i know we've all made 8 million posts about this but like. they really took a character that sacrificed his own happiness multiple times, was suicidal for years, placed everyone's needs before his own and canonically wanted to retire, settle down and just live a normal little life but believed he could never have it......and they killed him in the end. a character that people saw so much of themselves in. a character that people loved so deeply for 15 years.....and they killed him and proved him right. what the actual fuck.

oh also speaking of music I was listening to Evanescence the other night and it really struck me how weird that era of goth-pop-alt music was? Like that post-9/11 period when goth and emo and pop punk and alternative were SUPER in and relatively mainstream but because the music world was really hostile and walking on eggshells because nobody wanted to get Dixie Chicksed, the stuff that was mainstream and accessible tended to be uhhhhh kind of about nothing? like SO MUCH alt music I remember getting a lot of play in the 2000s is just about mid-tier breakups. even the numetal and pop punk stuff which is like. genres made to be angry at The System in.
and it's not that those songs were BAD, obviously. like musically they're really thought through and a lot of those artists really put in the work. but ok like Evanescence. the music is sweeping. Amy Lee is putting her WHOLE PUSSY into selling the heartbreak and angst of the songs. which, of their big hits, are almost all in their entirety, 'we used to have a kind of codependent relationship and now we've broken up.'
I'm not sure this theory holds up cause like. Popular alternative music was certainly not fully apolitical. System of a Down peaked at that time. American Idiot, obviously. And bands like Disturbed and Slipknot certainly managed to find some time to talk about political repression and social alienation in between writing 1200000 songs about beating your girlfriend up and how it's Not Fair She Won't Date Me Even Though I'm Right Here, respectively.
(and to be clear. this is all music that I like. although Corey Taylor occasionally gets too whiny for me tbh)
and I legit don't know to what degree this was actually a thing, to what degree it's basically always the case that the most popular Angsty Alt Music For Teens has more to do with breakups than political unrest, and to what degree I personally was just listening to the wrong music in 2005.
(but I'm not really so much thinking of the music I liked at the time but the music that was like, what you reached for when you were naming Alternative Music - your Evanescence, HIM, Slipknot, MCR, FOB, Panic!, Green Day, Blink 182, Disturbed, Linkin Park, all the stuff a kid in eyeliner listened to. some of which I did not, I never got the hang of HIM and I think I maybe missed a trick not getting into Linkin Park bc I understand they made some good stuff but I hated Numb so much at the time, I couldn't cope with them. even though look on lyrics alone it's not a bad song. it works. whatever.)

"I don't think Glowtail is worth $12"
Alright firstly, we all know the majority of flight rising doesn't buy gems frequently. Maybe like once or twice, but not frequently. So it's not like people are going to be shoveling out $12 to buy it frequently. Stop acting like this is the staff trying to scam people.
And don't come at me with the "oh but no one is saying that they're trying to scam us". It is so heavily implied in some of the replies/tumblr posts. I've even seen numerous ones suggesting that's exactly what they're doing. That the staff are trying use us all bored in quarantine to make some extra cash. Did it even cross your mind that maybe the staff thought that releasing some extra genes and cosmetics might help keep us busy and happy? You guys know not every business is out to screw you right? Don't get me wrong, I hate money hungry businesses like the next guy, but at least have some faith in the staff. Honestly fr doesn't scream to me that its being run by money hungry monsters. They just seem like a normal business running their game.
One side note, it's also been a while since we've had a gem gene for the modern breeds. So that is probably factored in as well. Not every gene can be a treasure, coli or Baldwin gene.
"It doesn't look like a gem gene."
Bruh, it's obviously meant to go in a set with wasp and bee. You can't make two out of three genes for a set gem genes. Its all go or no go. It's also very shiny, do you know what else tends to be shiny? Gem genes. Glowtail is shiny and pretty to look at. Before, I could have seen this argument, but now with the art fixes if anything I think it fits in perfectly with the other gem genes.
"Gems is premium currency that you pay irl money for."
Do you know how easy it is to get gems on flight rising without paying actual money? Easier than what many would think. One of the things I enjoy about flight rising is that the premium currency isn't locked to one account and you're not forced to buy it with real cash. You can exchange treasure with other players for gems, sell in game items for gems, and even sell your own art for gems. This all in the end makes it super easy to make gems.
Let's do some very basic math.
Glowtail sells for 1200. Looking in the item sales at the moment of me writing this shows that gems are going for 1g to 1000t.
1200 x 1000 = 1200000t. Seems like a lot right? Which technically it is, but it is very easy to make that much treasure.
Everyday by maxing out the fairgrounds you get 75kt. Sweet.
1200000/75000 = 16.
So it would take 16 days to make that amount of treasure to exchange for gems.
"Oh but op that is so long and-"
Hold on. Remember that this is JUST if you use the fairgrounds to make treasure. This doesn't even factor in dragons you exalt or items/dragons you sell. You could easily make that amount of treasure way quicker with you did a mix of all three.
My point is that it is very easy to make treasure on this site. this means it is also very easy to exchange that treasure for gems on this site. You just pop in on the item forums and see who is selling gems at that moment.
"Not everyone has time to do the fairgrounds everyday."
Alright listen, on average it would probably take you 30 minutes to max out depending on the game(s) you play). It takes me 15-20 minutes to max out using G&G. Pop on some netflix or youtube and just chill or 30 minutes in the fairgrounds.
Like honestly, I'm starting to think you all bitch and complain just for fun. The staff heard your complaints and fixed the gene, now you're all just being whiny.
Sincerely,
A Casual Fr player who is fed up with people bitching about glowtail being a gem gene.
Ps. Honestly if we're going to talk about genes that shouldn't be a gem gene have you fucking seen circuit? That shit screams treasure gene. I literally thought for the longest time it was a treasure gene until I needed one for a project.

Talk to me about The Magicians
*Rubs my gay little hands together*
So this post took about 1200000 years and I’m so sorry, I was trying to create a comprehensive trigger warning list, but I just haven’t had the time to rewatch both season to take them all down. I so, so appreciate you sending this when I was having a bad night.
Prepare for a stupid long post because I’ve been waiting for a good excuse to gush about this masterpiece of a show. Nothing will top my love of Carmilla but this is right there under it. This is basically all the stories you loved as a kid in a very adult context.
I’m going to try to make this as spoiler free as humanly possible while still detailing the great aspects of it, but there are a couple things I will spoil, because I feel like it’s important to know going in because of possible triggers.
Also I just found out that five episodes were directed by Carrie Fisher so no wonder why it’s so fucking good.
The Magicians is basically a mishmash of Harry Potter, Spiderwick, and Narnia. This is the first time ever that I’ve liked a film/tv adaptation more than the book. Also considering how TV is going lately, I’m deeply impressed by how they’ve handled 98% of things.
This show has done the literal opposite of whitewashing, which I find fucking incredible. In the book, about three (very) minor characters are specifically described as poc, like by specific nationality (the descriptions also seemed pretty racist/stereotypical) and the rest are either ambiguously described in terms of race, described as pale, or specifically stated as white, so I’m kind of going with the thought that that probably means they’re basically all white since Lev Grossman so specifically pointed out other character’s races. But hey that just leaves ample room for headcanoning which the casting director seems to have taken advantage of beautifully.
All the main characters are very rich and complex, and even minor characters with limited screen time are interesting.
(If I phrase something wrong and it comes out offensive, please know that it’s not intentional and please tell me so I fix it.)
Here’s a run down of the main characters:
Quentin Coldwater– (Played by Jason Ralph) Ambiguously described in the book but white in the show, bisexual, clinically depressed. Neither his bisexuality or depression is just ‘in theory’ in the show, it’s clearly shown, and he mentions being hospitalized in the past for his depression. Jason also does a great job displaying symptoms of anxiety.
Alice Quin– (Played by Olivia Taylor-Dudley) Ambiguously described in the book, white in the show. She’s presumably straight (there hasn’t really been any indication that she might not be) and incredibly brilliant. Think Hermione but shyer with an angry streak at being continuously underestimated, and with about a crap ton of baggage.
Penny Adiyodi– Described as looking like–and I quote here–an “overfed white suburban gangsta” in the book, played by Arjun Gupta, who is Indian, in the show, straight as far as I can tell. Very talented. Has an angry streak, but also has the capacity to be very sweet (reluctantly, and tries to hide it with sarcasm) and is very loyal.
Julia Wicker– (Played by Stella Maeve) Described as ‘pale and freckled’ in the book, but I’m not sure what her background is in the show. I tried looking up the actress but I didn’t find anything. She’s incredibly determined, brave, smart and resourceful and doesn’t take no for an answer when it comes to her goals and her friends. (She’s a total Slytherin.)
Dean Henry Fogg– (Played by Rick Worthy) Described as pale, blonde and blue-eyed in the book, but he’s black in the show, and later becomes disabled, but after recovery it doesn’t slow him down any. Dean of Brakebills University, he’s smart, blunt and commanding with a weird sense of humor.
Eliot Waugh– (Played by Hale Appleman) Ambiguously described in the book, white in the show. Flamingly gay and portrayed pretty damn beautifully by Hale, where it was prety bit fetish-y in the book. He’s an addict/alcoholic but isn’t demonized for it. His best friend gets exasperated/annoyed with him sometimes because he does tend to get high at the most inopportune times but that’s the worst of it. There’s a few jokes about it but nothing hurtful. He’s also clearly depressed, hence his not so great coping methods, and it’s implied that he has a homophobic/religious family.
Margo Hansen– Ambiguously described in the book (also her name in the book is Janet) played by Summer Bishil, who is part Indian. At first seems like your typical beautiful, bitchy female character, but is soon revealed to be deviously smart, loyal, aware of her own flaws and determined to fix her own messes. Oddly tender sometimes. Has a really wonderful (admittedly codependent, but it works. It’s implied in the book that she was in love with Eliot but that’s so not the case in the show.) tight platonic relationship with Eliot, and both of them really step up to the plate in S2.
Kady Orloff-Diaz– Ambiguously described in the book (also named Amanda Orloff in the book) played by Jade Taylor, who is part Indian/Israili. She’s had a really fucking rough life but is ride or die for the people she loves, and she’s exceptionally good at battle magic, a type of magic outlawed at Brakebills. She’s also an addict like Eliot, but is in recovery with the help of Julia, and Jade has expressed on twitter how important it is to her to portray a realistic recovery arc.
Other awesome bits
the queer/female/poc characters in power (Dean/King/Queen/etc) outnumber the (presented as) straight, white males in power. Eight queer/female/poc characters in power to five straight white males in power, who are mostly villains or characters who just cause trouble.
The male characters are allowed to show emotion and grieve, which is far too rare in media. They’re shown crying, expressing love both romantically and platonically, they clearly express fear, anger (but not in an abusive way towards others) and concern for each other.
The show is blatantly pro-choice, which is indicated by a sub-plot.
A minor character in S1 who’s present in five episodes, and one episode in S2, is played by a trans woman.
There’s a very genuine, affectionate and intimate relationship for a good portion of S1 between Eliot and another man. None of this basically platonic relationship with the odd kiss bullshit, and it’s not fetish-y.
A well respected male professor in the book is a woman in the show. And she’s hilarious.
The m/f romances in the show are on the healthier end of what I’ve seen on TV. They’re not perfect, but they’re pretty damn good. Both relationships are very supportive, aside from a couple issues.
There’s no pair the spares. A few female characters are single for long lengths of time.
They actually let male and female characters be friends without having them bang. Most of the time. I think the most important relationship to remain platonic, did.
There’s pretty good racial diversity in minor characters and extras, as well as a few with disabilities.
Deals with child abuse/sexual abuse victims and how those characters handle their trauma differently. Some turn out good, some don’t.
The plot is very cohesive and doesn’t spin off into nonsense. There’s only one tiny sub-plot that lasted for about an episode and a half where it seemed like they had to cut their losses.
There aren’t any characters that don’t have a reason to be there. The closest one to that only shows up once in a while and seems to really just be there for some comic relief, but basically every character has a solid reason for being present.
the show is self aware in the way that it pokes fun at itself because all the characters have read Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and now they’re suddenly in a story like that.
The only ‘jokes’ having to do with race (as far as I can tell, I’m white so I’m not the best judge of this but I didn’t see anything particularly alarming) are the poc characters–mostly Penny–calling the white characters out on their racism.
Also a few of the female characters, mostly Margo, call out misogyny and patriarchal bullshit when they see it.
PTSD, handled differently by different characters with varying degrees of success, but portrayed pretty well.
The sex scenes seem a little more realistic than what’s usually portrayed on TV–they’re awkward sometimes and there’s a scene where the woman actually explains to the guy what she likes (and he listens!!) which was pretty damn refreshing.
Trigger warnings
This show has about 9000 triggers in it, I’m not gonna lie. Like I said above, I was trying to find time to rewatch both seasons to take down all the possible triggers, but I just haven’t had the time. Please feel free to tack on any I missed.
Depression/anxiety/imagery of psych wards S1E1 and S1E4
Alcohol/drug addiction/abuse (like seriously I’ve seen one character, one time, drink something other than alcohol.) Throughout S1, less but still present in S2.
Blood and gore. Like, a ton of blood and gore, but it’s toned way down in S2.
Graphic animal abuse (fairly brief, you can skip it by jumping forward 30 seconds)
Graphic depictions of suicide (only during one episode, and they added a hotline before rolling the credits at the end)
Graphic depictions of rape (again, they added a hotline. Only in one episode but there are brief flashbacks in following episodes.)
Graphic verbal/physical child abuse and strongly implied sexual child abuse All three present in S1E9, mentions in later episodes
Depictions of PTSD
Cancer and cancer symptoms S1E5
Okay, so, fair warning. At the end of S1, the queer story lines look pretty dismal. But, if you can get through that, they do something towards the end of S2 that, as far as I’m aware, is pretty close to revolutionary in terms of queer rep on TV. Honestly I don’t know how they got away with both showing it, and using the proper terminology.
All that being said, I fucking hate the book.
Fight me.

Rough guide to the upcoming Midsummer’s night dream event.
once again the facebook page has announced a new event and not my sweet chapter 10! But here’s a rough guide to the upcoming event so you can get an idea of what’s gonna be happening and prepare ahead of time. Information via various Chinese guides to the event [x] remember it’s possible things have been changed between versions and our event could have some differences. I’ll update this post accordingly.
Basics - - - - -
This event is a reworking of the ball under moon event, you will go from stage to stage on a special event map collecting ‘dream’ points in order to buy the deer queen recipe and parts of the miss anna set needed to craft it, However :
Gift Boxes - - - - -
Unlike the ball under moon event where you could choose which piece of the suit you wanted, the gift box, which is the only way to obtain bits of the miss anna suit is completely randomised.
You may not even get a part of the suit and instead get diamonds or gold upon opening the box. This appears to be the most intimidating part of the event...
Calculations (aka : how many of those poor gems are you gonna need)
According to the chinese guide, they needed 18 million ‘dream’ to complete the whole deer queen set, divided by 5 that’s 3600000 (3.6mil) dream you want to aim to accumulate every day
For an S rank x 5 you get (ROUGHLY) 240000 ~ 300000 dream, multiplied by 5 for each stage that’s 1200000 (1.2mil) you get for free every day.
The chinese guide suggests buying 8 stage try recharges every day (that’s 30x8 = 240 diamonds everyday, 1200 diamonds overall)
of course these are only the estimations from one person, another Chinese site cites they needed only 850~ diamonds to get the whole Miss Anna suit.
I’ll update if a more precise strategy is found, but with the random aspect it’s likely you’ll need /somewhere/ around 1200 gems with the 8 stage a day strategy being a good one to start with and adjust accordingly to your luck. Thankfully looking at comments on the event, the gift box seems to be set up so the drop rates are in your favour so it won’t be too ridiculously different from player to player orz
Before I forget, coins - - - - -
In addition to parts of the miss anna set, you need a bunch of coin items to craft the deer queen set, these are most easily obtained by setting the suit as your crafting target.
The max coins you’ll need for all the items is 83328 (bambix7) + 106603 (dreamy barbiex7) + 107205 (leather shoesx7) + 38647 (natural gift x7) + 35840 (northern soldierx7) = 371623 coins
Your total coin will probably be less, given most players will already have some of these items. I also recommend trying to get the leather shoes from princess drop (stage 6-8 and 7-7)!
In closing - - - - -
This event seems to be one of the more brutal ones, but remember even if you don’t get lucky on this event, the recipes will show up in the starlight store later on, so if you’re not feeling so good about your chances simply aiming to get the deer elf recipes or your favourite items so you can save your starlight coins later is a valid option!
In the next few days I’ll be following this post up with a stage guide for the event, which will hopefully help you to get S ranks on all the event stages!
#love nikki dress up queen#love nikki#event#I have enough gems saved but I'm just gonna go in aiming for the make up and antlers tbh#I'm not a huge fan of the miss anna suit so.........

Best things to do in East Sumba, Indonesia
Sumba is another amazing destination in Indonesia. It is a short one-hour flight from Bali and rewards visitors with stunning natural landscapes and cultural encounters. It might not be the easiest place to visit in South East Asia as tourism is still underdeveloped on the island but if you follow our practical tips, you should have a great adventure in Sumba.
This is my second time in Sumba. On my first trip, I explored the West of Sumba and stayed at Nihi Resort. It was such a good trip that I went back 10 months later, still staying at Nihi Resort but traveling to the eastern part of Sumba. Read below for more info on our road trip from West to East Sumba and practical tips to visit Sumba
Waikabubak
We started our journey in Waikabubak in the morning. Waikabubak is the biggest town near Nihi Sumba resort, and the closest airport is Tambolaka
Waikabubak is one of the popular spots in East Sumba. It surrounded by magnificent hills and small traditional villages. This place is widely famous for its astounding megalithic stone graves.
Kampung Tarung village in Sumba
Our first stop was the village of Kampung Tarung, where our guide Juliana is from. It is a pretty traditional village with a beautiful view of the valley. The village was very much alive as they were preparing for a major ceremony. We got invited into Juliana’s home and had a discussion about Sumba’s culture with her family members.
We then started the long drive to East Sumba and made a few stops on the way.
Galu Bakul village and its stone monuments
After our village discovery, we moved to another traditional village called Galu Bakul. It is famous for its stone monuments. The village is also famous for its rich culture and history. There are the royal tombs of King of Anakalang. Tourists and explorers from all around the world visit this village to experience its grandeur. These Galu Bakul stone tombs are sacred for the local people of the village. They pay tribute to their ancestors by visiting and maintaining their royal tombs. This shows the rich cultural values of the people of East Sumba.
Passing by the sleeping Giants viewpoint in Central Sumba
Along the road, we then came across the sleeping giant viewpoint. The magnificent hills look like just sleeping giants. The atmosphere up there is pretty pleasant and cool, but the landscape was very dry. Sumba had been suffering a massive drought and some regions had not had rain for the past 6 months.
Mouthwatering lunch at Warung Bangkalan in Waingapu
Don’t trust appearances. This is a tiny place that doesn’t look like much. It was recommended by our guide Juliana, and we probably would not have stopped there without her. The specialty of the place is rice and soups with goat. I had the goat skewers and they might be some of the most delicious skewers I have eaten. And the best value to as a meal there costs 1-2 USD.
Discovering Rende Village
Our next stop was Rende village. The village is a true representative of the Sumbanese culture and traditions. There are houses whose walls are actually made out of buffalo skins! Rende, also known as Rindi, is a village famous for kings and their slaves. This village has a huge history of slavery. The village comprises of stone tombs of the royal families. Ikat weaving is popular around Rende village, so it is a good place to buy Ikats or wooden souvenirs. We met a few people during our journey in the village.
Sunset on Walakiri beach in East Sumba
Walakiri beach is one of the most Instagrammed places in Sumba. Here you can enjoy the dancing mangroves which a hallmark trait of this beach. The dancing mangroves at Walakiri beach is especially popular at sunset when you can see the sun reflecting through the mangroves. There are a few bars on the beach so it is a great place for a sunset drink.
TIP: The Mangroves are more spectacular at low tide. We were there during high tide and it looked a bit disappointing so try and time your visit to a sunset or sunrise at low tide.
Ending a long day at Wera beach resort
The Wera beach resort is a perfect place for the perfect stay in East Sumba. It is close to the beach as well. The resort has a very pleasant environment guest. They have 2 bedroom houses for up to 5 persons maximum. Dont expect the level of sophistication of Nihi Sumba but the cottages were comfortable, clean and pleasantly decorated. The Food cooked by the French owner was delicious. We had a lovely dinner right by the beach.
TIP: Wera beach resort is hard to find, and the road to get there is a dirt road where our car got stuck… It was a bit stressful to get stranded in the middle of the night so the best option of probably to have the owner pick you up with a four wheels drive.
They also organized our transfer to the airport of Waingapu the next day. The airport is about 45 minutes away from Wera beach resort.
5 practical tips for exploring Sumba
The best hotel on the island is Nihi Sumba, and it deserves a few days stays. Horse riding, surfing, spa or just chilling by your private pool, the choice is yours. Don’t miss the school and clinic visit organized by the Sumba Foundation.
Sumba doesn’t have taxis or tourism transport waiting at the airport. So you need to pre-book your transport. Our driver, Roi, was great. He can be reached at +6282247719970. Be aware that transportation is Sumba is more expensive than in Bali with prices of 800000 -1200000 rupiahs per day normal.
A good guide will make all the difference in your trips because what makes Sumba special is its culture and its people. Juliana was her guide, She speaks perfect English and French and was very knowledgeable. It was a pleasure discovering Sumba with her. She can be reached at +6282236216297
There are 2 airports in Sumba with direct flights from Bali. It is easy to arrive at Tamboloka and depart from Waingapu airport
The distance between Waingapu and Tambolaka is about 180 km and takes about 4 hours without stops. There are, however many interesting stops on the way so plan the whole day for the trip ( and it will be a long day!)
