something very very interesting about us (2019) is how it represents class... anyone can succeed if they are given the right circumstances and same chances which is why when adelaide swapped places with red she was able to thrive and learn skills like dancing that she otherwise couldn't in her life below with the tethered. she was given the opportunity that no one else in the tunnels had, if they did they probably would've been able to have the same chances as well.
poor people are not inherently stupid or less than, its just a lot of time there aren't the same amount of resources given. in this case the people below weren't prioritized the same, even being abandoned all together. the tethered were given a worse version of what the people above had, then left to replicate the closest thing to normal living that they could do. always forced to be mirroring what the people above were doing but in a worse and more horrific way.
neither red or adelaide were in the wrong. red is trying to take back what she had torn away from her and what the other tethered people were starved of, agency and freedom. while adelaide is desperately trying to keep what she had fought so hard to even get. chances at a normal and successful life, even a family. all things that she cant afford to lose.

matt and/or ur followers, do u have any advice on getting through junior year? i've heard very conflicting things about sophomore maybe being harder but i doubt it bc of the act and stuff and i' just. real worried going into it in two weeks
i assume ur talking abt high school so!! i never took the act but i took the sat in my junior year! i think junior yr is a lil more stressful just bc thats usually when you take those kinds of tests n start getting into looking at colleges more seriously, but heres my advice from my college sophomore perspective!!
1: stay! organized!
and as an addendum, try to avoid piling too much stuff on your plate! its easy to feel like you have to cram a bunch of stuff in before senior year/graduation, but know your limits! keep a planner of some kind, even if its just on your phone!
i also struggle with executive dysfunction so i really recommend habitica! it turns all your tasks into rewards w exp n levels n stuff! maybe im just a nerd but i really enjoy it. also not to flex but i have a gryphon mount and i love it
2: prep for tests like the act/sat, but don’t like, die over it
idk what your ambitions are so obv i can’t speak for the score you wanna get, but i know for my sat the most important skills were like, being able to read context for vocab sections, analysis for reading, and just generally being able to format an essay/argument! also im bad at math so i got no advice there.
3: visit colleges if you can!
long story short i left visiting colleges until the middle of senior year after i’d already applied n! dont do that! a campus can really make or break a school and visiting them would’ve eased quite a bit of research n stress on my part! if u do visit, look at their website n prepare questions like if you’re allowed to have cars, what the workload is like, etc!
4: the sappy part
this is so cliche but like. enjoy time w your high school peers yk? take photos! hang out together! make memories in clubs or theater etc! im absolutely not gonna say theyre the best years of your life but they’re years all the same. and on the flipside, its just high school! mistakes will feel so small with time away from it. you’ll be ok !
followers feel free to add on more advice bc im sure there are things that im forgetting !

This is me standing behind this painting by Tintoretto called il paradiso. Im not a fan of art museums. But when i went into the different galleries yesterday, i was more mindblown and mindfucked than anything. The amount of effort, patience and talent is beyond words. Especially when we entered St Mark's Basilica and everything from floor to ceiling is done with mosaic tiles. Its so damn incredible. The amount of patience is level 9999. And they all turned out so bellissimo! I love Venice so far. The cobbled streets and quaint shops make me feel im living in the facades of universal studios.. but im not! People here have been kind and friendly. I have been using my very limited Italian vocab and its been receiving praises. I start with the italian phrases i know and they actually replied back in Italian and i had to say "non italiano" haha! The weather here is gorgeous! And i love the bells ringing every hour/special moment etc. I enjoy learning about christianity even though i am not one (pls dont try to convert me lol). The stories from the bible translated into paintings.. most of the time i had to get nathan to tell me the stories and all. And to learn about the rennaisance and ventian history is also another cool thing to know. So much drama and backstabbing. And of course, roman history and mythology etc. I thought i was gonna be bored.. but im more interested than anything lol!! I'll be thinking like "whats this story?? Why did the artist paint this???" Etc haha My first day in Venice has been awesome. And i have been sleeping at 8pm waking up at 5am for the last 2 days and im loving it. I keep feeling like we have accomplished alot! Haha! So far we've met 2 iranian girls, a british family during our trip. Hahah! Sigh. Venice is really really super gorgeous! Ok, enough rambling, time to get my day started!! #naleytravelstoitaly #naleytravels Ps: i actually did a super long post just now on Venice but stupid instagram didnt allow me to post it? Blahhh! Haha (at Venezia, Italia)
