I like both the dynamics of Shuichi x Kokichi and the dynamics of Kaito x Kokichi, but with regard to Kaito and Kokichi, I can never bring myself not to think that Kokichi was REALLY afraid of Kaito, and Kaito REALLY gave him a reason to be afraid of him

This is the stupidest, most low effort art project I’ve done in like. My entire life. But this came to me in a vision, and I had to draw this or else I’d explode. (It may be slightly OOC, but in my defense, I haven’t played v3 in a long ass time, so…)

My favorite thing about Oumota is that it’s that one trope of “guy who hates everyone except love interest” but. The opposite. “Guy who loves everyone except his love interest.” Perfect for a dumbass enemies to lovers AU.

What makes it better, is that Kaito literally has two other potential love interests who, not only genuinely like him and treat him as such, but are like. Normal ass people. Yet his heart goes: “I want that sick freak over there.” LITERALLY hilarious.

(I might color this later, but I’ve already put too much effort into something that was supposed to be quick and stupid.)

My piece for the @akeshuakeauzine!

The Danganronpa V3 AU that's been silently brewing in my head for a long while already. A bit of info on the AU (and Akiren's design) under the cut.

Spoilers for NDRV3!

Akiren is the Ultimate Leader who is trying his best to unite the group together, while Akechi poses as the Ultimate Detective but gets quickly revealed as the Ultimate Assassin.

The storyline starts with Kasumi as the main character, so the first trial ends with her execution and the subsequent shift to Sumire as the main character. Akiren quickly befriends her and most of the cast in general, running himself ragged with trying to provide support and stop others from making fatal mistakes. Fails, obviously.

Akechi is cordial at first, but during the first trial turns out to be much more ruthless than he appeared. After being exposed for lying about his talent he drops most of his pretending and keeps to himself, pushing away Akiren and Sumire's attempts at trying to understand him. He is quick to realise the killing game they're trapped in is a TV show, but due to his lack of trust in anyone he follows the same path as Ouma in the original game. He becomes antagonistic and arranges a murder to try and crush the killing game later.

Akechi and Akiren's story ends the same way Ouma and Momota's does in Chapter 5: with them unexpectedly uniting in secret to defy the Game, Akechi sacrificing himself to keep Akiren alive, and Akiren pretending to be him during the trial, but refusing to let his friends die at the very end, dying himself instead.

And they wake up because it was a Virtual Reality. Bc I'm too soft-hearted. I can't deal with it. Sorry <3

But it's also important to the backstory on how Akechi joined the show: Akechi was a new TV idol under Shido's company, completely manufactured to eventually promote Danganronpa by joining a new season. He agrees on condition that he will play the role of the mastermind, so that he could retain his original memories and use it to expose and ruin the series and the entire studio with it. Shido agrees, but when the time comes Akechi's memories get wiped and he finds himself as just one of the many participants. The real mastermind is Mishima. Bc I think it's very amusing and ironic, and he fits the role of a fanboy perfectly. + Whatever is going on between Mishima and Akechi in this AU bc of that is hilarious to me.

shout out to oumota you guys! i think about them in the exisal hangar literally every day... the knowledge that this is the last time either of them will ever get to be their true self in front of anybody... kaito's humanity dies with ouma. whatever happens with that he's handling it as more of a martyr than a man... ouma putting his full faith in someone for the first time because he has no other choice... but a part of him is privately relieved that it IS momota. despite everything momota was challenging him until the end. didn't give up on him like everyone else. and now kaito is going to make the ultimate sacrifice for ouma's plan to work: not of his life, but of his integrity.

i know in my heart that kaito broke down in there. really and truly, maybe the first time he ever properly cried and was just SEEN for it. like i don't care if they kissed, i care if kaito started BAWLING and admitting he wanted more than anything not to die and not to kill ouma and ouma was too weak to do anything other than hold kaito's head against his chest. they could afford it was the thing. no cameras. no peering eyes. just one moment of solace, just the two of them, for the last time ever.

and postgame. where they're the only people who truly understand each other. shuichi has never understood either of them. maki isn't even trying really. the others might have good intentions but they couldn't possibly even DREAM of what happened in there. kaito looks at ouma and he knows ouma was the only person who has ever SEEN him. really seen him. guards lowered facade gone. just them in the dim lighting with the knowledge it was all going to be over soon.

and kaito doesn't give up on ouma. not once. he still chases him. he insists i'm not going to let it happen again. you're not going to be alone anymore. not when i'm here. direct opposition to what shuichi said. you will always be alone/you will ALWAYS have me in your corner. kaito will not let anybody talk shit about kokichi (beyond stating the obvious fact that he's an asshole but lol, even then kaito's like "i'm the only one who gets to call him that..." HFLDKSJFKLSDJF) because he KNOWS what kokichi has sacrificed.

it's so vital to me. kaito doesn't take kokichi on as his sidekick. their relationship isn't like that. they are PARTNERS. kokichi tells shuichi he doesn't want to work with him anymore because he doesn't need to. like he just doesn't need shuichi when he already has someone who he knows would kill and die for him. plus kaito is a shockingly good liar....... the tactics... smiles.

i love oumota in aus and all but man. ingame and postgame dude. the diseases.

lately I've been listening to death cup by mom jeans on repeat and I can NOT stop thinking about how it's so oumota coded so I'm gonna explain WHY its oumota coded —

"I think it's 'bout time that I warned you, I might cry in front of you." : there was no way kokichi wasn't horrified to die. yeah, maybe it was easy for him to run away from that dreadful fact, but imagine how he felt lying on the hydraulic press, knowing the inevitable was just moments away? And all kaito could do was watch it happen.

"I didn't want you to feel like it was all your fault." : okay, so we should all know by now that kokichi, deep down, was an empathetic and caring person. yeah, he made kaito kill him, but im sure he felt guilty for making him do that, not wanting to burden him with the fact that he had to murder someone.

"but that doesn't mean that I wanted you to feel nothing at all." : kokichi didn't want anyone to grieve over his death, he wanted everyone to hate him and that was PART of the reason why, he didn't want to be missed and mourned for. but there was probably a part of him that wanted kaito to feel something. to feel loss, grief. to mourn for him.

"please, tell me how the fuck I'm supposed to deal with losing you." : kaito finally started understanding kokichi, something he wanted probably the whole game, just for kaito to have to kill him. this guy has MAJOR white knight syndrome, so knowing he wasn't able to help kokichi and truly get to know him better most likely felt like a literal stab in the heart ☹️

"so what's the point of talking if you're not changing your mind?" : kaito trying his hardest to convince kokichi that there was another way to end the killing game without ending his LIFE, but kokichi being the stubborn idiot he is, shut him up immediately and they continued to go through with the plan, as much as kaito begged him to change his mind.

Full thoughts on Oumasai? You mentioned them being terrible exes in your heart in one of your reblog post tags.

Generally, my brain has a few working settings for them: Fluffy, Angsty (but still sorta sweet), Angsty (as in the best metaphor for this is two airplanes crashing into eachother), "They exist but like the plot is more important than them and they have other stuff to deal with" and "Shuichi gets stuck in terrible situations with only Kokichi and they somehow make it work even though they've gotten extremely close to all the previous options in this list except the fluffy one and have encountered death multiple times". Btw, an AO3 author has fics where they have this mutual rivalry where they both hate eachother in their Oumota fics and its so funny that it deserves to be a runner-up on this list even though I don't have it in my own AUs. Oh, and Phantom Thief AUs are fun as well, though I'm not sure *how* canon they are cause in the game Shuichi constantly goes between liking his work and respecting his uncle, and hating his job and the pain it causes him.

They're like the one pairing I can't quite pin down as to what I'd like it to be. In my head, they're happy together, but also they hate eachother and are really only in the same spaces cause of their mutual friends, but they're also constantly up to shenangians with eachother and enjoy the other's company. It's a pairing that's really great to see in a positive portrayal when done properly, but is also really great to see in a negative portrayal when done properly. Maybe Shuichi feels sympathy for Kokichi after he solves "the puzzle", maybe he just moves onto the next one and doesn't even give him another look. Maybe Kokichi hates him after seeing him give sympathy to a literal assassin, just because his friend said so, but not a liar, even though as a detective, he should have seen firsthand how much damage murderers cause.

Maybe this is too far into fandom territory, and based on canon, and Shuichi doesn't really like investigating stuff all that much if his life doesn't depend on it, and they're getting nowhere because he's just gonna take stuff at facial value while Kokichi facepalms on the inside.

I also made an AU that's kinda a study on their opposing character traits and ideologies but I'll send that in a separate ask since its mostly off-topic.

Anyway, I really wanna know your full thoughts on this subject cause there's so much room for exploration of both of their characters through this dynamic, whether they like eachother or not.

I definitely need to tag this so it can be filtered, but it's also me talking about how I do not like a lot of this ship, and how I view them as an inherently toxic duo, so uh, check under the cut at your own peril

Oh boy, anyone who knows my blog knows I do not care for this ship, I am vocal about this but I also try to be polite. If it weren't for the fact I'm a sucker for Kokichi being cute it would basically never be on my blog. I do not think they work well in a relationship and I feel most of the time their personalities get stripped down to force it to work. I cannot stand fluff of the two outside of going "cute picture of kokichi smiling go brrr and also shuichi is there i guess"

However, I find the idea of them being a sort of "wrong person right time" to be interesting if done well. They're a trauma bond waiting to happen honestly. I feel like neither of them really see the other as like, a real person? More on Shuichi's end then Kokichi but definitely still somewhat on Kokichi's.

Shuichi sees Kokichi as a mystery, a nuisance, a confusion, kokichi's well being is second to the mystery, kokichi is someone to be stopped or placated, not a person, but like he says in canon, "the embodiment of a lie." Even when he gets closer to Kokichi in free time events or love across the universe, there's this exasperation. He's drawn to the intrigue, he's not drawn to Kokichi as a person. Kokichi is a natural phenomenon, like a tornado, inevitable, destructive, and intriguing, but not a person.

Meanwhile Kokichi only really takes an interest in Shuichi for all the things Shuichi doesn't want to be. The logical detective, the sherlock to his moriarty, someone he can wind up like a little toy robot and then watch go. He enjoys Shuichi's company, but he's not really coming down to meet Shuichi on equal ground y'know? He's still placing himself above Shuichi as the one tugging strings and fixing things to his liking. Kokichi wants the chase, but the chase doesn't really require actually opening up to Shuichi or treating him well.

or for a tldr;

This is absolutely not a mindset or dynamic for a functional relationship

So I find anything that doesn't to some degree acknowledge that fact to be bland and often ooc. These two cannot have a standard fluffy dynamic to me from where they are in canon, and attempts to do so that haven't earned it often draw an eye roll from me.

However, the dynamic as bitter exes? Absolutely perfect, the crash and burn from this must be spectacular. Shuichi goes a step too far in figuring out the mystery, Kokichi ignores Shuichi's opinions one too many times, Shuichi snitches on Kokichi to someone, Kokichi gets frustrated when Shuichi tries to step out of the bounds of the game in his mind...

Aka It's fucking imploding, and you just KNOW they'd be absolutely catty bitter exes, they're cyberstalking the other, Kokichi because he thinks its funny and he's bad at letting go, and Shuichi because he's also bad at letting go but he's pretending its to keep an eye on Kokichi and make sure he's not doing something messed up. Shuichi refusing to ever use the connections Kokichi brought him in his detective work even if it makes things more perilous or risky out of pride but does make sure Kokichi knows he's not using them.

Just, absolute disaster of a breakup, I am sitting with popcorn watching the fireworks, there's so many places you could take that and they're all interesting. I find embracing this toxicity and playing into them as a bad match who only tries to drag the other down, even unintentionally, who happened to meet at the right time to get attached to be very interesting.

Maybe they're forced to work together for a case because an innocent life is at stake and Shuichi has to swallow his pride. Maybe they keep rebounding off each other unable to resist the allure of easy drunk hatesnogging. Maybe Kokichi genuinely gets hurt and the only person around he knows well enough to be able to get some help with is Shuichi. Maybe Kokichi crashes Shuichi's wedding ten years later. Maybe Kokichi gets caught and imprisoned and Shuichi is the only detective willing to talk to him as Kokichi taunts him for being so predictable and being a lapdog who found a new owner. Maybe Shuichi starts dating again and Kokichi tries to homewreck by suddenly springing back into his life. Maybe they have healthy communication about their issu- HA maybe not that one. (this is a joke that could also be interesting)

Stories where they both have an ideology they want to impose on the other, Kokichi cannot be made to be good in the way Shuichi perceives as good without destroying everything that is Kokichi but also Shuichi cannot be made to be good in the way Kokichi perceives as good without destroying everything that Shuichi is. However neither would ever let themselves back down and just accept their differences, because that too would be a loss.

Unstoppable force meets Immovable object until they inevitably split apart messily with claw marks dug into the other. Consumption hiding as understanding on both sides. They bring out the worst in each other, Kokichi brings out Shuichi's catty prideful side while Shuichi brings out Kokichi's more controlling and manipulative side.

There is no respect, no true consideration of another persons needs and wants, only a game with one potential winner. At least, that's my own reading of the two and a potential relationship. So yeah, I basically see them as terrible exes. Neither can be what the other needs, and neither honestly really even wants to be what the other needs in the first place. No teamwork, only competition.

Richie from Project Maneater (which I'm writing rn!) is a good boy. Well, he starts off being a bastard. You know, that kind of boyfriend women complain about? Sexist, and unaware of it? But I have a Plan and I will knock him several pegs and make him drink the respect women juice. And maybe peg him too.

Dan Lewis from that one specific fic series on AO3 named 'drawn into something'. It's OT4 and he's autistic-coded there and I really like his characterization there and I think about it A LOT. I wish more fic authors adopt that characterization. A man could dream.

I see artists doing little showcasings of what they've accomplished creatively in the last year, decided that looks fun, and decided I'd do for myself an little inventory of what I've written in the last year as well, based on archive posts and what I can recall (I specify 'what I can recall', because I was not keeping track of when I did or did not update my main fanfic "Video Game Cruelty Potential" so...guestimates for that fic! I have 36 chapters, I can probably guess it was updated at least every other month) ~ So! For 2023: January: Did a fan-fanfic for my friend Lex called "The Other Rooms" where I explored off-scene implications of his cool-ass fic Room No.5 February: Created an alternate version of VGCP called "VGCP: Characters at their best" where I tried to explore some of the chars in the same setting being more well adjusted. I haven't gotten very far in it, but I am determined to get back to it this year! Also probably updated VGCP March: Did two short Kaito stories, an Oumota called "Playing with Phobias" where Kokichi messes with Kaito and a Saimota called "Luminary Hero of the Track Field" where Shuichi worries over Kaito's enthusiasm to sports while sick. April: Started what was MEANT to be a multi-chaptered Homestuck!V3 Kaito fic called "The Devotion of the Luminary of Skaia", but I haven't gone back yet to figure out what happens next yet. Thinking about it now, I think I was to make it a three chapter fic, but I just need to save some space to go back and outline it someday. VGCP? Maybe? May: A short Oumota piece called "Carnation: Please Handle Gently" that I got some awesome art commissioned for by the incredibly talented Ere. This short story inspired me so much that I'm actually basing a new original novel on the same concept~

June: I (believe) this was the month I finished Kaiden! An omegaverse original story I was writing and posting to Kindlevella. I am super proud of finishing that piece, and while I want to go back and create a more refined second draft before selling it as an Amazon book, I still LOVE this version as well. Very proud~ And VGCP!

July: Two Oumota short stories, "Touring Mortality" and "Execution Failed". Touring Mortality was especially fun to write, though I was amazed at the positive feedback Execution Failed got. It was very uplifting XD This was also the month I (re)started my original story "Pearls and Shackles". Also probably VGCP August: More Pearls and Shackles, more VGCP. September: Pearls and Shackles! Probably more VGCP! Can't remember! October: Can you guess? PEARLS AND SHACKLES! VIDEO GAME CRUELTY POTENTIAL!! November: This was a purely Pearls and Shackles month, and that was because I dedicated NANO (National Novel Writing Month) to finishing it. AND I DID! It super needs a second draft, its not ready to show off, but it EXISTS! So hell yeah!

December: A funny short V3 story called "Soulmate Goose of Enforcement!" I had a lot of fun collaborating with this one with Lex, and am hoping to do a chapter 2 with another great writer added to the mix too, Andromebaa. I also started the first two chapters of a new novel manuscript, a Hanahaki story about a pair of lesbians struggling with love in their own ways, but both trying their best! And, also, I updated "Video Game Cruelty Potential"

Did I overestimate how often I updated VGCP this year? Underestimate? I have no idea, that fic is almost 300,000 words long by this point, let's call an update every other month a generous average of how often I add to it. Other then VGCP, I did 8 Short Fanfics, finished a book, started and finished another book, and started a third book. And I'm not counting stories I had to write for my school year. Just ones I did out of the passion in my damn heart.

So, yeah! I'm pretty proud of this year, it was a good one. I hope anyone reading this had just as good a year! Writers, steal this idea, go looking back the year and brag about what you accomplished! You deserve it!
