I'm at the brink of a suicidal breakdown. I've been waiting to get my paycheck from an illustration job I've done last October 2023, I did ask them about it and said that I would get paid on the 27th. It's the 28th and I still don't see any updates on my end. I've gotten my hopes up for so long, every month since and I've burnt the fuck out from waiting.

I've been refraining myself from eating and buy myself stuff like food and toiletries and I've completely ran out of money to survive. I wish i could accept commissions but I haven't been doing great mental and physical wise and I don't have the means to draw other than a few sketches to cheer myself up. I'm completely burnt out.

If you could help spread this around I would appreciate it, every bit helps at least to cover my necessities for a while until I hope to eventually get paid

Commission/Life update for 2024

As of now I've resolved around 15 commissions since this post was made at the start of June! This is much faster than I was going the past year. They're going well and I thank everyone again who has been so patient and kind. I've gotten nothing but kindness as a response to the wait, even from those who have been waiting for over a year by now. Thank you.

I recently started two new jobs and school again, so I'm a little busy. BUT everyone is (albeit not at a super fast speed) moving up in queue! Once the owed "Full" commissions are done, I expect to get through Sketch Coms even faster and currently I'm at a good pace to be done by the end of the year.

The best days to reach me are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the moment. Otherwise it might take me a day or so to get back to you. I work on my own projects on the weekends to preserve my sanity, lol! Just know if I'm drawing something else, I haven't forgotten my queue!

Just want everyone to know I AM okay now and life has gotten better recently. However the past year and a half have been extremely difficult and I'm only now getting back on my feet. I generally don't like sharing life details publicly, but as a freelancer with clients that have been waiting for a while I feel like transparency is key.

If you don't want an explanation for the delays and just want to know my completion timeline, that's totally okay. Here is all the info up front. I'm going to continue updating my commission queue as usual and will not be accepting any more orders until ALL of the queue is completed. I'm working on finishing the half and full bodies first since they've been the longest waiting in queue. Then the rest. I don't have a set date in mind for when they'll be all done for good but the goal is by the end of the year. I think that's more than doable for me now. If you're a client of mine and have questions/concerns, please message me either here or on Discord and I'll do my best to help you. My username on discord is the same as my Tumblr username. Twitter and Ko-Fi are also options but I don't check them as frequently. I usually work Monday-Thursday so that will be the best time to shoot me a message or expect an update to the queue.

As a few of you might remember, in 2019 I was disowned by my mother for being a lesbian. I made the choice to go no-contact. Since then, up until LAST YEAR, she's routinely harassed me or had other family harass me, stalked me on social media, tried to get to me through the website I take commission orders, and threatened me multiple times. I was forced to move across the country both because I felt unsafe and because my partner had family elsewhere that were more accepting. I've had to change my phone number twice.

It's been extremely difficult both financially and mentally to keep my head above water. In 2021 my grandfather died and I still haven't felt like I've been able to properly grieve. I wasn't able to see him due to her and I wasn't invited to his funeral. We were very close and he meant the world to me. In 2023 my grandmother passed away very suddenly as well, and my mother used it as an excuse to harass me over ko-fi/my professional email. It was such a horrific experience that I fell into a months long spiral that I only just now feel like I'm climbing out of. This is when commissions first stalled. I was also starting to get overwhelmed, as I had to take on more work than I could realistically handle in order to pay bills and rent. That's really it - I just had to take more orders so we weren't kicked out of our apartment, and as my mental state deteriorated I couldn't keep up.

The good news is that my wife and moved earlier this year we're living with supportive(!) family now and our financial burden is much lighter. This gives me time to work on my backlog without re-opening. I'm also going to school again, back in college starting this summer for a second degree. For my own health after commissions are finished I'm likely going to take a break on opening them for a good while, even though I really enjoy doing them.

In the past two months amazing and not-amazing things have happened. The amazing thing is I got an ADHD diagnosis, something I didn't even know had been ruining my life for years. I'm still getting used to the proper medications but I'm already seeing a big improvement. It's as much of a relief as it is frustrating. My mother also reared her head again (like she usually does at least once a year) - this time, though, I learned she'd had a stroke. While I'm not involved with her anymore, I think most people could understand how it would still be a very weird and upsetting situation. As of right now I'm free of her once again, she seems to be making a good recovery and will hopefully continue to live a happy life far away from me. Still, those two things back to back have been a LOT to deal with on top of just trying to get better in general. I stepped away from the internet for a while for my own sanity.

The downside to being a freelancer is that there's not always a safety net. That's what happened to me. Thank you all very much for being kind and patient, I genuinely have had nothing but polite interactions with all of you and I really appreciate it. I'm sorry my personal bullshit got in the way of getting my work done for you. This is the longest I've ever taken to complete commissions and it's something that I'm deeply ashamed of. I promise they will get done. Being medicated and starting to recover from the family drama has revitalized me a bit. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out.

Making a post about this since we are in a very desperate situation tonight since our living situation is very much in jeopardy. Long story short, My name is Link. I'm a twenty two y/o homeless artist that has been trying to support myself and my family (younger sibling and father) since November 2021. We've lived in a motel since then, trying to keep up with food and the room through my commissions, surviving the best we can. Sadly, recently it's been getting harder to do so as work has been very slow as of late and bumping my posts hasn't done much in helping us. I'm hoping this post will help keep us here.

We owe 210$ for tonight because we haven't been able to pay for the last couple days and if we can't pay tonight, we'll be kicked out. We have nowhere to go and no one to turn to if that happens, on top of that severe thunderstorms along with tornadoes are on the forecast, which makes me more nervous and desperate for us to stay somewhere safe.

Digital Painting Examples:

Prices have been upped from my last posts because, after some thinking, I realised I probably haven't been charging enough for the amount of work that goes into my art.

Payment is still accepted via IAPs (and Steam Games/Giftcards) though! Just instead of for specific IAPs, it's for enough IAPs to make up the cost of the commission.

NOTES

I will draw non sky kids/any oc!

I wont drawing NSFW or excessive gore.

I wont draw real people.

I will draw blood and injuries though, just nothing excessive.

I will draw multiple skids/ocs in one image BUT it will cost 50% more. (IE- Triumph Violin turns into Triumph Violin + Sparrow pack. If a suitable cosmetic IAP cant be found for the 50% pricing increase, candle packs can be used instead.)

I will need references of anything you want me to draw.

I will be posting commission artwork to my online pages as examples of commission work I have done.

Discord will be needed to send the final image in order to avoid tumblr image compression.

You have permission to repost commissioned artwork, as long as it is properly credited.

Okay, this is gonna be a long-ish post. But this next bit of info will not affect the prices of any commissions that I'm working on at the moment, so no worries!!! If you ordered a commission from me recently, you can simply ignore this post's info for now and you don't have to pay anything extra! This next part will only involve any future commissions!

But I talked with my grandpa on the phone earlier today and he was kinda concerned; pretty much making a suggestion, that I should try raise the prices a bit on my commissions. At the moment they've been affordable, due to the pricing being a test pretty much; I haven't done commissions in a long while now, so I wanted to try it out after a while, offering somewhat affordable commissions. However, in the long run, it's not good. I'm in a pretty bad place at the moment IRL tbh when it comes to financial things; so it'd be necessary for me to raise the prices somewhat. Just so I can actually make at least some profit, that I can live with. Try paying my bills and such.

Anyways, tldr: I'm gonna raise the prices for my future commissions. Sketches (can be without colors or with colors) being from now on 5 euros. Headshots being 10 euros. Halfbody-drawings are 15 euros. Fullbody-drawings are 20 euros. And fake cartoon screenshots are now 25 euros (with optional subtitles and other effects being free!!!). I'm really sorry for this change, if the prices are too expensive. :( I can always do an art trade too with friends, mutuals and followers <3 Also when it comes to a commission sheet with example-drawings; I'm gonna try work on one soon! It's gonna take some time, but I'll try finishing it eventually and I'll post it here when I can! But uhh yeah, commissions are indeed open for at least friends, mutuals and followers!!! Hmu if ever interested, and I'll try to see if my schedule allows it. :) My IT studies start in early October, so I'll be busy during school days!!

how do you deal with feeling like you're being ditched for a better offer by a friend? it feels like that might be happening and it hurts a lot

it feels like since this friend got involved with a new group of people, they've been slowly ditching me.

i paid them for a sketch commission back in January and they said it was taking a while but was close to being done in February. it was more of an informal thing but thats beside the point. it's also making me feel messed about by them

Gah. I keep forgetting I have this ask. I just haven't been in a place where I felt like I could give advice in general, and barely been on Tumblr. so, sorry about that, first of all.

A lot of times if someone really clicks with a new person or group, they'll spend extra time with them cuz it's new and exciting. So, if your friend's been hanging out with others more, but still talking to you, I would just give it some time. but since you're talking about a commission from months back, I'm guessing it's been a while.

It sucks when friends move on, but it's also a natural part of life whether we like it or not. people change and grow, one way or another, and that includes friendships waxing and waning. There's likely something they're looking for that they're getting more from the new group than you, for better or for worse.

As far as the commission goes though, if you gave them money for a commission it doesn't really matter if it was informal or not, as long as they knew that's why they were getting the money then they're obliged to deliver. So you're going to have to decide if it's worth it to you to check in on it, or you just want to write the money off as lost.

To be honest, if you're sure they know about the commission, there's a chance they're (at least subconsciously) avoiding you out of guilt about owing you. So that might be something hanging out there too.

I would probably not want to stay friends with someone who took my money and didn't deliver, unless I knew exactly why, and even then I'd expect a direct apology about it. I don't know how close you two were before this so I don't know how committed you are to keeping them as a friend.

Personally in your situation, I'd make pros and cons of keeping them as a friend first, then confront them if I felt it was worth it. I would confront them specifically saying that hey, I don't know if you remember this but I'm still frustrated you never delivered, and at this point I'm ok with just putting this behind us but I would appreciate an apology for taking my money and not keeping up your end of the bargain first (but I also would have written it off several months ago). It's a major breech of trust to do that, so wanting an apology, or even wanting them to still deliver or give you your money back, as a condition of continued friendship feels reasonable.

But like I said, is what I'd do. Doesn't have to be what you do. But definitely know that you're worth it and there will be other friends out there, likely that respect you more too.

4.) How many different styles/mediums (e.g., digital art, traditional art, comics, sculptures, paper craft, etc.) did you try this year?

Actually, quite a bit!! At least, more than I initially thought I did. I, of course, did mostly digital art near the end of this year, and ended up producing a lot more pieces than I've done before!! It was honestly kind of crazy how much art I began producing at the end of this year. It was like I was a driver in a race, pffffffft. But, at the beginning of this year, I dabbled a lot in traditional art, because I enjoy the feeling of putting a pencil to paper, and whilst it takes more time, sometimes it can give you more freedom to experiment with designs or expressions. I also began making a long-form Bob's Burgers comic for the first time, which was inspired by @bluebirbbs and their long-form Bob's Burgers comic, which everyone should read if they haven't already. When I was younger and in art class, I actually used even more mediums for creating art, like sewing an actual Christmas ornament, and sketching stuff using a lightbox, which is super fun. But I haven't done those two things in years. I kind of want to try doing them again someday.

10.) What inspired/motivated you this year?

DT, you know I'm going to say you as my first (and biggest :3) inspiration. I mean, come on, you're the reason I have this blog in the first place. I know I've said it before, but seeing your amazing, lovely BB art inspired me to begin making my own and get back into drawing, and it caused me to create my blog and expand it into territories I didn't even think were possible. And now I'm running Geneuary, an event celebrating my favorite baby boy, and that would never have happened if it hadn't been for you, and that initial Boblin ask I somehow worked up the courage to give you (and am so glad I did)! It doesn't show it anymore, but do you remember how I didn't even have an image for my account?? 😆

Yes, I'm getting super sappy, but all of this is true!! Now, of course, you weren't my only inspiration. There are too many blogs to name, but @br1ghtestlight has been super sweet and my Gene Belcher buddy!! He's the one person who loves the baby boy as much as I do. We may or may not do a collab for Geneuary based on an idea she had about Gene and Tina working on a lil' puzzle together, which is just too adorable 😭

I also must shout out @babsvibes too. She was also, in a way, the reason I even have this blog. I used to be content enjoying this silly Burger show on my own, watching the episodes and having fun, and reading the occasional fanfic (@thisaliennerd and their Boblin fanfic Falling For You is Easy [Like Sunday Morning]) was one of my first forays into the BB fanfic community, and it wonderful) when I suddenly stumbled upon this Tinimmy fic by Babs one fateful day called Honeycombed Hair, I believe: https://archiveofourown.org/works/44413795

This fic led me to you, DT, and your amazing art!! And I joined this incredible Muppet community, and nothing's been the same for me ever since. Now I don't have to enjoy this show alone!! Of course, I have my BF @cryptidchrome now, who watches the show, but I digress. Babs also invited me to the Louigan server, which has been an absolute blast. And she's just an excellent writer in general, which is very inspiring as someone who also writes.

Shoutout to her new nephew for being the most adorable bambino on the entire planet. Welcome to the world, lil' bean!! @jimmyjrsmusoems is another fantastic writer and is hilarious, and is the other Tinimmy connoisseur in this fandom, besides you, DT, of course. Also, @koko-raccoon has some of the cutest art ever and listened to me ramble about my OCs, which I definitely want to thank them for. Their art is very inspiring to me. But the person whose art is the most inspiring to me, besides yours, DT, is probably @dianadeadwing. Her art is wonderful, and I'll never get enough of it. I also get so excited whenever I see it.

Okay, now for more of a speed round so I can mention more people!! @ratguy-nico has adorable art as well, and I love his style so much. It's wonderful. And @ltwharfy is such a good writer and I didn't even know until I read his Roudise Week fic about Bob and Rudy getting Louise a new hat when she outgrows her bunny ears. @keepyourhornson-spyro is another fantastic writer and is the certified Tedmort Monarch. There are just so many more people I want to name, but I'll just mention one more person: @carnivaldemon, who gave me the most adorable art of Gene and my OC, Alexis. His art is truly inspiring to me.

11.) What pairing/character/subject did you create the most for this year?

You probably already know the answer to this ☠️

It's definitely a tie between Boblin and Gene/Alexis, which is definitely my newest ship and obsession. But I have to give Boblin a special shoutout because I began work on an entire Pre-Canon Boblin series (which I'm still working on to this day) and a "Linda is Deaf" AU, both of which are super close to my heart now. Thank you for giving me the push I needed to work on my "Linda is Deaf" AU when I sent that ask about it to you, pfffffft.

Gene is definitely the character I've created the most for in terms of just singular characters. I could talk about him all day. I love this lil' guy so much. Hopefully, y'all don't get bored of hearing me ramble about him, because I'll certainly never get bored of rambling about him.

27.) Biggest surprise while creating art this year?

Honestly, the biggest surprise was just how sweet, supportive, and welcoming the Bob's Burgers community ended up being. Y'all welcomed me with open arms and supported all of my creative endeavors (and long analyses about Gene) and for that, I'll always be grateful. This community really does feel like one big family, and it's so lovely to see. Everyone is just so nice to each other, it warms my heart 🥹 And one of my biggest surprises was learning about the Ship Weeks/Character Events, and how fun they are. They're truly a testament to how sweet and talented this community is. I'm definitely looking forward to them all next year if they happen again.

(( I feel the need to come here now and ask some people to be more considerate. ))

(( I created this blog for fun on my SPARE time, which is little to none because I need to worry about getting money constantly so I can eat. Not to make it everyone's problem but I literally haven't eaten anything today yet and it's currently 6:30 PM as I'm publishing this post right now. There is food at home but it's just one option, which I'm so tired of eating it constantly for being one of the cheapest things to buy, it doesn't satisfy me anymore and we're just halfway through the month. I don't have any source of secure income and I got four other mouths to feed ASIDE OF MY OWN. I am constantly overworked with my underpaid part time job as English teacher because neither my father or younger brother can help me checking these homeworks or exams, they don't know English language like I do, and I still need to balance that with drawing for commissions, which are the only way I got to get money during the month. My father is too old to get hired for anything. My brother is still finishing college, if only that shit would end their strike to continue classes so he can graduate still this year and look for a proper job, which will also probably take some time, it's not easy to get a job here.

And it takes a lot of time for me to draw and answer the asks in this blog, usually over 1 hour and half, up to two hours or even longer when there's all three pups + something else they're doing or for the background - that is, if I work on it non-stop, because I usually draw a sketch, it sits there for a few days, until I stop again to clean it up and draw the lineart, then wait a few more days until I go and color it to finish and publish the answered ask. I have some drafts with a doodled answer waiting for a week or even two, still waiting for me to finish the art and post them. I'm having fun with these on my own time.

WITH ALL THAT SAID, I cannot afford Magic!Anons that demand for specific amounts of asks to be worked on, no matter how many. You gotta understand it: If I would start the M!A effect tomorrow, the first ask with that effect would show up like, one whole week AFTER or so. It just does NOT work here. Besides, I have some stories going on in the blog, like this entire thing about Marshall's incoming deafness, which took me what, let me see... Two weeks and half since I replied the first Anon who started it and it's still not done completely yet. I still got another interesting story to start and entertain you all with it, this other one has been waiting sitting in this blog's drafts for literally ONE MONTH now. I'm not gonna interrupt them with side effects.

If you want to dare my pups to do something funny or silly, that's cool! But it'll go for only your dare ask and that's it. I'm not gonna disturb other asks or RPs. Magic!Anons are to be fun and short and sadly I do not have the time to have anything going on for too long like that, not when it's something that changes appearances, or whatever like that.

I am not mad, or angry. I'm just asking for consideration. I am an exhausted and probably currently underweight old artist who just wants to have fun and have some food to go by every day. I'm not a tireless art machine. I'm doing this for fun, every day I wake up I'm glad to have started this askblog and see how much you guys enjoy it and enjoy my portrayal of these pups we love so much, it always makes me smile and feel like I can do some more and keep going, despite all things being against me. But sometimes I need to be firm and say no as well. I have my limits.
