Thoughts about Liam Payne below:
I've been thinking a lot about how apparently, Liam was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and how people with ADHD are high risk for addiction and substance abuse issues. I can't imagine what it might be like to go from a routine of working around the clock whilst simultaneously experiencing the intense high of adoration and devotion nightly from millions of fans, to then suddenly having no routine, nothing, but thinking it's ok because it's temporary it's just a break until it becomes apparent that it isn't temporary. You aren't ever going back to that level of adoration and you're now expected to come up with something new, set a new routine, and basically reinvent yourself overnight whilst your previous bandmates are appearing to do it with ease and just when you start to accept it a pandemic happens and your whole routine changes again. That's a lot for even a neurotypical brain to process let alone someone who is nd. It's no wonder he broke, I'm honestly surprised he was able to mask for so long. It breaks my heart to think of how lonely he must have felt these past few years, I hope wherever you are Liam you're at peace now.

i understand the appeal of publishing "fic with the serial numbers filed off" as original work but i also feel like. what makes something a good fic is at odds with what makes something a good original story.

Éomer stepped back and a look of awe was in his face. He cast down his proud eyes. 'These are indeed strange days,' he muttered. 'Dreams and legends spring to life out of the grass.'

I see a lot of people talk about Finnick surviving the mutt attack but I don't see a lot of people talking about Finnick SURVIVING the MUTT ATTACK

i like how dean represents rory’s humble small town stars hollow world and logan represents rory’s wealthy ivy league world and rory being torn between these two worlds is basically the theme of the show, so you’d think that the narrative would be very dean vs logan. yet both of them are intimidated not by each other but by this little guy who comes out of nowhere during both relationships, displays an undeniable connection with rory and dips. i love it.

Rereading the Lord of the Rings series recently, and it's so fascinating to me how much the series is a denial of the typical juvenile power-fantasy that is associated with the fantasy genre.
Like, the power-fantasy is the temptation the Ring uses against people It tempts Boromir with becoming the "one true king" that could save his people with fantastic power. It tempts Sam with being the savior of Middle Earth and turning the ruin that is Mordor into a great garden. It tempts Gandalf and Galadriel with being the messianic figure of legend who brings salvation to Middle Earth and great glory to herself.
The things the Ring tempts people with are becoming the typical protagonists of fantasy stories that we expect to see. and over and over we see that accepting that role, that fantasy of being the benevolent all-powerful hero, is a bad thing. LotR is about how power, even power wielded with benevolent intent, is corrupting.
And its so fascinating how so much of modern fantasy buys into the very fantasy LotR denies. Most modern fantasy is about being that Heroic power-fantasy. About good amassing power to rival evil. But LotR dares not to. It dares to be honest that there is no world where anyone amasses that power and remains good.
I guess that's one of the reasons its so compelling.
