OCTOBER AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: MISSGRYFFIN
Q: Where can we find you and your stories?
A: @missgryffin, AO3
Q: How would you describe your writing style?
A: Intense, sexy, snappy, and fast-paced. I have a rampant imagination and love a good sexual tension build-up, so my fics usually include a lot of plot, drama, and (of course) smut.
Q: How do you come up with ideas for your writing?
A: It’s such a grab-bag. A pretty substantial number of my fics have originated from prompts, actually! I also draw a lot on TV shows/movies I’ve seen, novels I’ve read, tropes I see that I’m inspired to try, etc. Also, I find that a lot of my ideas actually form while I’m writing. I’ll go in with a sense of direction, but it’s not until I’m writing and really in the thick of it that the details take shape, and then new ideas begin to spout off from there, based on what I learn about what the characters and story need.
Q: When and why did you begin writing fanfiction?
A: Technically, during the two-year wait between the releases of books 5 and 6, because I was utterly HP obsessed, my imagination was in overdrive thinking about what could happen in the final two books, and I had discovered MuggleNet fanfiction / FFN by that point, so I’d been devouring all of that early era of HP fanfic. I actually have a giant binder of my own fanfic writing from that period; I would type up stories in Word, format them with fun fonts and fan art covers I found online, and print them out for myself. (Which, I still do this!) Fun fact: there’s even a Marauders story in there that I had completely forgotten about that has a striking resemblance to the bones of Eternal Summer. It genuinely freaked me out a little when I found it, ha!
But even though I wrote creatively through most of my childhood/school phases of life, I had taken a pretty substantial break in early adulthood and didn’t “return” to writing until the pandemic in 2020. Life was bizarre, Netflix had gotten boring, and I was craving a creative outlet or hobby that could make lockdown bearable. I randomly stumbled my way back to fanfic / fandom, and here we are!
Q: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is considering reading one of your fics?
A: Buckle up! 🎢 Also, I hope you are either i) at home, or ii) have a really great NSFW poker face 😅 But to give a more serious answer, I’d say that I write a wide range of tones, and I really lean in to what that tone is. If a fic is tagged for fluff and crack, it will be so adorably sweet and cringe-funny that your face will hurt from smiling. If a fic is tagged for angst and darker themes, it will feel like a knife to the gut. (If it’s tagged for all of the above—cough Eternal Summer cough—you’re at the front of a line for a wild rollercoaster, my friend!) Since I write both extremes, I’m never offended when readers skip fics or prefer one “genre” to another. But please know that Jily is always endgame in all of my stories—that’s the whole reason why we’re here 💗
Q: What are some of your favorite Jily tropes?
A: Enemies to lovers is my #1, even if it’s more of that “enemies-ish” rivalry at the beginning. There’s just nothing more quintessentially Jily to me than the process of them discovering more layers to the other person and slowly realizing that the other person is so much more than the antagonist they’d built up in their head. (And that they -gasp- actually…like them! Worse, they like them like them! A lot!) Gets me every time.
Other favorites include There Was Only One Bed, Hurt/Comfort, and Forced Proximity/Stuck/Trapped.
Q: What do you like most about the Jily fandom?
A: That we celebrate how much of a power couple Jily is. I’m going to quote @jilyss’ answer for this because it’s so true: we understand James has an arrogant streak but grew up, we celebrate Lily for the intelligent, strong, cool, bamf woman she is, and we appreciate how they’re true, complementary equals finding real, raw love with one another. (And also all the wonderful reader and fellow-writer friends I’ve made! 😘)
Q: Pick a favourite Marauders era character.
A: My man JP. From only the few hints we get about him in the books, we know he’s such a dynamic person, and I really love bringing him to life. Also, his growth/redemption story deserved more air-time, so I’m glad fanfic is here to fill that gap.
Q: Self-promo time! List the fics that you are most proud of writing.
A:
Eternal Summer – My first born! Even though it’s far from being finished and needs a lot of work, I’m really proud of the world-building I’ve done thus far.
Vindicated – This was thrilling for me to write because it’s a total departure from what I’d previously written: second chances, canon-divergent AU, American settings, original characters, more adult relationship, etc. I have more planned for this universe and I’m really excited for it.
for the hope of it all – My latest completed fic. I challenged myself to write a softer, friends-to-lovers, mutually pining kind of summer fic, and this came together in a flood. But what makes me proud is that with this fic, I could really see how much my writing has evolved and improved from those early ES days.
Q: Fic rec time! Could you recommend a few of your favourite Jily fics?
A:
Of Chrysalism by @maraudersftw – It’s only a short one-shot, but the way this fic haunts me!! Exquisite.
The Wedding Ring by @mppmaraudergirl – Lauren is the Nancy Meyers of Jily, and this fic is the epitome of that. A total comfort fic for me; I want it to be a movie that I can play in my living room over and over again until I know it by heart.
Eighteen Again by @scriibble-fics – If I didn’t know scriibble was getting her PhD in History, I’d think she was a screenwriter. The world-building in this fic is like no other—I’m in a constant state of chills when I read it. The emotional depth, the heartbreak, the romance, the political intrigue…it’s one of those fics that never leaves you.
Thank you @missgryffin for letting us ‘interview’ you and for sharing your fics with us! ❤️

Bound by Destiny II, part 1 ― Chapter 11: The Auction
PAIRING: Kamilah Sayeed x MC (Nadya Al Jamil) RATING: Mature
⥼ MASTERLIST ⥽
⥼ Bound by Destiny II, part 1 ⥽
While struggling with nightmares of lives she’s never lived, a shadow from the past looming over her city, and the proposed idea that her life may just be a little bit too weird to handle alone, Nadya makes sure to tell herself that everything is perfect just the way it is. If only. When the self-proclaimed King of Vampires (and Maker of her sometimes-girlfriend and always-boss, can’t forget that little tidbit) Gaius Augustine returns intent on claiming Manhattan as the throne that was promised, she and her friends find themselves forced into the task of saving the world. But with millennia-old vampires and an Order of hunters on their heels as well as allies hiding catastrophic secrets at their backs… it won’t be an easy task. Too bad destiny didn’t exactly ask for her input.
Bound by Destiny II and the rest of the Oblivion Bound series is an ongoing dramatic retelling project of the Bloodbound series and spin-off, Nightbound. Find out more [HERE].
*Let me know if you would like to be added to the Destiny II tag list!
⥼ Chapter Summary ⥽
The Amulet is one bid away, but they aren't the only vampires willing to pay whatever cost. Valdas and Isseya have their own ideas about ensuring Gaius' victory... or is it their own? It's hard to tell.

Taylor reaches the pair of vampires before the rest of them can make it down the stairs.
He approaches with an authority one wouldn’t expect to see from someone as human-looking as he is.
“Is there a problem here?” He doesn’t look at Valdas when he speaks — it’s immediately clear he couldn’t give less of a damn what the man has to say. He only cares about Cadence.
Taylor reaches out and places a tentative hand on the taller man’s arm. “Cade, are you okay?” But he doesn’t get an answer.
When Valdas recovers from the shock of being interrupted, he doesn’t come out on the other end nearly as caring as he’d sounded before. “This doesn’t concern you, halfling.”
But Taylor’s the type to take anything, whether it ‘concerns him’ or not, and stick his nose in it regardless.
“Back off, man. I think it’s pretty plain he doesn’t want you around.”
“He doesn’t know what he wants. Get out of my way.”
“Touch me and see what happens.”
With a scoff the vampire reaches for Taylor’s shoulder, and Nadya almost trips in her haste because she’s seen the way Valdas can get when he’s angry. But even the barest touch and she watches in startled awe as Taylor’s shoulder… sparks? Whatever it is it gets Valdas to back off.
“First one’s a freebie. Next time I’m gonna let my trigger-happy boyfriend up there go to town.”
So behind him Valdas watches, uncharacteristically silent as he takes in the sudden ease Cadence feels at the presence of his friend. As Nadya and the others push their way through to the bar she sees the barest shadow of doubt in his eyes before it vanishes without a trace. Replaced by cool nonchalance and an all-too-familiar smug smile.
Only it’s directed a little higher than Nadya’s glare.
“Adrian, you’re looking well.”
Anger flashes over Adrian’s face and he actually draws his fist back ready to swing. “Don’t,” and when Nadya grabs his elbow she knows if he really wanted to she would have just been hurled along for the ride but thankfully it’s enough to stop him, “he’s just baiting you.”
“If he thinks he can just stand there and get away with kidnapping you —”
The smallest furrow creases in Valdas’ brow. “Did I not ensure her safe return?”
“You think that justifies it?!” Adrian practically roars. Around them more and more guests and eager bidders turn away from their conversations and card games to watch the unfolding events.
But if she doesn’t get to yell right now neither does Adrian. It’s only fair.
Taylor gives her a panicked look. “You guys need to cool it or they’ll kick us out.” Calm him down or something, his eyes scream. And in this Nadya hates it — like really really hates it — but she has to agree.
“We can’t risk it Adrian, please.” Because there’s no question as to why Valdas is here; why Isseya is probably somewhere slithering in the shadows. Which means they need a game plan, like, yesterday. “Please, Adrian, come on…”
But Adrian is still tense under her touch. “He’s not worth it.” Though that she says loud enough so more than just the vampires can hear her. “He’s too pathetic for that.”
It would have been nice to see him look anything even on the spectrum of shamed but Valdas just quirks his brow slightly. “Tactful as ever, Miss Nadya.” Then, voice lowered slightly; “You look in good health.”
“Yeah, no thanks to you.” She darts a quick look behind him. “Where’s Isseya?”
“Why do you care?” Valdas asks, genuinely surprised.
“Because she has a funny habit to trying to kill me.”
“There needn’t be any bloodshed tonight — or ever again.”
“You two are the ones who keep resorting to violence.” She can still feel a phantom of the pain where she’d all but been dragged by the hair…
Valdas chances half a step forward; Nadya refuses to trust the false regret in his eyes ever again. “I told you, Nadya, that going forward my acts will not entirely be of my own will.”
“Like I’m supposed to believe you; like you haven’t lied to me over and over again?”
“Perhaps, but where words can lie I’ve found that memories have no choice but to reveal the truth.”
What — does he want her to look into his head again; to push Adrian aside and take his hand and see some hidden truth? No way.
Nadya’s brow furrows, resolute.
“If you were really worth trusting you wouldn’t need to lie at all.”
The vampire’s sigh weighs heavy on his shoulders. He doesn’t get the chance to lie to her again.
The clanging of a gong rings high over their heads and echoes through the center of the club manor-house. Now they really need to get going. Nadya jerks her head for Lily to help her pull Adrian back. Eventually — a little too late in her opinion but better late than never — he eases up. The sharper edges of his eyes seem to smooth out.
He shakes his head as if clearing a fog. “I’m sorry, I just…”
“We’ll talk about it later.” But despite her smile Nadya taps him with the back of her hand. “And we are talking about it later, Adrian.”
It’s a threat as much as it is a promise. He’d better believe it.
“C’mon, Cade,” Taylor tries to coax the man forward with a little push; and Nadya’s pretty sure she’s not supposed to hear the next bit but she’s too close not to catch when Taylor mutters under his breath; “what’s up with you lately, man? You’ve been like this for a month now…”
“It’s nothing.” Cadence replies just shy of a whisper.
“It doesn’t feel like ‘nothing.’”
“Then maybe you shouldn’t go poking around in my emotions.”
“I can’t help that. You’re like a bullhorn in a church.”
They almost make it to the stairs — and a waiting, arms-over-her-chest doesn’t-know-yet-if-she-wants-to-hug-him-or-strangle-him Katherine. Almost.
“It was not my intention to cause you such distress… Cadence.” Valdas calls at their backs; he says the name like it’s acid on his tongue but every other word is sincere enough to make Nadya’s heart hurt in an odd way.
She’s pretty sure if it weren’t for his friends practically forcing him forward Cadence might have actually turned back. Even if only for a moment.
But the only one who does is Lily — and that’s just to give him a finger Nadya doesn’t approve of. But this once she’ll just keep her mouth shut.
Before they get back to Isadora, Lily holds her behind from the others. Adrian is too lost in his own thoughts to notice. Taylor throws them a raised eyebrow, but it’s all good.
Thankfully, her best friend keeps her voice to a low level. The fae with his black box is still skirting around the edges of the booths. They must have something to do with the auction. “Firstly, you make some bonkers friends.”
“You know you’re my friend, right?”
“My point stands.” And yeah, fair, Nadya will give her that. “Second, if Gomez is here there’s no doubt Morticia is somewhere nearby. But what if that means…”
Thankfully there’s no Addams Family analogy equivalent for the hellspawn of all evil that is Gaius Augustine, but Nadya presses a finger up against Lily’s lips anyway. “Don’t… don’t say it.”
On some level all of them probably had that same thought during their miniature confrontation. It’s inevitable.
Lily kisses her finger aside. “You know what I mean, though?” And she sneaks glances about as subtle as the hulking Minotaur stomp-stomping his way across the bar floor down below.
“Yeah, I do. But I don’t think he’s here, Lil’.” I would have felt him.
All the way across that long long table where he couldn’t be denied. No matter what he looked like, Gaius didn’t seem the type to see an event as splendorous as this and find himself content to hide away from the spotlight. “It’s his scene, but I think if he were here we would have known it by now.”
“What, we’d be on our knees worshiping him or something?”
Nadya laughs dry and humorless. “No — we’d be dead.”
They arrive back to the booth in time for the lights cast off from the chandelier to glow a rich white-blue. Isadora unfurls the ever-changing parchment of lots and bids and states the obvious; “It’s beginning…” And suddenly there’s a whole new kind of tension hanging around the exclusive vampire club table.
The first lot is a statue that the auctioneer claims is made from solid ruby. It definitely looks that way, but while the prices jump higher and higher, the bids coming in faster and faster in the pursuit of the luxurious, Nadya can’t fathom who would want it — or why for that matter.
It sells for twelve and a half million dollars to a stone troll wearing, of all things, a cape. She looks like she’s made of pure rubies, herself.
From where he’s perched leaning against their booth, Nadya notices Taylor looking a little paler than before. “You okay?” she whispers.
He nods and tugs at his collar. “Yeah, just thinking of how quickly I could pay off my student loans with that kind of money.”
“Preach.”
Lot the second is a brightly-polished sword. When the goblin offering closer looks comes around their way Nadya can see her reflection clear as day in the flat of the blade… if her reflection were that of a much younger girl with close-cropped hair and the weight of ages pushed deep into the sunken parts of her face gaunt with starvation.
“That’s mine…” she mumbles, and almost finds herself reaching out for it before the goblin snatches it away in yellow-skinned clutches with a sneer.
“To look! Not to touch!”
Nadya yanks her hand back as if stung. Isadora isn’t interested in the blade and waves him off, but she’s too good not to have noticed her little exchange. Not like she’s hiding anything though — after all the woman’s been inside her head. She knows the parts of the story Nadya carefully left out.
Wow, the bids scrolling by on the parchment Adrian watches ever-vigilant sure look fascinating…
The sword sells for 3 million and an added black flame candle to a fae with green tones in their skin. Lily watches the unlit candle trade owners and hands with wide eyes. “You think if we light it we’ll summon Bette Midler?”
Nadya shrugs — at this point anything is possible. Taylor grins and leans in conspiratorially.
“Black flame isn’t so hard,” he whispers with a mischievous grin, “it’s actually a type of fae fire. Remind me to show you before you guys book it back to New York.” And judging by the way Lily’s looking at him she’ll hold him to it — like a ‘literally will not get on the plane until she sees it’ kind of deal.
Lots three-through-five she forgets; obviously they weren’t memorable things. That or whatever’s in the little cocktails an attendant keeps bringing around packs a harder punch than she thought.
Lot six is rusty iron nail and that’s when things start to get weird.
“Sixty!—Seventy-five!—Three hundred!” calls out the auctioneer with barely a breath between them.
And these are in the millions.
Nadya still can’t figure out what’s so awesome about something that looks like it rolled under the shelves at a hardware store when it just becomes a repetitive game with the same two players.
The auctioneer goblin raises his aging, sickly green hand and a hushed silence falls over the entire club. “It seems we have our first bidding war for the night…” And he looks way too gleeful for Nadya’s comfort.
“If the bidders would join us down on the floor, come come…”
She looks to Isadora and Adrian, already in intent discussion about which lot the Amulet could be based on how much people have already thrown out. Cadence might as well be asleep and Katherine…
Katherine shakes her head. “You don’t want to see that, Nadya. Trust me on this one.”
Thank god Lily’s just as confused. “What’s so valuable about a friggin’ nail?”
“It’s what the nail does,” murmurs Cadence; and surprises them all by doing so, “it’s a cursing nail. Old magics banned in New Orleans and likely not practiced outside of the birth places of their magical foci. Whoever takes home the nail takes with them the ability to curse anyone they wish unrepentant.
“The curse could be something as simple and clean-cut as death, or something as vengeful and specific as the cursed person losing everyone they hold even the barest affection for.”
Down below and graciously out of sight comes the screech of breaking glass; the crowd roars and laughs in bloodthirsty delight. Nadya’s really glad she didn’t go watch at the railing, now.
“But if it’s banned here, how can they sell the nail?”
“It’s the act of the magic that’s banned; but the curse can be put in place anywhere in the world. Unfortunately it’s like Lily said…” he sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose, “there’s nothing illegal about a simple nail.”
Nadya watches as a silent and haunted look passes between the city locals. Katherine jerks her chin towards the other side of the balconies and Taylor barely offers Nadya a smile of farewell before he’s racing away like the Devil is chasing him.
“Lot six for a generous six hundred and thirty!”
She didn’t even catch who won.
Maybe that’s for the best.
“Next up we have here a modest luxury to be certain, very pretty very heavy but don’t let that leave you wanting — lot seven, the famed Amulet of Nero.”
Nadya grasps Adrian’s hand on instinct.
While the auctioneer starts talking up the history of the Amulet, the same goblin as before comes around with a heavy wooden case, the lid propped open and the Amulet resting inside. Large and gold with a pendant piece probably half the size of Nadya’s fist; she has no trouble recognizing it at first glance.
It’s hers. Well — Gaius’, but also hers in a way. It calls to her in the same way the sword did and then some. The dark red center stone catches the light and reflects it across all their faces but she feels it like a siren song. Like she wants the light all to herself.
What Nadya didn’t expect was the way it holds everyone else captive as well. Well — everyone but Katherine. She gives it a glance and that’s that but the vampires? They’re transfixed.
With a greedy grin glinting on pointed teeth the goblin strides away to show it off to the next booth of potential buyers. The moment the Amulet is out of sight the effect is immediate; a held breath released across the booth that leaves the humans meeting eyes with the same kind of confused understanding.
“Okay… you guys felt that, right?” Lily asks, and Nadya hasn’t seen her this flushed since she was alive, “Please tell me that wasn’t just me because there is nothing I own that would match that thing.”
Isadora clears her throat and visibly shifts where she sits. Clearly never a woman out of her own control, having it happen twice in the such a short amount of time has her ill at ease. “No — there is a powerful energy to the thing. At least we won’t have to worry about confirming its authenticity.”
“Which means the Trinity know it’s the real deal, too.” Nadya says. She doesn’t want to, but ignoring the problem won’t make it go away. Trust her — she’s tried.
Adrian runs a hand over his mouth; his expression hard to read and Nadya doesn’t like not knowing what’s going on his head for this long. Frankly he’s been acting strange ever since they touched down in Louisiana but now isn’t the time for her to start up an argument about that. Once they have the Amulet safe and in hand, though…
“Are you ready?” When he doesn’t look up Nadya nudges his shoulder with hers. “Adrian, if this is gonna be too much —”
“Double the starting bid.” He says instead; and Isadora nods in agreement.
That answers that, I guess.
The auctioneer starts at fifty thousand. Isadora scribbles their bid down on the bespelled parchment. Not a breath after—
“Three million.”
The pen breaks in her grasp. Wordlessly Adrian pulls one from his breast pocket and all but shoves it at her.
Awesome. Really just… super great.
Three million. Then four. Then six — ten — one hundred. Every time the number goes up even the slightest bit—bam—a number almost unreasonably high. But there’s no question as to who’s to blame.
But as she watches the Trinity alone in their booth on the far side of the floor it becomes more and more obvious that their calm is nothing more than a ruse. Sure they rest against the richness of Persephone like they belong but their drinks are untouched, the tension enough to deter attendees and attendants alike. Nadya has a feeling you don’t need to be psychic to feel the energy coming off of them in waves of approach and die.
One thing’s for certain: the Trinity’s tactic of throwing larger numbers out of left field works quickly to deter anyone who might have a passive interest in winning. While all the other lots had taken up decent chunks of the passing hours, the Amulet of Nero is already halfway to one billion dollars in under ten minutes.
Isadora bumps up their bid by a meager million. Immediately Nadya looks across the way again.
Isseya and Valdas whisper together, heads lowered and in an intense debate. If she didn’t know any better she might even call it an argument — one that obviously can’t be that bad since it ends in a firm kiss pressed to the vampiress’ forehead.
She eases herself out of the booth shortly after. Turns back and lets one last longing look pass between them before disappearing around a roped-off doorway — and deeper into Persephone’s depths.
Really, Nadya tries not to let herself dwell on the whole thing. After all even vampires have to go powder their noses, right? But then Valdas rolls up his scroll and sets it aside. The auctioneer doesn’t call out a counter to Isadora’s most recent bid.
“In an unprecedented turn of events a bidding war has… been requested,” he says instead, and its obvious his scaling lips curl around the words with no small amount of confusion, “but does the opposing party accept?”
Valdas abandons the booth as well. Nadya is so trained on his every step that she doesn’t feel her body being moved until Adrian is gently pushing her aside; face set grim and determined.
“Adrian…”
But he barely spares her a look back. “Everything will be fine Nadya, I promise.” But there are no promises, not here. Not when there are two thousand years separating him and Valdas and not one of those in Adrian’s favor.
“The bidders will be joining us on the main floor, if they please.”
Nadya nudges Katherine’s leg under the table. “Kathy — quick — what’s back there?”
The Nighthunter follows her eyes to the doorway Isseya had vanished through. “Just the rest of the club,” she answers (unhelpfully), “party rooms, play rooms, bedrooms; that sort of stuff. But it looks closed off for the auction.”
“And what happens to a lot once the bidding is finished?”
“The house keeps it until the end of the night. Gives people time if they bid more than they have on them.” She looks Nadya over with a frown. “Why?”
The two vampires reach the opposing staircases at the same time.
“I suppose there’s nothing that could sway you?” asks Valdas.
Adrian scoffs. “And if I gave you the same offer?”
“I would say yes.”
There’s an unrepentant honesty that almost—almost—makes Adrian falter. It’s brief, and maybe you wouldn’t even notice it if you didn’t know him very well. But Nadya does.
He can do this.
The least she can do is be just as brave. “I think Isseya’s gone to steal the Amulet while everyone’s focused on the fight.”
“Then what are you waiting for?” Isadora demands and all but kicks them up on their feet. “Go, I will keep an eye on Raines, make sure he doesn’t get himself killed. Try and do the same.”
Tumblr media
Finding Isseya ends up being easier than they expected. All they have to do is follow the trail of blood and goblin bodies and it’s like breadcrumbs right to her. Through the winding maze of Persephone, down some back stairs and through a literal giant metal vault door just chilling at the end of a corridor like it has any reason being there at all.
The vampiress stands the picture of serene in the center of a bloodbath. The club had spared no expense on guards and she had cut through them all without so much as a snag in her dress.
It’s telling that Nadya isn’t the least bit surprised by any of this. She’s come to expect brazen violence from the likes of them.
Katherine’s the one with the stake but its Cadence who puts himself in front of them. “Give us the Amulet and no one has to get hurt.”
She looks up with a raised eyebrow and a deadpan frown.
“Okay — no one else.”
The Amulet’s golden chain is wrapped around her clenched fist. She could easily carve a path through them all; leave no human, vampire, or Nighthunter left standing. But instead she lets the Amulet hang at her side and stares at them all in disdain.
“I don’t know how he can stand the sight of you.”
There’s no question to whom she is referring, and judging by the way Cadence raises his chin defiantly he knows it just the same.
“Feeble, weak, a bleeding heart…” her words catch in her throat, “but it’s our hearts that are bleeding. And you stand there regardless; an abomination. You don’t care. Nobody does.”
Nadya feels both Katherine and Lily reach for her, try to stop her, but she bats them away. Approaches to stand beside Cadence and the weight and burning rage of the eyes that snap to her is a pain she’s become familiar with by now.
“Please…” Though it would help if Nadya knew what she was even asking for.
Isseya barks a humorless laugh. “Pathetic — the first chance you’re given and what do you do with it? You grovel. I should expect nothing less of a human but maybe… maybe some part of me hoped you would understand. You’re the only one who could.”
Which, okay, now she’s a little insulted. “I’ve been trying to understand, Isseya. I’ve been trying to understand from the beginning. But you guys sure don’t make it easy, do you?”
Baiting the unstable vampire probably isn’t her smartest move. Not that it stops her.
“I just don’t get it.”
“Color me surprised…”
Surprising even to herself, Nadya shakes off her hesitation and fixes Isseya with a stern glare. “Why are you doing this, why are you helping Gaius? You obviously hate him, you don’t need to be a vampire to see that. That whole night he treated you like dirt; you and Valdas both. Why—Why even set him free?”
“Because he is the Godmaker. And we’ve exhausted all other options.”
“Options for what,” asks Lily, bewildered, “world domination?”
“For getting back what we lost.” Isseya fixates on the Amulet, entranced by the way the gemstone catches the light as it comes to a lazy halt.
But Nadya isn’t having it. “Nope, not good enough. I tried to help you — I met with him that night because I wanted to help you. If you think the evil vampire jerkface is your ‘only option’ then that’s just because you keep betraying anyone who might actually want to help.”
“You speak to me of betrayal?”
She flings a hand outward and Nadya feels Katherine tense behind her, ready to spring into action. But no attack comes; just the Amulet of Nero dangling awkwardly from her grasp and an accusatory finger pointed at the vampire beside her. “You stand beside him and dare to speak to me of betrayal?”
Before Nadya can even process what to say to that, a strange look catches in Isseya’s eye. She rolls her wrist and undoes the hold she has on the Amulet’s chain to let it hang on one finger. The world’s most dangerous offering.
“Screw the Godmaker, screw our debt. I’ll give you the Amulet right here and now — with but a single demand.”
Nobody steps forward because nobody trusts that.
Still… Nadya can’t not know. “And that is?”
“Fix him.”
The Trinity vampire nearly chokes on her words; so thick they’re practically in a different tongue and they may very well have been at first. But the disgust written in every inch of her skin radiates of hurt; of loss. Nadya doesn’t want to but she can feel the sting of Isseya’s tears in her own eyes.
“Fix him,” she repeats, “because you are her. You’ve found his memories before and you can do so again.” The Amulet sways with her trembling hand. “Do that, little Bloodkeeper, and we have no more reason to help him, no matter his wrath. He cannot take more from us than we have already lost.”
Shame burns in Nadya’s cheeks when she feels the weight of Cadence’s focus on her. Fear and confusion and anger coming from all sides and she wants nothing more than to fall on the ground and try to bear the brunt of it all without breaking on the inside.
But how exactly does she tell the grieving woman she has no idea what to do, or how to do it? Probably with the same personal responsibility and defeat with which she’s going to have to tell everyone she had a chance… and couldn’t take it.
“There’s nothing to fix, crazy bitch.”
Katherine doesn’t give Nadya the chance to find the right words. She launches the stake over Nadya’s shoulder but it goes wide, too wide, and collides with the wall a few inches too far from Isseya’s head.
Isseya who glances down as the wood clatters to the floor and rolls near her heels; utterly and painfully useless. “What a pathetic weapon.”
“But a decent distraction.”
One second Cadence is there and the next he isn’t; he’s across the room and drops down to swipe Isseya’s legs out from under her. She falls and it would be comical if Nadya wasn’t familiar with what she could do when angered, which means Katherine gets little resistance when she flings an arm out as a gesture for Nadya and Lily to keep back.
And as expected Isseya recovers too quick; grabs Cadence’s exposed ankle and pulls him hard enough to lose his stance and land prone beneath her.
“Don’t make me do this, Cyn’!” she snarls and struggles to hold him down. With a grunt the man wrenches an arm free and grasps her lower jaw in a bone-breaking hold.
“How… dare you!”
Something snaps and Isseya cries out in pain, giving Cadence a chance he doesn’t waste to hurl her away and into the back wall with brute force. Her collision isn’t pretty; large cracks forming in the wall and brick dust kicking up around the fighting immortals.
There’s a clatter… and Nadya catches sight of a red shine out of the corner of her eye. The Amulet.
Before she can rush to grab it though, a strong hand pulls her back by the shoulder. Katherine’s expression is grim-set and trained on Cadence with an uncomfortable stillness. She doesn’t let up on Nadya.
“Kathy, what are you doing? We can get it — it’s right there!”
“Too close,” comes her reply; barely a whisper, “wait it out.”
What it is isn’t clear until she, too, focuses on the fighting vampires. Tension rippling off both of them, Isseya’s dress torn and covered in debris. Yet Nadya’s never seen such a wild look in anything even remotely human. Not even when Vega was hunting her down like a lion to a gazelle.
No, not quite right. She’s seen it before — just not through her eyes; not as herself.
A wide grin blooms slowly around the woman’s fangs, blood between the spaces of her teeth and dribbling wetly from her mouth. Different than all the other times she’s seen that particular look of maniacal delight… Nadya is quickly forced to come to terms with the fact that she’s seeing, for the first time in decades, pure joy lit in Isseya’s face.
Though she has every chance to tear Cadence away from where he pins her just slightly off of the ground, instead a tender hand caresses his cheek.
“There you are… beloved. I’ve missed you so much.”
He waits. Or… she’s waiting. The tension is enough to make Nadya want to choke but no one is doing anything.
“We thought we’d lost you,” the tips of her fingers leave powdery stains over his bottom lip, “but you can come home…”
“Cade.”
It’s like Katherine’s voice breaks him from a spell. He jerks away from the other vampire’s touch violently, forces himself back and watches in a twisted form of grief as she slumps to her knees.
“I —” she’s crazed, she’s distraught, she’s still the enemy but the way he looks at his hands and doesn’t understand why they are red from brick dust — he would never have hurt her in his right mind, “— I didn’t… I’m sorry.”
The Amulet’s chain crunches under his shoe; Cadence bends swiftly to pick it up and secure the pendant. With every step he takes back, away from her; a little more light leaves Isseya’s eyes.
Slowly Katherine pries the Amulet from him and hands it off to Nadya. Like their win doesn’t even matter — all her focus is on her friend. “It was the cage all over again, Kathy.” He whispers.
“I know,” but she doesn’t sound any less certain than he does, “but… we’ve got it. We gotta go.”
We gotta go.
Adrian.
It’s against her better judgment that Nadya glances back one last time before they close the vault door; the only thing they can attempt to keep Isseya from following them back to the auction.
She sees the woman stand and try to brush the stains from her dress. She sees her toe off her broken heel. She sees her glance up and meet Nadya eye for eye.
Lily helps Cadence shoulder the door closed. The echo of metal sliding into place chills her to the bone.
Tumblr media
Twice now Nadya has inadvertently been the reason Adrian ended up injured so severely he couldn’t immediately heal. Which is, in her opinion, two times too many.
“What do you mean he forfeited?” Lily demands, and manages to look at least a little sheepish at the glare her tone gets. “Not that it totally, you know, makes every bit of ass kicked less worth it.”
Adrian glances at her through a purpling eye. “Thanks… I think.”
But even what hoarse whisper he manages seems to be too much, so Isadora answers in his stead. “He gave a rousing good show, Raines too,” she meets his glare with a bemused smirk of her own, “though the violence certainly went on much longer than necessary. But when the crowd came to understand the staggering difference in strengths they quickly lost interest.”
She rests a hand on Adrian’s shoulder. “It seems to me he battered you within an inch of your life so you couldn’t get up.”
Off to the side, Ryder cracks his neck. “Yeah, you’re a lot heavier than you look.”
Nadya fiddles with the Amulet of Nero deep in her jacket pocket. “Then Valdas just… forfeited?”
“Well it was either that or finish the job.”
And she’s glad that wasn’t the case. She pries one hand away from the pendant and reaches out to where Adrian lay, prone and aching, across the short back seat of Isadora’s limousine. “It wasn’t for nothing, but I’m still so sorry.”
“Don’t be,” he rasps, and manages to lift his hand enough for her to grab it, “like you said… it wasn’t for nothing.”
“Just be glad Vera was able to get the house to call an intermission before they put two and two together.”
Taylor leans back in his seat and rests his head on Ryder’s shoulder. If only that alleviated some of the worry in his eyes. “If that Isseya chick killed as many goblins as you say the Council is gonna be called in to deal with it.”
Lily frowns. “But we locked her in the vault. Practically pulled a Batman and handed her to them on a silver platter.”
“Yeah, I don’t think so.”
The occupants all look her way, and with no small amount of worry Nadya recounts the sight of Isseya able to stand on her own two feet right before the door closed. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she was gone by the time they even found out what she’d done, or what lot was missing.”
Adrian shifts and winces in pain. “That kind of strength… would definitely be enough to knock down a brick wall.”
And yet Cadence held her back like she was a rag doll. A thought Lily and Nadya both share in uncertain glances.
Ideally she wants to follow Katherine and Cadence into the night, off to where they secreted away while everyone (read: Nadya but loudly) was fussing over Adrian’s wounds. But he needed to heal so they could leave for New York as soon as possible, and that meant returning to Flechette with Isadora.
The woman glances out of the tinted window by her head to watch the French Quarter pass them by. “Relish your victory, however temporary,” she says with a sigh, “and ensure that it is made permanent when you return home.”
Nadya’s grip tightens on the Amulet so hard the metal bites at her skin.
“We will.”

At Long Last
Warnings: Mention of death, and very slight swearing.
Chapter 1 - The Beginning, and the Spreading of Rumours
Madeline Penhallow was in many ways very different from Katerina. That was the point, after all, to make sure that she was different enough to never be discovered.
Katerina had the Dumbledore auburn hair and bright blue eyes, much like her grandfather before his hair had whitened.
Madeline had blonde hair and green, catlike eyes. Her face shape and features were different, and she was a few inches taller - just enough to notice a difference if you stood beside one and then the other.
Kat thought she was rather clever coming up with Maddie's backstory: she was a transfer student from Ilvermorny in America, after her parents had died in a car crash. Minerva McGonagall (who had always been like an aunt to Kat) had agreed to pose as a distant relative of Maddie's, who she had come to England to live with.
It was simple really. The trick with lies was remembering the details, and Kat, had a very good memory.
XXX (scene break)
"Remember the charms must be reapplied every morning," her grandfather told her for what felt like (and probably was) the 12th time.
Kat, or rather, Maddie, simply sighed, grabbing her trunk and moving to stand by Minnie, Professor McGonagall, she reminded herself, although a slip up on that part would be salvageable since she was supposed to be Maddie's aunt.
The charms were complex, however well within Kat's capability. Despite her multiple expulsions, she was a good student and had studied well beyond her level. That would have to change. There would be no room for Maddie to go round casting N.E.W.T. level spells, as if being a new Fourth Year student wouldn’t be enough!
After the whole process of gathering her trunk, coat, and other belongings, Minnie (for she was still Minnie before they were at Hogwarts, Maddie’s mind argued) apparated them to the train station.
The most striking thing about Platform Nine and Three Quarters, was of course the great scarlet steam engine that stood before her, and Maddie couldn't help but sigh in delight, as she finally took in the view she'd been missing all these years.
Turning around, she stood on her tiptoes to kiss her aunt on the cheek and grinned.
"See you at Hogwarts Minnie!" She shouted over her shoulder as she made her way towards the train.
XXX
She made sure to walk down the entire length of the train, peeking through the windows of every carriage. This was partly because she knew the 'cool kids' would be at the back end, but also because, ever the dramatic, surely at least a few students would realise as she went past that this newcomer was not a first year.
She couldn't wait for the rumours to begin.
A smirk, tired but pasted there, graced her lips as she finally reached the second to last compartment. She was about to knock when she was unceremoniously barged out of the way by two boys coming from the next one down.
She let out an indignant huff as she was pushed to the side, only to be drowned out by one exclaiming: "Oi Evans!"
The girls in the compartment turned to the now open door. A couple of them were trying to hide smiles, but the redhead in the corner had the same expression as Maddie. Annoyance. Plain and clear across her face.
"An hour."
What? Maddie looked on from the side-lines confused, before the girl continued, "I can't even have ONE bloody HOUR with my friends before you come and start harassing me again!"
Ah. It seemed like this was a regular thing.
"But Lily-" the messy haired boy protested, only to be cut off,
"No Potter. Shut up, and get out. I don't want to see your face again before tomorrow at the very least!"
"What about my face Evans?” The second boy interjected, “mine is clearly much better than James's." He had black hair down to his shoulders, masking his face from the angle Maddie was at, and his comment welcomed a half-hearted shove and an indignant snort from his friend.
"You too Black! Out! Just- URGH!" The girl threw her hands up in irritation and sat down on the seat with a heavy thud, crossing her arms.
Mercifully, at least for the redhead (Lily seemed to be her name), the two boys dispersed, although not without a few lingering looks. One from the boy with the glasses and messy hair towards the irritated girl, and a couple from girls in the compartment to the other boy.
As he turned towards her, Maddie suddenly realised why.
He had fine, perfect features, she saw, as she scanned his face. Cheekbones that could cut glass and a chiselled jawline, immediately stood out, as well as the smoky grey eyes that stared at her in confusion.
"You. You're new. Why are you new?" He asked her jokingly.
Luckily, Maddie was used to fine features and was not even partially swayed by his pointed gaze. She was used to beautiful people (for this boy certainly was beautiful,) and she was used to - no, loved - the spotlight on her.
She sent a smirk and a light chuckle his way. “Well..." she lowered her voice, leaning towards him, "that would be for me to know, and you to find out."
She locked eyes. Challenging him.
"Well..." he mimicked her, leaning in further until she felt her hair flutter from his breath, "then I suppose I'll just have to try my best."
He drew back, and stepped to the side, gesturing to let her past. Gathering her belongings, she approached the door of the compartment, but not without missing the look on the other boy - James's - face, a mixture of exasperated annoyance, aimed at Black, and confusion at Maddie.
She smiled to herself. It was all going perfectly. After all, those boys and these girls seemed like the popular type, and the popular type were the best spreaders of rumours...
XXX
The girls welcomed Maddie at once. There were five of them, plus her, and all of their luggage, and even though the compartment was one of the larger ones, it was still a tight fit. Nevertheless, after the few hours the journey had taken, Maddie felt as if she'd known them forever.
Lily, was sharp tongued (as Maddie had witnessed earlier), but her kindness more than made up for it. Marlene was blonde, beautiful and brash. She was the flirt and proud of it, but through the mask, Maddie could see she was incredibly intelligent.
Emmeline was quieter, with long brown hair hanging straight down towards the book she was reading, but she smiled warmly at Maddie when she sat down opposite Emmeline and beside Dorcas. Bright and bubbly, Dorcas seemed to never stop laughing, and her laughter was the type that made others helpless but to smile and join in.
Alice had a permanent smile, soft and gentle. She came into the carriage halfway through the journey after meeting her boyfriend Frank. Marlene had told Maddie that Frank and Alice were practically soulmates, and from the way Alice’s face lit up when she mentioned him, Maddie got the impression they were a perfect match.
XXX
The journey was worth it.
As they rounded the bend, all of the girls stopped what they were doing to gaze out of the window. Maddie joined them and finally, after 14 years she saw the castle.
It was majestic, incredible, and even more so up close as they took the Thestral drawn carriages up to the doors.
The other girls giggled at her look of awe but Maddie didn’t care. With a smile on her face, she stepped over the threshold.
And at long last, she was home.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
a/n: so kinda a lot of description here but I'm just setting the scenes. You can already see some flirting, but we'll see how that continues... (I'm telling you now, there's gonna be angst.)
Anyways, hope you liked it! Next chapter is posted.

Another week of LDWS! If you missed the fun of who won the top five and who went home, make sure to check out our facebook group!
This week, I adored SO MANY of the Sirius/Petunia and niffler drabbles, but one stayed in my mind the entire twenty-four hours I spent away from them, teasing my imagination - Maira’s Any Other Name! Check it out below:
“Orchid! You made it!”
Petunia rolled her eyes at the enthusiastic greeting. “Hilarious as always, Orion,” she replied, smiling even as she shook her head. “Still not tired of this?”
“Never, my dear Daffodil!” He smirked as she sat opposite him, saying, “You weren’t around for some of my best work - I need to get you caught up.”
“Mmm, lucky me,” Petunia murmured. “You know, I still regret those years I missed.” Her heart clenched. “And if you hadn’t found me that night-”
Sirius waved a hand. “But I did. And they’re fine now.” He gestured across the bar to Lily and James. “Besides, there’s nothing like a near-death experience to bring estranged siblings together, right?” He winked.
“I shouldn’t have needed a near-death experience,” Petunia bit out. “I should have been there for my sister, no matter who, or what, she was.”
Sirius leaned in, placing his hand gently over hers. “You were there when it counted, and that’s what matters,” he said quietly. “And you’re here now.”
Petunia swallowed and gave a jerky nod. “Thank you, Sirius. Again.” She grabbed his arm, doing her best to ignore the flex of muscle and the feel of warm skin. “I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done if you- what’s this?”
As she’d been talking, her fingers had pushed up Sirius’ shirtsleeve to reveal a tattoo of what looked like a cross between an anteater and a platypus.
“This, my dearest Chrysanthemum, is a Niffler.” Sirius looked much too proud for someone who had a black splotch adorning their skin. “Among other things, they find treasure for their owners.” His eyes caught hers, warm amusement giving way to something more. “I think it’s served me quite well. Don’t you, Hyacinth?”
Petunia blinked, hope fighting against practicality and common sense.
“Cepheus, what are you trying to say?”
If she were being honest, Petunia wasn’t sure why she’d memorised a list of constellations.
“Gardenia.” Sirius moved closer, fingertips brushing across her skin as he reached for her.
“Delphinus.”
Maybe for the same reason Sirius could recall different types of flowers.
“Camellia,” he breathed, eyes flicking to her lips.
“Cygnus.”
Maybe because she’d hoped their stupid game went deeper than just names.
“Tulip.” And with that Sirius closed the distance between them, stealing her breath with a kiss and making her forget all about flowers, and stars, and the meanings behind them.
Congrats to Maira for winning this week’s Socials Spotlight! Make sure to check out the rest of the collection HERE! Next up: Percy Weasley/Angelina Johnson, the Grand Canyon and 100 words exactly. The chaos fires are burning hot this week!

 Excerpt One:
During the several hours we were all downstairs, I found myself watching him closely and making a mental list of everything I learned. One discovery I made was that he likes his scotch with only one ice cube, not the three or four that usually fill a glass. He also seemed to enjoy the mini crab cakes, if the amount of them he ate was any indication. Having stolen several of them myself, I would have to agree they were delicious. The house has an amazing restaurant-style kitchen and a chef that caters to any of the client’s tastes, no matter the time day or night.
The man also seemed to only be on friendly terms with the short, pudgy man who had accompanied him. The rest of the gentlemen, like the girls, he mostly ignored, though several of the gentlemen clearly wanted to impress him. The man’s face had been a cold mask of indifference the entire evening.
I had briefly wondered if he was married, not that it stopped any of his companions from enjoying themselves. When I handed him his drink, I noticed a lack of a wedding band. This could mean nothing, since not all men wear bands, but if my husband looked like this man, he would be wearing a huge one—telling the world he is taken. Maybe he’s gay?
This is the first time that any man has requested me, and I never imagined it would be this man stepping through the door. I’m surprised. The entire time we were downstairs the only words he said to me was a polite “thank you” as I served him. He barely even looked at me. Why did he request a room with me?
If I’m honest with myself, I’m a little—a lot—relieved. He’s at least not old, fat, or a disgusting combination of the two. And I admit, begrudgingly, that he is sinfully attractive. The thought of this man touching, kissing, and penetrating me doesn’t make my skin crawl or my stomach bubble with acid. It scares me, but maybe if I close my eyes, I can pretend we met during a night of clubbing and this is all my own choice. Or maybe not.
Tumblr media
Excerpt Two:
Slowly I widen my stance, opening my legs, my heart racing at how vulnerable I am now. Not that I wasn’t before, but this feels worse for some reason.
I’m naked. Alone. And opening myself up to this man.
One of his hands moves to grab my ass firmly in his palm, holding me steady. With the other, he raises two fingers and places them on my lips. I open my mouth wordlessly, and he thrusts them inside.
“Suck,” he growls, his golden eyes sparking with desire.
I do what I’m told, trying to ignore how good his salty masculine skin tastes, and pretending not to imagine or wonder what sucking another part of his anatomy would be like.
“Enough.” The man pulls his fingers from my mouth. His eyes widen with shock when I nip at the tips of his fingers in retaliation, and I see another hint of a sexy smile.
He moves his hand down to my pussy and spreads my lips, using his saliva soaked fingers to probe my entrance.
“You’re fuckin’ tight,” he groans, slowly forcing not just one but two thick fingers into me.
“Please,” I gasp, grabbing onto his forearms, the strong thick muscles briefly distracting me from the burn of being stretched and invaded.
“Relax,” he snaps, squeezing my bottom roughly.
“Sir. Please,” I groan as his fingers continue their inspection.
“You weren’t lying,” the man says casually as his thumb pushes its way between my outer lips. My body jerks when it hits my clit. He begins caressing it gently with his calloused digit. My traitorous body responds, relaxing under his spell. The man’s fingers are still inside of me, and I can feel myself aching in places I didn’t know existed.
“How come no one’s ever fucked your gorgeous body before?” he asks conversationally. I look up into his face, which no longer seems cold. With every gentle stroke against my clit, my body is betraying me.
“I never met any man I wanted touching me,” I admit breathlessly.
“Do you like me touching you?” he whispers lazily into my ear as he nuzzles my neck.
Before I can answer, he slowly slides his fingers partially out of my sex, before sliding them back in, all the while continuing to tease my clit.
“No,” I lie as my sex floods with pleasure, wetting the man’s fingers with my cream.
“Liar,” he replies amused, continuing his ministration. “Well, I certainly enjoy touching you.”
Tumblr media
 Excerpt Three:
Fuck!
I thought having Lily cover up her gorgeous, tight little body would make her less distracting—enticing. But seeing her sitting here in nothing by my shirt has me wanting to toss her onto the bed and fuck her right now.
My cock may think that’s a perfect plan, but I’m not that much of an asshole. I probably shouldn’t have made her strip, or fucking touched her to begin with. In my defense, I had to be sure they hadn’t harmed her, had to see with my own eyes there wasn’t any lasting damage to her body.
Once I got my hands on her, caressing her delicate skin and bringing her to climax had been instinctual. Watching her let go, embrace the pleasure I could give her, and forget about the world around her, made my cock ache and my heart light. I had sensed her attraction to me earlier, and I needed to see how she’d respond to my touch. Her wet cunt squeezing my fingers in orgasm told me all I needed to know.
Never in a million years would I have thought Lily was a virgin. A fucking virgin. Even though I’ve had my fingers in her tight pussy and felt her barrier, I still can’t believe no one’s ever fucked her. Miracle.
Lily’s innocence has me wanting to both corrupt and protect her in equal measure. Nothing is stopping me from doing both. She’s the type of woman I’ve been unknowingly searching for. Cultured. Intelligent. Untouched. It’s just my luck that I find her in a fucking Hong Kong brothel.

For you [Songfic]
Hello there,
Anyone who knows me in real life knows just how obsessed I am with a certain book series. The last movie from that series is coming out in about a week and a half, and I have been head-over-heels in love with their main soundtrack song. Please do not judge my love for this series, (lol). It’s a beautiful love story that you could only experience through reading the books - so keep an open mind and give it a try, just be aware that it is for audiences considered “mature” :)
ANYWAYS, I just had to write this. The lyrics to this song were too beautiful to ignore. I won’t reveal exactly who it is about, you’ll find out in the end. However, for those of you who have been reading my work since forever, you’d probably guess as to who it is after the first few paragraphs (don’t look at the tags and cheat). The only hint I’ll give is the fact that he was the first (and only) person that came to mind when I received the inspiration to write this. So I really do hope you enjoy this one, I sure as hell did writing it.
Listen:
For you - Rita Ora ft. Liam Payne

Daily reminder that I love you guys. Enjoy.
xo,
Nas
In your eyes, I’m alive
Inside you’re beautiful
Something so unusual
In your eyes, I know I’m home
He fastened his cufflinks and cleared his throat, signalling his best man to assist him in putting on his tux. He took one last look at the mirror and smiled, he had to admit that the wedding look fits him perfectly. He turned around and accepted the handshake that awaited him.
“I can’t believe it’s really happening.”
He smiled, “Who would’ve thought that I’d beat you to it, huh?”
Woohyun let out a soft smile, “I’m sure I’ll catch up soon. Oh, don’t forget to read over your vows one last time.”
Every tear, every fear
Gone with the thought of you
Changing what I thought I knew
I’ll be yours, for a thousand lives
He nodded and pursed his lips as he sat down and pulled out the piece of paper he had neatly placed in his suit pocket. He did a quick read of it, it needed something more. Knowing you had a way with words, he wanted to make sure that his vows showed just how much he loved you. In all honesty, he just wanted to beat you for the first time in his life when it came to writing.
Pinching his nose, he thought of what he could add. I’d die a thousand deaths for you? Too cheesy. I don’t think I could ever live without you? You probably had something similar to that.
As he brainstormed, he suddenly remembered something you had said to him on your first date. A grin spread across his face as he quickly grabbed a pen.
I’m free as a bird when I’m flying in your cage
I’m diving in deep and I’m riding with no brakes
And I’m bleeding in love, you’re swimming in my veins
You got me now
“Back then, you told me that this relationship was a first for the both of us and that we had no idea what was to come. But you also told me that it made your heart flutter with excitement because you knew that you’d always have someone to share everything with. I want you to remember that for the rest of your life because you’ll always have me.”
With that, he put the pen down.
Been waiting for a lifetime for you
Been breaking for a lifetime for you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
The door opened and Sungjong walked into the room, “Hyung, it’s time.”
“Is she ready?”
“She’s perfect,” he clapped his hands in awe, “You are so lucky, I hope you know that.”
He let out a chuckle, “You do know that one of these days I might actually kill you?”
From the couch across the room, Sungyeol called out, “You’ve been saying that since the first time we met. I think if you really did want to kill him, you’d have done it by now.” He rolled his eyes and stood up, “So, should we get this wedding on the road?”
He nodded once more and fastened his buttons. One by one, the members stood up and gathered around him. No words were needed as the seven boys put their hands in and cheered for one last time before one of them would no longer be an “I”, he was to become a “we”.
Skin to skin, breathe me in
Feeling your kiss on me
Lips are made of ecstasy
I’ll be yours, for a thousand nights
The boys made their way out of the suite in a line, with him going last. The groom’s wedding planner barked out instructions to everyone who surrounded them. He couldn’t help but laugh. Of course, his bride had to choose the most focused and structured, military-type person to help them plan the wedding.
He had to give it to you though, everything was spectacular. Even the rehearsal dinner last night had been beyond his expectations. The number one thing that concerned him was the menu, because the two of you had to cater to a variety of backgrounds. He had always been a picky eater, but somehow you had ensured that he would not have a problem with dinner last night.
That was one of the things that made him decide to marry you. Despite the fact that your life might be a complete mess, you somehow always, always, wanted to make him happy. You were too selfless for your own good, constantly placing his needs first. He had to tell you time after time to put yourself first every once in a while. You’d always reply with, “Seeing you happy is putting myself and my needs first.”
He must’ve done something good in his previous life to have received you as his bride.
I’m free as a bird when I’m flying in your cage
I’m diving in deep and I’m riding with no brakes
And I’m bleeding in love, you’re swimming in my veins
You got me now
“Son,” He recognized his father’s voice as he turned and returned the hug he was offered.
“Your mother and I want you to know just how proud we are of you. You deserve every inch of happiness in this world.”
As the two men pulled away, he quickly gave his mother a kiss on the cheek. Before he knew it, the two were off down the aisle, and it was almost his turn to walk down.
He was nervous. He could feel his heart thumping out of his ears. He had no idea how men could even think of getting married two, three times when once was already too much pressure. But then again, those men were not waiting to marry you.
Been waiting for a lifetime for you
Been breaking for a lifetime for you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Before he knew it, his members were starting to make their way down the aisle. He felt a panic arise and tapped Myungsoo on his shoulder.
“Am I making the right decision?”
Myungsoo raised an eyebrow, “You’re going to have to give me more than that.”
“Am I really doing the right thing, I mean, making her marry me? She deserves so much more than someone like me. I can’t help but wonder if she’ll look back in ten years in regret and remorse and-”
“Okay,” his member sighed, “we’ve been over this. First of all, you’re not making her do anything she hasn’t consented to. If she didn’t want to marry you, she would’ve said no when you proposed.”
He nodded furiously in an attempt to calm himself.
“And hyung honestly, there’s no guarantee that the next ten, twenty, hundred years will be filled with happiness for the both of you. But here’s the thing, in the time you have spent together, you’ve learnt that through the good and the bad, you needed each other. And that’s exactly why you’re perfect for her, and vice versa. Trust me when I say she won’t look back with regret. She’d go to hell and back for you, this day is the best day of her life.”
Myungsoo was slightly surprised when he got pulled in for a hug. But he knew that his words were needed for reassurance, and he was glad he could offer it. As much as he loved the man he considered his brother, he still needed to be reminded every once in a while that he was terribly loved by the people who surrounded him.
“I owe you, now go!”
And with that, Myungsoo made his way down the aisle.
It was his turn soon after, as he heard the host call his name out. He made sure to do breathing exercises prior to the door opening. Off down the aisle, he went. He took a quick look around the room and saw the people he valued most in life. In all his life, he never felt happiness like this.
I’m free as a bird when I’m flying in your cage
I’m diving in deep and I’m riding with no brakes
And I’m bleeding in love, you’re swimming in my veins
You got me now
The lights dimmed as the orchestra cooed the bridal march. He stiffened as the double doors where he stood a moment ago reopened. A spotlight made its way towards the most beautiful sight he had seen on the face of his planet.
Dressed in white from head to toe, with a bouquet made completely out of lilies, you made your way down the aisle. Your hand tightly wrapped around your father’s as you smiled at the guests who surrounded the room. Your eyes met your future husband’s as you approached him.
He couldn’t describe what he was feeling in words. All that doubt he had, all the fear was gone in a split second. The only thing going through his mind was the fact that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. He wanted to make sure that everyone knew you were his. He was going to marry you every day for the rest of his life just to remind you how much you meant to him.
“Who gives this woman to be married to this man?”
Your father wiped away a tear from his face as he placed a kiss on the back of your palm, “I do.”
Been waiting for a lifetime for you
Been breaking for a lifetime for you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Your hand was placed in his, and butterflies filled your stomach. No matter how long it had been, he always had that effect on you. He leaned in towards your ear.
“You’re so beautiful.”
Letting out a soft smile, you squeezed his hand and winked at him, “You’re not so bad yourself.”
The two of you approached the altar and faced each other. After a while, the time came for the vows. You cleared your throat and looked the man you were going to spend the rest of your life with in the eyes.
“Our entire relationship was an adventure. A crazy adventure that I have only ever read about in books. Before I met you, I had no idea what it was like to be truly loved by someone, and what loving someone truly meant. You brought light into my life at a time when I needed it the most.”
You laughed, choking back tears, “I never thought I’d ever be standing here, but here I am. And I want you to know just how excited I am to enter into the next chapter of our lives together. If the past few years taught me anything, it’s that the rest of my life with you will be exciting, captivating, invigorating and perfect. I wouldn’t choose anyone else, it will always be you.”
The tears were now freefalling down your cheeks, and he wasn’t faring any better. Like he previously said, you definitely had a way with words. Taking a huge breath, he recited word by word what he had written for you back in the hotel suite. As he was nearing his close, he placed a hand on your cheek.
“I’ll be there to wipe all your tears, to join you in laughter and to shut up when silence is needed.”
The entire room lit up with laughter.
“Although I’m far from perfect, I promise to try and get as close to it as possible, because you’re perfect. Every inch of you is perfect, and I am eternally grateful that God is giving me the chance to call you my wife.”
Been waiting for a lifetime for you
Been breaking for a lifetime for you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
Wasn’t looking for love ‘til I found you
He placed a subtle kiss on the top of your head, “I, Kim Sungkyu, vow to love you every day, forever.”
Been waiting for a lifetime for you.

Deja-Brew Chapter 1: Just a Lot of Conversation
------------------------------Lily----------------------------------
Lily looked down at the small piece of paper in her palm for perhaps the twentieth time in far fewer minutes, shifting back and forth from foot to foot. She had an assignment— a real assignment, not just clean up or first aid. And even better, a partner! The small support hero didn’t recognize ‘Coffee Man’ as one of the combatants she’d worked with before, but that was fine with her. You didn’t need to be famous to help others.
Actually, she was rather glad he wasn’t one of the combatant heroes she’d worked with before.
So regardless of whether Coffee Man was a newcomer or an out-of-the-spotlight type, Lily was eager to meet him. It was a kind of silly name... but she liked it. Sort of. It was gonna be hard to shout that into battle.
The place they were supposed to meet was nice enough. One of the Association’s recovery houses, a place she was pretty familiar with considering they kept it stocked with first aid supplies for when a fight broke out nearby or when a hero got seriously wounded.
The girl checked her paper again, nervously pushing up the sleeve cuff denoting her role as a support hero to her left shoulder and scratching absently at the sleeve under it. She adjusted her hold on the box of cookies, checked her phone for the time.
2:00 PM on the dot.
She took a deep breath and crossed the street.
Right on time!
...Should she knock? Was that silly, since this was Association property? Was he waiting already? Oh— Blink was so nervous! She’d never had met this guy before. Much less worked with him on an official mission.
She hoped he liked chocolate chip cookies...
----------------------------Vanne------------------------------------
As Lily crossed the street, she would find that making it to the door the recovery house wouldn't be such a simple feat as she thought. There was already someone there, sitting on the edge of the steps with long legs sprawled casually. He wasn't particularly an intimidating figure for most, despite his obvious height, and the solid lean muscle build to him. Perhaps it was the casual way he held himself, relaxed and comfortable with himself and the area around him. Maybe it was the soft clothing he wore; a grey long sleeve - though those sleeves had been pushed up to his elbows - and well worn jeans that were starting to seem some tearing in a few places. Though the military grade combat boots that were laced tightly under the pair of jeans were a little contradictory to the otherwise casual outfit.
The man had a dark tan skin tone, and much of his skin was covered in a wild mix of small to unusually large freckles. Curly locks of hair, a mix of faintly golden and light walnut shades, were pulled loosely into a bun. Beside him laid a light jacket, it was a faded green color and had seen a few patches. Held lightly in one hand was a large disposable coffee cup.
Behind a set of thick sunglasses, it was near impossible to tell if he was awake or not, at least until the girl got closer.
He shifted up slowly, casually pushing the sunglasses up to rest lightly on his head and so his warm chocolate gaze could get a better look at the girl. "Oi, you the lil' bird 'at's comin' wi' me?" The accent was thick, and for the most part sounded rather Australian.
-----------------------------Lily-----------------------------------
Lily’s first thought was that he was really... pretty. Not in the sense that he was girly, or that he had a lot of effort in his appearance, but... the man relaxing casually on the steps of the building had really pretty features. His freckles and his hair were unusual and nice to look at— and then he spoke, and that accent was so cool and beautiful!
But he asked a question, so Lily snapped out of her thoughts and smiled brightly. “Hi! Um, yes, you’re Coffee Man, right? Blink. It’s nice to meet you. I brought some cookies... I thought they might be a good getting-to-know-you gift.” Lily greeted cheerfully, holding out the box of baked goods. “I’m not a combatant, but I’ll do my best to be helpful!”
The girl couldn’t tell if he was happy or not about her being there, but she’d prove herself to be useful. Lily was a hero! ...Or at least, she did what she could. She would do everything she could to see this assignment through. “So... do you want to get to know each other first, or do a mission brief?”
------------------------------Vanne----------------------------------
At once, a small snicker started, Vanne quickly coughing once to cover it and get it under control. The huge grin that was forming in it's place was a much larger struggle to contain. He did this to himself, he thought he was funny and now this is what he had to deal with. Coffee Man, what a fuckin' riot. How was he supposed to take anyone serious when they addressed him in that way?
"That's sweet o' ya kid," he said, amusement still tinging his words as he gathered up his jacket and rocked himself up into a stand. Casually reaching for the cookies, he nodded his head for them to head inside. "We'll talk more inside, and you can just...call me Vanne by the way, Coffee Man's- 's really more of a joke 'an anythin'."
-------------------------------Lily---------------------------------
He had a nice laugh. Lily immediately liked this guy, though he was definitely weird... something about him was just slightly... off.
But not in a bad way, she didn’t think. He seemed— there was a word for it... strange, maybe?
Ah! Unusual.
Then he had to go and ruin it by calling her a kid.
“I’m— I’m not a kid!” Lily huffed, recoiling with a scandalized expression on her face, “I’m twenty, thank you very much, I can’t help that I’m short.”
The trails and tribulations of being of a small stature never ceased to plague her.
The little hero still followed him inside, of course, and perked up a bit at the mention of his name. “Oh— if we’re doing names, mine’s Lily! Van’s a weird name, if you don’t mind me saying. It’s like calling someone ‘Car’. Though, I guess there is the name ‘Carson’, and cars don’t even have children, so I don’t know what that’s about.”
---------------------------------Vanne-------------------------------
If anything her protest just seemed to amuse him more, both of his eyebrows arching up as he struggled to keep his expression contained. His hands came up in a peaceful surrender gesture, giving a soft "a'ight, a'ight". The humor in his words was near impossible to miss. Oh struck a nerve there, did he? Whoops~. Feisty little thing. Cheerful, but feisty.
"Nono, it's Vanne, like how someone is vain, conceited," he corrected, placing emphasis on the pronunciation. He knew his accent was thick and sometimes words could sound mixed up. Carefully setting his jacket and the cookies down on the table, he instead picked up file. "Anyways, this is fairly straight fo’ward, eh? Don't worry 'out 'avin' ta do much, 's not much need for a support hero. 'S just one target. Bit of a waste of yer time, but they wan' me ta do more 'teamwork'." He shook his head, taking a long slurp of his coffee and popping open the cookies, pushing the box back towards her after taking one.
--------------------------------Lily--------------------------------
She could see his amusement, but if she kept arguing it would only make her point weaker. So Lily just huffed once more before dropping it.
“Oh, I’m sorry. ‘Vain’, Vanne. Got it.” She corrected herself, sitting at the table across from him. Then, Vanne dismissed her usefulness immediately... as most combatant heroes tended to do.
‘Support heroes are only for taking care of bystanders’, they’d say, ‘What would we need you for?’
Lily frowned a little, but took a cookie from the box and took a bite to hold her tongue for a moment or two. This was her chance to prove that wrong. Non-combatants weren’t useless! “Oh, but I want to help! It’s not a waste of my time if someone needs me.” She replied with conviction. “I can’t fight, but I can do all kinds of other stuff. Just because I can’t throw a punch like you probably can doesn’t mean I’m not useful to have around.”
Maybe Lily shouldn’t be so defensive, she didn’t even know him after all. “I don’t actually know what your power is. I’m an OlympiKinetic, speed-presenting. And you?”
----------------------------------Vanne------------------------------
Vanne's expression finally shifted away from amusement as she protested, finally setting down his coffee and gesturing with one hand to calm down.
"Ayay, that is not what I meant, I am sorry. It is a simple extraction mission, locate and arrest. I do not think much will 'ave ta be done here. To explain, I am ah-...." he paused snapping his fingers trying to remember something. "Anti-Kinetic, in a way. I nullify yer powers, like this," another snap of his fingers before he picked his coffee up.
"'At is why there is not much for you to do, and I don't work well with others. It doesn't pick and choose between allies and enemies."
---------------------------------Lily-------------------------------
Lily’s eyebrows raised in confusion and awe. “Wait... really? I’ve never... I mean, that’s not exactly normal!” She exclaimed, leaning forward. “There’s Null tech, but— never in a person before.”
She paused, considering him closely for a moment. But Vanne didn’t seem like... His type. No, and she hadn’t heard of any attempts to create a human Nullifier, though that didn’t mean He hadn’t...
She leaned back in her chair, snapping out of that line of thought. No, that was all behind her. Nobody could find a trace of them, of Him, so there was no threat.
“I see... well, then I guess I won’t be very useful, after all.” She agreed, eating the rest of her cookie. “I’ll just be ready to help patch anyone up if they need it, then,” Lily decided, shrugging. “I can stay out of the way easy enough, and if things go wrong then I can get us out fast once you turn your thing off, yeah? So that’s what I can do for you! Medic and escape route.”
--------------------------------Vanne--------------------------------
"You could say it's out of this world," he answered lightly, pushing up to a stand and moving off to one of the counters where a file sat beside a small pile of things. He grabbed onto the folder, giving a casual shrug, and tossing it open onto the table before her.
There were a small set of documents and a picture of a European woman dressed in the exact cliché punk outfit you'd expect from a cliché villain, with thick white hair braided down her shoulder and glasses.
"Seriously 'ough, 'ere's a reason ya haven't heard, so keep it down on the down, eh?" He leaned against the table pointing to the woman. "As for this bird, 'er name is Annalise Klazarová, AKA Kovový - that's supposed to be-" he paused checking the paper work again, "metallic or something 'ike 'at in...Czech? Anyways, she is a telekinetic."
---------------------------------Lily-------------------------------
“It certainly is...! Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.” She promised, though now questions were filling her to the brim. How was he able to nullify powers? Why had this never been a documented Kinetic before? Why wasn’t he way more popular?! With an ability like his— half the damage to the city would never have to happen! Not to mention the casualties that could be saved...
Vanne really was unusual. And Lily really wanted to know everything about him.
“TeleK? Alright, that could be difficult— or, no, it won’t be will it? Because you can just... shut it off.”
Okay, she was still trying to wrap her head around that being something someone could just do. It was both incredible and scary.
Lily grabbed another cookie as she looked over the file carefully. “So when do we head out? Also, ‘down on the down’ isn’t a saying. I think you meant ‘on the downlow’.” Lily added, glancing up with amusement. Did Maybe-Australians not have that phrase?
--------------------------------Vanne--------------------------------
Her comment made him pause from their discussion.
"No?"
He looked back to the girl with a flicker of confusion, before staring off to the side with same expression. So many phrases, how was he supposed to keep them all straight? He then made a dismissive gesture,
"I was close enough. English issa stupid language."
---------------------------------Lily-------------------------------
“Well, yeah it totally is, but even in Australia- or New Zealand, I know there’s a difference- you grow up with English, right? I mean— it’s just an accent, unless you’re aborigine, which I... don’t think you are.” Lily continued, laughing a bit. She’d only learned about Australia about a year ago, so the memory of reading whole encyclopedias on that particular continent was more recent than her jaunts down the library shelves relating to the other six continents.
And she still had so much to learn that others took for granted...
---------------------------------Vanne-------------------------------
"Nah, bit more exotic 'an at, eh?" He answered in amusement, sitting back on the table and bringing his legs to sit criss-cross. Taking up the folder, he continued back to the original topic.
"We can't move until she does, don't know where she is jus' yet, but we know what she's after."
He started digging through the files before placing a picture of a warehouse down. "'member that null tech yer just talkin' about? This warehouse used ta belong to an Anti-kinetic organization, she's been making hits on some of their other ones, and she's gonna go for this one next."
------------------------------------Lily----------------------------
“Oh! Sorry to assume, then.” Lily said quickly, flushing a bit. She started to speak again, “where are you from then, if I can ask-?”, but Vanne was moving on already.
Right, yes. The mission! It‘s more important than making friends!
The mention of the null tech made her hesitate, though. It was... very uncomfortable. To be near those. Especially for Lily.
It shouldn’t matter. Apparently Vanne could impose that effect on her whenever he wanted, but it was— different.
She didn’t know if she’d panic when he turned on his null while she was around- probably not- but Lily did know she’d panic if those cuffs got put on her.
Or worse, the collar...
“O-oh, I see... Do we know her plans with them?” She asked, growing more solemn and focused with this new bit of information. “Aside from, well, the obvious.”
---------------------------------Vanne-------------------------------
"We'll 'ave to ask 'at one ourselves when we catch 'er," he said lightly, setting the folder back down.
"Don' know wha' she does with this stuff, but doesn't matter. We'll intercept her before she reaches the place, there's a couple other storage facilities nearby, we'll stake out in one o' 'em 'n get 'er when she shows up."
----------------------------------Lily------------------------------
“Alright, that sounds good.” Lily agreed, nodding and grabbing another cookie. “I’ll make sure we have plenty of snacks, in case we have to wait a while. Do you have any preferences?”
Keeping their energy up was important, after all! Hers, especially.
Lily fell silent for a moment, debating whether to warn him about her fear of the Null tech. It could be a problem if Kovovy got past them, to the warehouse. But she didn’t want to seem even more redundant than she already was to the combatant hero. “...Um, just keep in mind, that tech is pretty... well, you know. It’s pretty awful. So let’s be careful she doesn’t get to it, right?”
There. That was a good middle ground.
----------------------------------Vanne------------------------------
"Awful's a strong word for it," Vanne said, a small frown tugging on his lips as he glanced back up to her. That seemed a little unnecessary, especially for what they were discussing.
She seemed to have a problem with it, but...they always did, didn't they? No one liked the idea of losing their powers, even temporarily.
"I wouldn't 'xactly, call it nice, but awful..."
----------------------------------Lily------------------------------
“No, no, ‘awful’ is the right word,” Lily replied, looking over with a small frown of her own. “It’s not the powers, really- it’s the control. Cuffs, collars... especially ones that stop a part of me from working?” She shook her head, before blinking slightly and remembering what his power was.
“Oh— I didn’t— no, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean you were awful! I don’t know how your Null works, but it’s more the— it’s the Null and the tech itself. It’s just not... pleasant, being trapped by them. You can feel the buzz against your neck and wrists, feel it shoving down the part of you that could escape. and it’s almost... claustrophobic.”
Lily jumped up from her seat then, full of nervous energy suddenly. “Right! That’s beside the point. Do we want to start now? I can do a quick dash to the store for snacks, you never told me your preferences. Chocolate? Chips? Maybe you’re a Cheez-its guy?” She asked cheerfully, already angled towards the door. “I could just get some of everything, too.”
---------------------------------Vanne-------------------------------
"You are fine," he said, waving away her apology with a half-smile. It wasn't anything he wasn't used to, it didn't really matter which planet he was on he supposed. At least here wasn't as...bad as home could be. Dani-Tiir's had a reputation, and he especially fit into that slot. He had been a soldier, as so many of them are. It wasn't like her problem really was with him, as so many of theirs were.
"I see what you mean." She had a bad experience with them, a real bad experience considering how shaken she was by it. Who knows, maybe she had been involved with an Anti-kinetic organization herself, they seemed fond of using those and he could see how that'd be traumatizing. Not that he would pressure her, now was not the time to ask.
"Could you pick up another coffee while you’re out?" In one large swig, he finished his off, and continued, "I seem to be out, tha's all I need." She wanted to make herself useful, might as well give her something.
