Cristiano stood outside her door, the cold bite of the late-night air clinging to him despite the warmth of his coat. He could feel the weight of his own stupidity pressing down on his shoulders, but here he was anyway, staring at the door he swore he wouldnât knock on. His fingers grazed the edge of his phone in his pocket, a tempting escape he couldnât quite bring himself to take. But even he wasnât drunkâor foolishâenough to believe that was what he truly wanted.
With a sharp inhale, he raised his hand and knocked, the sound louder in the stillness of the night than he expected. Seconds dragged on, each one amplifying the voice in his head reminding him how bad of an idea this was.
When the door finally cracked open, he exhaled sharply, running a hand through his tousled hair. âI couldnât sleep," he said, the words tumbling out the second his gaze met hers.
Dark eyes flickered over her face, lingering a moment too long, as if committing it to memory. It felt familiar and foreign all at once, and he hated the way it twisted something deep in his chest. âI figured youâd be up,â he added, his voice quieter now, a faint edge of defensiveness creeping in. âYou usually are.â
He shifted his weight, suddenly too aware of how ridiculous he must sound. âBesides,â he continued, the words rushed and uneven, âI think you still have some of my shirts and stuff. Thought I could grab them while Iâm here.â
It was a weak excuse, and he knew it. But admitting the real reasonâthe way the silence of his penthouse made him feel like a stranger in his own skinâwasnât something he was ready to do. Not tonight.

iâm so sorry for butting in but omg itâs really cool that you hunt,, though i donât myself, iâd love to for food one day â iâve wanted to for a long time but physical issues have held me back đ what kind of deer do you/have you typically hunted? i collect bones and i nearly got my hands on a roe deer skull once but i wasnât able to đđ
OMG CROW I'M AJDVVRBDB
I'M SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ME THIS AND IF WE KNEW EACH OTHER IRL I SWEAR TO IT THAT I WOULD'VE CONVINCED MY DAD TAKE YOU HUTNING WITH ME IF U COULD I'VE BEEN WANTING TO GO HUNTING WITH A FRIEND BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO
It sucks tho that your physical issues have prevented you, it's so fun to hunt honestly you just have to have the patience for it (which I have surprisingly since I don't have patience for pretty much everything)
shortened AGAIN because of my long rambles đđ
But the deer that me and my family hunt are white-tail deer and my parents went to Nebraska a couple years a go and my dad almost got a HUGE buck but it wouldn't stop running so he couldn't get a good shot. It was after a doe tho so he probably couldn't have stopped it either way
This might sound cruel or weird but my dream hunt is to hunt a wolf. Idk I just think it'd be rlly cool to and it'd be a nice challenge and good experience, though idk if it'd be good for food.. hhghhhhhh
And I have the bone of part of a deer jaw I got from hiking with my family one year. I could probably find it and take a picture of it honestly if you wanna see it.
I had to look up what a row deer skull looked like.. but that would've been rlly cool if you did get that skull
These are the deer skulls I have from my own deer I shot :33 my dad still has to clean my last velvet skull
#đ Í ÍÍ Í: Í Í Í nervo rambles Ë Ö´âˇ#đŹ Í ÍÍ Í: Í Í Í nervo replies Ë Ö´âˇ#đ¨ď¸ Í ÍÍ Í: Í Í Í crow Ë Ö´âˇ#I have never typed so fast in my life#I've NEVER been able to talk about hunting with any of my friends rlly#no one knows wtF I'm talking about đđ#Crow srsly if you have any questions about hunting I'm willing to answer them to the best of my ability đđ I'd love to talk more hunting#I'm gonna try to hunt rabbits this year too#omg I'm still so happy about being able to talk about this like akgdjdbebz#and you didn't butt in#as I said I'm rlly gald you sent this because I'm still just jahfbrbdhj#so happy#didn't look for typos again so sorry if there is any

Hi, how did you learn to draw Steve's physique?
Ohh what a complicated thing to answer...
When it comes to how I learned to draw anything, it's hard to say anything too specific since it's always a culmination of many years of assorted study and practice... but I can try to do my best to explain some of the biggest things that helped me learn, some tips I keep in mind, and maybe at least some places to start/delve further.
(just a little disclaimer it's not like my drawings here are going to be 100% medically accurate.. they're just to illustrate concepts!)
The main thing about learning various physiques is understanding anatomy. Which feels obvious, but I don't mean proportions; these are important, but perhaps more important is understanding the skeleton and how it moves and learning where muscles connect to bones and where fat grows on the body. When you understand how these function on a more mechanical level, depicting form and movement in a way that feels natural comes in tow.
For instance, understanding things like the pronation and supination of the radius and ulna, as well as the fact that muscles can ONLY contract or relax, will help you understand a bit better which muscles will be flexed and which will not while someone moves. It's inherent to the positioning based on the structural makeup of the body... It's not like you NEED to memorize all the muscles and bones, of course, but understanding and gaining at least a passive familiarity with the concepts really helps.
In tandem with this concept is the way parts of the body flow into eachother. Muscles ALWAYS come in groups because they can only contract. Whatever muscle is there to lift something, there is a muscle on the other side to pull that bone back down. What this results in is a series of straight edges next to curves, which gives us a lot of really lovely "s curves" and dents and folds and so on and so forth just naturally occurring.
I would suggest at least learning the "bony landmarks", which are bones (usually) visible on the surface of the body. things like the iliac crest, the great trochanter, the 7th vertabrae, the acromion process... These can be used to help you understand the parts of the body as angles and relationships, rather than trying to remember lengths and sizes, which vary immensely... (since you asked about steve, he can be our model... also study these on your own don't just take my word for it haha, these are the ones I personally keep in mind)
I've done the same thing with body hair... learning where it grows and in which directions... It helps me make up variations without needing reference, because I have a set of rules I can follow.
The biggest thing that helped me understand all this on a much deeper level was my ecorche course. I sculpted this guy. We started by sculpting the entire skeleton to understand the bones, and then we added muscles on top. Not every single muscle, of course, but the "artistic muscles" AKA the ones which directly affect the surface of the body. Doing this let us see where muscles connect, because we would make a shape, put it on the bone where it actually goes, and then you get to see how other muscles overlap that.
This helped me, perhaps, more than anything else. But I also didn't just start with this course, I had been drawing for years before I even took it. I had been in school for years before I took it. Not that I think it wouldn't be helpful to someone just starting out, but I do think that the more you know going in, the better an in-depth course like this will help you and stick with you. Classes are also expensive, though so I'm not really like... recommending you pay potentially thousands of dollars to take one... But it did help me a lot, personally.
I also, of course, have done many figure, gesture, and master studies...
These just help you quickly gain a stronger understanding of generalized anatomy, and gives you real life examples of and practice with of how people move and balance.
What all this does when combined, is gives me a very solid ability to depict movement and form in a way that feels relatively natural from my subconscious without the need for reference.
The rest of how I've learned to draw his physique is honestly mostly just stylization. I understand the body, and this is how I am depicting it for his level of musculature.
And as I move into depicting him in other ways, either moving in comics or in animation, realistically rendered, or extra stylized, these concepts inform every step of that process for me! When he keeps the same/similar relationships between parts, he gets to still look like himself.
It ALSO really helps when putting clothes on, because the way cloth falls and bunches and lifts is all directly related to the form it is on... So the more you understand that form, the more you can depict clothing and movement in a way that feels natural.
This is all, of course, true when I draw anyone, you asked about Steve so I'm trying to mostly show with him! But because I'm just drawing from raw information of general anatomy rather than trying to study one body type at a time, it allows a lot more "give," I think!
Like, here's most of the cast from TTA so far... actually, they're not as varied as I thought they were nevermind LMAO ignore this part
But, it also makes monster and alien design much easier! It's a lot easier to come up with non-human anatomy when I understand human anatomy, because I can manipulate the knowledge I have...
There is infinite more to study in the world of anatomy... The complexity of the human body goes extremely deep. For our purposes as artists, we need only depict a fraction of it, but more information rarely hurts the process.
I'm sure there's something in here that's wrong on a technical level, I'm mostly going off of memory. But that's kind of my point - I understand enough generally and conceptually that when I am missing something and need to find reference for it, I understand what I'm looking at. It's much easier than trying to learn AND draw at the same time.
I hope even one thing in here helped you! Sorry it's so long.
#asks#somewhereinasgard#anatomy#art tips#anatomy tips#don't like... take my word as gospel OF COURSE#I am sure there's like one thing or more in here that's like. genuinely wrong#but whatever#anyways. I love steve LMFAO#I was thinking about zagan a lot too in this one tbh LMAOOOO cause he's got a similar body type#and when I just did that action animation of him#and people were like how the fuck did you do this so fast#I sort of have been realizing all this knowledge I have about anatomy#and how much easier it makes my life pretty much every single step of the way.#those action poses did not need reference.#I almost never need reference for drawing people#unless its like... realism. but I mean in my comics or animations#when the arm is coming towards the camera I know what's going on in the arm and what the form of it ACTUALLY is so I can properly draw it#there's no guesswork. I know what I'm doing.#which makes it so that when I'm depicting someone like flipping all around or whatever#I just know what the body looks like. how it moves. how it balances. etc.#I would say it comes naturally to me but it doesnt.#it is subconscious at this point#but it is very extremely studied#not a damn bit of this came out of nowhere LOL#ok anyways this was a really fun ask#I got extremely carried away I am so sorry#this is like my biggest artistic passion I LOVE anatomy SO much#I love drawing muscles#I love the technical feelings that happens in my brain when I draw an arm moving and figure out how the muscles are engaged

#I really don't know how to word this but#I've been getting bombarded with Maas(sp??) content whenever I scroll away from my lovely curated tumblr dash#which has increased the frequency of one of my personal least favorite things to come out of fast fashion publishing#and that is people listing 'the pregnancy trope' or 'accidental pregnancy' as one of their 'icks'#(I hated typing all of those words in succession lol)#I suppose it makes sense since the books these same people love are â¨spicy⨠(*cough*porn*cough*)#and I know it's not a radical revelation I'm having here but I am tired#the idea that pregnancy is a trope. that we can have the spice without the pregnancy. it's not a surprise. it's stories imitating life.#and yeah I can sympathize with a main character getting pregnant and promptly getting shoved out of the main plot line#but I personally want more stories of mothers going on adventures so that's as far as my sympathy extends#(I am also starting to get tired of the apparently well-intentioned women who are retaliating by advertising their books as 'without spice'#(for the love of everything holy and true and beautiful can we just. say what the book is about? can it have a plot?)#this is why I never pick up new fiction unless my girls on tumblr tell me it's good lol#shout-out to the moots vetting Emily Wilde for meeee#(I'm stuck on the second book because my brain doesn't want to read lately)#(but it's good. I'm just slow)

Hello again hon it's me the christmas anon, I hope your doing well and your feeling okay, I saw your gum and tooth post and hope that's not anything serious you know? As for me I'm doing alright....theses last two days has been heavy on my mind but I think sooner or later I'll be okay.
*leans over and kisses your head*
Better be taking good care of yourself too lol
-âď¸âď¸
Hey hon!!!! 𼳠Iâm doing as well as I usually do. I 𼺠have a blister or something on the gum that connects the teeth to the chin. You know that little spot directly at the front center of your mouth that feels like a thin web yeah itâs tucked there and eating is a nightmare đ if it doesnât go away soon I mean Iâm not gonna do anything special I have to just wait till my dental appointment. So boooooo but at least Iâll be okay eventually, as will you!!! Life is like a tooth infection, you ache, and you feel it everywhere, but then you consume a nice little pill and itâll make you feel better. đ¤ hmm thatâs a horrible analogy.
But no, actually I do hope youâre okay đĽşâĽď¸đŠˇ life can suuuuuuck and days can be awful and heck even a week or more can be stressful a time but whatâs cool about being alive is that??? It doesnât have to be so bad! You can be nice to yourself! You can surround yourself with people who are nice to you!!! And you can just say fuck it!!!! And walks outside and make it different. Running away to disappear into the woods dropping all socials and becoming some towns local cryptid is a perfectly viable option. I think Iâd like to live in the woods as a witch but Iâm đ a BIG baby when it comes to bugs. I wouldnât survive in the wilderness for even an hour. Iâm a delicate plastic flower. But no really, I say for the third time, youâll be okay eventually. When I think about life I think back to how when I was little girl playing games like Homer Simpson Hit and Run. I always wanted to walk around the map and enter every building. And I knew that wasnât possible. Thereâs nothing in them because why would the developers make that when they donât have to? Well weâre real!!!
We can enter any building, go to any location, dig into the very ground we stand on and I think thatâs kind of cool. Thereâs so much to life that we donât think about and maybe sometimes we should be a bit more curious about whatâs inside 𼳠treat yourself like a video game building. What can you find inside of yourself that makes you excited to take a peek. Idk!!! I hope that made sense!!!! Itâs so happy to see you âĽď¸đŠˇ
#Iâm patting your face gently in between my hands!!!#things will get better! and if theyâre not live begin them out of spite#thatâs what I tell my best friend#the world wants you to suffer and Iâm đ¤ gonna fist fight the world#I GUESS Iâll do myself a favor and go take an â¨ibuprofenâ¨#but in return you gotta do something nice for yourself as well đŤ or Iâm coming for you#donât be fooled by all this pink and hearts I will aim the gun and shoot with tears in my eyes⌠and maybe a little giggle because you canât#take life too seriously đ¤ joy and whimsy and what not#tbh Iâm at a loss for the emojis I keep saying âah yes snow coffee my favoriteâ#now I want coffee#I like to make it and then freeze it and eat it with a spoon#caramel and whipped cream if we have any 𼳠the only issue is I ALWAYS FORGET I PUT IT IM THE FREEZER#then itâs 1 am Iâm in bed and I sit up like MY COFFEE#then I go âIâll drink it tomorrow. but then I đĽşđĽşđĽşđĽş forget again and if I donât Iâll let it defrost but then I FORGET I am defrosting it đđ#THEN I PUT IT BACK IN THE FREEZER like an idiot AND THE CYCLE CAN GO FOR A FEW DAYS#I have such a bad SIGH memory itâs ridiculous but whatever a few day old coffees never made me sick#we wonât talk about the tummy pains#anyways I hope my ranting was able to distract you from your pain đŠˇâĽď¸ Iâm always here to blab if you need me#mys mail đ#thereâs so many words in my head and yeah I still choose to say things like âthatâs happy!!!â to describe something nice#me to you: thatâs very happy!#MUAH MUAH#if you see a typo just know I was typing fast and we should just ignore my mistakes 𼰠Iâm perfect

i hate knowing that i would be so fucking good at and have so much fun with GTA RP while also being physically incapable of even trying it out.
#krav talks#god is keeping me from doing GTA RP bcus they know it would completely take over my life and all i would do every single day is GTA RP#just watching it scratches an itch in my brain i can only imagine what actively participating would feel like#i just hope that when im finally physically capable of it its not like. completely dead and gone.#and also i mean. i could just. make a mute character. thats the main problem#but also that would limit my RP abilities so much#even tho i can type super fast typing does make me overthink myself#vs just talking in improv forces me to come up with something quickly and flows better#the one thing that ive always hated about RPG-types like fallout or sims or the like is that after the first playthru it gets sooo boring#bcus everything becomes so predictable#and mmos ive never liked bcus its so strange and uncomfortable to just see all these ppl around but have no immersive way to interact#but GTA RP and especially nopixel is like. EXACTLY what ive been looking for my whole life#i was obsessed with darkrp gmod servers as a youngin and loved the mix of practical mechanics with roleplaying#ive never been able to do tabletop rpgs bcus of my struggle with audio processing#and ttrpgs are literally 90% listening to someone explain whats happening#vs. roleplaying in multiplayer video games which just let me SEE whats goin on so i'd just have to ask ppl to repeat what they said#rather than asking a game master to repeat what they just said but theyve spent the past 5 minutes explaining the situation in detail

Pairings: PornStar!Bucky Barnes x f!Reader Themes: Sexual Innuendo/humour,Guy next door, situational comedy? If you're not up for a few second-hand embarrassment sit this one out lol. Summary: Your coworker peer pressured you to look up SergeantBarnes in Pornhub, reason? Because apparently you're missing out. A/N: This would make a good mini series. . .but we'll see. I had a dream. . .that he was a guy next door, just wanted to-of course-add a twist to it asdfghjkl.
It was all Amyâs fault. And Trishâs. And okay, maybe you shared a little bit of the blame for caving to the intense peer pressure at work. But still.
Youâd been minding your own business in the break room, scrolling through lunch menus, when Amy had sidled up, leaned in with that conspiratorial look on her face, and whispered, âHave you seen him yet?â
âSeen who?â your eyebrows creased as you asked, confused.
Trish popped up out of nowhere, clutching her latte in her hand. âGirl, SeargentBarnes. The guy is legendaryâI mean, a literal internet icon.â
You shrugged, feigning indifference while they exchanged a look that practically screamed, amateur. They started talking all at once, dropping cryptic phrases like âtoo hot to handle,â âyouâre gonna die,â and, âyouâll never look at men the same way again.â
So there you were that night, alone with your laptop, curled up in bed and biting your lip as you debated whether to type it in. Itâs just curiosity, you reasoned. Research purposes.
Your eyes widened as the screen filled with⌠well, humanity, in all its naked, unfiltered glory. Your face heated up so fast you couldâve sworn it was the same shade as your throw pillow. Videos lined up like some weird buffet, titles more scandalous than anything youâd ever whispered in confession, and⌠was that a whole category devoted to delivery men? You slapped a hand over your mouth to stop from yelping, mortified at the intensity of it all.Â
âI need to go to church after this,â you muttered, squinting like that would somehow censor the thorough dedication people were showing in their, uh, procreation endeavors.
âSergeantBarnes,â you muttered to yourself as you typed, fingers hovering uncertainly over the Enter key. Then, with a sigh, you hit search, and⌠oh.
You nearly choked on oxygen. Because there he was, in HD glory, right on Pornhub, with that cocky grin and those blue eyes that looked like theyâd been crafted in a lab. And he wasnât just standing there looking smugâoh, no, he was on a mission, shirtless, flexing, and smirking at the camera like he was the worldâs best-kept secret. The scene panned to him sitting on the edge of a bed, peeling off his belt with one hand, a glint in his eyes that seemed to say, this is what you came for.
âOh my god,â you muttered, equal parts horrified and morbidly fascinated, as he proceeded to⌠well, get very familiar with his costar. SergeantBarnes was apparently an expert at multitasking, using every muscle, every inch of his well-equipped arsenal. And the way he was delivering lines? He was clearly treating the camera like it was his soulmate.
By minute two, your jaw had dropped. By minute five, youâd set the laptop on your nightstand to âwatch responsibly.â By minute ten, you were convinced Amy and Trish had permanently ruined your life.
And the costarâshe was practically putting on an Oscar-worthy performance, her reactions so intense you half expected her to start speaking in tongues. Every time SergeantBarnesâs⌠rod of justice plunges deep inside, she gasps like she was witnessing a miracle. You scoffed, rolling your eyes. Come on, is that really necessary?
As you watched, he gave a low, rumbling soundâhalf growl, half sighâthat sent an involuntary shiver down your spine. His gaze burned through the screen with a confidence that was practically magnetic, and suddenly, you understood exactly why the costar was gasping. A new, unbidden heat pooled between your legs, making you shift uncomfortably, instinctively pressing your thighs together as if that could somehow stop the flush creeping up your face. Oh no, now I wish I were her, you thought, immediately cringing at yourself.
With a mix of half-laughter and half-horror, you reached over and slammed the laptop shut so fast it was like you were trying to save yourself from spontaneous combustion.Â
âHolyâoh, wow,â you whispered, pressing a hand to your face. âOkay. That was a one-time thing.â
Or so you thought.
Except now, every time you even glanced at your laptop, SergeantBarnes was right there in your mind, reminding you exactly why he was internet-famous. It was becoming a bit of a problem.
Ă Ă Ă Ă
The next morning, you stumbled out of your apartment, looking like something that had been left out in the rain and dragged through a blender, mentally cursing last nightâs âresearchâ session. The world had no right to be this bright, and your regret levels were at an all-time high as you lugged the worldâs heaviest box down the hallway.
You were so absorbed in avoiding a complete breakdown that you barely registered the deep, too-familiar voice beside you.
âNeed help with that?â
âThanks, but I got it,â you muttered automatically, barely sparing him a glance.
Except...then you did.
You looked up, squinting in confusion. Because, standing in front of you, in the perfectly mundane hallway of your perfectly mundane building, was him.
You froze, your brain spinning like a buffering screen. Okay, this guyâs insanely handsome. Tall, broad-shouldered, stubbled jaw, eyes so blue they should have a health warning on them. You stared, mentally cataloging each feature, whenâwait a minute... WAIT. A. MINUTE.
Your eyes narrowed, suspicion prickling as your brain finally fired up. Is thatâŚ? No, it canât be.
But it was. Oh, it absolutely was.Â
SergeantBarnes, the very star of last nightâs âeducationalâ viewing, right here in the flesh. And suddenly, like a tractor beam had locked onto you, your gaze dropped right to his crotch, where youâd witnessed things you could never un-see.
This, of course, did not go unnoticed. His brows shot up as he followed your very obvious, very treacherous line of sight, glancing down at his jeans before looking back up at you with an infuriatingly smug grin.
âUh⌠nice shoes?â you blurted out, your face feeling like it was on fire. You vaguely gestured to his boots, wishing you could vanish right into the walls.
âThanks,â he replied smoothly, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. âTheyâre pretty sturdy. But, you knowâŚâ He paused, his voice dropping just a hair. âI donât think theyâre what you were looking at.â
Your heart sank as you forced yourself to look up, his amused blue eyes practically laughing at you. Abort. Abort mission. Oh God, we are way past mission failure.
âUhâno, I just⌠umâŚâ You floundered, desperately trying to think of something, anything, that might save you from the hole youâd dug. But no words came. Not even the faintest semblance of a coherent thought. Just one long, silent scream echoing in your brain.
âBucky,â he offered helpfully, sticking out his hand like he wasnât SergeantBarnes from Pornhub, but just some guy offering to help with a box. âNew neighbor, by the way.â
You stared at his hand like it was a booby trap, your brain short-circuiting as it reminded you exactly where those fingers had been. That hand had gripped⌠things. It had been places youâd only dreamed of, doing things youâd probably need a core workout just to survive. You could practically see the âviewer discretion advisedâ warning flashing in your head as you hesitated, still staring at his hand as if it might explode.
But, against your better judgmentâand every shred of dignityâyou slowly reached out and shook it, feeling your own fingers betray you by sweating as they made contact with his very⌠experienced ones.
âUh⌠hi⌠Iâm⌠yep.â you blurted, mentally cringing.
ââYepâ? Thatâs a good name,â he said, smirking as he let go. âYou sure you donât need help? You seem⌠a little flustered.â
Flustered? Understatement of the century. If your dignity had been a cup, it was empty, bone-dry, and cracked. You forced yourself to focus, eyes straight forward, pointedly ignoring the very tempting crotch-level view.Â
âIâm fine! Totally fine!â you squeaked, cringing at your own voice. Oh God, calm down!
But he just chuckled, that same dangerously cocky smile from last night plastered all over his face. âAlright, Yep. Guess Iâll see you around.â
As he turned to leave, you stood there in the hallway, clutching the box like it was a life raft, heart racing a mile a minute. Youâd just had a very public staring incident with SergeantBarnes, your new neighbor, and all youâd managed to say was nice shoes.
Iâm gonna need new coworkers, you thought, practically burying your face in the box as you scurried to your apartment.
The door slammed shut with a bang that could probably be heard across state lines. You dropped the box unceremoniously, ignoring the loud thunk as it hit the floor, and whipped your phone out, fingers flying across the screen like you were composing a manifesto.
Guys, youâre NEVER gonna guess who my neighbor isâ
You paused, staring at the screen as the rest of the text formed in your mind: THE SergeantBarnes. LIVE. IN. THE. FLESH.
But then another thought stopped you dead in your tracks. Oh no.
You could already picture it: Amy and Trish showing up like rabid fangirls in their âI Heart SergeantBarnesâ merch, carrying suspiciously flimsy plates of brownies. Trish would have binoculars. Amy would be taking notes, probably trying to âaccidentallyâ leave her phone number under his door. You shuddered, imagining them cornering him by the mailboxes, all of them acting like they were definitely not the type of women who had his entire catalog bookmarked on their phones.
A horrible realization hit you. If I tell them, this manâs gonna be living a nightmare right next door to me. Not just a nightmare, a Trish-and-Amy-sponsored fan club nightmare, where they might even break into songâprobably chanting, âSergeantBarnes! SergeantBarnes!â while he tries to get his groceries.
You looked back at your unsent message and deleted it in one go, feeling weirdly proud of yourself. Yeah, no. Iâm not letting them anywhere near him.
Totally altruistic, of course. It had nothing to do with keeping the eye candy to yourself.
You took a deep breath, looking around your empty apartment like you were expecting the FBI to burst through the door at any second. Sure, youâd just been in the hallway with the actual SergeantBarnes, but maybe⌠maybe you were imagining things. It had been a long day. Moving was stressful. Stranger things had happened, right?
With a surge of resolve (and denial), you dashed to your bedroom, practically sliding across the floor as you went. Your laptop was waiting innocently on the nightstand, and with a quick glance over your shoulder to ensure you were still alone, you opened it up, clicked incognito mode like you were hiding state secrets, and went straight to the website youâd sworn off only hours ago.
âAlright⌠just to confirm,â you muttered to yourself, feeling your cheeks burn as you typed SergeantBarnes into the search bar, mentally bracing yourself for the flood of results.
And there he was. The whole page filled with him, in various⌠positions. You swallowed, scrolling until one video caught your eye: âSergeant Disciplines the Bratty Recruit.â
You snorted, almost slamming the laptop shut. âOh, for heavenâs sakeâŚâ
But curiosity was a dangerous beast, and before you could talk yourself out of it, your finger had already clicked play.
The video started, with SergeantBarnes in all his glory, wearing what looked like the worldâs tightest military uniform. His face was as smug as ever, that telltale glint of mischief in his eyes as he muttered something absurd like, âThink you can handle me, recruit?â
âOh my god,â you whispered, cringing as you half-covered your eyes but peeked through your fingers anyway.
But there was no denying itâthe face, the voice, the ridiculous, smoldering look into the camera. There was no escaping it now. It was 100% him. The same guy who was now living approximately ten feet away from your own front door.
As the video continued, your disbelief only grew. This man⌠this man is next door, could eating cereal right now, you thought, torn between horrified fascination and the urge to laugh. Because there he was, in full âdisciplinary actionâ mode, doing things you could barely process, and here you were, watching it again, just to make sure it was really him.
âOh, Iâm doomed,â you muttered, slapping the laptop shut. You werenât even sure if you were embarrassed, impressed, or maybe just a little terrified of your own neighbor.
Ă Ă Ă Ă
Over the next few days, it was like living in a twisted sitcom. Everywhere you went, he was there, lurking like some kind of sexy, mildly inconvenient specter. It was uncanny. Youâd turn a corner, and bamâthere heâd be, giving you that polite nod and a smirk that clearly said, I know exactly what youâve seen.
It started small. Youâd step into the elevator, praying for a peaceful ride, and ding! in heâd stroll, flashing that devastating grin. Instantly, youâd stiffen, gluing yourself to the opposite wall, practically trying to meld with the buttons, heart pounding like you were about to pass out. You couldnât even look him in the eye without flashes of his, uh, âfilmographyâ playing in your mind. Every single time, without fail, you found yourself studying the very clean floor of the elevator as he leaned casually against the wall, the corners of his mouth tugging up.
âNice day, isnât it?â heâd ask, all smooth, innocent charm. Meanwhile, you were there like, Oh, totally, perfect day to run into my favorite Pornhub star.
You were in the laundry room, blissfully alone, humming to yourself as you separated your clothes like a responsible adult. Whites here, colors there, delicatesâwell, you were kind of just tossing them wherever at this point. Then, suddenly, you felt it: a shift in the air, a presence. You froze, the hair on the back of your neck standing up, a sock suspended mid-toss in your hand. Why do I feel like the music should be getting dramatic right about now?
Slowly, as if sensing his approach, you turned. And there he wasâBucky, striding in with a laundry basket filled with a suspiciously pristine pile of perfectly folded, incredibly manly clothing. It was as if heâd just stepped out of some kind of⌠laundry commercial. Or worse⌠one of his own videos.
You blinked, eyes widening as a thousand clichĂŠs suddenly flashed through your mind. Oh no, why does this feel like the start of a porn? you thought, biting your lip as you realized the two of you were, in fact, very alone, surrounded by washing machines and suspiciously warm lighting. You mentally kicked yourself. Snap out of it! This is laundry. Regular, boring laundry.
Bucky caught your eye, giving you an amused once-over. âDoing some laundry?â he asked, his voice low and casual, but somehow it felt like the most suggestive question in the world.
You opened your mouth, closed it, then opened it again. âUh-huh,â you managed, trying to sound like a normal human being. âJust, uh⌠laundry.â
Your face felt like it was on fire as you realized half of your load was underwear, strewn everywhere. Panties, bras, socksâthey were all there in their mismatched glory, practically screaming, Weâre personal items! Pay extra attention! You yanked your gaze away from the pile, mortified, and flung the sock into the washer like you were trying to disarm a bomb.
You slammed the washer lid down, feeling like youâd just revealed way too much. But Bucky only grinned, strolling over with that maddening swagger. He tossed a shirt into the washer beside you, leaning against it with a smirk.
âNice sorting skills,â he commented, eyes flicking down to the very obvious pile of bras and lace that youâd tried to hide. âVery⌠thorough.â
âYep!â you squeaked, feeling like you might explode. You fumbled with the detergent bottle, struggling to open it as your brain went into full-blown panic mode. Why does this feel like one of those videos? Donât look at him. Just donât look. Pretend youâre alone. Pretend this is fine.
But of course, he wasnât making it any easier. He folded his arms, watching you with a raised brow, the picture of calm while you were desperately trying to load underwear without dying of embarrassment.Â
âYou know,â he said, clearly holding back a laugh, âusually people try to separate colors from whites.â
âOh, I do! I mean, I⌠itâs a system,â you stammered, feeling like you were caught in a lie by the laundry police. âSometimes itâs⌠itâs an artistic choice.â
He chuckled, his eyes twinkling with that insufferable amusement. âArtistic laundry, huh? Didnât take you for the experimental type.â
âYep,â you said, forcing a laugh as you stuffed in the last sock, your hands moving at lightning speed, desperate to finish and escape.
But as you turned to leave, he held up a stray bra that had somehow escaped your grasp, dangling it between two fingers with a raised eyebrow.Â
âYou forgot this,â he said, voice dripping with that same mischievous humor.
You stared at the bra in horror, feeling your face go molten.Â
âUh⌠thanks,â you mumbled, practically ripping it out of his hand and stuffing it into the washer, slamming the lid down one last time before you spun on your heel and speed-walked out of there.
Behind you, you heard him chuckle softly, his voice echoing in the hallway. âSee you around, neighbor.â
Yep, you thought, already halfway down the hall, never doing laundry again.
By day three, it got ridiculous. Youâd ducked into the mailroom, hoping he was out doing normal human thingsâmaybe mowing a lawn or whatever. But no, as soon as you opened your mailbox, there he was, standing by his own, sorting through a stack of letters. You froze, briefly considering whether you could just flee and come back later for your electric bill.
And then⌠the grocery bag incident.
You were in the hallway, arms overloaded with bags because, naturally, youâd ignored the cart right by the entrance and had instead decided to carry it all in one go. You were so close to your door when you heard footsteps behind you.
âNeed help?â he asked, that voice making you nearly fumble every bag in your arms.
You turned, scrambling to say, âNo, Iâm good,â but of course, in your panic, one of your bags tipped, and a lone, horrifying item fell out and hit the floor. You watched, paralyzed, as the little bottle of lube rolled out with an audible clatter, spinning lazily to a stop right in front of him.
You could practically feel the heat exploding from your cheeks. No. Oh no. Not like this.
You looked up, meeting his amused, slightly raised eyebrows as his lips twitched, clearly fighting a smile.Â
âUh,â you choked out, unable to form a single coherent sentence. Think fast, make it sound normal, you told yourself, even though every possible explanation was racing out of your head.
He bent down, picking up the bottle with a glint of pure mischief in his eyes, inspecting it like heâd just found evidence of some grand crime.
âHey, everyoneâs got needs,â he said, deadpan, but that twinkle in his eye was anything but innocent. âDonât worry.â He tossed you a wink, handing the bottle back like it was no big deal.
Your mouth opened, then closed, then opened again as your brain scrambled to form a sentence. Finally, the words tumbled out like a train wreck, your dignity left somewhere back at the grocery store.
âItâs⌠itâs for my friend,â you squeaked, clutching the lube bottle with both hands like it was a sacred artifact. He raised an eyebrow, looking entirely too entertained for your liking. âSheâs, uh, sheâs constipated.â
A moment of silence.
âShe needs it to⌠you know, help with a suppository.â You forced a grin that you were sure looked more like a grimace. âShe, uh⌠canât get things moving. Really jammed up in there.â
Buckyâs face twisted in barely suppressed laughter, and his shoulders shook as he struggled to keep a straight face.Â
âRight,â he drawled, nodding with an expression that was one part pity and two parts are you for real? âThatâs⌠thoughtful of you.â
You felt like you were overheating, a human furnace on the verge of combustion.Â
âSheâs desperate!â you blurted, doubling down on your ridiculous story, even though every fiber of your being was screaming to stop talking. âIâm just being a good friend, you know? Supportive. I mean, sheâs the one whoâs backed up.â
He nodded again, still fighting a smile, the look in his eyes a mix of amusement and something else that made your pulse race.Â
âSure,â he said, ânothing like helping a friend in need.â He paused, that wicked smile growing as he added, âIn my experience, though, there are plenty of other uses for it.â
Your soul left your body.
He held out his hands in mock innocence, chuckling as your eyes widened to saucers.Â
âJust saying,â he winked. âVersatile stuff.âÂ
And with that, he turned, strolling down the hall with a casual wave, leaving you frozen and mortified, clutching the bottle to your chest like a lifeline.
âGotta⌠go,â you managed, voice barely a whisper, stumbling the last few steps to your door as you fumbled with the keys, practically falling inside.
The second the door shut behind you, you pressed your back against it, staring at the ceiling and whispering, âIâm never leaving my apartment again.â
Just as you were about to bury your face in your hands and live in the sweet, silent embrace of shame, your phone buzzed. You pulled it out, still reeling from the lube disaster, and saw a text from your friend, Clara.
Clara: Hey!! Did you get the lube?? Need it ASAP, things are⌠not moving over here, if you catch my drift.
You groaned, staring at the message, letting it sink in that yes, this entire disaster had been real.Â
You: Yes. Got it. Never speaking of this again.
Clara: Bless you, you lifesaver. My digestive system owes you a standing ovation.
You rolled your eyes, still red-faced. Clara had no idea youâd just had to explain the entire situation to your painfully attractive neighborâwho now likely thought you were a walking sitcom.
Ă Ă Ă Ă
It started subtlyâjust a little teasing, or so you thought. But it quickly spiraled into a game you could only describe as Bucky Barnes: Merciless TeasingâExtended Cut. Every time you crossed paths, he managed to twist the knife just a little deeper, making you sweat, stumble, and practically choke on your own words.
The first time it happened, you were hauling a huge box out of your car, trying to look capable and independent, when he strolled up beside you, leaning against the car with a smirk.
âYou act like Iâm a celebrity,â he said, eyebrow cocked. âEvery time you see me, you look ready to run.â
You fumbled, nearly dropping the box.Â
âNope! Iâm justâŚuh, busy!â you squeaked, scrambling to walk away at top speed, box clutched to your chest like a shield. But you caught his laugh as you rushed off, making you want to evaporate on the spot.
The next time, you were in the stairwell, headphones in, desperately trying to avoid any more awkward run-ins. Naturally, the moment you looked up, there he was, lounging at the landing like some kind of paid actor in a commercial. You froze mid-step as he raised a brow.
âLook at that,â he said, giving you the once-over, âyou look like youâve seen a ghost every time you see me. Is it something I did?â
You stammered, turning pink.Â
âNo! Just, uh⌠headphones! Music! Loud music!â you blurted, before speed-walking up the stairs, praying he didnât hear the Spice Girls song youâd been blasting. Behind you, his chuckle echoed up the stairwell like the final taunt of a villain.
But the absolute worst came at the coffee shop.
You were in line, looking at your phone, hoping you could just breeze in and out. The moment you placed your order and turned to leave, there he was, standing right behind you, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
âHey, neighbor,â he drawled, eyeing your coffee cup like it was some incriminating evidence. âFunny running into you here. Or⌠do you keep running into me?â
Your face flushed, and you tried to think of something clever, but it was like all your brain cells had gone on vacation.Â
âNope! Definitely just getting coffee! I donât even⌠live near here!â you babbled, immediately regretting everything.
âOh, interesting,â he replied, his grin widening. âBecause I could swear you live right next door. But hey, if you want to keep pretending you donât know me, Iâll go along with it.â He handed you your coffee with a wink. âSee you around⌠or not.â
But things took a turn for the mortifying when, one evening, you were pacing the hallway on the phone with Clara, trying to vent without actually collapsing in a pile of awkwardness.
âItâs him, Clara!â you hissed, oblivious to the fact that you were pacing right outside Buckyâs door. âIâm living next door to SergeantBarnes! Can you believe this? Iâve seen everything he has to offer! Iâve practically studied him!â
Clara was howling with laughter, but you were too wrapped up in your frustration to care.
âAnd he knows, Clara! He keeps showing up everywhere, saying stuff like, âYou seem nervousâ and âYou keep looking at me like you know something I donât.â I swear, heâs doing it on purpose!â You paused, sighing dramatically. âThe man is basically torturing me!â
âYeah?â Clara snorted. âAnd what are you gonna do about it?â
âNothing! Iâm gonna hide in my apartment forever! I mean, the guy isââ You froze mid-sentence, sensing a presence that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Please, for the love of all that is holy, no.
You slowly turned, and there he was. Bucky. Leaning against his door, arms crossed, looking like heâd just won the freaking lottery.
âOh⌠my godâŚâ you whispered, feeling your soul leave your body. He was watching you with an expression of pure, unfiltered amusement, one eyebrow quirked, lips pulled into that infuriating, knowing smirk.
âWell,â he said, voice laced with mischief. âThat makes one of us.â His eyes glinted with barely-contained laughter. âAnd here I thought you were just a fan of my boots.â
You could practically feel your brain cells going up in smoke.Â
âI⌠uh⌠well⌠IâŚâ you stammered, cheeks burning. âBoots⌠are great,â you managed, wanting to sink into the earth.
âYeah? Because I seem to remember you looking⌠elsewhere last time,â he teased, stepping a little closer, enjoying every second of your embarrassment.
âOh, no! Just⌠boots!â you squeaked, backing up, practically tripping over yourself. âI really should go⌠water my⌠uh⌠plants!â
He chuckled, savoring every second of your panic. âGood luck with that,â he said, throwing in one last wink as he slipped back into his apartment, leaving you in the hallway, feeling like youâd just gone through a slow-motion car crash.
Back in your apartment, you slid down the door, hands over your face as Claraâs laughter erupted over the phone.
âBoots?â she howled. âTHATâS what you went with? Boots?â
You groaned, banging your head back against the door. âShut up, Clara.â
Ă Ă Ă Ă
Determined to reclaim a shred of your dignity, you strode into the local coffee shop, praying for a quiet morning with zero embarrassing encounters. But, as if on cue, the universe had other plans.
There, right at the counter, was Bucky. He spotted you instantly, his face lighting up with that all-too-familiar grin that had haunted your dreams. There was no escape.
He waved you over, and before you could even think of pretending you hadnât seen him, he was calling out, âMorning, neighbor! Whatâs your coffee order again?â His voice was loud enough that half the shop turned to look.
âOh, um⌠itâsâŚâ you stammered, but heâd already waved to the barista.
âGot it covered,â he said, leaning casually against the counter, eyes twinkling with mischief. âIâve got a feeling you like it with extra cream.â
You choked on your own saliva, feeling your face turn crimson as he handed you the cup with a wink.Â
âUnless Iâm wrong?â he added with a smirk, feigning innocence.
âN-Nope, thatâs right!â you managed, grabbing the cup like it was a shield. âExtra cream⌠perfect.â
He chuckled, gesturing to an empty booth in the corner. âGreat. Then you wonât mind sitting down with me for breakfast.â
âOh no, really, I shouldââ
He raised an eyebrow. âWhat, got somewhere better to be?â
You froze, helplessly aware that the entire coffee shop was listening in. You managed a nervous laugh, mumbling, âWell⌠no, I guess notâŚâ
Before you knew it, you were sitting across from him, desperately trying to keep your eyes anywhere but his face, your cheeks burning as he sipped his coffee and watched you with a smug smile.
âSo,â he said, leaning forward, âwhatâs a girl like you doing watching a guy like me online, anyway?â
Your jaw dropped, coffee cup halfway to your mouth. âIâI wasnât watchingâIt was research!â you spluttered, already kicking yourself for falling right into his trap.
He chuckled, clearly reveling in your embarrassment.Â
âOh, sure, âresearch,ââ he said, nodding like he totally believed you. âI get it. You know, itâs important to be informed.â
You practically shrank into your seat, glancing around to see if anyone else had heard. âCould you not say that so loudly?â
He smirked, taking a long, deliberate sip of his coffee.Â
âRelax, Iâm just curious,â he said, leaning in close enough that you could smell his aftershave. âGotta say, itâs a little flattering to have a fan right next door.â
Your brain completely short-circuited. âFan? Iâno! I mean, not like that⌠I⌠I barely evenâŚâ You could feel the lie crumbling in your throat as his smirk deepened.
âUh-huh. Then why did you look like you were about to sprint every time you saw me?â He tilted his head, studying you, eyes twinkling. âAnd I swear you turned pink the second you walked in here.â
Your hands shot up, covering your cheeks. âI did not! Youâre imagining things.â
âAm I?â he said, leaning back with a satisfied grin. âBecause itâs like clockwork. Every time Iâm around, you look like youâve been caught red-handed. I donât mind, you know,â he added, shrugging nonchalantly. âIâve got nothing to hide.â
You let out a strangled laugh, ready to crawl under the table.Â
âThatâs⌠obvious,â you muttered, feeling as though you might combust at any second.
âOkay, so since weâre having breakfast together, how about you tell me: any favorite scenes?â He laughed, looking entirely too amused as he stirred his coffee.
You practically choked on your coffee, face flaming as you tried to hide behind your cup.Â
âIâI canât believe you just asked that!â you squeaked, horrified and unable to meet his gaze.
âOh, come on,â he grinned, clearly enjoying every second. âItâs just small talk. I mean, who better to ask than a neighbor?â
You groaned, burying your face in your hands. âCan we please pretend this conversation never happened?â
âNope. Canât do that,â he replied, laughing. âI think itâs a little late for that.â
Just as you were starting to pray for an earthquake to swallow you whole, you glanced up at him, cheeks still flaming.Â
âDid you⌠did you know I recognized you this whole time?â
He leaned back, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.Â
âOf course I did,â he said, laughing. âFigured it out the second I saw that look on your face. I just wanted to see if youâd ever bring it up.â
âOh my god,â you muttered, feeling mortification seep into your very bones. âAnd you kept messing with me?â
âOf course,â he said, raising an eyebrow with a wicked grin. âI was just waiting to see how long it would take for you to crack. Guess now the ice is broken, huh?â
You couldnât help but laugh, shaking your head. âYouâre the worst.â
He winked, finishing his coffee. âYeah, but I make breakfast interesting, donât I?â
You laughed, feeling the last traces of embarrassment fade awayâwell, at least enough to breathe normally again. But just as you started to feel almost⌠comfortable, Bucky tilted his head, giving you a curious look.
âSo, neighbor,â he said, smirking, âIâve gotta ask⌠whatâs your name?â
You blinked, realizing with a jolt that youâd never actually told him. In all your attempts to dodge, deflect, and survive the relentless teasing, you hadnât even bothered to introduce yourself.
âOh⌠right,â you mumbled, feeling your cheeks heat up again. âI, uh, guess I never actually said.â
âNope,â he replied, leaning in with a grin. âI just assumed you wanted to keep a little mystery between us.â
You rolled your eyes, though a smile tugged at your lips. âTrust me, Iâm not that mysterious.â
âReally?â he replied, eyebrows raised. âBecause all this time Iâve been calling you âYep.ââ
Your face went red as you remembered the first time youâd stammered a barely coherent âyepâ instead of an introduction. âOh my god. You havenât been calling me that in your head this whole time, have you?â
He shrugged, smirking. âItâs kind of cute. Suits you, actually.â
You groaned, but laughed despite yourself, finally holding out your hand across the table. âAlright. Iâm Y/N. Officially.â
âY/N,â he repeated, taking your hand, his grip warm and firm. His smirk softened into something a little more genuine. âGood to meet you, Y/N. Officially.â
His hand lingered in yours for a beat longer than necessary, and for a moment, there was no teasing, no innuendosâjust the two of you, sitting across the table, smiling like two normal people whoâd just met under⌠semi-normal circumstances.
Then, just as you were starting to think maybe, just maybe, you could get used to this weirdly charming neighbor situation, he leaned back, that mischievous glint creeping back into his eyes.
âNow that weâre on a first-name basis,â he said, winking, âyou can tell me all about your favorite scenes. You know, for professional feedback.â
You burst out laughing, face in your hands as he watched you with a triumphant grin. Yep, you thought, already regretting nothing and everything.

Iâm sure someoneâs already headcannoned this, but Bruce having pet names for the Batkids? Man, those are his babiesâyou can bet your ass he has pet names for them. He might not be the type of man to show much affection beyond a shoulder pat or the occasional forehead kiss, but heâs determined to parent the crap outta these orphans, and pet names are an easier medium to show that he cares.
Dick is both âchumâ and âsweetheartâ depending on the context. When Bruce is feeling playful and comfortable (the easy, âyour mine and Iâm just happy to be here with youâ kind of love), heâll stick with âchumâ and Dick absolutely loves it. But when Dickâs sick or has a nightmare or got injured during patrol? Itâs sweetheart. Itâs default mode for Bruce, because seeing Dick in pain brings up so many raw, intense emotions (Bruce gets scared, goddamit) that itâs easier for him to say âIâve got you, sweetheart, itâs okay, just keep your eyes on mine,â then it is to say âIâm so terrified that Iâm going to loose you, I love you, youâre my everything.â
Jason isâJaylad.â But itâs less of the name thatâs important and more of the story behind it that is. For the first few months that Jason was in Bruceâs care, Bruce didnât dare call him anything other then his name, in fear that heâd scare him away (he was already so distrusting, so hesitant, so fearful whenever Bruce talked to loud or moved to fast or got upset), but at the same time, heâd seen how pleased Dick had been at being called âchumâ and wanted to bestow a similar endearment on Jason. Butâhe didnât want to go to far. So instead of calling him âladâ like his own father had once called him, Bruce calls him âJaylad.â Itâs a little more impersonal, but it makes Jason more comfortable. (But when Bruce cradled his sonâs broken body he said âno, darling, not you, donât leave meââ because just how Dick is âsweetheart,â Jason has also always been âdarling.â)
For Tim⌠itâs more complicated. He shoved his way into Bruceâs life and heâs forever grateful, but it wasnât the same as it was with Jason and Dick. He sees Tim as his son, of course, but their relationship was built on the darkest, most despairing part of Bruceâs life. But even in that terrible season, Bruce would look over at Tim working on a case or cleaning his suit and say, âGood job, sport.â It doesnât happen often, but Tim is âsport.â
Cassandra is âlove.â Bruce has never said it to her, aloud, but he knows Cass can read him well enough to hear the unspoken endearment, to see how much he longs to protect her, bring her joy, fill her heart with all the love sheâs filled his with.
Steph is âduck.â And not necessarily because Bruce decided that it was, but because 9 times out of 10 he finds himself screaming, âRobin, get down!â because Stephanie will not for the love of God follow his orders, and end up right in the line of fire. To save time he eventually just started saying âDuck!â It keeps Steph from getting whacked to high heavens and saves Bruce (another) heart attack, but over the years itâs also become somewhat of a ritual to say âduckâ whenever Steph walks in the room. Bruce secretly wants to call her âduckyâ (which is what his mother called Kate), but heâs never worked up the nerve.
Duke is âkid.â By the time heâs in the family, Bruce has loosened up and lightened up, especially with everyday affection (which is to say, heâs not avoiding it like the plague). Heâs quick to say âGood job, kidâ whenever Duke had an accomplishment or ask âhow are you today, kiddo?â when they see each other in passing in the Batcave.
Damian, lastly, would never allow Bruce to call him anything other then his name. But every once in a while, Bruce can get away with saying âson.â And itâs the best thing in the world.

who to call to clean up after an "accident" than your sick and twisted military boyfriend? :D (dark!ghost x dark!fem!reader, 18+)
cw: dark!reader, dark!simon, horror movie vibes, graphic depictions of character death/murder, unhealthy relationship dynamics, one slip of daddy, smut, unprotected piv, simon "spit in my mouth" riley, reader and simon are kinda psycho :D
you've been so nice to her. really nice. you've let it slide off your back whenever she doesn't do her dishes. you pretend you don't notice when she borrows your shoes from the hallway and wears them out to dinner. you hide yourself in your room when she has her awful, loud guests over, and you have never once said anything about how she takes her sweet time in the shared bathroom in the morning and makes you late 2 days a week for work.
but this? this?
she needs to keep simon's name out of her fucking mouth.
"excuse me?" you say finally. your roommate is shrugging on her jacket to leave, her purse in her hand as she types on her phone, using it as a way to not make eye-contact with you. her long nails are tapping against the screen, and it feels like fucking drip water torture. "what the fuck did you just say?"
she sighs, irritated, rolling her eyes as she keeps tapping away at the screen.
"you're so dramatic, it was just a fucking joke."
"you know, i let a lot of things slide," you laugh, humorlessly, and you cross your arms over your chest as you follow her into the kitchen. "but you need to be careful what you say."
"i don't do anything except call it like i see it," she says, tossing her hair over her shoulder and looking at herself in the reflection of the mirror hanging on the wall. "you need to just...go out more. man like that isn't gonna stay for long if you don't give him something to go for. he's bored, you know. when you have him over here all the time. and i've totally caught him peeking at me after i shower, y'know."
"well why the fuck are you wearing nothing but a towel when my boyfriend is here, anyways?" you snap. "he's trying to be polite, he's a guest. what if i wore a fucking towel when you had your guy friends over?"
she laughs, poking at the edge of her lip to fix the gloss of her pout. "trust me, honey, no one's looking at you in a towel."
you step back, a little shocked. she rolls her eyes again, sighing.
"i didn't--"
"are you kidding me?" you retort. "you're the worst fucking roommate in the world, and i put up with all your bullshit, and now you're going to go so low as to insult the way i look just to make yourself feel better?" you make your way around the kitchen island. "you don't wash your fucking dishes, you steal my fucking clothes, you're always late on your rent so i have to spot you--"
"you know what, just because i'm fucking happy, and you're not, doesn't mean you have to take it out on me!"
"i am happy, you sorry bitch!" you cry. "i'm so fucking happy, you're the only thing in my life making me constantly miserable!"
"oh, shove it up your ass, you ungrateful little shit!" she snaps. "you're just so fucking insecure and hate me so badly just because simon would rather fuck a girl like me than have to spend another minute with--"
the crack of cast iron against her head shuts her up. it dents the side of her head easily, and her face smacks against the countertop before she crumples to the floor.
it's so fast. one minute, she's yapping, high-pitched voice straining your ears. the next, she's silent.
and she won't say simon's fucking name again.
you watch with bated breath as she folds into herself, her head hitting the hardwood last, a slow puddle of blood beginning to grow under the tendrils of her hair as your eyes move to the heavy pan you're still holding in your hands.
fuck, that's a lot of blood. god, you thought she was just full of fucking air.
you drop the pan once the rush of anger leaves your chest. it thunks onto the ground, and your hands shake as you see the specks of blood that are on the back of your hands, sprinkled over the shirt you wear. it stains your bare legs, even your toes, and you don't even want to look at the spray of it along the counters.
you should be crying, you think. you should feel bad. you're trembling a little, but you think it's just the adrenaline beginning to fade and not the guilt you know is supposed to be racking your insides.
you turn your eyes back to her. her eyes are dull. she doesn't move. it's so quiet now, utterly silent, and you take a deep breath as you take in the silence that you've craved for a long while now. you make your way quietly out of the kitchen, stepping over her body before going for your phone that sits on the coffee table in front of the couch.
you keep your eyes on her as you put your phone to your ear. it rings, and you tilt your head to the side as the blood begins to spiderweb under the kitchen table.
"'ello?"
you blink, looking towards the door. you clutch your phone a little tighter to your ear.
"simon?" you say softly. "a-are...are you busy?"
he hums lowly, chuckling, "no' at the moment, swee'eart, why?" he asks. "mmm...missed y'r voice..." you close your eyes as you hear the buckle of his belt. you try not to picture your giant of a boyfriend leaning back on his worn couch and shoving his jeans low enough to fuck his fist. "tolk t'me, luv...tell me 'ow much ya miss daddy."
you clear your throat gently, willing yourself to ignore the soft squelch of what you know is his hand around his cock, to not let it distract you from what's more important. "uhm...i liked the flowers you gave me, simon. t-they were beautiful."
the sounds on the other end of the phone quiet. you hear shuffling, and then a few moments later, the clink of his car keys.
"tha' right, baby?" he asks, and you close your eyes as you hear the front door of his flat opening. he's already on the way, already coming.
"yeah," you sniffle. "really nice sunflowers."
a yellow flower. he huffs on the other end of the phone, breathing a little easier.
"good girl," he murmurs, and then the line cuts. you set the phone down, making your way back to the kitchen and taking a seat at the table. you watch as the blood continues to curl over the floor. you make no attempt to help her; you just swing your feet under you as you look at her spoiled outfit, just grateful she isn't wearing your shoes or one of your jackets. you would hate to have to throw something out that she got all dirty.
there's a curt knock at the door ten minutes later, and then it opens. simon shuts the door behind him, cracking his neck by moving it from side to side before narrowing his eyes at you. you bite your lip, blinking, forgetting suddenly why he is here when he looks so fucking good. he's got a sweatshirt on under his windbreaker, worn jeans tucked into his boots; you like these jeans, his ass looks incredible in them.
"wot happened?" he asks. you stand, remembering your place. your lip starts trembling, and simon's eyes soften just a little. he's wearing his balaclava, hood up over his head and jacket zipped up, shadowing any true expression on his face. his gait sounds heavy as he lets his hands out of his pockets, coming towards you. when he steps into the kitchen, his eyes dart towards your roommate who's still on the floor, laid out unnaturally just by the oven.
he lets out a low breath, clicking his tongue under the mask. you hold your breath as you wait for his reaction.
"bloody hell," simon mutters, reaching up and throwing his hood off. you wring your hands together nervously, your eyes beginning to sting with tears. you brace for the accusations, for the inevitable terror of facing the music. simon is military, for fuck's sake, why the fuck did you think turning to him would be a good idea?
"i...i-i--" you start, looking up at him, and he holds up a hand, taking the side of your face into his palm before smoothing a gloved thumb over your bottom lip. you blink in confusion, not understanding.
"'s olright, baby," he shushes you, shaking his head. "don't cry."
"simon, i--" you sputter a little, gripping his wrist gently. "i just--i couldn't do it anymore, she just--"
he pities you. maybe you can explain. maybe if you tell him a warped story of what happened, he can help you. he must know someone. he must have important friends, he must--
he uses his free hand to move his mask up over his nose, and you lean into him when he bends, kissing you warmly. your eyes flutter shut, and you shuffle closer as he kisses you sloppy, kisses you hot. you mewl as he slips his tongue into your mouth, licking over your teeth and humming low as he pulls away. his eyes are flashing.
mmm. love.
"hmm..." simon licks his lips, smiling a little. he looks over you, almost pensive, his eyes scanning over your face before he settles back on your eyes. it's tender, the way he looks at you. romantic. "let's get this off of ya."
he reaches for the large shirt you are wearing, pulling it up and over your head. he crumples it into a ball before tossing it on top of your roommate, nodding his head behind you.
it's then that you realize simon isn't going to do the noble thing. he isn't going to call the police. he isn't going to turn you in, make you explain, he seems uninterested in knowing what really happened. no, he already knows what happened. but that's not important.
his pretty, perfect girl got into a little trouble. and he's going to make this go away.
"go on, luv. take a nice shower, yeah?" simon turns you around and pushes on your back gently. you suck in a shaky breath when he fondles your ass, pulling on your panties gently. "mmm...take these off, too."
you slip your panties down your legs, handing them to him.
"they have blood on them, too?" you ask, wiping your face, and he chuckles lowly.
"nah," he shrugs, stuffing them into his back pocket after taking a little sniff. "these are just for me."
jesus fucking christ, there's really something wrong with him. there's something really, really wrong with him.
and something wrong with me.
simon looks you up and down, his eyes catching on your naked body for just a few moments before he nods his head again.
"go on," he tells you. "before i get distracted." you pause for a moment, tilting your head back a little as he reaches out and cups one of your breasts in his big hand. you bite your lip, swallowing back a heavy breath as he flicks his thumb over your nipple gently. "greatest tits 've ever seen," he mumbles, scrunching his nose under the mask before he lets you go. "yeah, go on, baby." it takes everything in you to walk away when you see him reach down with that same hand and grip his bulge through his jeans, adjusting himself as he turns back to the mess in the kitchen.
when you shut the bathroom door behind you, you hear shuffling in the living room. the coffee table scraping. the couch being pushed. the rustle of the rug you have there. he grunts a little, and you hear his boots track from the kitchen back to the living room.
you turn the water on hot. you decide to take a bath, not looking at yourself in the mirror as you sink into the tub and plug the drain. you make the water scalding, and it soothes your sore muscles as you rest your cheek against the edge of the tub and stare at the door.
you're not sure how long you stay there. long enough for the water to nearly slosh over the edge of the tub and for simon to swing the bathroom door open, seemingly done with his...tasks.
he's taken his sweatshirt off. just a black t-shirt tucked into jeans, and there's a slight pant to his breaths that tell you he's exerted some energy. you notice he has his gloves still on, but before he touches you, he takes them off and tosses them into the sink.
"move over," simon mutters, starting to undress. you look up at him as he undoes the button on his pants, shucking his shirt off and into the corner before dropping his jeans. the water swishes as you sit up, and you swallow hard when simon kicks his boots and pants off, his cock hanging heavy as his mask is the last to hit the floor.
fuck, he's so pretty.
he has no regard for his size. he simply steps into the tub behind you, taking a seat. he looks comically large in your small bathtub, and you squeak a little as the water spills over the edge of the bath and wets the floor. he hums as he feels the hot water on his back. you don't say anything as his hands start to turn the water a little red. you just look up, away, at him.
you shuffle between his legs, tucking yourself into his space. you can't help but look him up and down, admiring his naked physique. he's just hot. big arms, thick thighs, sunburnt tattoos and scars cutting across his face. he hasn't shaved today, so there's some stubble along his jaw, but your eyes focus a little too much on his girthy length, heavy as it sits on his stomach and leaks a little there. his fat stomach, all solid and pudgy, such a nice place for you to rest your hands.
"you did good today," simon says finally. you look at him, and he tilts his head to the side. his approval makes your chest warm. "callin' me like tha'. wot a good girl you are."
keeping quiet on the phone is what he doesn't add out loud.
you purse your lips, trying not to keen at the praise, but it's hard not to when he reaches over and slides his hand over your shoulder, thumbing at your jaw.
"i-i didn't...didn't know what to do," you admit, and he clicks his tongue, shaking his head. you didn't know what to do, so you called him. level-headed enough to not do something rash and call someone else, no, you called him.
"mmm...tha's wot i'm 'ere for, luv," simon soothes you. "made such a little mess..."
you close your eyes. it's sick. deranged. fuck, it feels nice.
why don't i feel anything?
"i know. i'm sorry."
"nothin' ta be sorry about."
you slump into his arms, resting your cheek on his solid chest. you can feel his cock pulsing against your tummy, and you adjust yourself in the water, straddling him as you rest your chin on his pecs and look up at him through watery eyes.
you aren't sad. no. not sad at all. simon has shown you what he will do for the you. the lengths he will go. what he'll forgive just to take care of you. he's so capable, so understanding.
sick. twisted. mine.
"then i'll just say thank you," you mumble, grinding your hips slowly. simon hums, a wicked smile coming over his scarred face. he licks over his bottom lip, big hands gripping you by the fat of your hips as you grip the edges of the tub for stability. "say thank you to my big, strong man for taking such good care of me..."
he chuckles, his eyes lowering, watching your tits sway as you fit your pussy over his length and grind down on him.
"tha' so, baby?"
you nod.
"mhm," you whine. "how can i thank you, my big boy? how can i show you how grateful i am for cleaning up after me, hmm?" you bend at the waist, kissing him wet and warm, and he hisses as you suck his tongue into your mouth. he tastes like cigarettes, and normally you would curse him for it, but right now it tastes so much like him, and you lick around his teeth trying to taste more of that sweet nicotine.
"fuck--such a naughty little girl..." he snickers, reaching down. you sigh when he slides his big palms over your ass, forcing you to grind slower, the tip of his cock sliding through your folds leisurely. you grip the edges of the tub tighter, pressing down to give you more leverage to grind down harder. "make such a mess, oll the time..." you gasp when he presses into you just enough, the tip breaching your entrance and forcing you to squeeze around him, your cunt trying to suck him in. "olways needin' me ta pick up afta ya..."
you giggle, sliding your hands up his chest, gripping his shoulders for leverage as you sink down onto him. he grits his teeth as you do, his eyes focused on the way his cock disappears inch by inch until you're seated down in his lap, his length kissing deep and twitching excitedly. he always feels like a teenager again whenever you fuck--like you're the first pretty girl to ever wet his cock.
you cup his cheeks finally, smoothing your thumbs under his eyes as you bring his gaze up to meet yours. you swallow hard, looking down at him.
"i-i love you, simon," you breathe. he stills underneath you, his jaw clenching as he frowns just a little. you come a little closer, nuzzling your nose against his, your thumb falling to trace the outline of his torn lip. "i should've said it a long time ago...i-i..."
"heart's beatin' out y'r chest, luv," he mutters lowly. "'s olright...'m not goin' anywhere."
it's so disgusting. you should be fucking ill. you should be scrambling to the toilet, your breakfast halfway up your throat. you should be crying, emotional, begging simon to tell the cops that it was all your fault, because it is. he should've come here and made you do the level-headed thing and confess your terrible crime.
he shouldn't be here, sitting underneath you in your tub, cock-deep inside of you after helping you commit murder and then fucking clean it all up.
"what did i do?" you gasp, sitting up. you move to get out of the tub, but simon growls, putting two firm hands on your ass and shoving you back down on his cock, making you cry. "w-what did i do? s-simon, why don't i feel bad, why am i not sorry--?!"
simon tsks, feigning comfort. he juts his bottom lip out into a pout, mocking your little cries.
"oh, luvvie, don't start cryin' now," he chuckles. "don't start pretending like y'care."
uhm...
"simon--"
"no one likes a liar."
you're still trying to pretend, and he knows this. you're still trying to act how someone normally would react. someone normal, someone who thinks rationally, would never have picked up the pan in the first place. and even if they had, they would've scrambled, cried, picked up the phone and confessed, called an ambulance as they tried to get her to start breathing again, put both hands on her chest and tried to get her wake up.
but you didn't. you watched, unnervingly calm, as she stained the hardwood with her blood. you watched as her eyes glassed over, lifeless, and you watched as her insides began to paint the floor in abstract shapes as you gave it time to spread. and not once during that time, or waiting for simon, did you think to help her.
you didn't want to help her. and you certainly didn't think she deserved to get back up. maybe she hadn't done anything quite harsh enough to deserve death in someone else's eyes. annoying, overbearing, rude.
but it's hard to feel bad when she talked about simon. when she called him by his name. when you've seen her let her towel slip when he's in her vicinity, trying to coax him into her room when you're looking away.
you should've taken one of the throwing knives that simon hides in his boot and thrown it at her then, just for that.
"we're cut from the same bloody cloth, baby," simon says, almost accusingly. you grip the edges of the tub, trying to stand again, but he cants his hips and fucks up into you, drawing a frenzied moan out of you. you reach for his shoulders as he does it again, his tongue darting out before he licks a fat stripe over your pebbled nipple. "'s olright. 's okay, luv. don't worry. don't hafta get y'r hands dirty, swee'eart, i've got it."
"but simon," you whine, but all he does is shake his head. you don't have to put on this morality act for him. you don't have to pretend that you are sorry for something that you had every right to do, you don't have to explain to him why you aren't feeling the way you should be feeling.
simon doesn't care about how you should feel. he only cares about how you actually feel.
"she was in y'r way," simon grunts. "always bein' a bloody brat." he fists your hair and brings your mouth to his, groaning as you tighten around his cock. "'ow many times did she fuck ya over, baby, hmm? 'ow many times did she steal y'r fuckin' things, come outta the loo wearin' nothin' but her fuckin' knickers, yeah? 'ow many times?"
you kiss him, frantic, digging your nails into his pecs and dragging them angrily.
yeah. fuck her. fuck what she did to me, fuck the way she behaved, fuck her stupid face and her stupid attitude and her stupid little games.
"called ya names..." he's hitting your sweet spot now, making you cry from pleasure. your pussy feels so hot, squeezing him because you know he's right, and the way he fucks this time makes you think he really knows what you are and knows exactly how to get you there. "wot a fuckin' twat. deserved every bit o' it, baby."
you meet his eyes, dark and cruel. he's still moving, still holding onto your hips and drawing out little whines, but it's different suddenly, it's more. you nod, understanding.
simon is terrible. no good. his head isn't in the right place, maybe it never has been. you wonder, briefly, if this is what he does when he's at work, if these are the things that he's used to. maybe simon has been in service too long--maybe he doesn't understand that you aren't at war here, that you can't just kill and clean up, that you aren't in the field.
"she deserved it," you whimper, and he grins, all teeth, all mean.
"tha's it."
"she was such a bitch."
"fuckin' right."
"she got what was coming for her."
"nnghhh--fuck, baby, gonna make me fuckin' cum, tolkin' like tha'," he hisses. you practically smack him as you grab onto his scarred face, gritting your teeth as you glare down at him. his lips part, and you spit in his mouth as he fucks up into you, thighs hitting your ass with a wet smack that makes your head spin.
"and i'll get rid of the next bitch that so much as looks your way, simon."
the kiss is searing. hot, blinding, white noise fills your ears as he cums with you, stuffing you full as he cums hard, a pained groan leaving him as he collapses against the porcelain tub with a harsh thud. you follow him, chasing after him, kissing him between heavy breaths as you don't make any effort to move off of him. when simon opens his eyes, he can't help but smile.
he's never seen his reflection without a mirror.

how dare you think it's romantic, leaving me safe and stranded
A/N: if i stared at this any longer it would never see the light of day...so here she is! this is the longest fic i've ever written and i'm kinda gagged about that but i really hope you like it and if you don't that's okay too this is just silly angsty brainrot anyways thanks for reading this my inbox is open if you wanna yap more summary: in which your kidnapping forces you and spencer to face the fallout following your recently ended relationship cw: angst, hurt/comfort, reader is kidnapped/held hostage, implications and mentions of SA to reader but nothing happens, cm type violence, ex!spencer, lowkey lovers to enemies back to lovers, cat adams, medical jargon, miscommunication trope, the bau team is family, afab!reader, pet names wc: 5.1k
Every case you and Spencer have been on has been insufferable for the rest of the team since your falling out, if it had to be given a name. Everyone always had to deal with your constant bickering and harsh words. It was the same in every case, a difference of opinions that led to incessant fighting between you two, Hotch would have to separate you both and use your joint intelligence separately for the sake of keeping everyone alive.
This last case was nothing different, a serial killer in Athens, Georgia who was religiously sacrificing young women in the name of a cult. Both of you fighting over what you believed the other to be wrong about in their part for solving the case. Spencer thought the unsub would have struck in a zone closer to his home, you assumed he was only going after women who resembled someone in his life. The real problem was that you were both wrong.
And it ended with you being held hostage.
It all happened so fast. You were in the car with Spencer and Rossi driving out to the unsubâs house to check for new evidence when you had stopped at a gas station about 15 miles out from the house to refuel. Rossi got out of the car to pump the gas, Spencer sat in the passenger seat, and you went inside to use the bathroom and grab a quick snack.
You quickly washed your hands after finishing in the bathroom and wiped your hands on your pants, still slightly damp as you turn the handle of the door. As youâre perusing the aisle looking for a snack, you can feel the presence of watchful eyes on you. Casually, you slowly look up and around at the source and clock a figure an aisle over with a cap turned downward blocking their face.Â
Your gut was sending flares up, telling you that danger was near. You nonchalantly walk over to the aisle heâs in, pretending to look at the nuts and dried fruits while attempting to get a look at his face. In a (maybe not so) bright idea, you think to knock a bag of nuts on the floor next to the lurkerâs feet in the hopes heâll bend down to pick it up for you.
With a push of your hand, the bag knocks off the shelf and onto the floor and you both bend down to pick it up.
âIâm so sorry about that,â you chuckle lightly, âIâm such a clutz.â
âNo problem at all, Missâ.â He stops talking all of a sudden, youâre unsure why. You follow his gaze to your left hip where your FBI credentials are peaking out.
Shit.
He draws a weapon faster than youâre able to react with getting your own out, and by the time yours is out the barrel of his is flush with your forehead.
âDrop it.â
You quickly recognize the man as your unsub, miles away from his hunting ground and about to stray from his victimology with you.
âCome on, up. Weâre going for a little ride.â He snarls, glancing outside at the black SUV with your colleagues. He grabs you by a hairful and drags you out the back door, shooting the gas station clerk before making the escape with you to his pickup truck. Youâre shoved against the car door, back facing him, as he place a zip tie on your wrists and opens the door to sit you in the back seat. The unsub gets in the driverâs seat and starts the car, glaring at you through the rear view mirror, âIâm gonna have fun with you, fed.â
Meanwhile, back in the car Rossi stands at the pump waiting for the tank to fill and Spencer remains in the car looking over the case details once more. He canât help but feel something is wrong, but canât place his finger on it. He looks over the details again meticulously, searching for a fault anywhere in your, or even his own logic. Rossi closes the tank and hops back in the car, âSheâs not back yet?â he pondered.
Spencer hadnât even realized you werenât back yet, âI guess not,â something wasnât right, âShe went ten minutes ago right?â
Rossi nods, opening his mouth to speak when a gunshot coming from the gas station cuts him off. The men look at each other, eyes widened and rush out of the car, weapons drawn.
âFBI!â Rossi enters, looking for any sign of you but coming up empty. Spencer takes note of the disheveled store, produce and cans lying astray. He steps around the mess to find an out of place bag of sour gummy worms on the floor in the middle of an aisle only filled with nuts and dried fruit.Â
Sour gummy worms were your favorite.
A sinking feeling settles in Spencer as he tries to fight the reality his brain is trying to tell him. He looks to Rossi with a pained expression, and Rossi matches it back.
âHe took her.â
___
The next few hours are a blur for Spencer.
Rossi called the team to meet them at the gas station, already telling Garcia to hack into the security cameras to find any clue of where heâd taken you. Emily and Derek were checking out the crime scene, Hotch and Rossi talking to the sheriff. JJ finds Spencer staring off onto the one road connected to the station.
âWeâre gonna find her, Spence.â
He whips his head up at the sound of her voice, âI shouldâve realized sooner. I knew there was something off about his MO, aâand I just couldnât place it. And now sheâs gone and itâs all my fault and I neverââ
âSpencer,â JJ interrupts softly, âYou couldnât have known. None of us did, even her.â
âI should have,â he laments, âAnd if sheâŚif something happens to her because I wasnât paying attentionâŚâ He trails off, too afraid of what his brain thinks is the ending of the sentence.
JJ offers him a sympathetic look, understanding the conflicting emotions, âWeâll find her, sheâs strong. You know that.â
He stares back at her hoping, praying, that sheâs right and youâre going to be okay. You have to be.
Heâs pulled out of his head by Morgan calling him and JJ over, telling Garcia on the phone to repeat her findings.
âOkay, I think I have a lead based on the security camera footage on the car he has and where itâs been last seen. Iâm sending the last known coordinates to your phones now.âÂ
An idea springs to him, âGarcia, can you also check the gas station records and see how much he filled his tank?â
The clacking sounds of her keyboard ring through the phone before she speaks again, âHe didnât fill a full tank, only like, fifteen miles worth of gas.â
Everyone looks up at each other in realization of what the new information means. You had to be close by. Morgan walks over to tell Hotch, who immediately talks to a state ranger about setting up a 15 mile radius around the gas station with monitored roadblocks, no entry or exit without inspection.Â
After Hotch finishes he walks back to Spencer and lays a hand on his shoulder, âGood job, Reid,â He nods back with a thin lipped smile and fiddles with his pen anxiously, âAre you okay?â. Spencer canât tell if heâs genuinely asking him or if heâs asking him for the sake of him being able to do his job properly considering the circumstances. Ever the profiler that man is, he thinks. He nods again nonetheless and walks over to meet Derek at the car.
Spencer and Derek get into the car and set the route for the coordinates Garcia gave, ETA 14 minutes. He swallows nervously, do you even have 14 minutes? What if heâs too late? What if youâre not even there? What if he never got to tell youâ
âReid. Are you even listening?â
âWhat?â
Derek raises his eyebrows as he glances at his friend, âGot something on your mind?â
âNothing.â
âYouâre a shit liar, man.â
âIâm not lying.â Even he doesnât believe himself.
âSpencerââ
âIâm just worried! Okay? Weâre all worried, itâs not a big deal.â he snaps.
Derek stops at a red light and looks over the console, âIâm going to ignore whatever that was,â guilt sweeps over Spencerâs face as he continues, âIâm not stupid kid, I know how youâre feeling. But you canât let whatever turmoil you got in that big brain of yours affect this case. Not now.â
âI know that, Morgââ
âNo, you donât. I know youâre thinking about her, we all are. And we all wantâneedâher to be okay too. We will find her, but we canât let the unsub get away too.â
Spencer sighs outwardly seeing the truth in his words. As concerned as he was about you he needed to remember this was still an active case. He couldn't let your past with each other cloud his judgement, even if the fallout still haunts him every day of his life. He needs to save you, but he also has a job to do. He just wasnât sure if heâd remember that when they finally found you.
ââ
A pounding in your head stirs you awake, the bitter taste of metal flooding your senses as you come to. You blink a few times adjusting to the lowlights of the unfamiliar environment, hoping to find something distinguishable to ground you back to reality. It doesnât help once you realize the blood crusted over your eye is the reason for your obscured vision. You attempt to rub it off on your shoulder ignoring the sharp pains shooting up from the abrasive contact.Â
Once you think youâve cleared enough you blink a few more times registering your surroundings to be a house, a cabin more accurately. Your memory is a little fuzzy as you try to recount what happened before you were knocked out cold.
Gas station. Unsub. Unsub at the gas station? But where was IâŚI went to the bathroom⌠and was gettingâŚgummy worms?⌠But Rossi and Spencer were just outside⌠now Iâm hereâŚso does that means the unsubâ
âOh good, youâre awake.â
You jolt at the voiceâthe unsub youâve come to rememberâand you realize your hands are tied up behind your back, quickly coming to the second realization that you are rendered both injured and immobile.
âWhat do you want, Jason?â you say hoarsely after a minute.
He chuckles, âI didnât know they made them so pretty at the academyâŚâ he walks over and kneels in front of you, gripping your chin between his forefinger and thumb to move your head, âThey probably kept you around forâŚentertainment right?â
You whip your head, âDonât fucking touch me.â
âOh, youâre feisty. Thatâs good, keep it up. Makes this more fun.â he walks back over to the table and fiddles with something, you canât really tell from the floor, âSo howâd they make it work back inâwhat is it calledâQuantico! They take turns with you or? Thereâs so many of yâall, probably had a system.â
The pounding in your head makes it more difficult to process anything heâs saying, âThe hell are you talking about, take turns with what?â you ask, wincing through another wave of pain.
He turns around holding a metal rod and walks over, angling the rod under your chin to tilt your face up to meet his as he snarls, âI canât wait to see how it feels to fuck a federal whore.â
All the color drains from your face and you kick into whatever gas is left in your autopilot. Your feet are flailing in every direction, body thrashing violently to prevent Jason from getting a good grip on you. You quickly learn the purpose of the metal rod hearing the clang! first, a millisecond passing before the pain and threat of unconsciousness spreads through your brain.Â
The hit takes you out long enough for him to pin you down on the floor, the weight of his body landing on you before the metal rod goes for your limbs. Itâs then you realize the throes of death have wrangled you for what appears to be the last time, and itâs probably wise to start sayingâthinkingâ your final words.
To my parents, I love you. To Derek and Penelope, thank you for letting me third wheel with you. Emily, Iâll miss our weekend Sin City excursions. JJ, please give your boys the biggest hug from their favorite aunt. Rossi and Hotch, you always cared for me like I was your ownâI am so grateful for you.
And SpencerâŚOh, Spencer. How I hoped I would have the time to say Iâm sorry for what happened, I hope youâll forgive me in due time. I wish I told you that nothing about us ever changed for me. You were and will always be, My Spencer, I just wish I could tell you one more time how much I lovââ
âFBI, Drop your weapon!â
A clattering sound of something dropping rings directly next to your ear and the weight that was on you alleviates at the same time. You groan out and instinctively curl up on yourself, the pain spreading throughout your body. The sensory overload is so much you donât hear the approaching figure crouching next to you.
âHey Hey Hey,â Spencer stutters, quickly making work of the ties on your hands and holding you gently as he lays your head on his lap cradling you close, trying to hide the forming tears when he hears your whimpers of pain, âYouâre okay, itâs okay. The medicâs coming.â He looks back to where the unsub was and watches Derek put him in cuffs, nodding at Spencer before walking out with Jason.
ââŚSpencer?â you whisper out weakly. You think youâre dreaming honestly, that in the wake of death you learn heaven isnât a place but only his arms.
âYeah, honey, itâs me.â he chokes out looking back down at your bruised face. Heâs unsure how you still look angelic even when youâre hurt, but it doesnât surprise him that you do. You were always good at defying the laws of nature, he prayed it extended to your immortality.
âIt hurts.â you pout pathetically.
He brushes a strand of hair out of your eyes gently, âI know it does, honey I know. Iâm sorry, Iâm so sorry this happened. I shouldâve been there. Iâm sorry, baby.â he whispers tearfully.
You cough out and whimper in pain, âIâm sorry too.â
Spencer shakes his head vehemently, âNo, donât apologize. Donât do that, just keep your eyes open for me, okay? Iâm right here, I wonât leave you.â
The tiredness soon wins and your eyes flutter close. Before Spencer can even panic and beg you to open them again the medic finally comes and asks himâpulls himâ to move so they can start working on you.
He reluctantly backs up and watches on with glossed over eyes, barely registering all the things they were sticking in you to wake you up. The medics stabilize your neck with a C-SPINE and lift you onto the gurney, wheeling you back to the ambulance. The same medic who asked Spencer to move comes up to him again, âWeâre taking her to Georgetown Medical, youâre allowed to ride in the back with us if you want.â
You slowly come to again on the gurney and Spencer meets your open eyes before you even realize theyâre on you. Without hesitation he says, âYeah, Iâm coming.â
The medic team lifts your gurney inside the rig, and right before Spencer gets in he feels a hand on his shoulder. He turns around to find Hotch, âYouâll be okay?âÂ
Itâs a loaded question. Heâs not asking if Spencer is okay at this moment, because it doesnât take a profiler to see that heâs the farthest from it. He says it as a grounding reminder knowing how Spencer gets about you. It didnât matter to the team if you both fell out, the pair of you never faltered in your subconscious for each other. Both of your actions always moved faster than your brains, especially when it involved the other.Â
Thatâs what worried his Unit Chief.
He nods and Hotch gives his shoulder a light squeeze, âKeep us updated,â the concern clearly etched in his eyes breaking through his usual stoicism as he looks inside the rig, âWeâll meet you there as soon as we can.â
Under the bright lights of the ambulance heâsâunfortunatelyâable to really take inventory of the injuries you sustained. The blue and black bruising scattered your limbs, the congregation of it on your stomach telling him you have at least two broken ribs. His eyes trail further down your body before abruptly stopping, but not on an appendage.
Spencerâs face pales even further than it already has staring at the glint on the undone button of your trousers shining in the reflection of the light.
If they didnât get there when they didâŚIf he got to you a second laterâŚHe canât even fathom to think about what wouldâve happened.
Heâs broken out of his spiral by the EMT sitting next to him offering a tissue, which is when Spencer feels the tear and snot streaks rolling down his face. He takes it and wipes his face mindlessly before muttering, âCan I justâŚâ hands reaching out to you before his words come out. Spencer doesnât notice the EMT tearing up as he gently buttons your pants.
ââ
You were a fighter.
At least, thatâs what the doctors told Spencer when they came and updated him in the waiting room. He blanks out for most of the conversation, eyes unfocusing and ears on low lest your name be spoken.
âSheâs stable and awake now, the nurse can take you back to see her.â
He shakes his head to recenter and mutters a thank you before following the nurse through the double white doors. His senses are heightened as he walks closer to your room. The scuff of his shoes on the linoleum floors, the pedantic beeping of machines in the rooms he passes, until he hears the only voice thatâs ever been enough to calm the warzone in his mind.
âHi, Spence.â
His feet move on their own accord right next to your bedside, hands hovering awkwardly at his side. Heâs silent for the first couple minutes, just a faint sniffle here and there before he takes a seat near your bed and hears you speak again.
âYou can touch me, Spence. I wonât break more than I already am.â
âDonât say that,â he chides quickly, âItâs not a joke.â
âWell, someone should be the comedic relief here.â
He lays the tips of his fingers right on top of the tips of yours, âYou could have died.â
Your face softens, âI didnât though.â
âYou could have.â
âSpencerââ
âStop down playing it. You donât know what it was like finding you like that.â
âI mean I have some idea, âcause like, I was there.âÂ
Spencer deadpans at your poor attempt at lightening the mood, a faint smile peaking through while he shakes his head, âInsufferable even at your deathbed.â
âYeah, the Grim Reaper heard me yapping and said âkeep herâ.â
He chuckles softly as his hand moves further up to rest the front of his palm on the back of your hand, âHow are you feeling?â
âIâveâŚbeen better. The doctor said one of my broken ribs punctured an artery, a big one apparently,â you flip your hand over so both of your palms are touching but not laced, you softly continue, âTold me I was lucky I came in when I did. Any later the internal bleeding wouldâve spread to my lungs.â
Spencer feels the tears springing again and a lump forming in his throat, âIâm so sorry, sweet girl,â the pet name slipping out before he could realize, âI shouldâve gotten there sooner, or realized something was wrong at the gas station.â
âHey. Donât do that. You saved my life.â your fingers intertwine with his and squeeze with whatever strength you can muster, which isnât a lot and it makes his heart clench tighter. âIâm here.â
He lets out the breath heâs been holding since he walked in, âYouâre here.â
âI didnât forget what you promised me when weâŚbroke up,â God you wish it didnât sound so terminable as it did, âI knew youâd find me. You always do.â
Another sniffle leaves him as he rubs his thumb soothingly on your hand, âI always doâŚLook, thereâs something I need to tell youââ
He doesnât get to finish his sentence as Penelope & Company burst into your room bearing balloons, chocolates, and many, many stuffies.
âHowâs our girl doing?â Penelope huffs, hauling an entire Hallmark catalog worth of gifts in tow.
âSheâs doing fine, Penny.â you chuckle lightly, trying your best to hide the wince of pain from your side, âYou did not need to do all this.â
âNonsense, everyone knows bear stuffies are the real medicine of the world.â she gleefully ignores the nurse onlookers, âI also brought you this, of special request by someone who shall not be named.â From her back she produces a bag of your favorite candyâsour gummy worms. A fact that you knew only one person was privy to.
You act surprised nonetheless, âMy favorite! Thank you, Penny. And all of you, for coming to see my crippled self.â
Spencer watches the team take turns doting on you. Emily, JJ, and Penelope sit with you for about four Gilmore Girls episodesâanother lost relic of modern medicine, according to Pennyâafter which Morgan, Rossi, and Hotch keep you company for a little bit before bidding you good night with forehead kisses and well wishes. Spencer stays with you the whole time, never once leaving your side.Â
You are so loved, he thinks. He didnât realize how much he liked watching you be loved. It makes him miss the times when he could do that for you too.
ââ
Weeks pass since the day of your kidnapping. You still find it weird to call it that, even though itâs literally what happened. Youâve been on house arrestâbed restâbegrudgingly, and while Penelopeâs very glittery visiting schedule has kept you entertained, itâs been hard when the only person you really wanted to see has refused to come visit since you left the hospital.
Youâve asked Penelope why Spencer hasnât come, and all she can offer you is a sad smile and a âHe said something come up sweetie, sorry.â. Texting him seemed even more daunting, more because you werenât about to beg for his attention if he obviously doesnât want you to have it.Â
The doorbell steals your attention and you glance over at the schedule before you walk over to open it, not expecting a visitor at this time.
Spencer looks up from his shoes hearing the door open, âHey.â
A minute passes, âWhy are you here?â you ask bluntly.
He looks confused, âI came to check on you, brought you takeout from the Indian place you like.â The food in his hand smells heavenly but you canât seem to enjoy it yet without getting an answer.
âWhy are you here, now?â you ask again with an addendum.
He either really wants to piss you off or his ear blew out on the way over but he chooses to ignore you and enter your apartment, âYou having nightmares again?â
âWhat? NoâŚâ you lie poorly, straightening up your back, âJust tired.â
He chuckles, âGood to know youâre still a terrible liar. Did you know you wear Doctor Who shirts when youâre feeling anxious?â
Your brows fuddle in confusion but he elaborates, âItâs probably subconscious, something you find comforting and naturally gravitate to in times of distress. Itâs a normal stress response butâŚyouâre wearing an Eleventh Doctor shirt.â My Eleventh Doctor shirt, he thinks.
âThat doesnât mean anything.â you feign.
âMaybe it doesnât,â he nods, âBut you are anxious arenât you?â
âSpencer, what the fuck is going on, why are you here, really?â your eyes narrow, arms crossing defensively.
âI told you, I came to check on you.â
âYou just woke up this morning and decided it was convenient for you to see me today?â Spencer opens his mouth to speak but nothing comes out. You stare at him with tearful eyes and the emotion spills out of you before you can stop it. You speak again after a few moments, voice barely above a whisper, âYou left me. Again.â
He tilts his head, âNo, I didnât.â
âYes, you did.â you grit out, âYou were rooted at my bedside the entire time I was hospitalized, and the second I was discharged you were nowhere to be found. I thought, maybe with Pennyâs schedule youâd come by, but then I came to find out that you didnât even put your name down.â
âYou almost died!â he retorts, âYou almost died, because I made a mistake and you got hurt because of it!â
âSo, that gives you the right to abandon me for the second time?â
âI didnâtâŚâ he sighs out roughly, âI didnât abandon you. I just, couldnâtâŚface you.â Face you, in pain, as a result of his actions.
âIs that what happened the first time you left?â you bite back.
His eyes steel over, âThat was different.â
âI donât see how.â
âYou know why I left.â
âI donât think I do, Spencerââ
âI left because I was putting you in danger!â he yells cutting you off, âI left because loving you meant dragging you into all the messed up stuff that happens to me, stuff thatâll keep happening to me.â
Tobias. Mexico. Cat.
A single tear rolls down your face, âThatâs bullshit, Iâm sorry. We work the same damn job, the risks are the same if weâre together or not.â
âYou donât understandââ
âThen fucking enlighten me, Spencer.â
He stares at you, fighting an internal battle of whether he was really willing to admit his truth to you, one that he knows you deserved to know but wasnât sure if it would put you more in harm's way.
âCat had details about your family.â
Thatâs not what you were expecting to hear. Your face drops, âWhâWhat?â
His eyes dart around the room nervously, âAfter I got out of Millburn and we went to see Cat, she was trying all these tactics to get me to break. I was doing fine, until she started talking about you. She was saying things that only you told me, stuff thatâs not even on record.â
You remember that day. You were supposed to go with him and JJ to the correctional facility but ended up stuck at the BAU because your skill set was more valuable in helping Penelope locate Mr. Scratch. You remember how he came back to you that day, distant and glassed over. It was easy to chalk up his behavior following it to his recent release, but when you woke up a few weeks later to an empty bed and a throwaway note saying âIâm sorry.â, you couldnât figure out for the life of you why all of a sudden you didnât exist to him, like you didnât matter.
âI made a choice, one that I knew would protect you.â
âThatâs not a decision for you to make.â you snap.
âI had to,â he says lowly, taking a step closer to you, âIf being with me puts your safety at riskâŚâ another step, âIâd rather live in a world where you hate me and are still hereâŚâ one more step, âThan one where you loved me and died because of it.â he manages to choke out, taking one final step towards you.
Itâs quiet for a couple minutes, save for the soft whistle of the breeze coming from your open window. The resolve in you has long faded, leaving behind nothing but the skin on your bones to weather the damage. It makes sense to you why he did what he did, and you donât know if the roles were reversed would you do the same thing. But you knew that you loved him and he loved you, and that alone should have been enough.
You canât help but let out a whine, sounding like a petulant child, âThatâs not fair, Spence.â
âWhatâs not fair, baby?â he softly whispers.
Your whine turns into a cry, âThat, all of this. The fall on your sword act in which you decide whatâs best for me is to leave me stranded, thinking I did something wrong that made you stop loving me.â
He steps forward a little more, his face mere inches from your own, âYou think I stopped loving you?â
âWas I supposed to think otherwise? You couldnât even stand being in the same room as me.â
His hands raise to gently cup your face, thumbs positioned under your eyes to wipe the fallen tears. Heâs missed looking into your eyes as close as he is. For a man who doesnât believe in religion heâs pretty certain the gates of heaven lie within your irises.
âI was selfish,â he swallows, âI wanted to keep you safe but I did so in a way that I felt was most logical, which turned out to be so fucking wrong regardless since you still got hurt.â
He brings your face impossibly closer, the warmth of his breath gently hitting your face.
âThere isnât a waking moment where I donât love you. Even when we werenât together, I still looked out for you and I made sure you were safe in ways I couldnât tell you. I meant what I said. I told you Iâd find you in every lifetime. I love you, in every lifetime, angel girl.â
The ache in your heart only grows with his words, reminding you that he always was and will forever be, Your Spencer.
âYou canât do that again,â you stutter out through tiny sobs, âYou need to tell me whatâs going on, whatever it is. We figure it out together.â
He nods softly, the hair on his forehead faintly brushing up on yours, âWe figure it out together. Iâm so sorry for everything, baby.â his lips press a long kiss to your forehead, âIâm here now, Iâm not going anywhere.â
You rise on your toes to meet your lips with his, the missed time and unspoken words flowing silently between you both. His hands wrap gently around your waist and pull you flush to his chest, with yours entangling with the brown curls you had missed so much.
Finally back in his arms, you sigh with exhaustion and relief, âYouâre here.â
âIâm here, honey.â

SUPPORT BY REBLOGGING
I hate him. The smug look on his face when I walk pass him in the main campus hall. All of the girls clawing on to his shoulder, begging for his attention without knowing what fucking loser he is. The way all of the professors are so impressed with him for doing practically nothing in class. Getting a full ride scholarship for basketball to this school. I have grown sick of it.
Park Sunghoon. The name still twists my stomach after all these years. Middle school was when my hatred started for Him. He was my middle school bully. Always teasing me in front of the whole class, or making comments behind my back. What hurts the most is that he doesnât seem to care that he used to act this way, or maybe he thinks I have forgotten. The truth is, I will never forget. It sits at the back of my mind all of the time. The people who know me from middle school still view me as this âdisgustingâ girl who was unlikeable, because of the things that Sunghoon would do to me.
It took years for me to build myself back up, so when I saw that he was planning on going to the same university as me last fall, I was more than worried. But this wasnât middle school anymore. I canât let him get away with treating me like an outcast who doesnât deserve friends.First semester of university is always scary, I was always afraid to come out my shell and meet new people. I wanted to stay on top of acedemics. My best friend Yuqi was the complete opposite. Any opportunity she got to go out and party, she would be there. And, she would surprisingly maintain decent grades as well. Now that I think about it, I have never been a party goer, not even in highschool. Then again, there werenât too many parties that either sounded interesting, or that I was invited to.
âKappa Alpha is having a party this Friday, you in?â Yuqi suggested. She always gets the same response. âNo, you already know I canât, we have finals next weekâ I shrugged. âBut Kappaaaaaa!â Yuqi whined, her voice getting higher every passing second. We were walking down the hallway towards our classes. A few students looked over, but quickly decided that they didnât want to look any further. âI hear that Kappa Alpha has the best Christmas parties every year. You have to comeâ Yuqi insisted, grabbing onto my arm. I rolled my eyes. âYuqi⌠You donât actually think Iâm going to attend one of their parties?â Yuqi gave me a confused stare, trying to read through my expression. âWhy not?â âSunghoon is in that frat, Iâm pretty sure he lives in the frat house as well. You would catch me dead before seeing me step foot into that trashy hell holeâ I explained, crossing my arm defensively. She knows how he treated me in middle school, she was there to witness it.
âWhat? He canât be, out of all the parties I have gone to there, I have not seen him a singular timeâ Yuqi said with her eyebrows furrowed, putting emphasis into each word.. I tried to tell her that yes, he is the type of guy to hide out in the frat house and not attend, but she had no idea. After some debate, she eventually gave up asking me.
That night, I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling fan as it spun lazily above me. Yuqi's words echoed in my mind, mixing with memories I'd rather forget. The Christmas lights strung across my dorm room cast a soft glow, but they did little to brighten my mood.
I rolled onto my side, hugging my pillow close. Why did Sunghoon have to be here, at my university, in my space? It wasn't fair. I'd worked so hard to leave that part of my life behind, to become someone new. Someone stronger.
But was I really stronger if I was still letting him dictate my choices? I grabbed my phone, thumb hovering over Yuqi's contact. She was probably out somewhere, living it up like she always did. I envied her sometimes, her ability to just⌠exist without all this baggage.
"Maybe I should go," I whispered to the empty room. The words felt foreign on my tongue. Me? At a Kappa Alpha party? It was absurd.
I sat up, running a hand through my messy hair. Yuqi would be ecstatic if I went. And isn't that what college is supposed to be about? New experiences, stepping out of your comfort zone?
But then I imagined walking into that frat house, the pulsing music, the crowded rooms. And somewhere in there, Sunghoon. Everybody loving him not knowing the kind of cruel person he is on the inside. My stomach clenched at the thought.
"This is stupid," I muttered, flopping back onto my bed. "I don't need to prove anything to anyone."
But even as I thought it, I knew it wasn't true. I did need to prove something - to myself. That I could face my past, that I could exist in the same space as Sunghoon without falling apart.
I picked up my phone again, this time opening my messages to Yuqi. "Hey," I typed, then paused. Was I really doing this? My finger hovered over the send button as doubt crept in. But then I thought of Yuqi's excited face, of the possibility of actually enjoying myself for once.
Before I could change my mind, I quickly typed out the rest of the message and hit send. "Hey. About that Kappa Alpha party⌠I think I might go after all." I set my phone down, my heart racing. What had I just agreed to?ââââââââââââââââYuqi didnât see my message until the morning, but I can only imagine her physical reaction after reading her written one. âReally???? I never thought this day would come. I promise you will love it!!!â my screen read. Her overuse of punctuation was telling enough about she felt. It was Friday morning, meaning that the party was going to be later in tonight. If I plan my time correctly, we can leave my dorm around 8pm, and I would have had all of the studying done that at I needed to do for the night.
I couldnât help feeling nervous at the thought of attending a party with Sunghoon, but I decided that this may be the perfect chance to get to know him better. Okay, not âget to know him betterâ but maybe this could finally give him a chance to clear the air between us, to apologize properly for everything that he did to me. But the chances of him apologizing are slim to none. When I see him in campus he seems to be the snobby type, unable to admit that they are wrong. Trust me, I have heard the stories going around campus.
I spent the rest of the day in a fog, my mind drifting between lectures and study sessions. The impending party loomed over me, a mix of dread and nervous anticipation.
By the time I returned to my dorm, the sun was already setting. I sat at my desk, attempting to review my notes, but the words blurred together. My phone buzzed - another excited text from Yuqi about outfit choices. I sighed, closing my textbook. There was no point in pretending to study anymore.
~~~~~
At 7:00, a knock at my door announced Yuqi's arrival. She entered with her usual whirlwind energy, arms full of clothes and makeup. "Okay," she said, dumping everything onto my bed. "Let's make you look amazing."
I eyed the pile warily. "Yuqi, I'm not trying to impress anyone. Especially not Sunghoon." She paused, giving me a soft look. "This isn't about him. It's about you feeling good about yourself. Now, let's start with this sweater."
For the next half hour, we sifted through outfits. Yuqi was patient, letting me veto anything too revealing or flashy. We finally settled on a soft, cropped sweater and high-waisted jeans - comfortable, but still party-appropriate.
As I changed, Yuqi chatted about her day, her excitement for the party. Her casual banter helped ease my nerves, reminding me why I'd agreed to this in the first place. This was about spending time with my best friend, not about Sunghoon.
We left my dorm at 8:15, the cool night air a welcome relief for my flushed cheeks. The walk to the frat house was short, but with each step, the butterflies in my stomach intensified. Music pulsed in the distance, growing louder as we approached.
Outside the house, we paused. Yuqi squeezed my hand. "You okay?" she asked, her voice gentle.
I took a deep breath, nodding. "Yeah. Let's do this."
We stepped inside, and I was immediately overwhelmed. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol and too many bodies in too small a space. Yuqi leaned close, "I'm going to get us some drinks. Will you be okay for a minute?"
I nodded, not trusting my voice. As she disappeared into the crowd, I stood there, taking in my surroundings. Groups of people clustered around, laughing and dancing. I recognized a few faces from classes, but no one I knew well.
And then, across the room, I saw him. Sunghoon, leaning against a wall, surrounded by his usual admirers. He was laughing at something someone said, his head thrown back. For a moment, I was transported back to middle school, hearing that laugh directed at me, mocking and cruel.
Our eyes met for a brief second, and I swear I saw something flicker in his expression. Surprise? Recognition? But before I could process it, someone bumped into me, breaking the moment.
I turned away, my heart pounding. What was I doing here? This was a mistake. I was about to head for the door when Yuqi reappeared, pressing a red cup into my hand.
"Here," she said with a smile. "It'll help you relax." I took a small sip, the unfamiliar burn of alcohol hitting the back of my throat. As we stood there, Yuqi chatting animatedly about the people around us, I felt myself slowly start to unwind. Maybe agreeing to come here wasnât too bad of an idea.I was just starting to relax, the music and Yuqi's chatter creating a comfortable bubble around us, when I saw him approaching. Sunghoon, weaving through the crowd, his eyes fixed on... us? No, it couldn't be. But it was.
He stopped right in front of us, that infuriatingly perfect smile plastered on his face. "Hey, Yuqi," he said, his voice smooth as ever. Then his eyes slid to me. "And Y/N,⌠it's been a while, hasn't it?" I felt my body tense, my grip tightening on the red cup in my hand. Yuqi glanced between us, her eyes wide with surprise and a hint of concern. "Sunghoon," I managed to say, my voice coming out colder than I'd intended. But then again, why should I care? He seemed unfazed by my tone. "I didn't expect to see you here. You're not usually the party type, right?" The casual way he said it, as if he knew me, as if we were old friends catching up, made my blood boil. How dare he act so nonchalant after everything? "People change," I replied curtly. "Not that you'd know anything about that." I avoided eye contact. I saw Yuqi wince beside me, but I couldn't bring myself to care. Sunghoon's smile faltered for a moment, a flicker of... something passing across his face. Confusion? Hurt? Good.
"Right," he said, recovering quickly. Looking down at the ground with a half smile, he takes âââââââââââââââmy snarky response as a que to leave. âIâll see you around, (Y/N)â he scoffs and walks away.
âHe is such an assholeâ Yuqi complains, rubbing my back as a way to try to comfort me. âYou responded wellâ I watched Sunghoon's tall, muscular figure get lost in the crowd, a mix of emotions swirling inside me. Part of me felt satisfied with how I'd handled the encounter, but another part felt... unsettled. I took a long swig from my cup, hoping the alcohol would dull the conflicting feelings. "Thanks," I mumbled to Yuqi, grateful for her support. She gave me a reassuring smile, but I could see the concern in her eyes. "Do you want to leave? We can if you're not comfortable." I considered it for a moment. The idea of going back to my dorm, burying myself in my blankets and pretending this night never happened, was tempting. But then I thought about how that's exactly what the old me would have done. The me that let Sunghoon's actions dictate her life.
"No," I said, surprising myself with the firmness in my voice. "I'm not leaving. I have just as much right to be here as he does." Yuqi's face broke into a wide grin. "That's my girl!" she cheered, linking her arm through mine. "Let's mingle a bit, shall we?" As we made our way through the crowded room, I couldn't help but notice Sunghoon's gaze following us. Every time I glanced in his direction, he looked away, but not before I caught a flicker of... something in his eyes. It wasn't the cruel amusement I remembered from our school days. It was something else, something I couldn't quite place.
Yuqi introduced me to a few of her friends, and I found myself actually enjoying the conversations. It felt... normal. Like maybe I could do this whole college social scene thing after all. But then, over someone's shoulder, I saw Sunghoon again. He was looking right at us, his expression unreadable. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and I felt a jolt of... something. Before I could analyze it further, he quickly averted his gaze, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. Wait, was Sunghoon blushing? I shook off the thought. It was probably just the alcohol playing tricks on my mind.
As the night wore on, I found myself relaxing more and more. The alcohol helped, but it was more than that. Every minute I spent here, laughing with Yuqi and her friends, was a minute I was reclaiming for myself. Yet, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Every so often, I'd catch Sunghoon looking in my direction. But it wasn't the mocking stare I was used to. There was something almost... wistful about it. Once, when our eyes met, he even offered a small, hesitant smile before quickly turning the other way. I donât understand why he is trying to smile at me. It was confusing, to say the least. This wasn't the Sunghoon I remember. The Sunghoon who had made my life miserable. This Sunghoon seemed... different. Unsure. Almost vulnerable. As Yuqi and I were preparing to leave, I excused myself to use the bathroom. On my way back, I quite literally bumped into Sunghoon in the hallway. "Oh, sorry," he mumbled, steadying me with a hand on my arm. The touch sent an unexpected jolt through me. "You okay?" I nodded, unsureness in my voice. We stood there for a moment, an awkward silence stretching between us. "Listen, Y/N," he started, then paused, running a hand through his jet black hair. "I... I'm glad you came tonight. It was good to see you."
Before I could respond, he quickly walked away, leaving me standing there, completely baffled. It wasn't until much later, as Yuqi and I were stumbling back to our dorms, arms linked and giggling about nothing in particular, that I realized something. For the first time in years, I'd spent an entire evening in the same space as Sunghoon without letting it ruin my night. And more than that, I was left with the strangest feeling that maybe there was more to Sunghoon than I'd allowed myself to see. As I collapsed onto my bed, exhausted but oddly content, I couldn't help but feel like something had shifted. I wasn't naive enough to think one party had erased years of hurt and resentment. But maybe it was a start.ââââââââââââââââ
The next morning I woke up disoriented, borderline hungover. Roll over to the side to check the time on my phone. 11:09AM? It honestly felt like I slept for three days with how many drinks I consumed. I look further down the screen to see the notifications:
1:18 AM: @prksnghn02 started following you!
1:19 AM: @prksnghn02 Liked your post!
I must have fallen asleep to quickly too see this last night, but that was definitely right after we left the party.
I scroll through the conversation, smiling slightly at the messages
2:11 AM: @prksnghn02 Hey! You still here?
2:11 AM: @prksnghn02 I get it if you donât want to speak to me.
Why was he messaging me. What gives him the right? I igonore the message and delete the message request. All that before my thumb hesitantly hovered over the follow button on his profile, eventually turning it grey. I spent the weekend as usual, going to my job at night and studying in the mornings. Though I had the awkward interaction with Sunghoon at one party, I think that I could see myself going with Yuqi to another party some time. Not soon though because finals start on Monday and I have to pass to keep my financial aid. Thatâs another thing that pisses me off. I work day and night to pay for my schooling by myself, and Sunghoon gets it all handed to him for being okay at basketball. He teased me for growing up less wealthy than him, but if he were in my shoes, he wouldnât have thought it was so funny.
Monday morning I was walking through the main hall on campus, where they have to coffee shop that I occasionally stop by. Of course this time when I went, Sunghoon was standing at the bookstore across the walk way, talking to his girl-toys. It took everything in me to not make things awkward by looking in his direction, but for the split second I looked that way, he was already eyeing me down. I pretended to not notice, continuing into the coffee shop line as I would do normally. The line was fairly short. I looked down at my phone to distract myself until it was my turn to order. âI am sorry (Y/N)â a familiar voice says behind me, him lightly grazing my shoulder.
My eyes immediately snap to the owner of the voice. His brown eyes were staring directly into mine as if he could tell exactly what I was thinking just by looking at me. And I know he can. âHeyâ he seems to say, flashing me the smallest of smirks as his hand rests on the counter to my left. I scoff in disbelief. He really is serious now isnât he. I try to ignore him and continue with my order, but Sunghoon stops me in my tracks. My heart starts hammering harder in my chest as I glance around to make sure no one overheard. âHey (Y/N),â he repeats, giving me his infamous smirk. âI really am sorryâ he continues. Heâs watching me with a curious tilt to his head as he waits for my response.
âCan I buy you a drink? Maybe we can talk some more?â For a fraction of a moment, itâs hard to believe whatâs happening.
âWhatever you are trying to do, I donât want any part of itâ I said sternly, trying to shoo him away. I know he could see the annoyance on my face but that wasnât enough to get him to leave. âPlease, I want to make things rightâ he begged with a hint of charm in his voice. He reaches out to hold my wrist but this time instead of swatting him away, I let him. If anyone deserves an apology it should be me. He takes a step closer to me, tilting his head slightly. âFine I guess, but do not expect to get anything out of meâ I agreed hesitantly. His facial expression completely changed from worried to⌠relieved? We ordered together in line while I tried my best to ignore him. His scent was a distraction. It was captivating. It was comparable to mohagany and mint. Admittedly, he is tall and handsome, even when we were in middle school he had always been cute. But I would never say that out loud. Eventually, his named was called and we both went up to grab our drinks. âThank you Sunghoonâ I said while looking down, trying to get out of the situation as soon a possible. âWaitâ he says before I get to far away. âI will text youâ he added. I half way smiled and walked away.
~~~~~
At lunch, I found myself leaning against Yuqi as we sat at one of our tables outside. âHow do you feel?â she asked. âBetterâ I admitted. âItâll take some getting used to, but I think Iâm doing betterâ She nodded, seemingly satisfied by my reply.
âYuqi?â I spoke again once I had my full attention back on her. She turned her attention towards me expectantly.
âWhy donât you give him another chance?â she sighed, rolling her neck around. âI mean, he seems like he is genuinely trying to make it up to you.â
âYes he is putting in the effort now, but the pain that he put me through doesnât just go away in an instant, it will take time for me to trust himâ
âI understandâ she muttered.
~~~~~
A few days had passed but I had never received a message from Sunghoon. Maybe he forgot or maybe he was scaredâŚ. I donât know. But I canât help but to think that I was maybe looking forward to that message. Yuqi was right, maybe he does deserve another chance. The library was my number one studying location. It was quiet, I could focus, and nobody bothers me. I actually have some time to myself. I have tested out every study area here and the to floor is by far my favorite. I press the 5 on the elevator control pad, and as the doors start closing, someoneâs hand is placed between the doors, causing them to shoot back open. It was Sunghoon. I awkwardly scoot to the edge of the confined space to make sure there was more than enough room between us. His eyes light up when he realizes I was the one in the elevator.
âWould it be a problem if I rode with you?â he asked hesitatingly with an awkward smile.
âNo, why would there be a problem?â I replied quickly. There was an awkward silence for a few seconds after my answer, and then I heard the elevator ding and the doors slowly start closing again. God, being around him gave me mixed emotions. His aura is so captivating, but his personality is the opposite. And not to mention that mohagany scent again. We rode to the fifth floor in total silence and exited the elevator once it stopped. When we both made way out of the elevator to walk our own directions, He gently grazed my shoulder and said âGood luck with finalsâ and walked the other direction.
-
Later that same evening while I was still on the library, my phone pinged with a new notification.
prksnghn02: Hey are you available?
prksnghn02: I know I said I was sorry but I really want you to know how I feel. I canât do it over text.
I think this is the message that I have been waiting to see. I would appreciate to see him and have him fully apologize, though I donât think this is the right time. Itâs the middle of finals week and lord knows I am already struggling as is. I look up from my phone, observing my surroundings, and spot Sunghoon across the almost empty room lounging on a library bean-bag. Alone. Thatâs a first considering his royalty equivalent status on campus. He was clearly looking at me when I opened his message.
yourusername: Hey, sorry. I really need to study for this Sociology final. I can definitely carve out a time to meet next week.
I look up at him and point at my phone, making a frowny face and his expression mirrors mine.
prksnghn02: Who is the professor? I aced my sociology class I took over the summer. If you need any help lmk.
He looks at me with a thumbs up. His offer seems tempting, but what would I do? Sit there and hear him lecture me? It would already be hard enough to pay attention given how his arms are looking in that black fitted top.
yourusername: I will think about it.
I try to focus on my sociology notes, but my eyes keep drifting back to Sunghoon. He's still lounging on the bean bag, but now he has a textbook open on his lap. Every so often, he glances up, catching my eye before we both quickly look away. The tension is palpable, even from across the room. I sigh, running a hand through my hair. This is getting ridiculous. I'm here to study, not to play this weird game of cat and mouse with my former bully turned... what? Potential friend? The thought makes me uncomfortable. I make a split second decision on impulse and grab my phone, maybe regretting my decision later.
yourusername: Okay fine, come help me.
I witness Sunghoon look at his phone and shoot up out of his seat within the span of 3 seconds. Impressive. My heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs as Sunghoon practically skidded to a stop in front of my desk. It was a stark contrast to his usual nonchalance. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and for a moment, I was back in middle school, his laughter echoing in the halls, the same laughter that used to sting.
âSo, sociology huh?â he said with the most awkward tone possible. âWhat do you need help withâ he continues, signaling his hand towards my messy notes. My notebook has definitely seen better days. I sighed, shoving my phone into the abyss of my backpack.
"Everything feels like gibberish. Professor Ramirez throws these massive lectures at us, and it all just blends together." Surprised laughter rumbled out of him.
"Ramirez? Yeah, he can be a bit much. But trust me, sociology isn't actually that complicated. Let's see your notes." Tentatively, I slid my well-worn notebook across the desk. He flipped through the pages, his brow furrowing in concentration. The silence stretched, broken only by the soft rustle of turning paper. I snuck a peek at him. His features were softened by a focus I wouldn't have expected. "Okay," he finally said, looking up. "This isn't so bad. You've got the basic concepts down. I think you're just getting overwhelmed by the details."
Relief flooded me. Maybe I wasn't completely incompetent after all. He settled into the chair across from me, his arm brushing mine for a moment as he reached for a pen. He continued to sort through my notes, trying to piece together what I may not be understanding. He was surprisingly patient with me, and even created examples for me to try and understand better. Not to mention that I couldnât keep my eyes off of him as he spoke. His black hair falling loosely in front of his dark brown eyes and black glasses was so sexy.
"So basically, social stratification is like the ranking system within a society?" I summarized, feeling a flicker of accomplishment. Sunghoon grinned, a genuine smile that reached his eyes. "Exactly! See, you were getting it all along." He paused, then reached for a specific page in my notes.
"Now, let's talk about power structures and how they influence social mobilityâŚ" Time melted away as Sunghoon patiently guided me through the sociological knowledge. I peppered him with questions, surprised by my own comfort level.
He answered them all with good humor and a surprising depth of knowledge that made him seem worlds apart from the bully I knew in middle school and the jock he is now. I looked at his face once again, admiring the way he furrowed his eye brows when he concentrated. I am snapped out of my trance with
âWhat?â Sunghoon questioned me, tilting his face to the side. I couldnât even comprehend what had happened until a second or two later.
âNothing! Itâs nothing. Go on with what you were sayingâ I averted my eyes towards the table to try and hide the blood in my cheeks. âHeh, OkayâŚ.â he chuckles fiddling with the ring on his finger. He pauses for a few seconds and picks up with âYou should get home soon. You donât wanna have late nights, right?â
He looks me dead in the eye as he says this, a hint of playfulness in his gaze. I glanced at my phone, startled to see it was already 1 AM. We'd been studying for hours without realizing it. The library, usually bustling with stressed students, was now eerily quiet.
"Oh wow, I didn't realize how late it got," I mumbled, hastily gathering my notes. Sunghoon stretched, his shirt riding up slightly. I pretended not to notice.
"Yeah, time flies when you're having fun with sociology, right?" he said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at my lips. "Right, because power structures are just a barrel of laughs." As we packed up our things, Sunghoon hesitated, then asked, "Hey, um, would you like me to walk you back to your dorm? It's pretty late." I paused, considering. The old me would have immediately refused, not wanting to spend an extra second with him.
But now... "Sure," I found myself saying. "That would be nice." We stepped out into the cool night air, the campus very quiet around us. For a moment, we walked in silence, the only sound our footsteps on the pavement.
"So," Sunghoon started, breaking the silence. "Did you find the study session helpful?" I nodded, surprised by my own honesty.
"Yeah, actually. You explain things... differently than I expected." He raised an eyebrow.
"Different good or different bad?"
"Different good," I admitted. "You're more... patient than I thought you'd be." Sunghoon chuckled softly. "Well, don't sound so surprised. Im not just a handsome face ya know.â I felt a retort forming on my lips, but bit it back.
âYeah yeah, donât flatter yourself.â As we walked, I couldn't help but sneak glances at him. In the soft glow of the street lamps, he looked... different. Softer somehow. Less like the arrogant boy I'd built up in my mind and more like... well, just a guy. "You know," he said suddenly, his voice quiet. "I meant what I said before. About being sorry." I felt my body tense. "Sunghoon, we don't have to-"
"No, please," he interrupted, stopping in his tracks. I turned to face him, surprised by the earnestness in his eyes. "I was a jerk in middle school. More than a jerk. I was cruel, and I've regretted it for years. I just... I want you to know that. I am sorry." I stood there, stunned. This vulnerability was so at odds with the Sunghoon I thought I knew.
"I... thank you," were the only words that were able to come out of my mouth. - I turned to face towards him as we reached the enterance of my dorm building. âOkay, I guess I can take it from hereâ I said, grabbing my key card out of my backpack.
âGoodnight, Sunghoon.â I entered the building and the door was already halfway closed before Sunghoon grabbed it and called out behind me, "Wait!â I stopped mid step and turned to meet his curious gaze, confused by what he could possibly want to say. I gave him a questioning look as he approached me slowly. His hands fidgeted nervously, and he took one last glance around, making sure no one was watching before reaching up to touch my cheek hesitantly. His thumb brushed the area under my eye lightly, his hand moving downwards slowly until he rested his palm flat on my jaw. I was somehow okay with this, despite the butterflies in my stomach.
My heart thudded loudly against my chest as I stared at his hand resting gently on my skin, unable to tear my gaze away from his. There was something magnetic about the way his eyes bore into me with an intensity I have never felt. âHave a good night, (Y/N)â he said softly, grazing my bottom lip with his thumb. He leaned down slowly while gazing into my eyes, a soft smile gracing his lips. My breath hitched as he brought his other hand up and cradled my cheek, brushing some loose strands of hair out of my face. âYou too, Sunghoonâ
~~~~~
The end of finals week had finally come and I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the most relieved I have ever been in my life. I was lounging on my bed scrolling through tik tok and I saw a message pop up at the top of my screen.
prksnghn02: Hey! A few of us are having a small get-together at the frat house to celebrate surviving finals. You and Yuqi should come.
I stared at the message, my thumb hovering over the keyboard. A month ago, I would've immediately declined. But now⌠things were different. The study session with Sunghoon, our late-night walk, the way he'd touched my face before saying goodnight - it all swirled in my mind, a confusing mix of old resentment and new⌠something.
yourusername: Let me check with Yuqi. What time?
His response was almost immediate.
prksnghn02: Around 8? It's just a few people, nothing crazy. Promise it won't be like last time.
I couldn't help but smile at that. The last party had been a turning point, in a way.
yourusername: Okay, I'll let you know.
I rolled over, dialing Yuqi's number. She picked up on the second ring.
"Please tell me you're calling to drag me out of this post-finals funk," she groaned.
I laughed. "Actually, yeah. Sunghoon invited us to a small thing at the frat house. You in?"
There was a pause on the other end. "Sunghoon, huh? You two seem to be getting along better."
I could hear the smile in her voice. "We're⌠working on it," I admitted. "So, you coming or what?"
"Obviously," she said. "I'll be at yours in an hour. We need to talk about this Sunghoon situation, by the way."
I groaned. "There's no 'situation', Yuqi."
"Uh-huh. Sure. See you soon!"
She hung up before I could protest further. I flopped back onto my bed, staring at the ceiling.
An hour later, Yuqi was sprawled on my bed, watching me rummage through my closet.
"So," she said, drawing out the word. "You and Sunghoon, huh?"
I threw a shirt at her. "There's no 'me and Sunghoon'. We're just⌠I don't know. Not enemies anymore, I guess."
Yuqi sat up, her expression serious. "Look, I know he was awful to you in middle school. But people change, you know? And he seems to be really trying."
I sighed, sitting down next to her. "I know. It's just⌠complicated."
She bumped my shoulder with hers. "Life's complicated. Doesn't mean you can't give it a chance."
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Yuqi always had a way of cutting through my defenses.
"Now," she said, her tone lightening. "Let's find you something cute to wear. Just because it's not a 'situation' doesn't mean you can't look hot."
I rolled my eyes, but let her pull me back to the closet.The frat house was quieter than I'd ever seen it. No pulsing music, no crowds of people. Just the soft murmur of conversation and laughter drifting from the back patio. Sunghoon met us at the door, his face lighting up when he saw us. "Hey! You made it." he said, ushering us inside. His eyes lingered on me for a moment, and I felt a flutter in my stomach. "Drinks are in the kitchen, we're all out back."
As we followed him through the house, I couldn't help but notice how different he seemed here, in his element. Relaxed, open, a far cry from the popular Sunghoon I was used to seeing on campus. He was wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans, but somehow he made it look effortlessly attractive. The back patio was strung with fairy lights, casting a warm glow over the small group gathered there. I recognized a few faces from classes, but it was indeed a much smaller crowd than the usual frat parties.
Yuqi immediately gravitated towards a group she knew, leaving me standing awkwardly by the door. Sunghoon appeared at my side, two red cups in hand. "Here," he said, offering me one. "It's just punch, but fair warning - Heeseung made it, so it's probably stronger than it tastes." I took a sip, the sweetness masking the unmistakable burn of alcohol. "Thanks for inviting us," I said, surprised by how much I meant it. Sunghoon's smile was soft, almost shy. "I'm glad you came. I wasn't sure if you would." "Honestly? I wasn't sure either," I admitted. He nodded, understanding in his eyes. "Well, I'm glad you did. Come on, let me introduce you to some people." As the night wore on, I found myself relaxing more and more. The punch was indeed strong, but the warm buzz it provided was pleasant.
Sunghoon stayed close, always making sure I was included in conversations, laughing at my jokes, his hand occasionally brushing against mine in a way that seemed both accidental and deliberate. I found myself studying him when he wasn't looking. The way his eyes crinkled when he laughed, the gestures he made when he was explaining something he was passionate about. It was hard to reconcile this Sunghoon with the boy who had tormented me in middle school. At some point, Yuqi caught my eye from across the patio and gave me a not-so-subtle thumbs up. I rolled my eyes at her, but I couldn't help the smile that subtly appears on my face.
As the night progressed, people started to drift away in twos and threes. Yuqi had gotten into an intense discussion about some TV show with a guy from her psych class, leaving Sunghoon and me alone on a small bench near the edge of the patio. The fairy lights cast a soft glow on his features, and I found myself staring longer than I should have. "You know," Sunghoon said, his words slightly slurred, "I never thought we'd be here like this." I raised an eyebrow. "What, drunk on your frat house patio?" He laughed, the sound warm and genuine. "No, I mean... talking. Like friends."
His hand found mine on the bench between us, his fingers intertwining with mine. The touch sent a jolt through me, but I didn't pull away. "I was such an ass to you in middle school," he continued, his voice dropping low. "I... I didn't know how to deal with how I felt about you back then." I froze, my heart suddenly pounding. "What do you mean?" Sunghoon turned to face me, his eyes intense even in their alcohol-glazed state. "I had the biggest crush on you," he admitted. "But I was too stupid and insecure to know how to handle it. So I lashed out instead." I sat there, stunned.
The Sunghoon I knew in middle school, the one who had made my life miserable, had a crush on me? It didn't make sense, and yet... "That doesn't excuse what I did," he continued, his thumb tracing circles on the back of my hand. "Nothing excuses that. But I want you to know how sorry I am. And how glad I am that you're giving me a chance to make it right."
I looked at our intertwined hands, then back up at Sunghoon's face. The vulnerability in his expression took my breath away. "I... I don't know what to say," I whispered. "You don't have to say anything," he murmured, leaning in slightly. "I just wanted you to know." We sat there for a moment, the air between us charged with possibility. Then, without thinking, I leaned in, closing the distance between us. Our lips met softly, hesitantly at first. Then Sunghoon's free hand came up to cup my cheek, deepening the kiss.
It was sweet and a little clumsy, tasting of punch with a hint of alcohol. His lips were softer than I'd imagined - not that I'd been imagining it, of course. When we broke apart, I could feel the heat in my cheeks. Sunghoon's eyes were wide, a mix of surprise and something else I couldn't quite name.
"I... wow," he breathed, his thumb gently caressing my cheek. Before I could respond, the patio door slid open and Yuqi's voice rang out. "Y/N? You out here?" Sunghoon and I sprang apart, but not before Yuqi caught sight of us. Her facial expression completely changed, a knowing smirk spreading across her face.
"Sorry, am I interrupting something?" she asked, her tone teasing. I stood up quickly, nearly losing my balance. Sunghoon steadied me with a hand on my arm, the touch sending another jolt through me. "We were just... talking," I managed to say, knowing how unconvincing it sounded. Yuqi's grin widened. "Uh-huh. 'Talking.' Got it. Well, hate to break up this... conversation, but it's getting late. We should probably head out." I nodded, suddenly feeling very sober. "Right. Yeah. Let's go."
As we made our way back through the house, I could feel Sunghoon's eyes on me. At the front door, he caught my hand. "Text me when you get home safe?" he asked, his voice low. I nodded, words not being able to leave my mouth. He squeezed my hand once before letting go. - The walk back to the dorms was quiet, Yuqi mercifully holding back her questions until we were safely in my room. "Okay," she said, flopping onto my bed. "Spill. Everything. Now." I sank into my desk chair, my mind replaying the kiss over and over. "I... I don't even know where to start," I admitted.
Yuqi's expression softened. "Start at the beginning. And don't leave anything out."
~~~~~
Going over to Sunghoons frat house became a frequent thing over the winter break. About twice a week I would go with Yuqi and kick back with a few of his friends, the same ones that were there the first time.
During those times, we'd always end up hanging out in Sunghoons backyard, or playing in his pool. He definitely acted a lot different around his friends than I expected. More relaxed, open, less guarded. In turn he opened up to me a bit too.
âIf I beat you in a round of pool, you have take a shot with meâ Sunghoon said chuckling, nudging his elbow against my arm. âCome on, thatâs fair!â
âI guess, but what do I get it I win?â
Sunghoon narrowed his eyes suspiciously. âYou know what, I can think of somethingâŚâ He moved closer to me, the tip of his nose inches away from mine. A shiver ran down my spine as I tried to resist the urge to pull away. Instead, I remained still, watching nervously as his mouth slowly drew closer and closer. âI think you might like itâ he said teasingly.
âI guess I should just let you win thenâ I sighed sarcastically, trying to ignore the butterflies built up in my stomach.
He scoffs âI promise, sweetheart, I donât biteâ he said, moving back just enough so he could meet my eyes. His voice was low and husky, sending a ripple of heat through my body.
âSo, what kind of shot?â I asked lightly, trying to ignore the way my voice shook as I spoke.
âI think I have some Don Julioâ he mused, running a hand along the back of his neck.
Sunghoon it first to break all of the pool balls apart, declaring him as solids. Drinking beer between each of our turns and chatting about family and work, Sunghoon was a lot better at pool than he originally let on, because soon enough he had only 2 solid balls left, while I still had 5 stripes.
I was expecting him to have already won at this point. When he set his cue on the edge, lining up to hit one of the solids into a hole, the 8 ball shoots across the board, into the hole closest to me.
âAw shit, I guess you wonâ He said with a fake defeated look.
I laughed, setting my bottle aside. âLooks like it. Thanks for letting me have a couple extra roundsâ I said, winking at him. I missed my cue stick by mere centimeters, but didnât care. My eyes were locked on Sunghoon; his hair stuck up everywhere, his skin glistening with sweat after his game, his shirt clung tightly to his frame.
A loud bang echoed off the walls, making us both jump slightly. Sunghoonâs eyes snapped towards the window behind me, his eyebrows furrowing in concern. âSomeone just slammed the garage door shutâ he whispered. âDid they close up for the night?â
We had spent so much time playing pool, we didnât realize that slowly, one by one, people started to go home. This meaning that Yuqi probably caught a ride home with someone and the only people left here are the 3 frat guys staying in the house over the break.
âItâs getting late, I should probably call an Uberâ I said, rubbing my eyes for focus.
âWhy leave so soon? Doing Uber this late at night could be dangerous, you never know what kind of people could be out there.â
âWhat other option do I have? Yuqi went home alreadyâ I replied, grabbing my phone.
âYou can stay here, you can sleep on my bed and I will set up a bed on the floorâ he offered.
âI donât know if that is the best ideaâ I muttered, staring at my feet.
âJust sleep here. Donât waste money on an Uber, and I promise I can take great care of you.â he urged me, placing his hand under my chin so that I would finally look at him. âDo you really believe that I would let you get into a strangers car right now?â
I hesitated before nodding. âFine, but only because I trust you.â
~
We pack up all of our stuff from outside, including my purse and all of the extra alcohol. There are so many room in the frat house and I have never been upstairs, I have no idea which one is Sunghoons. As the two of us climb the stairs up to his room, we both silently agree not to mention the previous events from the other night.
Sunghoon doesnât know why I kissed him, And I donât know why he kissed me. Even though he did tell me a little about the reason behind our relationship, it wouldnât matter, he was too far gone for it to change anything anyway.
The moment we step into his room, he tosses his backpack onto the floor and gestures to the large queen sized bed sitting in the corner of the room.
âI didnât bring anything to sleep in, I canât sleep wearing jeans and a tank topâ I said, gesturing to my jeans.
âDonât worry about it, I can lend you somethingâ he said, walking over to a laundry basket of clothes lying on the floor near the wardrobe. âI havenât gotten the chance to put up my laundry, let me find somethingâ he explains, rummaging through the basket.
He pulls out a large black t-shirt and some basketball shorts. âHere, try these onâ and walked over, handing them to me, a slight smile tugging at the edge of his lips.
âLook away!â I playfully shouted while waving my hand to shoo him. â
âOh my gosh, okayâ he covers his eyes like a cartoon character.
Luckily I was wearing some spandex shorts and a sports bra underneath, so even if he did sneak a peek, which Iâm sure he did, nothing too important would have been exposed. On him the clothes look normal size, but on me, the shirt fit like a dress and the shorts touched half way down my shins. âI guess I have no choiceâ I shrugged.
I crawl into his bed while he went to fetch an extra blanket for me out of his closet. At this point, he was already in his sleep attire. No shirt and some basketball shorts. It was hard to concentrate when he was standing there wearing nothing but shorts. I admit that maybe I was staring a bit longer than appropriate.
âYou like what you see?â he says in a cocky tone, chuckling at my embarrassment.
âShut up, you are so annoyingâ I scoff and roll my eyes, laying back down on the bed.
âHaha okayâŚâ he smirks as he stands up from the closed with the blanket in his hand. âHopefully this will keep you warm enoughâ he said, covering me with the big piece of fabric.
âThank you, Sunghoonâ I said, turning over to attempt to catch some sleep. He set up a little bed on the floor with a blanket and a pillow right next to the bed and layer down as well.
After sometime of just listening to the sound of the crickets outside, the quiet noises of the street, cars passing by, the occasional chirp of a bird. The atmosphere was rather peaceful, comfortable almost. I couldn't help the small smile forming on my face as I lay my head on my arm.
My brain kept drifting away from sleep, my thoughts constantly drifting back to Sunghoon. My heart rate was rising with every second that passed, I tried desperately to calm myself down, not wanting to give any indication that I was starting to get aroused. The more I listened to the sounds outside, the more I felt the overwhelming desire to be wrapped up in his arms. Just to feel him hold me.
I sigh deeply, rolling over onto my side and facing him. The soft glow of moonlight illuminating the entire room, casting light patterns on his sleeping features. If this was any other day, I would definitely stare at him until dawn, taking in every minute detail of him.
I scooted over to the edge of the bed, just close enough for me to nudge Sunghoon with my foot. âHoon, are you awakeâ I whispered.
His eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the brightness of the moonlight leaking through the blinds. âYeahâ he clears his throat. âWhy?â
âCan you lay with me?â I whispered again.
He stared at me for a second, trying to understand what was going through my mind. Eventually, he crawled onto the bed, lying down next to me. His body was hot against mine, making goosebumps erupt throughout my skin, but the feeling was comforting nevertheless. We laid like that in silence for a few moments, simply enjoying each other's presence.
Eventually, it became too awkward and I had to move closer into Sunghoon, cuddling up next to him. âI like thisâ I say quietly, resting my head in the crook of his neck, inhaling his faint scent. He chuckled slightly, positioning himself to where his fingers could comb though my hair.
I mumble, wrapping my arm around his torso. His fingers stopped their ministrations then, hesitating for a moment. I looked up at him from my position on his chest, curious as to what made him stop. I met his deep brown eyes that were focused solely on me. His gaze was soft, yet intimidating at the same time. Slowly, carefully, he lifted my head off his body and held it between his hands. Then he brought his lips to meet mine softly.
He pulled me in closer, gently running his fingertips along my jawline, making my heartbeat pick up in pace. His kisses were slow and sweet, the most tender kiss I've ever had. After several seconds of pure bliss, he pulled away slowly, watching me as if waiting for some sort of reaction. When my eyes fluttered open I met with his eyes, gazing deeply into each othersâ. A smile formed on my lips, making Sunghoon lean in to reconnect our lips again.
He placed his hands on the sides of my neck, holding me close to him, deepening the kiss, our tongues intertwining in a passionate dance. Our bodies pressed closely together, moving together rhythmically. His hands lifted up my oversized shorts and began roaming across my bare thighs, tracing up the hem of my shirt. We kept getting tangled in each otherâs clothing as we continued kissing.
He reached my breasts, pushing up my sports bra to give them an affectionate squeeze, causing me to gasp in response. My hands moved down from his shoulders and ran up the backs of his arms to his neck, pulling on his short hairs slightly. Pulling on the strands of hair caused him to release a low growl and deepen the kiss, pulling his tongue into my mouth. Suddenly I felt his teeth graze my bottom lip, causing me to whimper slightly at the unexpected pain. When he released my lower lip, he sucked on it, sucking on it harder and harder with his sharp canine teeth. âFuckâŚâ I moan, gripping tightly onto the ends of his dark brown locks.
He took the opportunity to slide his hands under my shirt, rubbing his thumbs over my nipples lightly, causing my stomach muscles to tense up involuntarily. A slight smirk crept onto his lips as he noticed this, but then he proceeded to push the crop top further up on my shoulders before placing soft gentle kisses along my collar bone. He sprinkled kissed on my shoulders and chest and then moved down towards my waistline, placing soft soft kisses along my belly button. His hand started to work its way downwards, slowly caressing the insides of my thighs.
He latched one of my nipples into his mouth, gently suckling the tight swollen bud of flesh with his teeth and tongue. As his hand reached down and slid his middle finger along the underside of my left thigh, causing me to grind against his hand.
He trailed his hand back up to the bottom of my shirts and bunched it up in his hand âCan I take this off?â he leaned next to my ear and whispered. My breath hitched at how sensual he sounded.
âPleaseâ I managed to speak out. He didnât reply immediately, only gave me a reassuring smile before pulling it over my head, only leaving my bra. His lips found their way back up to mine, sending a surge of electricity through me. His hands worked their way to bottom of my bra, lifting it up and throwing it to the side as well. The cool air on my bare stomach and chest suddenly sent tingles all over my body, sending shivers down my spine and goosebumps all over my skin. He smiled at my reaction, continuing to caress my inner thigh.
âIs it okay if I take these off too?â he whispered, grazing the waistband of my shorts.
I let go of his arms and nodded my head yes, watching his expression change from relaxed to excited. I watched him pull those off and discard them as well, leaving only my thong on. âI hope this is okayâ he smiled. He was still looking at me with those intense eyes, making it difficult for me to breathe properly.
He removed the last piece of clothing from me, both my spandex and the shorts he gave me, revealing my beautiful skin and perfectly plump curves underneath. He took a few seconds to appreciate every inch of my body before sliding his slim fingers between my legs. Instinctively my knees fell apart slightly, allowing him access to my core which caused his eyes to darken even more. As he gently traced circles around my bud, sending me into complete ecstasy, I moaned loudly, moaning in pleasure as my hips began grinding into his finger tips.
âGod, youâre so prettyâ he whispered, trailing kisses along my cheek. I bit my bottom lip to suppress the moans coming out of my mouth as he continued to stroke the wetness inside of my thighs. âSo perfect.â
He spread my wetness all over his fingers and slid one finger inside of my desperate hole. At first, he started slowly, his thumb circling my clit while his middle finger slid in and out of my warm opening, slowly increasing the amount of pressure until I was gripping down onto his fingers with all of my strength. He increased the speed of his movements, adding another finger, pumping them hard into me. I closed my eyes and arched my back, trying my best to keep a good grip on his fingers.
âShit, youâre so wet angelâ he groans. He took his hand away to pull off his own shorts, with his boxers. His dick spring free, tip raging and dripping with precum. It was big, a lot bigger than I had expected.
I take all of his length into my fist as he continues contact with my folds. âFuck, that feels good, babyâ he says under his breath. I collect spit in my mouth and layer his tip and slide my hand up and down slowly.
I feel a familiar knot forming in my stomach as he keeps a consistent pace pumping his finger into my gushing pussy. âAgh yessâ I moan on his cock, feeling the burning sensation building up. He leans down to place a tender kiss on the back of my shoulder, his warm breath fanning my sensitive skin, causing my back arch even higher. "Let go babygirl"he murmurs against my shoulder.
I let my hand rest against his erection, stroking him slowly, feeling the tip get longer by the moment. Soon enough, I can no longer contain myself as I let the orgasm rip out of me. His name came spilling out of my mouth, followed by a loud moan âFuck Sunghoon, just like that.â I continue to hold on to him as the wave of pleasure takes over me, feeling my muscles start to seize up and my vision starting to blur.
As I'm regaining my composure, he pulls out of me, bringing his fingers up to his mouth. âYou taste so good, princessâ he praises, with sweat droplets forming in his forehead.My face turns red with embarrassment. I cover my face with my palms as I try to control my breathing. Sunghoon chuckles and grabs my wrists, pulling my hands away from my blushing face and places them on his cheeks instead. âDonât be embarrassed, babygirl. That was hotâ he says. My blush gets stronger by the second.
âLet me get you cleaned upâ he suggested, getting out of the bed to go to his bathroom where he kept his extra cloths. He came back with a small smile on his face. He runs the rag between my legs and said âI am really happy you decided to spend the nightâ
âMe too Sunghoonâ my smile only visible by the moonlight. He went back into the bathroom to put the cloth into the dirty clothes hamper.
âNow come hereâŚâ He brings his lips to meet mine once more. He wraps his arms around my sore body, making my face bury into his chest. Our bare skin resting against eachother was so relaxing. His skin was soft, and he was perfectly toned to my liking. He runs his fingers through my hair and begins to massage my scalp, making my whole body tremble. âItâs really late, sweetheart, letâs get some restâ he whispers and kisses my forehead, then rests his chin on the top of my head. As I lay there in Sunghoons embrace, feeling the warmth radiating off him, my eyes gradually fall shut.
Intimate
Pairing: Matt x Reader
Wordcount: 2.1k +
In wich: matt has a borderline obsession with cock warming
Warnings: smut, cock warming, p in v, use of y/n, 1st pov, praise kink, name calling (slut), pet names, unprotected, creampie
(A/N: English is not my first language! Also this song has like barely anything to do w the plot, I just feel like thatâs the vibe. This is sort of like a blurb. Hope you guys like it <3)
One of the considerably weird things Matt is into is: cock warming.
I clench at the thought trying to focus on my history homework.
Iâve known Matt for practically all my life. Weâve always been close and no conversation between us was ever awkward.
Matt didnât seem like the type to be into that sort of stuff. But one day, when, we were hanging out and cuddling like we were normally, I felt a hardness at my butt.
When I turned back to look at him he was blushing. Matt had his arms wrapped around my waist, spooning me.
After I asked him what that is, he responded with a question. âCan I..?â He trailed off and I wasnât catching on to his train of thought.
âWhat? you want to fuck?â I huff rolling my eyesâŚnot that I would be against it.
âNo.â He said defensively squeezing my sides. âCan I just put it in?â Matt asked shyly.
I paused, But eventually complied. With the duvet being over us it shouldnât be too awkward. He shuffled out of his sweatpants and pulled mine down too.
And before I knew it his finger was inside of me and I was wet.
After a few moments I felt the head of his dick press against me before feeling his entire length slide into me.
I never thought heâd be into that, but even further, I didnât think that Iâd like it too.
I shift feeling the angle change.
âY/n/n, can you stop moving.â Matt huffs, his words sounding passive aggressive. He puts one of his hands on my hips to prevent as much movement as possible, his other hand still clutching his phone.
I clench again at the tone of his voice, slamming my pen down.
Ever since that day, when this first started off, I started to sit on him more often. Whether it was while we were cuddling or just mindlessly hanging out. Weâre not necessarily friends with benefits tho.
I guess he just likes the feeling⌠but so do I.
It was bad, like we hung out so much Chris and Nick started to make joking remarks about it.
About us hanging out so much that is, not the⌠whatever weâre doing.
Like it was so bad that practically every time we were alone somewhere private, I was probably sitting on his dick.
It feels so intimate and good, and if we still have time after, heâll rail me.
But Iâm saying that when weâre at home doing homework, Iâm sitting on his lap. Or when cuddling or sleepovers. Or even when we go get fast food to eat in the parking lot at night. Iâll climb over the middle console and sit down on it.
I was never a skirt person, but I started to wear skirts more often just for the easier access.
I could go hours just calmly sitting on it.
But sometimes after a while I would get frustrated.
I try to grind into him, Matt still holding me in place as much as he can.
âWhat? You wanna get yourself off on my dick?â He huffs. His grip on my hip gets harder making me whine, while his other hand still holds his phone.
Heâd been scrolling through TikTok and various other social media while I was trying to get all of my homework done.
And itâs been probably over an hour now and I was getting frustrated from all the homework. doing math first was definitely a mistake.
And while on a normal day I would be fine with the intimacy and wouldnât be trying to get myself off, the homework today was frustrating. And since Matt was already balls deep inside of me, I might as well.
He leans over putting his phone on my desk. With the movement his hand on my hip loosens giving me the opportunity to start to slightly ride him.
âFuck-â i sigh. I lean forward on my arms, trying to get as much friction as I can, both on my sweet spot and also my clit.
I hear Mattâs low groan. And suddenly his hands are on my hips again, holding me in place.
âY/n I swear, i will make you cum over and over again until youâre seeing fucking stars if you donât fucking stop right now and go back to your homework.â
His tone is authoritative and so hot. Why was he saying that like it would be such a bad thing anyway.
âMatt please.â I whine.
Sometimes Matt would get frustrated and fuck me while I wasnât even paying him any mind, and sometimes it was the other way around.
He huffs letting go of my hips. Matt leans back as he just watched me and my every move.
I let out a shaky breath once again, leaning forward more to lift myself better.
âFucking slut, getting yourself off on your best friends dick.â He rolls his eyes in exasperation.
His hands go to my waist, assisting my movements now instead of stopping me.
âIf you cum Iâm still gonna Make you warm me.â He warns his tone assertive.
Matt holds me in place for a few seconds and scoots the chair back. I sigh leaning forward, using my forearms to prop me up, before starting to ride him again.
His eyes were heavy lidded, his mouth dropped in a silent moan while he watches me.
He somehow seemed way less sensitive than me. But I can literally feel the knot starting to tie In My stomach just waiting to snap.
By this point I was panting and Matt was letting out some heavy breaths too.
âFuck- Matt, Mattâ I whine his name my voice pitching higher as i keep getting closer.
âYou close baby?â He breaths out keeping his hands on my hips for stability.
I let out a sharp breath letting my head drop forward as I keep up the angle and speed up in order to reach my climax faster.
âYeah.â One of my hands go down to my clit to rub it, resulting in my other arm having to hold me up alone.
âCome then.â He demands, his voice sounding cocky. I can hear him breathe heavily and bite his lip to keep quiet.
With his hands tightening on my hips, I feel the knot in my stomach snap.
I let out a loud moan, piercing through the, otherwise, mostly quiet room.
I sit down again my pussy convulsing around his cock.
I sigh, trying to calm down again. Mattâs hands rub my sides, holding my back to his chest and mumbling sweet nothings into my ear.
âYou good?â He asks after I mildly catch my breath. I lean more into him, my eyes fluttering closed as I mumble an agreement.
âYou gonna go back to your homework now, orâŚ?â He trails off waiting for me to answer.
âNoâ I breathe out and slightly look over my shoulder to make eye contact with him.
He lets his huge grin take over his features. He picks me up gently, making me wince, to wich he whispers encouraging praises into my ear.
My back makes contact with my bed. I sigh at the feeling of the soft sheets under me. And I watch as Matt hurriedly takes off his shirt.
I was still wearing my mini skirt and a long sleeve shirt, but Matt didnât look like he was going to take them off. The access was easy, so really, why do the extra work.
Matt rubs my lower stomach, while his other hand holds his dick. He glides it up my folds before slipping it back into me. I whine at the feeling throwing my head back into the mattress.
Iâm still sensitive from my previous orgasm and also from the hour of cock warmingâs
It wasnât like he wasnât sensitive too. I could see him physically hold back from releasing right then and there.
Our eyes stay locked while he starts to rock his hips against me. I can feel him hit that spot in me that makes pure euphoria shoot through my entire body.
Despite not being labeled, it always felt so intimate with Matt.
Maybe it was because most of the time it was literally just cock warming and nothing else. But sometimes, when it did come to the actual intercourse - penetration type of thing, it still felt intimate.
âSo good for me baby.â He breaths out. Our eyes stay locked, my mouth dropped in quiet moans.
âFuck- you like being filled?â He chuckles. His hand stays on my lower abdomen, pressing down slightly to feel himself.
I close my eyes briefly trying to respond, but the way his hips snap into me, and the way he still manages to make this feel sensual, has my head fuzzy.
âFuck..â Matt breaths out his eyes staying locked on my face. âToo fucked out to answer now?â
All I can do is whine out his name and moan loudly, and he takes pride in that. I know he does. I can see it in his eyes.
âYou wanna be fucking full all the time, donât you baby?â Matt taunts, somehow speeding up even more.
I clench around him my legs going stiff at the constant and heavy stimulation.
Matt notices and readjusts, picking up my legs further so theyâre on his shoulders before he picks up pace again.
âCloseâ I whine out, I can feel the knot in my stomach getting tighter by the second, threatening to snap anytime now.
âGood girlâ he hums. Mattâs fingers find their way towards my clit as he starts to vigorously rub it.
âOh god-â I moan loudly throwing my head back, my eyes shutting tightly as I try not to get overwhelmed, even tho i already am.
âEyes on me.â Matt speaks lowly also panting. His movements pick up pace getting more rough and messy, indicating that heâs close too.
My eyes snap open, immediately meeting his. And as soon as they do, I feel my body convulse, my orgasm washing over me like a wave. But despite that, I try to keep my eyes on Matt as best as I can.
âSo pretty.â He breathes out harshly and before either of us know it, he gives me one last thrust and fills me up.
I pant, trying to catch my breath. I feel a thin layer of sweat coat my skin, but despite that, I love this feeling.
This post orgasmic state was sending me into almost as much euphoria as the sex itself.
I watch through lazy, heavy-lidded eyes as Matt sits up straighter, moving my legs from off of his shoulders.
âYou wanna clean up or sleep like this sweetheart?â He asks tilting his head. Matt was trying to contain a goofy smile.
âJust..â I trail off and let out a breath. Damn I didnât realize just how out of breath I am.
âJust lay down.â I breathe out.
He licks his lips his eyes wandering from my face to my body and how itâs still clothed.
âYou wanna sleep with clothes, orâŚâ he trails off. Mattâs eyes come to meet mine again with a playful glint.
âMatt, I donât careâ I say exasperated.
âI wanna cuddle?â He says like I said we wouldnât. I huff a slight laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation at hand.
Matt huffs trying and failing to hold back a smile. He gently and slowly pulls out in order to not hurt me. But I still wince from the over stimulation.
He pulls the skirt back down and than reaches for the zipper. He pulls the skirt off tossing it to the floor carelessly.
He then reaches for my long sleeve shirt. I sit up slightly so he can take that, and my bra also off.
Now being nude under him, he looks satisfied. He hums in approval and wordlessly lays down next to me, before I feel his arms go around my waist.
âYou think you can warm me, baby?â He whisper sweetly into my ear. I feel a shiver run down my spine from his tone of voice. My eyes shut I take in his silk like words.
âCorse.â I breathe out pushing my hips back into him to tease him.
Matt chuckles lowly. I feel his length slide through my folds. Still being soaked in our combined juices, it was fairly easy for him to slip back in, not that it didnât make me moan.
I felt way too sensitive, but like hell would I ever say no to this.
Matt chuckles at the low moan I let out. He has his arm spread out so I can lay on it his other arm around my waist. âYou do like being full?â He asks in fake shock.
âYou were the one that started this tho?â I question right back not moving at all. Simply keeping my eyes closed and enjoying the closeness and intimacy.
âTouchĂŠ.â
Heâs dead fucking wrong. You love your father, enough to not immediately say no, but heâs wrong. Itâs true you could use a girlsâ trip, perhaps even a couple of days out of town with your Dad, and heâs not entirely off about university being the death of you, kiddo â youâve spent one too many nights inhaling coffee and cramming for your finals. The idea of an all-inclusive trip is tempting, given the fact that all you manage to eat these days is pasta and store-bought pesto, if that.
Nevertheless, you need to keep studying, thereâs less than two weeks left until your exams, and although the trip is only a couple of days, you donât know Joel.
Sure, youâve been to his barbecues, and he let you use his bike one year when yours was stolen and your Dad refused to buy you a new one, because you should have locked it up in the first place. You know how he patched up your Dad after the divorce â you never worried about your mother, who was heartbroken, but able to talk about it to her family and friends. Your Dad was the one you spent sleepless nights over. The way the beer bottles accumulated in his garage, how distant he seemed on the phone. You know it was Joel who looked after him, made sure he left the house and had anything edible inside it. Youâre grateful for it, you are, but you donât really know him. For most of your life, he has been a friendly smile and wave over a fence, and youâre shy around people you know much better than the occasional hey kid, you back for the summer? or if you see your Dad, tell him I borrowed his screwdriver, Iâll put it back tomorrow.
You do feel slightly guilty your Dad canât go on his trip. He broke his leg, and although itâs not entirely your fault he slipped, you had been the one to mop the stairs right before the accident. As much as your Dad was looking forward to his vacation, after a week he had to admit a beach holiday would be little fun with a whole leg in plaster.
You sigh, staring at your phone screen, tapping on it every once in a while to keep it from turning black. Heâs expecting an answer soon, you know he is. Who the hell books non-refundable trips anyway? When you get the time, youâll need to tell him about a lovely invention that is insurance.
You glance over at the stack of unfinished coursework on your desk, your laptop taunting you with its quiet â no responses to the millions of job applications you have sent out have come through. At this rate, youâll be jobless in a couple of months, when you finish your degree. Youâll have to live with either of your parents forever, no money for any sort of vacation whatsoever.
"Oh, screw it,â you mutter, unlocking your phone, and typing quickly.
Iâll do it. Only because my A+ cleaning is the reason you canât go. Tell Joel to bring something to read, I need to study.
***
"Itâd be a shame if it went to waste, kiddo, Iâm glad youâre doing this.â
"Yeah,â you answer, thinking of the endless powerpoint slides you havenât even looked at yet. "Maybe studying at the beach works wonders.â
Thereâs a knock on the door, and you move to open it, your Dad chained to his chair by his broken leg. Youâre not particularly excited about the smalltalk youâll have to make with your Dadâs friend, but if you remember correctly, Joel is as much the quiet type as you are, and might actually appreciate your studying. Great, you think, at least one of us will enjoy it, then.
When you open the door, the first thing that strikes you is how hard you find it to envision Joel at the beach â heâs all mountains and trees to you, with his lumberjack boots and flannel shirt. His smile is friendly, and only gains warmth when he notices the critical look you give his outfit.
"I know,â he says, voice deep and quiet, "Iâm king of dressing for the occasion.â
You grin, and open the door wider.
"Come on in. Dadâs in the living room. Whatâs with theâŚuhâŚâ
Your voice trails off, as you gesture towards his distinctly un-vacationy clothes.
"Thought you might bail,â Joel answers easily, stepping into the house. "Canât imagine youâre overly thrilled about this.â
You think about denying it, but this is your chance to come clean about how you would much prefer keeping to yourself and preparing for your finals, so you sigh.
"Well, itâs kinda my fault Dad was, like, almost paralyzed from the neck down, so I figured the least I could do was not let his trip go to waste. Iâve got finals in two weeks, so the timing isâŚsuboptimal.â
"Yeah, your Dad said. I brought reading material, so I wonât bother you too much.â
Heâs easy, you realize. Easy to talk to, and easy to accept your reluctance to bond with an almost-stranger, quick to make you feel comfortable by hinting at that boundary. You smile back, and are struck by how he holds your eye contact until you break it yourself, nodding towards your suitcase.
"Think this will fit inside the car?â
"Sure,â he answers, "Iâve got a Bronco.â
You have no idea what that means, but you assume itâs a good thing, so you smile vaguely.
"Itâs an SUV,â Joel explains with a hint of good-natured amusement in his voice.
"Right,â you say, attempting to overplay your obvious lack in car-knowledge, "SUV. One of the big ones.â
It makes Joel smile again, and you notice the wrinkles around his eyes that make his face look all sunny.Â
"Yeah,â he says. "One of the big ones.â
You lead him into the living room to say good-bye to your Dad, whoâs expression is a weird mixture of sombre and excited at the sight of his daughter and best friend getting ready to drive to the airport.
"Take care of her, Joel,â he says, when youâre getting ready to leave.
"Donât worry,â Joel answers with a pat to your fatherâs arm. "Iâve got her.â
"Iâm twenty-three,â you remind your father, "Iâve done more dangerous things than a trip to the beach.â
"Yeah, but youâre still my little girl,â he answers with a smile, squeezing your hand. You squeeze back, though his comment irritates you.
"See ya, Dad. Call me if somethingâs wrong with your leg, alright?â
"Sure, kiddo. Have fun, you two, and bring me a seashell.â
Joel grins at the open envy on your Dadâs face.
"Weâll go on another trip next year,â he says in an attempt to cheer him up.
"Yeah, yeah,â your Dad answers, glancing at his watch. "Better get going, or youâll miss the flight.â
"Weâll be fine, Joelâs got a fast car,â you argue, "AÂ Bronco. Thatâs an SUV.â
Joel snorts.
***
Joel lets you take the window seat and plops down next to you, legs slightly spread so as to fit into the little space the two of you have. His leg nudges yours, and he pulls it back immediately, though you can see how uncomfortable it must be with his knees pressing into the seat in front of him. You move your legs towards the window with a glance at Joel, who looks grateful and is able to relax his muscles into a more comfortable position without invading your space.
"Thanks,â he mutters, "Fucking hate flying.â
So do you, though not because youâre too big to fit into the space, and not because youâre afraid â mostly because itâs boring. Sure, takeoff is exciting, but you get nauseous from watching movies and the plane is much too loud to really enjoy your music the way you would lying on your bed at home. You could study, you suppose, but you tell yourself you wouldnât be able to concentrate and kick your backpack further under your seat. Joel notices and chuckles.
"Finals, huh? You almost done with your degree?â
You canât imagine him finding your boring university struggles interesting, but youâre not exactly fantastic at smalltalk, so you take the conversation heâs offering you.
"Iâve got one more year, but Iâve got to do a six month internship, and write my thesis, so yeah, this is, like, the last of my regular classes and exams.â
"You enjoy it?â
The question is strikingly honest, like he really wants to know, like itâs fine if you donât. You look at him, his eyes already on your face, and for a second you think how handsome he is. You didnât notice before, when he was just the owner of a bike you could conveniently borrow, when life was all skinned knees and staying up till sun-down. Now, he looks like an equal, like someone who wants to know about your life, someone you want to know about yourself. The change is a little unsettling, but thrilling. You realize you havenât answered him, so you clear your throat.
"Sure, itâs alright. Not what I would have done if money didnât matter, but it does, soâŚI can be content with it.â
Joel considers this, eyes still lingering on your face, as the plane starts speeding up for takeoff.
"What would you do if money didnât matter?â
You shrug, and smile to yourself.
"Creative writing, maybe. Or English lit.â
"You always were the smart one in your family,â Joel answers with a chuckle.
You glance at him, and feel a pang of something warm in your stomach as he compliments you. When the plane takes off, you look out of the window, but get the feeling Joelâs eyes keep looking at you. It makes your skin prickle, though not at all unpleasantly.
***
You get to the hotel when the sun is high in the sky, burning the top of your head and making you long for a shower and an ice-cold coke. Joel courteously carries your suitcase and although you donât want to inconvenience him, you donât mind the way his muscles bulge under the weight, arms straining against the navy shirt he had underneath his flannel. You wonder how heâs not suffocating in the heat, wearing his thick jeans and boots.
When you get to the front desk, he fishes his phone out of his pocket, searching for his reservation details with furrowed brows. You smile when you notice he uses two hands to scroll. It takes him a couple of minutes, cursing under his breath, and you smile at the lady, who smiles back, patiently waiting for Joel to find the right email.
"Sorry,â you say to her, and try to catch a glimpse at Joelâs phone, so as to figure out whatâs taking him so long. "Need some help?â
He throws you an offended look that makes you grin, and finally shows the lady his phone. She smiles, types something into her computer and gets out two room keys.
"Go easy on your Daddy, itâs easier when you grew up with the internet,â she says, handing you each a keycard. You feel Joel stiffen beside you, and your stomach flutters.
"Hereâs your keycards, youâre on the third floor. Enjoy your stay!â
"Thanks,â Joel mumbles, taking the cards and handing them to you, before grabbing the two suitcases. He huffs, when you walk around a corner and towards the elevators.
"She was makinâ fun of me,â he says accusingly when the lady is out of earshot, as if that would be your fault. You snort, all of a sudden feeling giddy at the prospect of being at the beach soon, your holiday only a couple of minutes away.
"I donât think so, she was trying to help you by blaming your incompetence on your age,â you say, Joel looking at you like he canât believe what you said.
"Sorry.â Your voice is quivering with amusement at how offended he is. "Daddy.â
That makes him clear his throat, and if your eyes arenât playing a trick on you, his cheeks turn a shade darker. Bingo.
"Donât say shit like that,â Joel grumbles, "âM not that old.â
"How old are you, then?â
"Why?â, he asks, eyes meeting yours, and suddenly youâre the one blushing, your stomach swirling with something you definitely should not be feeling for your Dadâs best friend. Joel shakes his head. "Donât start something neither of us can finish, kid.â
Itâs just an offhand-comment about the way you jokingly flirted, but you feel all bashful all of a sudden. His mention of there being something to potentially start, the fact that the possibility even crossed his mindâŚwhen you look up at him again and watch him press a button on the elevator, you study the grey patches in his beard, the way his jaw clenches and unclenches as youâre waiting, his thick fingers drumming against the handle of his suitcase. Itâs not what you expected to happen, but Joelâs got you intrigued.
***
You both agree to take a shower, get settled in and meet outside the rooms in half an hour â theyâre neighboring, so itâs not far. Youâre too lazy to properly unpack, so you just grab a bikini and a comfortable white sundress to change into after your shower. The water is welcome on your skin, washing away the grit and sweat of the hours spent on the plane, and you feel like a new person when you step out of the bathroom. You put on sandals and a pair of sunglasses, grab sunscreen, your books and notes for class, and a bottle of water, and throw it all into your beach bag, then head for the door. Joel is already waiting for you, leaning against the wall opposite your door wearing a different shirt, red swimming trunks and dark sunglasses. Heâs got a towel thrown over his shoulder and you grin.
"Raw-dogging the beach?â, you ask, which makes him furrow his brows.
"The hell does that mean?â
You snort at his obvious annoyance at your innuendo.
"It means youâre only bringing a towel, nothing to entertain yourself with,â you explain, gesturing towards your bag. Joel shakes his head, still frowning.
"Iâm going to the beach, not the library,â he answers, and starts walking towards the elevators, his flip-flops making their soft sound on the floor. Your gaze flickers down towards his legs, his swimming trunks revealing tan thighs.
"Cominâ?â
You swallow, and catch up with him.
***
Heâs fucking gorgeous. Itâs a problem, how gorgeous he is, tan torso, swimming trunks low on his hips, bits of dark hair scattered across his chest and soft belly. His shoulders are wide, like they were made for swimming, his hair glistening as he shakes like a wet dog when he comes up for air. You have been staring at the same page for far too long now, but thereâs no way Joel is able to notice your staring, not when youâre wearing your sunglasses and heâs busy swimming.
You know itâs a bad idea, that thereâs no good that can come from crushing on a man twice your age, more than that, even. You know he must surely see the girl who came over to borrow his bike with tears of anger in her eyes every time he looks at you, and you know how much he respects your father.
Still, you are allowed to have fun. Youâre doing this for your Dad more than anything, and youâve been bending over backwards trying to make him proud with your good grades, so if thereâs something youâre able to get out of this trip, you figure youâre at least allowed to look. And anyway, itâs not hurting anyone. Itâs just natural, the half-naked bodies and blissful relaxation would affect anyone who has spent the last four months cramped up in a little dorm room.
You watch Joel swim towards the beach again, rising out of the water like some sort of Poseidon sent to personally make this trip unbearable for you. You think of his reaction when you teasingly called him Daddy, and swallow.
"Fuck,â you mumble to yourself, when he tugs on his swimming trunks so that they donât slide over his hips, dripping water onto the dry sand all around him. He smiles at you as he makes his way over to your spot â two deckchairs shielded by a parasol.
"Wow,â Joel says sarcastically, when he looks at your book, still on page two. "Real page turner, huh?â
You blush, and open your mouth to defend yourself, but Joelâs expression softens, all biting humor gone, as he grabs his towel.
"Youâre allowed to take a break from studying, you know?â
You watch him dry himself off, big hands rubbing the towel over his chest and stomach, leaving his legs to dry on their own, as he lays down on his deckchair.
"Easy to say, youâre not the one who has to face my Dad if you fail all your exams.â
Joel turns his head towards you, and youâre struck by how gentle his expression is.
"I know he can be a hard ass, but I guarantee you youâre not goinâ to fail all your exams, kid.â
You sigh and shrug.
"He give you a hard time âcause of your grades?â
"No,â you answer quickly, all of a sudden feeling defensive of your father. "I just wannaâŚmake him proud.â
Joel smiles.
"I know for a fact youâre doinâ that without even tryinâ. And anyway, itâs good to take breaks. Letâs your brain cool off and absorb information much better afterwards.â
Canât argue with that logic, you think and close your book with a thud. Joel grabs it from you and throws it into your beach bag.
"I grant you two hours of studying each day,â he says, and you have to laugh. "The rest is for having fun, gettinâ tan and drinkinâ cocktails."
Itâs preposterous, that he would order you around like that after you told him you need to study, back before you even made it to the airport. But something is different here, away from your desk, and your Dadâs broken leg (and the rest of him, for that matter). Joel and you have fallen into an easy dynamic, and although itâs unusual, your reservations are gone. Youâre actually looking forward to spending time with him, and not just because of the way his belly nudges against the waistband of his swimming trunks, or how his accent seems to thicken in the sun.
"Fine,â you say, "but youâre paying for my tuition if I do end up failing, Miller.â
He grins at you.
