she expected. When her parents are killed by corrupt nobles, the girl teams up with Comte de Vaudreuilâs son, François, to fight against corruption as heroes of the people, all while the revolution keeps drawing near day by day and tensions in the city are at an all time high.
This is the gist of the story, dear readers, so with that out of the way, hereâs the actual review:
3. The Story
Honestly, I kind of like the plot. It has a certain charm to it, like an old swashbuckling novel, of which Iâve read a lot as a kid.
The narrative of a âhero of the common folkâ has been a staple in literature for centuries so some might consider the premise to be unoriginal, but I personally like this narrative more than âchampion of the richâ (Looking at you, Scarlet Pimpernel) because, historically, it really was a difficult time for commoners and when times are hard people tend to need such heroes the most.
People need hope, so itâs no surprise that Mathilde and François (who already moonlights as a folk hero, The Black Tulip) become living legends thanks to their escapades.
Interestingly enough, the series also subverts a common trope of a hero seeking revenge for the death of his family. Mathilde is deeply affected by the death of her parents but she doesnât actively seek revenge. Instead, this tragedy makes the fight and the upcoming revolution a personal matter to her and motivates her to fight corruption because she is not the only person who ended up on its receiving end.
The pacing is generally pretty good but I do wish there were less filler episodes and more of the overarching story thatâs dedicated to the secret that Comte de Vaudreuil and Mathildeâs parents seem to be hiding from her and maybe it would be better if the secret in question was revealed to the audience a bit later than episode 7 or so.
However, revealing the twist early on is still an interesting narrative choice because then the main question is not what the secret itself is but rather when and how Mathilde will find out and how she will react, not to mention how it will affect the story.
That being said, even the filler episodes do drive home the point that a hero like Mathilde is needed, that nobles are generally corrupt and that something needs to change. Plus, those episodes were still enjoyable and entertaining enough for me to keep watching, which is good because usually I donât like filler episodes much and itâs pretty easy to make them too boring.
Unfortunately, the show is affected by the common trope of the characters not growing up but I donât usually mind that much. It also has the clichĂ© of heroes being unrecognizable in costumes and masks, but thatâs a bit of a staple in the superhero stories even today so itâs not that bothersome.
4. The Characters
It was admittedly pretty rare for a childrenâs show to have characters who were fleshed out enough to seem realistic and flawed, but I think this series gives its characters more development than most shows for kids did at the time.
I especially like Mathilde as a character. Sure, at first glance she seems like a typical Nice Pretty Ordinary Girl âąïž but that was a part of the appeal for me.
I am a strong believer in that a character does not need to be a blank slate or a troubled jerk to be interesting and Mathilde is neither of the above. She is essentially an ordinary girl with her own life, family, friends, personality and dreams and, unfortunately, all of that is taken away from her when her parents are killed.
Her initial reluctance to participate in the revolution is also pretty realistic as she is still trying to live her own life in peace and she made a promise to her parents to stay safe so thereâs that too.
I really like the fact that the show did not give her magic powers and that she was not immediately good at fencing. François does remark that her fencing is not bad for a beginner but in those same episodes she is clearly shown making mistakes and it takes her time to upgrade from essentially Françoisâs assistant in the heroic shenanigans to a teammate he can rely on and sees as an equal. Heck, later thereâs a moment when Mathilde saves François, which is a nice tidbit of her development.
Mathilde also doesnât have any romantic subplots, which is really rare for a female lead.
She has a childhood friend, Florent, but the two are not close romantically and they even begin to drift apart somewhat once Florent becomes invested in the revolution. François de Vaudreuil does not qualify for a love interest either - his father does take Mathilde in and adopts her after her parents are killed so François is more of an older brother than anything else.
Now, Iâm not saying that romance is necessarily a bad thing but I do think that not having them is refreshing than shoehorning a romance into a story thatâs not even about it. Plus most kids donât care that much for romance to begin with so Iâd say that the show only benefits from the creative decision of not setting Mathilde up with anyone.
Another interesting narrative choice Iâd like to point out is the nearly complete absence of historical characters, like the revolutionaries. They do not make an appearance at all, save for Saint-Justâs cameo in one of the last episodes and, fortunately, he doesnât get demonized. Instead, the revolutionary ideas are represented by Florent, who even joins the Jacobin Club during the story and is the one who tries to get Mathilde to become a revolutionary. Other real people, like young Napoleon and Mozart, do appear but they are also cameo characters, which does not count.
Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI are exceptions to the rule.
(Spoiler alert!)
Marie-Antoinette is portrayed as kind of spoiled and out of touch. Her spending habits get touched on too but she is not a malicious person at heart. She is simply flawed. She becomes especially important to the story later on when Mathilde finds out the secret that has been hidden from her for her entire life.
As it turns out, Marie- Antoinette, the same queen Mathilde hated so much, is the girlâs older half-sister and Mathilde is an illegitimate daughter of the Austrian king and an opera singer, given to a childless couple of florists to be raised in secret so that her identity can be protected.
The way Marie-Antoinette and Mathilde are related and their further interactions end up providing an interesting inner conflict for Mathilde as now she needs to reconcile this relationship with her sister and her hatred for the corruption filling Versailles.
The characters are not actively glorified or demonized for the most part and each side has a fair share of sympathetic characters but the anime doesnât shy away from showing the dark sides of the revolution either, unlike some other shows that tackle history (*cough* Libertyâs Kids comes to mind *cough*).
All in all, pretty interesting characters and the way they develop is quite realistic too, even if they couldâve been more fleshed out in my opinion.
5. The Voice Acting
Pretty solid. No real complaints here. Iâd say that the dub actors did a good job.
6. The Setting
I really like the pastel and simple color scheme of Paris and its contrast with the brighter palette of Versailles. It really drives home the contrast between these two worlds.
The character designs are pretty realistic, simple and pleasant to watch. No eyesores like neon colors and overly cutesy anime girls with giant tiddies here and thatâs a big plus in my book.
7. The Conclusion
Like I said, the show is not available in English and those who are able to watch it might find it a bit clichĂ© but, while itâs definitely not perfect. I actually quite like it for its interesting concept, fairly realistic characters and a complex view of the French Revolution. I can definitely recommend this show, if only to see what itâs all about.
Some people might find this show too childish and idealistic, but Iâm not one of them.
Iâm almost 21 but I still enjoy cartoons and Iâm fairly idealistic because cynicism and nihilism do not equal maturity and, if not for the âsillyâ idealism, Frev itself wouldnât happen so I think shows like that are necessary too, even if itâs just for escapism.
If youâre interested and want to check it out, more power to you.
Anyway, thank you for attending the first ever official meeting of the Jacobin Fiction Convention. Second meeting is coming soon so stay tuned for updates.
Have a good day, Citizens! I love you!

The English Sandwich or La Fayette in Prussia 1785
Sooo, here is something that I wanted to write about for so long. In Prussia, King Fredrick II (better known as Frederick the Great) had begun holding annual reviews of his troops. This reviews took place in late summer and autumn and consisted of parades and mock battles. They soon became a staple event in Europe and many foreign dignitaries and high-ranking officers travelled to Prussia just to witness these review ⊠and in 1785 one of these officers was our dear Marquis - but I let him tell the tale. He wrote George Washington a letter on July 14, 1785:
Before I leave the borders of france, I wish once more to Remind you of your absent friend, and to let You Hear that I am well and just Begining my German travelsâI Have Been lately Visiting Some french towns where I Spoke grat deal about American trade (âŠ) Now I am on my way to the deux ponts where Resides our friend the future elector of Baviera, to Cassel where I will See Again the Hessian Regiments, to Berlin where I am told lord Cornwallis is also goingâfrom there I will wait on the King of prussia on His Grand Maneuvres in SilesiaâVisit SaxonyâSee the austrian Camps in Bohemiaâpay my Respects to the Emperor at ViennaâReturn to Berlin, where grand Maneuvres are to take place at the end of Septemberâand after I Have on My Way examined all the fields of Battle, I will Return through Holland and Be again in paris By the Middle of October
Fancy plans if I may say so. Considering that travelling was way more difficult, dangerous, expensive and uncommon in the 18th century than it is today, that is quite a roundtrip. The more important part though is that La Fayette thinks he might meet Lord Cornwallis - the same Cornwallis that La Fayette helped to defeat fair and square at the battle of Yorktown ⊠But we are getting ahead of ourselves - because La Fayette really enjoyed his travels and he met quite a few interesting people on the way. He wrote to Washington back in Paris on February 6, 1786:
My summer has been devoted to princes, soldiers and post Horsesâand while I Have Been Rambling through Cassel, Brunswick, Berlin, Breslaw, Vienna, prague dresden, potsdam Again and Berlin, no opportunity offered that I could trust, nor even any that I could Hear ofâsince I am returned Home, no Packet Has Sailed, and this day for the first time, I can Safely write By a Packet Boat (âŠ) Althoâ my former letters Have Given You an Account of My journey, I must repeat to you, my dear General, that at Cassel I saw our Hessian friends, old Knip Among them, I told them they were very fine Fellowsâthey Returned thanks and ComplimentsâAncient foes ever meet with pleasure, which However, I should think must be greater on the side that fought a successfull cause
The aforementioned âold Knipâ was the Lieutenant-General Baron Wilhelm von Knyphausen, commander of Hessian troops in America during the Revolution. He was the veteran of the infamous Battle of Trenton and the Battle of Brandywine, the Battle that La Fayette himself was wounded at, and many more battles. - Oh, and yes, I think La Fayette enjoyed their meeting far more than the Baron did.
La Fayette continues describing his stay at Brunswick and Berlin before he talks about his visit to Silesia:
(âŠ) I went to Silesia where He [Fredrick the Great] Reviewed an army of 31 Bataillons, and 75 squadrons, Making in all thirty thousand men, seven thousand five hundred of whom were on Horse Backâfor eight days I made dinners of three Hours with Him, when the Conversation was pretty much Confined at first to the duke of York the King and myself, and then to two or three moreâ(âŠ) lord Cornwallis being there, He took Care to invite Him at table to a seat By me, Having the British Kingâs son on the other side, and to Make thousand questions on American
We have a few things to unpack here. First of all, as it was expected, Cornwallis was in attendance. So far so unspectacular. But Fredrick, the Duke of York, second son of George III of Great Britain (and definitely one of his favourite children) was also present. He had departed England for Hannover to continue his military education on the mainland. He travelled to Prussia for the Manoeuvres and was the one who introduced Lord Cornwallis to Frederick the Great.
I really have to applaud Fredrick the Great for his attitude here. Placing the Duke of York, La Fayette and Lord Cornwallis all beside each other for dinner (and a dinner in the 18th century could and would easily last a few hours) and then stir the conversation towards America? That is certainly one way of handling things. Where La Fayette remarked that Frederick the Great had been âMost peculiarly Kindâ to him, Cornwallis was less enthusiastic. He wrote to Lieutenant-Colonel Ross on October 5, 1785:
My reception in Silesia was not flattering; there was a most market preference for La Fayette; whether it proceeded from the King's knowing more of France, and liking better to talk about it, I know not. (âŠ) I shall not quit Germany with much regret.
Cornwallis was really not feeling it. In their letters, La Fayette and Cornwallis both go on and describe the Prussian army in great detail. In short La Fayette was impressed but Cornwallis less so. He even called some of the manoeuvres and tactics âridiculesâ at one point. La Fayette also further writes about the continuation of his travels but that is all really less interesting. Before I close this post, there is one last thing I wanted to show you. Cornwallis assessment Duke of York and La Fayetteâs assessment of Frederick the Great. Both men are definitely ⊠opinionated.
Cornwallis writes about the Duke of York:
In the first place, the Royal Person [the Duke of York] whom I saw first does not give much hopes, further than a great deal of good nature and a very good heart. His military ideas are those of a wild boy of the Guards, the uniforms and promotions of that corps, about which He is vehement to excess. One cannot, however, help loving him. There is no maintien â no distance â any impudent blackguard may be as familiar as he pleases. There is no chance of any good coming but by his being kept abroad, and of the English being kept from him.
I have read this letter so often now, and I still can not decide whether the statement is quite harsh or actually rather adorable. Nevertheless, after all that I have read about Frederick, this statement is rather accurate. Still, as someone who is quite taken with the Duke of York, I have mixed feelings in regard to this statement. But enough about that. Let us see what La Fayette writes about Frederick the Great.
I went to Make my Bow to the King, and notwisdanding what I Had Heard of Him, could not Help Being struck By that dress and Appearance of an old, Broken, dirty Corporal, coverd all over with Spanish snuff, with His Head almost leaning on one shoulder, and fingers quite distorted By the Gout. But what surprised me much more is the fire and some times the softeness of the most Beautifull Eyes I ever saw, which give as charming an expression to His phisiognomy as He Can take a Rough and threatening one at the Head of His troops (âŠ) which gave me the opportunity to Hear Him throughout, and to admire the Vivacity of His wit, the endearing charms of His adress and politness, so far that I did Conceive people could forget what a tyrannic, Hard Hearted, and selfish Man He is (âŠ)
Honestly, after reading the letter for the first time, I did not saw the second part coming - but I have to admit that it sounds very much like La Fayette.
