Do you have any advice for people making OCs/sonas? Yours are really well rounded and unique and I'd greatly appreciate the insight of someone who got a passion project off the ground!

So this is a very broad topic, and it varies a lot based on your own creative goals, what kind of characters you're creating, and where you want to use them. Creating an OC to be used in furry pinups is a little different than creating one for a dramatic story. But I'll try to give some general advice on how I do things for the types of characters and stories I tend to work with

Heads up: this will be kinda long lol

The germ of an idea

For me, I'll generally be inspired to create a character starting with a small number of core traits. These could be anything. A color scheme, a body type, a job, a hobby, a personality archetype, an outfit, a visual motif, a functional role in a story I'm working on, a noteworthy facial feature, a weapon, a relationship of some sort to an existing character, a single scene or joke I want to use them for. For furries and fantasy characters, species is usually one of the first things I'll have an idea for, which tends to get the ball rolling fairly easily since we have all sorts of cultural associations with different animals and fantasy creatures.

Any standout character trait like this that you find compelling can serve as that initial spark. The inspiration can come from anywhere, but it's often just a matter of knowing yourself and your own tastes. What do you like? What are the people in your life like? What really speaks to you in a character? What's an existing fictional character that you'd like to rewrite and take in a different direction? What's an aspect of yourself that you would like to see represented more often in fiction? It doesn't have to be something super deep or fleshed out right from the start, though. You can start with something as simple as "I want a black cat character" or "I want a character who dresses like an arcade carpet" or "I want a character who looks scary but is actually nice." Whatever it is, it's something that differentiates the new character from the ones I already have, because otherwise I'd just be using them.

Contrast

From there, you can start brainstorming other traits that might go with those core traits. Some of those may be traits that naturally complement each other. Continuing with the black cat example, maybe you wanna play into the common cultural perception of black cats and say that this character brings bad luck, or is associated with witchcraft. However, I often like to give characters contrasting or even seemingly contradictory traits, which can help elevate a character beyond a stock archetype. Real people tend to be a walking ball of contradictions, after all.

I've talked a lot about how I did this with the main cast of SLARPG. Melody is a fox, traditionally a crafty and untrustworthy predator, but she's extremely introverted and gentle. Allison is a bunny, but instead of being a meek and cuddly little prey animal she's an outgoing fighter who loves a challenge, and she has a muscular build. I think this kind of thing gives characters some fun flavor, and can be really effective for both comedy and drama. For an example from something I didn't write, take Senshi from Dungeon Meshi. He's a dwarf, and he embodies certain stereotypical aspects of dwarves - he's a short, buff man with a big bushy beard, he lives underground, he's stubborn and doesn't like elven magic - but he also goes against some of them. Instead of being an expert on mining and blacksmithing, Senshi is a culinary expert who has a deep appreciation for the natural ecosystem of the dungeon. He's a weirdo among dwarves for not caring about the wellbeing of his axe and for using his super awesome shield primarily as a giant wok. And that's what makes Senshi fun and interesting.

So going back to our example, instead of going with the stereotype, we could make a black cat character who has comically good luck, or who's superstitious and afraid of witchcraft, or who's an extremely rational person who always believes in science over superstition. Or maybe you roll with the bad luck angle, but instead make the black cat be the victim of their own bad luck in some interesting way. Maybe this black cat has terrible luck with love and can't hold down a relationship. Maybe this black cat is an aspiring speedrunner who consistently gets the absolute worst RNG possible in every video game due to their own bad luck. Maybe this black cat has accrued a horrendous gambling debt after a long losing streak and has loan sharks coming after them.

These are all just hypothetical examples, of course. I don't exclusively make characters with ironic contradictions like this. The idea is just to build on those core traits you started with in interesting ways, and that's one of my favorite ways to do so. But honestly, a lot of the time execution is more important than the sheer originality of an idea, and sometimes really putting your all into playing a trope you love straight is the right move.

Specificity

Regardless of what direction I take a character in past that initial seed of an idea, the key ingredient tends to be specificity. To give them specific details beyond the most stock possible version of that core idea you started with.

This is something I internalized from Tim Schafer, via a blog post in the behind-the-scenes backer material for Broken Age. Sadly I'm not sure if that stuff is still available, but I did save this particular post about creating characters since it really helped me, so I'll directly quote a chunk of that post here:

No two characters would approach a problem or react to events in the same way. At least, not if you’ve designed the characters well. If you’ve left them too vague or superficial, if they are merely functional elements in your story instead of individuals, then they might react in the same way. And that’s a problem. So to avoid that, I’m going to talk about one the most important parts of character development: specificity. Making sure your character is a specific individual, not a stereotype. A unique character, different from anyone else in the world. It doesn’t mean that they have to have wacky gimmicks, eyepatches and crazy accents. It just means they have to be specific. For example, let's create a new character. Let's say your story has a scene where your main character gets in trouble in school. So you’re probably going to need a school teacher. Imagine a school teacher for a bit. Do you see her in a little red schoolhouse? Maybe a bun in her hair? An apple on her desk? Thick black glasses? Let’s put a ruler in her hand for good measure. Done! We have our teacher character. She’s ready to be in the scene where our hero goes to school and the teacher sends her to the principal’s office for passing notes. Right? I mean, this character doesn’t have too many lines, so why develop her character any more? The problem is that this teacher is a very shallow stereotype of a teacher. She has no specific attributes that make her memorable. She’s the teacher you would get in a set of free clip art. She might not have many lines, but if all your supporting characters are this way, your story will be more bland than it should be. Even if this teacher is only onscreen for a minute, she should be unique and different from any other teacher in the world. Luckily, it's not actually that hard to make her so. You just have to ask some very basic, specific questions.

Tim goes on to explain how simple exercises like filling out character sheets with basic questions about your character (there are a million of these online) can help push a character beyond a stock archetype, even if it's a minor supporting character. Questions about where they're from, their likes and dislikes, their beliefs, their goals in life, that sort of thing. For minor characters especially, a lot of these details may never actually come up in a story, but just asking even a few of these questions and giving them specific answers helps you see them less like an archetype and more like a real person in your head. Maybe you never bring up your character's backstory or their favorite sport or what kind of music they listen to, but just having a specific answer for questions like that might help color the way you depict that character in subtle ways. It makes it feel like they aren't defined by just that one core trait you started with, and helps make the characters and world feel more alive, like there's stuff going on with them beyond the bounds of the story or the drawing.

It's a careful balancing act, though. It's easy for a character to feel like they're a collection of too many unrelated gimmicks and quirks. Again, like Tim said, these specifics don't have to make for the craziest, most original character ever, there just has to be something there.

Let's go back to SLARPG as an example, where I combined broad character archetypes I liked with more specific personal elements that I felt like I wasn't seeing enough in the fiction I liked. Melody is riffing on the common idea of the reserved healer character in the RPG or MMO party and the shy girl archetype, but she's the main hero instead of a supporting player in another person's story, and she's also a fat bisexual trans woman who draws a lot of little details from my own life. Her interests, her relationships, her opinions on things, her personal hangups and dreams, these all set Melody apart from other fantasy healer characters and define her as Melody Amaranth. Specificity!

But it doesn't always have to be super deep, especially if you just want some characters to draw for fun and aren't planning on writing a story with them. Take my fursona. I've always loved dogs, so I made my fursona a dog. I chose a Samoyed in particular because I think Samoyeds are the cutest, and I hadn't seen hardly any anthro Samoyed OCs at the time. I leaned into the breed's signature fluffiness to help my fursona stand out from other canine OCs. She has simple identifying traits like being fat like me, wearing glasses like mine, and having a hairstyle kinda like mine (when I tied my hair up in a bun, at least). And there you go. Fursona achieved. She's not a wildly high concept character, but she doesn't need to be

Anyway I realize that this is mostly about the writing aspect, so here's a few quick bullet points about designing a character's appearance:

Face and body type variety are good, but personally I would say lack of body type variety is worse than same face syndrome

Knowing some stuff about shape language is good, but you don't have to be completely beholden to the "circles are friendly, squares are sturdy, triangles are scary" shit. I'm generally more interested in using repeated shaping in different parts of a character's design as sort of a shape motif. Melody's body, hair, and tail are all made of round, swooping shapes, for example. (This is more applicable if you're designing cartoonier characters as opposed to realistic humans, obviously.)

Knowing some basics of color theory is also good. I like using complementary and contiguous color schemes on characters and generally try not to use too many distinct colors on one design. Black and white and grey and various browns are good as neutral colors to balance out the colors of the rainbow, and gold can be a nice accent color

A small handful of identifying accessories can be fun, but don't rely on those to make a design stand out. Ideally your character should still be identifiable even when not wearing their default outfit, or even in silhouette

Aaaaaand I'm gonna call it a wrap there! This is a huge topic, so hopefully this helps with at least some of the basics! At the end of the day, though, don't beat yourself up if you can't sit down and force yourself to come up with the most crazy awesome OC ever. Just have fun and be yourself!

7. Auction

Okay, so this is one part of a SUPER self indulgent concept of mine, one I'm honestly kinda shy just talking about it but the idea is, in the DC universe, I think we can all agree there's slave markets out there. And I feel like speedsters would be considered very valuable, on account they're some of the few beings who are attached to this ancient and powerful force, Barry and Eobard being especially prized due to the fact of Barry being the generator of the Speed Force and Eobard being the only known host of the Negative Speed Force in the entire universe.

So the plot is basically Barry and Eobard get captured somehow (insert convoluted explanation here) and is delivered to a slave market to be sold and become someone's trophy pets/slaves. This picture is the part in the story where Barry and Eobard get put on display for prospective buyers~

10. Bargain

This is a weird one but kinda like in the same vein of the last one, if there's a market for speedster slaves/pets, there's also a open market for any illegal, special "delicacy" meat. I think there would definitely be a belief among some races that by eating the flesh of a speedster, it would allow you to harness the Speed Force along with a host of other benefits.

I could've named this better but this is supposed to be Centaur Barry, because I love Barry and I love centaurs so naturally I had to make an AU for it. There's a whole series of pictures I would very much love to get to someday featuring Barry and the other Flashfam members as centaurs but I gotta learn how to draw horses first OTL

18. Barry Jesse

This is part of my unofficial Barry series where I draw him with a character I wish he had more screen time with, this time it's with one of his own family members, Jesse Quick! Barry and her never really had a relationship in the comics, the most we got to go off of was Jesse having a lot of respect for Barry but that's about it. In my AU, I thought it would be really fun if Barry and Jesse actually had a sort of brother-sister dynamic~

Barry is an only child and so I think it would be neat to see him have a sibling kind of dynamic with other peers of the Flashfam. Jesse would be older in my AU, more closer to how old she was in the Pre New 52 age because if she's too young, Barry would most likely just adopt her as another of his Flashlings lmao

24. Barry Superman 2

Once again with the lazy titles. I tend to reuse my old canvases so that kinda explains why I just add a number to them lol Anyway, this one is actually based on a Tumblr post I stumbled across ages ago about Clark and Barry losing their powers so they team up to investigate a case and stop bad guys using their respective skills as a forensic scientist and a investigative reporter (if y'all know who posted that, pls lemme know!!) And anyway, this was very much up my alley hah There's a handful of doodles I wanna do for this (because I can't ever just be satisfied with one drawing) where Barry and Clark navigate the hurdles of Being Human, being shot at by criminals, accidentally jumping out the window or smashing their face into doors because they keep forgetting they're depowered. It's a lot of fun to think about~

29. Battle of the fashion tastes

Silver Age Barry and Eobard duke it out, claiming they have the better fashion taste. Thad and Bart aren't impressed lol There's also a doodle about Barry showing up to Ralph's wedding in less than conventional wear. Ralph is speechless, to say the least xD

36. Cats

This is a crack doodle I did randomly one day. I'm honestly surprised DC hasn't made this joke yet cause it's really hilarious in hindsight

39. Clark reading Cinderella

This is a silly little comic that's actually based on a cute and charming Golden Age/Silver Age Superman comic where Lois leaves her super bratty niece with Clark and he tries reading her the story of Cinderella only for him to immediately fall asleep and dream of becoming Cinderella's Fairy Godfather and throwing hands with her evil stepmother. It's great, I really recommend it (sadly I don't know the exact issue number, if anyone does, please drop me a line!)

40. Compromise

Eo tries to compromise with Barry: if he leaves Barry's family alone, Barry will let Eo do whatever he wants to him. Barry agrees. The ending is...unexpected aha. Here's a sneak peek of Eo's smug rat face tho~

42. Cover Flash

This is a redraw of that one really gay Flash cover because it haunts me in the corners of my mind What was the artist's mindset drawing it? Did Joshua Williamson come up with the idea? I feel like he had to. It's just so hilarious and gay, I can't- Anyway here's Barry's looking very disturbed about having his privacy invaded

45. Crackship doodles

This is one the sketchdumps for one of my absolute favorite DC ships of all time: EoIvy. It started out as a "haha that's a cute ship" to "they are infesting my brain, the roots are so deep right now and there's no hope for a cure" askdhsgkdb I have like, a million doodles ideas for them, I just need to organize myself, and also find an Ivy design I wanna use (no hate to the Injustice design, it's... alright. Tho I prefer her having green skin over human tones)

53. DC Barry and Itty

This is a little comic I started from before I read a lot of comics. I heard that Hal had a partner/pet Itty and at the time I didn't know how Barry really acted or if he knew about Itty, so I had him being very unnerved by him. Itty is just happy to have another buddy xD

55. DC Barry's Obsession

Oh this is a cute one. Okay so, I don't know if you played or watched the game Lego Batman: Beyond Gotham (which by all rights should've been a Green Lantern game but that's another topic for another day) Anyway, long story short, the Justice League gets hit by all the different Lantern emotions, Barry in particular being hit by the Orange Lantern Greed beam. So now you have a speedster that's taking anything that isn't nailed down, from batarangs to buildings, much at the dismay of the other heroes. Thankfully, he's still pretty reasonable even in this greedy phase, just telling him "No" is enough to make him put the stuff back.

I wanted to play with this concept cause I thought it was funny and cute to see Barry in this different kind of light. I haven't come up with something solid yet but I want to get to it sometime~

56. DC Barry's Weird Fears

Okay so, this one is a crack/silly idea I wanted to do where Barry gets affected by Scarecrow's fear toxin or maybe the Yellow Lantern fear or whatever but anyway, Barry is forced to face one of his nightmares...which, as it turns out to Eobard's surprise, isn't about his family or loved ones, but something else entirely--food. Yeah xD

I won't tell you the punchline cause I still wanna draw it someday so I'll just leave you with what's probably the best Eo drawing I ever did lol

Actually what it says on the tin, for once ahah. This is me practicing drawing Eo in the DCAU style and also experimenting with a cartoony style of my own.

I like this result a lot but I feel like it's not as stylized as I was going for. Plus it also feels a little too close to other people's existing cartoony art styles. Tho I do love how Eo looks like some rich bad guy from a cartoon who eats shit at the end of the movie lmao

66. DC Hole In The Ground

Oh boy, this is a throwback LOL I drew this back when I was a baby Flash fan and I didn't know the characters very well at all, I didn't even really like Eobard at this point

Some context: this tales place in an AU where, idk maybe Barry somehow took all his rage, hate and pain away, but Eobard is now a mentally adjusted, normal man. The Flashfam tho, hasn't taken too well to him regardless. This is a short crack comic where the kids, Wallace, Wally/Bart and Avery?? Jesse?? Take Eo to a six feet deep hole in the ground cause they needed his help. Course it's all a ruse so when Eo gets close to the hole, they push him in and try to bury him.

Don't worry, Barry got Eo out, tho not without a disapproving expression as he asks the kids if they're proud of themselves. They are xD

73. DC Nobody Wants to Save Thawne

This is also part of the "Thawne is Redeemed" AU funnily enough. The concept is a twist on the classic "villain takes someone hostage" scenario where some bad guy speedster takes Thawne as a hostage, threatening to kill him, to which everyone cheers. Bewildered, the villain then goes "OR...I'll let him go, to which everyone screams "NO"

Yeah, even good Eo still isn't liked by anyone xD

76. DC Slade's New Pet

This is also based on comic canon. In the Flash New 52 comics, Evil Future Barry makes a throwaway remark that he was trained by Batman, Slade and Lady Shiva and I have since then been utterly captivated by this idea, and I waNNA FISTFIGHT DC, LIKE HOW ARE YOU GONNA MENTION HE WAS TRAINED BY THE WORLD'S BEST FIGHTERS AND THEN NOT EVEN SHOW A FLASHBACK DO YOU HATE ME DC??! AUGH

ANyway, my pic takes place during Barry's training with Slade and what that might look like, complete with a speedster whistle. Barry's pretty much Slade's pet speedster and he's not amused about it 😂

OK so, something to know about me is that I don't really tend to do the whole OC thing. Not that I don't love it cause I do! I love the idea of making up characters for media I'm in and seeing other people's fan characters is so fun and inspiring. The problem is, I'm just really bad at creating characters OTL

But for DC, my need for a alien speedster finally won out and I decided to just make them myself. She's still very much in the early brainstorming stages, sadly I also don't really have any art of her so far but I do have some ideas for her:

• I haven't figured out the details about her species but she's basically based on an octopus, tho I would like to take some more liberties with it. She definitely has tentacles because I especially wanted her to have those and bc she's octopi based, she also has a beak for snatching and eating prey. As for her gender, I imagine it's different for her species compared to ours, but in human terms the closest thing to what she is would be a woman. As for age, she'd be the equivalent of 40-50 years old.

• Her story so far is she has lived a relatively happy and peaceful life, successfully raising her young with her mate for many years. Eventually though, her offspring has grown up and left, her mate has either died or is off world somewhere (still workshopping this) For most of the time, she ends up alone. She struggles with Empty Nest Syndrome and tries to fill her lonely days the best she can. Until suddenly, one day, she's struck by a lightning bolt that comes down out of the sky. I think you can guess what happens next lol

• She gets superspeed and is rightfully terrified and disoriented as all hell. She has no idea what's happening and probably thinks she's either dying or cursed. It takes a long time for their Green Lantern to help her but eventually they do. Word gets back to Hal who knows just the guy to call. Cue Barry Allen.

• He meets up with and finally gives her some peace of mind and helps her accept her newfound powers. She's still very unsure but she takes to Barry a lot and forms a great relationship with him.

• Anyway, from here on it would be her going on to find her purpose in her new family of small bipedal aliens, aka the Flashfam and finally feel whole again.

• Maybe I'll have her teach other aliens about the Speed Force or smth idk, I'm still figuring things out • As for her powers, I really kinda wanted her to utilize the Speed Force differently than the other Flashes. I'm not sure what it would be but I'm sure I can come up with something

Keep in mind, some things may change but yeah, I like her a lot and I hope I can show her to you guys properly someday~

90. Deer Style

This is also based on the Silver Age, more specifically a panel of Barry carrying Eobard in a very odd way. It kinda looked like he was carrying him deer style so I'm using that as my excuse heheh

Honestly, I'm very tempted to draw a compilation of all the bizarre and often unsafe ways speedsters carry people in the old comics cause writers really got kinda wild LOL

Okay so this is based on @longitudinalwaveme's AU of an someone else's AU where Kryptonians has invaded Earth and enslaved humanity, but instead of it being centered around Gotham, it's about everyone in Central/Keystone City. AUs like this really make the wheels in my head turn and I also just love a good ol' enslaving AU lmao Anyway, this was actually fanart for it, these being some What If doodles of Barry and Henry where Barry discovers he has powers as well as Eobard cause it made me really curious where he would fit in this AU, like what if he ran back in time to save Barry/stop the Kryptonians. Maybe the 25th century is still Kryptonian dominated but they have long since become more benevolent and restored a lot of humans' rights to live freely again. Maybe Kryptonian and humans live among each other. Idk, it's so intriguing to think about~

97. Drunk Barry

This is an idea I had for Pre-powers Barry getting bomb ass drunk at like, a party or something. My personal headcanon is that he would definitely be a cross between the super sappy drunk and the weird drunk who info dumps about disturbing true facts lol

This is a another comic I def wanna get to eventually, it's very fluffy and tooth achingly sweet so I'm excited haha

101. Eo Medieval

This is one idea I had for how Eo could possibly be reinvented for Dark Knight Of Steel, that fantasy/Medieval Elseworld comic DC has going around.

While I'm very grateful the comic at least briefly mentions them and DOESN'T kill them off horribly (the standard for us Flash fans are so low OTL) I was very disappointed in how little we get of speedsters in this universe. Like, you could do SO MUCH with them, their lore allows a lot of room for some fun and cool reinterpretation but alas, I guess I'll have to do it myself

For this one, I wanted to play off the concept of Eobard being a teacher. I thought maybe he could be a Professor who's shrouded in mystery, a cryptic who holds the knowledge of future events that will unfold. He is almost always seen with his students, a group of misfit children he may or may not have saved from less desirable situations. His goals are unknown but he seems to delight in turning kingdoms against each other.

That's pretty much all I have for him. I also don't really know how Barry fits in this AU but I guess we'll see~

108. Eo Wants Commitment

115. EoBeth

OK so I'm pretty sure I'm one of like, two people on this whole site that cares about Beth Arden and wanna see her make a comeback in Flash lore.

Some context: Beth Arden is a one off character from Flash: United They Fall. She's a lieutenant of the Speed Force Resistance who wears the Shift armor, a specially designed suit to allow humans to be able to go up against a speedster (though she is still very much outclassed by Barry). She was a brief antagonist before turning around and helping Barry.

Her story goes that she was a pupil of Eobard's and loved him a lot (whether it's romantic or not is not clear but it seems to be the former) She helped him design the machine that would give Eobard his powers. Unfortunately when he used it on himself, he touched the Speed Force and was this driven insane and shortly afterwards he killed millions people instantaneously. He then became a tyrant who rules Central City through fear and drugging his citizens by making them crave Speed Force fixes, so they'll worship him.

Beth naturally decides the best way to deal with this is to travel back in time and kill Eo's idol, Flash (which...one, I love how home girl just immediately decided to kill her crush's hero, that's wild. Two, it's a little confusing why she chose to go back to 21st century and kill Barry instead of like.... preventing the creation of the machine that made Eobard go insane but, well maybe she figured that he would've found a way regardless idk) That doesn't work so she teams up him to take down Eobard. The whole comic is kinda an AU already honestly.

Anyways, I really liked Beth a lot and I think she has a lot of potential to be really interesting and compelling addition to the Flash mythos. She doesn't have to be Eo's love interest or anything, honestly I would love to see her maybe as a rival? Or still a pupil of his?? Idk, there's a lot of great ways to reincorporate her (tho I don't really trust modern writers to do her justice unfortunately)

116. Eo Carol

This is a pic inspired from a supervillain team up in the old comics where Eo interacted with Star Sapphire. Now, sadly the Star Sapphire in the story isn't Carol Ferris but instead a French woman who temporarily took up her mantle. Despite this, I became super fixated on the idea of Eo and Carol being partners cause like, it's just too perfect

Barry and Hal are a great friends, so why not also have some of their baddies also be buddy with each other? Make it come full circle aha

Okay, this is a random doodle of a really obscure character from Alan Scott's 1940 run. In it, Alan's friend Doiby had a sentient taxi car named Gertrude...Yeah. This isn't explained nor does Alan or Doiby act like this is bizarre or unusual in any way. I personally would enjoy seeing her make a comeback, but that's just me xD

This is a comic I did where a young GL recruit asks Kilowog to ragale him about the time in GL history when the GL humans first came along.

This comic is supposed to take a funny jab at how freaking many human lanterns there are, ESPECIALLY for the one sector/planet. I mean, I definitely get it, Green Lanterns are popular and people want to see all the cool variations of human GLs but man, at this rate they're gonna need to make a sub Lantern group called the Human Green Lantern Corps fr lol

Okay, so this is an idea I had that's inspired from the Flash New 52 comic where Iris temporarily became a speedster. Basically, it's that but "What if Iris got powers but when she's already married to Barry and they have the whole Flashfam?" I thought that'd be SO interesting to see and I really wanna explore that

It'd be about her finally getting to see the world from Barry's and the others' perspective. To finally get to feel the humming buzz as the Speed Force courses through her veins and reach out and blur and blend into everyone else, to feel as one with the other speedsters, to finally be able to run with her family awahhh

Fair warning though, it does have a kinda bittersweet ending so be prepared~

I really wanted to draw these two together cause honestly, it is SO mind boggling that these two haven't???? Had a heart-to-heart conversation yet??? ESPECIALLY after Flashpoint. I personally felt robbed and so I've taken it upon myself to give them their moment in the spotlight they deserve. Barry is full of regrets and Linda, after some time to soul search and to think it through, forgives Barry and they hug <3

Ok so, fun fact, did y'all know there's an official DC manga?? And that Eobard actually appears in it (not Barry for some strange reason) and fights Hal? Yeah, that's a thing that exists

I really liked his look here, even if it is very subtle, like the thick black outlines around his mask and so I wanted to try drawing him myself~

167. Mom J'onn

Remember that Batman Lego game I mentioned earlier? Yeah, this is based on that too lol

So in the game, everyone splits up to go to the Lantern planets bases, J'onn, Cyborg and Barry visiting the planet of Nok where the Indigo Lanterns are.

Barry is still in his super greedy phase and Cyborg has unfortunately been zapped by the yellow Lantern energy so now he's absolutely terrified of every little thing. J'onn was one of the few who wasn't hit by the Lantern beams so he's pretty much the only sane and capable one here. Mom J'onn refers to him basically having to keep Cyborg from freaking out and Barry from stealing everything under the sun while also simultaneously fight off the mind controlled Indigo Lanterns and restore their power battery. Send some prayers for J'onn cause he is Stressed lmao

168. Monophobia

Ahh yeah, ok this is based on Post New 52 Flash Rebirth where Barry definitely experiences this, especially the part at his birthday party where he is consumed with the fear of Eobard killing everyone he loves. This comic is Eobard exploiting that, isolating Barry and giving him a taste of his pain. It's basically Barry whump which I love and will definitely deliver more on in the future <3

In fact, ever since you mentioned having non-fpk family ocs before, I have been incredibly curious.

you have no idea how much that warms my heart, i'm really flattered that you see me as an inspiration. it's all i could really ask for

i do have some ocs, yeah. though i will say, the fpk au characters are definitely outliers when it comes to the amount of personality and lore they have. most of my ocs have very basic backstories, and many of them only do because i used to roleplay as them with my friends. a lot of my original designs that i'm attached to don't even have names, let alone personalities

since i'll be posting a lot of pictures, i'll throw this under a read more so it's not too long

i guess i'll start with my oldest oc, a lion king character who used to be my "fursona" (well not exactly, since i've never considered myself a furry. but persona wouldn't fit here) years ago, back in 2012 i believe. she went through a lot of changes over the years, but i've settled on a design that i really like

her name is swahibu (used to be swahili, i wasn't particularly creative, and i changed it recently since it was a bit awkward for her to be named after the entire language hahaha), and she has a little brother named kobe. their lore isn't anything too elaborate, they're essentially scar's grandchildren who used to be outlanders, but after the events of the second movie joined the pridelands. swahibu is bitter and a bit mean, but cares very much about her little brother. she got her scars in a fight with rogue lions which unfortunately ended with their mother's death, so they're now on their own. kobe is a smart cub, and brings a bit of joy and innocence to his big sister's life. as they both resemble their grandfather more than they'd like, they're often the object of nasty comments from those who lived under his tyrannical rule, though they do eventually earn the pridelanders' respect. not much else to say about them, except that i like to hc swahibu as gay. also, they have a very simple family tree that i made to show what their parents looked like, here (might not work if you don't have a deviantart account, but i'm not sure)

next up, there's a character i've considered my persona for quite some time, and one i used to put in many funny scenarios with my friends' ocs. he also changed the most out of all of them throughout the years, and recently i gave him a more furry like design as i hate drawing human faces haha

his name is rick, and he's a hybrid of all kinds of different animals. he's very laid back and lazy, though the fact that he's a hybrid gives him some animal-like traits and behaviors. he used to have a backstory but it's kind of stupid so i'm considering changing it, but he was basically created in a lab and then released after it was shut down. now he lives on his own with his cat, jon. he's one of those characters who are very flexible, so if i wanted to, i could modify him to fit into any scenario (for example, he used to have an assassins creed universe version which i used for roleplay years ago hahaha). not much else to say since i'm still in the (slow) process of changing him

i also have a lot of dragon characters, most of them were made for the purpose of a larger roleplay story with my friends. in general i take 'dragon' as a very vague term, since to me a dragon can look however you want and all those classification rules are kinda stupid. but you'll still a bit of, idk, i guess a paleoart like direction for their designs, since i like speculative biology and such. also, some of these originated as heavily based on some of my favorite characters at the time, you'll see that with the first one especially

his name is stark and he's probably the dragon that has the most lore behind him. i won't go into too many details regarding the backstory since it's long and very connected to the roleplay (you know, bit of a "you just had to be there" moment haha). but tl;dr he was taken in by a village and raised from hatchling, so he's very docile and a little bit confused. the village was attacked and he was able to survive, but one of his legs was scarred pretty badly, so he noticeably limps while walking. he's a semi-aquatic dragon, so he's an excellent swimmer. funnily enough, he went through a complete "reboot" a few years ago. in the original rp, he was a massive asshole, he'd hurt others for his own amusement and was generally very aggressive and not pleasant to be around. also, he had a prosthetic leg, though i scrapped that as it was far too advanced for the setting i envisioned him in. i much prefer this direction, i love my giant himbo gator-dragon. and i wonder how many of you can guess what character was the inspiration for his appearance (it used to be a lot more obvious in his first design iterations)

(and no, his wing isn't missing. this is just to show his back haha)

these next three don't really have too much backstory to them. well, except for the first one, his name is ithaar, and he was one of my first ocs ever. he went through a massive redesign quite recently, so he has close to nothing in common with his first iterations. the other two characters, eurus and ash, were made for rp purposes quite recently, and so don't have too much lore behind them

ith is a bit of a coward, he struggles with his self-confidence and believes everyone sees him as insignificant due to his small size and inability to fly. he can camouflage, though, so he's a lot cooler than he thinks. also, he moves by hopping around like a little kangaroo. his design is very dromaeosaur-like, with short stubby arms and yi-qi inspired wings

eurus is very pterosaur-like, though much larger than even the largest azhdarchids. he doesn't like the company of others, he's a bit of a loner (with trauma!). he may seem mean on the surface, but his past experiences make him unable to walk past someone who's in need. not quite a gentle giant, though. i think it's easy to see which pterosaurs in particular were the inspiration for his design, though his crests are very dilophosaurus-like

the last one is ash, and she's the newest addition to the roster. her rp session was very short and didn't really add much to her lore, but she's generally a huge jerk who likes annoying others and stealing from them. but of course, it wouldn't be an oc of mine if there wasn't some trauma involved, and she's no exception. she believes she doesn't fit anywhere, she felt rejected by her own kind for her unnatural abilities (she can move things with her mind), and so she copes with it by being a prick. her design was inspired by junker queen from overwatch haha

i also have four night fury characters i made during my httyd phase, and i redesigned them about a year ago to be a lot more "natural" in their appearance. they used to be quite a bit more colorful back in the day, and not in the good way haha

their names are vel'ri, sherok, atis and marivo. no real backstory, just vibes. the first one used to be my "main" character during the httyd phase. vel'ri and atis are female, sherok and marivo are male

and lastly, some non-dragon characters. these don't really have any backstory that i think is worth sharing, but i still love them very much

this one is named rugat and they're a genderless, shapeshifting magma alien thing. i don't know what they are. i just really like their design. they're aggressive, but they have a soft spot for small, weak creatures. god knows what their reasoning is, but i thought it was a cute personality trait

and these two are named lox and bagel. they're a ragarox, an original species i made years ago when it was cool and hip to have a closed species. they're eyeless cave dwelling lizard things. very chubby. these two guys are not related but they hang out all the time. 🏳️‍🌈 perhaps?

lox, on the left, is the more active and territorial of the two. but he's also super affectionate towards bagel

bagel, on the other hand, is the couch potato. very round and chubby, 10/10

as a fun fact i like to think their long tongues have very distinct smells. lox's smells like lime, while bagel's smells a bit like blueberry

and lastly, here are two unnamed characters. i like their designs but i haven't had the chance or inspiration to think of any details about them

the first one is an okapi-like thing. with a kitty face. the second is like a weird mix between a ceratopsid and some kind of mammal

oh and, here's some redesigns of old dragon characters that i forgot to mention earlier. they used to be very different (all but one were inspired by other characters, but you can't see it on their current designs), and i don't have any backstories for them yet. their names are also going to be changed, so consider them nameless for now

i want to talk about stupid stuff in my furry world even though i don't really think anyone's listening :)

this is really long so i'm sorry if you open it and realize you don't care lol...

EVOLUTION.

basically, evolution works the exact same way in my furry universe(s) as it does in real life. animal species come and go and most extinction events happened pretty much at the exact moments.

i haven't thought too much about how/when their bodies formed - and i don't care that much because it's really, really not that important to anything - but i imagine it's around the same time animals started walking on land but rapidly evolving a bipedal (and modern humanoid) body instead.

HYBRIDIZATION.

i don't really like the term "hybridization" / "hybrid" for human analogous species, because of a lot of real world implications that could mean, but i'm a little at a loss for what else i should call them.

either way, the way (furry) species works is probably more simple in reality than it is in my head but essentially the viability of offspring depends on the parents family (classification), genus, and species. the further away it is from the species, the harder it is to reproduce BUT if they're in the same family, they can still produce offspring together.

for example: a tiger can breed with another tiger and will have a high success rate of offspring. or the tiger can move on to a lion, and will have a harder time at producing but will still produce offspring with some difficulty. OR the tiger can breed with a house cat and both can struggle at producing offspring - but it's not impossible. however, trying to have babies with a moose or a bear is genetically impossible and will never produce offspring.

subspecies and breeds do technically exist, but in-universe they do not have "names" for these really. and if they did, they wouldn't have any reason to talk about it.

FERAL ANIMALS.

i haven't actually settled on whether or not i want feral animals in my world, because i like the idea of my OCs having pets but the thought of "how" those animals exist and everything doesn't make sense to me.

my solution was initially going to be pet-sized insects, but unfortunately i also have anthro insects as well. so right now, none of my furries have pets or animals in their world.

CARNIVORE FOOD.

this one's particularly tricky for me, just kind of because i hadn't thought too much about it. so because of that, i'm going to say this as more of a hypothetical rather than a definitive.

i think it's primarily down to culture in what carnivores eat; in some places, it might be considered taboo to eat actual meat, but in other places it might be considered bad to eat meat substitutes.

in my head, my main story is in a culture where it's mixed - meat and meat substitutes are both okay to eat, and it just depends on the individual.

i imagine meat farms as relatively humane, though i can't currently think of a way to describe the process of humane meat farming (especially in a way that doesn't make me sound insane).

OTHER SOURCES OF FOOD.

i know some people get weirded out by this, but things like dairy (milk, eggs, cream), honey, and even non-food things like wool and the like are still definitely around and are actively farmed.

BIGOTRY.

there is no species/breed (whatever) related bigotry within my world whatsoever. primarily because i'm a little white boy from the US, so i don't think it's my place to really talk about and try to formulate a story around.

i bring this point up primarily because i think people kind of... expect furry stories that are in-depth to have this sort of thing - but i personally think it's best for me to avoid trying to do.

other forms of bigotry, specifically the ones i face/faced (homophobia, transphobia, etc.), DO exist in my world but it's small scale and also not particularly important to my stories outside of backstories, character development, and situational interactions.

ANATOMY.

all of my furry anatomy might change in the future but everything i say here applies to the way i draw them currently.

all furries have, generally, normal human proportions. there are some difference between groups of species, but majority are within the same proportions.

most furries have digitigrade legs (i know unguligrade is different, but for the sake of simplicity i'm going to call it digitigrade), though there are a few (though rare) exceptions that do not.

right now, birds have feather attachments to all their fingers except the thumb, and this goes down their entire arm (similar to a bunch of different dinosaurs). this reduces their range of motion on their wrists in-universe, but not so much that it's nearly impossible for them to do most normal activities.

i was thinking of changing them to have no wings, as i haven't been able to figure out how clothing works or things like that - but i'm bird autistic and really like drawing wings, so...stumped there! (i'm against back wings in most of my furry universes and dislike wings as hands.)

antlers and horns are considered ornamental and may be removed (typically a doctor or some sort of specialist would do this) if the person sees fit. velvet-shed antlers are still a "gorey" mess, and people who are going through that may request to stay home (though this is also dependent on the individual as well as the conditions around the individual - like if they work or something).

as mentioned previously, "hybrids" (actual name pending) do exist! their anatomy may be different than what they describe themselves as. example: my character dallas is a zebu cow mixed with african water buffalo (though this is not from his direct parents), but he still prefers to call himself a cow rather than a buffalo.

FASHION.

clothes are typically the same as they are for human, though some may be modified to accommodate for different species. it is also considerably less taboo to go nude, but most still prefer to wear clothes.

despite what a lot of people think, tailors still aren't as terribly common in this world - and, honestly, i think a lot of furries would know a lot about taking care of modifying/fixing themselves as well (though full making clothes, i don't know).

shoes are seen as more fashion than function, but steel-toed boots and such are definitely still around. horse shoes also fit into this category.

an extremely common type of fashion, just like our world, is body modification. ear cropping, tail docking, declawing, feather plucking, and so on are pretty common. (i don't think i need to say this - but i'm not an advocate for those things, please don't do these to animals unless absolutely necessary like in sheep and stuff.) there's even more than what i just listed.

tattoos are also common, though the word "tatoo" in this case has three different meanings - branding (typically freeze branding), general scarification, or needle tattooing.

freeze branding and scarification are basically the same thing as they are in real life and are the more painful of the processes, while needle tattooing is more tedious.

needle tattooing is shaving down the fur to get to the skin (full bald, not even little hairs are allowed in the area), and then tattooed as one would in our world but with special inks and dyes that show in the fur pattern and not just on the skin. while this sounds like the easiest process, it is highly repetitive and prone to failure if not up-kept and consistently tattooed for once a week for a month.

fur clipping (like real world camels and horses and dogs, not like humans) is also a popular fashion choice.

fur dyes are another popular choice, but are not recommended for full body use. this does not really stop people.

BODY LANGUAGE.

there is a lot of body language that i COULD cover, but most of it boils down to real world body language in animals just translated on humans.

but there's a lot of different readable tail languages as well - most people are generally aware of what their tail is doing during conversations or on public transport, things like that.

Wof: A Fierce Legacy: Au where Fierceteeth becomes queen after proving herself to Glory against other candidates. After some time, she has three dragonets: Two sons named Shadowglider and Sharpmind, and one daughter named Direclaws, who hatched under two blood moons. Now Fierceteeth has to grapple with the fact her daughter will one day challenge her for the throne... and Direclaws has to grapple with seeing that future.

Wof Legends: Alternate Past: Legitimately was made to give poor Foeslayer a better IceWing husband, then I noticed how much would change, so it's gonna be interesting alright xD It's also gonna be huge. Lots of stuff to cover.

Wof: A Moon Taken By Rain: A curious idea I had for an au where Secretkeeper wasn't there on time, thus Moonwatcher is taken and raised by a RainWing named Macaw. Also RainWings get a big rework, because I think it would be more interesting if they weren't uh... well what they are in book three lol. Don't get me wrong, I love my hippie dragons, but I think it would be better if did have a queen earlier on who whipped them into shape.

Wof: RainWing Succession: The story here is that Queen Grandeur of the RainWings has six daughters, and all of them want the throne for various reasons. The sisters are:

Princess Abundance, Princess Blissful, Princess Cassytha, Princess Divine, Princess Felicity, and Princess Luxurious.

Only one of these dragons is worthy of the throne, and she will have to work for it... and find out why one of her sisters has mysteriously disappeared.

This is gonna be a precursor to the Moon Taken By Rain story!

Tmnt: Beast's Embrace: Something I've been playing with for years lol. It is an Au that goes more in depth into what all mutagen can do, where it came from, and how it effects mutants, on more than one plane of existence. It's a bit of a mix of ninja turtles and Bloodborne, hence why it's called Beast's Embrace.

The brothers are quite different from their more canon selves too, because I feel like it be more interesting and make it stand out.

Mike is the oldest at 19, and the leader of the team, therapist, and the main muscle. He is still goofy and fun loving, but also much more serious and level headed, and quite noble. He is based on the Big Headed Turtle.

Raph is the second oldest at 19, though a couple months behind Mike, and he is second in command, helping plan out strategies, along with being a mechanic, often helping Don. He is more stoic, with a calm energy, though is also very brutal when out fighting. He is based on the Northern River Terrapin.

Don is third eldest at 16, and is the doc and brains when it comes to anything mutagen related, robots or chemistry. He is the most severely mutated due to using mutagen he carefully made to make himself "better", and more himself. Very eccentric, his default expression is a smile, and it takes a lot to make him change expression. He makes a lot of friends. He is based on the Roti Island Snake Neck Turtle.

And finally, Leo is the youngest, at 16, being a couple months younger than Don. He is the fastest and most stealthy, able to sneak in just about anywhere. He is very morbid and sadistic, but grows to be noble and just, as he looks up to Mike. He is based on the Bog Turtle.

(Will range from 3 USD to 25-30, it depends. We’re basically going to make a whole price range, less complex adopts on base or not in chibi forms for 3-5 USD at least and the highest I’d ever think we’d go is 30-40 for special events. You have an option to pay for those for much less OR wait for a sale where you could get more content for that price, it’s all gonna depend how we feel. 30-40 would be for complicated hand drawn refs and an added headshot etc. Or, one for 20-25 on base with added on art.

It’s all gonna depend on how well our sales are received. So don’t take any of those higher prices as solidified. All we know for sure right now is that there’ll typically be a lot of 3-5 USD ones along with 10-12 USD. They usually will be that cheap. Our goal is to provide lower prices and discounts out of our own kindness, and because we are in a place where we are financially comfortable and well taken care of, and we just want to give back for that privilege out of our own want, while still making a couple dollars on the side for our system so they can buy things for themselves. And also to get Fawn things as gifts for her hard work in school, and fuel her special interests of course. She has had jobs in physical establishments but they have taken such a toll on her physical health (asthma attacks and more) AND mental health, and she deserves to rest and be able to do art at home or have her alters do it. We’ll actually be living some time in Colombia each year where she’ll be hella pampered like she deserves. So yes, we just want to do a nice thing and also making these specific adopts accessible (you’ll see some of the ideas in a minute :) ) because of how much fandoms or any kinds of special interests/hyperfixations can mean to people, and we wanna give a discount on that.

i have like. very different ideas about a ton of things and admittedly none are very developed (aside from one but like. we'll get to it). but i've got three-ish dependingonwhatyoucountasxenofiction ideas that i've got some ideas for

(ordered least developed to most developed)

i've been playing around with my pharaoh ant palace drama idea and i love the idea of it being a revenge story of some beleagured young queen who gets fucked over by the other stronger colonies. it uses the help of insects outside their colony to take down the other queens while also strengthening their own colony. this one is the least developed, it's just an idea and there's no real groundwork i've made in actually pursuing it beyond research on the species.

apocalypse meow follows a cat clowder in yarmouth, nova scotia, trying to survive. the catch? it's set in a post apocalyptic future where creatures have mutated horribly and the clowder is forced to advance to survive. the climate is unforgiving and their way of life even more so. they operate under a strict hierarchy with a focus on reproduction and order:

(hierarchy in order of most to least power) queen (the biggest and oldest cat who can reproduce, makes the final decisions) queen's court (which consists of "ladies-in-waiting" (job rank name is gonna change) and the highest ranking tomcats (big jowled boys who are expected to protect the queen and the court) + the queen's offspring the court's offspring the remaining members of the clowder who tend to do the more dangerous work such as hunting near the outskirts of the territory and are the first to be sent out in fights

the story's protagonist centers on the lowest rank of the court's offspring who finds herself forced into the politics of the tomcats trying to ensure their own kitten's success as queen- no matter who's life they have to take to ensure it. i've got some character ideas and plotlines but it's very much a rough draft.

now my final idea is one i've got lots of ideas and set characters....but it also may not fall into what people are looking for in xenofiction. I've talked about them here and here

my furry oc's copycat and spellbrewer are part of an advanced future where people have superpowers (the power system is fairly developed but also needs some fine tuning). In this world, superhero and supervillain are job occupations, you can become a celebrity by enlisting with a corporation and being able to fight evil (think the boys, worm, the celebrity aspects of the umbrella academy tv adaptation, etc.). Supervillain is more like a wrestling heel, in which you can be the big bad to perform for people to root against....or you can be a legitimate threat. Higher risk = higher rewards after all.

The story is an ensemble cast but would follow mainly Evangeline/Eva (villain name "Spellbrewer") with the ability to create a wide variety of potions using ingredients and her henchmen, Ridley (villain name "Copycat") who, if she can stay touching you for thirty seconds, has the ability to copy one's superpower for a minute. The two are aspiring supervillains who wish to become real threats (well, Eva does; Ridley is still under the watchful eye of the heroes after killing one of them as a teen by accident).

This one admittedly just has animal protagonists because I'm a furry and I think furry designs are cool. It doesn't play a huge role in the actual story and is purely aesthetic, so I kind of hesitate to include it.......but i'm gonna nonetheless cause it's very fun and i've gotten some interest in it and i love them so LOOK AT MY HEAD BLORBOS.

writing wise, i write third person, past tense and i'm mostly looking for m/m and m/f pairings. i love tropes and angst and drama. romance is a must but i also love adventure and building a fantastic story! i don't write characters that are labeled 'top/bottom' or anything like that, i much prefer to create charas for the story and explore all kinds of connections! i use realistic FCs or realistic art FCs in specific settings

You know what? As someone who experienced this, here is what is probably stopping you from being a full on furry right now; Making Things Too Complicated.

Like, seriously. I didn't have a fursona until recently because I always way overcomplicated the creation process. It wasn't until I started self shipping with Mordecai and made an S/I for him that I realized "oh, cat fursonas are actually pretty cool." I literally love the fursona I have now and wouldn't trade him for the world (though multiple fursonas are, of course, valid!)

Like, yes, your fursona really can just be whatever animal you like, anthropomorphic style. Yes, they are just as cool as more complex furry species. Also, and if I am being frank here, this is the easiest way to avoid the stress of the fact "closed species" are a thing. No one can get on you for making an anthro based on a regular animal, people have been doing that for centuries and no one "owns" them. (Not to mention it will make one's fursona more flexible as far as setting and universe goes).

Also yes, while you absolutely can make your fursona super colorful or with lots of patterns (more power to you!), I also assure you that having a fursona that is "just a black cat" or the like is also completely valid! You're not being "basic", if you feel that represents you or the idea you're going for, go for it! (But like, seriously, just read Lackadaisy if you want to see how cool "ordinary" anthros can be, or Hell, just look at some of the Animal Crossing designs). Basing the design of your fursona off of the media you love because you'd like to see them in that universe is also super valid! Basing it off how you actually look, the animal you connect with the most or find cool, or even just a human OC or S/I in animal form is too!

The same goes for backstory. It doesn't have to be fancy, they can just be you in animal form. Or have your dream job, or whatever you find interesting. No need for a lengthy backstory and you can develop it overtime if you so choose!

Aka, if you want to join in on the furry action but are struggling to make a fursona, don't sweat it. People will love your fursona, even if you might see it as "cringe" or "basic". Start simple and work from there.

Hey there! Im just gonna jump into it and lay it all out so I don’t get a message from someone who didn’t bother to read the ad (that happens a lot and I’m sure I’m not the only one with that struggle lmao)

Also, apologies in advance, it’s kind of all over the place and a bit repetitive, so please bear with me here.

I’m 22F and seeking other female or non-binary partners who enjoy writing male mains. I prefer playing a female main in MxF settings. I also only play in (preferably modern) fantasy settings with fantasy OCs, no furries, I don’t play as furries, my OCs are all humanoid, the worst being some form of animal ears or tails, or pointed ears, horns, different hair and eye color, etc- but the rest of their forms are human looking. I have to specify this because I’ve had people message me and ask me to make my OCs human and non-magical which I won’t do. Respect my characters, and I’ll respect yours! I just wanna have fun with magical shenanigans. I love a magical story with twists, turns, angst and romance, so if you’re vibing, I would love to hear from you! I would love to gush over our characters too! I want someone to love my characters too like I will love theirs! I want mutual excitement so we can both fawn and fangirl over our OCs and stuff!

I notice lately all the ads are fandom based- I hardly see anyone write originals, which is totally cool! No hate on fandom content at all, I just hope to find someone else who enjoys original pairs, characters and settings and what not. I hope to find someone chill I can vibe with.

To expand on my “preferably modern” comment in the above statement, I have a bit of a multi-dimensional thing going on- all dimensions, timelines, alternate realities exist within a larger scale dimensional plane. Technically, anything is possible, which is great for world crossovers so nobody has to change their own worlds or characters or anything like that. However, I am not good at anything requiring historical accuracy and I find most medieval setting quite dull. I like the aspect of modern earth and having fantasy beings and magic thrown into it. However, I also love having original worlds completely different from earth with their own rules, cultures, and magic and what not. So I’m looking for something flexible I suppose, but I would definitely enjoy something like fantasy characters living on modern earth away from their respective worlds- but eventually we take a journey into our characters unique worlds and settings! I hope that makes sense, I kinda suck at explaining things.

I have a big plot idea I’ve been dying to do, I really want this plot, but and however, if you do not enjoy the concept, I’m more than willing to work with you and make something new!

I just want something I can work with, something with detail, emotion, expressive actions and dynamics and good dialogue. Which is usually when I go to ooc to try and plot something out to spice it up haha.

Hey there! Im just gonna jump into it and lay it all out so I don’t get a message from someone who didn’t bother to read the ad (that happens a lot and I’m sure I’m not the only one with that struggle lmao)

Also, apologies in advance, it’s kind of all over the place and a bit repetitive, so please bear with me here.

I’m 22F and seeking other female or non-binary partners who enjoy writing male mains. I prefer playing a female main in MxF settings. I also only play in (preferably modern) fantasy settings with fantasy OCs, no furries, I don’t play as furries, my OCs are all humanoid, the worst being some form of animal ears or tails, or pointed ears, horns, different hair and eye color, etc- but the rest of their forms are human looking. I have to specify this because I’ve had people message me and ask me to make my OCs human and non-magical which I won’t do. Respect my characters, and I’ll respect yours! I just wanna have fun with magical shenanigans. I love a magical story with twists, turns, angst and romance, so if you’re vibing, I would love to hear from you! I would love to gush over our characters too! I want someone to love my characters too like I will love theirs! I want mutual excitement so we can both fawn and fangirl over our OCs and stuff!

I notice lately all the ads are fandom based- I hardly see anyone write originals, which is totally cool! No hate on fandom content at all, I just hope to find someone else who enjoys original pairs, characters and settings and what not. I hope to find someone chill I can vibe with.

To expand on my “preferably modern” comment in the above statement, I have a bit of a multi-dimensional thing going on- all dimensions, timelines, alternate realities exist within a larger scale dimensional plane. Technically, anything is possible, which is great for world crossovers so nobody has to change their own worlds or characters or anything like that. However, I am not good at anything requiring historical accuracy and I find most medieval setting quite dull. I like the aspect of modern earth and having fantasy beings and magic thrown into it. However, I also love having original worlds completely different from earth with their own rules, cultures, and magic and what not. So I’m looking for something flexible I suppose, but I would definitely enjoy something like fantasy characters living on modern earth away from their respective worlds- but eventually we take a journey into our characters unique worlds and settings! I hope that makes sense, I kinda suck at explaining things.

I have a big plot idea I’ve been dying to do, I really want this plot, but and however, if you do not enjoy the concept, I’m more than willing to work with you and make something new!

I have a list of ‘rules’ down below- really it just restates what I wrote, but people have a tendency to either not read the ad, or skim through it and miss half the info anyway, so I’m just putting this down here to kind of drive the point home I suppose. If you’ve read the ad, I would love for you to send me a cat fact or something about cats in general, or just a lovely statement on how much you love cats! If you do, I will be so grateful. thank you!!!! hmmm... right now i'm thinking about my biomutant OCs still, so i'm gonna talk about one of my vague biomutant-inspired concepts!! not unhinged fantasy wip right now unfortunately, but another one kinda inspired by the general world.

so there's this vague idea i've had for a biomutant-inspired story called the 29th cycle. have i done much with it? nope! i've mainly just thought about it a bunch and gone "oh that's fun." it's a good example of a wip that's just a bunch of vibes and me going "yeah that'd be cool" and doing it.

HMMMM... okay so i talked the other night a bit about my oc sol whitetail. and sol is a minor antagonist in the 29th cycle. i will talk a bit about them.

so this is sol <3 my baby

the basic concept for sol is that they're a mercenary who hunts bandits (or anyone they deem a bandit) for sport. they're very motivated by rage and a desire for vengeance, and their character arc is kind of an examination of revenge narratives, trying to look at it from a more nuanced perspective than just "revenge bad" or "revenge good actually." over the course of the story, sol becomes more of an ally to the protagonists as their character arc progresses.

what does sol want revenge for? well. a lot. but the biggest thing is that sol lost their family, specifically their husband crane. crane was like the last thing in their life keeping them stable, and after his death, they went fucking feral. they'd been very angry and full of violence for many years, but it was crane's death that made them finally snap.

generally, sol travels around the valley that the story takes place in, burning bandit camps to the ground and enacting their own version of justice everywhere they go.

anyway uhhh last fun thing about sol! i still have to draw him. but they have a dragon companion, a big scary monster that they tamed and ride around while hunting bandits down. his name is mars and he has like eight eyes and three sets of wings, and he breathes bright purple fire.

sol is my poor little meow meow and i love them and thinking about their character arc makes me emotional.

I’ll only be doing concepts for now (since life’s been keeping me extremely busy, and I’m not great at drawing furries), but I’ll still label the ones I will be doing art for soon. (College is kicking my ass, and these concepts have taken long enough.) The others will just remain concepts unless I have any specific drive to make their furry versions.

Wynn - He most definitely has dog energy, though specifically what kind was a little bit difficult to get down. I wanted to choose a breed that's perceived as loyal and gentle despite its size, but also can be perceived as threatening from appearance alone. (Mainly adding that last detail because of what Wynn did before he forfeited his first life.)

Hence, I thought that I'd go with a Doberman for him. Looks scary if you don’t know him, but is actually very loving to people he trusts most. Admittedly, due to his undead nature (being a revenant and all), I jokingly thought of him as one of those skeleton animas from Minecraft, though that wouldn't be entirely accurate to his original design. (He still has human-like features from the shoulders up, despite the hole rotted in his cheek.)

Cen - Frankly, he was a little tougher to nail down. I felt like he had cat-like energy, but at the same time, it didn't seem to fit for him. Since he's a fae/fairy, I wanted to keep the trend of him not being able to use his wings unless absolutely necessary. (So he's less of a cat and more like a bird, but even then, it's hard to pin what kind he'd be.)

After a lot of research, I finally decided on making him a raven, due to being Wynn's source of information in the modern world, not to mention his sharp wit and him being rather blunt at times.

Spruce - I've gotta thank past research (and an RP) for this idea, because I thought of making him a rabbit. Due to their unique behaviors (especially concerning their habit of humming, squeaking, and growling instead of speaking), I thought that having them as a rabbit would fit best. I wasn’t sure what kind of rabbit I’d make him, but I grew attached to him being a Dutch rabbit.

Anita - I wanted to slide her in here because she was the first created out of these OCs. She was tricky to do, since I wanted to lean into her survivalist nature and stealth, but I didn’t just want to make her a cat.

It took a while, but I eventually decided on her being a collared lizard. Not only are they mainly carnivores (hunter aspects), but they can also run pretty fast. (Top speeds of 16mph/26kph!) Plus, I thought it’d be cute to have a cold-blooded furry that loves soft fabrics and like items.

Fionn - Wolf. No doubt. (I mean, with his kinship/closeness to his companion, I thought of it as one Snow Hound protecting another.) However, in comparison to his companion, I think that Fionn would look a little less threatening, having a bit of a fluffier silver coat with patches of white to simulate his original form's vitiligo. No doubt that his tail would wag like crazy when he gets excited, especially when meeting people like Wynn and Cen.

Aspen - Due to being Fionn's brother, I'm making Aspen some form of wolf as well, though he would appear more tamed in comparison. Not to say that Fionn is wild, but due to being the crown prince, Aspen has to make himself look presentable, which means toning down aspects of himself. His coat would look a bit sleeker, but still have the same silver color with patches of white scattered throughout.

Selene - For Selene, I actually wanted to make her some form of cat, since I though that having her as a cat fit best compared to the other characters I originally thought of as cats. (Also for the fact that despite having dog-like energy in her openness towards others, she tends to do things on her own.)

Hydrangea - Honestly, it was about as tricky to nail down what Hydrangea would be like as it was to nail Cen's down, if not trickier. Due to original Hydrangea being a homunculus, as well as being part-flower due to contamination and almost completely mute, I wanted to come up with something that would simultaneously make it fit in with the other furries in this post and make it stand out. In the end, I decided to make Hydrangea a mouse in order to fit in with the laboratory theme, since “lab mouse/rat”. However, instead of normal fur, each strand is a small flower petal, like its usual form’s hair. It also fits in with its mute nature.

Arden - Although he and Anita are rather similar, I wanted to make them different kinds of furries due to their different personalities and skills. With him being the tinkerer that he is and with his fluffy, cloud-like hair, I kind of thought of him as some kind of squirrel or chipmunk. I would’ve thought of a beaver, but that may be a bit much for him.

This is my own story, a Grecoroman-themed fantasy with a bit of the Ars Goetia thrown in. The overall idea is a romance in the middle of a war between humans and demons. Hyacinth is the Hero with conveniently light-related powers. The love interest is Azazel, the Demon Lord. It’s styled after the general anime Yuusha story with a hero and the Demon Lord final boss, but with my own twist and a few more Western fantasy elements than you’d normally find in a Yuusha story. Most of my posts have been on Patreon, but will likely end up here soon.
