conflicting wants and needs and letting people inconvenience you sometimes as part of being in a community is all well and good

but hell becomes other people when I haven't been able to sleep in past 7 on a weekday ever during the school year bc these fucking parents insist on treating waiting for the bus with their kids like it's a block party

and I can't keep my front window open to take in fresh air when the weather gets cool bc my house ends up smelling like an ashtray bc my neighbour insists on smoking on his tiny front stoop (that is basically right up against our front windows) instead of on the roomier back deck (where the smoke stays in his own yard)

#and yeah the townhouse is better than apartment living where the cig smoke would come through the kitchen vents #and stomping from above would shake the books on my shelves and they played heavy bass music at all hours #but at what point do i get to enjoy my own home unassaulted by the loud sounds and rank smells of others #i have been a polite and unobtrusive neighbour and all im asking is to SOMETIMES be able to leave my windows open #and to SOMETIMES sleep in on my day off without some dad laughing his ass off so loudly i can hear 6 houses over #why is the whole 'youre part of a community so there will be compromises' thing always playing out in a way that im the one losing #when im the one who fucking knows how to behave #i stopped smoking weed in my back yard and switched to edibles at home partially bc the guy next door has little kids that play #on the other side of my fence #and yet now i have to smell his nasty smoke coming in right under my front window
