#i have a lot of sympathy for mary as a character and i dont see it be extended often

mary unknowingly (and agasint her very own wishes) taught neil how to be selfless for the people you love, how to be self sacrificial to keep them safe. she raised him telling him to run, to hide, to keep himself apart while she betrayed those concepts. she weathered the worst of the monsters, maybe sometimes using herself as bait, and when they were together she would hold him so close to her it hurt. not saying that she didn't put money where her mouth was (with all of the alienating and physical abuse) but she is to blame for neil's inability to let go, as she herself taught him by example throughout all of their time on the run (and possibly before). I completly believe that by the end of book three she would be furious at all of the decisions that he took for the sake of others, all of the choices he made based on passion, but she would be at peace knowing he did not have to run and hurt anymore, that he was surrounded by the people that loved him and, above all, as safe as he could possibly be. that was her goal, and she made it possible to the best of her capabilities.

I saw some really lovely art that depicted some of the Splatoon Idols more chubby than they are and like... I need to rant because I think society as a whole has a massive issue and we need to seriously talk about it.

I think that a lot of people have a deep rooted hatred and disgust for fat people and in my personal opinion, I find that kind of thought process to be vile and sickening to my core.

No, being fat and just living isn't promoting an unhealthy life style to others and if you think otherwise I kindly ask you to go jump into a volcano.

No, body positivity isn't saying that being obese is healthy and that you should strive for it, body positivity is body acceptance. Accepting what your body is and treating yourself with patience and care rather than guilt and shame. Did you know that bringing shame upon a fat person via bullying and harassment actually discourages them from wanting to change how they look? FUNNY HOW THAT WORKS OUT HUH?!?!!? BULLYING IS... I think that beauty standards across the globe have made it so that millions and millions of people believe that being skinny or muscular are the only way to be attractive, that being skinny or ripped will get you a partner and if you are fat you are unlovable.

As someone who is chubby, due to beauty standards and fatphobia online, I've felt disgusted and shame over looking at myself in the fucking mirror. Every time I look at my belly, I just wish it would magically go away, and I look at my own flesh and blood with a sickening feeling. Sometimes I think about doing something... drastic to my gut...

I've thought about literally starving myself to get rid of my fat because of what people say online about fat people, treating them as monsters, as lazy disgusting unlovable beasts... I saw any bit of fat on my body as a mark of shame and disgust...

Fatphobia is so deep into people's brains that even people on the other side who are incredibly skinny and sick get ignored because they are seen as healthier than a fat person.

And besides fatphobia, I've been seeing a lot of hate and backlash for fans making different takes on the characters, making Callie have darker skin, making Marie black, etc etc. And like... if you hate on that kind of fan art in the community? Go fuck yourself. Honesty. Go fuck off. I want you gone. "Oh why did you draw Marie like that?!?!" It's a fan interpretation dumbass, it's not canon, it's just friendly fun. If people wanna draw Callie as black then that's perfectly fine.

If you're a true fan of Splatoon then you would actually like seeing the characters in different interpretations...

I'm so disappointed in the god damn Splatoon community yet again, a community full of various different people from different backgrounds, yet a hatred for fat people still lives on so casually. I think you have mentioned in som meta that we as readers are supppouses to understand the marauders were somehow worse bullies than the proto DE of their time and I admit I struggle with this concept, because these children grew to be racist terr0rists.

I think its part of the reason a lot of people dont have any sympathy for teen snape and quickly dismiss it as sirius and james "bashing a fascist" (which I doubt anyone has a problem with irl),I dont think thats the reason they did it, at least not the main one but its not like I cant see why its a popular position in fandom.

I don't really believe that I've said that, rather my position is that Mulciber and James are intentionally set up as parallels (specifically what James does in Snape's Worst Memory is I believe supposed to be the same thing Mulciber does to Mary Macdonald). In any case we don't see enough of the proto death eaters to do anything beyond speculate. Also extrapolating backwards from them as full fledged Death Eaters is a bad idea, the Death Eaters are an entirely different environment and structure than Hogwarts, plus they are actually under the direct command of Voldemort. For evidence just look at the difference between the way Draco acts before he gets the mark and afterward. He's a dickhead always, but there's a drastic increase in violence/danger. (For the same reason I believe that Regulus Black, only one to be confirmed by canon to have been marked at 16, should be treated differently from the other Hogwarts students in meta and fic, he's much more dangerous than all of them).

Mulciber et al are obviously worse than the marauders purely because they want to join a terrorist group in the future (and the reason for this isn't endogenous to the marauders actions in the way it is with Snape), but that this is mostly down to circumstance and that they demonstrate enough casual cruelty and indifference to the way their actions could hurt others that I tend to attribute that more to their specific environments than anything more innate (except maybe Sirius, ironically enough given that he's the worst of the 4 bar Peter), and that it's possible, hell even likely given what we see, that during Hogwarts specifically the Marauders engaged in more immoral actions. Of course since that wasn't their environment that makes all the difference, but it is something I keep in mind when thinking about their characters.

As for motivations, that's made pretty explicit in text with the "because he exists" line, which is JKR's way of holding the readers hand and making it explicit that the motivations aren't noble. Add to that the total lack of mention of any of the marauders ever clashing with the proto DE along with many mentions of them hexing randoms and it's fairly clear to me that that was JKR's way of trying everything possible to avoid their motivations being misinterpreted as noble. Alas.

As for sympathy... eh? This is probably an unpopular opinion but both Sirius and (especially) Lupin are significantly worse people as adults than they are as teenagers, and I don't find being sympathetic hard at all. Hell, even more unpopular, teenage Lupin and Sirius are more moral than teen Snape (he is indeed a power hungry racist wanabee terrorist) but that flips by the time we get to canon (yes I know Snape bullies children, what Lupin does in third year re:Sirius is an order of magnitude worse and Sirius abuses his slave). Sympathy isn't really motivated by morality all that much to me. It's more related to if I find the character annoying or not.

Snape/Marauders is much better approached from the frame of reference that they're all rather terrible (unless you go utilitarian with Snape but that's niche and not what people tend to mean when talking about good or bad people), but that's irrelevant given that they're also cool as fuck. Lots and lots of great scenes and dialogue and amazing aesthetics and on and on. It's a much better fate as a character to be charismatic and terrible than nice and bland.

its been a looong time since ive FIRST played rejuv so inaccuracies either stem from old versions or bad memory.

i was able to tell that melia was a character that would quickly be killed off, but i didnt correctly guess the reason why. i thought it was a cheap shot to gather sympathy. i dont remember whether i was able to predict her coming back, though. hmm

well now i really will be upset if something happens to her! genesis syndrome is no joke, considering its labeled with body failure in multiple areas. i do wonder if its her shiny powers that caused this, her stronger abilities, or something else (my theory of her being half of a person comes back to mind...)

i want her to chew out the space hags more. holy shit, please. also, the rehauled doomed future was so cool for her character... that brief segment in zeight where she met little baby venam was just.. ugh. sweet. and the talk with emma and the first (?) appearance of variya was very cool. a huge favorite

unsure of what to do with this beyond stating what i would enjoy seeing in canon. and thats! i really want more stormchaser stuff especially with Her. im not sure if she has had the chance to properly confront anyone after learning about project: rapture.

beating a dead horse but i am wholly convinced that anyone who says she is a mary sue did not play the game, holy shit. reading comprehension for a lot of people who play this game is zero.

i suppose on another note.. i really liked the fairy tale field melia fight. yes, it was hard, but i definitely think that was the point. i also enjoy how it may allude to the pangoro and zorua story from the beginning, with it being a fairy tale.

she and venam, of course. i hope venam manages to recover and shake off the innate need to try and be overtly mature, because its definitely hurting their relationship a little bit. that being said, that little conversation with the trio in the third layer on the matter was so sweet.

uh im not too familiar with many headcanons, but do you want to know a fact and a theory? in very old versions of rejuv, melia managed to throw a xen grunt who tried to grab her.. very far! i want to believe this is a manifestation of her archetype powers showing up very early. more specifically, i think she was using seismic toss!

these two moves are level 0 for arceus. i might be reading too much into it, but with what i know now, i thought it was foreshadowing.

I absolutely loved his character and the fact that he was one of the few people who wants justice and is honest made me love him even more

Him playing Go Hu Dong was amazing as well and I didn't recognize him at all at first like he played it so well with the accent, costume and wig and everything

His accent and language switch in between English and the Busan accent Korean was so fucking sexy🥵

Another one that annoyed me angered me so much🙄

Like she was ruthless and had no mercy when it came to bullying and putting people down that she thought were a rival or putting people down in general

She didn't change even when Rona died

She also went as far as to like cheat her way to win the Cheong Ah Art High School trophy and blackmailed Cheon Seojin to win the trophy

But there were times where she would show emotions and those would be often her break down and weak moments

And those moments would really show how she is broken inside and puts up a careless and brave image, she is someone who needs healing even though healing takes time

I also saw someone saying like 'oh Seok Kyung hates her mom so much'

Yeah she hated her mom but she didn't hate her to death like she didn't wish death upon her

Seok Kyung was heart broken when she heard Suryeon's death and that showed that she still loved her mom even though Suryeon didn't give birth to them

I was heart broken when I saw that she cut her hair because here was no one there to tie it for her bc Suryeon loved Seok Kyungs long hair and that's why she didn't cut it but after he mothers death no one was there to tie her hair for her

I started seeing her in a different light after a while bc again it showed that he character was very broken emotionally and needed healing

I'm interested about seeing more of her character development after the last ep where she defended Rona

Also my girl is so hot, another one that was serving amazing looks

It annoyed me so much how he defended his sister so much, fell for her tricks, covered up for her and did anything she said EVEN though its wrong

But after some time I understood that he cared for and that she was the only family left to him

I mean Seok Hoon hate Joo Dan Tae so he doesn't counts and Suryeon was dead at the moment

I will still not forgive him for bullying Seol A even though he regrets it

It also annoyed me how he didn't stood up for Rona at all in the first season even though he liked her

By he got so much better in S2, he was even part in the revenge plan

He is literally the human CCTV camera in Hera Palace like he knows more than even the viewers know

The way he was protective of Rona when he found out she was alive was so aDORABLE

And my man was amazing in the last episodes

Like I sometimes just was to 🤜🏻👩🏻

But sometimes I wanna hug her😩

Idk I feel like she became a horrible person bc of greed and that he father and mother placed too high expectations for her

Instead of praising her for her accomplishments her parents wanted her to do more

Maybe that's why she was desperate for love and affection and found that in Joo Dan Tae even though he pretended to like her

But that definitely does not dismiss her horrible actions

But also the harsh past made her the could hearted person, like she left her father to die

She felt more care towards her daughter after she almost lost her because Eunbyeol tried to commit suicide

She was in alot of pain and you could see it in her cries and when she was on the phone with the person

Soyeon's acting was amazing in that scene

She started to care more about her ex husband and daughter when she saw how much Eunbyeol was suffering and she realized that she genuinely liked Ha Yoon Chul hwen she saw how horrible Joo Dan Tae was

I did feel bad for her sometimes but after seeing that she didn't change I really didn't feel any sympathy for her

She needs therapy

Girlie was shocked when the doctor said she is losing her voice like bestie you are screaming every episode

She was also serving amazing looks every episode

His entrance in S2 with the helicopter was damn hot

In the context of Kevin Can F Himself would you say that Raymond as this emotionally broken man who can’t escape his abusive family and just as much a victim as Debra? And for King of Queens Carrie is caught between her father and husband neither which she can truly escape from until both of them die?

honestly i dont think theyre really that comparable other than a character being caught between a spouse and their parent. like. for context i havent seen an entire episode of king of queens and i will die having never seen an entire episode of king of queens. but i dont see raymond as a tragic figure or someone whos emotionally traumatized by his mother because his mother only ever goes after debra. from what ive seen of everybody loves raymond, marie (the mother) is toxic to raymond & his family in the context of being obsessed with him and thinking no one will ever be good enough for him, and by way of that, puts all of her anger into how she treats debra. Which is why debra is the "tragic figure" (in comparison to kcfh) because her mother in law treats her like garbage every time they talk and raymond doesnt do much in the way of defending her (sometimes he does, sometimes he doesnt. but marie always has the last word). I think theres definitely an argument in which a genre-shift could show that raymond is traumatized by marie's obsession with him (and there are definitely horror movies to prove that) but for what the show itself is, you definitely feel more sympathy towards debra constantly fighting a losing battle in which raymond usually says "it is what it is" and tries to move on. i think theres a lesson to be learned from raymond & marie about the toxicity of mothers feeling ownership over their kids, but thats not really something kcfh goes into at all so it doesnt really apply in this context

again, i won't speak on king of queens because i have absolutely no idea what goes on in that show but. i think the reason that kcfh himself directly references and parodies kevin james shows is because of the huge male egos that dominate the female characters lives. i imagine king of queens is a lot of the husband saying "i know best" and the dad saying "no i know best" with the wife having as much input as "you two are annoying" or "men! cant live with them cant live without them". so looking at it from the kcfh writers pov, you can see they view both debra and carrie as women who don't have much agency in their relationships or their lives due to all/mostly male writers rooms who want to use women as a punchline or part of the obstacle, not part of the story

Why I ship Draco and Ginny?

Seriously nobody asked for this 😂 tbh this is just my Harry Potter and Drinny journey. Also this is just me posting something to start this blog with. So, here's how everything went down:

So before anything I want y'all to know that I started reading Harry Potter at like 14? 13? (don't remember exactly). I was given the first 3 books as a gift. I was instantly hooked and finished them all pretty quickly. And because I am a slut for grey characters, Draco managed a place in my heart even when I low-key hated him (In the first two books lol). He was interesting to me because I wanted to see where his story would go? On the other hand I already had a soft spot for Ginny since Sorcerer's Stone. I had older cousins who wouldn't include me in their stuff so I found her adorbs and relatable in the first book and my sympathy for her only grew in CoS. Book 5 Ginny though, was my fav Ginny because she really put Harry in his place and hexed Malfoy. She became one of my favourite side-characters along with Luna and Neville.

Despite my love for her, like most people, Ginny ending up as Harry's main love interest definitely surprised me. JKR did a good job of convincing me though. I accepted quite easily that Harry and Ginny were endgame but before embracing Hinny, I was a believer that Rowling would make Ginny Weasley end up with Draco Malloy.

Why?

Some might ask and God, I wish there was some proper logic behind this but for some reason, my 15 year old romantic self was sold on the idea that Ginny and Draco are going to be Romeo and Juliet of the Wizarding world?

No, I don't know why I thought like this 😂😂😂 It just made perfect sense in my head at that time for Drinny to happen, I do laugh now at how cheesy I was as a teenager. I just loved thinking about the wizarding world, imaging about other characters that weren't the trio.

Anyway, so this revelation of Drinny possibly being Romeo-Juliet happened during Order of The Pheonix, Ginny hexes Draco with bat-bogey hex and for some reason I was fixated on that particular interaction in the book. I used to imagine Draco being flustered that little Weasley had hexed him, it just gave me so much thrill thinking how annoyed he would be that a girl got the best of him, I imagined him being turned on while he was mad at her, or that he would eventually get attracted to her while trying to get back at her. I just imagined them having the enemies-to-lovers sort of relationship and it just made sense.

Now let me tell you when I read Harry Potter, I lived in a small town in Pakistan, not only was internet not easily available there, it never occured to me back then to actually search for the Harry potter fandom online the few times i did get a connection, so I had no idea of "shipping" or "OTPs" and I didn't know any spoilers. So yeah I used to create scenarios in my head where Draco and Ginny would meet in the Hogwarts corridors and they would argue and have intense sexual tension, or how Draco would want to take revenge on Ginny for hexing him and it would lead to them to having an angry shouting matches which would lead to make out session etc (Yes, I am aware we call these 'headcanons' but back then I was not familiar with fandom terminology).

Anyhow, I finally get my hands on Half Blood Prince Book and lmao remember the scene where Harry is spying on Draco, and then Blaise (or someone else? Idr correctly) brings up how hot Ginny is, I was losing my shit because I was like, why else would JKR bring this up in front of Draco? I was sure that she was building up a secret romance between Drinny behind the scenes because we see stuff happeing through Harry's eyes. Yes i was connecting dots of my conspiracy theory, or at least wishing that that is what was happening.

So y'all can now probably imagine how freakin' surprised and confused I felt when Harry got jealous over Ginny and Dean in the Astronomy tower? 😂😂😂 Like i did not see Hinny coming, it hit me like a wrecking ball... But ofcourse I accepted Hinny at the time because I also loved how tables had turned and now it was Harry who became obsessed with her, I also loved the whole "But she is Ron's sister, I thought I liked her as a sister, Ron will be so mad".

So anyway I go move on with my life and finish Deathly Hallows but ofc Harry Potter series felt like my childhood ending and I couldn't accept it. In my head, even when I had embraced Hinny, I still felt the love for Drinny and saw their potential, by this time I was finally allowed a phone. (Yeah I got a mobile phone when I was almost 16 😂) and while searching for random hp related stuff online I came across Fanfiction...

I started reading fics because I wanted to know what happened between the time when the war ended and when epilogue happened. I also wanted more answers about all the characters. However, I used to find most stories/character ooc, so I used to leave most fics in the middle and move on, very few fics could satisfy me because few writers nailed JKR's Harry.

Anyhow exploring the world of fanfics to read something that I actually like, that's when I was introduced to the giant that is dramione. Dramione introduced the idea of fanfiction deviating from actual books, so I gave them a try but then there were so many Dramione fics on Fanfiction.net but their fics pretty much very early on put me off of that ship, and then I altogether gave up on it because the disrespect to the Weasleys especially Ron was astounding to me. Also people turned Hermione into a mary-sue character in fics which also put me off. I feel like people dont know how to seperate Emma Watson from Hermione. Anyway that is a rant for another day.... So yeah, It was then when I randomly decided that maybe I should check out if anybody wrote Draco and Ginny fics and it was like magic 😍

ff.net had some great Drinny fics Some of them were post series, some of them during their Hogwarts years. Some were pure fluff others K I L L E D me with angst! I still have issues with fics where in order for Drinny to happen they show how bad/abusive Harry-Ron-Hermione are. I leave them instantly, or fics where Ginny is ashamed of being poor (i feel like she loves her parents and everything they've done for her) or fics where I find them ooc... but over all Drinny is a ship which has given me some great fics and those fics have helped me deal with personal stuff and cheered me up when I was down.

Also reading about them gave me an insight on how healthy a relationship between them can be where they can both provide each other with validation, comfort, love and passion.

Reasons why i think they work:

1) Ginny and Draco are opposites but they compliment each other rather than repel. Eg: Ginny and Draco both belong to ancient pureblood families yet the environment and ideology they grow up with completely opposite, their values are opposite even when their world is the same. That gives a lot of foundation for both of them to learn from each other.

2) Ginny is fierce, talkative /bubbly (Ron mentions how it's strange that she's quiet around harry because usually she won't shut up), stands up for those she feels are being unfairly treated (Luna, Neville), she's quite popular as harry realises in year 6 that she has her own friends, she even gets invited to the "slug club"... I think this works so well with Draco who hides his emotions, is under control of his feelings... He's also somewhat of a bully in early years which just goes so well because can you imagine how explosive their encounters would be in the great hall? Draco saying mean things to Ginny just to wind her up and her reacting and never backing down. I think Ginny is really one of the only ladies who can match him inch by inch and call him out on his bullshit. Maybe wind him enough to lose control even.

3) They both play quidditch, can you imagine the friendly rivalry? That is one thing they can bond over, they can also bond over their ancient families and their respective experience of growing up in wizarding world post voldemort... It can be similar and different. They really have the potential to be attracted like magnets. Sorry dramiones, but the angst and enemies to lovers that Drinny delivers... No other hp ship does it for me.

So yeah guys Drinny is my guilty pleasure and I think Draco and Ginny could have worked out really well as a couple but off course I understand that JRK wasn't writing a romance 😂. There is just so much to explore in their dynamic though and I am glad for all the fanfics and fanarts are out there because they really satisfy my curiosity and love for them.

of course i LOVE almost every swan queen scene!! it’s hard for me to pick favorites because nearly every one pings something else inside me omfg. I don’t think there’s a single sq scene I couldn’t write an essay about WHOOPS. so lemme try to answer this with just some of my favorite non-sq scenes 😅

Emma in True North: hoo boy, this is probably in my scenes to rewatch but that scene on the road, MAN. there’s so much careful buildup with emma’s abandonment issues and how much she sees herself in nick and ava. and they have a chance she never does and dammit, she fights for them!! she fights for two kids just like her and they get their moment and jmo turns that realization into agony with sheer artistry in emma’s FACE in their final moment. god.

Regina in We Are Both: this was the episode that sold me on Regina! tbh i’d marathoned s1 as soon as they announced mulan was going to be in s2 so i hadn’t been focusing much on thinking before that?? and then suddenly there’s Regina, in all her rich and layered stories, and i fell hARD. the whole narrative of the episode- Regina resisting parental abuse until she becomes what she’s always feared to be free!! and that translating into her saying ‘no, this isn’t going to continue to the next generation. even if i lose the only thing that matters to me.’ do u ever stan!!! I DONT KNOW HOW TO LOVE VERY WELL. END ME.

Emma in Firebird: listen. never follow ur idols to ur next fandom or you’ll suddenly realize they actually hate women and then get ‘’’muted’’’ for ‘’’yelling at her too much’’’ but jane espenson did a GOOD with the flashbacks in this one (present day still literal and figurative hell tho!!). The concept of Emma’s jacket as armor isn’t an original one, but the execution was honestly stellar. Emma forging this connection with an older hardened woman who can’t let go of the past either!! emma destroyed and remade into the lady we met on her twenty-eighth birthday. GOD. SHE FINDS HER DAUGHTER. and i gotta say, the vulnerable-tearful-young thing jmo was doing w emma in s5 didn’t work for me in terms of what present day was trying to convey, but it’s a perfect fit for that flashback, i WEPT.

Regina in Quite A Common Fairy: Lana OWNS the cave scene with Tink, god. The depth and breadth of emoTION. The episode and the narrative itself builds it up from episode one! because this regina on the road to redemption but finally giving us a glimpse into the emotional and mental state she was in as the young queen- she has all this rage and she’s SUSTAINED by it, it’s her only real truth and constant and she’s terrified of what might happen if she lets it go for even an instant and chooses hope instead. (Lana’s voice when Regina says she’s afraid that without rage she might just ‘—float away’ is something that has stayed with me for a long, long time.) REGINA PULLING OUT HER HEART TO MAKE A POINT. far from the last time she will, but how affecting!! god!!

Emma and Snow in S1: There are a few moments i’m thinking of (and i’m literally writing this on the treadmill so pls forgive the lack of episode names) and all of them are so stellar, god. The moment when Snow finds Emma living out of her car early on. Snow and Emma sitting at the table at the loft holding hands. Emma lying down next to a crying Snow. Snow yelling at Emma for being so selfish when she tries running off with Henry?? EMMA SHOWING UP AT MARY MARGARET’S DOOR SEARCHING FOR A ~PERSON~ AND MARY MARGARET SILENTLY LETTING HER IN. Snow and Emma work best in S1 in the silences and the fights, where they’re allowed to just care and be family, and I treasure each of those moments as much as they do.

Regina and Zelena in the Kansas: There’s a lot of effort put into this dynamic right near what seemed like the end, playing with how exactly Zelena perceives her happy ending to go- and then Regina strikes it all down by being different, by changing, by being someone Zelena hadn’t believed either of them capable of. And then Regina goes to Zelena’s cell and offers her!! sisterhood!! my god. i instantly fell in love with the dynamic in that moment and i’m forever pressed that the ‘it’s nice to have family in town’ line was cut. because you can tell that regina craves family and craves unmaking this second monster of her mother’s and zelena was going to TAKE that second chance and hey! this seems the perfect time to go off-message and

Belle in Family Business and Heroes and Villains: imma be honest, i like belle just fine in the early seasons but i have zero interest in rumbelle, which means a lot of fast-forwarding through her scenes. But these two scenes were ENCHANTING. Mirror Belle preying on Belle with the truth that she’s afraid to face! Emilie does such a fantastic job conveying so much cruelty in that scene, I was gaping and enthralled and hoping shattered sight was going to work exactly like that (and tbh props to ginny for doing a hella creepy snow at the start of Shattered Sight). And that town line scene!!! What a stunning, evocative scene. Belle reclaiming agency and taking action in such a 100% cold-blooded but necessary way!! that’s my ravenclaw babe!!!

Mulan and Aurora: I was young, and I Believed, and I Believed for a very long time. I am appalled at my naïveté too, don’t worry.

Regina in Enter the Dragon: LOOK it’s not about the leather but it’s a lil about the leather!!! I really appreciate both Regina in the past and present in this one and also how gay it is, and I’m most charmed by lil evil pep talking nugget Regina who just wants you to be the very best villain you can be! It’s such an artful melding of the exuberance of young!Regina and the delight in chaos of eq!Regina and i, for one, am a fan.

Emma (and Henry) in The Stranger/An Apple Red as Blood: my gOD. Okay I think one of the first times I cried while watching this show was in Emma’s desperate, hysterical denial to August about the curse. She’s so clearly hit rock bottom and she’s TERRIFIED of believing and it’s breaking her. SHE DIDNT ASK TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYONES HAPPINESS. SHE DOESNT WANT IT. THAT IS CRAP!!!! i love her!! i love emma swan!!! i do!!!!! and then moving into the end of the next episode when she tells henry she’s leaving and just!! ‘henry! life isn’t a story!’ man this show had some incredible early work. sigh. emma kneeling in front of henry begging him to listen! my god.

Regina in the Cricket Game: so i’m leaving out all my fave sq moments which severely limits the number of regina and emma scenes i can talk about here but the flashbacks in this one SURE ARE SOMETHING. regina has hit rock bottom in this set and you feel it in every moment, in her REGRET THAT I HAVE NOT CAUSED MORE PAIN and frickin stABBING snow and that dark scene with the candle oh god. this is a regina who doesn’t think about looking back anymore but who doesn’t think about looking forward, either, and she’s terrifying. it reminds me a lot of the scene later this season in Welcome to Storybrooke where she takes out snow’s heart and ‘see? i can have everything’ but there are tears sliding down her face. regina in enraged despair is something to behold!!

Henry (and Emma and Regina) in Operation Mongoose: Henry doesn’t often get lengthy times to shine that aren’t about other characters, but he was literally a YA hero in the author’s universe! man! what a kid! and his scenes with bandit Regina are some of my all-time favorites, as is that heartstopping moment when he reaches the top of that tower and flings the door open and Emma KNOWS him. reader, i wept. i wept hard. talk about your earned moments!!!

Emma as Dark Swan: posture! clothing! positioning! voice work! dark swan was a revelation i’m still rightfully bitter about, because she was EVERYTHING in those early episodes. the way she caressed snow’s face in first episode of 5a. the faux-innocent with the calculating eyes on the ship with whats-his-name. every interaction with henry where she was trying to be a PERSON. the way she moved! the way she felt more reptilian than human! i wanted to know everything about her!! (then i did and quit the show lol) honestly some of jmo’s best acting to date, i’m forever in awe.

That Still Small Voice: look, this is an episode about a cricket and it remains one of my favorite quality ouat episodes. Archie sells it best as an adult influenced by his past without quite knowing it, and Archie and Henry make for a really engaging dynamic in here. There is nothing about Archie’s professional behavior that doesn’t make me want to scream but this remains a very, very good episode.

Emma in Sympathy for the De Vil/Lily: okay this is cheating a little because so much of this is also Regina but!! Emma individually shines in this narrative and throughout 4b. From the moment she finds out about what her parents had done, you can watch it slowly draining a part of her?? yes her eyes got redder but there was also this kind of apathy about EVERYTHING. And tbh the Cruella episode is pretty awesome on its own (I love the slow revelation that Cru is the villain, what a stellar execution of a fave trope) but WHEN EMMA KILLS HER. In the exact moment that Cruella says ‘heroes don’t kill’. that’s what pushes emma over the edge!! and then emma ready to kill again the next episode because she feels like she’s sliding into an abyss, i couldn’t BREATHE. emma is incredible when the narrative lets her be angry, and i wanted So Much More. Speaking of which, Emma getting angrier and angrier and almost losing it in The Snow Queen was more of that anger!! i am HUNGRY for it.

Regina and Snow in The Evil Queen: This episode is messy af but damn did my heart skip a beat when a hooded hero saves Regina and tears off her hood and it’s SNOW. This episode does so much of what makes Snow/Regina so fascinating and frustrating, both in the present and the past. Their interactions in the woods moved me! changed me! and Regina had already crossed the point of no return but oh man, oh man, the way they’d almost gotten somewhere for a minute there.

Regina and Henry in Save Henry: A classic, a work of art, and I’ve said so much about it in the past that I’m exhausted just thinking about expressing it all again now. But what a STORY of an evil queen who falls in love with a little boy. What a narrative!! The promo pictures from this episode came out when I was sitting in the hospital for a checkup while I was expecting my daughter, and I was tearing up and the nurses thought it was about the ultrasound. I’M NOT PROUD. This is a love story!!! And it culminates again in A Curious Thing, by the way, which put another ten years on my life, an Epic !

Emma and Henry in New York City Serenade: boy was this a journey, but I was absolutely spellbound omg. This was a love song to a fantasy but it’s a fantasy that never unmakes Emma– she’s afraid of commitment and happiness and everything permanent in her life that isn’t Henry, but she’s still going to take that leap despite herself. It’s a wonderful character study that captures Emma’s essence in a new world, with a new past.

Snow in The Miller’s Daughter: Snow is at her best when the show isn’t painting her with rose-colored glasses and we get to see her darker side, and I don’t think she ever gets quite as dark in the first three seasons as she is when she’s standing there, smiling earnestly at Regina as she tells her that the key to Cora loving Regina is in the poisoned heart she holds. My god. It’s so incredibly cold-blooded and vile, and it’s absolutely the kind of manipulative pragmatism that suits Snow best. I am enthralled and horrified.

Neal and Emma and Henry and Gold in Manhattan: This is one of those really cool scenes where even though I don’t particularly care for half the characters within it, everyone acted the hell out of it and it’s so GOOD. There’s so much tension and you’re holding your breath through the squabbling, and then Henry shows up and you KNOW. You know what’s going to happen and you’re terrified for Emma and it’s so visceral, right up until the instant when Neal demands Henry’s age and Henry shouts ELEVEN and my god, my god. What a reveal. What a scene.

There are more!! so many scenes and moments i’ve loved over the years. Emma and young!Lily! Snowing in Snow Falls! Anna of Arendale!! Snow and Emma in Lost Girl!! Ruby in Red Handed! The David/Emma dragon fight in A Land Without Magic! Regina tearing out that heart in The Doctor and meeting Daniel again?? Regina and her father in hell. all of Hat Trick. i think twenty is a good place to stop, but hoo boy, when this show was good, it was GOOD. alas.

friend: i don't know if i could watch the vampire diaries from what you tell me. it just seems like caroline forbes is too perfect of a character and that sounds kinda boring.

me, a bisexual woman who came to the vampire diaries for the men and stayed for the women, who loves caroline forbes w all her heart, who has never, and would never, speak an ill word of Caroline Elizabeth Forbes-Salvatore in her entire pathetic life, who mainly sat through 8 seasons of a show she felt overall lukewarm towards–too many conflicting feelings as the seasons progressed–for Candice Rene King née Accola's performance as one of my favorite fictional characters of all time: [scoffs] now what could i possibly have said that would give you the impression that she's fucking perfect??

AAA thank you i'd thought i'd be killed for those asks! but for realsies though... while chloe IS still 15 shes done a lot of shit and that can't just be excused with 'she's young' if ppl are going to say the same shit abt lila? but honestly though.... give my girl lila chance to grow if you guys will do the same for chloe. #endlilahate2017, we can do better than this (on another topic: lila demonization in fanfic grosses me out too)

naw u rite. chloe cant be redeemed just like that. she has to grow and develop and apologize for her behavior before she can be cosidererd redeemed. she is also a victim of Bad writing imo, and is mostly a tool to cause lots of akumas and give marinette another antagonist. but like even despite that she gets sooo much sympath in comparison to lila.

imo lila has harmless explanations (not excuses) for all her “bad” behavior. like, new girl, no friends, ofc she gonna try and get ppl to like her. lila is probably very insecure tbh and really needs ppl to validate her, so she gets attention via lying and stuff. she never djd anythinv to outright harm anyone until after ladybug’s outburst (before anyones like Oh No, Lila Stole a Book, remember mari stole adriens Phone, both girls did these things to keep adrien’s perceptions of themselves good), and even then she was under the influence of an akuma.

but for chloe, even if she does have Explanations, like often goes out of her way to make disparaging remarks. her attitude has much more consequences in comparison to lila. chloe has literally caused several people to feel so bad that they get akumatized: nathanael, alya, alix, maris uncle, sabrina, kim, i think mylene too…. probably more. she takes pics of her classmates in embarrassing positions and sends them to the whole class (kim), has her only friend steal things from marinette (diary and hat design), sabotages mari’s uncle at the food competition and more. The only “third dimenson” to her character i can remember seeing is her smiling once when sabrina comes back to her, and even then its probably more for herself rather than for valuing sabrina.

like i said before i dont think chloe is irredeemable but she has to go thru some major development before she becomes a decent human being. the Only times ive liked chloe is when people have written her development really well in fic, she has a long way to go in canon.

tl;dr chloe has done way worse things than lila and still gets lots of sympathy in comparison to her, this is probably due to some racism in the fandom combined with the fact that the volpina we all thought would be a hero turned out to be an akuma (also chloe has been around the whole season, lila only been here for 1). and if zag is going to redeem someone who frequently bullies people to the point of akumatization, they better be “redeeming” someone who just wanted people to like her.

(also ngl, the only love square fic i read was before volpina came out, and since then ive just turned to reading rarepair fic so ive managed to safely avoid a lot of lila demonization. idk why but the love square is just like…. Bleugh to me)
