So, last December my boyfriend got me into a series called Epithet Erased. At first I wasn't blown away, but by the end of episode one I was hooked! I just recently finished all of season one, which I kept putting off partially because I was in denial that it was already the end of the season and I have to say, I was not expecting this series and its characters to grow on me as much as they did.
In fact, Epithet Erased gave me the inspiration to finally dust off one of my older OCs and do something with her for the first time in years!
I'm not going to get into specifics about her history, epithet, etc. but when I initially made Charlie, I created her as a Marvel/DC OC. Over time, I tried expanding her interactions to any series where superpowers, vigilantes, heroes, and villains existed (think One Punch Man, Heroes, Raising Dion, to name a few). These were all fine, but part of me felt like they didn't really do much to compliment her character. Part of that came from feeling like she wasn't serious enough as a character, and because I wasn't content with her history. No matter my efforts, it just didn't feel like I could settle on anything for her.
When my boyfriend introduced me to Epithet Erased, that changed. It really helps that the series doesn't feel like it takes itself too seriously, while still having an interesting plot, witty writing, and wonderful characters. One of my favorite things about EE as a whole is the way it seems to effortlessly segue from humor and lighthearted silliness, to more serious, plot driven interactions. Those two work rather well together, in my opinion, and when I started seeing that for myself, I knew that it'd be perfect for Charlie and her quirky yet well meaning antics. The rest came naturally.
This turned into more of a ramble than I intended, but it really has been a blast reworking Charlie for the first time in a long time. While I'm still figuring out parts of her character and how they'll translate into the world of EE, I finally have a cohesive backstory for my girl, and it's a wonderful feeling. Had I never given Epithet Erased a chance, I'm doubtful I'd have ever found the drive to reinvent her character in such a fun, whimsical way.
If you're reading this and you've seen or heard a lot about Epithet Erased but have been on the fence about watching it, I really recommend giving it a chance. I've known people to give it a pass due to its lack of animation, and that's really a shame because I think they're missing out on something great. And if you do end up watching it and like what you see, support the series and @jelloapocalypse by letting VRV know that you want a second season!
Last but not least, the art that you see here isn't mine! The artist’s credit is in the upper left hand corner of every picture, all of which I made on picrew! If you like the art style that you see and want to play with it yourself, this template is one of the most diverse I've found on picrew and has tons of great choices in body type, skin tone, attire, and background! 100/10, would recommend!
