so, this has actually always been the most confusing part about amaimon's character for me because he's someone who just gives so little shit about everything that it makes very little sense for him to have an aesthetic that he's inclined towards, and in particular one that is aligned with such anti-establishment sentiment. in general, amaimon doesn't really care about anything and he doesn't even really like anything in particular either, except for food and sightseeing apparently (and women that smell nice 👀)
in my head canon, i've chosen to believe that mephisto, someone who has been previously stated to be interested in subcultures, decided to play dress up with his lil bro and amaimon just decided to stick with it because, once again, he doesn't really care. at the end of the day, he has clothes on and if it were up to him (which it isn't because mephisto has a reputation to uphold) he would probably just roam around naked, in my opinion.
i think that's probably the most realistic reason for why amaimon dresses like a societal reject?? (mephisto is a dork)
that being said, amaimon fits the "bad boy" archetype surprisingly well. generally speaking, he doesn't care what anybody thinks of him (or so it seems) and he likes mindless fun in the form of picking fights with unsuspecting strangers. top it off with his stoicism (that he only occasionally breaks in the form of vitriolic rage because we love an emotionally constipated boy <3) and his independence and independent stance in general (because he's lazy) and we've got ourselves a "rebel without a cause."
i suspect katoh decided to use his wardrobe as a way of driving home the fact that amaimon kind of is an outcast, at least in the sense that his family is split up into two factions and he just doesn't really... care? his priorities are elsewhere (having fun), he doesn't care about the politics revolving around his family. amaimon only has so much free-time and even his "free-time" is often spent serving another (mephisto) so in his mind, he can't really justify laboring over the politics of the whole situation. and once again, he's just a very lazy boy lol. amaimon is very atypical in his behavior, especially given that he's a demon king, and he often does not align himself with what is socially acceptable, making him a certifiable outcast for his bouts of unrestrained rage, which his siblings definitely turn their noses up at.
not only that but his subjugation to shemihaza definitely didn't do any favors for his social standing.
it would be interesting to extrapolate something else from his wardrobe choices that doesn't just indicate that mephisto was meddling here, but i'm a bit stuck in that regard. maybe something is a miss here though :')
Your thoughts on Amaimon’s looks? Personally, I don’t think he cares all that much for aesthetic, but I think the vibe of his clothes r somewhat intriguing.
Hey anon! Amai has one of my favorite styles in the whole series, and it’s one of the things that makes him so interesting to me. Particularly since he’s been in Assiah for at least a thousand years and still hasn’t taken any personal interest in human culture. Yet, despite that, he has a very distinct but human enough style while not putting much priority on aesthetics.

He’s so gender. Similarly to Mephisto, he wears tights and a vintage style shoe. His specific style of shoe is still popular in subcultures like punk, and that punky/more modern feel is enhanced by how he wears his shirts and pants. The tight and long green sleeves under the short and wide striped sleeves add to that, similar with his pants over the tights. I state all of that since he wears articles of clothing similar to Mephisto, but achieves a very different look. I like to think that Meph helps Amai find clothes while letting him pick a style he likes <3
While he has this darker whimsy to his look and would look natural in a video game like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, I still feel like it would be more natural to bump into him in public than it would with Mephisto or Beel. Like if I saw Amai walking down the street I’d assume he left a skate park or record store or smth. With Meph in his pastel goth Pennywise cosplay and Beel in his fancy bloomer suit, if I saw them prancing around in public I’d assume they had just left a renaissance fair and were looking for a bite to eat.

For his school uniform, I’m jealous that he has striped pants! Despite my pink blog, I wear a lot of black/darker colors so I’m naturally biased towards this sort of fashion. That said, I don’t think these colors look as good on him as the other color scheme does. But he does look very dapper while still keeping a punk edge, so I like how he plays around with this look. ALSO I love the little behemoth plushie he has on his belt chain! It’s a really cute touch that shows a bit of his sentimentality, and it’s fun in combination with the way he’s dressed like a punk/rebel. It’s small things like this that make him feel the most human (in terms of emotional expression) out of the demons that side with Assiah imo, despite how little interest he has in humans and their culture.
