wait off topic if I change Cinder's semblance for my rwby canon-adjacent au.... would this be controversial editing to warn people that the tags are novel length but that i love them and also @graythegreyt pls read them when u have a chance
#wick lore#i have asked myself this question with almost every character but for cinder i was thinking abt her dustweave (?) clothing#dustweave. dust infused. something like that#her v1 outfit that has the design on the sleeves that lights up when she sends out fire. that's her using fire dust that's in the cloth#but as far as i know this is a detail that literally never comes up again like we never see anyone else with clothing like this#so i asked myself. what if that was her semblance instead. that she had the ability to sew dust into cloth#how hard would it be for the girl modelled after cinderella to know that her semblance required her to do domestic labor to be used#thus explaining why it doesn't show up in later volumes because once she gets the maiden powers she thinks she doesn't need it#idk i think making her semblance be 'she can heat stuff up' and thus making her semblance indistinguishable from maiden powers#for the entirety of the series. is a bit of a waste. bc semblances say a lot about characters right#i know there's a point to be made about like. it manifested as that at that time because cinder has always been angry etc etc#but wouldn't it hurt from a different narrative angle. to have her semblance be dustweaving. when she doesn't have any money#no money to buy dust with but a semblance that makes her a skilled and incredibly rare craftsperson but can she bear to sell her skills#when they've been used against her for so long? when all she's known is hard work and grit and sweat? when it's probably dangerous?#anyway i think im about to hit the limit for tags but. lmfao. the possibilities!!! also the association between handsewing and the HOME!#something she's always wanted but never had. a safe place to sit by a fire that she doesn't have to tend and do her work...#also like the possible tension with mercury bc she's wishing her semblance was more offensive + merc's like BE GRATEFUL YOU HAVE ONE???#i headcanon that mercury has a semblance though. that he has silver eyes and his dad took those from him by making him hate the world#...anyway#goodnight

One headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart
Sorry this one took so long, anon; this isn't a ship I really ever thought much about (funnily enough, I do ship Emerald with my OC, who is Pyrrha's little sister lol), so it took some figuring to work out how things would go in my head. But in return I gave you an extra long one after the cut, so I hope you like it!
Emerald begins dating Pyrrha when she's posing as a student to infiltrate Beacon, but she's still too deep in Cinder's thrall to defy her. Even though she doesn't really want to hurt anyone — and actively wants to not hurt Pyrrha — she follows the plan and tricks Pyrrha into killing Penny as the catalyst for the attack on Beacon.
Emerald doesn't understand how psychologically damaging this will be to Pyrrha, though. She knows Pyrrha won't like it, but never expects it will break something in her like that — after all, Emerald doesn't like killing either, certainly not the way Cinder does, but it never affected her like that. When she sees Pyrrha's reaction after killing Penny however, she begins to seriously regret what she's done.
She decides she'll make it up to Pyrrha somehow, so she tries to stick close to her during the battle, but of course she loses her when Pyrrha follows Ozpin into the tower. Receiving Cinder's report of success brings her nearby however, so Emerald is there to see Pyrrha come out of the tower… and then go back in. This wasn't part of the plan, and she knows it's bad… very, very bad.
Emerald follows, but can't reach the lift before Pyrrha is taking it up to confront Cinder. She has to climb after (which is much faster for an aura-enhanced person, granted), arriving just in time to see Cinder gloating to a defeated Pyrrha. Emerald sees Cinder draw her arrow, and feels her heart freeze.
She can't let this happen. Not like this. She has to think fast; how can she save Pyrrha when Pyrrha doesn't know what she's doing and there's no way and no time to tell her without ruining the attempt? She uses her Semblance on Cinder to make her see Pyrrha sway on her knees.
Cinder adjusts her aim and looses her arrow; it slams into Pyrrha's shoulder and spins her to the ground, but in Cinder's eyes it pierces her heart. She walks over and flash-burns the air above Pyrrha, thinking she's disintegrated her opponent. Emerald didn't account for Ruby — how could she? — but her arrival is timely; she sees Cinder launch her arrow, sees it strike Pyrrha and send her unmoving to the ground, sees Cinder step over and extend her hand to do… something. She doesn't know if Pyrrha is alive or not, but her desire to protect her friend is strong, strong enough to trigger her silver eyes.
The flash blinds Emerald. When her vision clears she sees that Cinder's arm and eye are a charred ruin — she's not even sure if she's alive — and the wyvern that had been clutching the top of the tower has been petrified. Ruby's unconscious and so is Pyrrha, but she has no way to carry her wounded girlfriend down from the tower, so she waits. Someone will come eventually, they have to.
And eventually someone does: Mercury. She's been ignoring his calls because she didn't know what to do, but when he shows up she knows she doesn't have a choice anymore; she has to disappear. She hides everyone but Cinder from him — he knows she's there, and Emerald doesn't want him getting suspicious or sticking around any longer than necessary to look for her — and watches him rouse Cinder enough for her to call a Grimm to escape.
After Pyrrha and Ruby are picked up by their allies Emerald vanishes, allowing herself to be presumed dead by her old comrades. She keeps her distance and waits while Pyrrha recovers from her injuries, then follows her and the rest of her team when they leave with Ruby for Haven.
The group runs into Emerald shortly after leaving. She apologises for what she did, for her part in it — she's a thief, she says, and Cinder told her they were there to steal something; it may not be right, but it wasn't supposed to be like that — and tells them she wants to help them to try to make amends. Although they're extremely suspicious of her — she had been part of Cinder's team along with Mercury after all, both of whom they know to be enemies — they accept her story that she didn't know all of what Cinder intended, largely at Pyrrha's urging that she's a good person at heart.
Over the course of their journey, Pyrrha and Emerald grow closer, and what began as a spark soon blossoms into actual love. They each have their demons, but neither pry; they have a good thing going and don't want to risk it after all, but deep down — especially for Emerald, who knows what she's done and that she's responsible for the guilt she sees in Pyrrha's eyes — it continues to fester.
And then they come to Oniyuri and Tyrian makes his attack. He's delighted to see Emerald there — not out of any sense of camaraderie of course, he just loves having more knives to twist — and immediately begins taunting her, and her new companions about her. In the midst of it, he lets slip the secret she'd hoped would never come out — it was she who had tricked Pyrrha into killing Penny, she who had done such grievous harm to the one she loves, and not only that but she'd done so as part of a plan to trigger a massive Grimm attack on the festival.
Pyrrha is devastated; not only did Emerald do these horrible things, she also lied about it all this time. The others are furious and kick Emerald out of the group. She can't go back to Cinder, and even if she could she doesn't want to; she wants to be with Pyrrha, that's where her heart belongs. She decides to shadow the group, to help out where she can, and maybe she can prove that she's changed… maybe she can somehow mend the rift that's formed between Pyrrha and herself.
Pyrrha goes with the others to Haven, worse than ever; now she's not only blaming herself for murdering Penny, causing the fall of Beacon, and failing to stop Cinder, she's also blaming herself for not seeing through Emerald's lies and allowing herself to fall for someone like that. It only gets worse once she finds out about Salem, the relics, and the missing hunters of Mistral. When the battle breaks out she goes after Cinder hard, throwing caution to the wind. She doesn't care if she dies in the process — she deserves as much, she thinks, after causing all this — so long as she puts an end to it here, but that isn't how she wins her battles and she can't match Cinder on pure power.
This time it costs her dearly. Defeated again, she watches Cinder raise her scimitar to deliver the deathblow only for her arm to be yanked back by a chain just as it begins to descend. Cinder angrily turns and finds Emerald, who has now interrupted her kill twice, who betrayed her. In a rage she attacks, and although Emerald's Semblance allows her to evade for awhile, she can't keep up with the wide attacks Cinder's Maiden powers allow. Pyrrha can only watch, her emotions in turmoil, as it plays out toward the inevitable conclusion, which comes all too soon.
As Cinder rushes into the vault after Raven, Pyrrha scrambles over to Emerald — who's been run through by an obsidian blade — cradling her and trembling. "You're going to be alright," she says.
Emerald smiles weakly. "No I'm not... you're a terrible liar."
"You will, just stay with me!" All the anger Pyrrha had felt before is gone, replaced with desperation to keep Emerald with her now. She looks down from Emerald's face to the wound in her chest, where she's trying to keep pressure; there's so much blood... too much, she knows. Pyrrha turns and screams for help, but there's no help to come — everyone is busy with their own opponents, and nothing could heal this. Her attention is pulled back by a ghost of a touch at her cheek from wet fingers that smell of blood.
Emerald is pale now, her eyes dull – just seeing her like this brings new tears and steals Pyrrha's breath as a hot blade of pain stabs her heart. "It's okay...," she manages faintly — Pyrrha has to strain to hear her now — "because... I got to... love you..."
Emerald's eyes drift closed and her hand falls, leaving a smear of blood on Pyrrha's cheek. Pyrrha calls Emerald's name, then louder, but it's no use, she doesn't respond. Sobbing, she kisses Emerald one last time, holding her close and crying out in despair.
When her friends have finished their own fights, they find Pyrrha clinging to Emerald's body and weeping. They don't understand. How could they? They didn't know her as Pyrrha did, didn't love her as Pyrrha did. She thought that what Emerald did to her at Beacon was unforgivable, but she was wrong. She knows now that she would forgive it all in an instant just to feel her warmth, to see her smile, to share one more kiss, for if Emerald's betrayal broke her heart, her loss tore it from her chest, shredded it into a thousand pieces, and scattered it to the wind.

🍁🍁🍁I think this is it I think in the next episode we may get to see Oscar unlock his semblance
Hmmm…probably anon-chan or perhaps… a small glimpse of it awakening? I’d still wish to stand by my earlier Pinehead headcanon where Oscar may play a pinnacle role of helping RWBY escape from the Other World beyond Remnant after they all fall in.
I think what could potentially happen for the finale episode of V8 Ruby sacrificing herself to ensure Penny gets to Vacuo.
Even if Penny still has the Relic of Creation in her possession, I doubt she’d be able to summon Ambrosius’ power again until the evacuation is complete. Because remember, the staff can only be used to perform one task at a time. Even if Ambrosius were to be summoned again to create something else to help RWBY, he won’t be able to do so without erasing his last creation which in this case is the Central Point. Similar to how Atlas started dropping the instant the staff was used to help Penny, the Central Point that was created before will disappear before Ambrosius can be used to do something else and by that time, RWBY would still be trapped on the other side and will disappear into the void either way.
So the way how I see it, RWBY is screwed no matter what unless they make it through the portal right now as it’s working the way it was created. But as evidenced by today’s episode and teased by the opening throughout V8, RWBY is NOT going to make it to Vacuo. Blake, Weiss and eventually Ruby will all inevitably join Yang in falling “off Remnant and into the Other World”.
That being said, my theory or prediction is that, after Blake and Weiss fall and Nora and Jaune are forcibly pushed into Vacuo, Ruby and Penny will probably be the last two left inside the Central Point with Neo and Cinder. From here, something will probably happen to force Ruby to make the sacrifice to ensure that Penny makes it to Vacuo in her place.
While I personally never quite favored the fan-favourite theory of Ruby losing an eye, after deeper thought, I do think it would be interesting if one of her silver eyes becomes damaged (not permanently) after Neo slashes her face.
After Ruby goes down, Penny will then try to go to her aid which only left Cinder with a clear window to overpower Penny.
The idea that I have is that a half blinded Ruby would sacrifice herself to send Penny to Vacuo. Since this season has highlighted how much Ruby is willing to help to ensure that Penny remains alive “a little longer”, it wouldn’t surprise me if we got a potential scene where Cinder is about to kill Penny only to be thwarted by Ruby using her semblance to push Penny with the Relic of Creation through the portal. That way, while Penny is able to make it through safely. However this leaves Ruby still trapped on the other side, wounded and all alone to continue fighting Cinder and Neo on her own.
Neo wants Ruby dead, right? So obviously she is going to get to watch her vendetta succeed because Ruby is essentially going to “die” and Neo would be responsible for it.
How does this all play into Oscar’s semblance you might ask? Whelp, call me stubborn but I’m still one to hold out for Oscar unlocking his semblance for Ruby. Bless me Rosegardening Pineheaded heart for that one.
Also, since Oscar was coincidentally the first person to test going back through the portal only to fail, it would be interesting if Oscar makes several attempts to go back through especially after learning that Yang, Weiss and Blake fell and “died” with Ruby being left to fight alone from Penny.
For me, I like the idea of Penny informing the others about what happened with Cinder and Neo and upon hearing that Ruby was in danger, Oscar starts attempting to going through the portal again but obviously keeps failing over and over again. Yet he still he keeps trying.
Only for something momentous and extraordinary to happen---Oscar starts to “force” himself through, bypassing the magic of the Staff of Creation and pulling a Monica Rambeau from WandaVision where to the total shock of everyone else, he succeeds in going back through the portal rendering the staff’s magic ineffective against whatever new power he possesses.
But by the time Oscar makes it through the portal with his semblance, he arrives too late. Ruby gets knocked into the void and all Oscar could do is watch helplessly as Ruby falls to darkness and disappears into nothingness; gone from this world.
As for Neo and Cinder, I’d like to see this last episode as another huge win for the villains. So with that in mind, I want to retract my earlier theory of Penny making it to Vacuo with the Relic of Creation. What I think could actually happen is, Penny survives to Vacuo but after Neo and Cinder secure the Relic of Creation for the Salem’s side.
So ultimately, Salem still gains possession of two Relics. And all that will be left for her to claim is the last two. Unless Tyrian and Mercury already gained the Sword of Destruction and all that’ll be left is the Crown of Choice which is still a mystery buried deep within Oscar’s inherited memories from Ozma.
Going back to Oscar---since the first time we heard the fairytale of The Girl Who Fell Through the World is from Oscar---what if…that was a hint to the nature of Oscar’s true power and what his semblance is going to be?
After everything that Oscar endured for this season, it would be refreshing to see him play a very important role for next season OUTSIDE of everything he shares with Oz. Meaning what I’d love to see is Oscar’s semblance playing a part in eventually helping the group reunite with RWBY lost to the Other World.
Like imagine if…it’s a case where Oscar’s semblance allows him to be able to connect to worlds beyond Remnant and travel freely between them without the need for a relic or a vault? It’s just something that only he can do as the boy who can fall through worlds.
I really want to believe that the Girl Who Fell Through the World was a hint at Oscar’s semblance. Why else would he be the one to bring it up in the first place. This fairy tale wasn’t even among the ones we know of.
I mean, this could all just be speculation on my part but, I’m sticking to my gut on this one.
I think Oscar’s semblance is linked to the Girl Who Fell Through the World fairytale and thus, he will play a part in getting RWBY back from the Other World especially after the villains gained the relics of knowledge and creation for Salem.
I have a feeling V8 will end with another huge win for the villains with Salem acquiring the Staff of Creation so that even if our heroes wanted to do something to help RWBY, they wouldn’t have Ambrosius anymore since much like Jinn, his power will be in the hands of Salem.
It was so sad watching how disappointed Jinn almost looked being forced to reveal our heroes’ plan to Cinder and her pawns. So I’m curious how it will be for Ambrosius being forced to produce creations that would ultimately be used for destruction. While I understand Ambrosius can’t destroy, it would be sad to see this being of creation have his creations be used in such a way to hurt people even though that’s not in his nature, y’know?
Anyways, that’s what I think will happen next episode. Another long winded response but those are my thoughts on that XD

That AU where they were partners... headcanons pls?
After Ruby tells her how she wants to be a hero and make the world a better place, Blake goes off the cliff planning on finding her.
Blake finds her easily and steps out in front of her while she's rushing about looking for Yang
Ruby is really quiet and shy while they look for the 'relics' and Blake is like "??? You're allowed to like. Talk yknow" and Ruby kinda blushes and goes "I...don't know how to hold a conversation with you..." and immediately Blake is like "Yes This Was A Perfect Plan" bc. Ruby is So Cute
When Ruby says they should hitch a ride on a Nevermore, Blake is just like "no you're absolutely right. lets go" bc truly? Blake is canonically always down for Ruby's schemes (except for at the beginning of v2 but she turned around p quick when the food fight happened)
just. so much slow blinking. and ruby picks up on that fast and does it back.
blake, soft smile, slow blink:
ruby: weiss,,,,,blake keeps blinking at me???
weiss: blink back, cats do it to show affection
ruby, blinking back:
blake: O///////O *runs away*
volume 2 is a lot of ruby being upset and jealous ab sun tbh. (just bc i feel like ruby is more predisposed to jealousy even if she doesnt realize the extent of her feelings)
when blake is overworking herself and doesn't want to go to the dance, ruby asks yang for advice on how to convince blake to go and yang is like "just tell her how much youd like to see her there!"
anyway where im going with that is ruby taking blake flowers and stammering her way through asking blake to the dance
blake is blushing and furious and asks if ruby is making fun of her or if sun set her up to do this and ruby is just like "no!!!!! i really want you to come to the dance and i especially want you to come with me!!!!" and basically they get kicked out of the library for yelling
blake rests up and meets ruby outside the dance and yang cheers and tells them how pretty they look
ruby clings to blake because she cant walk in heels and blake is just like "WHY AM I SO FLUSTERED BY THIS SHE'S JUST MY PARTNER. MY TEAM LEADER. WHY AM I BLUSHING!!!"
sun tries to cut in and ruby shoots him the nastiest glare. she doesnt know why either but SHE asked blake to the dance, dammit!
pyrrha and yang steal her away to dance with them in the end though and blake does dance with sun! she has fun! but she kinda misses how it felt to lead ruby in their awkward stilted dance (bc not being able to walk in heels is bad enough. trying to dance in them? eugh. hell.)
then weiss and yang both dance with blake and ruby steps out for a breath and so the dance arc goes about like it did in canon (with blake being Very Stressed when ruby comes back after disappearing for the last half of the dance and its much later than it should be)
i feel like the mountain glenn arc goes similarly, but with ruby actually listening to the rest of her team's conversation by the fire and her being the one to comment "youre not one to back down from a challenge, blake" and blake looks at her through the glow of the fire and she looks so sweet and sincere it nearly breaks her heart. ruby tells them to get some rest and that she'll wake the next person at shift change
and then yknow she gets caught by torchwick and goons
uhhh v3 headcanons include
ladybug going into the doubles match
ruby being the one framed (for injuring neo instead of mercury - em casts an illusion so that neo can still be the getaway driver)
blake being horrified bc like. ruby's emblem, dyed hair, speed, black + red aesthetic, red weapon and now her SWEARING this was an accident? its just too much.
but ruby's eyes are honest and so blake chooses to believe her and even does a little slow blink at her while yang wipes at ruby's face and promises to bring her back something sweet from the fairgrounds
yang + merc showdown happens in the tunnels to get to the other side of the arena after yang talks to velvet and realizes what the hell is going on during the penny pyrrha fight when she spots emerald
yang firing off shots at the nevermore in front of pyrrha and weiss rushing in with penny's sword to scream "get away from her!" (global warming? on MY ladybug blog? its more likely than u think)
blake is already calling her locker and trying to figure out how to get back to her partner
the blake adam fight happens in front of the tower and happens bc im shifting the timeline around to suit my needs
basically in my au here,,,,,,,,,pyrrha is taken to get the maiden powers earlier in the fall and cinder makes adam stand guard while she goes to get the wyvern
which means jaune calls the girls and wby goes to get pyrrha and then run into adam. blake even though she's terrified and not ready, tells them she'll hold him off. so then weiss and yang go off up the tower. (yang still loses her arm, cinder cuts it off instead)
the reason i changed it up like this? ruby stumbles on blake being stabbed and activates her eyes. the blast is so big it still takes out the wyvern and cinder. unfortunately it knocks ruby out but similarly to canon, blake leaves a copy of them and runs. adam flees when he realizes he has nothing else to do there (he does still promise to destroy everything blake loves starting with ruby but big blinding flash of light means he didnt get to)
qrow shows up and helps weiss bring pyrrha and yang (who are both injured and unconscious) down from the tower
sun sits by yang's bed until she wakes up and then tells her that blake left -- but he's going after her and asks her to tell ruby
pyrrha stays at the rose-xiao long house while recovering, weiss is taken away by jacques, blake runs, ruby leaves with jnr on their big journey and just. hopes she'll see everyone again
also when they get to the battle of haven, blake very quietly says "ruby?" and yang has to snap ruby out of her reverie. they fight alongside one another and when all is said and done she stretches her arms out to blake for a hug while she sits on the floor and blake rushes to her
(yang brought pyrrha along so jnpr has a big reunion and then both teams sink into a big group hug)
ruby tells blake all about her adventures with jnr and blake tells her about taking back the white fang (and about adam)
theres even more feeling behind ruby blasting the apathy when theyre about to get blake (and she gets a little embarassed when she's talking with maria and remembers that silver eyes are fuelled by love bc she activated them to save blake twice now)
adam v ladybug - ruby races through the woods and just comes over the cliff in rose petal form and slams crescent rose into his face
blake tells ruby how adam's semblance is similar to yang's but how he's super fast and ruby is just like "i can guarantee im faster" (canonically ruby's semblance is at least one part teleportation)
basically she uses a move like qrow did with tyrian and catch adam's sword in crescent rose. she then smashes her head into his face and he stumbles back and then blake jumps back up and kicks him in the back and he stumbles over the broken piece of gambol shroud and yeah they stab him.
they get back to find the leviathan and then it plays out basically how it did in the finale (but yknow with ruby and blake sitting together and yang gives ruby The Look™)
blake is freaking out bc she has no way to help and now the leviathan is staring ruby down
most of ruby's memories focus in on blake as something to activate her eyes and some of the bad memories is adam standing over blake at the fall and him throwing her off the side of the bridge
when ruby gets back into the airship blake is so relieved she kisses her and ruby is just like "aaaaAAAAAAAAAAA"
also ruby helps blake figure out what she wants to do to fix gambol shroud and plans it out with her so that when they get to a weaponsmith, all the plans are there
blake kisses ruby again after her haircut and ruby cant stop running her hands through it
