Even though Wolfwood is very much not an actual Catholic priest, I do find it compelling that Vash--someone without any religious beliefs and minimal exposure to "Christianity," courtesy of Rem (OG Trigun)--is the most faithful of the two.
And by "faithful," I don't mean so much in a religious or Christian sort of sense. More that Vash holds onto his faith that there is good in people and that everyone is worth saving. That the taking of a life is something so unspeakable to him that it will literally cause him immense mental, emotional and physical pain when he is forced to do so. His unshakeable belief, i.e. his faith that every life is precious and no one is beyond redepmtion irregardless of how morally corrupt an individual may be is so foundational to who he is as a character.
While I've only really experienced this through anime and various other Japanese based video games, I do enjoy seeing depictions of Christian iconography and concepts form non-Western creators. I love the art and memes of Vash being a "biblically accurate angel" (even though Plants aren't angels, I am so fucking happy that people are picking up on the unintentional symbolism) and I do enjoy the amount of, again, art and memes of Wolfwood being a cringefail Catholic priest.
But I also love the non-Western depiction of Christianity in Trigun, or rather the apocalyptic remnants of it. Despite the fact I have lost my ability to have faith in a higher being (and my own personal beef/distate with the Catholic Church/conservative Christianity as a whole), I find the worldbuilding of Trigun fascinating in this aspect as it provides its audience an alternative form of a global religion that's very relevant to our daily lives.
In Trigun, Christianity is very much a shadow of its former self, a leftover remnant of humanity--more specifically, a remnant of an old forgotten belief system--that has been essentialy been lost. Save for a few remaining Bibles and some memories of particular Catholic iconography/symbolism.
But overall, that's all that remains. Just familiar symbols and various rituals that some people are able to recall from their former lives.
So the decision to pair Vash up with someone like Wolfwood, someone who has lost his faith in humanity as a whole but has resolved himself to protect those that he can (or rather, deems worthy of saving) ... I find that relationship absolutely fascinating. Because I'd argue that in most Western depictions of a holy man (typically Christian and typically Catholic, let's be real), it's usually the holy man that is doing the saving. Or at the very least, is usually helping guide the other characters on their own paths towards redemption.
Despite the fact Wolfwood isn't an actual priest but instead an assassin trained by a mercenary group using the guise of an old religion (again, that most of humanity has clearly forgotten about), I find it to be a wonderful storywriting choice to make Vash the "holy man."
They're both incredibly tragic characters that burden themselves with crippling destinies. Destinies that ultimately lead to their own destruction, but hopefully all for the greater good. Vash holds faith that maybe, just maybe, he can make Nai realize the error of his ways and turn over a new leaf.
Understandably, Wolfwood finds this way of thinking horribly childish and naive. He even takes it as a personal insult when Vash continues to insist that killing people, even if it's for the sake of protecting someone else, is wrong.
But Vash isn't wrong for wanting to see the good in people. To borrow a quote from Everything Everywhere All At Once: "You tell me it's a cruel world, and we're all running around in circles. I know that. I've been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight."
Granted, Vash doesn't express his beliefs as eloquently as this. But that doesn't really matter, though. Because Wolfwood doesn't need Vash to make express himself this way for Wolfwood to finally understand him. Vash, by the simple of virtue of being himself, is a good person who chooses to see the good in others.
And Wolfwood ... Wolfwood is someone who chooses to see the bad.
Wolfwood cannot quite bring himself to view the world the way Vash does. And Vash will never be able to share Wolfwood's opinions regarding who is worthy of living, either. But they respect each other and understand where the other person is coming from.
It does take Wolfwood a lot longer to understand Vash as a person, let alone his faith in humanity. But when he does, it's so satisfying to watch Vash become someone important to him. Someone that he wants to protects. Because if Vash won't defend himself, Wolfwood resolves to be the one to protect Vash.
Even if Vash doesn't really want that.
It's so fucking amazing to see these two clash over their ideals, whether it's in the form of playful teasing or straight up beating the shit out of each other. But they stay together and hold each other in such high regard despite their conflicting beliefs.
To me, one of the most beautiful aspescts of Trigun is that Wolfwood--a man of faith but only in name--gets to have such a close connection with Vash--a man of faith through and through--and that because of their relationship, they both inspire a existential AND spiritual crisis within one another.
Because in a world that makes no sense, they both find faith in each other. And if that isn't the most beautiful shit you've ever seen, then I don't know what is.

✫・・。.Requests✫・・。.
Request form, rules, etc.
NOTE: PLEASE read this post by @frodothefair. Project 2025 is incredibly scary and plans to outlaw all pornography (possibly including smut), meaning us authors are at risk. But there is quite a lot of misinformation out there about it that causes unnecessary fear, while simultaneously leaving us vulnerable to what might actually happen.
── How to request
just leave me an ask! it can be anonymous or not, whichever you prefer.
I don't like receiving dms all that much (unless it's something like asking for permission to link a work, etc), so asks are better for me + it's more likely I'll see them.
── What I write for
Animes:
One piece characters mostly! I could also write for Trigun (98 specifically), Demon Slayer, and Naruto though. I occasionally write for My Hero Academia too, but I haven't been in the fandom for a while.
Sexuality + Genders:
I can write for any sexual orientation, but as of right now I'm only confident in writing for female/nonbinary/gender-neutral readers. sorry men🙁
Genres:
Fluff, hurt/comfort, AUs, prompts, you name it! I don't write for heavy gore, smut, or battle scenes, only because I suck at writing them.
Headcanon requests are fine too!
Also if you want to request angst, that's fine, but I don't know if I'm any good at it because I personally don't read it.
Writing style:
I write in second person, specifically because I don't have to refer to the reader with a name, considering I HATE using "y/n". NO HATE IF YOU USE IT THOUGH i just have 2020 wattpad trauma and can't force myself to do it.
── What I don't write for
homophobia, racism, transphobia, intense jealousy, cheating, bleeding (unless it's about periods), being hurt badly, major character death, r@pe/heavy non-con.
── What I don't write for (18+)
note: this is for any kinks/fetishes I won't write for.
homophobia, racism, transphobia, intense jealousy, cheating, bleeding (unless it's about periods), being hurt badly, major character death, r@pe/heavy non-con, scat, feet, cnc, other weird shit.
── Request specifics
Note: you don't have to use this specific form! You can be more or less specific, and please don't worry about giving me too much information.
If you want a very detailed one shot with a specific set up, write an essay if you need to! and if you just want to say something basic, just simply say something like "picking flowers with ace", as long as you're okay with it possibly being different than what you imagined. And even if so, I have no problem editing or changing something!
You can request just about anything you want, as long as you read the sections about what I don't write for. If you want the "reader" character to look/act a certain way (hair, eyes, skin, voice, tendencies, personality, anything and everything) tell me! You can also give me a specific AU/genre/scenario and any character/characters you want, with any story/plot you want, in any pov you want!
── Request template/examples
Note: you don't have to use this specific form! You can be more or less specific, and please don't worry about giving me too much information.
"Hello, Beans! Can I have a fluffy fic with Portgas D Ace x female (afab) reader? Like, reader is short, has short blond hair, tan skin, covered in freckles and with a little mole under her left eye. She's sweet and smart and likes to read books and stargaze too! The plot is that Ace has a massive crush on her, and reader realizes it, so with the help of the Whitebeard pirates (mainly Izo and Marco) she brings him on a cute date and confesses, and Ace is all flustered because she ended up being the bold one instead of him?"
OR you could just say something like this:
"hi can I get a modern au with Izo x reader (afab) where Izo plays with reader's hands under the table for comfort?"

Trigun Bookclub Trimax Vol8 Part2
Vol01: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Vol02: Part 1 | Part 2
Trimax: Vol01 Part 1 Vol01 Part 2 | Vol02 Part 1 Vol02 Part 2 |
Vol 03 Part 1 | Vol03 Part2 | Vol04 Part1 | Vol04 Part2 | Vol05 |
Vol06 | Vol07 | Vol08 Part1 | Vol08 Part2
Oh hell yeah we'll get to one of my favourite spreads of the whole series in this Part.
I will also not excuse any swearing that I'm doing while writing this review.
Now I don't think I got this on my first read through, but the sound here ("Gakin") sounds very much like no bullet was loaded? Sooo I guess Wolfwood very cleverly anticipated this move by Legato so we have him double-tricking him! Good boy! (I haven't read all bookclub posts to vol8 yet, if smb else already said this, whoops)
He's free...but instant knock-out. Ouch.
"Oh no fucker, I WON'T have you staring at my bf's ass." (loosely interpreted Wolfwood's thoughts)
If he missed, does this mean Legato changed the trajectory of the bullets with his powers? Sounds like a wild thing to do (but I'm not sure if it's a wild thing for HIM or completely within his normal powers?)
THIS shit was not part of the plan.
Reclaimed his ass (good for him)
This panel of Livio shooting behin him and saying "Amen"? It's pretty fucking cool.
Much less cool is that he's shooting Wolfwood.
And now Chapel literally casting judgement upon Wolfwood from above. God has this boy not suffered enough?
It's started, guys. The inner thoughs of Wolfwood...You know when I started reading Trigun, I had just watched ep4 or 5 of Trigun and I thought Wolfwood was "just" another cool character, but basically a sidekick to the main character Vash. Then I binged the manga in 3 days and saw that, although none of the other characters like Meryl and Milly are any less fleshed out or any less important, next to Vash he's probably the only one about whom we get so so much wonderful insight. So much deep character feelings, so much thoughts...and I'm so so in love with his inner monologues. They hurt to read but they show he's not just the cool priest with the machine gun, but he's hurting, he's self doubting, he's vulnerable and afraid at times and he has wishes too...
And when he's sitting there, riddled with bullets, it's the thought of Livio and how he still has to save him, that manages to get him to keep going.
They were friends, brothers! Memories of happier times...
Which fucker shot my Wolfwood.
Gnaring, biting, chomping on wood.
It's coming it's coming
SJAKD fskfa Vash literally answering his prayer. Cradling Wolfwood in his wings gently!! And protecting him from the bullets. And also being turned to him with his body, partly shielding Wolfwood with himself, too. This whole page. is so...romantic. And that feels almost like it doesn't even describe it accurately. This is most definitely the part where I really started to ship them, but then, is it romantic or platonic? It doesn't really matter because as much as you want to or NOT want to interpret into their relationship at this point, to me it's clear that there's some kind of love here that's based on their mutual understanding, trust, and how they both have supported each other until this point.
sjkADfaf *sighs*
Big fan of this Vash drawing with this pose here.
Reading this for the thousandth time and falling only deeper into the Vashwood hole.
Knives your vulnerability is showing again.
Cheeky bastard! (I say with love)
The right page is absolutely beautiful. And I love how the panel on the left pages insinuates how they are bumping againest the ship on their way through very comedy-style.
Next chapter! Chapter 5:
I'm cherishing every panel where we see them close and caring about each other. Imagining Vash gently leaning Wolfwood against the rock after catching them both from the fall (did they land on his feathers or did they fly to the earth? I'd have loved to know how they did it)
Love that panel at the bottom of Wolfwood! And, Vash with his hair down (and cloak off) like this looks soo young! More like Wolfwood's age instead of 150 haha
Baby Wolfwood Baby Wolfwood
The situation is turned into a funny one on the next page, but these pleas, they are very much real and urgent and from the bottom of Wolfwood's heart...and he rarely ever begs or asks for anything.
Marlon!! So so happy to get some characters back that we know, and he's a very lovable character!! And, of course, Meryl <3
Knowing that his friends are there to back him up, even from afar, he looks more sure of himself. Because you're not alone!
And THEN you had to go and ruin the atmosphere, Wolfwood. Because you just WALKED AWAY you big idiot
Anybody else got reminded of the Cowboy Bebop ending notes?
And that's all of the Vol8 recap I'm gonna do. There's one more chapter but I don't really feel like doing that, others have already discussed it anyway, so that's it for me! Now I can really dig into vol9 this week, oh lord I can't wait.

All your posts abt Trigun has me wanting to watch/read it now. But like ... How much damage should I expect to recieve from this? Is it Evangelion level type of hurt or what? Is it tragic, traumatic, and homosexual(even just enough to feed my gay brain)? Pls advise.
Yes, there's MUCH emotional damage, but in a good way. That completely devastates and traumatizes you, then heals you with a genuinely hopeful message of love & peace. :'3 (So don't worry, bc despite all the fucked up tragedies and suffering, the ending is still a bittersweet happy one.) The manga is one of those gems that will probably change your life~ and/or go insane with the Feels, as I don't think I've seen any fan who has come out of it emotionally stable or 'ok' 8'D. Extremely worth it, but it's a hard seinen with some pretty difficult/heavy content for some to stomach. And oh yes, from my ace eyes, it was quite disastrously bi too (nothing explicit, but more...Victorian style longing for solace that's subtle/artful in a way I like) - swinging both ways that were meaningful, poignant, and important to the mc in different ways (so yes, Vash has two hands for Wolfwood & Meryl). However, as a fair warning, one of them is perpetually doomed by the narrative, which made me mentally bluescreen when [redacted] happened, that I probably still haven't recovered from to fully process it - so I'll just say, cherish it while it lasts. :')) And don't ignore the women also, because they rock~
Also fyi, the old 98 anime, manga, and new anime are all different tellings of the story. :O So to introduce yourself and get the most out of all the lore, trying it out in release order is probably what I'd recommend (as that's what I did, tho I grew up with the old anime-eng dub first as a kid too.) Note that the old anime has a lot more filler/humorous moments (as it was made before the manga finished, and they characterized the mc as a bit of a skirt-chaser for some outdated gags, when he's not Like That in the actual manga and new series at all, so just Be Aware that that's a thing you can ignore) so it tells a different story than what the manga becomes, but to slowly introduce you to [The Pain] that happens around mid-way, the old anime can 'gently' prepare you for the meat of the manga, because oh, it goes way harder than anything the old anime showed. :'3
And the current Stampede anime is utilizing manga-only endgame elements/lore in new ways that are fun to catch if you've already read the manga too (and I'd say in vibe it's much closer/accurate to the manga's too, meaning there's not much relation it has to the old anime, so you can safely separate them), but just don't expect the new anime to be exactly like the other two either, as it's still its own separate thing - so that means, all in all, Trigun is 'holy shit 3 cakes!' worth of content to enjoy~
#trigun#anonymous#replies#the amount of content may be overwhelming but it's worth it#you can find the manga's dark horse tl at manga4life/mangasee123 or look for the overhaul fan tl#and you can easily get BOTH anime's dubs/subs from animesuge.to

I've read through what a few others have said and I hope you dont mind someone else chiming in as well-- It started out as a comment reply on the post but it got too long ;;
Alongside being a retelling, Stampede, or at least S1, is technically a kinda-sorta prequel sort of situation, since the final event of Stampede is something that happens before the main story of '98 and the manga.
The characterisation in Stampede isn't exactly inaccurate to the manga per se, but since it is a retelling that recontextualises and restructures a ton, it's definitely not 1:1. But for that matter the 1998 anime is also not 1:1 with characterisation, and I'd argue that it's just a bit farther off due to some of the comedy choices that were made, which were rather OOC in comparison to the manga, and also because of some of the plot changes due to the manga not being finished, as you previously mentioned.
Many of the more serious themes present in the manga also come through much stronger in Stampede, so far, than in 1998 despite the greater deviance from the manga's plot right off the bat. But I would say the first part of the manga is a lot easier to read through if you've watched 1998 first, since beat-for-beat, there's generally more similarities between the two, which makes sparsing out what's happening less of a task. The manga's pacing however, imo, is actually more similar to Stampede's (fast, a lot happening) ironically. 1998 has a lot of filler very early on which makes it the odd one out in terms of pacing.
The manga is definitely darker than the 1998 anime, and Stampede seems to, so far at least, not be shying away from those darker elements. While there is some of the same fun in the first portion of the manga as in 1998, the latter portion is very much a seinen, and Nightow takes full advantage of the ability to explore more mature themes that being under this demographic label offers.
Also, as a side note, some of the production team for Stampede actually hadn't watched the 1998 anime prior to making Stampede, and had only read the manga, which is part of why there's such a stark tonal difference between the two anime specifically. It's very hard to pit them against each other in any definitive way, so I definitely second that it's worth experiencing each iteration!
YEAH!!! i really appreciate it this!!!! yeah, i know fuck all about what the manga has and doesn't have cause ive been trying to avoid as many spoilers as i can for it so this is really helpful, i didn't know that the characterization is so different within 98 and the manga, that's gonna be fun to explore lol, also that the tone was pretty different! i know trigun is lighter than trigun maximum so im also interested to see how that plays out
and also yes! i do know stampede is a prequel, retelling, sorta thing,, it just rolls over a lot of the character introductions and like, early storybeats within it's prequel to the main storyline while also including flashbacks and shit that happen later in the 98 anime so it's confusing to classify
thanks so much for your input! i really appreciate it cause i have no clue abt this stuff, again, haven't read the manga yet :)
#super helpful#also i hope i didnt like disuade anyone with my incorrect info abt the similarities from 98 to the manga!#ask#trigun#anon#tizzy talks

🗣️❔📝 for the wip ask game!! :0
🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP
OHHHHH. DREAMSTUCK. Dreamstuck is my favourite wip, no question. It is a thriving crop and I am its loving and caring farmer. It's so cringe (affectionate) and I am so badly invested in it. It's a love letter to both source materials, Homestuck and DSMP. I love both of them, and while the original creators (Dream and Hussie) turned out to be assholes, everyone else who was involved in them poured their entire souls into these two stories and I love just. Showing that. Taking apart the best bits from the Homestuck story which is so nuanced and complicated and took great care and time to make, and placing it on these silly little Minecraft roleplay characters that have so much heart poured into their acting and storylines. I'm just. Yeah. Dreamstuck. <3
❔Choose a random WIP and talk about it.
hmmmmm. u know what. I'm taking this opportunity to rant about my Escape from Furnace wip because the fandom consists of like maybe 4 people so there's no one to talk about it to. Pull up a chair bro
ok ok. ur not gonna understand this unless you've read the books but w/e SO THERE'S THIS GUY NAMED GARY OWENS, RIGHT. He's a 17 year old and he dies in like the third book and he's an asshole who beats the shit out of people with no remorse. The only hint of a real character under all that is when he makes an offhand casual comment about his dad beating him, and later when he see him crying after the wheezers started their procedures on him, and lemme tell u. I ran with that. He survives in this AU which I have dubbed the Almost Everyone Lives AU because I also wanted to save two other characters who died. Because I love them. and I'm going to give this troubled teenager who committed patricide a good healing arc ok. He's the oldest kid who was put in Furnace Penitentiary in the time frame of the series and i think he'll definitely have a crisis about turning 18 while Alex and Zee are still like 14-15. my guy's got issues <3 my little scrimble scorblo

FUCK IT. FURNACE FIC CHAPTER 7. because i haven't made any headway on my next trigun fic so i have nothing 2 post at all for that, and my humanstuck fic would make no sense out of context. SO HERE'S GARY OWENS IF U DON'T CHEER AND CLAP FOR HIM RIGHT NOW I'M BLOWING THIS WHOLE WEBSITE UP

“Get to the point,” Gary snaps.
Bodie just smirks. “But you’re okay. You may not have made a good leader, but you’d still make a damn good Skull.”
He sets down the crisps. Another Skull immediately snatches up the bag and digs in as Bodie rummages around in his pocket. He pulls out a black scrap of cloth, a crudely painted skull on the front. Kevin’s old bandanna, the one Gary took from him on his first day.
“It’s not like we’ll be doing much for crime from here on out anyway,” Bodie says. “Ain’t much point to it, now that the world’s gone to shit. And yous ain’t takin’ back the leadership position, that’s mine. But this is still yours if you want it. You earned it. Once a Skull, always a Skull.”
Gary stares at it in disbelief. First he finds out Bodie is still alive after their escape, and then he wants to offer Gary a spot in the Skulls again?
“You’re really just dropping bomb after bomb on me today, aren’t you?”
Bodie snorts. “Guess so. It’s alright if you don’t want it. I wouldn’t blame yous.”
Gary carefully takes the bandanna like it’s something special—which it sort of is, if he thinks about it. How many Skulls have worn this bandanna? How many members has this been passed down through, stolen from, claimed as a prize after a brawl?
He can’t think of anything to say, so he just says “Thanks.”
Bodie smiles. He slings an arm over Gary’s shoulder. “Welcome back, Owens.”
#wish i had any trigun snippets for u but alas. all i have at the moment r gay teenagers with trauma#gary is a piece of shit bastard btw i love him very much :)#diversity win! the token white boy who committed patricide is gay for one of his fellow gang members!!!!#sry this just turned into me ranting about furnace. it happens the brainworms get u sometimes#friend tag :3#escape from furnace#eff this

Vol01: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Vol02: Part 1 | Part 2
Trimax: Vol01 Part 1Vol01 Part 2 | Vol02 Part 1Vol02 Part 2 | Vol 03 Part 1 | Vol03 Part2 | Vol04 Part1 | Vol04 Part2 | Vol05 | Vol06 | Vol07 | Vol08 Part1 | Vol08 Part2 | Vol09 Part1 | Vol09 Part2 | Vol10 Part1 | Vol10 Part2 | Vol10 Part3 | Vol10 Part4 | Vol11 Part 1 | Vol11 Part2 | Vol12 Part1 | Vol12 Part2 | Vol12 Part3 | Vol13 Part1 | Vol13 Part2 | Vol13 Part3 | Vol14 Part1
I don't wanna do this, but I have to! Aaah Chapter 1 is already killing meee. This will be long, probably only 2 chapters per post...because I need to save every picture!
Chapters 1 and 2 review under the cut!
It's early Vash! And everybody is smiling and happy...even Knives!! Just imagine what this manga would be like if it was a story about two alien boys helping out the humans on a strange planet with their fun and weird powers and shenanigans. The Office style, Knives looking sceptically into the camera while you can hear Vash shuffling around in the background and crashing things. Then even Knives has to laugh when he sees something funny outside of the camera view.
Chapter 1:
Alas, we are a manga with a darker story so hmm let's get on with it.
Loving Vash's little "haha no you haven't" :D And then trying to backtrack.
And again, we're getting Vash's thoughts...so very few moments throughout the whole series that every time it feels special and monumental. And this, it's...it feels like in this world full of bandits killing would be such a meaningless act, nothing to really ponder about. I mean, go on Vash, defend yourself, if the others die in the process it's not your fault! But he doesn't. And I really like that he's not being portrayed as this cool gunman that kills 5 bad guys with one bullet or smth, but he's defying every rational way of living under these surroundings to follow his belief.
The fight between Legato and Vash looks awesome and a lot is happening which I don't follow haha! But here I was thinking maybe Legato is pulling all those debris stuff that falls from above (the spaceship?) down on Vash with his powers, so that Vash's feathers are momentarily distracted with defending himself, and in the meantime Legato can get closer!
I really can't recall what happens with Chronica and I've read the series 2 times already...so...hope she's ok down there!
AAAH Legato you're fucked. We all love Vash when he's fun and friendly but BOY do we also like it when he's terrifying, don't we? That look!
Is it....secret shoulder pad weapon??
Get terrified, Legato.
This is such a damn cool Vash panel.
The text: Ough.
The middle panel: AAAAAH legit scary, imagine being Legato right now.
Also thi? Holy shit. He's just moving the prosthetic right through the gun. That is NOT an opponent you want to mess with. I think they are both screaming here.
(Small Elendira!! <3) Aso yeaaah ok Legato you can have a little of my sympathies. The sky looks so clear and wide and full of hope and how he's looking up at Knives..aaw dang.
Get crushed, Legato....this is the most brutal we've ever seen Vash be towards someone, isn't it? In terms of purposefully inflicting wounds.
What a cool change of emotion in this scene!! Legato really wants to die and he finally...sounds and looks at rest? And the moment he realises Vash won't do it, it's just pure anger. This is such a cool scene!! And Vash looks so conflicted!! He wants this fight to be over...but he cannot give up on his way of living.
Vash panel for the collection ♥ (and I kinda get where Legato is coming from.
Savage page....
(in any other scenario that Elendira/Livio blob could be a sexy pose but Nightow had to make one dead and both with a nail stuck through their torso)
Also the image of Elendira and Livio swooshing with high speed through the battlefield to Legato's place...how many poor citizen will be haunted by this picture for the rest of their live??
Because why you would want to work with someone, why you deem someone important, is only based upon their usefulness, right? Hmm, Legato? Mister I-need-to-be-useful-to-Knives?
Just imagine me screaming along with Vash here.
AAAHJDDAD BUUUHUHUHU that...that is Wolfwood in Vash's memory. Smiling, proud, upright, looking forward....aaaah buhuhuu. As I've said in an earlier chapter recap, I tend to overlook the fact that Vash and Wolfwood do NOT have the chance of a future together because of all the fics and art I see and think about, but pages like these always slap me back into reality. Thanks! Damnit.
*making the Cowboy Bebop pose* Baang.
Chapter 2:
Someone wrote smth about this being Wolfwood's ghost talking to Livio. It could be Razlo? Probably not! I'll wait for later in the volume with the other scene to write my thoughts about that.
Savage page...Overkill indeed (Interestingly enough, the "Overkill" title can also refer to what the earth has planned with their attack on Knives!)
And immediately breaking down
I wonder what the meaning is of Vash's coat turning red again. The black was thought to represent to last of his powers being used. But he's not gained any more powers, so was it also a sign of the pressure Legato put on him? Him being cornered, resisting the urge to kill until..he finally couldn't?
Also somebody else already wrote a post lots of weeks ago about how Vash, who lived his whole life after his firm believe to not kill, killed one person in the end for Wolfwood. Because he couldn't bear to let Wolfwood's death be in vain. A life for a life, but one life was indefinitely more important to Vash than the other. And, it's such a cruel story, but I love it. I love it because there's no moral to take from it. Because Vash as the main protagonist does not keep his higher moral ground by never pruposefully killing anyone. And it doesn't matter if it's Legato or a less evil person, the reader has learned throughout this series that this isn't important (and to Vash makes no difference) because a life is a life. Trigun isn't a story where the good people can always do good stuff because sometimes, life doesn't let you. It's just...a story. Shit stuff happens. Good stuff happens. The only thing that is permanent is the hope for the days to go on somehow. I'm getting sentimental before I'm even at the last chapters.
Nightow serving double punch after double punch! Of course now Vash has to get sad as he realizes how much his words must have hurt Wolfwood...and he can't take them back anymore. He can't apologize anymore! And we know they hurt Wolfwood because he's been often enough thinking about them. (But it was also these words that made Wolfwood get up, because he could NOT be a coward, he did NOT want to give up hope) Fuck, these two.
Yeah, I imagine it wasn't that much of a difficult decision for the earth government, sitting far far away, dooming some humans on some distant planet out there.
Silly Vash face!!
Turning them around so I can get a better look at these boys...the way Livio is broken up about this, he KNOWS what it must have meant to Vash. That Vash would take such a sacrifice for him (and for Wolfwood, by that)...I doubt he'd ever thought smb would sacrifice so much for him. Vash just earned himself a sworn brother for forever!
Meryl, who has seen so many memories from Vash's past, maybe she can grasp best what this means for Vash. And finally...finally this is the moment where someone will take some burden from him! And cradle him a bit, Meryl :( That man needs him. While he's laying in your lap, stroke his cheek, comb through his hair, wipe away some of the blood...someone please be soft to him and Meryl, you're the perfect one for the job.
Mr Vance has risen in my esteem!
Aah I have reached my image limit, but I wanted to post the last image with the feather...well. On towards the next chapters!! This will be a long read through but I really enjoy taking my time with this last volume. Gotta do it justice.
