Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog!

I decided to make a new pinned post with all the information that is available on my desktop site but that will be more accessible for mobile users. Plus a few extras 😉

So an introduction.

I'm Ace. I started this blog back in February 2018 after seeing a post that referenced the whump community. I had no idea there was such a large community here on tumblr! As soon as I saw that making a whump blog was an option I immediately made one. And I haven't regretted it since. I love this blog, I love this community, and I'm thrilled to be here three years later! 

Here on this blog you'll see lots of gifsets both reblogged from wonderful creators and gifs made by yours truly. I also write fanfics on occasion. You can check out my work on AO3 under the name "aceofwhump" or you can look under my tag "ace writes stuff". That tag will have some stuff not on AO3 too. I also do whump lists for certain characters, trope lists, video clips of good whump, and fanfic recs.

My favorite tropes are:

Emotional: panic attacks, nightmares, insecurities, feeling inadequate, fear, grief, flashbacks, flinching, emotional breakdowns full of sobbing, emotional outbursts, scar reveals, anxiety, self hatred

Environmental: accidents, natural disasters like earthquakes or storms, hit by a car, collapsed building, falling through ice, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, falls, burns, infected wounds from lack of medical equipment, sickness, being unable to breathe, drowning

Small moments: limping, feeling weak and seeking support, breathing through the pain, moving wrong in a way that aggravates the pain, and the sudden seizing of his body, shaking hands, pressing the heel of his hand against his temple because of a headache, taking a moment to close his eyes because he’s light headed/exhausted/has such a bad headache

Introducing…

ACEOFWHUMP’S FANFIC MASTERLIST!!

This has been a massive, ongoing project of mine for a while now in which I am endeavoring to catalog and categorize every fanfiction I’ve ever bookmarked. I fear this project will never be complete as I'm always reading and bookmarking new fics but I’m going to share it anyway.

Inside, you will find links and summaries to the fanfictions I’ve read over the years on both AO3 and FF.net. Each fic is sorted by the specific whumpee that they center on. So there’s a page for Danny Williams, for Mike Warren, for Lucifer Morningstar, and many many more. The fics are 90% whump with a touch of fluffy ones thrown in too. This list is based on the fics I’ve read and bookmarked so it leans heavily on my favorite whumpees and my favorite tropes. 

I’ve been working on categorizing every fic by its tropes (so theoretically you could search for say seizure fics or sick fics) but that’s taking me a loooong time because I have to reread every fic in order to determine what kind of categories to make and to look for the specific tropes. So for now you’ll have to make do with the fic summaries and using the search function. When it’s done, each whumpee will have their specific trope categories so you won’t necessarily find the same tropes in each category but it should help narrow down the fics better once I’m done. This is an ongoing project for me.

The list gets updated all the time so check back in every now and then. There might be something new.

I do take suggestions of fics to add to this masterlist but please keep in mind that it may not end up on the list. It's nothing personal I promise. I just can't add every single fic in the world.

Lol, I didn’t know Mick Jagger did uncredited backing vocals in Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain”. A line made me think of the Karma music video closing scene-“I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee/Clouds in my coffee, and…"”. I wonder if CS told TS that WB was only one of the guys the song was inspired by (eventually revealed later)- or gave her the full details? Both understand the “paternity test” application their lyrics have gone through. Only the writers know full truth- we don’t.

i admittedly haven't seen the karma music video (VERY disorienting when gifsets pop up and the visuals are unfamiliar lol), but something that always makes me think of you're so vain is gold rush (it fades into the gray of my day old tea). (also funny because i read WB as william bowery before warren! 😂). i think i did know this about mick, but had forgotten! it's such an all-timer of a song. there was a story years ago that carly revealed the full inspiration to taylor. i can see why she did that, given their connection as lyricists and taylor being a spiritual successor to her in many ways. they'd absolutely be able to understand one another's songs being examined in that way.

A: There was something about the way we saw each other while we sang. At that time in our lives, we had an uncanny physical resemblance to each other—especially our faces and our lips. We stood at the same height and we were both lanky. In the waxy top of the ebony piano, there was a veneer that was just like a mirror. There was a reflection on it, which just blurred the outlines of our faces so you couldn’t tell who was who. We were looking at each other the whole time. It certainly had a heat—and a power—that keeps lasting.

Q: When you hear of artists like Taylor Swift getting criticized for her songs about relationships, do you have PTSD?

A: She’s told me that she gets raked over the coals. But anybody who’s as successful as Taylor is going to get raked over the coals for one thing or another. She could have gotten it for writing about mashed potatoes and the perfect gravy. She’s so wonderful that she was born for the job. She’s the perfect species for this time—in this century. She’s the ideal girl. Which is why they want to rake her over the coals.

Hi there! You're my OC Bingo Buddy! I was wondering if you could tell me a few facts about Charlie Bell and Zara. Also who the actresses are that play them and why you chose them?

OMG, hello! Yes, I'd be happy to tell you a little bit about my babes! The answer will be below the cut!

Starting with Charlie, who I love a lot but between the two has caused the most headaches. Some fact before I get into the roller coaster of her face claim because um... it was a ride, let me tell you.

- Charlie is the youngest member of the Bell family and was raised by S.H.I.E.L.D. members and was a member of a experimental S.H.I.E.L.D. program training children to be agents. She excelled in this program but following the attack on New York during the events of Avengers, her parents were killed and Charlie's older brother Evan decided to leave the life and try to give Charlie a chance to be normal. She was not happy about this.

- Charlie's mother was a scientist with S.H.I.E.L.D. and as a child may have performed some experimental treatments on Charlie based on some of her research when she was younger. As a teenager, upon realizing that the whole normal thing isn't for her, Charlie takes it upon herself to finish the treatment her mother started on her all those years ago and becomes the hero Spinner.

- She lives next door to Peter and May Parker and is the first person to realize that Peter is Spider-man.

- It is alluded to that the spider that bit Peter and gave him his powers was based on the research done by Charlie's mother. With this in mind, Charlie herself has spider-powers too. For example, she has organic webbing that shoots from her wrist. This webbing can be poisonous and so can actually be used offensively to great effect. She can shoot a kind of acid from her hands that are strong enough to eat through metal and also has a degree of control over her pheromones that she can use to make others angrier or more docile. I decided to lean into the poisonous spider idea hard.

- Initially, Peter feels a bit of a rivalry between himself and "Spinner", mostly because Spinner was kind of way better in a fight than him. He is very surprised when he learns that Spinner is actually his next-door neighbor.

No on the subject of her face which just... it's been a lot okay. Originally, I had picked Hailee Steinfeld for her face but after the announcement of her being cast as Kate Bishop I knew I needed to change her. This also coincided between me coming up with the idea of another oc of my, Hattie, who I decided to actually make one of Charlie's siblings. I knew I wanted to cast Teresa Palmer as Hattie's fc so that at least gave me a direction to go with Charlie's. I needed a blonde with some touch content who looked like she could be a hero. This led me to Kathryn Newton who I actually liked more for Charlie than Hailee but uh... then Marvel decided to cast her as the new actress for Cassie Lang which led me to another predicament. It was a struggle because I just couldn't find an fc that I liked for Charlie. I settled briefly on Skylar Samuels but quickly changed my mind because she just didn't have the right vibe. Next I moved onto Nicola Peltz who, again, didn't have the right vibe and I didn't love but I was stressing myself out trying to find the perfect fc for Charlie. The most recent edits I've made for Charlie are actually with Nicola's face but that's just because I haven't gotten around to making a gifset with Charlie's new fc because I have finally settled on a new face that I love that just works infinitely better for Charlie, especially when you consider the faces of her siblings (Charlie Hunnam for her older brother Evan, Teresa Palmer for Hattie, and Minka Kelly for her sister Sadie who actually also has recently been the subject of an fc change). Her new face is Madison Iseman who I actually love for Charlie more than any of her other faces!

Next, we have my babe Zara who just... I love her a lot okay. So some quick facts for the babe...

- She is completely human and it's never discussed quite how she found herself in Space. She never knew her mother and growing up she was something of a pet for the Collector.

- She finally escaped as a teenager and ran into Rocket and Groot who soon became the closest thing she had to a family. The three of them became quite a trio of bounty hunters.

- Her weapon of choice is an electrically charged metal whip that she usually wears like something of a bracelet. Rocket was the one who made this weapon for her.

- Zara often uses her good looks to trick her opponents into thinking she's not a threat, but actually, she's quite deadly and is always keen to take on opponents who appear bigger and badder than she is.

Zara's fc is Emeraude Toubia and honestly... this choice was straightforward. I loved her and wanted to use her. Her vibes fit right for Zara and visually I liked her in comparison to the rest of the cast, so she was chosen.

I haven't been keeping up with the season, but obvi I've seen gifsets galore & I wanted to know your take on how human Cas is behaving. I know he's had a soul since Metatron (& I assume he didn't lose it just bc he got his grace back), but I feel like since returning from the empty he's been wearing his emotions & thoughts on his face & in his movements more clearly. Do you think this was a conscious choice after facing the empty or a less tangible change that occurred within him as a result?

I think something less tangible that’s been happening for a long time, because back in season 10, even, we were talking about this. And I know in season 9 there was also at least some commentary on the way Cas was operating, when he had some grace again. Though I missed most of those conversations… My first Cas episode with fandom was 9x21 and I remember people talking about him leaning on the desk in his office and how it was a human mannerism. And that was all before we discovered he’d sewn his coat in 9x18 and we only got it in deleted scenes. 10x09 as well, I remember commentary on his mannerisms, as I think there were some especially noteworthy moments where he was behaving much less stiff than usual. 

All of early season 10 for Cas was pointing out how he’d rather be on earth, rather be with the Winchesters, and in general suggesting that he might one day be better suited for a human endgame than even he realises, especially played off against Hannah, who copes so poorly with being on Earth compared to how Cas has grown so comfortable there. 

And I don’t think Cas has ever really got more stiff and formal after any of this, just that the writing moved away from directly challenging Cas about who and what he was for a while and started asking him different questions and framing him in other lights. He picks up a lot of trauma towards the end of season 10, once he gets his own grace back, and he’s out of the zone where he would die without it and therefore challenged in the story to think about this himself. The writers don’t really wanna spend all their time telling the same thing over and over and if it’s a few season renewals before this can be relevant again, all I know is that Cas never answered the major questions he was posed, and this was never satisfactory resolved in any way when it comes to the themes of that time, just that we moved onto his depression arc. 

But I think in that time we saw a lot of stuff where Cas supposedly, at least with his original grace and often times without any magic effects on him, was still in a really terrible place, being depressed and traumatised, saying yes to Lucifer, and all the punishment season 12 put him through, including some very emotional moments like in 12x09 where he kills Billie on their behalf. 

This season his return from the Empty has made him seem more confident in some ways, but at the same time he’s still lost about his purpose, still struggling with being sure he’s completely accepted by Dean and dealing with low key self worth issues which of course affect him, because he can’t come out squeaky clean. But he had at least to fight off some of the worst things he believed about himself in order to defeat the Empty and on the other side of that he’s been standing taller and more confidently, which is great. But I think his mannerisms have been slowly creeping in and evolving for a long time, especially since being human, and while playing Cas since then always as a lower powered version of Cas, I think the change has been a long, slow process, but at this point we’re getting to where it’s extremely obvious how he’s so different from how he used to be.

My favourite example this season is in 13x19 where he’s bored waiting in Heaven, and he isn’t waiting like Cas would do in the old days, where if he was impatient he’d still stand still and radiate annoyance, or maybe pace back and forth if he was REALLY agitated. But we get a whole montage where he flops all over the furniture, pokes and prods things, and moves around the room bored and curious and very very much in a human way where it’s not even being disrespectful or whatever, it’s that he genuinely is bored and is distracting himself from a long wait in a really human way. I don’t think it’s really surprising with where is NOW or particularly weird for him. It’s not a red flag that anything is short term weird with him. Based on how the last like 4 years at least have gone for him, it’s not super strange for him to be behaving like this in season 13. But if he was doing it 5 or 6 years ago and longer it would have been much stranger, maybe even a red flag that something was wrong with him, and would have had way more purpose than just being to make us laugh at how bored Cas is, but to make some really profound point about him which would be new and revealing instead of expected and just a way of reminding us how different Cas is these days. I don’t think it’s revealing now in the sort of way of saying “wow! how human Cas is!” except maybe for people who REALLY weren’t paying attention, compared to if stiff and proper Cas had been revealed to act like this away from the Winchesters’ eyes in like… season 4 :P 

But, yeah, idk, Cas goes through so much and he’s been gradually changing for a long time, and in season 9 and 10 especially there was so much focus on who and what Cas was, and things like Claire calling out how much he changed and stuff, that it was a time of a lot of growth and shaping of Cas while season 8 had very deliberately been a sort of soft reset where it turned out Naomi was responsible, but it’s a last hurrah for Cas being remotely like he was in his most angelly times. They really rebuilt who and what Cas was in that time and since then we’ve been exploring deeper the new version of Cas.

I suppose no one really reads my episode notes but if you see me joking about party!Cas a lot, it’s because of this from 13x19:

mittensmorgulthat reminds me of some of the early s12 meta talking about ‘growing up’ and how the characters were getting to experience adolescence for the first time… and Cas is kinda going through growing pains too. guess this is late adolescence for him now :P

(I ended up typing this all to Mittens while first watching Cas messing around in 13x19 in the heaven waiting room. Though at the start of that episode, Rowena complains they don’t go to enough parties, and when she hangs up on them, Cas is like, “she’s right, you never go to parties.” I figure he’s waiting for someone to throw him a birthday party while Sam and Dean are too awkward to ask when it is after all this time.) 

But yeah, the traits I identify with party!Cas are all the ones where he seems less angelly and more human, more a truer version of himself and especially when it’s because he’s confident and owning being more than anything he ever thought he was “only”.
