A bit of a specific idea, but I had a platonic idea for all of the characters in the Amazing Digital Circus—

Maybe all of them with a Wally Darling-like Reader? An example of such being Reader also speaking in a monotone voice that is both a little unsettling yet friendly at the same time, always making eye contact and never looking away, being able to eat things by blinking, being a lot more aware than they seem, greeting people individually anytime they enter a room, etc etc.

But also I can totally see kinger having a staring problem; be it because hes lost in his thought and happens to be staring or some other thing

I must admit, I think zooble would find you creepy, too <\3, or at least a little unsettling.. like sure they wont be mean to you unlike SOMEONE but they're a little put off by your odd behaviors

Though they would get accustomed to it in time, I think, especially since I have a whole "zooble ultimately doesnt care much about what's going as a means to cope w/ the digital circus as well as that just being their personality"

Does not like the eye contact, though; zooble seems like the type who wouldnt like eye contact... maybe I'm self projecting, though...

The eye contact definitely is what fed into the unsettling factor for them..

The eye contact makes her so so nervous, she doesnt really have eyes the same way everyone else does but it still... makes her feel off

Similar to Caine she does feel nice when you greet her.. yes she knows out do it for everyone, but that doesnt dismiss the nice feeling she gets that someone is. Well being nice to her...

not to rekindle old discourse if you've moved on, but i was listening to you & @kindlespark's interview on the complicated women podcast / have enjoyed reading your fhjy posts and wanted to ask your thoughts on why the beginning of the season felt so promising to you? i enjoyed the premiere and the premise of the stresses of 11th grade/the rat grinders as foils, but as the season continued i started to feel disillusioned - it seemed less and less like an interactive/collaborative story (cassandra's death, fig's quest to rehabilitate ruben, the ratgrinders being really hard to find/interact with in general) and more of a tour through some unsatisfying callback easter eggs (i simply don't care about porter and it kind of felt like not even emily did). imo the ratgrinders were set up to fail as a narrative concept ever since the bad kids got mad at them for grinding and brennan just sheepishly grinned and shrugged at the camera, and while i share your disappointment that there was no coming together/addressing the root academic injustices that plagued both the bad kids and the ratgrinders, i don't think it was as surprising to me, as the season had already felt too filled with bits/joking around to be that dramatically tight - ironically, i think they got too bogged down in roleplaying scholastic tedium. i tend to come to d20 with a mindset of like, this is primarily a comedy and if they end up producing a satisfying narrative arc, great (and they certainly have achieved this in the past), but i don't think it's a coincidence that most d20 seasons are regarded as having unsatisfying endings - i think it's an incredibly hard thing to do in a ttrpg setting, even for professionals, especially so if their instincts are more towards comedy. they are great artists and improvisers, but evidently that doesn't mean they can't fail to cohere, and i think this season suffered from a lack of investment in narrative all around - brennan not being as flexible with the plot as he's been in the past, the players i think (some anyway) feeling a little tired of these characters and playing them as more chaotic/violent than usual (kristen's random nudism, fig's truancy, gorgug's hatred/bullying of maryann, fabian threatening to skin ivy). idk, i'm just rambling at this point - my overall message is that i'm in agreement that the finale was a letdown, but i'm curious as to how you thought the promising themes interacted with the story/performances in the earlier parts of the season, cause when i look back at it i don't see a unified vision, just some individually interesting pieces that never seemed to fit together, and i don't think i just feel that way in hindsight, but am open to other perspectives (disclaimer that obv this is all opinion and subject to debate)

ok my thing is that 1) i love porter as a villain and i don't think the twist takes away from his character; i think brennan tied him to ankarna REALLY well and with genuine thought. the lore drop scene in the temple was genuinely chilling and very very cool to me and brennan clearly set up a lot of lore around it that was interesting and not just funny bc fig thought he was bad the whole time. i think porter is a great character and had the bad kids engaged with his philosophy of rage and not had ice feast completely nullify his threat he could've been a really compelling villain. 2) i genuinely had hope for the rat grinders because of brennan's insistence to make npcs like eugenia talk about them as foils, the fact that they used to be the high-five heroes, and the fact that he made them closer to unwilling participants than actual villains. seemed like genuine threads of complexity that the bad kids just didn't pick up on, but i also clearly was fooled bc that brennan didn't react to fig's attempts to convert ruben shows that he wasn't really prepared to have the final battle as anything but tbk vs trg 😭 i think the downtime system was actually really fun and effective at portraying both scholastic tedium while also embellishing the themes (rage tokens!!) 3) this probably wasn't made clear in the ep but i didn't expect d20 to write a perfect thematic story about addressing systemic injustices; i just wanted them to give me any kind of thematic acknowledgment in the battle at all and not just with ankarna. i am very aware that im always reading into the subtext of d20 seasons--that lament is more for the subtext that Could've Been. i agree with you about everything you've said wrt ttrpg settings and lack of narrative investment, but i had higher hopes because fhsy and tuc are so much better with their themes and the themes brennan appeared to be setting up seemed so… obvious to me…. it had me ignoring all the red flags 😭

- it‘s incredible how well cassie manages to lend a unique voice to each of her characters every single time. she just doesn’t miss does she?

- lin caster is the awesomest girl. i just love her because she reminds me of other cc girls in the way that she is kind of a very typical heroine on the surface but you can actually feel her emotions and she’s very believable & flawed & human and you just can’t help rooting for her + i love her friendship with mariam

- everyone is bisexual & it’s completely normalised i love it here

- lin & conor??? apparently they are the flagship which I know because I took a peek at the tag after they had two scenes together because the ENERGY OMG

- ahh yes, conor 😌 another pretty man with issues who’s in a lot of trouble and likes to cover it up with sarcasm, pompous behaviour, fancy clothes & vanity- you just can’t help but love it

- but also he‘s the biggest prick and i want him to have some sense beat into him by everyone around him

- i love how we see the complexities of their culture portrayed through lin who on the one hand is deeply ingrained in it and holds/has received a lot of love & care for/from her own people while also having been wronged & ostracised by them and how both can be true simultaneously

- as someone who‘s very familiar with multiple romance languages the languages in this book are incredibly entertaining to me

- SO MANY SECRETS & political intrigue hehehe rubbing my little hands together can’t wait for all this to escalate (because it most certainly will) 😈

Ok now if you don't mind my long-winded explanation, I use the terms amab or afab as a form of distinction between genitals in my smutposting bc I'm fine with such a thing, it's just writing for the male perspective that....bothers me? No that's not quite right, I do Discord rp and have played as men before, I think it's just more the fact that I write not just for other people but for myself too? If you read the dialogue for my demos and stuff, you'd probs be able to tell that this is all VERY self-indulgent—the reader's responses aren't really as neutral as I want them to be, leaning towards actions and phrases that I would use rather than cater to the general 'neutral' audience

Some explanations under the read more!! And sorry for the long post in general 😭

A lot of the animal analysis came from THIS website!!

A lot of it comes from actual in-universe lore about what kinds of personalities align with certain animals. In the His Dark Materials universe for instance, dogs and canines tend to align with those who dedicate their lives to being in service of others, because of basal attributes dogs have: loyalty, devotion, protectiveness, etc. Birds are sharp witted and driven, especially birds of prey- and they can also travel further away from their person than other dæmons, and for longer periods of time. They also tend to be solitary though they can work in groups. Dæmons also tend to change forms more when their person is young and discovering themselves, and they settle as they get older. This is both interesting, and very sad- considering characters with trauma can have dæmons drastically change from what they were as a child.

I also tried to steer clear of stereotypical answers as well. Animals like snakes, spiders, and insects have long been associated with "villainous" characters and associated with characters from locations like Mexico and the Middle East.

I'm still working on BlOps CW dæmons bc it's fun to figure out, and I don't know what any of the MW dæmons would be named per say, but!! On to the brief analysis.

Price & his Bateleur;

Bateleurs are birds of prey, known to be hardy, thick skinned, and unflappable. They're associated with passionate individuals, loyalty, close bonds, and strong boundaries. Work ethic is resourceful and efficient, dutiful and cooperative while being ambitious.

Ghost & his bearded vulture;

So first things first- aside from the fact that I think they're cool as hell and Ghost deserves a cool as hell dæmon- these things are STARTLING to look at. They're large, and very distinct in their appearance. They're extremely private, socially selective, slow to trust, straightforward, and non-expressive. That being said? They're also patient. They're cooperative and the bonds they make are close. In work ethic they can represent efficiency, dedication, prone to obsessive tendencies, and proactiveness. But despite its terrifying appearance, it only feeds on the dead- specifically on bones. They can get the reddish coloring seen above by mud bathing or drinking mineral rich water- despite how bloody it may seem, the reality isn't quite as frightening.

Gaz & his red fox;

I think Gaz can be written off sometimes, overlooked and underestimated- but he's very clever, adaptable, cautious, and expressive. He's got a lot of big thoughts and feelings that he's had dismissed in the past. I went with a fox because they've got a similar loyalty to canines but have a bit of a skittish edge to them, are a little more opportunistic and methodical. They're tenacious and confident while being very perceptive- and I feel like Gaz would be represented well by a fox!!

Soap & his mongoose;

Now, Soap initially seems like a canine type; ridiculously loyal, dedicated, so on and so forth. But I still uphold the bit from the original games that he and dogs do not vibe!! And he doesn't seem the type to not vibe with himself!!

That being said: mongoose are notorious for taking on enemies far larger than themselves or those that have some kind of an advantage, including venomous snakes (as in the notable story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi). They're capable of living independent lives and being solitary but are also capable of deep set loyalty and devotion to a family group. They're also scrappy and make use of their surroundings.

Laswell & her wolverine;

Laswell is a force to be reckoned with, as seen in-game both in the field and behind a desk. She's happy to interact with her people, but outside of that she's a little more curt and to the point. Wolverines are confident, assertive, and opportunistic, and can even be a bit aggressive at times. Laswell herself I think is more willing to compromise than what this choice implies, but I feel like that's more of a learned nature; inside, she's ferocious, and isn't one to back down from larger and more formidable targets.

Alex & his Rhodesian ridgeback;

Alex is loyal, willing to do what it takes to complete his mission- but for the longest time he was looking for something meaningful. Something more than just orders.

Rhodesian ridgebacks were bred for endurance, to protect against large predators, and are hardy in harsh environments. But too much alone time- too many orders that have no heart behind them- can make them unhappy and on edge. They prefer well known, trusted company over strangers. They're also notoriously stubborn. I don't know Alex as a character all that well but I think the connection is there!

Farah & her crested caracara;

While Farah is very intrinsically tied to her people and her community, she stands out as a leader as being guarded and forward thinking. She has a keen eye for skill and tactic, and her loyalty is only to those she chooses and it's something she holds close to her chest. She works smarter AND harder, holding her duty above all else. Most of these traits are associated deeply with the crested caracara. She, and the caracara, can also both be thick skinned and untrusting (understandably so).

The Josie and Pussycats film (SLAY) makes fun of the entertainment industry the entire movie by even parodying boyband obsession, product placements, and the trend cycles. The movie went over so many peoples’ heads when it was released so it bombed at the box office but it’s a cult classic for a reason. Highly recommend to watch!!! Also aging myself again by admitting I had both the dvd AND soundtrack as kid bc the songs are bangers. Honestly the 90s-2000s in general just rocked. This is the only meme I have of the film but see the product placement and the mockery of boy bands? Genius.

The 1D documentary is a perfect example of the boy band frenzy that JATP film was mocking bc they even had a small scene where they had a neuroscientist or someone similar in that profession (I haven’t seen the movie in a few years so I’m not 100% sure but I was a hardcore 1d stan and have the dvd bc their live vocals honestly slap. Their concert cover of teenage dirtbag in the movie?? Still waiting for the actual recording bc chefs kiss). Anyway the neuroscientist was saying that corporations/ music companies have these formulas to create the perfect idol down to a t after studying the phenomenons of rabid Beatles and Elvis fans in the 50/60s. It has to do with the happiness chemicals in the brain. Combine those with good looks and music? You can’t help but fall in love. The entertainment industry then purposely directs their carefully molded artists to vulnerable audiences (preteens, teens, women) because they will buy more products. Casey Aonso (another fellow 1d stan wassup girl) YouTube video describes their XFactor era HILARIOUSLY. War flashbacks. The clips about HOW BAD each individual one direction members auditions were but you could see the $$$ in the judges eyes bc the boys were good looking and you could tel the judges were plotting how to sell the boys good looks. And they did.

And boy do we know that formula works. Hybe overprices bts products on Weverse shop and y’all eat it up and sell it out every time. $200 for a REPACKAGED cd. I’ve talked a lot about parasocial relationships and media training, etc. While I think it’s fine to have a secret fantasy about marrying *insert celebrity crush name here*, I think it’s important to realize it’s a FANTASY. When I first joined the fandom on twt I followed all 7 members’ solo fanbases to get more specific content about each of them individually. No doubt, the most childish, immature, and unprofessional ones were all the jk fanbases. Like I was literally dreaming of coming across one fanbase that was levelheaded. Most of the other members’ fanbases are very professional and don’t thrive off of negativity (though actually a lot of Jimin and Hobi ones surprisingly are almost as bad).

But at least with pjms, Jimin was sabotaged by the industry and to an extent by the company so I get their anger (and also the way he’s used by shippers) even if they say some of the dumbest shit.

With jkks, though, they’re literally just delusional and obsessed with charts and numbers to an insane degree, worse than other kpoppies as a matter of fact.

Like with every solo album, I’d see solo fans of the members actually appreciating the music, or making theories, or analyzing the lyrics/MVs etc.. (aside from being hateful towards other members since most akgaes are like that) but with jkks? No what’s leading each conversation is numbers and records, to the point of making ridiculous comparisons and making up bullshit/lies due to insecurity. They don’t care about art.

And they’re the most insecure for no ducking reason and cannot for the life of them leave any conversation alone without having the need to explain how “jungkook is actually superior in every way” even about things jk isn’t a part of. Like he deserves better fans istg. It’s embarrassing.

They don’t care about anything (the involvement of Jk with Scooter), they don’t care about his artistry or his words or his thoughts, they just want achievements to brag about with other fandoms during fanwars. hi soooo i randomly found dgfh and let me tell u that this is everything i could’ve ever wanted on a fic i just love the way u write the reader because (as a self proclaimed lover of humanity) it is sosososo refreshing to see a character also embrace humanity as it is, with it’s flaws and complexities while never losing faith on the goodness of people. im loving the story so far !!! ur writing is amazing and it makes me feel so warm inside <3

aaaaand i also am a huge dc fan so i was wondering, who’s tee’s fave robin and who do u think would be miyukis fave dc character? (lord i’m so sorry if the question is annoying but this is the first time two of my hyperfixations are in one fic 😭)

like first off THANK YOU. i generally try to write my readers/ocs as not being cynical in regards to humanity just as simple baseline but with tee, it was a specific thing for her and in fact a pointed difference between her and miyuki. for me, i am also a humanity lover and just so tired of seeing cynicism/pessimism in regards to it especially in writing (and this is of course a nuanced convo but most of the time, i encountered just plain out pessimistic characters that made it so hard to enjoy the story LOL) so that’s why i did it. very glad another humanity lover can reap the benefits too. literally nothing makes me more happy to see others enjoying specific aspects i wrote for myself that they also enjoy as well!

NOOOO don’t worry it’s not annoying AT ALL ^_^ i’m literally SO happy to talk about it. dc and daiya have my brain held hostage, i’m constantly thinking about them together or separately. it was purely indulgent to make tee a dc comics enjoyer and i am sooo glad you are enjoying that too!!!!!

those are EXCELLENT questions that i haven’t actually thought about… i’m a fake fan HELP no i’m just kidding i’m just kidding. let’s see… i think tee’s favorite robin would have to be dick or MAYBE jason. they both have deeply robin-like qualities. they’re kind they’re likable they are perhaps the most true examples of robin being the light to batman’s dark and i think she would lean towards that. (which is not to say tim didn’t have that but he’s. well. you know. tim. and then damian. i love him but. he’s more of a shade of grey i would say — however we could also consider steph here too, since i think she embodied that light to batman’s dark very well, even if she was robin for a short period of time.)

for miyuki… that is so hard. deeply fun to consider however. my dc knowledge is limited unfortunately so i can’t consider a lot of people but i think he would either really like lois lane or john constantine. i know they’re both SO random but. genuinely feel like they’re good matches. for lois i am admittedly biased because tee makes a nice reference to clark and lois in the final part of dgfh but i also do think he would like her personality. they’re both. deeply stubborn individuals. and then john is. i think that one is self explanatory. he’s got that belligerence that miyuki would enjoy LMAOOOOOO

I absolutely LOVED this episode!! It was so good. And the DRAMA y'all!!! The ANSGT!!! Lovely lol xD <333. Seeing Marjan's side interspersed the others looking for her was just mMH! Amazing :DDD. Also I am LOVING these Marjan storylines we're getting!! A slay for real :D. She deserves it and she is serving SO HARD!! I don't usually say serve but it felt appropriate here lol. Anyway yeah it was an amazing, and super emotional 😭😭💔, episode :DDD!! So great 🥰🥰❤️. And so many nice happy moments in the beginning!! Or sweet moments :D. Especially with the rest of the 126 been after they find out she's missing but also on Marjan's side, like with Mouse, even if (though) she was just Marjan hallucinating herself :)). Anyway!! Lovely ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

I'm talking about the bit about firing Owen lol. Anyway, they were all great at their jobs!! They all played a big role in finding her :)).

Marjan! Our lovely girl :'). AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! She did so good this episode 😭. She slayed so hard :D. Everything she did to escape and fight Grant was just incredible, especially given that she was actually (physically) doing it all alone. Like, dude, she was in a car crash and then she got SHOT o.o! Girl was going through it xd. And I REMEMBER saying last week (not technically by the time I'm actually writing this but shhh) with the promo "maybe that's young Marjan or something?" but I didn't think I'd be RIGHT!!! Not totally, anyway xD. Then I was like, okay so she's not real, but Marjan hadn't seen the car yet, so how is she imagining her (after other people didn't acknowledge her)? And then it WAS MARJAN!!! I also figured the flowers would be a family member using the nickname and I just- aGH!! And I'm so proud of myself for guessing that (and the whole thing in general lol) :DD! Anyway, I feel awful for her - hasn't she had enough traumatic car crashes?? As a kid, in the beginning of season 3, and now?? - but she was amazing this episode :')). Everything with finding out it was her was just 😭😭😭. And even before then, just for Mouse thinking she's a separate character, and then it's extra heartbreaking when you think back on it after finding out it was Marjan :'((. D':, but also :')) because it was just so good xd. Anyway, yeah <3. She did amazing at her job this episode (staying alive xdd). I love her so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode! I thought it was super amazing, and I'm glad we got to see all of the 126 (minus Tommy unfortunately) helping find Marjan - that was really great :'). They're my family your honor 😭. I don't mean that literally, just kind of in a "they're my babeys" kinda way xD. Anyway, we got to see everyone, but we still got a good focus on our wonderful girl Marjan <333. She did so well, and I am so glad she's okay 😭😭😭❤️ xd. I'm also lowkey kinda glad Mouse wasn't real, because any more casualties (not that I'm sad about Grant, but I just mean like, other people) from that crash would just be extra heartbreaking :'((. Still, knowing it happened to Marjan is just :'((( 😭💔. But, yeah :'). I loved the episode, I thought it was absolutely amazing. Everyone was go great 🥰. I'm so proud of all of them, especially Marjan <333.

ive caught up w blue lock.... (anime only not manga sorry I usually dont read mangas lol) some Thoughts:

biggest critique is the use of the overpowered self insert characters lmao. like isagi is the generic japanese teen boy who despite having no significant athletic ability is able to rapidly improve and compete w some CRAZY talented guys, ego is the slightly older generic japanese 20 smth whose ideas about things are taken 100% seriously and given a bunch of money and little to no criticism ('cant argue w him hes RIGHT') for some truly batshit ideas. I’m not a huuge fan of that sort of thing (as I’m not the target audience) and it makes me roll my eyes p much constantly sorry :/

second biggest critique is that I CANNOT take soccer this seriously ksagjavshshfdsshhsh sorry but it is Not that big of a deal 😭 plus the amount of goals theyve been scoring from the start is super unrealistic I feel (tho maybe thats a biased opinion from the only soccer ive watched being whatever my dad has on in the english premier league or whatever??? idk I feel like those are always 1-3 goals total for the game for the most part)

HOWEVER. I do like the show I promise. listing good things now those are my only gripes really!!!

bachira is v v v good, he's my lil guy ❤️ I also like nagi a lot tho!! which surprised me bc hes not usually my character type but idk.... hes fun teehee. his relationship drama w reo and new friendship w isagi is keeping me SO hooked

general shoutout to all the side characters tbh; ive liked p much all of them so far?? also the drama squad of nagi/barou/chigiri all rooming together KILLED MEEE I love them sm

despite criticizing isagi in the first point I actually do also like isagi a lot LMAO. I didnt think I would but ive been really engaged by the way he thinks about the matches and puts things together, esp in the second selection! makes it somewhat more believable that hes made it so far but also just like. the connections themselves are v cool idk it feels like a good version of the whole 'ive planned this 30 steps ahead of u' thing

I also like how theyve been balancing the 'you need to work w a team to maximize potential' and 'you need to have your own individual skill to be worth anything' thing to! I was actually super pleased by the way barous arc ended; having him suddenly be willing to work w people wouldnt have felt right, but I wouldve gotten real sick of him if he never changed either, so him and isagi just fighting the whole time on the field was a cool way to resolve that!! new ways to combo and everything hehehe

bachira and isagis relationship is making me SOOO crazy u have no idea. they like each other so much and theyre so ready to throw hands at any moment but theyre literally making out while they play against or w each other ahhh. mentioned in the tags of my earlier post but I’m SO excited to see whether or not isagi actually picks bachira if/when he beats this 4v4; I feel like atm bachira hasnt really evolved explosively like everyone else yet so if that stays true and isagi ends up picking rin instead I’m gonna be SOO pumped to see how bachira responds to that!! I think thatd be a really cool growth arc for him and isagi both tbh. plus a nice parallel to nagi and reo since I think bachira would be less pissed and more motivated, might get the evolution that (it seems) reo isnt getting 👀 ofc I could just be wrong hahahaha

final mention I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ops and eds theyre so fun!! the songs are boppin hehehehe

I have a lot of random ideas for future ones in the back of my head, but these are so helpful and fun because it’s not just, extremely self serving all the time LOL! You force me to think about things I’d usually be like “this is too much to research,” but then cause you asked, I HAVE to, and it ends up being very enlightening. And also expands the world building a lot!

misc lore drop day 45/?

Okay this one might be a struggle bcs it means I'd actually have to implicate real historical figures in my, already rpf, yaoi 😭😭It’s one thing to make double layered rpf, but to reference them interacting with actual historical figures is…IT’S FINE! I mean obviously my first and only thought is: Vivaldi. I know I’ve talked about this on my blog already because I am a broken record with my favorite fun facts but, I don’t care, I’ll say it again. My favorite Charles VI(who Seb is paralleling) anecdote is him being such a big fanboy of Vivaldi that he reportedly talked to him more in their meetings in 2 weeks than he had to his own ministers in two years; he also gave him a medal, and made him a knight because he loved his music that much. Gaaaahhh I’m just so obsessed with that actual historical record that shows people back then were just as fanatic as we are about the things we love! Whoops, sorry, history lesson. That’s the most I’ll say about specific artists, because again, I don’t know how I feel about naming actual musicians. Though maybe somebody like Charles could be a young and upcoming composer(that’s also a prince hehe) that Seb is a huge fan of. I like to fit in more of the drivers, so that could actually be pretty good lmao. 

As for music in general, it was actually a pretty important thing at this time for royals to be musically trained, or at least interested in music. They really honored the arts at this point, especially music, to the point where they’d hire composers(and a large variety of musicians) to both play for the court but also teach the monarch how to play/compose Also opera was sooooo big, definitely one of the most popular pastimes/events for them. So please imagine vettonso getting dressed up in their fanciest clothing, and sitting together in their special, honored seats in the theater. Seb definitely likes the more comedic ones, whereas Fernando prefers the dramas, and makes fun of Seb for crying during tragic scenes. But is also weirdly touched about seeing such an intimate side to his husband, and how easy it is for Seb to show his emotions so openly. He always ends up lending Seb his handkerchief. Then always denies it when Seb tries to hand it back, like “I SWEAR YOU’RE TEARING UP TOO RIGHT NOW!” Fernando, subtly wiping his eyes, replies, “no talking during the opera.”

Also hmmmm if I had to pick instruments. I think they both play, but Fernando is more talented and focused, whereas Seb is willing to try anything, even if he’s not always great. Fernando seems like a harpsichord kind of guy to me, he would go crazy with it. I think he’d like how much dexterity and focus you need to master it. Meanwhile Seb’s like, “which is the loudest/most fun?” So I think he’d be at least okay with most baroque instruments, but prefers to learn new things rather than spend all his time just mastering one. Now I’m imagining them playing a duet together…of music they composed together. Aghhhhh imagine sitting together at a desk, adding parts to the piece, and arguing with each other over it. I think it’d end up being better than any piece they could compose individually, because they balance each other’s extremes out. Getting ink all over their hands, and then each other.

Does he tell her that she’s all he wants? I might need some fluff following the flangst bc omg. 😭 Lovely writing as always.

Honestly I made myself sad while writing that 😭 but in my head it just tracks. The thing about Cel is that I sort of imagine that she spent a lot of her early adulthood feeling...a little superfluous. She was in her early hundreds in the SA when Sauron rose to prominence. Both her parents and so many of her peers played huge parts in the SA right up until the Last Alliance, but Cel...

...well, I headcannon her as being very soft? She's never hurt anything in her life (I don't think she could). She's trained to fight because she had to be, but she has never actually been in one (as a fighter). In my head she grew up as sheltered as she possibly could be because both Galadriel and Celeborn realized just how gentle she was. And they valued that, of course! But everything Cel is accomplished at has very little acclaim in times of war.

So she really did feel a bit like a giant child, a coward. I think she dealt a lot in her early adulthood with struggling to recognize that while she is soft, she is not fragile. I headcannon that a lot of people really put this identity on her-- of being this fragile, silly, breakable thing. Galadriel's daughter who stays home and weaves and paints and plants roses when everyone else is off at war. And this really went to her head in the worst possible way.

She and Elrond were apart for so long, and she's very aware of the fact that Elrond was herald to Gil-Galad, now is a keeper of one of the Three --like her mother-- and a general and tactician. He's also a skilled politician and a strong-stomached, highly skilled healer. He's so wise and brave and clever and Cel really doesn't see herself that way. She's really gotten it into her head that Elrond loved her before the war, but now that he's back and 'wiser' and 'hardened' he'll be so disappointed in her. She worries that she'll bore him somehow, that she's uninteresting, and has gotten it into her head that she isn't an asset to him (not that Elrond would care!), but a liability. Why would he want another liability to take care of? She doesn't want to add to his stress.

She spent so much of her formative years living in a time where her skills weren't valued. They are valuable skills, of course! But when everyone is thinking about sieges and great battles and the Enemy they're going to value political, tactical, and martial skills over homemaking and gardening. I don't think any of this was ever said directly to her, but there was a sense of...being condescended to, and it does things to you when --you know-- you see which skills are being currently valued and none of them are yours.

Man, this got longwinded. Basically Cel's self-esteem really took a hit during the Last Alliance. She gets it back fairly quickly! But she just genuinely thought that Elrond would come back from war and despise her for being so soft because shit he went through so much trauma and then returned home and she had just??? stayed at home?? growing flowers???

I'm just very passionate about female characters who are allowed to be traditionally feminine and have traditionally feminine skills. We don't see enough of them in fiction, especially treated as valuable, strong individuals. Because misogyny. Cel is a badass. She's also traditionally feminine. And I adore that about her.

You have a really cool use of color In your art, do you have a process to decide the colors you use?

thank you 😭 colouring and picking out colours is genuinely one of my favourite parts of drawing, so i do tend to put a lot of thought into them!

generally, my characters tend to have a set colour theme to them? i’ll pick one or two that contrast with or complement their skin tone (eg: csalren is pink, so for their clothes they get black to match with their hair, a lot of orange to complement the pink, and usually a tiny bit of blue or teal that both contrasts with the warm tones and goes with their Mech Lore:tm:)

this means that for any piece involving that character, i have a set palette to work with, and then i can deviate from that as needed for the specific piece

if making characters as a pair/group (whether on my own or with someone else) I’ll try to match up the colours in a way that looks good with the other character! eg: csalren was created as a pair with my friend’s character nitakret, who also wears a lot of bright/warm colours, and has two main forms that are seen with honour: tiefling version whose palette is the inverse of csalren’s (pink hair, dark skin vs pink skin, dark hair) and their true changeling form, which has a fairly monochromatic palette.) for both versions, he wears a lot of bright clothing and colours, so i went for a colour scheme that wouldn’t clash too much with them!

this is where i should start talking about actual principles of colour theory, but the truth is i mostly just feel it out as ‘this is working, this isn’t,’ and a lot of it is just intuition and practice. it’s still good to have those basics to fall back on! but if you asked me to start listing the actual rules i would start beeping like a broken microwave and have to go look them up

However that being said, I usually fall back on a couple different rules!

warm lighting, cool shadows / cool lighting, warm shadows is the main one! light always has *some* colour to it and that will affect the way everything around it looks, so keeping that in mind helps me keep everything balanced and looking nice (i say this while fully knowing that i only do this about half the time and completely forget about it for doodles and smaller things)

i always tend to go for bright, vivid colours rather than neutral or earthy tones because i just find them more fun to play with? 99% of the time if I’m not happy with a piece it’s because my colours are too desaturated or dull and i need to brighten them up a bit

there’s also usually some lore or story meaning to the colours i choose! especially in larger pieces, i like to hide extra symbolism in them, and colour is a really fun way to incorporate that. eg: the more blue and green in a piece involving csalren, the more hold their mech, the monarch, has over them and the less of their own individual identity is present.

short version: I’m just vibing and throwing paint around until it looks good. colours go brr
