🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately? Not really, because I end up singing along and then not writing. I get too much into the jams. I listen to a bunch of video essays though, especially ones about writing advice. And sometimes I just sit in silence, typing away. Not related to writing, but I do listen to Pink Floyd's The Wall on repeat ever so often.

🛠What tools/programs/apps do you use to write? I use Pages, because I was born and raised with Apple. xD Lately, I've started using the Notes app for writing too, because I can write on my phone on the go, and then copypaste it directly to the Pages document.

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? I have three wips with nothing published I'm waiting to get back to, because I still love the ideas, I just have a hard time continuing them. I'm not scrapping them, two of them are 80k+, I'm in too deep. Back, ages ago though, I started a bunch of fanfics that I only got a few pages into, then never finished. For example, I have a file on my computer which is half a page long called "science fiction AU" I wrote in 2013, and there's no indication of what the story was going to be about going forward apart from spamano happening. There's just a (bad) introduction to Lovino and half an introduction of Antonio, with some shoddy world building (something about space slavery? Ew), and I am never continuing that. :'D

I wanted to help out and do my part by adding some more Copypaste messages, and other people to contact about this trainwreck of a show once I started sending out my own complaints.

Hulu: Now this one is not as easy for everyone because Hulu is a paid service, and it also doesn’t have just a simple email address to send a letter out to, and I am avoiding any form of contact that would require me having to call and talk to someone on the phone.

Title: In regards to children's programming on Hulu portraying a child-grooming relationship

There is a children's show called Yashahime being aired on Hulu currently that portrays a romantic relationship between an adult man, and a young girl who he's known since she was 8 years old. In the most recent episode it was revealed that this young girl gave birth to the man's children at approximately 14 years of age. Considering that this is the age range for the target demographic many find this to be in very poor taste. We are asking that at the very least the age rating for this show be changed, or that the program be pulled from Hulu's lineup. Thank you very much for your consideration. ~A Concerned Citizen

Crunchyroll: This is an interesting route because on one hand anyone can actually make a free Crunchyroll account to contact them about this show, however on the other hand, I feel like Crunchyroll as a whole would be less concerned about the themes of pedophilia and grooming featured in the show because the app is not really intended for kids to use.

HOWEVER, they cannot afford to turn a blind eye to people who report triggering content. A request for a Content Warning to be put on the show is not asking much.

Yashahime contains clear and distressing themes of pedophilia and grooming. The latest episode featured an approximately 14-year-old girl giving birth to babies fathered by the adult man she's known since she was 8. Now I'm not new to anime, I know that there are many genres with different age demographics and as such different levels of graphic content. However, most of the time the rating, target demographic, and any content warnings that are given in the description can help people navigate what content they are looking to be exposed to. There is absolutely no warning or indication that Yashahime should contain such triggering content. Please put a content warning on this show!

Note: Crunchyroll is also a great place to drag the show in terms of reviews as it’s one of the main review sources Google pulls from when you do a search for the show. Ya’ll have NOT disappointed, and the first almost 3 pages of recent reviews are ALL doing the lords work, it’s hilarious, and if you haven’t seen it yet I recommend it. I’ll get more into review-bombing later in this post.

This show that has been heavily marketed for children, and has main characters that are 14-years-old, features a pedophilic relationship as romantic? Sesshomaru knew Rin since she was 8-years-old, and she gave birth to his children at approximately 14-years-old, THE SAME AGE AS THE MAIN PROTAGONISTS AND MARKET DEMOGRAPHIC! How is this appropriate content for children? How are we supposed to teach our children that inappropriate attention from adults is wrong if their favorite shows feature it as good? Yashahime needs a new age-rating and a content warning.

This section is still going to be under heavy construction, but the idea is a similar one to what brought about the YouTube Adpocolypse. Now let me just be clear that while I disagree with how YouTube handled this situation (and is still handling it) it did shed light on a lot of terrible content on YouTube that was flying under the radar, so as a plan of action I think it’s entirely valid.

Basically the idea is to contact any brands we see being advertised during Yashahime on Hulu and Crunchyroll. This phase of Operation: Sunset is going to be much easier to pull off on Twitter, so I have not yet started it (getting a Twitter account and blocking the horde of shippers over there so they leave it alone and don't get all my tweets removed is the next phase in my plan).

A week before her wedding she sneaks on board a shipping vessel in the hopes of having an adventure. She gets a little more adventure than she bargained for when the ship is attacked by pirates.

Outsiders (link) - Main HTTYD AU. Instead of watching the entire Berk fleet sail off to their dooms with Toothless, Hiccup and Astrid free the arena dragons and take Toothless while he’s being brought to the ship and then they all get the heck out of dodge. Dagur accidentally set himself adrift with Heather back when they were both small. Snotlout learns the hard way that being the Heir/responsibility kind of really sucks actually??? Stoick has to deal with his son going rouge. And Gobber and the Berk Teenagers have to deal with Stoick and Snotlout respectively.

Modern Riders/Time Travel AU - Modern!Hiccup is dragged by his cousin into an unwanted camping trip with the other riders and one electrical storm later, they find their cell phones aren’t working any more. Also are those flipping dragons?! On Berk, Stoick and the other vikings are shocked to find a group of teenagers in the woods who bear a shocking resemblance to some of the members of a dead generation of children.

Unsevered Bonds - Modern Riders (minus Hiccup) meet a time displaced Hiccup who recognize them as his reincarnated friends, even if they don’t remember their former lives.

How To Train Your Lusus - Everyone are trolls on Alternia. Hiccup is a brownblood who’s probably the only troll in existence to get a second Lusus (Toothless) after his first one (Stoick) is killed. Astrid is an oliveblood that Hiccup is flushed for, Fishlegs is a yellowblood, Snotlout is a blueblood, the Twins, Dagur, and Heather are all purplebloods. Dagur killed both his and Heather’s lusus so now he’s trying to take care of her even though she absolutely hates him (and not in a black way), and he had an unrequited pitch thing for Hiccup at one point before they flipped pale (and are actually Moirails now). That’s pretty much all I have for this one.

unnamed Harry Potter AU - Does not actually take place at Hogwarts. Everyone attends Dumstrang (possibly) and the topic everyone avoids is Care of Magical Creatures, because the local Dark Lord is Drago Bludvist. Main trio is Hiccup, Snotlout (Pureblood cousins), and Fishlegs (Muggleborn)… somehow.

Dragon Gang (link) - Mob/Mafia AU set in the vaguely 1920s in a Fake Country so no one can call me out on inaccurate geography.

Rebuilding Bridges - Set in a Multiverse where RTTE and The Hidden World are mutuality exclusive. (Pt.1): After dealing with Drago but before dealing with Grimmborn, Hiccup and Toothless once fought a witch intent on ‘harvesting’ dragons. Now ten years after the dragons have left her apprentice seeks revenge and kidnaps Zephyr and Nuffink, and a panicked Hiccup and Astrid are contacted by the Very Retired and Very Much Done With This Kid witch. Meanwhile in the RTTE-verse, The Dragon Riders only just got back from informing Berk about Johann’s treachery, when some crazy lady spontaneously appears in the middle of the Edge with two terrified children she intends to feed to dragons. Yeah, that’s not happening.        (Pt.2, spoilers for this AU I guess???): Zephyr and Nuffink and their parents have safely returned to New Berk, but their world has been shaken by what was and could have been. Zephyr and Nuffink, after bonding with Dagur in the other timeline, decide they want to try and help him in theirs. This was perhaps not their best idea. Meanwhile, the Nightlights escape the watchful eye of their parents to go exploring outside the Hidden World, and quickly meet the hatchlings of their dad’s brother! (so… their cousins, then?)

Something Wild (name subject to change) - Several years after Berk (along with most of the Archipelago) is attacked and taken captive by a far more advanced foe, Stoick is able to free most of his people but what he finds when they get manage to regroup back to their island is less than a relief- Berk ravaged and their elderly and children, left behind by their captors, missing. To make matters worse, the dragons are still out there, now with some kind of devils riding and aiding them. Now Stoick, Gobber, and the rest of the people of Berk must find safety and a way to fight back against they’re new foe, find what happened to those who are missing, and figure out who these dragon riders are and whether they’re friend of foe (gee i wonder where the Berkians went and who the dragon riders are golly what a mystery). (aka the feral/semi-feral!dragon riders au i keep trying to create)

Lost (name subject to change) - Alternate attempt at the feral/semi-feral!dragon riders au. Several years before the events of the movie could happen, a raid on Berk not by dragons, but by other people, leads to the destruction of an entire generation when the raiders manage to capture the Teenagers of Berk and ship them away. While in captivity, they meet and ultimately befriend the dragons that in another life would be their partners and together they all escape. Unfortunately, they’re Thor-knows-where, and with no one they can trust (or understand) except each other, getting back to Berk might take a while…

The Lego Movie:

Hero with Two Faces of Yellow - Another ‘Emmet and Rex share a body like Good Cop Bad Cop’ AU

Peacemaker AU - Main Lego AU. About a year after the Duplo aliens attack, Emmet is attacked and presumed dead, but he’s actually been taken by General Mayhem to meet Queen Watevra Wana'bi, who remembered and missed her ‘father’. Later, Rex ends up jumping into an entirely different timeline by accident (this one) and decides to try and play the long game by befriending Emmet, who’s now living in the Systar System. That probably won’t work out for him the way he wanted.

Miraculous Ladybug

MiracuClass Knows AU - Prior to Volpina, each member of the MiracuClass finds out the identities of Ladybug and Chat Noir, and just sort of collectively become their secret keepers. Inspired by Epiphanies by PFTones3582 on Fanfiction.net.

Miraculous Sburb AU - The MiracuClass play Sburb and end up dragging a good chunk of Paris in with them when they enter the Medium. Marinette is a Light player, Adrien is a Doom player, and that’s all I got. Gabriel probably definitely dies.

One Is Silver and the Other Gold - aka the Marikimno Brot3 AU. I headcannon that Marinette, Kim, and Nino were close friends as little kids that drifted apart a few years prior to the start of the show. In this AU, that never happened. Also, Alya becomes Adrien’s best friend instead of Nino, and Nathanel becomes their friend too somehow? (someone help Alya, she’s an extrovert and both her friends have social skill levels in the single digits.)

The Ladybug and the Monkey - Main Miraculous Ladybug AU. My take on the ‘Fu chooses Kim to be the second Miraculous wielder instead of Adrien’ AU that I’ve somehow seen multiple times.

Sleeper Miraculous -  AU where instead of the Miraculous being handed out, they’re transported magically to their wielders after they’ve proved themselves somehow. The Miraculous still need to be ‘activated’ by the Guardian to be used on either a permanent or temporary basis, so Ladybug still has to go to Master Fu at first before she becomes the new Guardian, but she knows literally none of the other members of Team Miraculous’s identities. They have a chat group, too, where Ladybug updates team members on whose Miraculous she’s going to activate, and both Chloe and Kagami never blow their identities. Contains both mild Classmates + (even milder)Adrien salt and sugar. (define irony: wanting to punch someone in the face for being an a-hole only to realize that said a-hole is you).

Miraculous! Pretty Cure! - Another Pretty Cure AU. Yep.

Mesapia AU - Butterfly!Marinette AU with a few twists - 1) instead of just facing the villainous user of the Ladybug Miraculous, all of the Miraculous have been lost to villains (save for the rabbit). Marinette frequently empowers her classmates (+Adrien, who’s still under house-arrest in this AU, Luka, and Kagami) to fight the Miraculous Villains, who are also all fighting each other; and 2) This isn’t so much a Kwami Swap as a Kwami Scramble, no one uses their canon Miraculous here (except for Fu briefly, and Emilie had the peacock before what happened to her)!

Boys vs Girls AU (name subject to change) - Marinette vs Lila with the Boys (+Kagami) on Marinette’s side and the Girls on Lila’s.

Labyrinth - Almost the entirety of the MiracuClass go missing (+Lila, Luka, & Kagami, -Chloe) and on a related note, eight very young children wake up in an ever-shifting, monster-filled underground labyrinth and grow up together. And two of them have some special, appearance-shifting jewelry…

Mad Gabriel - Miraculous Ladybug x Mad Father, starring Adrien as Aya, Marinette as Dio, Gabriel as Alfred Drevis, Nathalie as Maria, and everyone else as the doctor’s victims (Lila is Ines).

Miraculous Royal AU - A fantasy AU starring the MiracuClass (shocker) spread out across three fantasy kingdoms.

Quartz Butterfly AU - AU in which Jagged Stone takes the role of (a significantly nicer but still villainous) Hawkmoth as Quartz Butterfly, with Penny taking on Mayura’s role as Songbird. (yes i know peacocks aren’t songbirds SHHHH).

MiracuTrio AU - AU based on fanofanimation’s submission to terrible-miraculous-ladybug-aus, where Kim becomes a permanent member of the team after Party Crasher.

Mitterlicht - horror-ish AU inspired partially by various horror games, Lucidstuck, and Underbright (no, really).  After receiving their Miraculous for the first time, the temporary heroes start having less-than-restful nights. Things quickly go from bad to worse when fragmented, panic-inducing dreams turn into nightly (and solitary) trips into a dark world full of monsters that want to take something referred to just as their ‘light’- a bright light that acts as both a beacon to the hostile creatures and the only way to return to consciousness every night -which just so happen to be in the exact spot (and in many cases, are also vaguely the same shape) of their Miraculouses.

Mirakatsu - Aikatsu AU

Ladybug: Don’t Deal With Hawkmoth - (aka the result of listening to the Cuphead Rap Battle 50 million times) Cuphead AU where Ladybug and Chat Noir have to go around beating up akumas and collecting their butterflies to avoid getting akumatized by Hawkmoth.

Miracle Thieves - a phantom/gentleman thief au where Marinette and Adrien (who have been thieves for years) unwittingly steal a pair of magical artifacts and decide to team up afterwards. Includes Fox!Nino, Journalist-determined-to-expose-their-identities!Alya, and possibly Tiger!Markov.

Relief Was Just a Dream (name subject to change) - aka the mandatory Troll Rebellion AU, inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on A03. Sweeps after Karkat and Feferi are (seemingly) culled, Ace Legislacerator Terezi Pyrope -one of the best despite knowing she’s one wrong move away from being culled for her disability- is called in to investigate a series of traitorous attacks on more and more ships. Weirdly, the trolls seen most in the attacks don’t even seem to exist, all seem to bleed a painfully familiar cherry red, and have powers that even Her Imperial Condescension doesn’t seem to have. (not a no-game au)

Freetime AU (name subject to change) - AU where Bro leaves Dave on Dad Egbert’s doorstep, and Dave and John grow up as brothers.

Megaman:

Pokemon Network - Hub lives Pokemon AU with at least two protagonist teams. Team A: Lan, Hub, Mayl, Dex & Yai in Kanto. Team B: Roll, Glyde, Gutsman (Gus) in Kalos. What are Chaud and Protoman/Blues up to? ~Secrets~

Sailor Moon:

Inverse Corruption - When Beryl scours the Earth looking for her reincarnated generals she fails to find them, but she does manage to find the senshi instead. Sailor Moon has to unknowingly face the very girls who were supposed to protect her, fighting side-by-side with the Shitennou instead. (the boys are highschoolers to the girls middleschoolers)

Hazbin Hotel:

Infernal Relations - Why did Lucifer and Lilith wait so long to have a child? Simple; they didn’t. Unbeknownst to Charlie, her parents both had and lost a child thousands of years before she was born, a fact that will have far more of an effect on her hotel than she could possibly realize (even if she had known).

Apprentice Charlie AU - AU where Charlie gets into a fight with Lucifer and leaves before she ever thinks to create her hotel and Alastor ends up finding amusement by taking on an apprentice. (inspired by Helluva Teacher by Sol_Victoria on A03)

Phineas and Ferb:

Cursed Cats AU - AU based on the song Black Cats of Halloween. Phineas, Ferb, and their friends are cursed by a demon who turns them into black cats, save for on Halloween night. They’re then thrown into a world of magic and have to find each other, their way back home, and a way to break their curse, preferably in that order.

Danganronpa:

Online Gamer AU - no one dies/non-despair AU where no one is a super/ultra highschool level anything, no one has met each other in person, and they all play Among Us together. Junko always dies first and she’s low-key going to hurt someone over it.

Meanwhile in the control room, Makoto and a sort-of-but-not-really-reformed Junko are working together as the Masterminds behind the mystery. Well, Makoto’s working, anyway. Junko just kind of wants to give Makoto daily migraines. Contains Junko/Makoto hateshipping.

unnamed Taka Lives AU where instead of switching roles with Hiro during the third trial he just manages to survive the murder attempt. He does not, however, get out unscathed…

another unnamed Taka Lives AU where Makoto, at Kyoko’s urging, decides to stay with Kiyondo the night he would have died, throwing a huge wrench into the would-be-blackeneds’ plans.

Asassain!Makoto AU: The Killing School Life - an au where Makoto is secretly the Ultimate Assassin.

Assasain!Makoto AU: The Killing Mystery - au that’s basically the one directly above but takes place in a non-despair (or maybe averted despair would be more accurate) timeline. After receiving and turning down a job to assassinate a certain up-and-coming politician, The Black Mask (Makoto) alerts his would-be victim, an old former friend, that someone is out for his life.

Remnants of Hope AU - AU that takes place after the end of School Mode, with the class not being picked up by the future foundation right away. (does this. does this actually qualify as an au i’m not sure.)

unnamed AU where Makoto and Kiyotaka are brainwashed into Ultimate Despair in addition to Class 77. Contains both sweet and very effed up Naeishi, as well as Despair!Makoto+Izuru friendship (or as close as Izuru can get, anyway). Technically another 2 (or 3, sort of) masterminds au.

Soulmates AU - In a world where most people are colorblind until meeting their soulmate, Makoto Naegi walks into Hope’s Peak Academy colorblind, blacks out, and wakes up to color. As it turns out, the same thing happened to everyone else!

Scrapbook AU - After entering into Hope’s Peak Academy, Makoto started a scrapbook/photo album of himself, his classmates, and eventually even the class above his own during their time on and off school. It soon became a class diary of sorts after being discovered, shared among everyone… then a chronicle of the events leading up to Class 77 going missing, The Tragedy starting, and Class 78 sealing themselves inside the school bunker, before returning to it’s original purpose as Class 78 lived inside their homemade bunker. In canon, Junko found and burned it. In this timeline, it’s an amnesiac Makoto and his classmates who find it, hidden under the floor in Makoto’s room.

Amnesia AU - A boy wakes up in a school(?) with no memories of where he is, how he got here, or even who he is. As it turns out, there are fourteen other people here… and all of them have the same memory loss he does! (may or may not be an IF Bad End AU)

Polychain AU - Another different Victims and Blackends au, that extends well beyond the original Killing Game. The Tragedy occurs very differently in this one… initially. Also features Junko escaping after the Killing Game, and Hajime and Shuichi being half-brothers and kids of the survivors.

Unnamed AU where Leon and Taka also attended Makoto and Sayaka’s middle school.

Ghost AU - After being killed, the victims and blackened are forced to stick around and watch the Killing Game happen, believing they'll be allowed to move on after they leave. Turns out, they're very much wrong- but at least after it's over their classmates can see them! Too bad they're the only ones.

Teachers Assistant AU - inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on fanfiction.net. After Nagito blows up a building and gets suspended, Chisa is forced to take a Teacher’s Assistant or be fired. Somehow, a very reluctant Makoto gets the job, despite being in the class below her own. Cross-class shenanigans ensue.

Unnamed Timetravel AU inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on fanfiction.net where Makoto and Alter Ego, the only survivors of the Killing Game, are sent back in time to Makoto’s first day attending Hope’s Peak - Makoto mentally and Alter Ego physically. Not as dark as the premise sounds, at least theoretically.

author’s notes: as promised, here’s chapter 2.  again, a lot of it is copypasted from the previous one, but with this next choice comes another part where things start to diverge a bit more.

Hm!  You’d known that it would come to this sooner or later, with someone, but the thought of it still made you mad and hurt, no matter how much you had gone over it in your head.  However, you remembered your promise with All Might.  You had sworn to be on your best behavior, and by god, you would do it.  The last thing you needed was ammunition against you if he decided to make good on his claims.  So, you squared your shoulders, pink tips brushing against the starched white collar of your suit, and smiled.

‘Smiled’ may have been a generous word for it-- You looked like a hyena baring its teeth, but you still tried to be friendly about it, tone light.  “Thanks for your dedication.  I’ll keep it in mind.”  There were a few moments of silence as he raised his eyebrow at your expression, but you were damned if you would falter now.  It was a test of wills,  and you would shoot out goodwill laserbeams if that’s what it took.

God, did this guy ever blink?  You were about to crack when he huffed slightly and turned away.  “You do that.”  In a matter of moments, he was gone, silently rounding the corner like a shadow.  You waited until he was gone to fume, tapping your fingers in silent irritation.  Angry.  Angry.

In the midst of your small fit of anger, you failed to notice All Might had left the conversation with the principal.  His warm, bony hand enveloped your shoulder.  “Are you alright?”  His tone was tinged with concern, which instantly helps cool your temper.  You covered his hand with your own, patting it gently.

“I’m fine, I’m fine.”  You reassured him with another deep, exhale.  This time, the smile you gave him was more genuine, the ends of your lips curling into a smile.  “I just met my number one fan.”  All Might looked confused for a moment, and then the synapse fired in his brain and he nodded knowingly.

“I see.”  He laughed somewhat apologetically, rubbing the back of his neck meekly.  “I admit I did foresee this, but I didn’t think that Aizawa-kun would act so swiftly...He really is a ‘logical man,’ and he wasn’t very happy with how hard I pushed for you.  For better or worse, he’s a man who doesn’t mince words, but he’s not a bad guy.  I hope you’re not discouraged by this.”  All Might’s expression seemed to fall more than yours.

“It’s fine, it’s fine!”  You reiterated, patting your large friend on the chest.  “I was prepared for this at the start-- Not that it doesn’t...really piss me off, I think I can appreciate him being upfront with me.  All I have to do is change his mind, right?”  You flexed your bicep lightheartedly up at him, and All Might rubbed the back of his neck with a smile.

“You’re right.  I’m sure we’ll be able to understand each other during the course of this year, all three of us.  We just have to stay positive.  Plus Ultra!”  He shifted into his muscular, hero form part way through, lifting his finger to the ceiling, and you laughed as you mirrored his posture.  “Now let’s go get something to drink.  All of that stress dried my throat out something fierce.”  You lead the way out the door, and All Might chuckled gently as he followed you out.

You and All Might sat in the farthest-back booth in the cafe, hidden from public view.  Several files, some yours and some his, were spread around the cool, tan table-- perhaps not the safest place considering the proximity to your drinks, but you still wanted to speak a little bit before you headed home in a place that wasn’t the school.  You traced a student’s name, peering down at his picture.  “This one’s your favorite, right?  Midoriya?”  You asked.

All Might sputtered on his warm tea with honey, carefully wiping the corners of his gaunt face as he answered you.  “W-Well, I wouldn’t say that Young Midoriya is my favorite, but it’s true that he is my young disciple…and the one to inherit my legacy...”

You laughed, pointing your finger at him.  “Same thing.”

“N-Not exactly…”  He floundered.  “I’m going to be trying very hard not to favor him and to give my guidance to the rest of the students in a fair way.”  He was starting to sweat now, so you figured it was a good time to stop teasing him.

“I know, I’m sorry for poking fun.   Don’t stress yourself out too much over this.  I’m sure you’ll be a great mentor to all of them.”  Your voice was reassuring and calm as you read over the list of names once again, and then went on to the staff list.  There would be forty children in all who would be your responsibility this year, more or less.  All with different quirks, personalities, home lives, and a slew of other difficulties to overcome, and it would be up to you to help them get through it all with as little emotional trauma as possible.  You had to start getting to know them sooner rather than later so that you would be able to be of use to them.  Eraserhead’s warning echoed in your head, like a ghost, and you tightened your lips into a thin line.  No time to worry about him.  If you did your job, and did it well, then his and everyone else’s doubts would fade away.  If anything, you were at least clear that you meant no harm and took him seriously.

All Might seemed to sense your change in mood, and offered you a smile and a change in subject.  “How is the pro hero life treating you?  I know you don’t really have your own ‘agency’ yet, but you still do work patrols, do you not?”  You nodded, feeling a warmth spread in your chest.  As a rookie hero, you did all of your own paperwork, promotional work, and so on and so forth.  It was difficult, but rewarding.  The day before, you’d caught a mugger right after he’d held up some college students.  Not the most high profile case, but the smiles they had on their face after you’d returned their money made it worth it.  He listened to your tale with a grin.  “Exactly!  I hope you remember that feeling and let it drive you forward.  Once school starts up, we won’t be able to meet up as often, so I hope you take my words to heart, and deepen your bonds with your fellow pro heroes and students.”

Your face held a slightly sad but gentle smile.  Despite everything, All Might still did his best to be a pro hero and make time for you.  Now that he would be mentoring Midoriya, teaching students, and still acting as the ‘Symbol of Peace,’ he’d be spread even thinner than usual.  It made you lonely, but you also were going to keep busy.  The past two years you’d spent encouraging each other would finally be put to the test.  You also knew that the reason he’d be keeping his distance would be for you as well: there were already whispers about why All Might had pushed so strongly for your addition to the staff despite being a very new hero.  He wanted you to stand on your own two feet and show everyone what you were made of without him beside you.  “Of course.  Just you watch, I’m gonna befriend all of these people.  By this time next year, I’ll be wearing several matching friendship bracelets and I’ll be known as ‘The Hero of Peaceful Relations’.”  You sarcastically rolled your wrist.  His face brightened at your joke, mid reply as his phone rang.

“A phone call-- is here!  A phone call-- is here!”  Hearing his voice ring out from his phone, he quietly excused himself, murmuring cryptically in response every so often.  You could read his expression like a book after he ended the call.  “I’m sorry, I know that this is supposed to be our last hurrah before the school year, but--”

“Go ahead.”  You waved him off with a smile.  Even in his own weakened state, he was a hero through and through.  When something, or someone, needed him, he would always come running.  “Don’t look so sad.  The hero always has to be smiling, right?”  You reached out and poked his shoulder gently when he made a difficult face.  “Just do me a favor and not push yourself too much?  I’ll send you a mail later.  Besides, I still want to read on all of this.”  You gestured to your own papers.  The corners of his mouth lifted into an apologetic smile.

“Thank you.  I promise the next time, it’ll be my treat.”  He gave you a thumbs up and disappeared out of the nearby door and down the street.  You waited until he was for sure out of sight before you sighed, shaking your head with a laugh.  Apparently, he didn’t remember that this time was supposed to be his treat too.  Oh well, you’d just have him take you somewhere more expensive than your usual hang out.  You left some money on the table, gathering your documents into your over the shoulder bag and walked out into the bright lights of the city to your apartment.

You didn’t get to observe the entrance exams for the hero exam, so you instead read the notes on the students from your peers.  Aside from Midoriya, Bakugou, in particular, got your attention.  You had seen the news and heard from All Might himself, but he had to have felt some kind of way after his encounter with that sludge-type villain.  According to his reports, he was a bit of a hothead, so you would have to broach the subject carefully when you approached him.  You would meet all of them individually soon enough, so you tucked away knowledge of them and then sorted through the next group, the 1-B students and their homeroom teacher, Vlad King.  You stretched out on your bed and turned to look at the clock.  It was still early, the sun had only just started to set.  Out of the corner of your eye, your hero uniform was laid out onto one of the arm chairs near the desk.  You knew that the principal had said to get to sleep early and be ready for classes starting, but that was still a day and a half away.  You were still a rookie, and any experience you got beforehand would help you in the future.

Do you:

Take it easy tonight.  Go out for a quick stroll and get more familiar with the city since you’ve not seen it in awhile, but abstain from hero work.

Don your hero suit and do a little bit of patrolling.  It’ll help you get out some of your excess energy, and that way, you can focus and rest tomorrow.

What?

Lance narrowed his eyes at Pidge, who was giving him a coy grin, pushing up her glasses by the bridge with a single finger. Shit-eating little—

“Can’t you do me this one solid?” Lance said, a tinge of annoyance in his tone as Pidge’s grin grew wider.

Honestly, what was he expecting? He just wanted to do something corny and stupid, and naturally she gives him shit for it. A lesson in botany. On Christmas Day.

“No.” Pidge said, and in a swift motion she plucked the plant from Lance’s fingers, holding it in a way that Lance felt the lecture coming.

“For one, mistletoe doesn’t have spiky leaves. They’re more round. And the berries? White.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Lance grumbled, trying without avail to snatch the leaves back from her. “No one’s gonna care if I hang up holly. The whole tradition behind it is in people kissing, and that’s what everyone else who’s not a nerd is gonna wanna be doing. White berries or not.”

She was grinning wider, waving the holly between her fingers, and Lance was about five seconds from picking her up and hanging her upside down by the ankles until she gave it up.

“I’m not gonna be kissing anyone. Because you’re going to be participating in blatant mistletoe misinformation.”

“Oh my god, so what exactly are you going to do?”

“Find proper mistletoe.” She said it as if it was obvious.

Can a person be more… aggravating?

“Look,” Lance forced eye contact with her, pulling the mistle—holly from her hand, waving it between them in challenge. “You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna hang up the holly. And I’m gonna kiss my friends under the holly. And we’re all gonna call it mistletoe. Because you, Pidge, are a total… Grinch.”

There was a beat of dramatic silence, as Pidge looked between the holly plant and Lance’s face, a quiet, almost—dare he say it—affectionate smile forming on her lips.

“Okay. I’ll wave the white flag.” She leaned away, arms up in dramatic defeat. “But just because it’s Christmas.”

Well, that was satisfying. Lance rarely beat Pidge in a battle of wits, even if just for today it’s in good faith.

Lance waved the sprig again, nodding in satisfaction. “Well, well! Someone’s heart just grew three sizes.”

“Yeah, whatever.” And she leaned back in, smug, a dusting of rose over her cheeks that suggested emotions completely different from smug confidence. “So, is there a reason you keep waving that holly-toe in my face or are you going to keep up your holiday traditions?”

Wait, wait, wait.

Lance’s eyes widened, and he froze in his motions, acutely aware of the holly in his fingers and how he held it between them. He looked between the plant and Pidge, and he was definitely heating up. Not from the itchy sweater he was wearing. Someone must’ve turned up the temperature.

“Uh—“ Lance managed, finally, and Pidge’s eyes widened, too.

She didn’t expect that. She expected actual retaliation, because how dare she bring up kissing him after ragging on him over a goddamn plant. He should be cracking a joke. Telling her to eat shit. Not looking at her like a kid caught in the cookie jar.

Unless.

“Oh my god, do you actually want to—“

“Pidge if you speak the words into existence I can never look you in the eye ever again.”

It was getting a little hard to breathe.

“Okay. Uhm. I will not do that.” She leaned back, chest starting to beat a little too fast, and she wondered if there was a little drummer boy pounding on her heart with a deafening pa-rum-pum-pum-pum.

“I’m gonna go help Keith with… lights.” A lie. A panicked lie. Pidge got up quick.

“Wait.”

Oh, of course.

She turned back slow, and Lance was there, a slight hint of terror in his eyes because to be quite honest a lot happened in the last forty-five seconds and she was sure neither of them wanted to be there.

He was still holding the sprig of holly between his fingers, and Pidge really would have liked to not be looking at it.

“Uh, technically it’s supposed to be up like this—“ Lance demonstrated, lifting the plant over his head, and the smile he gave her was infinitely shy. Then he gasped, feigning surprised, free hand over his chest as he looked between the holly-toe and her, and despite herself Pidge let out a hard laugh, hands rising to cover her mouth.

“Oh gosh, Pidge! Looks like we’ve been caught under the mistletoe.”

“Holly.”

“I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: no one else knows that. So, is it okay if I asked to kiss you?”

She pressed a hand against her thin in thought, letting out a low hum, pretending to consider it for a deep moment.

“I mean, it is Christmas,” came the verdict, finally, and Lance bent his knees enough to reach her in the middle.

And it wasn’t bad, for a first kiss. It was clumsy and nerve-wrecking, and it wasn’t entirely on the mouth but at a corner, which neither of them minded so much because it was all too soft and new and—neither of them would say it—exciting.

They pulled away a second later, eyes averted, and Lance played with the plant in his hands.

“Not bad?” he asked, quiet.

“Not bad.” Pidge agreed.

“Oh my god. Were you guys kissing?” came a surprised voice, and the pair bounced back quickly, turning to find Hunk carrying a tray of cookies, a teasing grin on his face.

“It-It’s a Christmas tradition!” Pidge said quickly, glancing between Hunk and Lance because honestly? She’s gotten enough shit from one boy today.

“Yeah, Hunk! Can’t you see? Mistletoe?” and that was the first mistake, when Lance held up the holly-toe in his hands and gave Hunk a matter-of-fact grin. Hunk furrowed his brow as he looked at the plant, then back at the two of them, his grin growing a little too wide.

“That’s holly. Everyone knows that.”
