(uhm, ancient queen zelda and ganondorf backstory doodles- largely irrelevant to the totk rewrite since it would be purely implied in the environment and in a few lines of diary but it keeps spinning in my head so i had to make some doodles)

(want to make some doodles of it all falling apart too but i need to post these now- the summary is really just that the ancient queen and ganondorf were close friends (to lovers) in their youth until she has to marry a hyrulian knight, after which they barely see each other anymore and their relationship slowly turns sour as time passes (due to various reasons) and after her discovering the ruins the sonau protected speaking of an ancient evil she grows afraid of him and begins to enact a scheme to seal him away-)

(the doodle in the snow there is about the extra idea that ganondorfs first daughter is with her but since shes married to the knight at that point already it would be a scandal- so it is secretly brought to him to raise instead- its a .. kinda classical royal drama but i got attached to the idea bc it adds even more weight to their conflict and its escalation later... also a bit more .. human? like people and their relationships can be complicated and messy, it can make things more interesting .. but this is still all just a concept, havent decided to use it yet)

So in this verse, Tsunade never ends up teaching Sakura- as that role is fulfilled by Chiyo. (But she DOES return to Konoha eventually).

And Chiyo's first rule (for everything lol) is: Nothing is Free.

Chiyo always demanded something in return for healing, and unlike Tsunade, she considered medical jutsu a part of her arsenal. If it could kill, then it was always an option.

So Sakura learned from that mindset, trading her services and using her rare skillet as a powerful negotiating tactic, especially during Tea Country's civil war. Her healing effectively kept her, Enji, and Saeko in relative safety and provided her a card to play when she needed.

And, while Sakura is nowhere near as jaded as Chiyo is, and often enough of a bleeding heart to help people for damn near free, (a place to stay, food for the night, a new holster for her kunai), she is also VERY pragmatic about her skillset. The civil war taught her that sometimes, letting someone die is better. This puts her at odds with Tsunade, who has a very different mindset (and was, historically, bitter enemies with Chiyo).

Another issue that arises with Tsunade, is that the Godaime is a doctor- while Chiyo is more of a healer. Their understanding of the human body comes from a different place.

Tsunade can name every bone and muscle and perform open-heart surgeries. Sakura can heal bone and stitch back together muscles and flesh on a very basic level, but she's never going to be able to open up a human body and revolutionize medical history like she does in canon. (In canon, Sakura creates a Jutsu that allows her to do a four-man surgery alone; she can't do that here.)

However, she can do some stuff that Tsunade claims is impossible—like reconstructing/altering someone's chakra network, unblocking tenketsu, sometimes turning off someone's dojutsu from a distance, and lite-healing remotely (Tsunade is very upset about this one specifically). A lot of it comes from her mastery of Genjutsu.

Genjutsu, as I reworked in my comic, requires a complete understanding of someone's chakra network to control ALL their senses. Sakura's understanding and control are so prodigious that she can almost autonomously control people's bodily functions (a skillset that is GREATLY aided by training with Chiyo's puppet mastery).

She uses Genjutsu as a tool to understand the body and employs it as both support (helping an ally maintain a sense of gravity as they're pulled underground or flung in the air, etc) and offense.

Something about Vegapunk using the dna and blood of a caged and experimented on child to create more caged child experiments and the cycles we perpetuate.

Because what does it mean that all that King has left as proof, that the lunarians were real, that they existed as a tribe, as a people, are seven manufactured children he doesn’t even know about, enslaved as weapons to the government that wiped out the culture they’ll never get to be a part of, and Alber himself another enslaved child lost to something he’ll never fully know.

And what of the warlords? Already young once and hurt by their government, young again and slaves to it. Boa looking at a version of her practically pulled out of time stuck in her worst nightmare or Jimbei looking at a version of himself living out a past he escaped by the skin of his teeth but so many he loved didn’t, even Doffy once again at the mercy of the people that already abandoned him, has Kuma not suffered enough? Given enough, is this child version of him doomed to repeat the same path he already could not escape from . Property of the world government, beholden to the celestial dragons, this version of me that cannot go free?

It’s interesting that Vegapunk joined the government so that he could do the most good, but look at the long line of people right infront of him that he’s hurt with his own hands.

technically i just avoid this by not drawing owl whenever i doodle them being very gay but. even when all 3 hang out i think 70% of the time is taken up by mdk and owl chatting with eachother so it balances out naturally. probably

Yan Wushi squinting at the little train of disciples trailing after his husband, the oldest of which is just scraping 9 years old. Shiwu was malnourished for so long he's much smaller than the other two, so he's constantly being picked up and carried around by either his oldest martial brother or their shizun. It drives Yan Wushi crazy.

All kinds of business keep him and his husband apart for stretches of time as it is, now there's always a little hand reaching for Shen Qiao's while he's walking. Or a toddler on his hip sniffling into his robes, or shyly asking to show his shizun something he's learned. Constantly.

Finally, on a sunny afternoon Yan Wushi thinks he's found his husband alone meditating. A perfect time to bother him and maybe sway him into his lap for the remainder of the day...

Yan Wushi rounds the tree Shen Qiao is settled beside and falters. Curled in his arms are two toddlers, Shiwu's nose pressed in the folds of Shen Qiao's collar while Yuwen Song is tucked comfortably into his chest. Hair feathered out along Shen Qiao's stomach, Duan Ying is sound asleep despite Shiwu's boots resting on his chest. Heaped in a pile like kittens on their mother, Yan Wushi can only shake his head and snort.

No matter his displeasure, he finds himself sitting beside his husband in the grass. Shen Qiao doesn't even open his eyes as he shifts to lay his head in Yan Wushi's lap. A faint smile tugs at lips as his disciples' snores melt into the hum of summer wind and birdsong.

"You coddle them too much." Yan Wushi grumbles, but the venom is lost in the next pass of his fingers through Shen Qiao's hair.
